I was part of an Expat group which convened at this restaurant. I was informed that it serves the best authentic Chinese food in Bangalore meaning that the recipes were not "Indianized" to suit the Indian palate.
I was not impressed at all. Although it did not taste Indianized, it was not very impressive Chinese food.
Before being lead to our tables, we had a cocktail service in the bar area with free flowing white/red wine. That was nice. The wines were served in their proper glasses. We were also served fish sticks and fried wantons. These were not good as they seemed to have been bought frozen and not home made.
Since we came as a group and the food was just shuttled out to us, I do not have the names of the dishes themselves. There were dumplings, there was also a baked fish submersed in a tangy ketchup. There was also fried rice which was good.
The atmosphere was the positive point of the evening. Besides being with a wonderful and interesting group of people, it was nice to be outside with the wind nicely blowing. The smokers had no problem finding a place along the edges to light up. I am sure that they enjoyed the possibility of smoking without having to leave the room.
The service was just ok. Nothing to write home about.
I would go back to this restaurant and have an experience of eating there without being part of a group. Maybe that would make a difference.
Since this restaurant is close to my grandparents place,I find myself eating here quite often. The open-air rooftop ambiance is nice and relaxed and makes for a great Sunday family dinner. Service is efficient too.
I like to start my meal with a mocktail called Sunset (Rs.150). The Tawawala macchi (Rs.300), stir fried fish in garlic pepper (Rs.300), chilly chicken (Rs.250) and steamed momos are great starters.
For the mains, I usually go with a chicken and prawn fried rice and some gravy. Recently, I tried their Thai red curry chicken with steamed rice (Rs.250) and it was very good too.
Don't forget to try their sticky toffee with ice cream (Rs.150), great way to end your meal!
They have an extensive menu, with Indian, oriental, and Italian cuisine. I'd suggest to stick with oriental food here.
This is the first time I'm writing a review as I normally find it tedious! But I thought I should devote at least 5 minutes to write about Highnote! Been here MANY times. The food is always good, what I really like is the consistency. There are no bad hair days for this chef! The pan fried noodles, bacon wrapped prawns, chilly pork, mushrooms in paprika and caramel custard are all yum!
A best-kept secret which is not the restaurant
High Note is fairly well known. Good Asian and Euro food, Live band yadayadayada. Nothing special. Another standardfare solid 'anytime' Bangalore eatery.
Bengali cuisine. Best in Bangalore full stop. And this includes the famous ones, this includes the specific-to-Bengali-food ones, this includes every restaurant. If you want better or more authentic Bengali food, you will have to visit the homes of your Bong colleagues and friends.
This is what we tried: there were three of us. Steamed rice (3), Alu Poshto, Ucche Alu Bhaja, Mango daal and Mustard Malai prawn. The chutney which they included, was amazing too. No complaints whatsoever.
And reasonably priced too.
Food n Ambiance
Loved the ambiance & great food. Foodies (Veg/Non Veg) a must visit place to enjoy the cuisine. Ideally place for wine n candle light dinner or light moments with friends.
_ve : As we were 2 of us, the table for 2 was uncomfortable :( better seating experience is what we look forward to...
Amazing Rooftop Experience
My friend and I went there for an after work stress buster!! And it worked!
They certainly did not skimp on the alcohol, unlike most places which water them down. Their roast chilli pork managed to hit the spot. High 5 one of their signature dishes was both succulent and superbly flavoured.
Service was prompt and the waiters were attentive but not friendly. Would definitely go there again.
P.S: You must check out the icons on their washroom doors!! Really cute!!
Glass chambers for Non-smokers
High Note is an amazing place, beautiful ambiance, good food, fresh refreshing breeze. But sadly all of this is for Smokers. 'Non-smokers'; the lesser mortals are accommodated in closed door glass chambers. What an irony?
BTW isn't smoking banned in public spaces?
