Peri Peri Experience!
I went to Nandos for lunch with a friend... This is located in Church st.. Quite easy to locate. The ambience is quite good.. We ordered peri peri chicken and pepsi.. The peri peri chicken was real good.. We ordered sides of fresh fried, seasonal grilled veg and coleslaw too. The chicken was soft and juicy.. And we really enjoyed our meal.. Service was okay too.. Prices are a bit on the higher side.. But quite fine for the experience.
Was there for a quick meal and was amazed as usual about how Nando's never disappoints! Ordered a Moroccan Butternut and Grilled Peppers with Chicken Burger Pita Hot Peri-Peri and Cataplana Algarve Extra Hot Peri-Peri. It's evident I have taken great pain to remember the names of the dishes but they were worth the effort! The Portuguese Lemonade which looked a real suspect when it came on to the table was simply yummy, Indianized peri~fectly! The only negative thing was that almost all the dessert on the menu were unavailable and there wasn't even vanilla ice cream to go with the Crunch Roll which is a version of solidified Boost but quite enjoyable! The warm staff greeting outside the entrance itself, immediate guidance to our table on top because downstairs was full, acknowledgement that they are busy with an order at another table and will get to us in two minutes all just add to the experience. Will always be back for more and bring in more people each time.
One time thing !!
Nandos is a very popular South African chain of restaurants that I first encountered in my studies abroad. It was a hot favourite on most indian students list because it was one of the few restaurants that served some actually spicy food and an all you can eat buffet is a haven for students.
Come last year and Nandos opened in Bangalore to a lot of fanfare and noise only to turn out to be a slight disappointment. The staff the waiters and ambience are all pretty good, they even gave my friend a new t shirt after they completely soaked him in a drink spilled by the waiter. The location is good but a pain to access and has absolutely no parking what so ever.
The menu and the food on offer is where my problem started, my first visit I quite enjoyed the peri peri refresher that I hadn't tasted in so long. Soon after though I began to realise that everything on the menu is loaded with the same peri peri sauce and has such a one dimensional taste to the whole thing you might as well buy a bottle and add it to your food at home. There is absolutely nothing else on the menu other than peri peri chicken packaged off as different items. Burgers, grilled chicken, wraps all of it is just peri peri. And to be very honest the peri peri is a slightly tangy, sour kinda spice that I am not exactly mad about.
So until Nandos begins to diversify their menu a little more I plan to stay away because there is only so many times I can look forward to eating sour chicken.
Pros: - Different flavour for first timers
- Chicken and ingredients are of high quality
Cons - bad location (no parking, difficult access by car)
- Menu is too dependant on peri peri
- Bit expensive for such an unimaginative experience.
Very tasty and spicy chicken
I really liked the tasty and spicy chicken at Nando's. Made in traditional South African Peri Peri style, it was very yummy. My husband had Chicken Livers and Portugese Roll which he said was exquisite. I tried out Chicken Steak with Spicy rice and Fries. Chicken steak was nice but fries were a total letdown. Better option was my husband's main course which was Peri Peri Quarter chicken which had wonderful taste which was spicy and tangy at the same time.
Peri peri spicy
Nandos has opened in Bangalore after their global success, and they bring the same formula to the table. Good chicken, a variety of sauces, and in particular the spicy peri peri sauce.
You will get a limited menu of starters, salads, chicken, burgers and drinks. We tried the burger which was average and the chicken strips with rice, which was quite nice and flaourful.
You get 4-5 types of causes on your table to be added with the food.
Though it's more of a chicken place, they do have options for the veggies also.
You dont have to be Portuguese to eat at Nando's!
This is my first visit to any Nando's in India.
I had kept my expectations high limited only to chicken.
As this was 31st Dec evening at around 8p.m, expected it to be more crowded and struggle to get a seat. However, we were warmly welcomed by couple of cheerful girls.
The music is familiar to that of Nandos at other places, however ambience could be better.
We didnt find any great service. Even though there wasnt much crowd, they were found to be not too enthusiastic in serving.
We took chicken meal with Rice and grilled vegetables. No complaints about food. Tasty as ever. You will love the chicken with different degrees of hot peri peri sauce.
Flavoured rice too was tasty. Not disappointed with the portion.
We ordered Mediterranian salad and foud it without Olives!!! How can a mediterranian salad be without Olives? However, after bringing it to their notice, we were given olives separately.
Salad was fresh and not disappointing at all. Feta cheese added to the salad taste.
We ordered grilled Paneer. It wasnt great if not bad.
We ordered for Portuguese Lemonade which to our surprise was not served until we were almost finished eating. Talk about service!!
However, we were told its not available and provided with complimentary coke.
Try out the Pateis de nata (called Natas). Though this is my first time ever tasting a nata, it was really cool. Try this out.
Please don't go in with high expectation in terms of service.
I think Nandos Bangalore must improve on service. Customers do not deserve this service while you demand Service charge as part of the bill.
Over all Food is great, no complaints. Kudos to Peri Peri sauce.
