Butter Dosa At It's Best!
Shree Sagar, better known as CTR, is one of the most famous restaurants in Bengaluru. It is located on 7th Cross, Margosa Road, Malleshwaram. My friend suggested this place when I asked her which would be a good restaurant to meet up for breakfast on a Saturday morning.
There were 9 of us that day. We decided to grab a few tables on the 1st floor as the ground floor was too congested.
If you come in a big group, you will have to wait for a table because all of them will be taken. So be prepared to wait.
The most famous item at Shree Sagar is Benne Masala Dosa. The crispy/soft dosa has a generous portion of butter smeared on the outside and inside of the dosa. The potato bhaji which is stuffed inside is filled with flavor. Just tear a piece, dip it in the chutney and then straight into the mouth. It tastes like heaven!
Most of my friends ordered this, while I had ordered Benne Dosa as I am not a fan of bhaji. The coriander chutney was good, but my all time favorite, coconut chutney, complemented the dosa very well.
After the first round, we went for a second round of ordering. I ordered one plate of khara bhaath (Upma). It was not too dry and not too oily. There were a few onions in it and I felt as if I was eating the upma that my mom makes at home. As my stomach was full from the dosa, I shared the khara bhaath with my friend. She dipped it in the chutney and ate, while I devoured it just by itself.
Two of my friends ordered for a plate of crispy hot vada which was served with sambhar and chutney. The vada was not very oily and I heard the sambhar was excellent.
Last but not the least, we ordered a glass of hot filter coffee. It was very soothing and everyone was happy to gulp it down after a delicious breakfast.
The prices are reasonable and most importantly, everyone really enjoyed the food and company!
If you don't like crowded places, I would not recommend this restaurant to you.
But if you like good food, fast service and a place which is not too heavy on your wallet, then Shree Sagar is the place for you.
I headed there, once again, for what Bangalore calls a late breakfast for what turned out to be a lovely meal. Right at the corner, in a small place in the beautiful area of Malleshwaram (beautiful because i have some lovely memories there as a child) is this extremely famous eating house. I need not say much about this place since the 20 minute long queue speaks for itself, and let me tell you, the wait is frickin worth it. This was easily the best Dosa i have had in recent times and fully intend to eat there as often as possible. Service is quick, friendly and efficient, keeping in mind that this place is always bustling with people. We ate loads there and compared to elsewhere, we would happily pay the bill amount for the quality and quantity of food we had here.
Watch before you eat !
WATCH BEFORE YOU EAT AT CTR ( SRI SAGAR ) !!!
Last month when we went to eat Butter Masala Dosa we found few hairs in Dosa and complained to server . There was no reaction or regret and I paid the full bill ! Before coming out I escalated this issue to the owner sitting at the cash counter and there was no regret or even an iota of remorse on his face !
Few days back we went again and ordered butter masala Dosa and rava idli ! Alas , we find hairs in rava idli ! This time the waiter expressed sorry but again the same owner was sitting at cash counter and he didn't feel bad and he was expressionless!
I think there must be several people complaining on such issues and that is why he doesn't care !! His attitude is pathetic as all come despite he maintaining the hotel kitchen in a pathetic manner !
My question is , how can reputed organisation like BURRP ignore such facts as above and allow them to display BURRP certificate at the entrance ! I am deceived of cleanliness and quality by this restaurant !!
My friends , I say watch before you eat ! If you get any external material in your food , please escalate to public and to the owner ! Let him change his attitude towards customer and cleanliness ! Let Food inspection department visit periodically and ensure that clean restaurants only are given licence to run and we do not cheated by owners of " infamous" CTR !!!
the true golden dosa by its true sense.
This place is called Sree sagar as it was recently renovated, it is located in malleswaram, near the police station and opp to the malleswaram circle grounds. This place is known its ancient decor, which has been around for a while, atleast 6 decades n so, it is as old as MTR in bangalore. This place is synonym for Masala Dosa. You can die for eating this dosa, its one of the finest masala dosa you could ever eat with the dolloping dose of butter on the crispy golden dosa with mashed potato stuffed in .you cant eat just one:) have been visiting this places for ages since the prices have tripled actually:P
Best of the Dosas
CTR is the default destination for BMD. Its iconic status is so high that once you visit this place, whether you like or not wait staff would invariably ( ofcourse why not) offer you the delectable piece de resistance of the culinary offering at this joint ie Benne Masala Dosa: that is so unique and tantalizingly inviting for the uninitiated and the loyal customers alike....
But then the whole experience is only enhanced of late. Thanks to the renovated infrastructure.
Equally I must add...that this whole experience can be relished only if you have the acquired taste of relishing the benne masala dosa that is so particular to Karnataka ...but not uniformally embraced by the other South Indian folks in general. If you are a naturalized citizen of Bangalore, then there is every likelihood that you do not even need the introduction to BDM in general and CTR in particular...
So go decided either you wish to be initiated into the rich hoary culinary history or just demonstrate your consumer loyalty with the consistently quality Dosas at this joint...
Wish their other offerings are equally good so that I would be happy to rate it at Excellent grade...
Best Masala Dosas ever !!!
The best masala dosas.. should be had hot. Their 'Benne Masala' is by far the best dosa I have ever had. The mangalore bajji and Rava idlis are also nice and you can finish off with a true south indian coffee. This place is mostly crowded and you should be ready to wait... but it is truly worth the wait.
best dosa in blore
Jam Packed place, still quick & instant service. Located in busy locale, this is the right place for Dosa lovers. If you are a die hard fan of South Indian Tiffin / Fast food, you must try CTRs "Benne (Butter) Masala Dosa". This is perfect mix of Thick & Crisp dosa with perfect amount & taste of butter and coconut chutney.
For starter, you can try "Mangalore Bhajji" along with this.
The Iconic Destination for Dosa
In Bangalore, there are only few destinations that rival the iconic heritage home grown THE destinations for Dosa: amongst which CTR does command leading position...with its benne masala dosa: for its sheer consistency in taste, lovely sheen of fresh butter melting surface hiding the yummy masala within.
But then...this taste is very typical and characteristic of the dosas in Bangalore or er lets say in Karnataka...but those who has acquired the taste that is unique in TN or in AP, this may be a slightly disappointing; for the dosa has very Satvik flavor to it.
Wish I give 5/5 but for the blandish chutney that accompanies the Dosa....there could be more of zing and freshness in the chutney...
This is an old institution considered to be one of the best in bangalore for dosas.
And who could argue with that claim. The ghee roast masala dosa is the best by far.
It's crisp and heavy and served only with chutney, but the taste is something to remember.
The place is small and always overcrowded, and you might have to wait and share the table with strangers, but the food is worth waiting for.
Bene Masala & Coffee
Tried the CTR for what its know for...the Bene masala dosa and coffee. The dosa is super heavy on the butter (white butter I think)...looks tiny but kinda filled me up surprisingly. Being a tea person, I actually loved the filter coffee served here. They're good with their Kesari bhaat too, but were all out till I reached. Maybe next time. Need to try Bene dosa's elsewhere so where CTR stands.
