I decided to visit this place along with my friend who told me of this. So on my way back from work one evening I made a pit-stop. I have been to the Chung Wah on the first floor of this building a couple of times.
The ambiance of this place is nice, open and airy. This building is on a corner plot, so you have two sets of seats along the compound. A couple of rain trees outside provide a lot of shade and your regular Java City umbrella for each cluster of chairs. Ideal for a chat, quick bit, smoke... I am not sure of their policy on smoking but there were quite a few who were.
My friend and I ordered a Cappuccino each and I was fairly hungry so thought I would order some snack. I have ordered the ever popular paneer sandwich too very often and was also not in a mood for non-veg. I ordered some tomato n cheese sandwich, only to be warned by my friend of this sounding very tasteless, I hoped otherwise :) but to my disappointment it was just some plain bread (more like milk bread yuck!) with some cheese and tomato thrown in. Worst of all microwaved!! the bread was moist! Actually a thin outer layer of the bread stuck to my hand. It could have been better, grilled, some herbs added etc.
The coffee was so so... watery, no froth. Overall did not enjoy the food and beverage. I would go back only for the location and the nice outdoorsy seating.
Finally, in South Bangalore too!!
I knew there was a new Java City coming in Jayangar. Every time, I passed this road I always got a glimpse on the status of their completion. Recently, when I was again passing by, I noticed they were functioning!! Well, this was sufficient info for me and there I was the same evening with 2 other friends of mine to try out the spanking new Java City in the south part of Bangalore!
Its in the same place as that of outdoor section of Kamat Ahar and is below Chung Wah Opus. I guess many are still not aware of this place and the day we went, it was just the 3 of us. They are still making up the place, placing more tables, trying to put up some paintings and make this place look like the typical Java City we have in other parts of Bangalore
As we sat, the waiter quickly handed over the menu card to us and a pamphlet placed on our table. I?d almost decided on what to eat after going thru the menu and that?s when I notice the pamphlet. It said, buy 1 Pizza and get 1 Pizza free. My friends and me almost jumped and said one pizza with the chicken toppings and the other one could be veg pizza. To drink, I ordered Berry Berry Berry. It was combination drink of 3 berries and I opted for blue berry, black berry and raspberry.
This was under the American Soda Category and was tranquilizing. We dint have to wait too long for the pizzas as they arrived in 10-15mins and we wasted no time in digging into it. The pizza with the chicken topping was delectable and my friends loved it so much they went next day again to eat the same stuff!
The thin crust veg pizza was the regular and tasted good. While I was checking the menu card, Mushroom Quiche had caught my attention and I?d decided to taste it. Though our stomachs were full after the pizzas, I went ahead for this. Wow! Wow! This one was truly delicious with the cheese flowing on top and the mushrooms stuffed inside. This one proved to be much better than the Pizzas.
The bill for the 3 of was around 350 bucks.
The story doesn?t end here. I came here 2 days later with another friend. This time, I wanted to have something light. Hence, ordered for a veg lasagna and my friend just had an Irish Coffee. Both were surprisingly good and my friend who?s generally not a foodie and had never tried lasgna, loved it too.
Well, this place gonna be a regular for me! South Bangalore lacked something like this and there?s no more cribbing for a place like this :)