Yes, very good value for money!!!
Go spice up your food!!
Veg at Nando's
As expected from any vegetarian, I too was initially reluctant to dine at Nando's for obvious reasons. Their trademark is their chicken and they make no bones about it. After much persuasion though I finally ended up dining there and was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
The paneer was incredibly soft and spicy. That was when I realized their trademark is more the sauce and not just chicken. The service + food + ambiance might just have made me a regular now.
Extraordinary Service and a Culinary Masterpiece
Last week was sadly my first time at Nando's - Chruch Street. I only wish it had been much earlier. What caught me by surprise was the warm and courteous staff who attended to our every need. Right from the valet to ushering us to our table, we were treated pretty well. The staff I noticed runs about to our every beck and call.
We commenced dinner with some JD or Jack as I'd like to call it, which was what we seriously needed after a long week at the office. Along with drinks we ordered Chicken Livers, which were killer and Mini Chicken Kebabs, if I've got the name right.
Post starters we ordered the Half Chicken meal which was humongous and very appetizing. The sauces at Nando's I believe are a trademark and a must try. Feel free to use as much as you'd like. We ordered another round of Jack which was one of the best decisions we'd made along with the Half Chicken :)
Our dinner overall was excellent and I'm definitively looking forward to visiting Nando's once again, but this time with a larger group of colleagues. Kudos to the staff, management and chefs for their hospitality, amazing service, turnaround time and culinary skills which to me is currently one of the best in town!
Atrocious service at Nandos
I had been waiting to try out Nandos from a long time after having heard much about it. Our expectations started dipping right from the moment we entered the Nandos restaurant on Church Street, Bangalore. After being cursorily greeted and seated, we had to wait for a few minutes before we got a table. After being seated, it took a good 5 minutes before we were served water. After deciding our meals, we had to wave our arms to multiple waiters, before one of the guys noticed us and finally took our order. Our order came in 15 minutes as promised but to our dismay, the chicken wings appetizer never materialized. After multiple attempts to signal a waiter, one of the guys said he'd check with the kitchen and never got back! Now, we were irritated and hungry. The quarter chicken meal was okay- the chicken was hard and tough, while the sauce lived up to it's reputation. We decided to get out of the place and asked for the check. The check comes (again a delay) but we're also billed for the missing starter! When we brought it to the attention of the staff, the corrected bill was given, without any apology for the bad service rendered! I hope that this is not the case with the other Nandos outlets, but this Nandos outlet is not going to get any more business from me for sure!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS !!
I recently visited Nando's and tried out the highly recommended quarter chicken meal and Chicken wings . A friend of mine had the Espetada Rustica and some chicken livers .... and all I can say is that it was one of my BEST dining experience !!
The Service was very courteous and the staff was very well trained. I was surprised by the range of drinks available at the bar.. and had some great drinks ...
I have been to Nando's during my travel to UK and this replicated the great experience
A must visit for anyone who lives or travels to bangalore ....
Overpriced ! Horrible attitude
Date visited: 2 Sep
Moroccan BTRNUT Grill : The bun was actually sweet ;-(
Chicken Espedtada Rustica : Saving grace
Quarter Chicken: The reason why went to the place. Totally disappointed
Chocolate Crunch Role: Horrible
I used to frequent this place during my stints in the UK...the chicken is real spicy and awesome...as expected the owner of the franchise in India wants to recover all his investments from one evening so corners have been cut in all possible places starting with ingredients (most of which are imported)...I am sure they use less herbs/spice/inputs than recommended hence the chicken was actually bland..the toilet is dirty...BTW there is only one and that too on 1st floor..
Service well thats another story: There are many and all of them just hang around near the entrance...i had to ask 3 waiters for water every time..none of them knew anything about what they were serving..
We ordered for a drink of Baileys Irish cream for dessert as it was on the menu. The waiter said it is not available..when I happen to go up to use the washroom I noticed a full bottle..When I asked the barman he said he did not know the reason..he and another waiter had a long discussion about it in Tamil..Thats when it occurred to me...there are two groups of waiters one a Tam gang and one that speaks only Hindi and as expected they don't work together...
I probably would've put up with all this if not for the horrible price and to make matters worse 10% service charge for non-existent service !
I had heard a lot of the Nando's restaurant that opened in Blore few months back bt i got the chance to visit it just recently, when I took some of my cousins, who had come down from UK, to the restaurant..
we ordered the Chicken Strips and Rice, of course the famous quarter chicken meal and couple of veggie salads..The chicken was delicious, it was tender, cooked just right and the Peri sauce just added the right zing.. my cousins who are fans of the Nando's in UK loved the place and the service.. The staff was very interactive, had grt knowledge of the menu and the entire experience was worth it.. Will definitely be goin back..
I had the Nando's trademark Quarter chicken meal and it was great !! Being very health conscious, its good to have grilled chicken instead of the fried chicken in most places ...... i also ordered for home delivery recently and the chicken was at par with the restaurant experience !! A marked improvement in service !! cant wait to go back.......
