Not good enough

I read the reviews in Burrp and decided to check this place. But i do not think there is anything to rave about here. We went on a Sunday. about 10 of us. The screen on the first floor is totally kick-ass! But that's where the awesomeness ends.

Service : Oh c'mon, the cutlery wasn't sufficient. Moreover, we had to wait for a really long time for our food.
Food: Can be much much better.

Perhaps it was the size of the group I was in. But nevertheless i should mention, that the place was more or less empty.

My verdict: Average!

Its changed but still pretty good

Recently re-visited 64 on a saturday night after a gap of few months and realized quite a bit had changed since both in the offering and ambience. There's a subtle change in the name - now branded Sixty Four instead of 64 with the tagline changed too. The place no longer offers a full-bar, only beer and wine's available now (the owner sadly told us that they got arm-twisted by the license owner in giving it up. The lighting and mood of the main-level has been changed to give a more pub-like feel while the mezzanine and terrace still retain the bistro-feel of yore. Food menu's changed too with few more appetizers and a new pub-meals section that has some popular indian choices too at a very reasonable price. I mostly stuck to old favorites, which thankfully were as good as ever.
Though i couldn't get my regular poison - whisky, the beer on tap was a good-enough alternative esp for the warm night. My lady friend tried couple of their wine cocktails, which she said were excellent.
One thing that hadn't changed was the entertainment. The place has a proper stage now and a young band called Black Sun was playing some good-old blues-rock.
All-in-all, even though its changed some, still had a great time as before.

Good service, but average food.

Me and a friend visited this restaurant on a week day for lunch, and the restaurant had a buffet which we didn't wanna go for and ordered food from the menu. Surprisingly there was no alcohol available and the manager was able to offer us couple of mojitos which wasn't that great. We ordered a salad and a pasta, the salad was average but the chicken pasta was good. Overall I would rate this restaurant just above average.

A wonderful experience

We had organized a small get-together of about 20 people at 64 on Sunday, 19 Dec... and we had a wonderful experience there. We'd scouted about 10 places in Koramangala and Indira Nagar, and 64 was the first place we saw and it was just right for the informal gathering that we'd wanted. We booked the place two days prior to the event and Richard (the manager) offered us the entire top floor (which has a semi-open terrace) and we met the chef, Joseph who sat with us and helped us decide the lunch menu for the day.

The food was really good, from the hot & sour clear soup, to the 4 varieties of starters, the main course and the dessert. The service was very good and everything came on time. The staff was very courteous and professional and all in all this was a wonderful experience for all of us who'd come for this get-together.

Takes my blues away!

This is a place which scores well on all counts. The ambience is always superb especially on weekends. Most fridays burdened with the week's work, heading to this place takes worries away. The service is excellent and they always manage to find us just the right table no matter how crowded. The menu is interesting and worth trying are those recommended for the evening

Great evening

I made a table booking for 8-30 yesterday evening but reached after 9 PM because of the heavy downpour and resultant waterlogging and traffic jam. There were 2 parties going on at 64.However after the initial confusion we were given a table near the bar.The band played our kind of music, really enjoyed it.The cocktails were very good.Specially the cosmopolitan.Watching the bartender expertly mixing drinks was quite entertaining. The tangy lemongrass prawns were tasty and succulent.Hope it was made fresh and not kept ready as the food was served very fast. Overall service and ambience was very good. Enjoyed the evening with the live music - very nice concept

Excellent Service; Disappointing overpriced food

I decided to go to 64 on a Sunday evening and had moderate expectations somehow. However, the moment I entered the place and spent 10 mins there, it somehow gave a lift to my expectaions. There was a QnA game going on and that kept us involved.

We ordered a starter and drinks to start of with, however the starter was a sheer disappointment. It had a weird name and just had 6 small pieces of so called garlic bread. It just tasted awful.

I was now skeptical of having the main course there, but I dont know why I kept sitting.

Anyways, it was nice to have one of the staff members help us out with the main course.
I ordered Roasted lamb in some sauces and my wife ordered Pasta

The lamb was too chewey and did not justify the price, however the pasta had a reasonable quantity but was too bland.

They can improve a lot in terms of food and making the price proportionate.
And somehow I could see the calibre in them.

All in all not a great experience for this time.

My taste buds just said WOW

Ok i have been on a week long discussion with friends over places i can go to and try something european as spain was on their way to the soccer finals. So, one day we ended up at 64 and tried out some starters and deserts and i made up my mind to visit this place for some real food.

Me and my friend today went back, and boy we were not let down. To start of, we ordered for 2 to Tango (I guess thts the exact name). Its veg, but mmmm it tasted just right. I had my long island iced tea for company.

