Wonderful Place. Its so Different From Any of the Other Places I've Eaten At.

I have always been a fan of their Indiranagar branch. Now that I have shifted to Koramangala, this is my favorite. The place is full of trees and gives you a sense of sitting in a forest, oddly in the middle of the city. I found this pic on their facebook page. It really says it all.The food is great as usual and the coffee excellent. My favorites are of course the legendary lamb burgrer. On a rainy day the super-spicy chilly chicken burger, the lemon tea cake, oreo shake and cappucino. My wife loves the roadside rowdy burger. My daughter likes the mushroom pasta with grilled chicken and of course french fries.. As for the painting of course my daughter is a fan. She can go there any number of times. It is the nicest little eatery in Bangalore for sure!

Good for a Change of Place

We went to Bistro Claytopia on a fine Saturday evening because of a friend but we found the place to be a house which had a shed on the corridor for people to sit. It is not very comfortable considering that we easily block the lane if we are more than 4 people and since the place is already bustling with people in such a small corridor, you will need to wait for your table. The inner section of the house is devoted to the clay painting which seemed very popular at this place and there was a birthday party too.

So, we got settled at our table and went ahead with our order: 2 Hazelnut Coffees, 1 Irish Dream, 1 Caramel Royale, 1 Bistro Lamb, 1 Barbecued Chicken Big, 2 Veg Alfredo Pasta, 1 Blueberry Cheesecake.
All the coffees were served with a good scoop of cream and were good. Coming to the Pastas, my friends were quite happy with the serving as well as the taste of it. The Bistro Lamb burger and the Barbecued Chicken burger were huge and it took us enough effort to even have the first bite. But once we had the first bite, no one could stop us! :P ;) They were actually very tasty. My friend became a fan of the lamb burger here. :) We were disappointed when they served the Cheesecake though. It was served in a plastic cup with a crispy base, cheesecake over it and a blueberry jam on the top. The cheesecake tasted good but did not justify the price.

In the end it is an above average cafe which handed a bill of Rs 1250 to us for all that we had. The burgers, pastas and coffees are good enough and for artistic people and kids, this place might just be the right choice for a weekend getaway. So everyone can have different opinions about this place, one might think that the waiters need to speak more clearly and the service is not up to the mark when they are charging a service tax or one might just love the food or else one might just love the concept of clay painting and personalized gifts and turn up here again and again. It all depends on how you see this place. Just visit and see how this place turns out for you. :)

Good Food With A Relaxing Ambience

I immediately liked this cafe the first time I went to it. it had good service, good food and was cosy. Couldn't ask for more. I have been here a few more times after that and it has never disappointed me.

Relaxed Service, Great food

As all other reviews say, slow service, great sandwiches. Iced tea is nothing to write home about, and the place needs better cooling.

The pet friendly nature of this place is brilliant! I met this oh so cute English spaniel named Soccer!

Share:

surprise surprise

So there I was on Sunday, book in hand at my favorite cafe. I was there at about 11:30 in the morning. I wasn't planning to write a review, I had a pleasant experience at the cafe as always. I got on today to download the menu and send it to a wayward nephew of mine who wanted to have his birthday party here. In the process, I saw the review which will be below mine by the time I type it out. Now when someone questions my taste in clothes, books or restaurants, I must defend. More importantly, I was there half an hour after this lady. Now you can imagine what happens if an angry person shows up at a cafe and demands angry service and from her rant here, I can see she is a troubled and angry person indeed.

I was there when you threw plates at the staff madam. If I were less of a gentleman I might have intervened. For shame!

Disastrous Sunday

I know that I have been suggesting Claytopia to almost everyone I have met, but with this review I want to urge everyone to avoid this place. I know everyone has been giving a lot of leeway on their very slow service (as brought out by some ppl here as well), but yesterday's incident was just totally unacceptable. Although they say that their operating hours begin at 11 am but when we walked in around 11 am on Sunday, they were not even set up. Anyways, I asked them if they will be able to serve us and as usual the answer was 'YES'. So we took a place and placed our order. While we were waiting we saw at least 3 cockroaches roaming around. We saw a lady strutting about, so we called her and the first thing she did was pass on the blame to someone else. So, anyways they did not do anything about this unhygienic condition. We moved inside the building and someone brought out one dry plate of burger. We had to chase them for every part of our order, it was ridiculous. When finally they got my order, it was stone cold!! When we asked to speak to the manager, there was none - just a bunch of school dropouts with no idea about how to talk to the customer. And this lady (Kala) was doing everything to pass on the blame to everyone. It was a total chaos..we got the ph number of the manager, but he was as lazy as his staff. No one knew who the owner is and what to do. We had to leave from there without any food. It was a terrible and very annoying experience. The least the guys who run restaurants can do is to be sensitive towards the customer and hygienic. I have seen Claytopia's deterioration over the past year and it is really sad.

Thank you for your review.  We are sorry to learn that you had a bad experience at Claytopia.  Unfortunately, on that day we were faced with a severe drain blockage issue, which is public issue related to the location.  Being a Sunday, we were unable to get hold of the concerned people for cleaning out the drain.  As a result of which, our staff were occupied in cleaning up the place.