What a con, they charged me Rs250 for a Rs25 can of locally made Diet Coke!!! How is that for markup... even a hotel minibar wont charge you this much in a 5 star hotel.
The food is not your normal good standard nandos food and some items on the menu arent even available!! Which they dont tell you until you are ordering....
I questioned about the overcharge of the diet coke the manager said it was uppper managements pricing... I guess they have to pay for their new BMW's somehow!!
Dont go you will be disappointed.
The order details :
1)Non veg platter - contains few pieces of chicken ,few quarters of pita ,a bowl of olives, hummus, mayo.
2)Quarter chicken meal
1)The chicken is good, almost as good as it gets. The sad part is the fact that this is the only redeeming feature of this place.
2)The non veg platter lacks in the quantity of chicken ,for a platter what you get is 3 pieces of winglets ,around 5-6 small pieces of thighs. They are though very generous in the quantity of hummus and olives.
3)This place is expensive ,more so due to the amount of taxes. The total tax on your bill comes up to ridiculously high 28% .
4)The food is comfort food ,but you are playing exotic rates for the same.
5)The cheesecake is something totally different.Though i enjoyed the same ,but that doesnt change the fact that it is not a cheesecake. The main ingredient seems to be amul milk powder :-)
If they can manage to bring down the rates by 30%,this place can surely rock.
Have really been looking forward to trying Nandos in India. Finally got there and had the chicken steak which was good but the chicken was slightly dry. The rice however that accompanied the chicken was rather greasy and almost like a biryani of sorts. For dessert we ordered the caramel cheesecake which was quite so-so. the base was good as was the topping but the body of the cheesecake was woefully lacking... almost felt like a box of either Brittania or Amul cheesespread were slapped in between... No form, no definition...terrible at Rs 150++.
Overall 2 chicken steaks and one dessert set us back almost Rs 1100. Taxes and charges at this place are ridiculous... the bill should have been Rs 880 but with all the ++ charges it came to almost Rs 1150. Ok except the dessert. Quite an expensive proposition for 2 chicken breasts! At these prices cant be going there very often...
expensive piece of chicken
heard a lot on radio of the fingerlickin' peri peri chicken, attractive promotions really got me in, but no complaints for the food here, tasted awsome. my sibz and myself settled for the meal for four, four pieces of tangy juicy peri-peri chicken, wedges, n the works. disappointing was the pinch of garlic butter u get for a mountain of bread, got me wonderin was the butter less or the bread more. the sauces kept me quizzical throughout the noon. i recommend if u wanna burn ur bucks on a piece of chicken, i neva really cud get their billing system though. will i be going back here hmmmmm...... not in a long time.
Revisiting Nando's experience
I had been critical about this place on an earlier occasion. They had just opened and the service was a mess. Chicken was not cooked well, items on the menu were not available. All in all it was a disaster.
I happened to drop by again and was surprised by the way most of the aspects have improved. Chicken done well, fast service and courteous staff!
Nando's, you are almost there....
Fernando would be ashamed of Nandos on Chruch St
the menu is extensive, the choices are plenty. this is the only good part of my experience. I've gorged on Nandos in London at a weekly frequency across the year and the chicken there is truly delectable. Expecting the same from the local one on Church St was a HUGE mistake. we ordered the platter for 4. the bird was old and stringy and dry to the bone. not succulent and rich in flavor. this was devoid of taste. the bread was rock hard, the kind you toss at a pesky stray. the beverages were so so. the service was so slow. the manager was keen on pleasing his tourist/expat clientele. They got their menus and food faster that people who were there before. Stupidly sad but true. Would i recommend this place - YES. if you really are in the mood for some awful food and service and if you're okay leaving with lotsa stringy chicken stuck between your teeth.
A friend who swears by this place took me out here. For someone who does not want to spend a lot of money while dining out, Nando's is the place to go.
Nando's main attraction is their excellent hot sauce. The food is good, the service speedy, and the ambience is great.
Loved the sauces. Definitely a chicken-lover place.
I really do stand by the fact that it is awesome.
A solid favorite.
The parking would be a problem though as it is located on a busy street but it's all worth the trouble.
Horrible... Avoid it
I had been to Nando's in UK various times. When I saw the restaurent in Bangalore, I visited it. I had ordered meal for 2. The chicken is not well cooked and not of good quality. The sauce tastes different. There is no comparison with the Nando's in UK. The people who had tried Nando's around the world, please avoid this chain. Its not worth to spend Rs. 1000/- for two people.
Spicy N Nice
One word of warning : The portions are HUGE .... one chicken esperato is easily enough for 2 moderate diners. You can choose between the sauces - from mild to wild !!! The coolers are yum as well. The menu consisted of a good number of vegetarian options are well. Overall a nice experience.
