Want to Go Here for Breakfast,Veggie Meal Ordinary
From Toit and the nacho experience we headed to Monkey Bar for a more gourmet experience. Monkey Bar a gastro pub is known for its breakfast, their burgers, trendy cocktails and more. We reached the place and the feel was that of a neighborhood pub where everyone knows everyone and a healthy banter spread all around. Limited veggie options, we ordered some straight drinks and then tucked into mushroom rolls and egg and veg goreng, both were good nothing to rave about.
I want to go back for breakfast to tell you more!
Great Place, Very Good Food, Awesome Beer But Expensive!
This is truly an awesome place. It's got a great ambiance, they play nice music(not extremely loud like all other bars/pubs in Bangalore), good service, finger-licking food, great beer and a nice place to hang out. The only drawback is that it's expensive. Having said that, it's better to pay a little more for quality!
A special mention would be their baked potato skins. It's simply awesome. I love the way the scoop the potato, make it into cups and stuff it. The stuffing's yum! Their hamburgers are pretty good too. They serve it with french fries.
Their food presentation and plating is excellent!
I would review it in the following way.
Ambience: 4.5/5 -- For both the underground and ground floor seating areas.
Quality of Service: 4/5
Bang for Your Buck: 3/5
Overall Dining Experience: 4.5/5
Visit again: Definitely but occasionally :)

Brings out the monkey in you !
Went on a Saturday evening, probably the best time to visit. We were 7 in number, and we walked in to see the place was only beginning to get packed. We wouldnt settle for any table other than the ones in the basement right next to the pool table, and we were early enough to get those. The rest was history. We spent 4 hours there, having the best food, and good drinks and a wonderful time with foosball and pool.
Their signature Maanga was fantabulous, served in a nutella jar, plus it gives that tingle to your taste buds every time you take a sip. Their butterfly chicken was finger licking good as well, a must try if you're visiting. I was told their burgers were really good too, but couldnt try it. I opted, instead, for seafood, which was amazing by itself.
The bill came up to 7k, but I'll definitely visit again, if not for the drinks, for the amazing food and the pool and the foosball ! :D
P.S - The place was cramped by around 8, do avoid if you're claustrophobic, or not a big fan of crowded places.
Expensive but delicious!
You may not be able to hang out here every weekend but it's really worth a trip, now and then. The food and the drinks are simply delicious!
Their signature Manga drink is one of the best in Bangalore and it's perfect for a warm afternoon. The menu is very pub/diner like. Simple and delicious. All though it is a tad bit overpriced. Among the starters, try the devilled fish, it's tangy and yum. If you like beef, my bet is that you will love the Tiger Beef. It's heavy on chillies, super spicy and makes for a fantastic combination when you pair it with a chilled beer.
The place gets super crowded on a weekend, you'll barely be able to move. But land up there on a weekday for lunch and you are in for a real treat.
Wonderful gastro bar in Bangalore
Lot of gastro bars have opened in Bangalore over the last year but I think Monkey Bar is the best of them all! Its got the look of a New York underground bar due to its unpainted walls, pool table in the basement and awesome decor. The best item on their menu is the cheese burger - don't be fooled by the name, its a proper beef burger and I would say the best beef burger in the town. Their pork is really good too. Drinks are a bit on the expensive side but worth every penny!
Unique theme and an innovative set of drinks
After hearing and reading about Monkey bar, me and my friend checked it out on a Thursday night. We were more interested in the exotic drinks that we heard so much about and of course we ordered the ever famous "mangaa". It was outstanding! I never expected a drink which had jeera could be this awesome and it was! We had that with chill beef and it was a pretty good combo. The next was a drink, I believe was not on the menu, something called "Copper chimney" I guess (don't remember exactly). It was ok not as good as mangaa. We had that along with peppered heart which was good! After that we had Ginny with a dish called chicken wings gangnam style. The presentation and the taste were pretty good. We finished off with a Mobar burger and we were too stuffed to go for an absinthe shot that we were offered!
Besides the tasty food, the ambiance was great and the music was not that loud. The crowd was good and the waiters were very polite! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and recommended their best drinks along with the perfect food to go with it. Bit pricey but totally worth it! Definitely a place where I would check out again
We had heard a lot about this place, and wanted to visit it since long, and we finally got a chance this week at a friend's birthday.
The place was jam packed on a friday night and we had to wait for 10 mins to be seated. The crowd was not super hip, which was good for us.
The drinks were good and service was fast considering the rush.
The food was really really nice, which came as a pleasant surprise. All the starters were good, in particular the butterfly style chicken, and also the berry chicken pulao was memorable.