As a part of the service industry, we take utmost care in matters related to hygiene.  The kitchen staff are instructed to make sure no

Uhhmaazing sandwiches!!!

They'll take AGES to serve, but worth it. So one protocol to follow when you go there - order ASAP. Because you will wait for a while anyway. Also, late mornings are early evenings are the nest time to go - lesser people to compete with.

And yeah, did I mention the delicious sandwiches??

9.50 Finally food arrives

I didnt make a fuss out of it , but guys please have the courtesy to inform if the food will be delayed, I understand its a Saturday evening and you guys will be busy , but people who ordered after me had got their food and complete their meal.

The 2 Rating is for the quality of food , brought down by the pathetic service.

Memorable

Went to claytopia a while back. its in moderately quiet part of the hustling neighborhood, which is a good thing as the traffic doesn't bother so much. The ambiance is kinda hip, and its in the open under the tree(or something similar, i don't remember). Nice place for the college going crowd. Not a boring place for sure, its always buzzing with people.
The food that i had was hazelnut coffee and a chicken sandwich. The coffee was delicious and i always recommend it to people. The sandwich was also pretty good.
All in all, its worth going here. and if you stay in the vicinity i'm sure you'll be coming to this place quite often.

You're open in Koramangala?

How come I don't see it online. The place looks fabulous from the outside. I love the trees and the private courtyard. Is it open or under construction?

Paint and Eat

I visited this place last weekend and had a gala time. It's a fun way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Sit around with friends, have some good food, paint a little and while your time away.

Try the Hazelnut Coffee there... it was very flavourful...

Also, I have written a bit of how I felt about this place at
http://skimble-scamble.blogspot.in/2012/09/clay-play-day.html and you are welcomed to read it.

revisiting childhood

remember the art classes at school? hadn't picked up a paintbrush since... so to be gently persuaded to spend a hot afternoon painting by own little bowl was fun.
for the bistro part - the service was unhurried, the food was filling, the smoothie oversweet, which am sure goes down well with the babalog that a couple of bored yummymummies seemed to be herding (ayah's day off?)
wish there were more such places around. great to unwind-sans needing to clean up the mess :)

Amazing burgers :-) , Sad Coffee :-(

Been longing to go to this place. Intending to go to Costa, this first came and lo and behold my longing came to an end!

The place is real cosy, we went around 6:45 pm and the place was reasonably packed. Only 2 tables were free.

Initially we wanted to have only coffee, so ordered Cappucino(50 rs) and Cafe Latte(50 rs)...but seeing other tables enjoying Burgers and Sandwiches decided to go for a Burger!

And good we ordered! The burger(Veggie, regular, 70 rs) was super super yummy!

Cappucino and Latte both tasted the same, were too milky, hardly any coffee taste..in short it was awful!

If not for the Burger I would never have gone !

Other things on the menu looks very interesting...eagerly looking forward to going again!

Go for the food...its wonderful!

Creatively Delish

What a neat idea!! Best to go during night, the lights make the place look so much better.

My recommendations - Roadside Rowdy, Crispy Cheesy (smack!), Pasta Mediterranean & Lawrence of Arabia.

If you are in Indiranagar & a burger is what you are craving, head straight to BC.

I love this place for a reason

I have been going to this bistro for may years. I find the food and service to be what I want it to be. They seem to know which of the regulars need a quick meal with their kids, come to read a book or need to be left alone with their friends.

There have been times when the food was not up to the mark or times when the service fell short. It has never bothered me. It has always been clean, laid back and welcoming. For me, this is the essential Bangalore experience. Of course the parks and trees around the place help add to that feeling.

If you are new to Bangalore and would like to know what it was like 20 years ago, if you want to experience the "old world cosmopolitan" spirit of Bangalore, when it was pubs and cafes rather than clubs and malls, then I suggest you visit it once.

Fun, relaxing and delicious food!

What a lovely place! They have some really nice shapes to paint - I painted the bowl. I loved the rustic feel to the place and the food was simply delicious. We tried the Bistro lam burger, Asian grilled chicken salad, French onion soup and the oreo milkshake. The service could be improved but the relaxing atmosphere makes up for it! Great value for money!

A not very cheap rip off of the original

Go here if you like to spend time painting and coloring, go to Truffles on St Marks road if you want the authentic experience. The quality of food is nowhere close to how the burgers at Truffles are.

What an awesome place

Went to this cafe with my friends. We thought it would be another CCD, but it turned out to be so much fun. I didn't know there was a place I could paint and hang out and eat. None of us knew how to paint and we still had so much fun. It's tucked away enough so we felt like we had a private party. Food was superb. the food service was so so. The art service was good.

Cafe with a difference

We stepped into Bistro Claytopia late Friday night, but were lucky enough to find a table in the not-so-conventional coffee place setting. Without a doubt the first thing you notice in this place is the funky craft corner. This almost certainly gets your hope high about the quality of food and services.

Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. We heard so much about the cinnamon flavored coffee, but it was anything but tasty. The regular spritzers were quiet average. Service, however, was fairly nice.

On the whole we seemed to be more exited about the craft corner than the food itself.

Thumbs up: It's different! Decent food, Average coffee. Good for a not-so-cafe-coffee-day experience
Thumbs down: Our's was a disappointing coffee experience. Here's hoping yours isn't.