A good lunch option on church street. Portuguese if you will.I had the chicken steak and some falaffel. Nothing vastly different, but for the ambience and the feel of a Portuguese restaurant. Need to try out the other things on the menu. I reckon I will be going back to dig deeper into it's menu. For now it stays good . Prices are church street competitive
i went to nandos for lunch..it did took some time gettin a table for 2 even though it has 2 floors ..bt it was well worth the wait. The mocktails we ordered were nice n refreshing . For the main course i had something rustica wic consists of chicken pieces on a skewer n sum vegetables n a loaf of bread. The chicken was yum and i loves that it has sun dried tomatoes in between. My sis had a chicken wrap which came with fries ..It was delicious as well..i would definately recommend this place to my friends!
Service definitely better than earlier!
I had written a review earlier here in which I had praised the food but cursed the service.
Lately, however, I had heard that their service had improved, so I went to confirm it for myself.
And it's true! The service was markedly pleasant! Most of the stupid waiters from earlier had been thrown out. The few who remained from earlier seemed to be taking their careers more seriously.
If their food wasn't so good I would probably have never returned to the restaurant.
Hopefully, Nando's Bangalore will continue to serve out their famous, delicious chicken and never revert to their horrid earlier service standard.
Absolutely Overrated Completely Disappointing!
For anyone who has traveled his or her fair share around countries, you could expect the person to have come across Nandos. In all fairness, it really is an international chain of restaurants. My first tryst with Nandos took place in London where I was thoroughly blown away by the Chicken (which is well.. their USP!). And when I heard that Nandos was coming to town, I just couldn't wait to sink my teeth in the same great taste.
So I call them up for a reservation (as we normally do in Bangalore), and after waiting on line hearing the rings on what seemed longer than Pinocchio's nose- and getting longer by the second, a guy (who couldn't care less to pick the call because working at 'Nandos' itself was the achievement of a lifetime) picks up the call indifferently and curtly responds that the facility isn't available and I'll just need to walk-in! Fair enough I say, and I arrive at the temple of Chicken deliciousness two hours later.
After waiting in the cramped 'reception' for over 15 minutes standing (we're Indian I convince myself, and thus able to 'stand-up' to the owner being miserly in adding a few more chairs) we are shown to our table. All sins forgiven! Time for the moment of truth! I order the Quarter Chicken meal, a cob, and my friend has her sights on the burger.
Cob makes its presence felt first and my stomach is the first to lose its presence. Chicken and burger arrives next, and although I do think of myself as man with reasonable persistence in face of challenges, what was I to know of the challenge of the utterly chewy undercooked peri pasted (read: slobbered) burger! Now, and intelligent reader might notice and say that the burger was for my friend.. yes, but there's love in sharing! Not in this case though. My chicken was satisfactory, but NO where near what I had eaten in London. On close inspection and flaunting my culinary skills, it just merely seemed like a normally (probably marinated) chicken thrown hastily on a grill and in an attempt to be eco-friendly and save the planet from burning fossil fuels, brought out a little too early, smacked kinkily with the only arsenal in their kitchen- la peri-peri.. and shooed its way out! For the love of Chicken man! I could just sense its soul turning in its.. um.. wherever it is. To salvage an already gutted evening, we brilliantly decide to order a desert. I think it was possibly the most un-brilliant thing of my life! No comments there.
Fine, being an accommodating person, I thought Nandos deserves a second chance. So this time I go and order the Espetada- the thing which is brought upside down hanging on for dear life, and the Chicken Wings. I retreat to relax thinking it would take somewhere close to the time it took on my last visit for the food to arrive. But lo and behold! Its all on my table within 5 mins! Too quick you might think- even for the impatient Indian!
This time, they came with all their might! Absolutely cold, chewy as the tire on my old bicycle and the call of Hercules' strenght to tear it apart! Needless to say, I did not order desert. Petrified yet? No.. hold on till you know that when I asked the remaining chicken to be parceled (to feed to the dogs), they said they don't parcel!!!
On being utterly bemused by this comment, they offered to give me the chicken pieces in.... guess guess... an ENVELOPE!! No kidding! Reluctantly I agreed and was waiting for the envelope to be 'posted' my way after clearing the bill, and it refused to arrive! After waiting for a further 10 mins, and then succeeding in catching hold of the steward attending to us, it seems that he had forgotten!! For the love of GOD!
For all the pain of finding a parking on Church street, the cramped reception, the 'I-have-arrived least-bothered stewards', the cold, chewy chicken, utterly unchallengeable deserts and not to mention- the exorbitant prices for a grilled chicken (which I might dare say can make better in my own balcony for less than half the price), it really really isn't worth the hours of precious life, oxygen and patience at this place. Better spend it cuddling your pillow eating popcorn and watching reruns of Krazy Karan's Koffee.
I had read reviews about this restaurant that gave a kind of mixed feeling, in addition the ratings were on the lower side. However, we did visit this restaurant due to the persistence of my son and the experience on the food side turned out to be pretty good. The chicken wings, chicken steak, chicken kababs etc., were really good with the different kind of flavours or sauces that they serve.
However, having said the above, this is not a fine dining experience from a service point of view. They mostly employ college graduates who are not properly trained and one has to be really clear in the communication to get the right stuff. The pricing of the food items do not discount this hence, it appears to be expensive, as a result.