Somewhere i found the service a bit slow, but i think there was a bit of confusion over when our orders were to hit the table.

Ok now, i wanted something out of the box, grills and stakes were a strict no. Ordered for a Lamb oriveta (correct my spelling) and boy it just made my mouth water all the way through. Every inch of the meat was well cooked, and tasted devine, and the pasta and veggies went well with it.

To end, we ordered for chocolate mud pies. one of the best i have tasted in bangalore. It was just warm enough to melt and delicious.

Ok, now for the ambience, well there was music - live band performance, and the crowd was not the crowd who walk in to finish and leave. People enjoy their food here and definately its worth the dip!!!

If i were to rate 64 :
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 4.5/5
Service : 3.5/5
Deserts : 5/5

Interesting

Have been here a couple of times. Loved the sea bass in the lemon butter and chillies. However, the fish steak should seriously be boneless.

All in all, an interesting place for a continental munch.

Awesome drinks, good food

We headed to 64 after much dilly-dallying for a friend's birthday. The primary reason was Bangalore's traffic after some light showers. Our initial destination was a place in Indiranagar, but we decided to stay in Koramangala to reduce our Carbon footprint (read sarcasm) and the dinosaurs that were running amok in our stomach.

64 is situated in the residential-cum-shopping district near HDFC bank on the way to Forum from NGV. There is sufficient parking space and the environs are almost free of traffic noise.

The place is housed in...well, a house. You might want to call out for your friend as you enter the place, mistaking it to be just another house. We seated our office-bruised butts in the smoking area which was pretty well ventilated. Being a weekday, getting a table wasn't a big deal and sadly, the crowd was really boring as well. Hope the weekends are better (read good looking ladies).

The drinks they serve out here are really great. I would not term them as awesome, but they sure are great. We had ordered Apple and Kiwi Martinis for those who had to go home to family and beer for the one who did not have to.

The portions for snacks were good for two, considering you don't treat snacks as main course. We had sumptuous servings of shredded chicken, chicken lollipops, Mongolian chicken, mushrooms and French fries.

The service was efficient and the waiters were helpful. Since we had ordered 6 Tuborgs, they brought in a bucket full of ice to keep the fermented water cool.

I would suggest this place if you want to hang out with friends and have a good time. Sit out in the smoking zone even if you do not smoke as the weather just adds to the fun.

An important tip: Head to this place before 8 PM and enjoy happy hours with a 1+1 on most of the drinks.
The pocket was lighter by Rs 4000 after tonnes of food, 9 Martinis, 6 Tuborgs and 2 mocktails. Pretty decent, I must say.

nice vfm place for lunch

nice cozy place in a renovated house. they have very nice deals for lunch soup+starter+pasta for 149 & add an entree for 199. the soup was not very nice - tasted like the shanti sagar soup served with north indian meals. the salad bar - very nice. lots of meats & veggies. good options. the pasta & the entrees were good - nothing spectacular. but @ these prices - no complaints at all. would like to try a la carte here someday.

music food and mango salsa special

Ambled into 64 the previous sunday for lunch and instead of the usual crooner who sings some country and oldies found this duo doing a great set of blues. Apparently that the band was visiting from bombay and returning the next day, since the big IPL final was scheduled in the evening, the performance was being held in the afternoon. Shame that not many people were aware of it as the act was great - called 'the Naina Kundu project' with Naina on vocals (big voice that belies her petite frame) and the eccentric and brilliant floyd fernandez on bass.
Since i wasn't going anywhere, ordered the sunday lunch special - sea-food option - which, i must say was a find too. A leisurely multi-course meal with a big make-ur-own salad bar, soup-du-jour, a big starter platter and entree of ur choice from the menu and a dessert. The piece-de-resistance was the mango salsa special dessert - layers of cake, cream and real alfonso mango dices - absolutely sinful. Pity that it isn't served as part of the lunch package. My only niggle - the appetizers had no dips and the entree was served without the usual side of vegetables, the service could've done with a little more fervor too but what the heck, it was a lazy sunday afternoon and we weren't going anywhere - left the place well past 4 with floyd still going strong.
An afternoon to remember..

Nice, calm and exciting

My visit to 64 served multiple purposes. Couple of friends had planned a surprise party for a friend. Not only did i like the place their art walls had some great and affordable stuff. Given that I reached directly from the office, I had no gift :(. Guess what I bought a Calvin and Hobbes painting as a gift and it was the best gift of the lot:). The cocktails were great. I had Mojito's and they were perfect. We ordered pretty much everything from the menu. I liked the Dukka marinated lamb and also grilled fish in mango sauce. Haven't had fish this way before. The service was good considering we were a big group and demanding :). In all a great place specially for parties

Live music only on Saturday

Just visited on last Monday. Food was good but prices were on a steeper side for the quantity & quality served, this can be done better. Service is really good.