Yummy food, average service

As one enters the place, it looks rather small and understaffed. And as it turns out, it is all those things. But that does not mean the food is not good. The burgers are amazing. Well cooked, well seasoned and not very heavy on the stomach. They have a select choice of foods and drinks, but all of them really manage to knock it out of the park.. So good food, not very good service, not a very posh place, but if you ever pass by, i recommend you stop and take a bite!

Yum coffee and quick food!

Been to this place several times now. The burgers are really good and quite filling, sandwiches and subs are great for a quick bite to keep you satisfied. The pasta is decent - both veg and non veg, but the garlic bread was too hard and more plain bread than anything else. Don't bother to try the soups, nothing great.
The coffee in this place, though, is Really Good. A nice, big, hot cup of your favourite kind of coffee is sure to keep you happy and coming back here again and again!

A lip smacking burger feast!!

A friend had been after me for ages to visit this place....last night I finally agreed to give in and see what the fuss is all about! I am very apprehensive about trying such eateries considering I am a vegetarian and you dont get decent veg burgers anywhere besides the breakfast menu of McDs (I swear by them). I ordered a Roadside Rowdy an Iced tea while my friend called in for a Chilli chicken with a chocolate smoothie. The Burger arrived in less than 5 minutes....and one bite into it and I knew that I am gonna come back to this place again......hungry for more...!!

The Chocolate smoothie and Iced Tea were brilliant too......and the service a bit on the downside but the Burger made it up for everything else...! Go there with someone special and they will even light up a candle for you. A very decent burger/italian/breakfast place for the ones who dont shy away from trying new places.

My favorite place in Bangalore

I don't know why but this place holds a special charm for me. Not a week goes by without me visiting this inconspicuous little restaurant tucked inside a lane off the bustling 100ft road. The Siciliana pasta is a favorite. So too the Jalapeno poppers. Coffee is excellent and so are the sandwiches. Not too expensive. The Tukpa soup on a cold day hits the spot like no other. Go here if you want to spend some quiet time alone, or if you want to have a nice long conversation with friends.
Negatives? Service is lackadaisical on occasions and you get the feel of being unattended to. But if you do have the time and don't mind not being disturbed by overbearing waiters, this is a treat. Place could do with better chairs though!

Not upto the expectation!!!

After going through so many reviews for this particular food joint me and my friend decided to drop in there in the weekend. Though we were first time visitors we could locate the place easily. When we reached there ,we got to know some in-house party was going on so we had to sit outside where there maintenance work was going on . We were seated there for about 15 min and no one came to attend to us.Moreover it was so messy and the tables were all piled up outside that we decided to go to KFC or Pizza Hut nearby but again we had come all the way from JP Nagar to Indiranagar just to try their burgers specially so we took a chance and went back to Bistro Claytopia. This time luckily we got a table under the shade as it was drizzling also. So finally we got to see the Menu, from which we have ordered one Barbequed Chicken Burger which I must say was really juicy and nice, and a Chicken Submarine but the salami used was cold inside ,so to get a better taste of the food we ordered one more burger. This time it was Chicken Supreme but it tasted just like a regular burger. And the place was really dirty and it was in fact stinking with the smell of eggs. You can take a chance and visit this place the one time but why leave with a bad taste in your mouth because of submarines and burgers. And just because you're having a party that does not mean that the customers sitting outside are left unattended.I am very disappointed because I went with many expectations to this place.

Love it!

Food - I had a combo burger[chicken delight something..] and it was very nice. The burger was sumptuous. I wanted to try the lamb burger but they didn't have lamb. Fries and coke were complementary. I am definitely visiting this place again to try out the other burgers and sandwiches.
Service - Above average. Order arrived within 10-15 mins. No complaints as such.
I remember I had asked the waiter to skip the coke from the burger meal and bring a peach iced tea instead. It was very unexpected when there was no iced tea in the bill to which their explanation was that it was a swap for coke. Never seen anybody do that.
Ambience - The place is loaded with cool artwork. I liked the decorated clay pots. Crowd is an eye pleaser if you know what I mean.
Overall - I loved the experience. Simple things when put together work out very well.

One place kids totally love

Had been to this place to grab a cup of cofee, when it had just opened. It was just another average place with nothing great and my fren din want to go back, as he judges a place by their coffee serve and he didn’t particularly like his.
After reading so many reviews i wanted to give it another shot and somehow convinced him to come along..
Bistro Claytopia is transformed!!
Candlelit in overhead lamp shades, the whole place looked beautiful. The crowd is decent and this painting thingy next door is just amazin where they were clebrating a kid's b'de. This place isn’t too noisy and it gives u good privacy as one can’t overhear the other table.
I tried the "Lamb burger" which i read amazing raves about.. and it was great.. The meat was tender and juicy. They could serve some french fries than some potato chips.
Pretty good place to hangout especially in the evening. Eventho we dint paint i bought a cute lil piggy which was on sale. Next time would surely paint a piggy myself. They have also put up pictures of paintings, b’de parties and scrumptious food. The breakfast pics with sausages and eggs were totally alluring. Will be back the piggy and English breakfast.