Please visit this restaurant only for a different kind of food and NOT with high quality service expectations, if so, you will just like your dining experience.
My first visit to Nando's on Church Street wasn't really overwhelming. The Caesar Salad was fresh but with chewy, way-too-pungent Parmesan. Their quarter chicken meal was a little too much..there's no option of ordering chicken alone without the accompanying rice and the works. Their Peri-Peri sauces were tangier than spicy which made me look quizzical throughout the afternoon. We ordered their famous Natas for dessert which were passable. A little mess-up during billing was rectified promptly by them. All in all, it was just an average lunch experience..wish they'd leave Nando's to being a fast food chain.
My friend had been suggesting we go to this place for quite a while and so, yesterday we did. After being fortunate enough to find a parking spot, just five minutes from the restaurant, we hurried along the very crowded Church Street and into the peaceful restaurant. Happily seated at a table for two, we peered at the menus and I decided to do as my friend suggested and have the Quarter Chicken meal. My friend ordered the same. Our food came quickly and tasted absolutely amazing. There was quite a quantity of it - a leg of Chicken, a bowl of Rice, some Coleslaw and quite a lot of Fries. However, it was very light and I, an extremely small eater, felt hungry after my meal. I also tried all the Peri Peri sauces and loved the lot. For dessert, we ordered Crunchy Chocolate Rolls and enjoyed them. I was tempted to buy one of the Peri Peri sauces but, not being sure whether it would go as well with meats other than Chicken, figured I would think about it for a few days. However, now my mind is made up and a bottle or bottles of that sauce shall soon be mine. The ambience is very nice with tasteful paintings on the wall. There is a lot of light and space and the furniture is comfortable. The menu is quite extensive and most of it sounded very appetising to me. The service is alright. I have a feeling that my accent was beyond the waiter's comprehension as I had to repeat everything I said twice. Also, the waiter seemed to prefer to address my male friend as opposed to me. However, as this isn't an expensive, fine dining restaurant, these little lapses in courtesy are forgiveable. Certainly a place which I will go back to many many times and recommend, for the ultimate Chicken and Peri Peri sauce experience.
Nandos located on church street offers chicken marinated in Peri - Peri sauce complemented with side orders like fries, wings, Cole slaw and Peri Peri rice. The Peri - Peri sauce mixed with herbs and other spices to make the marinade has different spice levels to suite to everybody's palate. The marinated chicken is grilled on high flame to get a charcoal flavor. The perfectly cut fries are served with Peri - Peri powder sprinkled on it that makes it unstoppable. I had a sheer gratifying experience of eating spicy chicken in a decently lighted restaurant. It was definitely a great and highly recommendable dine in experience expensive but yet recommendable.
A good Nando's experience in Bangalore!
Having eaten in Nando's in South Africa and Dubai, the Nando's in Bangalore comes very close to the real thing! The restaurant ambiance is good, nothing spectacular, but Nando's isn't famous for that anyway!
We ordered for the Quarter Chk Meal and Half Chk Meal, one with the garlic bread and one with the spicy rice. We chose the 'Hot' flavor from their scale having tired it before. The chicken serving was very good, and cooked very well. However, it wasn't as HOT as it should have been! The potaton wedges were good, so was the cloeslaw, but the quantity of coleslaw was disappointing. The spicy rice was good too! We also ordered for a portion of chicken wings (5 in a plate), which were good, but only 5 pieces was a bit of a rip-off for Rs 160. Overall, the food experience was really good! Service was also timely.
Now coming to the few flaws; the server was not enthusiastic at all. No smile, nothing! The restaurant does not give you an option to order ONLY the chicken, it is only available either in a meal, or with rice, etc! They need to add this to their menu, all worldwide locations have this! And of course, the restaurant is a bit expensive. A meal for two cost us Rs 500 each, without alcohol or any other drinks.
But I'd still strongly recommend Nando's for it's chicken. They do make it very very well. Do try their 'Wild Herb' sauce and their dry spice mix, goes very well with the wedges and the chicken. I'd also strongly recommend that you stick to their basic chicken meals, and do not digress, the chicken is what they are good at, don't eat salads!!! C'mon!!
Peri Peri Disappointing
For a place that's supposed to specialise in serving sumptious, tender, flame grilled chicken, Nando's Bangalore seems to get it all wrong.
My friend ordered the Espetada and both of us gasped when it arrived at our table because it looked so delicious! However, a mini battle ensued when he tried to cut and subsequently chew one of the pieces.
I ordered the chicken strips and rice. What an anticlimax. A little bit of spicy rice strewn on the plate with some really sad looking pieces of chicken thrown on top.
Perhaps they've got their gills on too hot or they need to start sourcing better quality chicken. I think they should do the latter because nothing is cheap at this place.
Both of us thought that we could salvage the situation by drowning the chicken in one of the famous Nando's sauces that are kept on the table. Unfortunately, and for some very strange reason, the sauces were far tangier than they normally are. (Are they adding extra preservatives or something? Strange)
Plus points: The restaurant itself is prettily done up. The staff is very courteous and friendly (even on a busy sunday afternoon) and the grilled veggies they serve with the espetada are quite delicious.