I was here for live music but came to know that they have it only on Saturdays :(

BTW: i tried calling on the numbers they have mentioned earlier to visiting, but no one answered.

Too spicy and hardly continental

64 was plain and simple - disappointing. We had three dishes and none of them stood out. The Mongolian Chicken (starter) was overwhelmingly spicy - one couldn't taste anything beyond the chilli and the chicken bits were more fat than meat.

The pepper lamb chops that came with a roast potato and rice reminded us of a Mughlai mutton curry. Not what we expected.
The Fish steak with mustard sauce was half decent - I had expected boneless fish fillets. Unfortunately that was not to be. The bones were a put off. Not worth a second visit.

Pathetic Place

Yesterday we visited 64 after reading all the reviews here for lunch and 4 star rating. The sewage in the building where it is put up was open and getting cleaned during lunch time..which itself was such a dissapointment. We then ordered for starters...a lamb terriyaki and chicken mongolian. While the lamb was uncooked , the chicken was nothing but chilly chicken. Dissapointed we just paid the bill and didnt order for the main course.

A perfect place and a perfect birthday

Imagine walking in an unknown place with your friends to find the best musicians in town, amazing ambience, good food and of course amazing company. It was a perfect surprise birthday party I could get. I had heard aarti rao before but it was different at this venue. It was more personal and we were standing right in front of the musicians. The food was good. I tried few pasta's (Thanks to girls who can never finish their food) and they were much better than what i have had in other places. My mojito was perfect and no one else complained about their drinks. They gave us a small cheese cake to celebrate my birthday. The cheesecake was awesome. I'm not able to pinpoint what i liked more than the other but the overall experience was truly amazing.

Interesting place...definitely recommended

Thanks to burrp reviews I tried this place and it turned out to be a great experience.
Food - I had pasta marinara and it was just right. Very few places get the balance of right cooked pasta with right amount of creaminess. My friend had Fish of the day in lemon dill sauce and it was yummy. For starters we tried Grilled cottage cheese. The flavours were good but i found it a little hard. 5/5
Drinks - Iordered for a pomegranate Martini. The martini was a little sour and I made that clear to the captain. It was immediately cleared and the barman came with a fresh martini. I liked it. The barman was well mannered. He took my feedback and apologized for the previous one. 4/5
Ambience - Absolutely amazing and different. One of the places where you feel comfortable 5/5
Music - It was a saturday and they had great musicians playing. It absolutely fitted with my evening 5/5

I would recommend to other burrpers too

another just-avoid Koramangala venue

I am writing this cause I noticed how responsive the management of this venue have been to the comments... without visiting the place, I had recommended it to so many others, all because of its stylized name and location... but it turned about to be just another house converted into a restaurant by somebody with deep pockets... the other one I can think of being the original Magnolia in Koramangala (which btw is awesome!)

the place made a big attempt to look all classy, but sorry; it still looks like a duplex house with the seating area made out of a bedroom... the food is NOT good at all... very stingy portions which are as tasteless as they can get...

what I am sad about is that the resto owners in this part of the city spend so much in advertising their locations and sounding so novel that they miss out on the basic intent of their location i.e. foooood! please eat your own food and compare it with some of the better location serving the same cuisine; I'm sure the difference wouldn't be at all difficult to make out...

greatly disappointed...

First a fine dine restaurant, good location and great reviews….

After wading through a pile of weekday (30 march) traffic on sarjapur road and countless traffic signals on our way we finally made it to sixty four…

I was excited to be at sixty four for the first time…my happiness was short-lived…the fact that 64 doesn’t serve anything other than Kingfisher beer came like a shocker…especially during IPL season…even a small bar and restaurant in Bangalore stocks all varieties of beer…

I had a word with the captain and yet I was not convinced if other beers are out of stock or they only stock KF...could be yet another place in Bangalore which has exclusivity tie-up with KF…

There were two other important people with me…and we decided to leave the place after a great disappointment and settled for a nearby pub… not sure if I will visit sixty four again at least in the near future….

Otherwise the place has a great ambience and good seating arrangement…I didn’t get a chance to look at the food menu…but the spirits were priced nominally and not too expensive….

high expectations unfortunately not fulfilled

I was really looking forward for this Sunday lunch, we ordered some non-veg menu and an additional burger. The food was very average if not below average and the burger didn't come for another 40 min. When we were finished we asked where it was and they only prepared it then (for parcel). Then it came and it was without the french fries, which were complimentary.
Service was not able to handle it right away.
When we wanted to pay and leave very unhappy, at least he took one dish off and delivered the french fries finally...but we were not happy with the service and the food. Sorry for that.