Good joint with good food

A little place tucked away in a garage, a perfect setting for catching up with friends, on a low budget. The sandwiches are nice and generous and even the coffee makes the mark. Situated in an accessible place, cozy settings. This place gets all the tick marks in the boxes. The Bistro special and chicken supreme sandwiches are my personal favourite, loaded. The others are also great if you want a quick snack.

Small place with good food

Overall: 3.5
Food: 3.5
Ambience: 3.5
Service: 3

A cloudy Saturday afternoon saw me and my friend catch up at Claytopia. I immediately liked the place, with eclectic artwork on its walls and a gramophone as well (wonder if it really works!) The menus resembled the roadside dhaba’s shoddy printed menus, inscribed with a request to bear with the quality as they were upgrading the menu. I ordered a grilled lamb burger, while my friend ordered a penne alioli, which they served with toast, more English breakfast than pasta. Our orders arrived within ten minutes, and the food was tasty. My burger was quite filling, with the lamb cutlet cooked thoroughly and no chunks of fat in the meat. My friend liked the pasta, though she felt it was a bit oily. The food is reasonably priced considering its location, and best of all, no service charge to make your heart skip a beat.

Loving the Burgers!

Have been frequenting the place for quite some time now. A very nice place to hang out with friends on a lazy afternoon. Amazing food, especially the burgers and I would personally recommend the BBQ chicken burger as its high on flavor, second favourite will have to be the club sandwich! If your thirsty they have amazing shakes! Also if you have lots of time on your hands, do try out painting one of the many items available at reasonable prices. They'll have it glazed and ready in a week and these items make for really good gifts! The place is light on your wallet, must try!

Amazing Food

Very reasonably priced yet scrumptious food.. Try the veggie burger (try the roadside rowdy for the spicier version) and the most fluffiest masala omelletes. The Alioli pasta is one of the most well done pastas I have ever had.
Worth more than one visit.

Worth the hike!

Getting to Bistro usually involves a decent twenty minute hike from my house but it is always worth it. Even hung over, drained and starving, I have convinced several group of friends to make this pilgrimage and it has never failed to reward us, with mouthwatering, juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside bistro lamb burger...oh sink those teeth into heaven. The club sandwich is pretty good as is the slum dog. The shakes and frappes are quite excellent, not excessively sweet and I believe regardless of how hungry I am when I get there, the food is always spectacular. The service needs a review of its own! The waiters are brisk, some can remember twenty orders verbatim when it has only been spoken once to them and they have outdone themselves with speed and efficiency. In fact, I would say this is undoubtedly one of the best places to eat at in bangalore.

Perfect balance between good food and the price!!

Claytopia the Bistro – One of my favorite coffee shops. As some of the other people have stated, just some real honest food. Sitting in the the open is just as great as sitting amongst the hand painted clay work on the inside.

I was there one of the days it rained like crazy. It was a wonderful feeling just sitting there seeing the world go by. People and vehicles going by splashing through the puddles of water. I was sipping on a hot cup of cappuccino coffee (Rs. Forgot the price.) at that time. Just the perfect drink at the right time.

My friends tagged along and we ended up trying other food items on the menu like the Chicken Salad Sandwich (Rs. 70). The sandwich had chicken, mayo, capsicum, onion and lettuce. The Tukpa (Rs. 75). This dish was perfect for the weather. Noodles in a peppery soup with chicken and a whole lot of vegetables like capsicum, mushroom, carrot.

We also tried the Bistro Lamb burger (Rs 125). This was scrumptious. Filled with fried egg. the lamb patty, Onion rings, cabbage and mayo. No jalapenos added were as the menu suggested.

The added beauty of this place is that you will be able to do pottery painting while you taste the lovely food that is on the menu.

The staff were great, They ‘do not’ nag like some other coffee shops that i have been to.

So if you are in and around Indranagar and are dying for a cup of coffee and a quick bite, This is a great place to visit.

4.5 points for the food.
4 points for the ambience.
5 points for the price.

Simple and True

This place has a very laid back atmosphere where you can thoroughly enjoy the mouth watering food without intimidation. No fancy pansies... Just you, few people to serve you and your food + some pottery if you like it. It stands true to the very meaning of what a place that serves food should prioritize on well that is FOOD with a great twist of pottery. We love their burgers, Cheese jalapeno poppers and drinks. The price is very reasonable. For 600 bucks you can get a starter, two main courses, two drinks, and a side. LOVE IT!

Finger licking food at dirt cheap prices

"Finger licking food at dirt cheap prices" is one line to describe this place. I did not even go to the clay painting stuff because I just went to check out the food.

Following are the dishes I tried:

Paneer Roll: The paneer filling was good but the chapati on roll could have been softer.

Veggie Burger: Tasted nice and the sized just enough. Extra topping of mushrooms made it more enjoyable.

Cheese Mushroom Omelet: This one was the killer. The cheese just appropriate, the mushrooms just as soft and the egg as roasted as it should be. Was served with two crisp breads, a very filling dish. Simple dishes indulge us enough at times, this is one of them.

Besides these I also ordered plain garlic bread, which was soft and buttered well and then topped up my food with a simple cappuccino, superb closure to a hearty meal.

