I just wanted to try some Chinese food and I was at BEL Road well there were lots of options at this place however, I met all my friend and decided to have our lunch at hunan.
The food here was fresh and well cooked flavors well maintained
Ambiance is also great
Not too expensive because we all Dutch our bill and it came up to 300 bucks each.
ultimately we all loved the food at this restaurant.
Hi... We went for Lunch Buffet. While entering its ambiance was very good. But, the buffet spread was not much
Starters : Potato fries and French Fires ( no paneer or mushroom only potatoes, Guys wake up who goes for having potato for such a long distance:
Main Course : One noodles and rice and mix Gravy ( Not too good )
Desserts : Vanilla ice cream ( no choice of ice cream) and some ffruits
For this things they charged 280+ 24% taxes..!!!
Really i was disappointed and went half stomach..!! :(
This is my second visit to this place and I love the food here. Its a bit on the expensive side however if the taste and quality is maintained would not mind it. We tried the pork ribs which was very good and dimsums too. However noodles we ordered were just average, rest was good so worth the visit and wld surely come back cheers.
good food but overpirced as per locality..
Lovely food!!!! I have been there many times since it opened in New Bel Road near ramaih. great food.. In between there food quality had become bad but now it had become good again.. I took my relatives to this place who had come from bengal.. and they too praised the food..I guess the menu has been changed now as compared to earlier and even the prices have inreased ... earlier for 3 of us the bill would come 500 and now for 2 people it costs 700-900!! Keeping the college crowd into consideration I think the management shoudl work on reducing prices.. this will boost up there sales..
I went to Hunan in mid February to relish their weekday lunch buffet. Now I am a person who does NOT like Chinese food, especially if its bland and oily. But the food at Hunan is splendid..flavourful rice and noodles with tangy and spicy accompaniments. Ambience is good..not too formal, ideal for a lunch with friends or a team lunch. This is definitely a break from other places nearby which mainly seem to cater to the college crowd. Hunan is a place where you can have a team lunch, celebrate a birthday..informal.
Coming to the sit-down buffet, there is ample food for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. For about Rs 200 a pop, you get soup of the day, one starter, chef's special noodles, chef's special rice with gravy, sauces and dessert. That day, it was the classic hot and sour soup..can't go wrong with it. The veg starter was spring rolls which were fried to perfection. But I could only taste cabbage in them. Non-veg starter was chicken drumsticks, which my friend says, were perfect. Schezwan fried rice was hands down the best I've ever had, following which it was quite hard to make place for noodles (forgot the variety) served with a gravy which had a lemony tinge and refreshingly different. Dessert was fruit salad with ice cream which was sadly limited to a single portion. But when we asked for more ice cream, the owner of the restaurant was kind enough to get us more..really nice guy. :)
Everything other than the dessert is unlimited and the portion served at your table is just right for a serve. Great starters, nice ambiance, VFM buffet.
My friend and I went all the way to this part of the town only to eat food at this place. After driving a long way and asking for directions, we reached this place which is in the beginning of a residential area!! Reliance Trends would be good landmark you could look for. Hunan is just next to it. The restaurant is on the first floor and as you enter the dining hall, you would notice a nicely done interiors. Its not overly done with crimson red and bamboo all over like a few other Chinese places in Bangalore. The dining hall well lit with the natural light and theyve made space in between the hall for groups who would prefer private space.
Both my friend and I were so hungry, we ordered the soup, starter and the main course together with some help and recommendation from one of the staff!! We ordered one by two Lemon Coriander thick soup, Stuffed Mushroom with Ginger Garlic Sauce, Vietnamese Fried Rice and Three Kinds of Braised Mushroom in Ginger Garlic Sauce.
The soup was good with finely chopped vegetables. The salt was less but, it was ok. Next came the best part of the menu!! The stuffed mushroom was just too good, crispy, tasty, juicy and healthy!! Both of us got 4 each n we wished there was more! I know this place was pretty known for their starters but, dint know they make is so well and leave us craving for more. If we hadnt already ordered for the main course, I would have probably ordered 2 more starters and preferred to eat only that instead of the main course ?
The main course Vietnamese Fried Rice was good but not great. It had tomatoes and was a little tangy in taste. The gravy with it Braised Mushroom was indeed good. There was some good amount of shitake mushroom in it too and both of us gorged on it! We were too full to try on any desserts. Hence, skipped it!!!
The quantity was good, the food was tasty, impressive, not to heavy on the stomach, subtle and nice ambience with good interiors, extremely good service (I must give a special mention about the waiters here! They were courteous and very helpful) and more importantly, the food is inexpensive!!