Refreshingly Good

This place would not come across as a awesome restaurant, but this is refreshing delight to the usual restaurant goers.
The place is a house turned into a restaurant but very well designed place for a restaurant. 2 floors of sitting but the live music always plays in the 1st floor. Weekdays have a Happy Hour period within 8PM for alcohol.
The food is good and well garnished. The menu is not extravagant but the chicken always is well prepared!
It is not as costly! but priced reasonable enough!
The place hosts variety of events throughout the week with quizzes, live music etc..
All in all an enriching experience..

Live & Rocking

I'd give full marks to this unique place. Live music, arts, food, drinks & IPL under one roof. I'd been longing to hear the some good CCR, Doobie brothers et al live and the band D'fuzd did just that. The band area right in front of the bar is amazing. It felt very personal and enjoyable. Coming to food - I had grilled fish tikka and i loved it. The main course was Stuffed chicken pockets (funny name) and it was good too (Highly recommended). In all a place i'd go and recommend

The Sunday Brunch at 64!

Last Sunday was Brunch time at 64 – The Bistro Bar at Koramangala. I loved the combination of a hearty continental meal with some great music for accompaniment. The service was prompt and it was nice to see one of the partners of the place personally greeting and servicing guests. Now that definitely gives a warm, casual and friendly edge to the place. Need a better choice of desserts!

So I did the Sunday Brunch last weekend at 64. The food was good, the service better. I ordered a cocktail outside the menu and was greeted with a warm smile coupled with an effort to get me my drink – well mixed! The salad bar was excellent though my cravings for a varied dessert spread at the end of a good meal could have been better satisfied.

Cocktails in perfect symphony with the food!

I was intrigued by the very Mediterranean look of the building..the white walls and the royal blue windows was a relief in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Koramangala. I have travelled to various countries..trying special cocktails with specific cuisines has been a specialty for years. The Sunday Brunch was a full course lavish continental affair at 64..and the best part would remain the perfectly mixed cocktails that go with it. Try the whites! :) I would rate this homely place very high on the cards for food and drinks served in perfect harmony.

I had already heard great reviews about 64 from my friends and decided to give the much talked about Sunday Brunch a shot last weekend. And I am glad I did! There is something about the ambience which makes you feel absolutely comfortable and sets you at ease from the word go! You begin to relax as you get transported away from the humdrum affair of the bygone week. The place is artsy and steers clear of the regular commercialized restaurants that have mushroomed all over the locality. The spread was lavish; I relished the continental cuisine while I tapped away to some great live music!

Good vibes, bad food

I had high hopes when we walked into 64. I liked the modern artsy feel and loved the classic rock music playing in the background. Seemed like a cool place to go for drinks or a casual dinner.

Unfortunately, after we received our order, my opinion did a 180. The buffalo chicken wings weren't "buffalo" flavored. The garlic tossed prawns were minuscule. The potato wedges were good, but honestly I can make potato wedges at home that are better. And most sadly of all, the lamb chops were absolutely inedible. In all of the restaurants that I have ever visited in my entire life I have never sent anything back to the kitchen before. The bones were actually still cold! The meat was a mushy mess- not fresh at all. And the presentation was abysmal. It didn't even look good and it tasted worse. If you were to check out 64 the bar area seemed fine and the watermelon mojito was ok. Fresh watermelon would have been preferable to the sugary syrup that was used.

Best of the lot

As i said earlier being new to koramangala has led me to explore all the joints. 64 is the best of the lot so far. The new years party was one of the best I have had (Being from mumbai its difficult to say the best :). So place was packed and we did not make any reservations which means we did not get any place to sit which was ok since there was a dance floor. The ambience is unconventional and appealing. Places with small to medium size dance floors are always good. The staff was struggling to manage the seating (Could hear 1-2 customers). I figured out later while speaking to the owner that this was their first new year and that they made some changes n all. So anyways we weren't concerned abt that. We had our beer and danced to the music. DJ was fun (Young kid from goa). We hogged on the starters and i think i ate only Chicken Mangolian the whole night:). Girls in the group went for cocktails and had some exotic martini's like wasabi martini and cajun martini. No one complained so i guess it was cool. The manager did manage to find a place for us later and we stayed back late having fun. After the music was shut it was a totally different place. It actually felt like a house party and we were randomly talking with people around. My friend had an unexpected birthday (We started singing) and to our surprise the captain got us a cake. We felt guilty later and told him that it was not anyone's birthday and asked him to bill us. The manager was nice and came back to tell us that its a new year cake for the group. In all we enjoyed the - the ambience, music, food, drinks and service (There few hiccups but i guess it was new years and that happens in every new year party).

A confused lot!

