This is the Worst Place You Can Ever Find in Bangalore
Guys I am sure the food is not fresh. Look at the quality, quantity, nothing is worth what we pay. I believe this is one of worst places. I have had my dinner, don't be fooled guys, try for something better.....This is the worst you can ever get.
Mast Kalandar Fan that I am, I try out almost all joints of theirs, to find out what's different about them in different hangouts!
The difference is usually the parking space, the servers, the logistics! But the food remains just the same, the best quality and the quantity, and the price of course the same.
I ventured into this place, by taking my bro, who had never been to this place or any other of their joints, but has been in Bangalore for more than 5 years. So making fun of him as to what he has been missing from so long in his bachelor life, we entered the busy jostling place, with all foodies, just focused on their food, because that's what I believe this place is made for.
We both order the same "The Great Indian Maha Combo", which almost has all you want. Foodies that we were, we found a nice corner for ourselves, because it was going to be sharing and eating. So we start talking about our daily lives, and we are cut off by the yummy smell of our delicious platter of food. So a little chat in between, with lots of food in between we were just enjoying everything on the platter. I didn't have to ask my bro how was the food, because seeing him, I got all the feedback I wanted. The Chaas and Gulab Jamun as usual are its best, which I don't think you have any one not liking it.
Everything was just made in the best authentic manner I could say, with perfection of taste.
The place has good ambiance, but is always crowded with folks that you might have to wait for your corner, but you could order your dishes so you get your place and the food at the right time.
The prices are economically set for the poor bachelors and spinsters in town, that they can have the yummiest food, at the best prices.
Mast Kalandar - You Won't Miss Home Food Now!
The Sagars and Darshini's of Bangalore were always my first choice when it came to cheap and decent food. But everything comes with a price, while I thought I was saving money by eating here everyday. What I understood quite later was the fact that the food served at these places gave me frequent stomach upsets. A friend of mine suggested MAST KALANDAR's home-like food. I gave it a try and I must admit it was quite a good experience. The food was light, clean and fresh and didn't give me any trouble. The food was almost close to what my mom cooks at home.
A Changed Mast Kalandar !!
As I walk into MK stores I notice a change. Their logo has been changed and the ambiance of the place has been changed. It's the new Mast Kalandar.
MK Gulab Jamoons !! ... Yes, they are the best in town (For those of you who do not know) I suggest a trip to the MK store, if you have not tried it. You will not regret it.
As you break into your Gulab Jamun, and take that first bite, the explosion of flavors in your mouth is mind blowing.
Every year MK celebrates Navrathra with one thali, but this year they have introduced two thali's. A fasting thali and a feasting thali. The size of the thali is huge and good quantity.
A must try is the kiddy combo. And no it does not mean it is only for kids. Maybe if you are tight on your budget, you can have the kiddy combo. The cheesy paratha that they offer, is not short of the cheese. It just keeps oozing out. Yumm !!!
After my meal, I like trying out MK's Churan. And I sometimes purchase a bottle of their Jodhpuri pickle too.
I love Mast Kalandar. !!
Total pathetic experience
Wrote to their feedback email as well and no response.
We have been a customer since last 6 years to different MK outlets in BTM, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Marthahalli, Whitefield, Banashankari and Koramangala. Have enjoyed both dine-in as well as deliveries to home. (For long 5 years, MK was kind of opposite to our apartment in Ranka colony road)
However, today, it has been a pathetic experience, which prompted me to write this "midnight" email.
The order was placed in BTM MK at 10.10 PM (the bill says 10.25) and it was delivered at 11.40 pm
I have put the details as under and looking forward to hearing action and 70% refund of the payment made in anticipation of a quality delivery.
The value realized was maximum up to 30% of the payment made.
For 2 Veggie
1 plain besan curry, 1 gravy with 3 aloos each 1 cubic cm
Double than required salt was put
Phulkas got cold by the time delivered
It was diluted curd with 2 traces of 2-3 grams carrot
Not fully cooked and were cold by the time delivered
Double than required salt
It was diluted curd with 2 traces of 2-3 grams carrot
Rude Staff, Pathetic Service
We ate at the place twice, once for dine-in and next time as home delivery. Both the experiences were awful in terms of the service and hospitality of the staff. You have to wait and literally wave to have the waiters attention. Some incompetent people have been placed at the phone desk to receive the home delivery orders. When asked to split the bill (to know the taxes levied on the food), he was unable to do so. Upon being asked again, he started in a rude tone "Tax to doge ki nai??!!" and cut the phone. After an hour we finally received our food, only to find out that the quality was way below the average.
