Horrible, Pathetic Behavior by the Lady Serving at The Restaurant
I ordered Mushroom Manchurian dry and noodles. But the lady served Mushroom Fried Rice instead of Manchurian. When I told her that she has served the wrong dish she started shouting at me in front of other customers. When I asked her to bring Manchurian she said that its late now and the dish cannot be served. During the billing time also she was shouting at me.
I would never visit this place again.
The food here is really great, if you like Chinese / Thai Oriental cuisine and mock meats (soya chicken, soya fish). The tofu dishes here are one of the best in Bangalore. The pricing is also reasonable if you're dining out, especially a group of people. The food is pretty tasty and feels healthy. Inside, you will notice a lot of Buddhist imagery, statues, and artwork.
Unfortunately, the people have ruined the experience totally. The old lady who manages the place is so irritable and mean-spirited that I refuse to go back to such a place. She does not know how to speak to people, made me give another 10 Rupee note b/c there was a slight tear on one of the notes (the bill was for more than 300 Rs.), and I've actually walked out of the restaurant twice b/c she asked me 'why I came so early? food no ready yet' at 12:15 PM and because she repeated forced me to order by saying 'What you want? What you want?'. The other people there seem quiet and decent enough, but the overall vibe I get is an unpleasant one. If you are in a group of people, you can probably handle the staff there, but if you're just person, like I was, you might feel uncomfortable and bullied.
Good food managed by rude owner
I've been a regular diner at this place and have always found the food to be good, suits my taste. But the service is very slow & lazy. Incompetently and rudely managed by the old owner lady.
If you are able to look over these issues, then you are in for a treat of veg Chinese & Thai delight.
P.S: I've stopped visiting this place since I didn't feel its worth it, given their don't care attitude.
A different experience!
We've passed this little inconspicuous looking place a couple of times while driving through HSR layout, we never really knew what lay ahead behind those traditionally chinese doors. My husband and I went in there for lunch one sunday afternoon, with an aunty who had already been there and , this aunty told us that we would have to have aaaa lot of patience after ordering our meal. The food takes about 45- 50 minutes to arrive so make sure you order everything at the same time. A 3 member chinese family runs this place so also be prepared for a rude, non comprehend-able chinese lady taking your order :). But its all worth it when the food arrives.. Its lip smacking yummy!!!! Definitely worth a wait!
Good value for your money
I've been to Lou Han on many occasions along with my family members.
This is very good veg Chinese Thai eatery.
The cost is very nominal, the service is sluggish though...
Try their Golden Sweet Corn, Thai Noodle soup & Thai Green Curry Rice...which suits my palate well :)
Looking forward to my next visit!
I definitely recommend it.
THE WORST CUSTOMER TREATMENT...
I'm writing this review immediately after returning from this restaurant. I have visited this place before as well and I usually receive very poor service from the waiters there. But tonight it was at its worst. I along with my girlfriend were abused out of the restaurant with vulgar Nepali slangs. It all started with the waiter coming and throwing the menu card on our table. I told him to get wanton soup as quick as possible and he rudely ignored me and said it can't be done as the soup will take time. The tone of his voice and the manner in which he spoke was very ill mannered. on seeing this my girl friend and I decided to complain to the manager at the desk. But another waiter was attending the counter. On complaining about the ill mannered behaviour he started abusing us in Nepali slang even to my gf....and was shouting at us to get out of the restaurant.
This is the worst experience any customer can have in a restaurant. the most surprising factor was that there was no sign of the owner or manager of the restaurant and all the managerial work was being taken care of by these rude and uneducated waiters. Hence, I warn all people who are thinking of trying out this veg chinese restaurant to beware of such rude behaviour. My sincere advice to anybody reading this is BEWARE OF THE RUDE WAITERS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY CAN START ABUSING YOU OR EVEN HIT YOU.
Reasonable Pricing and good Food
I visited this place 3 days back. Food is ok, but some strange smell sometimes comes from some of there food(do not know ?). Fried stuff carrys too much oil in it. Service is ok. and ambience is ok. But pricing is very good. and being in quiet residential area, Parking is breeze and not much traffic.
Items on the menu are mind blowing. Good for families, and meeting casual friends. I certainly recommend over other nearby restaurants.
Authentic chinese veg food with good sauce
I have visited this place more than 10 times in last 1 year. Hence I am rating this place based on my observation during all my visits.
The assessment is done based on 5 parameters: 1. Taste, 2. Presentation, 3. Authenticity, 4. Service, 5. Cost, considering 2 point for each of the parameters.
As far as tastes are concerned, the food tastes awesome. The starters are truly mouthwatering and fresh. Crispy fire crackers, crispy gold bags, stuffed tofu, dumplings & wantons are absolute yes. However, spring rolls & tempura are a bit of a shame.
In the mains both Thai as well as Chinese savory dishes is as good as any restaurant. But, remember the choice of sauce plays a very important role. Make sure that the sauce you choose should complement your main dish.
so I give them 2 points on taste.
As far as the presentation goes, I really feel that they could have done much better. The food doesnt appeal much visually. Hence I give them 1 point on presentation.
When it comes to authenticity & ambience, this restaurant produces one of the most authentic Chinese dishes in Bangalore at least. I have tasted innumerable Chinese cuisines in various places & restaurants in India, but I must admit that only few have provided me with the authentic taste of Chinese cuisine. Most of the restaurants serve their local version of Chinese food with masalas and curry leaves sans sauce which drives me crazy. Hence, I give them 2 points on authenticity of food.
