Horrible service for bland food
I am writing this review after get pissed off by the service in Phileas Hogg, First time when we went ,we thought may be today is the issue, but even second /third time it is worse even when there are less people,
Extremely pricey ,like lunch(app, main course) is 500+ without drinks!!, no water,no cleaning of plates, you will have to wait for 15 min for the first menu to show up and food will take any where from 45 min+, even bill will take 20+ min to show up !!
Horrible exp for the taste less, spice less sweetish food .
Never going there again!!!
I have been to this place a handful of times. The first time that I visited this place, I came back super impressed. However, on the past couple of occasions, the service has been a bit slack. The food however has thankfully remained good. They have one of the most diverse menus that I have ever seen with a mix of a lot of cuisines. The veg items on the menu are quite good as well and their combo of daal makhni and naan is a must have. I have not had the courage to have the Hogg burger but I must say the regular burger is pretty neat. Meal for two would probably cross the 1000 rupee mark.
Great food and great ambience
This place scores a perfect ten on ten in terms of food, ambience, service and overall experience. The steaks are delicious and portions of food are big. If you're going there with someone with not much of an appetite, then be prepared to help them finish of their order. The interiors, which are based on the inside of a train are great. The staff is very nice and even an unreasonable demand will be met with an extremely polite denial.
Each dish tastes like it is supposed to
We had a team lunch and we just could not stop eating. We ordered a non-veg platter and there were 6 different Kababs in that! Someone ordered veg Kakori Kabab and you could smell the flavour of fresh paneer. I had a Chicken Steak and the taste was really yum. Someone else had ordered minced chicken cooked in wine and it was just amazing. The mocktails were just amazing and I could feel a subtle flavour change with every layer I finished. The beer was more chilled than that of Purple Haze below it.
The theme of old Rail coach and a ship deck was well received. The bar is a tad expensive but the food price is just about right when compared to the quality. This is a great place for not very large teams and even couples.
Phileas Hog was suggested to me by Poshvine ( they do real time reservations for restaurants and offer discounts), must say a good choice. They offer a variety of cuisines from all around. The ambiance of the place is again very cool and chilled out. Will definitely visit this place again.
Ps- Poshvine offers 25% off at this place :)
The best burgers in town
I have been on an epic quest for the most succulent delectable burgers in bangalore. Who would've imagined that the place would be so close to me?
I have searched far and wide, and I can tell you with unwavering confidence, the HoggBurger kicks ass!!
It's got pickles, lettuce, mushrooms, egg, bacon, cheese and the most delicious patty ever... all stacked into a formidable adversary. My only problem with this king among burgers is that once you embark on the taste explosion that is this lovely creation, you must leave all thought of proper table manners behind and revert to the days of yore. There is no way to eat this burger without making a complete mess. But the good news is that it tastes so damned good that you won't care either way.
Have had this burger over a dozen times and I must say, it is the best blr has to offer burgerwise.
Went to Phileas Hogg last weekend and was downright disappointed.Had heard a lot about the place but it fell short. Firstly the service was bad. I got a torn menu and the server forgot to serve water or put the cutlery on the table. We ordered Hummus and baba Ghanoush platter and although the pita bread was hot and soft , both the Hummus and baba ghanoush were ice cold and had absolutely no flavour . I could not taste the chick peas in hummus nor the eggplant in baba ghanoush.
Later i had ordered a Saffron Risotto but to my horror it was flavoured with turmeric to give the saffron color . It was so evident that it put me off instantly. They also did not use any of the Arborio, Baldo, Carnaroli, Padano, Roma, or Vialone Nano rice for the dish and it remained a half cooked creamy rice porridge.
I assume the spread is way too large for them to cater and they have standard preparations which they try to fill in various cuisines which is a horror....the only saving grace was the fresh lime soda and the hot pita bread.....rest was bad.....
Was at Phileas Hogg on Saturday with a few friends finally. Had heard a lot of good things about the restaurant. We tried the Lamb galauti, prawn tempura and the orange chicken and found each one to be excellent. Our main course was the pasta, chelo kabab, grilled chicken and the nalli nihari. Fantastic is what I have to say, probably the best restaurant in the marathalli area. Great value for money with an expansive menu.