I was there on the New Years Eve with some very close friends and relatives. I have always wanted to go there. Thanks to such wonderful reviews by the burrpers. This place is diagonally opposite Sweet Chariot Café in Koramangala. A house converted to a bistro bar. When I had called to make the reservations, I was told, for men, its 1000 bucks per head for the entry which can be redeemed later. For women, the entry is free. As told to us, we had to buy the coupons for the boys as we entered. They enquired with us if we’d booked the table and after cross-checking their data, one of their staff led us to the next floor and showed us space in the smoking zone (This area is the balcony of the house). When we denied to sit in the smoking zone and asked to provide us some table in the non-smoking zone, he denied initially. After some argument, he said, the entire place is booked and insisted we take the smoking zone. I slightly lost it and told him, I have booked the table too and there’s no way am gonna take the smoking zone. Somebody else came to the rescue and after checking with the manager and making us wait for close to 15 minutes, he gave us a table in the non-smoking zone.

After taking a look at the menu card, we ordered Apple Peach Iced Tea, Cosmopolitan, Bloody Mary, Pepper Mushroom, Potato Wedges and Lemon Grass Prawns. The moment we placed the order, the waiter asked us for the coupons. I’ve noticed generally these are collected when the bill is produced and settled at the end. The waiter was bent upon giving him all or it and made a note of the amount which was on us to be paid later. The service wasn’t too delayed. It was rather quick and courteous. The best amongst the cocktails was Bloody Mary. The other 2 almost tasted like tonic. All the starters were excellent. Lemon Grass Prawns needs a special mention here. My friend was so fond of it, she wanted to have only this for dinner and get another packed! The mushrooms were great too. Spicy and apt for the Bangalore weather. And that day, it was raining since evening. The additional spice in the mushroom made wonders. The Potato Wedges were excellent as well. They must have used the very long ones. Size, taste and the portion were nothing to be complained about. The garlic sauce given along with the starters was very less and when asked for more, the waiter got us the tomato sauce. When we again informed him about the garlic sauce is what we asked and not the tomato sauce, he said, he cant get the garlic sauce. In the next few minutes, there was another waiter passing by and he got us the garlic sauce when asked.

By this time, the small dance floor on the ground floor was filled. We got there was as well to get into the groove. After sometime, the hungry we got back to our respective table to have some more drinks and food. This time we wanted to have tequila shots but, it wasn’t available. The next option was the shooters. All of us unanimously said B-52 and some Penne Primavera to munch. Immediately after we placed the order, the waiter asked us to make the payment. This was strange as for the first time in a place like this, we were asked to pay before we eat. Sounds so much like a darshini. We were taken aback and I went to check on this with the manager. He did some calculation on the coupons redemption and told us whats the final amount we’ve to pay. When I enquired with him if after sometime, we place order for more things, we again will have to swipe the card before we eat? He said, “Yes Mam. Today, we’ve re-arranged the whole place and we wouldn’t know the table numbers. So, the customers need to pay before we serve the food.” But, that’s not our problem. Or they thought the customers would get drunk and they wouldn’t pay at the end? So, the best way was to make them pay before they eat? Well, just when I gave the card to swipe, another guy said, “Its ok Mam. I know your table and I’ll get the bill at the end and you need not pay now.” 2 minutes after I was back, the new guy who probably was the restaurant manager came to us and said, we need to make the payment before we eat. My friends gave me a bad stare at me conveying, what kind of a place I’ve got them to!!! I was tired by this time and just handed over my card to them.

Talking about the food again, the shooters were excellent. I think one of the best and all of us loved it. We wanted to order one more but, looking at their complicated billing process, we told ourselves Not Here! The pasta indeed was subtle and cheesy the way it should be. Nice and warm.

The food had no complaints. Service definitely needs some attention and could be improved. About the smoking and the non-smoking zones, they probably can check with us when we call to make the reservations instead of insisting where they want us to sit. About the billing mayhem, I don’t know if it was only that day and I need to give them another chance but, that day’s experience has left a mark on me. And the waiters, all of them should give us the same info instead of confusing us in addition to their confusion. They all need to be at the same level and communicate the same info / message. Overall, it was good experience as far as only the food is concerned and sad experience with everything else. 3 stars is only for the food!

Wasn't as good as the reviews say..

The ambience is gud...so was the music that was being played.
People were very courteous. Undoubtedly.

But not quite impressed with the food.
Tried chicken lollipops and chicken mongolian.
Lollipops didn't taste exciting..mite be coz they weren't served hot.. So had to put extra stress about serving it hot while ordering for mongolian.

Although we liked the lemongrass prawns....neatly done...

And again, didn't like the Pepper lamb chops that we had ordered. All had a bite of Vegetarian Panini before leaving to beat the hunger...

