Simple - yet Brilliant!
Haven't been to the shop... But the wife got some cupcakes from this shop home. Tried the apple-cinnamon and the double chocolate chip (Was that the name of the flavour?) - and they were brilliant! the frosting was amazing - and the cupcake base - moist - and simply divine... would love to go to this place and see the wonders there for myself someday!
Kudos for the couple to have opened an audacious concept in a city like Ahmedabad.. where food is defined by masses n not d classes... Buttercup comes across as small boutique selling only cupcakes, with limited variants and choice, where only the early birds could get a whiff of the spread on the shelf.
Never been inside the kitchen, but I believe the capacity is not an assembly line for sure. Limited quantities, make to the order and fewer assorments has made the place ever more better without compromising on the quality.
Its difficult to locate and with no marketing, n just word of mouth publicity has popularised it amongsts the people who know it. Still they go stock out almost before the closing time mostly by their repeat buyers.
Ok more on the food.. Never have tasted a better cupcake before, perfect moist and a perfect amalgamtion of flavours with just enough crust on the top n a smooth dig of the spoon is good enough. Icing is a little sweeter than expected, Red Velvet will give you a suger rush.. but yes double dip is the one.. go try it .. n I bet uill visit again in the same week
Party for a sweet tooth.
As the name suggests..this place is just a cupcake shop. But thats a good thing because the owners know cupcakes and that is what they do best. The menu has a small range from regular chocolate, vanilla to a bit more sophisticated like lemon and red velvet. After a few visits i have tasted all and i would recommend you go for any of them because they all are really good. Fantastic and homely taste unlike other dessert cafes where the cream tastes artificial and unhealthy. I wish they include some more items other than cupcakes. it has a very limited seating so usually causes a problem. Also it is adjacent to MOMOMAN..so after a nice meal it is the perfect place to get your ''Kuch meetha ho jaye''..
AWESOME IS THE WORD!
my friend chaitri is sucha big fan of the place she was like youuu need to check this place out! so i decided to see what it was all about! and omg it was just awesome. those yummy cute little cupcakes are just perfect! chocolate vanilla is my all time favourite combination and i absolutely loved this. and this is so near to my classes ! i can really visit it everytime after class :)
A breath of fresh air
Now this is a first for Ahmedabad. The place has a decor which is unseen of before in the city and you straightaway know that this is an experience with a difference. There are only a couple of tables so eating in may not be the best option. Tends to get cramped if more than half a dozen people walk in.
Now coming to the menu; pretty elementary with the focus being on cupcakes and cupcakes only.
We had the Double dip (chocolate frosting with chocolate base), oreo, chocolate-vanilla & the vanilla-chocolate, the difference between the last two being that one had a vanilla base and a chocolate frosting whilst the other had a chocolate base with a vanilla frosting.
The double dip was expectedly good, the vanilla-chocolate ones good too but my personal favorite was the oreo. We were hoping to catch their red velvet cupcakes but as luck would have it, they were sold out !
Overall, at 60 a pop, the pricing is probably on the higher side for a city like Ahmedabad but they do provide quality and prices come down as you buy more. Going back for sure since all said and done, this is the best cupcake shop in town !!!
Need variety & less sweetness
Visited this much hyped buttercupp cake place, which i fond was more sweet then it should have been... Its been served nicely but lacks variety and authencity..
I m sure the taste would have been amended with the city`s sweet tooth but a few flavors can be spared from it.
the owners have migrated from usa and know what they are giving..very authentic cupcakes. the place is run by the owners themselves and are very good in attending customers on a personal basis...very good work.. should start "un-italian" coffees and a few more baked delicacies which shall complement the cupcakes.... not only the cupcakes have the right consistency but the frosting is also of very high quality...not the cheap margarine type!!! keep up the good work...
One of the best cup cakes i have ever eaten,
Very good consistency of the cake and a very crisp flavour. I might even go on to say that they are better than theobroma cupcakes. Ahmedabad is proud to have its first Cupcake shoppe. Now please sublimate into Donuts and Tarts as well...
Cupcake delight :)
Amazing place ! The owners are so friendly, makes your experience of eating a cupcake even more delightful ! We went on a Sunday evening but we had just two options of cupcakes left to choose from- they can definitely improve on that.. and the place is a bit small.. A spacious cute buttercupp shoppe is all that is left to make this place a huge hit. I totally loved the red velvet cupcake :D Ahmedabad was in a need for such a place and am gonna surely visit again :)
Finally....someone in Amdavad knows how to make cupcakes that taste good.... Having eaten cupcakes in many cities in the US and elsewhere (Dubai mall), I was getting used to being disappointed at parties here in Amdavad where people would say that they have a cupcake to offer...or in my opinion a cheap imitation of a cupcake...All this changed this afternoon when I visited Buttercupp...The shop manager suggested that I try Double Dip knowing that I was a first time visitor. Needless to say that Double Dip (with eggs) was a chocolate heaven...moist, chocolaty all the way through and the icing was well balanced between buttery and sugary. Having room for just one more I took the Red Velvet which was just as good as its predecessor. Having eaten two already and no room in my tummy for 6 more tantalising flavors that I saw on display, I promised my tummy that I will return to Buttercupp for a treat.