I'm not saying you shouldn't visit Nando's. Please go ahead and do so if you get parking easily on Church Street. Just don't make an outing out of it.
As far as I recall we walked straight in to the seating areas...that was a weekday...The portuguese lemonade is overhyped. more of a chilli soda!. A half chicken portion (just enough to calm a voracious carnivore) + tax, costs 450...quite steep...This includes a accompanying dry bland rice portion...Ud need the chilli soda to throat it down...So make sure u have it at hand, am not sure i faced any 'water' problems as most have reviewed. Its worth it first time, kinda think twice the second time...too steep, third time id probably walk down to Empire and maybe have a full chicken + ghee rice for under 250 bucks..Why did the Chicken cross the road?....PRICELESS!
you should know what to order !
Had been here 2 weeks back... trust me guys the chicken in the peri peri sauce is really delicious .....my mouth waters at the utter of the words...go for mild or hot peri peri, also go for the dish with pcs of chicken on a tandoor rod hanging....cant recollect the name. The hummus and pita bread were yummy... kindly dnt go for any desserts..they are simply pathetic....we ordered 3 from an already limited menu......the description might be good but the dish will most definitely suck! and yes this is an expensive place but the ambience and the food are worth it....again DO NOT order desserts.
The Chicken is improving
When I first heard that Nando's was opening in Bangalore I was pretty thrilled to say the least ... I, like many of the reviewers here, had gone to the Nando's outlets in the UK and was pretty taken away by the food there!
After a long wait, and several false alarms on the opening day, I finally managed to get there on the opening night ...
The service at that time was not too good. However, as it was their first night, they could be excused since they were getting their bearings. The food however, more than made up for that ...
The second time I came in, a few weeks later, the service still hadn't improved ... the wait for the food took even longer if that was possible!
I had almost lost all hope and thought that the restaurant (much to my displeasure) would die quite an early death despite the great food.
Then I went there again recently ...
The service had definitely improved ... the time it took to deliver the food had gone down significantly, and we weren't left waiting for too long a time ...
This has given me some hope that the restaurant is going to survive ...
Nandos.... So disappointing
Oh what a horrible Friday evening it was at Nando's. Heres what we faced:
1) A Condescending usher/manager
2) Waiters who do not know whats on the menu
3) A forever wait to get a glass of water
4) Dry chicken and even drier rice
5) Many of the dishes listed on the menu not available
Nando's should remember that even big name restaurants across the globe have had to shut shop once the diners stopped coming.
More demand and less supply best describes the opening months of Nando's. The limited space is not enough for the big hungry Bangalore crowd thus resulting in long waiting time.
Coming to the food, their Peri-Peri sauce comes up there, in the list of best tasting sauces.
Finger licking chicken wings and a big variety of chicken dishes served in interesting cutlery.
Warning: This place is for chicken lovers ONLY. The others can come and buy some Peri-Peri sauce to eat with their home-made dishes.
pretty good chicken place
im actually surprised with all the negative reviews here. The place is pretty good, though a little expensive.
The chicken is not grilled or cooked the traditional indian way but tastes really good. You also have a say in how spicy it should be.
I had a chicken steak along with mini kababs. The mini kababs were really good. The chicken steak was juicy and the rice that came along reminded me of dhansak
it came to about Rs.350 per head
Nightmare in Church Street!!!
What an experience!! After reading all the reviews, we still felt we should give Nando's a fair chance and try it firsthand. We were a group of 4, and we had won a voucher for a meal 4 two, and had clearly spelt this to the waiter at the time of placing the order. All seemed fine till the orders were placed. The wait was horribly long, and we felt we would be rewarded for our patience... but God was I so wrong. The food was awful and the hyped Peri-Peri sauce was more tangy then hot. The chicken seemed to have lost all its glory in the grill and the salad tasted much better than anything else on the platter.
The waiter was clueless and he kept on smiling all the time...Probably he knew what we were getting into. Getting the bill took another eternity (we could have finished a round of shopping with my wife, and still the bill would not have been ready). And when we did finally get the bill, the voucher was not adjusted. After umpteen rectification of the bill, we were told about the conditions and exclusions. By this time were so gloriously frustrated that we agreed to settle whatever it took to get out of this mess.
Would I go there again? Hell No Would I recommend this place to anyone? Yes to all whom I have a grudge against
Folks.. If you still feel adventurous, go ahead and try it out.. But keep a little space for someplace else.. You would need the change of taste (and service) after Nandos
Pathetic Service...that would be an understatement
I got there with my family on our second attempt. First attempt had a waiting period of over an hour.
First of, we couldn't reserve a table as no one picked up the phone on their listed number 65681480.
The waiter didn't seem to understand English, but that is ok. But, he didn't seem to be interested in serving us! He took our order after I reminded him thrice. Just when we thought we were past the ordering the food took forever to arrive. May be my stars were not aligned...everyone else seem to be receiving their order. I had to remind the waiter and the manager twice to check on our order.