This goes specially for the Koramangala NGV Outlet.
There is a serious NO NO from me to this place..!!
Good place for north Indian food
We wanted to eat north Indian food and we headed to Mast Kalandar @ koramangala, we ordered chole bhature, veg pulao daalmakhani and gulab jamoon, chole was not good little salty and over cooked, liked the rice and daalmakhani, the best part of our food was dessert th gulab jamun they were so soft and yemmy we end up ordering once more plate.
Sad degradation in quality of food and service
I finally decided that Mast Kalandar doesnt deserve my business anymore. I have been reluctant in making that decision as I loved their homely & healthy food since they started their first restaurant opposite Ranka Colony, Bilekahalli, and have admired their growth. While we lived on Bannerghatta Rd, we frequented them often even during those several months the Ranka Colony road was dug-up. Food quality has been deteriorating in last couple of years. But now, with too much salt, too much spices, too much oil, it is just slightly better version of north Indian food that you get at various Shanti Sangar type places. I have been to several of their restaurants over the years: Ranka Colony, Arakere, Indiranagar, Koramangala, Airport Road, Domlur, Sadashivnagar, and in recent months after moving to ORR, to Sarjapur Road and Bellendur. I must have ordered a home delivery a dozen times from their Bellendur shop, and more than half time the order has been messed up (chutney missing from Kabab order, number of paratha being less than what ordered and billed, roti having ghee despite specifying to not do so, ordered family pack but instead platter versions are sent, completely raw unroasted Paneer tikka, Kadhi family pack with just liquid and not a single pakaudi). Once order was delivered almost two hours later! Every time I got a standard reply: sorry sir (for Kadhi they said, it had got over so they could just make the liquid; hello! you could call back and say not available, please order something else). Today when I called up Bellendur at 12:15pm, they said that they have just started setting up the Tandoor so it will take a long time to deliver the paratha platters (yes, just plain simple paratha platters) that I was ordering. So anyone walking into the place at 12:15 today for lunch, not sure how long would have had to wait. Quality of service is nowhere compare to the days when they put up a notice on their Ranka Colony shop when the road was dug-up reading something like: we appreciate you taking pain to reach here, free dessert with every platter. Having admired their founders, as sad as it might be to see this deterioration, I am no more willing to stand their current (lack of) quality of food and service.
GIve it a miss.
This place has gone through a significant decline in quality. Now you get ineffective (and at times, rude) service, wet utensils and disappointing food. They're cutting corners everywhere which makes their food pretty far from "homely" or "fresh" or even value for money. Things are even more disappointing on weekends. NOW, they're just taking people for a ride....

Value for money food
Nothing great in the food taste but the price at which they offer hosts of combos are simply fantastic. Try the Maha Combo for sure. Go to this place when you are out of option or want a normal lunch/dinner. Go to their any of the branches, its the same. Beware that you have to pay first.
HOME DELIVERY SERVICE PATHETIC
today we received our lunch parcel after 2.5 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!really disappointed....
Last time we order 3 HP Meals and received only 2 of them after 2 hrs !!!!!!..... i guess Mast kaladar Kormangala should
either improve or stop Home Delivery ....Pls do not take undue advantage of customers
Home Food at a great price
I am not a big fan of vegetarian food. But last Saturday, we decided to eat healthy and homely food. Mast Kalandar was an instant option near Bannerghatta Road. I ate the Halka Phulka Thali and my wife and mom ate Paratha combos. Its been after 5 years I am visiting Mast Kalandar, and I must agree the prices, quantity and quality of food has remained unchanged. Kudos to Gaurav and Team.