We had a good time, and its not extraordinarily priced.
I would surely recommend this place to every party goer.
Absolutely awesome place
We were there on a Saturday evening, and for us, it was all that a pub should be. Lively, warm, noisy, busy and with good drinks. We had 5 or 6 rounds of cocktails, and almost everything was uniformly good. We liked the food too - the pork ribs are highly recommended!
Nice food... but.
This place can really be so much more... I just wish they would get the food part right. It not the taste - the food is really good, but other problems. Like the price - it is expensive. And especially when viewed relative to the quantity - leaves a lot to be desired. Also, it looks like the perfect place for draft beer *pitchers* ... but that isn't there either.
Having said that the food was really nice. The pickled pork pot was really great & served with a meager portion of pav. I don't remember the other dishes, but those were good too.
Overall, the visit was nice - but just didn't feel fully satisfied at the end of it
45 bucks for extra paav??!
Right. So great food. Fun ambiance. No doubt I'd like to be there every weekend, but Exxxpensive! Apart from that, I have found another reason to complain.
We ordered Sorpotel Jam Pot. Finger-licking and even pot-licking deliciouss! But nastily over-priced for a teeny pot of pickled pork in a pub. I mean, 240 bucks?! Cummon!!! And it comes with 3 pieces of thin 2"x2" paav (bread). Which is OBVIOUSLY not enough for the spicy-tangy-awesome-n-petite pot-pork. So we asked the waiter to get us more. The bill was Rs. 285 for the dish. The tiny pieces of three 2"x2" had cost Rs.45!
It is one thing to be known as an expensive hangout, but to charge 45 freakin bucks for 3 teeny tiny pieces of bread is outrageous. It has degraded the image it portrayed till then. I mean, I'd understand if your road-side paav-bhaji vaala charged an extra 5 or 10 bucks for bread, but even he isn't that cheap.
The service isn't too great either. The waiter is hard to find when you need something.
So all said, a HUGE disappointment even though the food is delicious.
Bar! What a counterpoint to Olive Beach, oh my!
Well I never!
Funtimes. I love the noisy, boisterous atmosphere, the lambretta scooter, the waiter who grins naughtily at me when I order another Maangaa, the labelled monkey-innards diagram, BORK BORK!!!, the burgers, the sheer joy of being alive!
And drunk. :D
My girl and I have spent hours sitting and laughing away at each other, grinning and guffawing at the silliest jokes, making weird faces and pulling off dance moves while seated.
The location could be a bit better, but so what. You have to climb the tall mountain to reach the gooroo.
The drinks, my friends say, are weak. I, having been blessed with a looooow capacity, say "YO HO HO!".
Did I say that I was served Mangaa once in a Nutella jar, and once in a pickle jar??? QUIRK, I RAISE MY DRINK TO THEE. MUCH LOUVE.
C'mon ! Worth it ? Really ?
OK, this is the second monkey (other one being i&monkey) that i visited based on feedback in burrp and yet again, disappointed. Not because of the respective places, but my expectations were set pretty high due to the overwhelming reviews.
Location of this place makes me wonder what the reason was to have this at a signal corner, but then if its beer in bangalore, i guess it has to be around MG Road / Richmond / Residency Road. Honestly, the location and the upmarket branding do not go well together.
Ambiance - I agree with fellow burrpers. The booth style seating is nice, and the basement seating is innovative. So is the smoking zone and DJ console. What i hated was the fact that there were tables and chairs all around the place near the booth - and so close to each other.
Food - We were in a hurry and tried just the tiger beef. Nice cuts and recommended.
Will i return ? Certainly not with a plan.
Good Value for Money
Very Retro and one of the most happening place in Bangalore. Very Young, vibrate and lots of expats which makes the place very very energetic.... Not enough space for you to relax, have couple of drinks and enjoy the food.. You will surely have some one sitting almost in your lap .. Depends what age group you are.. I went there for my bday but it was horribly crowded and i cudnt even speak/understand what my friends were telling cos the music was so loud.. SO we moved to Olive Beach, but fav place.. Try the butterfly chicken.. Its awesome but they dont have too many varieties of drikns choices.. So u will have to stick to probably either a beer or mojito.. Liked the place but may not return again!!!!
Great place, good food and good drinks
Monkey bar is really a small pub and is usually packed on the weekends. This is really nice place which has limited seating and plays OK music. They even let people dance, I'm not sure if they have the dancing license.
About the drinks, it has Stella and Hoegardden which is like the best thing in entire Bangalore. They do serve Kingfisher as well. About their cocktails they have a variety of it and they are pretty good. I especially liked Manga :) The Long island iced tea is prettyyy strong as well.