We were only happy about the drinks, prawns and the music......

Nice christmas party

Its a different experience i should say. I have been to this place earlier and came back for christmas party and i'm surprised to see that they have maintained the same quality and service. The christmas party was fun with Johnson crooning some good numbers (Heard he sings on sunday's too). I found it to be a perfect place to party with the mezzanine floor overlooking the dance floor. Would love to go back for the New Years party

the burrp reviews were very handy when i had to decide on where to head out this sunday..!! 64 was a very good choice.. was expecting a band to be on.. but in vain. nevertheless we had a fab time.. starters were great.. and relished the main course. my whisky sour was not up to the mark... but was ok with it..! around 2500INR for the 4 of us with drinks, soup, starfters, entrees and dessert. definitely gonna head there again soon..!!

pricey but tastey

the exterior of the building (must have been a house once upon a time) is very deceiving. once you climb up to the first floor and open the denim (!) colored door, its a very different world.
Very comfortable seating, pleasing ambiance and the whole setup gives a a feeling of unhurried comfort.

Prawns were deliciously fresh my veggie colleague (and us) enjoyed the jalapeno veggie and crispy potato wedges.Chicken Skewers was bland though. only issue I found was that the food served was almost cold.

Overall a pretty decent place but could be expensive if you go in the Unhappy hrs which begins after 8PM. Drinks are on the higher side and is on par with the BJN chains

Great music and ambiance

Wow. Never knew about this place. Went there yesterday and had an amazing time. I'm a sucker for live music and this place was different. The setting was great and the band was definitely good. Watching the band sitting on the bar stool is good fun. The food and service was good too. I had a stuffed chicken pocket (never had that anywhere else). It was brilliant. I'd rate this place much higher in ambience and experience.

Groovy music and great ambience

Never knew bangalore has such great places. The guys playing definitely knew their stuff (I was told they are some of the great musicians in the country). The ambience was perfect. It was very personal. The food was good. The fish cake was great and the pork chops were a little hard but tasty. My friend had a guava martini and it had fresh fruit juice. Lovely. Haven't had tht anywhere else. Overall a great experience. My stay in bangalore will definitely be fun

Fabulous music and fantabulous ambience

64 is definitely up there when it comes to music. It was their six month completion party and man what a line up of musicians - Alwyn, Karan, Jerusha, Tony and then there were few famous talents in the crowd. What i like about this place is the openness and impromptu nature of their gigs. I'm still awed by the talent present. The food as usual was good and there were media guys too. I'm hoping i'm in the newspaper :). Guys keep up the good work, we need such places which has music but does not look commercial

Ho hum..

Had lunch at 64 on a weekday. They seemed keen to lead us to the outer seating area.. which really doesnt make sense because we decided to shift indoors and realized that the seating was really comfortable and the deco pleasant.. Our orders of Chicken and Roast lamb came pretty fast and the other customers seemed annoyed because they'd been waiting for longer.. We saw some set lunch dishes getting returned and angry customers walking out.. which leaves a bad impression even if you want to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Coming to the food.. the flavours were pretty bland.. the food was not warm considering how quickly they brought it.. there seemed to be very less thought put into the presentation.. and the meat didnt seem to have soaked the gravy sufficiently.. we did get our bill and walk out before the other customers got their food (much to their annoyance :D ).. overall.. very blah.. just like the food. nice seating and deco can only get you so far.

Once more

Well this place has become my favourite. This time around the ambience was more friendly and the menu bigger and better. Unfortunately I could grab just a burger and boy was that the best burger around - Juicy, tasty and fresh. My friend had a wrap and she didn't complain either. I'd rate this place excellent on all counts (Check out the artist displays)

Nice lunch

Went back to 64 after a few weeks and found an updated menu with a wider choice. Have expanded the continental selection with a few more pan-asian fusion options alongwith some popular mexican stuff. Had gone for lunch this time and found a pretty good selection of sandwich selection with some interesting wraps and paninis thrown in. They also now offer a very reasonably priced set lunch with a daily cuisine theme. We tried the mexican set lunch, which started with a really nice and spice bean soup, the veg enchiladas were quite nice though the roasted chicken as main course didn't have much of a mexican taste. Friend tried the panini with grilled chicken & veggies, which was excellent. Service was attentive as before. Always thought of 64 as an evening place but not bad at all during the daytime too.

How Bad Does it Get?

Ok, I would give the music 2 stars, the drinks 2 stars and the food less than half a star.

It's not like there's no competition - the place is full of good restaurants that offer better food and ambience - so I am not sure why the management does not seem concerned about maintaining quality here.