I think at the price, there is no complains on service or ambience. Especially the Phulkas, Raita and Pindi Chole was exceptional. I would recommend it to all single people for homely food at affordable prices.
mast mast food
I am new to bangalore and having been stayed across north india I was on the look out of real north indian food , but the one that I can eat on regular days without giving thought to upset my stomach , Mast kalandar proved to be place for life. cheerful ambience , colorful waiters and a very colorful menu.
I ate phulkas, dal tadka, paneer makhni and some lovely kababs, the place is worth visiting I m definitely going back for a quick grab again.
Home Delivery Mast Kalandar Sarjapur
I made a home delivery order at 7:20 pm today from Mast Kalandar Sarjapur Road barnch and its been over 1 and 1/2 hours , the order has not yet arrived as I am typing this mail.
The restaurant folk promised me to deliver it within 40 minutes. I have already called twice and third time I spoke with the branch manager Mr Nand Kumar.
I must say this person has no courtesy towards his customers and does not know how to conduct himself in such a situation.
Instead of accepting his mistake and rendering apology he was trying to shrug away from the responsibility.
I am afraid people like this are badly hurting the image of Mast Kalandar. I am going to think thrice before making an order for home delivery next time.
The food at this place may be OK, but their service is awful. Don't ever make the mistake of
making a home delivery from Mast Kalandar. On two occasions, I've never even received my delivery and the owner wouldn't pick up my calls. Even if the delivery arrives it takes atleast 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours. I'm never going to order from this crappy place again.
Mast Kalandar needs to understand how to provide proper service. Their food may be fine, but just because of their service I'm never going back again.

if u are looking for a decent bite for a very tight budget and vegetarian food, all combine u get this place. The menu has a decent amount to offer with combos and different rice and parathas which is all the same everywhere but what you will really dig is the Dal Makhani. surprisingly this little joint makes some incredible dal makhani. get some of that and some naans, and you are set for a good meal

hey pranav!!! thanks for the feedback , We at all the Mast Kalandar outlets try to offer food that tastes exactly as your "ghar ka khana", still we would like to know if there is anything that you would like us to improve on and so that we can understand the reason behind your average rating to us :(:( , will be glad to know more about ur experience!!!

Another point for the quick reply. I was actually satisfied with the food I got for the price I paid, especially with the Dal makhani as I mentioned in my earlier review. Haven't had much to eat from your menu but the Pulao that I got in the combo was really really plain. You say it is ghar ka khaana, agreed but thoda accha hone ka scope zaroor hai.
Plus the salad that comes is really funny, it'll be better if it weren't there at all. I recommend cancelling the salad from menu and rather serve fresh cut slices of "kheera-tamatar- on every t

I have never been to the Mast Kalandar outlet but have ordered a couple of times. The service is quite bad I have to say. Being about half a mile from the outlet the delivery takes an hour. With all the packing, missing on the regulatory spoon is quite a put off. The packing does not keep the food warm either and ends up costing you a reasonable amount. The food is OK though, but not worth the 200 odd you end up paying per head for whatever you order.
The staff taking the order sounds retarded and it takes years to place a simple order. Overall, my last order-in option.
No more mast in mast kalandar
we had a lunch in mast kalandar. concept was good but food was horrible. we had HP3 meal. Expect chilly pickle everything was average. Paneer makhni was sour and there no salt in Dal tadka. cacher was talk always ruffly. rest staff was good

We're really very concerned about your feedback, HP3 is one of our most liked and popular combo and we would certainly look into the issue that you have mentioned.
Meanwhile if you could send us your contact details email@example.com we will call you and send you the sample of our Dal tadka and Paneer makhani.
About the Cashier's response we will certainly warn him on the same.

Response to Mast Kalandar's own rating on Dec 14
Hey MK team,
If you have to respond to a review, please do so by in a reply mode and not putting up another review with a 4 star rating(good to know that you yourself don't think to be worthy of 5 stars). I am putting up a single star just to balance out your rating. I know that I can just flag you as being a spam, but I won't as I want more people to see how stupid you guys are. And yea we all eat happy but not at MK.
For rest of the Burrpers, if you do not see a self review by MK team below this one, please feel free to flag this one too.
But in any case neither me nor any of my friend are going back to MK any time. Place sucks and the management is rude. Wish I could give a negative.