The food here is amazing, especially the burgers. The nibbles of chicken wings decent enough. Overall a great place to hangout with friends on a night out.
I like to Move it Move it!
As soon as you walk into the door, the hussle bussle of the place just appeals to you. After that, it is hard to not get into the groove and party.
The ambience and décor of the place is very out of the box as you can make out that it is not grand but has a very tasteful humility to it, like you are in Leaky Cauldron at Diagon Alley! (Harry potter Fans will relate). The peppy music just adds to the feel and energy of the place.
The stewards are very friendly and helpful even when there is an outflow of customers.
The Manga drink (Vodka with a mango twist) is mouth watering and leaves you wanting more. However, as the name suggests , it is a more of a bar and there is not too much to choose from in terms of the food menu and this is not a place to be if youre a vegetarian and are looking to eat a stomach full.
Overall, an excellent place to spend your Saturday night with friends and have a great time!
tries hard to be american and fails
very very similar to plan b. monkey bar look like a chili's or the texas roadhouse but fall short of even that low bar - NO DRAUGHT BEER, expensive drinks, and you are not able to order french fries... menu claim they have pints of beer, but it is lie - just regular 330ml bottle. very nice, they have a foosball and pool table, but they usually no let you play foosball because not enough room, and pool table always have long line of angry waiting ppls. the burgers are pretty good, but they water down the hot sauce. they think desi can't handle some masala spice!?!?!
Let the games begin!
Pubs and bars mushroom like wild flowers in Bangalore, some are great, the others are average, but Monkey Bar shakes the Bangalore pub scene from its reverie!
The fact that one has to wait for a table even on a weekday night is evidence of its popularity. The interiors are great, the furniture is comfortable and unpretentious. The food takes the cake and deserves a special mention.
They live up to their name by definitely doing things differently, the martinis are not served in traditional martini glasses, but broad goblet glasses, and are absolutely yum! when asked about the glasses, the bartender replied jovially- this is monkey bar, we do it differently! (Loved it!)
The food is outstanding, the baked potato skins with bacon are a must try, and the burgers are definitely a show stopper, huge and served with fries and pickle.
The music is great and does not repeat, ranging from GnR to Steppenwolf, keeps the place going!
Awesome food.. but drinks r tooo expensive
The Place is awesome.. very good ambience... the servers are jst superb and very friendly, nice concept of a gastropub.. and the best place to hand-out wid friends everything about this place is good.. except for the drinks.. its expensive... u don't mind paying for the food coz its jst out of the world...i still can't forget the taste.. but the bill was a whole in the pocket thanks to the drinks and the taxes...
Lovely place, terrible service.
The space is charming and the food was pretty good. I really enjoyed the innovation in the cocktail 'Maanga', but the flavour is too strong to have more than one glass of it. I was appalled with the quality of service, or should I say, the lack of it. We were a group of 12, on a Tuesday evening, in an almost empty place, and they refused to give us enough tables. We had to request 4 times before we got enough place to sit. And even then they refused to move the tables, we did it ourselves while they just stood there! And don't bother asking for a glass of water! You'd get a half empty bottle, no glasses. I guess if you like obnoxious waiters, sitting on peoples laps, and drinking water straight out of a wine bottle, you'd like this place. I will go back for only one thing the foosball table. If it weren't for the service, I'd have been a regular.
Good food & ambience most atrocious service!
Heard really good reviews about the food so we tried the carmelised pork ribs which was a tad too sweet, the sorpotel was good as well as the MoBar Burger. The playlist was pretty decent too. Except the acoustics really need work. The service however was awful, cocky and indifferent. Such a disappointment, considering this may be one of the reasons I wouldn't go back!
If it weren't for the food, I'd not go back
I had read so many reviews about this place that I just had to try it.
We ordered cocktails and burgers. The burgers turned out to be great
Best cheeseburger in town..perfect medium rare
Tried the Monkey mule..it was too salty. When I asked the waiter to make it a little sweeter, he said " Ma'am you shouldve read the menu"..like it said excess salt!
Ambiance is so so..lot of pretentious posters on the wall to give it that pubbish look
If it weren't for the food, I'd not go back.
Great place to hang out with friends
Love the place so much that I've been here thrice in 10 days! I loved the fact that they have a bar area where you can order your drinks while you wait for a table. The food is great. Tried the Baked Potato Skins, P3 Prawns, Onion Rings, Jumbo BBQ Wings and Seared Sausages. Other than the BBQ Wings, the rest were spot on. The quantity was ample. On the drinks front, Beer pints are slightly expensive here but the cocktails are worth it. They have some innovative drinks such as Mangaa (Aaam - panna with vodka) to regulars such as Twisted Lemonade ( Vodka, Lemonade). They have chatty waiters who can suggest items to you from the menu.