Food 9/10
Ambiance 7/10 (They can work on this a lot)
Service 9/10 (Very quick and prompt)
Cost 9/10 (All dishes run between 50 to 100 bucks)

Overall 8.5/10

First the two unique starters - Spaghetti cheese something and another chicken one, both were unavailable... we ordered Onion rings and Spicy Chicken(Cant remember the name) and both were soooooooooooo oily... yuck. My friend orders a bistro spl salad...and it was only lettuce and olives and hardly any chicken in it.. the dessert variety was very poor..and the Bistro spl sandwich was the one's I could make at home..nothing great.. The chicken roll was good and the veg sandwich quite plain. I didnt feel like it was worth all that hype.. and the food was definitely not worth the price.

Good food, service could be better

I am a lover of the burger, this place I have gone to many times. I love the food here. The bistro lamb burger is my favorite burger in Bangalore. I like the french fries, wedges and all.
I only wish you would improve the service a little. The staff could smile more especially the south Indian boy and the others could understand us a little more. They should take the orders better.
anyway I rate this place highly as the food is excellent.

Really disjointed service

Was there yest evening. Only 4 tables were occupied. Dont know if it was because we landed there around 4PM, but our orders came one by one. 5 minutes after d order, my doppio came (acceptable), 2 minutes later, my wife's espresso came, 10 minutes later came d chicken burger (passable, but the potato chips were starting to go stale), another 5 minutes later, the hot dog that my son ordered appeared. I had ordered a french toast - I expected it before the rest of the food was finished... looked like they forgot about it completely. Asked for the order to be cancelled - was done immediately, no apologies for the delay - possibly it was not yet prepared. Summary - food is ok, service needs improvement and the clay painting option, excellent.

Unusual place -Fantastic food and fun painting

The food here is superb. The chicken pasta and bistro garlic bread yummmy. Painting here is also a a lot of fun. I always thought it was for kids. Thank god I checked out the place... one of the best in town to hang out.
They had a saree exhibition yesterday and the designer told me that the owners are women and they let out the space for a very low price for women designers and artists. Nice to know that someone is trying to help in a real way.

Outing with a Difference

First off: WOW... nothing like I expected. Thats a good thing, btw.

For me, the food is important, but the experience is what makes the difference between a one time only and a repeater. This place is definitely a repeater.

The Place:
There are actually two different areas of service. One is outdoors, more like a gap between the compound wall and the building. This is the cafe area with a few tables. We had gone in the night and the main lighting source was candles kept on the table. If you're going for a romantic scenario, this is quite good.

The second is the building itself. There are a few tables here with two bathrooms (gents and ladies). The walls and window sills are lined with shelves with white clay items and decorated ones. The white clay items include: small hearts, butterflies, turtles, crocodiles, sharks, a 4 wheeler (looks like a 4 wheel bike), 3 different types of boxes with lids, plates, 2 types of mugs, kettles, and dogs. These are the ones you get to paint for yourself.

The Food:
Just a regular cafe type food list with burgers, sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, finger food, cappuccino, tea, etc. The prices are quite cheap. We ordered pancakes, cheese and tomato sandwich, and a cappuccino. Bill for the food, including tax was Rs. 188. Not bad at all. The quantity was decent considering the prices. If they charged more, I would expect more food on the table. My only crib about the pancakes was the maple syrup. It can in a small bowl and was enough only for one pancake, one and half at the most. I'm the kinda guy who loves to drench his pancake with syrup, so it was a bit of a let down. I didn't ask for more, as I was more interested in making sure my 1 year old didn't demolish the place. :)

The Experience:
This is the WOW and the thing that'll make this one of the best outings we've had as a family. My wife and I had decided to get our son's hand prints on some clay item for a memento of his childhood. I had tried getting one of those DIY kits at Mothercare, but found them to be too expensive.

As we browsed through their collection, we were aided by one of their staff. She took time to show us the items that would suit our painting needs. Finally, we settled on a 1/2 litre kettle. She then brought a kettle, a bowl filled with water, and a small tablet containing a sample of all available colors. We were given a choice of about 12 and told to select 4.

By this time, the food had arrived and had been consumed. We had placed the order at the cafe area before entering the shop. Just as we finished with our selection of the kettle, the food was prepared and brought to us. The tables already have a mug filled with different types of brushes, so we waited only on the paint.

The paint was brought in on a small tray with six paint compartments and four were ready with the colors we choose. Choosing colors is easy as all the items around you have been decorated with the same colors, just pick whichever catches your eye.

You can use two coats of paint on the clay, anything more will bubble ( I think thats what she said ). We started by painting in the background color and the handle. Then we painted our son's hand, so that we can place the same on the kettle. This was not the way to go. The end result was horrible and looked nothing like a hand print. Using a sponge, we ended up wiping off all the paint, putting the handprint first and then painting around it. I'm mentioning this, so that if you are tempted to do anything similar, you know how to go about it.

We ended up spending about an hour doing all this, with the one year old running every which way. Once we finished, we were told that the kettle will be baked and glazed and should be ready for pickup in 10 days.

The Price:
Each clay item is priced depending on size. It starts at Rs. 220 (heart, butterfly) to Rs. 500 (kettle, plate, large mug), plus 13.5% tax.