All in all, its a very nice place and I loved every aspect here. If not for the distance from where I live, this place would surely been one of the most preferred places to visit often.
A meal for 2 would be around 700 bucks and this is surely a VFM place. Those who are in north Bangalore must surely go for it!!
Had heard about this place from a friend. But since it was a lil far from our place i.e. BEL Rd, we had decided to visit this place when we were in that side of town...
To our astonishment, the food was amazing! Have gone there twice already. Once with my husband and the other time with my mum and hubby. Both the times we loved the food and the ambiance. Must add...excellent customer service as well...which added huge brownie points!
An unassuming place! Two thumbs up!
Chicken Lolli Pop
Well you can never forget to have appetizers before you get to the main menu.....This time when i had been to Hunan for dinner the appetizer i choose was Chiken lolli pop......... Its sound crazy but the taste was fabulous..... It tasted a lot different, I never had anything like that before.... I would suggest you to have it when you visit Hunan
Roast Pork in a Sauce of your Choice
Have you ever had Roasted pork any where else?? I eat pork but never used to like it much, but for the first time the Roasted pork tastes so good at Hunan, all taste buds were very pleased after savoring the dish at Hunan. And with the Roasted pork i also had a choice to select any sauce, in this case i choose Hot Bean sauce and it had the best taste as it possible can have.. The next time i go, I would surly not miss eating Pork in Hunan...I would prefer to go to Hunan than visiting other Chinese restaurants..
Great Sit Down Lunch Buffet
For the first time I saw some thing creative at this restaurant, My Client has asked me to meet him at Hunan for lunch. we came down to the restaurant at about 1.30 pm and he ordered 2 lunch buffet and I was wondering, sitting at the table if we had to move in and out for food since its a buffet, then I realized that it was a sit down lunch buffet by looking at the tent card on the table. I just told the manager that I wanted vegetarian lunch and he immediately took care of it . I Never had thought that hunan is such a professional restaurant in town cos I didn't move around for food & food was served at the table and there where so many varieties served I was really happy at the end of it cos i had choices according to my taste. Its the best place for official Lunch meet.
Birthday Party !!!!!!!!
My friend Sumanth's birthday party was celebrated at hunan, It was a surprise party planned by 40 friends since its the last year to graduate. It was all planned properly we all wanted to surprise this guy, so we made the birthday boy to drop in to the restaurant with a bit of a prank that's a long story to describe. However, Hunan's manager and the staff were very helpful they were all so proactive in serving us and making necessary arrangements for us. As he enters the main door we all were waiting for him and we all started singing for him and he enjoyed it. The food was very tasty and every one of us enjoyed. Though there were many customers at hunan the manager took care of all our orders and we never felt that we were left behind. Great Customer Service we feel that Hunan is a great place for Celebration !!!!!
Finger Licking Chinese Food.....
After a long tiring day at work while returning home me and my fiancee stopped by Hunan to have a quick grub. But as we entered the restaurant we were appealed by the worm welcome and the attention paid by the staff they took interest in suggesting and understanding our taste to add to it the soothing ambiance reduced our stress to half, it was not too long before we got over the stress the day had put us through honestly a wonderful restaurant one must visit as the food was served understanding our hungry stomachs and our taste buds were treated the best and the chicken was juicy and very tasty ( Finger Licking ) ......... Hunan Thank You So Much You made our day ....
Had Great Lunch at hunan with my friends today... i would kiss the chef cos the food tasted as if my mom had cooked . I am a foody person very specific about the taste. I had ordered for Crispy Honey Peking Duck and the taste Peked me off .. This place is the best place for food in bangalore........
Great Place for Chinese food!!
Six of us from our family went to Hunan for my dad's birthday. The food was great. right from the soup to the main course(Thai curry, Veg noodles, Veg Rice, manchurian balls) was good.
Since this was Sunday night, the place was fully occupied and service took some more time than usual. But the Manager was kind enough to come over to us and apologise, saying that they had not anticipated a big crowd and this reflected on their service that day. It was so sweet of him.
They also helped to cut the birthday cake and play Happy Birthday in the streamed music.
The ambiance is awesome and the manager goes out of his way to ensure guests feel comfortable. And oh yes, the icing on the cake was the Bill. It came up to around 200 Rs. per person. Its totally worth it. I'm sure in Mainland China or the other well known restaurants it would have cost at least 2.5 times more.