Tasteless & Horrible Food
We took our guests with a hope to relish Panjabi Food, Makki ki roti & Sarson ka Saag but neither roti appeared to be Makki's nor Saag tasted to be of Sarson's, both tasted horrible. We asked for Gud but they didn't have that, although in advertisement it was mentioned GUD-MAKHAN, so it was a horrible experience, without light, too much time taking service, thought not to visit again in future.
Mast Kalandar - GONE to the DOGS - BTM 2nd Stage
I fully agree with the review just posted abt Mast Kalandar Koramangala. All this while I thought only BTM branch was bad, but now itseems like most branches are bad.
The Home Delivery is pathetic and so is the standard of the paratas.
Please improve your service or just shut a few and concentrate on a few.
And for God's sake please stop putting Mast Kalandar sick dinners as EVENTS ON BURRP, YOU ARE FOOLING the new customers who have just moved to blr.
What a downward journey
I have been visiting Mast Kalandar since the time they opened their first outlet in Bangalore. Their food used to be decent and I especially used to like their dal makhani. Their service/home delivery also used to be decent. But in the last one year I have faced several problems with their home delivery and at times even with the service at their outlets. For home delivery I normally order from their koramangala branch. In last 6 months I had at least 6-7 issues i.e. in almost all the deliveries. Sometime they send you food after 3 hours, sometimes dal tadka instead of dal makhani and some time the whole order is wrong. I'll mention 2 specific instances.
1)on 3rd November, I ordered a Paratha combo to be delivered at my place. I ordered from MK just because I wanted to have dal makhani that day. My order was delivered to me at 11:15pm with dal tadka. I had to all the way to MK outlet to return it. The guys made a lame excuse that dal makhani was over. After a long fight I managed to get the mail ID of Gaurav Jain, the CEO of MK and dropped him an email, and I got a typical response that he'll take action. And another mail from a lady called Vrinda saying that they would like to see me back at MK.
2)Even though I had decided not to visit again, I had to once again on 23rd November because a friend of mine insisted and we had no other option in the area after being to all places last week. So we went for lunch at their Marahathalli outlet which is close to my workplace. After 25 mins of placing the order I was told that my order is not available as the cheese is stale. I called up Gaurav again, he did not even show the courtesy to speak to me after talking to his manager. I was left with no option but to change my order. After further 15 mins I got something so cold as if they had just taken it out from a refrigerator(of course this is exaggerated, but still true), but this time I didn't even bother to even tell this to manager.
I do not understand as to why these guys are opening up so many branches, if they cannot handle them. Its a shame.
Mr Gaurav Jain, there is no excuse for bad customer service. And this is not a failure of a delivery boy or a store manager. Its a collective failure. If you intend to replace some one, please start at the highest level.
foul language used by delivery boys
Last week, I ordered a meal on phone. 45 mins later, I got a call from Delivery boy asking for my apartment no. I told him in english and asked him to try to bring it quickly as I was feeling hungry. He thought I did not know Hindi and replied, "2 min me to L**D laenge". I was shocked by his statement and called back the original no I got from site. Manager said sorry but never came back as to what action he had taken to ensure this would not repeat.
Frankly speaking, these people are v foul-mouthed and I plan never to take my wife or kids to this place again.
November 15, 2010response from management at mastkalandar:
I am really sorry to read your comment. If you can share the details of the time / date of your order and your address at email@example.com, we will trace out the delivery boy and will warn him and if required go to the extent of firing him.
Please also share your contact number so that we can understand the incident a little more.
We are here to provide and enjoyable experience and foul language is certainly something that we will not tolerate at any cost.
Looking forward to your mail and
Pathetic home delivery service
The food at Mast Kalandar is and has always been great. The fact that they have Modinagar ki Shikanji beats every other restaurant down.
There is one huge issue though, home delivery service.
A year back, they used to deliver within 40 minutes. This time has now moved up to 60 minutes and this is the committed time. You might get your food after 90 minutes as I have experienced over the last 2 times.
They really need to get something going as the seating capacity of the dine-in cannot support many and the other sales option, home delivery, is not viable as the time for service is way too much.
Food is really good, Slow on weekends.