Final Note:
It was a blast. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we are thinking of reasons to go back with friends and relatives (anyone with kids) :)
I'm just anxious to see what our little piece of art looks like when it's finished. :)

The bill had to be paid at 2 separate counters, one for the food and one for the clay painting.

Good Food, Less Quantity..

When you order something for like 170 quids.. you bloody need quantity... the taste is amazing and super place to sit.. its like sitting in your house under a pergola and eating..
Service is good.. but just to confirm i asked the bearer if the Pasta is enough for one person and he goes.. yes yes.. very Sufficient.. and after a while he comes back with very disappointing small bowl of Pasta... some time this make you loose all your appetite.. but i can vouch for the taste and Quality. The Orange Juice we ordered was good and Fresh. its a nice place for a super conversation.

Must try

The ambience was nice, the decor very creative, and the secluded location made the late sunday lunch even more relaxed.
Food was good. We ordered a classic chicken burger, chicken bbq burger and a mushroom cheese omelette. The classic burger was a bit let down. But the other two were pretty good.
The coffees were excellent.
The damage was around 500 for 3.. super value for money!!

Great place for a first date - impressive and ....

This place is really different. There is a sense of no one watching you here. So yes the waiters are really not looking at you sometimes, but that is just awesome. You can chill all day. The food is excellent. The lamb burger really good. The veggie chat sandwich with cheese is great. The chicken and mushroom pasta is really good. The momos are good.It is available on some days, wish they would make it permanent. The coffee is strong. The chocolate mousse is what you should have here. It is like eating chocolate just softer.
The painting thing is great to do with a girl. It is affordable and impressive. A subject to talk about as well. They also set you up in a seperate room if you ask them to. The tables at the back are nice at night.
This is a must go to place.

bad timing!?

I love American food. And After having read all the good reviews, and the place being just a couple of minutes walk from my place, me and my wife and daughter went to Bistro Claytopia for dinner tonight.

The place was romantic, not crowded and seating was good. We're vegetarian, and I did not even have to see the menu to order onion rings, french fries, a veggie burger and rowdy veg burger, and a cold coffee and cappuccino.

The coffees were excellent. Onion rings was well presented, but tasted bad, without salt and too much oil, French fries was alright except for the bad oil smell in it.
Then came the burgers, the patties were good, bun was'nt too good, and they seem to have used some kind of a sweet tasting sauce in it, which made the whole burger taste bad. My wife could smell eggs in the bun, I also felt the bun in the burger could have been better.

We did not have the mood to have deserts, though the deserts in the desert counter looked good. And my stomach did not feel good about the bad smelling oil used for french fries and onion rings.

All restaurants have their bad days, I probably went there on a bad day or at a bad time(9.30 p.m).
I may try it again, if I feel really adventurous, and if I see any more good reviews.

Rotten food.

We just ordered some home delivery of a burger and some other stuff. The paneer roll was okay and I would say the onion rings were quite good. But the burger had gone bad.

When we called up and complained they said that they would let the supplier know. Its awful to learn that a restaurant which calls itselt a `bistro' does not even make a simple thing like a veg burger fresh ! I know for a fact that these mass produced products are pretty cheap - less than 10 rupees for it - so they have a six-fold markup and then the send you a rotten one ! I dont think I could recommend this `bistro' - at leas they dont call themselves a `resto' and perhaps wont be ordering anything from them anytime soon.

Not bad at all

Easily accessible yet far from the madding crowd kind of a feel.
Sat outside but still the noise from the few passing vehicles wasn't enough to distract attention from the endless banter that we indulged in on meeting a couple of long lost friends.

Hazelnut coffee- excellent
Cafe latte- hard to get wrong
Assam tea- nice tea bags
Veg Burger- excellent
Grilled Chicken with sauce- bland and tasteless or maybe its just the spice loving Indian taste-bud that it didn't appeal (had to ask for salt and pepper)

All in all a nice evening experience.

Way below expectations

We had gone there today afternoon with very high expectations after reading other reviews. Here is what we ordered:
1) Mixed Mushroom pasta : a bit salty but tasted good.
2) Roadside rowdy veggie burder: the lettuce looked old. A bit oily, burger tasted ok
3) Roadside rowdy chat sandwich: below avg; butter and mayo (??), cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes. Am not sure where the "chat" part was present.

Also though there were just two other patrons, the place had a dusty look. Needs a good scrub to spruce up the place.

Wonderful

I have to say that I went to Bistro Claytopia with a lot of expectations, and the place really surprised me.

It was my wife's BDay and I was in a quest for finding something different to do rather than a usual dinner date. While surfing burrp I came across this Bistro and should I thank God or what. We had experienced the same in a place called As You Wish in Arizona, US and so were thrilled that we had something similar in our own backyard. The staff were very helpful and took great care of us. The food was also awesome and well priced.