All in all, a great experience ,awesome veggie chinese food and reasonably priced Highly recommended!!!
A great place
If you are not familiar with the plce, keep a watch out for the board near the traffic signal. This is a nice cosy place for food.
The ambience is good and the food awesome. The variety offered is great. The staff is helpful and the manager Subbu is helpful with the suggesstions.
The addition of sizzlers in the menu of which we tried the Sizzling tofu is great. The Pork preparation, we had slice pork with mushroom in oyster sauce was well prepared and we would like to try the other pork dishes. The serving quantity is decent and food not so expensive.
Above all a place which can be revisted....
the entrance to this restaurant is a bit unconventional..maybe since it is located in a building complex..anyway as we entered the restaurant we found the interiors quite chic and there were enclosed spaces with lace-like partitions et al for some cosy dinner with ur girlfriend i guess.. ;-)
we ordered the usual sweet corn soup since it's like a litmus test for all the rest of the soups, so if the sweet corn z good rest all must be palatable but unfortunately our sweet corn soup seemed like a corn flour porridge..!! so it was not at all upto the standard..then comes the starter which was chicken wings in barbecue sauce which were delightful, so after having the soup it felt like heaven in a mouthful..then for the MC we ordered chicken hakka noodles which was the usual but good..and chicken n shiitake mushroom fried rice which was the best chinese fried rice i've eaten in a long time..very authentic..and with tht was tsinghai chicken gravy which too was nothing unusual..we were scouring the menu for the very famous prawn rolls which i read in the previous reviews but could'nt find it..
so all in all its a good place for some nice oriental food..will definitely visit again for the fried rice..
food - 3.5/5
ambience - 3.5/5
service - 3/5
The Best Pork Spare Ribs in Town
Hunan always has a special place in my heart- for their amazing food and service.
The Owner never fails to make you comfortable and welcome.
After a gap of 2 months I once again managed to get to Hunan after reading its review in TOI.
I immediately went on to order China Town Pork Spare Ribs and Panag Grilled fish.
The 1st bite of the Pork meat elicited a loud "Yummmmm" from my 3 year old son .. and that was compliments enough for this wonderful dish..
Right consistency, right mix of meat and fat and done so well that the meat was coming off the ribs. I couldnt but help ordering another plate.
The Panang grilled fish was good too, but the I guess the Pork spare ribs won the day !!
Keep it up and thanks for the wonderful food.
The Best Chinese Restaurant in North Bangalore
The restaurant is pretty close to my house and I have never missed a chance to satisfy my chinese food craving at Hunan. The owner Mr. Pema Takchung ( Hope I got the spelling right) is a gem of a person, who personally greets his guests and make them comfortable from the word go ... His genuine and warm smile is enough to make you assured of a good experience to look forward to..
My personal favourite is the Chilly Pork roast and the Singapore Prawn rolls. Both the dishes are very unique and tasty. The pork is just right with the right amount of fat and meat and its goes very well with Beer !! The singapore prawn rolls are a must try and in fact I have already decided to pester Mr. Pema to part away with the recipe during my next visit.
The main courses are very different and have unique flavors.
I definitely would recommend this to everyone living in North Bangalore. Please don't miss it.

Best Chinese Food
We are now regular to this place and have something new to taste everytime . We go by the Manager Rajesh Reddy's suggestion and we have enjoyed most of the dishes that we have tasted here. Its value for money and one of the best places to dine around in that area.
Regd: Entrance which most of the reviewers have referred to :) I agree that you may not really know that there is such a good place in 1st floor but now there are many good places with comfortable lounges but we all know the quality in some of those places and the paisa that we end up burning. Considering all this, I highly recommend Hunan
Let's see..Food here is excellent, place looks very good too.But they should definitely change their entrance.I took my parents here and they were really apprehensive about entering. If your going on a saturday be prepared to wait, service was rather slow. But they made up for it with the yummy food. Was inexpensive too. This sounds funny but I LOVED their chocloate icecream. You can skip the fruit wantons though. All in all the place has good ambience and equally good food
Good Chinese & Thai food
First of all, when we entered this building, we were a little unsure about going to this restaurant, but once we reached the place we were relieved. It was a pretty good ambiance with nice white interiors. We ordered Baby corn Mushroom pepper dry, Dragon Chopsuey & Thai Green Chicken curry with white rice. The food was very tasty. I really enjoyed every bit of it. Its also not expensive.(Around Rs.400 for these 3 dishes). Its great to have such a restaurant in a nearby locality.