The Decor was pleasing and would remind you of pubs that you'd see on popular sitcoms.
The music is great but might be limiting to some people ( They play rock, ranging from Pink Floyd to Red Hot Chili Peppers).
The bill comes upto around 1100 per head ( three rounds of drinks + food ).
I would love to visit this place again.
Only downside, the tables that seat only two people are very small and cramped.
PS: They don't take reservations, so if you're a huge group, ensure that everyone arrives at the same time else you'd have to wait near the bar area ( that place can get crowded since it's a smoking zone) because you won't get a table. (This applies to crowded nights).
Quantity needs to improve
Heard a lot of good reviews about this place since it opened and I was determined to try it. Was sadly a little let down. The ambiance is good. The booth concept works well but only for large groups. A table for two (people who tend to eat well) is extremely cramped. Monkey bar does have commendable flavors, but the quantity was really disappointing.
The Tiger beef starter is impressive. Love the varied assortment of ingredients, excellent flavors.
I got the Seared Sausages as my main course, literally just two sausages which weren't even done too well. It took a lot of struggling, poking and slicing to get my fork and knife through them. However, the german potato salad that accompanies the sausages were absolutely delightful. Then again, my main was suppose to be sausages, not a potato salad.
The Chilli Con Carne again was wonderfully done but disappointing in terms of quantity. It was served in what I would normally consider a medium sized soup bowl.
Highly unsatisfying if you're looking to get a decent amount of good food. I was under the assumption that Gastro-pubs were to cater to that too. Good music and service though. That kept us smiling.
For two starters, two tiny mains that could have passed off as starters, a pint of Kingfisher and a Gin and tonic, we worked up a bill of 1,800. Not happy at all.
Found my new fav hangout!
Such a fun place! Our sorta music (well, we're in our thirties!) :) A funky pub that serves some of the best food! Not too impressed by the cocktails.
Gilawati Kebabs - unbelievably delicious
Spare ribs - Oh boyyyy have they got it right. Meltttts in your mouth
Pickled beef - Lovely flavour, taste
Tiger beef, Sorpotel, MoBar Burger, Lamb Burger.. Pah! I could go on! :) Oh and just a word about the burgers - the patty is just right - just the right amount of juicyness I think it should have!
Been there four times already and I think its been open only for about 2 weeks now! :)
Excellent Food...Back to old watering hole style
So back in 1999-2002 the pubs were the best place to hangout not Malls...The trend changed when pubs took a slight diversion and then in 2012 Bangalore got a new watering hole which replicates the Old Bangalore watering holes....
Sexc food, Free Pool table access, fuss ball and everything tht reminds u of old Bangalore days....Decent pricing too....
This new gastropub is on Wood street and food wld simply leave u asking for more. One of the best places to hangout.
Absolutely loved Monkey Bar this afternoon. Great looking place like pubs were meant to be (before everything became glass and metal), comfy down-to-earth vibe, perfect crowd, and music that could have been right off my rock CD collection! I had the Maanga cocktail (vodka, aam-panna etc.) which was brilliant & refreshing, followed by a Kiwi Sparkler, nice. Others I was with tried the Beer Mary (bloody mary theme with beer), Ginny (excellent) etc. The starters were all kickass - Firecrackers (mushrooms suateed in a chilli paste with shallots and topped with potato straws), the Cal-style crumb-fried bhetki fish served with mustard, and Vada Pav (very good for a restaurant, including a perfectly marinated green chilli). Mains - We shared a Cheeseburger with onions, Lamburger, and Mee Goreng. Very nice. Realized it's been aaages since I had a great, REAL burger! The Fried Pizza though which I was really curious about didn't work out - its supposed to be shallow-fried base, then baked on stone so I'm guessing it should have been a fun crispy base. But turned out to be a bit soggy at the base and uncooked dough inside, so returned it. Guessing something went wrong. Hopefully will try it right the next time... And the MoBar Sundae Sandwich dessert - by now, we were forced to do a 1 by 4 - was a perfect ending. This has to be the best new pub I've been to in a long time!!
Prices are very reasonable for food and drinks of this quality. Most cocktails are around Rs. 250; starters range from Rs. 120-140 for veg starters upto I think Rs. 200 or a bit more for non-veg and seafood. Burgers are between Rs. 230-300, and all other mains are in the Rs. 250-400 range. 4 of us had 6 drinks, 3 starters, 3 mains and 1 dessert, and the tab for under Rs. 4000. Absolutely worth it.