Need more options with the desserts though. Overall a stupendous experience with a nice creative decor and we are already planning our next stop at Phileas Hogg.
Back after eons and the food still rocks!!!
I was back at Phileas Hogg after a layoff of over 5 months with a few friends last Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the most of my favourites tasted just the same........"AWESOME". i am amazed at the consistency of the guys there and find it a bit surprising to read other reviews stating the quality of food???
Loved the A-la-Kiev and the burgers.....the galauti was very good and the the khow suey was heavenly.Tried the chelo for the first time and found it quite flavourful and nice....but again.....we need some desserts after a meal like that.......come on guys......whip up something HOGGISH
Will be back this weekend with Family!!......LOVE THE PLACE
Nightmare Strikes @ Phileas Hogg
Had been there for dinner after reading the reviews. But to my surprise, it was a terrible experience. We ordered Kakori kabab for starter n it tasted horrible n the quantity was like peanuts (just 3 kababs).
Then came the main course.
1. Steak: It was stone cold n over-cooked. The quantity was super disappointing.
2. Chicken A La Keiv: Was dripping in oil. The quantity was sooooo less.
3. Grilled Fish: It was not grilled but deep fried. Called the waiter and he said grilled was not available. So they got us fried fish. Why on earth did they ever take the order of grilled fish when it was not available? Got it changed to Chicken A King and it tasted simply terrible and
the quantity was super sad.
And for 1600/- for the entire meal (including 3 cocktails), no value for money what-so-ever. Never again Phileas Hogg. Never again!!!
Terrible service & food does not make up for it
I have two words for you-Don't go!.
THE GOOD: (a) Ambience; (b) Drink variety; (c) Dessert.
THE BAD: (a) Slow service; (b) Starters served without cutlery despite reminders; (c) Water served after starters
THE UGLY: (a) Wine served with A FLY in it. (b) Replaced the wine but not apologetic enough to not charge for it.
Maybe it was a bad Friday for them but it was WORSE for us. Not going back!!!
Caution : Renovation in progress
We went over last weekend (28th), and found the building is in absolute disaster state, right from the life area. Lift was not working and the building was in dilapidated state. Horrible. Ofcourse the better part was the food and service.
But I was not amused when the bill did not consider Amex selects offer (which is also mentioned here in burrp).
Amazing Food | Great Service | Value for Money
I had been to Hogg last week, and I should say the ambience is very nice. The food is really good, and like others have already mentioned - the servings are huge :). The service was pretty good, didn't feel like they took long to serve the food. They probably are working on improving their service - this is good.
The managers "Ritesh & Arish" are very courteous and friendly - they come around to ensure you are well taken care and fed. You should visit this place for sure.
If Mr Hogg went exploring around the word at the pace his name-sake restaurant serves, i'm afraid he wouldn't really've gotten around much.
Was working from home last friday, so decided to take the opportunity to visit the place for lunch with wife and kids. The place was full of big office groups out for friday lunch but found one empty table. The menu had a wide selection of conti / indian/ oriential/mexican fare, which always makes me suspicious and wary. Anway, we went ahead and ordered. The salad came in relatively quick time but then the wait began. After multiple reminders to the staff and then finally to the manager, the food started trickling in - with a gap of about 15 minutes between each dish (with my modest cheese burger being the last). The food was fairly average - the beef burger patty badly overlooked and hard as a cow's hide, the pasta had way too much cheese in the sauce though the oriental fish was fairly OK.
The good thing was that the manager was profusely apologetic about the delay (said it was due to some breakdown in the kitchen) and gave us a complimentary appetizer and a dessert (which was a life-saver since i had to leave behind most of my burger) - the one extra star in the rating is for that.
Good Food , Huge Serving Sizes , Little Slow
It was a good experience. food was good with lots of variety. good value for money.parking at your own risk.everybody enjoyed the buffet lunch.desert variety not there but after a superb starter, we were almost full to take the main course .you can visit it for sure.
Thr are very few places in blore which have such relaxed ambience, good service and amazing food. This place gives the best continental dishes. Been here a number of times and it sets a new limit everytime. I love the grilled chicken with my choice of pepper sauce specially. Even their drinks menu is great and reasonably priced. Recommend for a quiet dinner.