When we go back to get our baked and glazed items we are taking along with us two other friends of ours so that they can also experience what we did.

the best veg burger in town!!

as a vegetarian your choices of veg patty based burgers are limited. I've been to a lot of places and either the burgers have been to pricey or just plain pathetic excuse for a burger. Claytopia has its pro's and con's. I do think its Understaffed sometimes and they have errors on their menu (which i shall mention later)

But as an establishment that stands on its own unlike franchises around, its a brilliant nook with barely audible music that helps in actual conversations. And the special veg Road Side Rowdy Burger. Spicey, Unique and Filling. and for 55 bucks its VFM. add to that they have this coffee called the cafe mexicana (which i refer to as Tex Mex) erroneously marked at 30 but its actually 45 Rs. They do forget the whipped cream when we initially discovered the tex mex, but since we are a regular they have been adding it. I think the management should come up with a combo offer for these two items. :). The cold and the regular coffee's are decent and i can't vouch for the Non veg food, but i'm told by my carnivorous friends that the lamb burger is pretty good.

the place is divided into 2 sections. One is primarily a Cafe and the other is this crafts and arts place, so once in a while the kids who come there with their mums and ayahs do get sugar high from sniffing paint and eating pastries and running around like their hair is on fire... but yeah... Its definitely an option if you have a kid, they'll be occupied with painting bit. that part i haven't personally tried. nevertheless its a place to grab a bit and some conversation.

Oh and the lady who runs the place sometimes serves you when its packed and understaffed and also one of the earliest times i tried claytopia, Me and My Girl were having a rough day and the bill was delayed for which she apologized and heard our sob story and gave us a "fancy" gold wrapped home made chocolate to cheer us up, she honestly made our day in terms of service. :)

the wrost place i ever went in bangalore....

we went yesterday night(02-May-2010) for dinner , around 8.30PM we reached the place and almost all the table were empty but no table was clean. then finally a waiter cleared a table for us.. then we decided to order onion rings & some soup. the waiter took the order and then came back to say its not there... to be frank "ITS NOT THERE'" was the word we heard the most at this place... then i asked for a basic LIME SODA for which the waiter replied there is NO SODA at the place, what the heck is that ? a CAFE which is not stocked with a SODA. I guess the MENU is only huge not their kitchen to stock things.. then i decided to take a SLUM DOG which was not there either. then i really got upset with the place which doesn't have nothing but coffee i guess. so we moved out..

i saw the burrp award on way out "MOST CREATIVE" i guess burrp should give "NOT AVAILABLE" award to this place.. which will be very correct.. we decided never to go and also tell everyone never to visit this WORST PLACE. But one thing i was happy was that i was planing to visit this place for My Birthday good i didn't otherwise it would have be a bad experience on my day ...

A little haven for kids and moms in Indiranagar

It is refereshing to have a place for children to be creative, rather than play video games or watch another movie. It really allows the kids to be themselves in an open and beautifully done space. There are toys like slides and seesaws for little kids. The people are exceptionally warm.
For those of you who don't know about this place it is a quaint little cafe and art sudio on 6th main Indiranagar. It is warm, strangely homely and unusual all at the same time. Plants in the veranda, pottery on the wall, white walls, giving a sense of home in hills or something similar.
What you can do here is paint on clay. They have white clay they get from North India, that has been moulded and fired to about 700 degrees. This is called Bisk, the base to create ceramice ware. You can choose from these peices ranging from 180 to 600 rupees. For each bisk they let you choose 5 colors. I think they have 16 colors to choose from. I am not sure. These colors are specially created for painting on these bisks. They also set up a table with paper to draw on to practise before drawing on the bisk. (I highly recommend this for kids as they often start painting and change their mind and want to take more bnisk to paint on.) They provide you with water, briushes, pencils, stencils and books to help you paint. You can ask them for suggestions and I find thier service excellent. Always with a smile. There are some rules to follow, like not putting many too much color on the bisk etc. Do ask them and follow them. It makes a big difference. You can take as long as you want to paint.
Once you finish, they keep it for ten days to do the process of making it ceramic ware. They spray paint glaze, liquid glass on to it, and fire it to 1000 plus degrees. So when you collect it, it is glossy and bright. You can wash it and eat from it. It is dishwasher and microwave safe!!
Well the best part is, they have really good kid freindly food that I love too. So you have no cranky kids on hand. It is the perfect mom time. You can sit under the canopy outside sip on your cappucino, eat a roadside rowdy chicken sandwich, my favorite, and read a book. Bliss!
The service in the Bistro can vary. Sometimes the new people take time and I often ask for my regular guys back.
The food though has been realy good all along. The kids have the chicken pasta and spicy chicken burger. Oreo milk shake. Standard fare for them.
Ofcourse our house has many an art work from here now. We gift many. I love it for my kids and me.

Mayo. thats criminal. Why would you toast bread with butter, and then add mayo to whatever filling for a simple sandwich??
The taste is a tad too 'buttery'.
The veggie sandwich though was good. Wish I'd have got some panini instead of the standard 'cool-joint' sandwich bread.

My favorite place in Bangalore

After living in India for 2 years and living in Bangalore for 1 and a half years, I declare Bistro Claytopia my favorite place to hang out and eat.
Yes there is a severe lack of lager and metal. It is still a super place to hang out. There is no pressure to order anything or go.
The food is excellent. I have never fallen sick there. The service is good usually. I paint some gifts while hanging out there to take home when I go and eveyone seems to love it. Its a place to take everyone and everyone so far has loved it. So it is my favorite place here.

The perfect little secret in town.