The cheque took forever and sure enough we were not offered a feedback form. Incidentally, I don't find a website to provide feedback either. May be Nando's should take a leaf out of Chilli's on Old Airport Road and have their customers provide feedback online if they are serious about service.
The whole experience left the family irritated and the kids fighting. We had to get out of there fast and would have if we could leave without paying.
We dine out every week and Nando's is one place we will definitely avoid. The food is great, but the pathetic service makes it a less than average place. I would not recommend it to my friends.
In case someone from Nando's is reading this. Here are the details.

couldnt get worse
Being a total Nandos fan(uk and australia) i had been waiting to try the bangalore version on Nandos ever since it opened. Finally managed to get there on 23-dec. the whole experience right from the so called valet to getting our change was a total nightmare.
1.They have a huge board that says 'valet parking' and 2 drivers standing there, but as we pulled up they say 'we have valet but there is no parking available' pointing out to the 2 cars parked right outside, which is all the parking the apparently have!!
2.We luckily managed to get a table as soon as we got there at 8:00PM. After being seated it took us 20mins to get the waiters attention.
3.The portugese lemonade was a total disaster.
4.They got us wings when we order the peri peri chicken kebab as an appetizer.
4.The main course though was the only saving grace. We ordered for the chicken steak, quarter chicken and the chicken strips. The peri-peri sauce of course was perfect, true nandos style.
5. We had to ask for water 5 times and then ask 5times again to have our glasses refilled.
6.Our bill took another 15minutes after having to ask them repeatedly and the change took another 10mins.
After all this terrible service they take the liberty of adding a 10% service charge which they totally dont deserve considering the fact that the service at local andhra restaurant tat serves 'andhra chilly chicken' is way better than what they offer.
I think its high time the management takes note and sends their staff for some sort of a training program.
Only saurce is Nandos
I was fun of Nandos because of my London experience. but Bangalore Nandos is totally different except source. I was first client today but it take more than 30 minutes to serve the food and also he made mistake for order. and honesty speaking taste was not good. I think it is better to train the staff is most important.I am so afraid to break the brand image. i hope it will be recover as soon as possible. or change the all staff.
Pathetic service, below par food, overpriced
The 45 minute wait (while several tables remained unoccupied) is probably one way to con you into thinking that the place is busier than it is. This experience could not have worse, and this is why
1. Tables are not assigned waiters. Waiters are probably 1 per 5 customers, but your ability to get one's attention depends on planetary alignment, luck, and which side you got out of bed on this morning.
2. You get what you didn't order. Spicy chicken? Here's the mild version. Lemonade? Here's Coke instead. Ice? Try it sir, it's really very cold (?!!) Sorry we could get you your order, but it would take another hour
3. The food's over-rated - the peri peri chicken really wasn't that great, and we're not sure whether the post-dinner nausea was induced by the food or the stuffy ambience inside the restaurant
4. Their card machine doesn't work - at an average of Rs. 500/- per head, please make sure you're carrying wads of cash when you walk in. Sorry we could get the machine to work, but that would take another hour.
I wouldn't do Nando's again. If you're stuck in the area and crave chicken, the Empire down the street does better chicken and better service, not to mention accepts cards (for one-fourth the prices)
forget the bad service
forget the wait
forget the parking problems
forget the un-nando-like atmosphere
Something's still amiss at Namma Nandos.
Not so tasty
Ive been a regular at the Nandos in England and NZ, but the food here didnt match up to what was there. It shouldnt be, its a franchise.. but the food just didnt have that thing that makes you rave and rant and want to come back again and again.
Not spicy enough
A friend whose sweat pores and eyes have the same outflow rate at Gangotri [the chaat place] ate his chicken wings [Very Hot] peacefully!
Svalpa Adjust Maadi
Nandos is known for the spicy chicken, but come on...this is Bangalore [svalpa adjust maadi]; the veg menu was bad if it existed at all
I had herded my friends into this restaurant (a week after it opened) advertizing the chicken wings and the peri-peri sauce....I am surprised I survived the evening.
Lousy, pathetic service all around
We've been to Nando's both in South Africa and in London, and were eagerly waiting for it to open in Bangalore. Although the food was great, the service seemed to be hell bent in tarnishing the reputation of Nando's worldwide.
It started at the door. When we asked the usher how long it would take he wrote our name down and asked us to come after 45 minutes. While we were waiting outside we noticed that a person who had come after us getting a table earlier! When we asked, the usher, his name was Rahul, said that the customer had come earlier. When we asked the customer's name and checked the list, it was after ours! And then Rahul says, no that was a different guy altogether!
While we were asking why he was not sticking to the rules set by the restaurant, another family who had been waiting got upset because they had been waiting for longer than 45 minutes and left.
That was the first round.