Decent food, slow service
I've been here twice and both the times, the food has been upto the mark. However, both the times the service has been extremely slow. During the last outing, the service was so slow that I saw 4 batches of people getting up and leaving during service - they still had to wait 20mins at the counter to close their bills! Frankly the place seemed understaffed. Recommended only if they improve the service!
Service par excellence!
Imagine a scenario..
You are at work and you are craving for a Steak. You call up Philleas Hogg and order for a steak. I send my driver over to pick it up. There is a minor glitch...which was actually a BIG glitch!
Could u imagine having a steak without a steak knife?! I was distraught.
Guess what?! The guys over at the restaurant were kind enough to send their expensive cutlery with the steak!! THE STEAK WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!
I say these kind actions make the restaurant special. Its the kind of place where you know ur being given the best.
Phileas Hogg...is THE place! Highly recommended!
Good value for money
It's good value for money, at least whatever I've tasted (which would only be dishes from the european/continental section). My friend had a penne pasta in white sauce with green vegetables, I ordered a beef in Burgundy sauce with mushrooms. We also had lime sodas, sweet and salty, and I packed up a shepherd's pie and took it home
The pasta sauce was really scrumptious, unfortunately my friend had suddenly decided to turn vegetarian, otherwise, it was just crying out loud for some nice smoky bacon. My beef in burgundy sauce was AWESOME, with nice small pieces, and a generous amount of mushrooms. The mashed potatoes were just right, crisp on top, soft below, buttery with a touch of pepper which went well with the sauce. The shepherd's price was pretty good too.
Decor wise it's got nice pictures, to go with the concept. What I really liked was the relaxed atmosphere...we went at a time when nobody was around, and the waiters let us take 3 hrs over a simple lunch :). Typical Bangalore :)
This seems to have got mixed reviews, but the continental section is highly recommended. It's comparatively cheap as well.. Only minus point is that it's in Marathahalli, and it's adrag to go there from Koramangala :(
Good Food and excellent taste
Me and My friend decided to try something different on a weekend afternoon . On looking out in Burrp, finally decided to go for this..This restaurant is above purple haze in marthahalli ... Nice ambiance and the menu was completely different with quiet good short details on the food ..That helped us to choose the food ...the food came after 20 min exactly said in the menu..(some items are described with time taken for serving after the order)...went for bugrandy (chicken soaked in a gravy overnight )this was served with smashed potatos..This is the first time i am tasting the different chicken variety and it melted in my mouth...it was so soft..my friend who would never eat more that two small piece was competing with me :) ...bit expensive ..but the taste worth the money...
Super food, super place!
still can't get over the meal... we started off with their signature cocktails called passepartout (hot!) & around the world along with some kakori kababs & garlic n wasabi prawns - mama mia! just the right consistency and the perfect amount of wasabi in the prawns... ordered a couple corona's and tucked into the raan e hogg - never had better (the only one that comes anywhere close is the one they used to serve at the royal afghan at windsor manor)... too full by this time but had to try the beef burgundy - tender n full of flavour served with the creamiest mashed potatoes... the waiter recommended the whole wheat date n walnut cake but it just seemed too much at the time... the ambience was great and the pricing was unbelievably reasonable for such awesome food & portions... heading back this weekend!
Great food and service
I visited this place for dinner yesterday, and I must say that I am really impressed. We ordered a satay, an american, an Italian and a Chinese dish. While the satay was just ok, the other dishes were really good and had good quantity. The service was also good and the place was neat. So, I would recommend this place to anyone who likes meat. For 3, the average price of the meal came to Rs300/- without alcohol.
Excellent....and still improving!!!
Was there again for the 7th time in just over 3 months and the food was as always....fantabulous!! Tried a few of their signature coctails....flavourful and potent...just the way cocktails should be!! It was a welcome change from the normally watered down drinks that most restaurants serve.
We tried the hot pot soup.....very nice!I tried the grilled fish this time round!! Mildly flavoured with a rich and creamy lemon butter sauce....excellent!! The Raan e Hogg was just yummy. One of my friends tried the fully loaded Hogg burger....the guy almost ate his fingers!
I guess we just love this place and everytime we come back the food just keeps getting better!!
Kudos team Hogg!!....way to go!! Will be back for more soon....
not worth a visit for continental food,
we hit this place for a quick bite on a weekday afternoon. We tried beef burgundy and fish wt lemon butter sauce ....