Food here is really good, you can go to this place without any worries about that.
Food being good and restaurant being popular, wears down on the dine in customers. The service is a tad slower on week ends. Its like me my friends placed the order at 2230 and the order arrived at about 2310. And if you are late to reach the place like us then you might find that some of the menu items are not available on weekend
I dont understand what the hype is all about. After reading all the reviews we went here on a tuesday evening to pack some food. First of all, they took forever to prepare and pack our food and we were the only people in the place. We come home to see burnt aloo parathas. The cheese and spring onion parathas were so rubbery !! neither the dal makhani nor the rajma was tasty! will not recommend!
August 21, 2010response from management at mastkalandar:
Thanks for your feedback. We are looking into the issue. Our parranthas are quite popular and both Masala Aloo and Cheesy Spring Onion are our best sellers.
If you can send in your number and address at firstname.lastname@example.org then we can talk to you and send you another sample of these parrantha combos to taste once again and may be we can change your opinion.
Thanks and regards,
CEO, Mast Kalandar
Customer service has reached a new low!!
I go to this place only because of its proximity to my house and their food is clean and tasty enough. Yet sometimes the food reminds me of plastic food thats served on a plane. But I simply loathe their customer service. They take at least half an hour to get the food to the table, and when it comes, it could even be the wrong order!!
When we ordered Patiala Chaas for 46 rupees, they bring it in a small glass thats meant to be served along with a combo and not the original large glass. If you're new, you may get fooled, and if you notice, you have to call them and ask them to serve the original large glass.
If you order a drink, a main course and a dessert, they will bring you the drink and main course. Good, as the dessert should come in the end after we finish the main course. They take our plates away and we wait. Nothing! They need to be called again and reminded about the dessert. Short term memory forces them to double check our receipt again. Who knows we could've been lying!!
Once, when we wanted to have mix-veg pulao, the cashier had suggested going for biryani with a twist in which we can opt for the pulao instead of biryani. Great idea! But try explaining it to the guys waiting to take your receipt! Most of the time they show no expression of understanding and sometimes they even lie they understood and make a total mess of it. We wait 30 minutes to find biryani on our tables. We got so tired at the end of it, we decided to eat the biryani and get the hell outta there!
The only way these guys can keep going is coz of that stupid promotion they have these days with that discount card where you can come 5 times in a month to get more discount each time ranging from 5-15%.
Yes I know they have a dearth of staff by looking at the sign board they left hanging outside, probably they arent paying them well enough. Who knows!
July 29, 2010response from management at mastkalandar:
We are really concerned to read your feedback and feel sorry about it. We want to speak to you to learn on this and take some steps. I guess there has been a training issue of some new staff.
Could you please send us your number to email@example.com
Thanks and regards,
Director, Mast Kalandar
Remains my first choice
I have tried out this place several times. It always remains my top preference and never lets me down.
The other day I went there with my friends. It was quite full but I got a place soon. My friends were very happy with the food and service and thanked me for getting them there.
We had a whole lot Delhi and North Indian food. Very authentic and close to the food that we miss all the time.
Whenever I want to dine out - I can walk into this place without thinking twice.
Also - I recommend it to all my friends for good the best North Indian food - true food - not the oily spicy overcooked curries.
Desserts are great too - Gulab Jamun and Malpua are the best in Bangalore.
Good food, slightly pricey
Food is good, esp the combos.
I think they can reduce the volume of music a bit and may go for ghazals! I tell u it would be superb ambience.
Price is also slightly on the up side.
I would also think they are right candidate for low calorie food bar.... less oil and salt , more salads, veges, etc.
Left me disappointed
When it came to eating out, I always considered Mast Kalandar a good option for economical vegetarian north indian fare. However my recent visits to their Koramangala branch were a bit of a let down. The food quality seems to have come down a bit as compared to the earlier experiences. Their Dal Makhani, parathas were not the same, and there was a marked drop in quality. To discount this as a one-off experience I decided to visit them again last month. However there was no improvement. I ordered a papdi chat for my son, and this turned out to be a major disappointment. Hope my feedback to the concerned staff makes a difference.
The Wow Meal
I would normally not give a meal this caption. However, I am forced to give this caption to avoid feeling guilty later of not doing justice of what I just ate.