After we went in we realised that the attitude was nothing to do with the usher, Rahul, but with all the waiters at the restaurant! Nobody was interesting in serving! Everybody was busy loitering about and nobody would come to the table unless you actually called out to them. There didn't seem to be any waiter assigned to our table also!
After ages, we finally called out to someone to order. And the first thing we asked for was water. Of course, the food was great. And after spending an hour at dinner, when the waiter was getting our check, we again asked for the water. This must have been for the fifth time! Even after he got the bill paid and cleared, which itself took half an hour, it took another reminder for the waiter to finally get us our water.
The food was the only consolation, but I think I'll wait for their take-away. I can't beleive that the service is so pathetic, so lousy, in a restaurant like Nando's. The management either needs to do something about it or maybe hand over the managing of the restaurant to people who actually can do that!
Good but not great
I was very excited to go to the restaurant especially since I was the one who added the place on burrp. First of all, they could not have chosen a worse location. There is no parking place available and it is a nightmare trying to get a parking place there. The place is packed in the weekend and it was a one hour wait to get my table. There was no confusion with my order but a few tables adjacent to mine did get wrong orders. Coming to the food, I found the chicken bland and I did hear similar comments from others. They only put the peri peri sauce on the chicken. The sauces are unbelievable, but they put the sauces on all their dishes and frankly you lose interest if all your dishes taste the same. My advice would be to try it for the peri peri sauces. The management needs to improve the service and my sincere request to all those who wish to open a restaurant is too stay brigade road cause frankly the trouble is not worth it even if the restaurant is great.
awesome food!! terrible experience
I am a loyal fan of Nandos and my devotion to this joint has resulted from the numerous visits to the Nandos outlets in UK. When they opened their outlet in Bangalore, I was more than thrilled!
A terribly discourteous staff tells me that due to technical reasons they are closed. This came as a surprise as a few moments before that, I had confirmed from another employee that the place is open.
We ask for Espetada and the 'talented' staff tell me that they don't have that. A few minutes later, I see the neighbouring table being served the same damn thing! When I enquired the reason this was done, I was simply told, "we were out of skewers".
Yes, I love the peri peri sauce and the concept of flame grilled chicken. More importantly, I love the food at Nandos. However, I would hate to visit the Bangalore outlet, purely out of the disgust towards the callous attitude of the staff here. I am sure, for the money that I have paid, I deserve something better!
Not at all what was expected
We visited the place on Saturday early evening, firstly no parking and as I'm sure you are aware trying to get parking on that side of town is pure hell.
We managed to get parking near rest house road and trekked up to the place. The waiting time was 30 mins and we could not order until we were seated, fair enough.
After 40 mins we were showed to our table and we placed our order although it was more like the staff were headless chickens, no one knew what needs to be done .
We got our order sans the drinks that we ordered, they didnt have the super hot sauce in the table and could not find it but it was there for sale? How ironic that they could not open one up for us during our dinner? No water was provided although they were giving them to other tables. Frustrated we asked for the bill and I had gone up stairs to check and thats when I had noticed a full bar which no one decided to tell me about cause I think a beer with the meal would have done well.
Synopsis Nandos as a place really need to look at the management that they have given the franchise to as it will hurt their brand image, secondly valet parking a must, thirdly if they dont get their act together fast they will get people coming in once and never again. I honestly think the place will die a natural death.
Food ok, Service horrible
came with high expectation to Nando's, have been to South African branch before and I loved the dishes. The place is nicely done, but what started from the beginning service-wise, continued throughout the night...there was so much service staff, that they were more busy to talk to themselves than taking care of customers...
and then it all started, we were a group of 6. We all ordered our mains, 2 also ordered starters. After 10 min (!), one waiter comes and tells us that two entrees won't be available (we asked for wraps). Another 5min later, the same waiter comes again to tell us that another entree won't be available either. Don't know how their ordering - kitchen process runs, but this is purely not acceptable. What happened afterwards was then pure show: 5 of us were literally finishing our main dishes when another friend still didn't have his starter...it finally came and what turned out to be some paneer dish, was below average and the best thing: the main dish that he also ordered came another 10 min later and was the exact same dish even though he ordered different things.
That's when my friend became angry, gave them a piece of his mind and told them that service is unacceptable at all.
Sorry to say, but we didn't go out with a smile and a happy feeling and isn't dining out exactly about this ?
Sorry Nando's, but you need to shape up !
Too hyped a name, Too high a price
After hearing my friends non-stop blabbering about this place, and a 45 minute wait outside the packed restaurant , I went to Nando's.
As excited as I was, I was not that happy in the end, majorly because of the payment I made. The dishes are good but the potion a little less for the price ( almost all of your dish is lemon rice).
but have to say that the peri-peri sauces are out of the world.
Also I really wanted to have the Espedata's which you guys were out of stock or whatever when I was placing the order and suddenly after 15 minutes I could see waiter serving other tables with the same dish to people who had walked in after us. (seriously did not understand why?)
The bottomless coke too took a lot of time too be refilled.
All in all it was a very costly affair, but I would step in another time just for their peri-peri and hopefully this time I get the espedata.