Bad take away experience
Given all the reviews, on thing this place lacks for sure is consistency. So we gave the take-away a try and though the delivery was on time, we had asked for the dish to be non-spicy, but what they delivered was way above spice limits endurable for adults (leave alone children) So we call up, and they send a replacement, which was no different from what they have sent before!!! We gave up after that... I guess this place comes with a try at your own risk tag, especially with take-aways...
Seriously Amazing Chinese Food
I had heard a lot about this place from quite a few friends of mine and finally we decided to give it a shot. We landed up there on Friday evening and as we entered the property we did not know what to expect but trusting our friends advice we gathered the courage and went ahead. The enterance was just ok and we had the idea that it would be another run of the mill Chinese restaurant. As we went up the stairs we were in for a shock to see such a restaurant in our area. The entire restaurant was addorned with Candles and we forgot the enitre enterance bit. The interiors are very contemporary with a lovely warm design. Surprisingly we were greeted at the door by the owner himself who escorted us to a table by the window. We were in awe with the ambience of the place.
After being seated down we were presented with an exhaustive menu. We decided to play safe and we decided to order the regular Vegetable Sweet Corn soup. We were quite surprised and amazed that the soup was of just of the right consistency and tasted amazing. As per the recomendation of the server we tried the Crackling Spinach with corn it was served in a basket of some kind and was truly amazing (probably if it was spiced up a bit it would be even better) But nevertherless it was finger licking good. I knew I wanted more but had to move on to the main course where we decided to stay simple and have a Vegetable fried rice and a Tofu, Babycorn, Spinach in Hunan Gravy. I have had fried rice in a lot of places but this rice was truly something different and really hats off to the chef. We loved it and though we wanted to try some of the desserts we were stuffed and we decided that the next time we would save some more room to push that down. I personally felt that such a lovely place like that seriously needed to look in to getting the bar license sooner and work on the enterance with probably some more potted plants. Other than that it was a wonderful experience.
Cheeky first time experience
SO on a kool saturday afternoon, you usually decide to give a break to ur kitchen and yourself and order food from a restraunt you have not heard of before. SO here guys you are actually taking a chance as well as giving a new place like Hunan a chance to proove if there are good or not.
we had the most appalling experience any customer could hav ever had. We had ordered food and as usual done the formalities of giving the pura pura - ie full full adress to the management who happened to be the owner himself who was taking the order.
wE HAD THE MOST stupid and funny plus horrifying experience ever. No restaurant has ever behaved so badly in History..
The delivery of food from bel road to a place less than 2 km far took them easily 1 and a 1/2 hour, thanks to the faulty address noting and lack of clear LISTENING to ppl. After this followed several calls between them and us, We saying-'where is the food, they- saying- on the way sir..' after several such calls when the delivery guy just couldnt place the house, we started to loose cool.. in an exchange of dialougue the resturants management acually had the cheek to cancel our order and ask his delivery man not to give us the food.
Funnily, the delivery boy came at our door step gave us the food attended a exuse me sir' urgent phone call and told us, pls give me the food back, my boss has told me not to deliver.
Mind you this place is a new pla ce and the man is throwing lousy attitude at his customer. Instead of accepting his goof up in writing down the address which the delivery boy showed us, he went out and showed us that restuant management doesnt care, as there are too many customers.
Its totally uncalled for and i have never seen such behaviour by business people. people in business have to have a knac atleast basic courtesy of behaving in a just way.
HANDS DOWN FOR HUNAN FOR THE MOST CHEEKIEST OF MY EATING OUT EXPERIENCES..
Taste of Hunan in Bangalore
Finding this place is quite a difficult task as it is on the first floor above the Reliance Fresh outlet and the entrance to it is not clearly marked out.
As we made it up there, quite expectedly, we found the place empty. The smell of paint still adorned the well designed interiors but despite this initial hiccup, the ambiance and the service made dining at Hunan quite a warm experience.
The place had just opened two days ago and thus the word had not yet spread about the place, so not knowing what to expect, we had gone there merely to check out the place. But it was inviting enough for us to try a few starters and then move into the main course and finish with complimentary dessert.
We tried the crackling spinach and Mushroom Manchurian which was slightly on the spicier side (not the usual Bangalore spice levels) but very tasty. The main course of noodles and veggies in oyster sauce was also nice, but the paneer pieces were a little sour. Also they did not have the credit card machine in place yet so we had to pay cash (which worked out a little less than 500 for a meal for two.) I would attribute some of these issues we found to teething trouble which should hopefully get fixed soon. And I'll be going back pretty soon to check on that...