These guys are good - real good - and particularly when you see the wallet factor.
I has a Halka Phulka Meal here together with a buttelmilk for around 100 bucks. I could not ask for more. the meal was great - wholesome, tasty and just right on the pocket. Buttermilk was awesome and I managed to finish the huge serving.
I would keep coming back for more of there. There are many more to try out in the menu.
The only scope to improve is to play English music, but I guess the Bollywood goes better with the Indian food.
I was told they have a loyalty card and I will enroll the next time I go there.
Its just another way to get some more WOW's in youe life.
Lots of wows to go.....
Quick, healthy and reliable
Helpfully situated in places which are quite heavily populated with offices, MK gives the perfect combination of the 5 things that define a workday lunch - good location, speed of service, the 'health factor' , the 'wallet factor' and consistency.
Mast Kalandar offers various combo North Indian meals which let you get your daily dose of veggies with 2 subjis that come with a healthy sized portion of rice or different bread options. The rajma, chole and bharta options I've had have all been decent. You can also add a jaljeera or a lassi to the mix for about Rs.50 more.
While I won't say that the food is so tasty that you'll waltz out in raptures; it is the good, basic 'ghar ka khaana' types that'll fill you up without clogging your arteries. And when you consider that these bigger than average portion sizes come at very reasonable prices between Rs.75 and Rs.100 per combo, your wallet will come out relatively damage free too.
I've been here atleast 5-6 times and I'm happy to report that the quality of the food and the speed of service have been consistent throughout.
So while this might not be the place to go to for a special meal with the family or your friends, it's definitely the place to catch a reasonably priced, healthy(ish) and quick meal.
Great Place for Regular Eat Outs
I knew I would miss this restaurant chain when I would leave Bangalore. And the reason is its uniquely tasty yet less-greasy and less-spicy food they have to offer.
One may complaint about having lesser variety then an ordinary restaurant, but you wont like to have those paneer butter masala or veg kolhapuri, though they have some sinfully tasting stuff too.
It has special list for the ultra health conscious like saag, maize/ragi roti etc., which adds to the confidence of the young Bangalore who must eat-out quite often :-)
What else to say about a place which has served me with consistanly good food for over 2 years now....
Its so economical for such good quality of food. At the same time, the people make you feel warm and welcome.
This is my regular hangout, whenever I am not in a mood for lavish 5 star food, this is a place to hit. For less than 100 rs a meal, a wholesome, healthy complete meal is assured.
The ambience brightens up the mood and the service makes me feel at home.
A real mast place!
Its is just not my type
It is self service. They have the smallest menu on planet earth and the combinations are strictly water tight as per menu so u have very little left to your imagination or even taste. It is generally full of bachlors who want to have food out daily out of no choice but for a true foodier like me, it is just not the place.
You place an order at the counter. Wait on your table till the never happy or smiling waiter serves you food which is decent in taste tooo....
i would recommend it once in a while when u want to really have fast food on the go....else it is a very normal place which pinches the pocket a little harder than what it is actually worth of.
New Mast Kalandar - Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa
Phew - I figured this Mast Kalandar in Koramangala I block - very close to where I work, opposite to Reliance Fresh on the 80 ft. road. Thank God I now have one each near my office and home.
This one is done up well. it boasts of a new decor, something which I like. This is colorful and music is nice.
Most importantly, the food is as great as ever. The Sinful Punjabi Paneer just melts in your mouth. It also has some really good additions but I stuck to what I was used to. Also tried the Mango Lassi AGAIN - no body does it better than these guys.
All I paid was around 100/- odd. This is good deal compared to all the other so called fine dining places with four times the prices.
They have also started deliveries - so I plan to have a office delivery done on the next Friday for my group. They pack neatly and we can eat in the conference room itself.
Trust me - this is worth a try...only prob is that it is on the first floor - but I really dont mind climbing for the great high that I get from this food :-))
I bet this chain is a boon for people like me....
Maane Tu Ya Maane Naa....
costly food + tax - no service
The food is decent, but not a real value for money. The menu is on the high end + taxes added to it, and there is no service. You have to order at a counter. The place is too small for the crowd that comes in. The washroom is tiny and UNISEX.