Another to the favorite haunts list

I just couldn't get enough of 64 the first time round and we decided to go there for a leisurely lunch soon enough. The place was deserted when we got there but gradually started to fill up. Its a nice airy place in the afternoons, with a lovely balcony on the main floor overlooking traffic

Now getting straight to the food. We started off with the French Onion Soup which was this yummy brown broth of onion goodness. A rather large bread croton was immersed in the soup and it had thin slivers of onion all rolled together around it. How they managed to do that was beyond me.

Next we went in for two rounds of starters - The cheese and mushroom sticks and the crumb fried fish with tartare sauce. Now the cheese and mushroom sticks had quite an Indian feel to it. Maybe it was the colours of brown, red (tomato) and cubes of white paneer (and not real cheese). The green chutney with it was nice and gave it that necessary zing.

Next was the crumb fried fish in tartare sauce. The finger food version of fish fingers. Hot and absolutely yumm with the tartare sauce. We had a round of KF premium pints with the starters. Yes!! Yes!! I know soup and then beer... not really a classy way of doing things but then what the hey!!!

For the main course better half had the Jambalaya - Since we were new to Jamabalaya, what we expected was more of a gravy based dish... but what came was this wonderful rice, bursting with the tangy flavours of spices. From what I could gather, there was fried chicken, boiled lamb, delicately cooked shrimp and more. The dish was also piled with olives and slices of jalapenos ensuring that every bite was like a firecracker in your mouth.

I went in for the day's special of lamb chops with mashed potatoes and garlic bread. An absolutely hearty meal. The gravy was thick and the lamb could be sliced through like a hot knife through butter. The portion for one person was on the really generous side. And the crisp garlic bread was just what was needed to make sure that we don't waste one ounce of the delicious gravy. The mashed potatoes were served in two lovely circular mounds. Though I do wish they were creamier than the rather set version I had.

For dessert we went in for the mango salsa cake. And was that a treat or what!!! A lovely moist cake base, with a mango pudding-like filling topped with another layer of cake and layer of what could be described as mango cream, with mango puree. One bite and your stomach would be singing an ode to the pastry chef.

Cocktail Paradise....

A perfect cosy rooftop home turned restaurant. I have not had such great cocktail specially at a cost as less as Rs.220/-.
We had the Aja and Caprioshka. The Caprioshka is a must and I wud give it a 4 out of 5. the food was very italian...the pasta panini was ok towards the better while the starters were good. The pepper honey vegetable tempuras was sweet and spicy one...good one to start off.The bruschetta dishes as starters were good too. The garlic bread was fresh crisp and smelled aluring.Lemongrass flavoured stir-fried vegetables was liked too.
The servings were good, people knew well about what the dishes would be like. and the owner took special care of getting feedback from customers about the food, ambience and any other feedback abt the improvement of the place.

Not to say the music was ok..ok..that could be improved.
On the whole it was a good experience.
Wednesday - DJ night and Saturday - Live Band are the special attraction of the week.

Rocking gig

Went back to 64 the other night on hearing that they've Tony, Karan alongwith Sujay of Bhoomi jamming together for the evening. The trio put up a super show doing classic rock and pop covers and were a great sport to accomodate requests from overenthusiastic (and persuasive) guests even for songs they didn't know too well. Would really like to see them back..
The drinks were great, the barman cool as usual (am a tad biased as he again plied me with couple of free shots)..
all in all, another rocking night...

Home turned Restaurant ?

Some please care to explain why this place is among the TOP 5 lounges in Bangalore.

The ambiance was just ok. We ordered 2 drink Cosmo and Pinacolada. They spoilt the Pinacolada so badly that I would think twice to have that drink anywhere. It was like Vodka and Milk and some pathetic stale cream.

We took the seat on the rooftop and couldn't wait to finish our drink and get out of the place. We went on a Thursday night and there were hardly anybody in this place !

Would never go or would never recommend this place to anybody.

The music wasn't great either. The staff was so busy matching the CRICKET MATCH instead of serving the guests.

Value for money

I read the reviews on Burp and ventured out to try and see for meself! and Boy, was i glad that i went to 64.
We order cocktails caprioshka and whisky sour, both turned out to be well made and with a decent punch. Priced between 220 and 250/-.
For starters we tried fish fingers and as well as skewered lamb(with some exotic sounding name). I have had better fish fingers, so i would give this one a 1.5 on 5( since it was sea fish - it was a bit fishy - smelly). On the other hand the lamb was well cooked, succulent and soft - would go with a 3 here. (Eat while hot, otherwise no point.)
The service was prompt - no complaints there.
For dinner we split a pasta fungi, fettucini and it was definitely one of the better pastas i have tasted so far (apart from the one which Indi Joes and Spiga offered). I would go with a 3 on 5 here.
Overall - good experience. A bill for 2 - including 3 drinks, 2 starters and 1 main course came to 1200/-. Thats value for money in Koramangala.
Do give this place a try.