I had heard about this place from a variety of people including friends and family. Apparently, what was conveyed to me was that this was the best ever cupcake place in town. I had to give it a shot and I did. And here's what I found. First of all I reached at about closing time and obviously the cupcakes were sold out. I placed an order for a variety of cupcakes including Vanilla, Red Velvet, Chai Latte, Double dip chocolate and a couple others. I was asked to pick it up the next day. The order was ready much before the promised time (A+ for that). However, the taste was actually disappointing. With every bite, I reconfirmed myself that this was afterall not the best cupcake I have had. In town, may be yes, but overall I would rate the taste a miserly 2.5 out of 5. The icing was hard and very sugary. Quite unlike to real cupcakes. The softness of cupcakes were absent and a couple of them were actually hard. The flavors, although different, were just okay and not one of them was exceptional. Overall, I can safely this this place is hyped, and nothing else. It's a one time go, but I would probably not recommend it to anyone else. If you know how to bake, try the readymade Betty Crocker packs that are available at supermarkets. Much better in my opinion. Pricewise Buttercup is pricey. The interiors are plain jane and cannot accommodate more than a group of 10. Anyway, I respect the effort by the couple who started this place, but there is a definite scope of improvement.
A much needed 'cupcake' fix for the foodies

One of my friends recommended this place when a bunch of us had that typical mid afternoon craving. The minimalist feel of the place with no pretentiousness won points from me. The range was a tad bit limited. The empty shelves showed promise, so a revisit is warranted. We ordered the Oreo and the strawberry flavored cupcakes. While the cupcakes were very soft and fresh and tasted wonderful, what I found a wee bit disappointing was the frosting, both in quantity and flavor.
Being a die hard fan of the similarly named butterfly cupcake shop in Bombay, who have a generously thick coating of frosting over the entire top of the cupcake to ensure that you get a mouthful of it in every sinful bite, I found myself craving some more frosting at buttercup. The flavor of the frosting is not bad, in fact its very good, but it lacked the sour-salty aftertaste at the very end that I have come to love. The aftertaste perfectly balances the sugariness of the frosting. But that's just me, and some people are not fans of it, and if you are one of them it will work fine for you. The guy behind the counter is very cool and will guide you in the right direction if you are confused. Full marks for friendly service. I just hope it could have been bigger. Four of us in the shop and we were almost bumping into each other.
Total damages for 4 cupcakes was 220 bucks, pretty reasonable I feel. Head here for a refreshing snack or an indulgent dessert, and I'm sure you won't have any regrets.

At first glance 'Buttercupp' is a very understated place. It is easy to miss being such a small place but it certainly has the capability to stand out from other cake providers.
Initial impressions are of a high quality and high standard place although we were somewhat let down with only a choice of five options, some of which only had one of each flavor left.
Moving on from this disappointment (they had a huge list of what could only be termed 'exciting' flavors on the chalkboard behind the counter but only perhaps 1 of those on display) - we bought four, two red velvet, one lemon (eggless) and one double-dip chocolate (also eggless), total coming to Rs 220 - not the cheapest place for cakes.
The taste however is first class. The eggless cupcakes actually don't taste like they are 'missing something' (which is a common problem with many bakeries who don't use eggs) and can definitely be recommended. The cake itself is just the right side of dense although not overly so, with enough moisture to make each bite a mouthful. The cream/icing topping is also quite moreish.
Not sure whether being new the owner/baker is still working out how much to make to avoid having unsold cupcakes but if they can get their display/availability sorted out then we'd definitely be going back for another go at this place.
Only four stars - taste is good, price is a little high, availability of the tantalising flavors is a big issue!
Please Don't Miss it
In the city like Ahmedabad where we are disillusioned by the whole concept of good bakery, Buttercupp would give you a fresh taste and a very loving experience of how a cake should be. Handled by a pretty couple and a very friendly and smiling husband who will serve you his wife's beautiful cupcakes with so much love that you would want to go back. And what do we say about those delicious cupcakes. they are out of this world. tastes light and fluffy and gives you a very healthy aftertaste. leaving you satisfied at the end. You just wont feel heavy and guilty after you eat it. Get over your typical black forests and chocolate cakes with only unhealthy frosting, indulge in these cupcakes and trust me you will no be disappointed.