This place is really well done. It has been done up like a five star place meets home. It is really worth the money. I love places like Shiro, which is beautiful but expensive. This is a coffee shop that is really reasonable. They give you a pasta for 140 as opposed to a place that is run by a cook, Rogue elephant, where the pasta is Rs. 250. The pastas at claytopia are really good too. amazing. The inside is done very mediteranian. Outside eclectic. I love sitting there. The people who come here are really varied. Interesting mix. The food is great. Service ok. ambience brilliant. The concept of painting on ceramic is refreshing and a great thing to cherish. It is really the perfect litttle secret in town...

Nothing very special

But after a point the menu gets a little boring. Also just as a warning, the service is a bit confused...very courteous but genuinely confused...have no idea what to do with you and your needs...so if in a hurry...this may not be your place

Also, to be mentioned...too many such places with similar food now so other than the painting pottery concept that is restaurant offers ( very high priced as well ), it has nothing tremendously new to offer.

But if in the vicinity and nowhere else to go...its worth a try once!

Veggie Review

I ordered over the phone and told them that I'll come in 10 minutes to pick up my order. The order wasn't ready when I arrived.

I had ordered for a Veggie Supreme and Mushroom and Cheese sandwich, both on brown bread.

The Veggie Supreme was pretty good, though I wished there were a little more veggies in the sandwich.

The Mushroom & Cheese sandwich was disappointing. The bread was white and there was barely any cheese inside.

The Lime slush was pretty good too. I felt the pricing is very good, not too expensive and not too cheap.

Would definitely want to go back to try their deserts and shakes.

This place was called Ice & Spice till a year or so ago. The Claytopia folks took this over & it became "The Bistro". Thankfully they haven't changed much in the food department. This is a really nice place for comfort food. Some really huge & hearty burgers, sandwiches & not very authentic but tasty as hell pasta. The drinks are nice, prices are not very high & service is attentive & very polite. There's ample parking available in the evenings - all in all makes for a nice experience. Highly recommended.

One of the worst places-bad food, pathetic service

Just been to Bistro Claytopia today. The first impression was ok. We placed the order and waited patiently.
After half an hour the waiter came back and said that the burger we ordered was not available. We asked him to bring whatever is available.

The veg burger was not so bad, but the chicken burger was pathetic. It was just a thin slice of chicken fried and placed between bread.
The egg roll was cold.
The chicken salad barely had any chicken.
My friend ordered another sandwich.. and after half an hour, came another burger instead of the sandwich.

We were pissed off by this time and decided to call the manager. As if all this was not enough, when we complained to the manager, he went inside the kitchen and didnt come out after that. After a lot of calls he finally came out, but it was clear that it was of no use talking to him.

We finally asked for the owner's name and number. But they refused to give even that.

I would request the owner to either manage the place better or shut shop.

Went there recently, 5 of us and had a good time. The waiters are considerate too. We had ordered a cheesy Fries that just had cheese only on top...on objecting he promptly poured some more into it. The Lamb burgers are perhaps the best Ive had so far. The Cappuccino was way better than the stuff you get at CCD or Barista. To pass time you cud make urself busy with the pottery. Simple & Unpretentious with great food

I have been to this place countless number of times - The quality of food is very good and remains the same every time. Be it veg/non-veg sandwiches or subs, omelettes or potato wedges, they are really good. On the drinks side, there are hot & cold coffees & frappes.

On veg subs/sandwiches, cheese & mushroom is a very good option. Chicken Mayo, if you like cold chicken sandwich or you can opt for the grilled one. On drinks, my favorite is Hazelnut Frappe. I suggest you don't attempt the kiwi drink! - In a gang of 6, none of us liked it! :) Otherwise, most of it are fine. On the hot coffee side, Hazelnut coffee is too mild - You will get slight tinge of hazelnut which is good, but it is not a strong coffee. If you are the strong coffee kind, then this may not be for you. Brownie with ice cream is really delicious. The brownies are always very fresh. Anyway, check it out at the counter before you order it!

The ambience is very modest & filled with many art works from the next door Claytopia art shop. They blend pretty well. It is a uber cool place to chill & relax with friends/family while having great food.

The service is on the slower side - Remember, it is a place to relax! If you are in a hurry, you can request them to be fast. They co-operate pretty well.

Average cost per person is Rs.100-120 (One sandwich & soft drink).

Undoubtedly, this is one of my favorite bistro. My friends & me hangout here almost every week!!

The staff doesn't know what they're talking about most of the time and they only serve one kind of waffle. The pancakes are more like the South Indian uttapams and there was a hair in my golden syrup - disgusting.

The service is extremely slow. I had to remind them that I had actually placed an order. Don't bother trying the grilled cheese sandwich - I could make one at home that's even better, and I'm not a good cook. It's just a bit of cheese in between two thin slices of white bread slapped together.

I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

The place where art and food meet

Try the Green apple and the sandwiches here and trust me you'll be back again craving for more of this place. The service is good and the ambiance of this place kind of relaxes and soothes into you. Being next to claytopia you can get great food while you paint your own masterpiece on porcelain pots, hearts, plates or the various other porcelain they have. This is a lovely place to hang out in and I would strongly recommend it for those who not only love great food but also the chance to create something special for their loved ones.
Cheers! :-) I give this place 5/5