Check this place out for the stair and the dude on the wall if not for anything else. These guys have done a decent job with the paintings. Few places where you have many things to talk about apart from the food. Food is good and drinks are value for money. Worth many visits. Heard they have live jam sessions over weekends

A perfect evening

I have always struggled to spend quality time whenever I go for a movie in Forum. SSS and Firingi is obscenely over priced and there is no other place to spend peaceful time. Now there is. I was hesitant in entering but once I did, I was bowled over. It had a look which almost made me miss my movie. The painting on the stairs is Kick ass. MUST CHECK OUT. The food is tasty, comfortable and I definitly loved it so did my wife. Must visit again. They should start a scheme with PVR.

Had a great night

Stopped at 64 last night to get a quick drink with couple of friends but ended up staying past closing time. Reason - a ensemble band called The Last Temptation putting up a cracker of a show of some vintage rock, country and blues. The place has a uniquely different ambience (being restored from an old house), has great accoustics and gives the band a largish stage right in the center of the house (a rarity in this town). Setup like a bistro, it offers a pretty decent and reasonably priced drinks and food menu to round off the experience.
Found that the live acts are a regular weekend feature (with no cover or entry charge :), will be back for the next..

64 Seconds

My wife and I were taking a leisurely stroll through the backstreets of Koramangala, when we saw this place. The name was intriguing, and the place looked interesting.
We walked up the stairs, past 2 lightly bored guitarists strumming tunes from the 70's, as their buddies watched. We sat in the balcony but soon came downstairs because we didn't want the flavors of the food to compete with cigarette smoke.

The food arrived - chicken lollipop - the dish tastes worse than the name.
It tasted stale, and undercooked.
Next on the menu was fried fish - the fish tasted like it had died a tragic death many years ago. I sent it back but the manager insisted that the food was fine.

I had ordered a small brandy but was charged for a large one. The manager - a slightly abrasive man - insisted that I was given a large one even though I had ordered a small. In a magnanimous manner, he admitted that they had made a mistake, but invited me to pay for the large if I wanted to.

All in all, we spent about 64 minutes in a place. I would not recommend spending more than 64 seconds here.

A different house

After walking up the rather non-descript entry stairwell, the interiors of 64 catch you (pleasantly) by surprise, esp. the sweeping staircase leading to the 2nd level with the surreal art-piece on the wall depicting a musician with oodles of attitude.
64 calls itself a bistro bar and tries hard to walk the tightrope of catering both to a food and music lover, and succeeds (mostly).
The food's largely continental fused with multiple influences - some spanish, japanese, cajun from new orleans, arabic and indian. Tried the dukkah marinated lamb and jambalaya, which were fairly good. They could do with introducing some tapas platters as the finger food portion sizes is rather small.
I The place is well-equipped on the sound front and heard some interesting alternative stuff, followed by blues-rock and some jazz funk. The guy spinning the music told me they do accoustic live gigs on weekends and're in process of introducing themed nights. The place tries to make intelligent use of its multiple section with the volume tapering off on the 2nd level and the terrace area.
The bar is well-stocked with the ever-smiling barman offering some interesting and very reasonably priced cocktails.
Overall, surely a place that's different and with a few tweaks in the food / music menu could become even better.

Resturant that wants to be a Night Club...

I was there this Saturday. With my family (Parents, wife and kids). One thing that immediately struck me was that music was way too loud for a restaurant. Ginseng would have been a better idea after all. But too late now. We are already here.

The website said Jazz, Blues and Rock. But all we got was Nickleback and such screaming into our ears.

Menu was all Italian. Starters were nice. My sea bass was a bit dry. Overall good food.

Drinks were definitely watered down. I typically judge a drinks place by it's Martini. And this one did not have the flavour or the punch. I could feel the water in it. My wife had ordered the Aja which was tasty but the alchohol was missing.

Service was very good. Very courteous staff. They knew the menu well.

I think the owner is a bit confused about what to deliver. it's a Resturant that wants to be a Night Club or vice-versa.

Over all... OK. Good place for young couples to hang-out. But definitely not a place for family with kids.

Soothing Ambience with good food

Entering this place is like getting into a bunglow, but it has been nicely converted into a a place where you could have a good time with your friends..not very noisy, soothing ambience and a nice food. The continental food is priced appropriately, except for the starters quantity, which could have been a bit more. We didn't go for drinks, so unsure about its pricing,
I am definately gonna visit it again!! ..

Soothing interiors and a delectable menu with a superb location definitely puts 64 on any patron's "Must Visit Often" list. Not over-priced and a service that is commendable has definitely made Me want to return to this place often.