I am not sure of the delivery charges, but they have delivery, so sit comfortably at home and eat. (light on pocket if there are no delivery charged...)
The food is good - exactly similar to what you get in the the Bannerghatta Road restaurant. A lot smaller though than the spacious main branch :-(. But this place is like the McDonalds of Blore - with consistent quality and atmosphere. And clean loos as well. Had the healthy sprouts combo which came with dal makhani, raita and a salad and it was good.
'Designer' North Indian grub, anyone?
It's funny, the number of vegetarian joints I've been hitting since I moved to this city, but blame Mast Kalandar for being within 'burrping' distance from my office and a couple of good referrals that I got from colleagues...I've already been to the place twice in the last 10 days.
For those of you put off by the title of this review, well it IS exactly that. Decent dal-subji-roti-chawal-raita ensembles with a twist are what you will get here. Sample if you will, some of the items from their menu: 'Biryani with a Twist', 'Tex Mexx Parathas' and 'Xing Thing' (I hope I remember it right). Well, a little creativity never hurt anyone and it definitely helps if the food tastes good and the service is quick. I was hoping however that their Rajma Chaval combo had the Rajma and rice all mixed up and served.
(Pssst, if anyone from the restaurant is reading, they would do well to zing up their Rajma a little bit more - it needed a little more of both salt and spice.)
Prices are nice - most combos that are a satisfying meal for one come under the Rs.90 range. The interiors are nice and bright, you don't knock elbows with the people at the next table and, hallelujah, the glasses in which they serve water are clean!
What would I give it on my Go-back-there-and-eat-scale? 7.5 on 10.
What real value!
I have eaten here often in last 4 months and I am so impressed with the place.
The positives are more than one, the first and foremost the food. It is so good for everyday eating, you have your stomach full and still feel light. My favourite is their phulka combo - just right to eat all the time.
The service is outstanding as well- the people greet you with a warm smile right from the doorman to the manager.
And to top it up the its so light on pockets.
All I will say its Real Value...
It used to be good!
Well, that said, I'd say this is a decent joint. My experiences here as a bachelor were better. I wasn't demanding and the serving style didn't bother me. Post marriage is another story.
My recent trip with wifey was a disaster [the Kormangla branch ... yes these guys have at least 3 outlets that I know of]. We were given stale rice, hair and some smelly curry. And there was nothing North-Indian about the fare here. I gave the management a dressing down. Of course I did not pay for making a mess of my evening.
To be fair, I've had a good time at their Bennarghatta Road joint. The owner pops in there once in a while. Probably thats why the staff is on their toes there.
Service is ordinary. The coolers [as others have already pointed out] are superlative. The combos are passable.
A decent joint to try out. This kalandar is just about mast
Punjabi Food doesn't sync with Combo Meals
In Bangalore one is constantly on the look out for good Punjabi style food. And most of things in offer disappoint you. Mast Kalandar is just another one in the series.
My main problem with Mast Kalandar is the way the serve food, I mean Punjabi Food and combo, doesn't go well. Punjabi Food depends on quantity more than quality at times, its the sheer pleasure of stuffing yourselves a taste Dal Makhani or a Kulcha Chana which brings water to your mouth. I am not suggesting that you always stuff yourselves but it certainly shouldn't be limited to a bowl of something or other.
Leaving all that aside the seats are uncomfortable, the service not that great. The decor has nothing great to talk about.
Ok coming back to food. Food is quite good, the 3-4 combos we friends ordered all turned out to be quite nice. JalJeera they serve is especially good. Baingan Bharta and Paneer Sabjis were quite nice although the Rotis and Naans could improve a bit. The prices as such are quite OK.
Just wishing they could have served food in a normal manner!!! Anyway recommended for a light Punjabi Meal.
Very Good Food - Simple & Tastey
Best place for a meal for those who are calorie conscious, but love the taste of authentic North-Indian food, be it the main course, desserts or drinks. All food is amazing, if only they would resurrect the tastey pickles they gave in the early days..........
Aam Panna is the best in the world!!!
One thing they need to improve upon is the Air-conditioning...it get's too hot inside...