I understand that in the past and even in the recent past there have been several incidences where guests (including me) had to wait for their meal longer than expected. Hence, I give them zero on their service.
Cost is something that has always worked on luo hans favor. The food is not expensive at all and to get such a tasty & authentic Chinese food in Bangalore without burning a hole in your pocket is just amazing. Hence I give 2 points to them on cost parameter.
Overall it is 7 out 10 ..if you really want to try out veg chinese cuisine, you should go there atleast once.
why all the hype???
The food is average at best...The service though is pathetic. The only thing that makes you feel chinese is the decor with all the Feng Shui stuff. Its usually empty is my assumption. The waiter could not explain what a green curried fried rice was....The service was slow and the food way too oily. Its all veggie with mock meat. The city is full of fancy sounding and over priced chinese restaurants ...this aint fancy neither is over priced but the food just did not do it for me....will give it a try to see if anythings diff the second time around
Good Veg Chinese Food
The place is a good choice for veg chinese food. Though when we went for dinner the place was empty. Apart from us there was only 1 more couple in the whole place!
Food was ok. We ordered Momo's for starter and didnt like it. Though main course was good in the end it was a satisfying experience. Good to know there is a place in HSR layout for veggies who like Chinese food.
Just Great Food
We live in HSR and still never tried this place. The place do look 'shady' from outside. But after reading good reviews in Burrp, and we happened to be on the restaurant street, did we decide to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Golden fried bags were amongst the best I had. Ordered a curry which had all Chinese greensbroccoli etc and it was so simple and nice. After walking out, we never felt that we had a heavy meal, we were still light and yet full. It's a very very simple and casual place, so gng fwded I might just pick food from there.
The ratings below are justified...
I was looking for a new chinese restaurant in town after my taste buds were used to the "other" famous chinese cuisine around Bangalore and luckily for me I bumped into Lou Han on burrp. Like always, I prefer to write the Pros' and cons of the restaurant to a detailed review and here I go...
Pros - An inexhaustible choice for starters!
Tastes authentic (BTW, It is run by a Chinese family)
Inexpensive (2 starters and 2 main course dish - Rs. 400)
Peaceful location and decent ambiance.
Cons - Slight difficulty communicating with the staff.
Starters were a bit oily.
I will say, go ahead and try this place out. I'm positive you will relish it.
A Place to be...
If someone has to define how the customers need to be treated this is a place to be.
Lou Han is an underrated restaurant in HSR Layout which is run by a humble Chinese family who value their customers.
And to most of burrpers surprise its a pure vegetarian Chinese restaurant. Now that means not even egg is used for any of the preparations. Because "Lou Han" means "Monk" and thats why I believe they serve only vegetarian food.
I have been visiting and ordering food from this restaurant since its inception and have tried most of the delicacies from their exhaustive menu. And to be honest the food has never disappointed me nor the guests I bring along. A sure delight for any foodie be it the guest or the host. The waiters are responsive and attend you throughout your meal coarse.
Another interesting fact of this restaurant is that the owner of this place is the Master Chef. Be it a miniscule or a hefty order, he "himself prepares the food" and later he comes to your table and takes the feedback.
This is the reason that at peak times hours your orders might take time. But trust me, the food is worth waiting for.
Last but not the least, the prices are quite modest and quantity of food is reasonable.
A meal for two would cost around 300-350. (Includes soup, starter and main course.)
So my rating would be:
Ambiance : 9/10
Overall Experience: 9.5/10
Value for money chinese (veg) restaurant
I have been to many Chinese restaurants, but this one stands top in the queue. You will hardly find a Chinese / Thai restaurant with such a good options for vegetarians and this one is completely vegetarian.
Pretty decent ambiance giving a Chinese feel. The crockery, the paintings, the lightning around is decent.
Serving time / speed:
They are bit slow in serving, but considering the quality, quantity and price of food, it should not be taken as negative point. But yeah, there are chances of improvement as far as timings is concerned.
Quantity of food:
Pretty good enough
Quality of food:
Excellent quality. Readers should try their Pad Thai rice.
Considering the quality, quantity of food, they are prices quite decent.
Would recommended and like to revisit:
Definitely yes. In fact it's one of my favorite restaurant to visit again.
Excellant Chineese Food
Surprised to find such a variety of Vegetarian Chinese, Thai and Indonesian food. The quality and taste are excellent. The service is superb and prices are moderate. The Restaurant has a Chinese look and have very spacious dining hall. Added facility is that while taking the order we are explained the main ingredients and taste.
excellent chinese eatery
its a great chinese restaurant for veggies and non veggies can try it out for the vast variety it offers.food is fresh, served hot and excellent in taste.ambience is modest and it is decently priced.the only thing to take care is inform them in advance to use least possible oil.
I have never been to this restaurant. Usually order for home delivery and I have tried different items. I like their Honey sauce and noodles. Their veg fried rice is good as well. Sometimes find the food a bit oily (that is why no 5 stars :-) ) . Overall this is a wonder place to try different oriental fair without worrying about chicken coming in the way. For a vegetarian like me, I have bad experiences while ordering in other chinese restaurants. This being a veg only restaurant is a boon for vegetarians like me. Keep going Luo Han !! - Rajan
Excellent Meifun, value for money
A small vegetarian chinese eatery in HSR, opposite to Fooddays on 27th Main. Huge variety, excellent meifun preparation (glass/vermicilli noodles).
Prices: Modest, Meal for 2 would cost about 200-300.
Service: Homely and cordial
Reason to go back: Good service, excellent variety and preparation