The fish was dead long before it hit our palte and the oil used was cheap, the sauce was sour and while asked, they waiter said the chf used lemon generously and also admited while poruing lemon juice, he had overdone it
people in shabby clothes move to and fro
Beef burgundy tasted like indian curry wit onion, mushroom and small chunks of beef
no salt/spice in mashed potato and it was from freezer
The waiter was rude, gotta call him humpty times to give an update on the food and water was not refilled even after humptt reqyest
finly the great chef arrived and said no he did not make a mistake and the fish was fresh
i told taht the waiter told an another story
to top it all, they gave complementary icecream, we rejected it, payed the bill and waleked out
My verdict : not worth a visit for continental food, fusion indian food in continental in continental name ........ with confused and RUDE STAFF
Not gonna visit this place again.........
wow all the way!!
we went to phileas hogg for dinner last weekend and the experience was perfect on all counts.
although the flight of stairs up is not so flattering, once you step inside you are welcome to a pleasant looking place. the ambiance is pretty warm, and no i am not talking about the absence of air conditioning here :)
they have a pretty interesting menu, with a varied global cuisine on offer.
we started off with a chicken hariyali kabab. the chicken was tender and juicy, and we finished it in no time!
for the mains, we ordered a grilled chicken and a chicken makhani (this comes with 3 mini naans). we opted for french fries instead of the mashed potatoes for the side with the grilled chicken. the sauce was excellent and went perfectly with the chicken. the fries could not be flawed either. all in all an excellent dish.
moving to the chicken makhani, all i can say is that this chicken gravy would give any popular north indian restaurant a run for its money. this was absolutely perfect!! it was so good that we totally ignored the dal makhani that came alongside.
we skipped the dessert as we were too full by then.
based on my first visit, i completely agree with another reviewer here who has said that this is the best restaurant in marathahalli. we'd be back to try out the other stuff on the menu and i am hoping that the experience turns out as perfect!
Decent..could be better
Went on a friday nite, Fairly Ok for the price
Tried their special cocktail which was good as well as the soup, Chicken Satay was fine.
Main course - Pizza pie was delicious,Club sandwich had adequate portions,Keema Pav was tangy
Skipped the dessert.
Cuisine - Wide range to choose ,Dishes were served in reasonable timeframe
The not so good
Nachos did not have sufficient cheese.Tacos/Burritos did not have sufficient flavor.
I wonder why none of the dishes were hot atleast warm to say the least.Service was ordinary nothing to really talk about.
A happy Snapdeal customer
Went to Phileas Hogg with Snapdeal vouchers.Interesting decor. Very nice appetizers, especially their versions of nachos and Buffalo Wings. We also tried their steak in pepper sauce with stirfried veggies. Very nice presentation and lovely sauces. One suggestion would be to provide a bread basket. A very nice and relaxed experience overall.
One of the best in Bangalore!!!!
This is our third visit to Phileas Hogg and the food just keeps getting better!! Kudos to the team at the Hogg to keep up this amazing consistency with all their dishes (with a menu that spans across European, American, Indian and the Oriental cuisines
.I seriously wonder how)!!! We have tried out the various cuisines on offer and we firmly believe that Phileas Hogg is the best restaurant around the Marathalli/ Belandur area. Their burgers are definitely the best in town
..I would rate them way higher than the ones at Hard Rock as well. The Khow Suey is right up there with the best
enormously flavorful and delicious. The Raan e Hogg, I am told is marinated for a whopping 72 hours
and every bite of the raan lets you savour all the delectable spices in the marinade
.incredible dish. The continental fare is just stupendous
though we would like a few more options with our pastas. The only flaw in the experience is that the restaurant is tricky to find (nestled in the fourth floor also makes it quite warm during the summer)
I have been told by my foodie circle that the Indian and Oriental fare is really good as well with my experience so far, I am not surprised!! (Thats one for my next visit?) The Bar also serves up some delightful cocktails along with the regular fare.
Overall the food and the ambience has been spot on .and as residents of Marathalli, we hope that the restaurant keeps serving up this truly exciting fare!!
Cheers to Phileas Hogg ..the freshest restaurant in town.
Love their continental menus and the starters are a delight really - especially the potato bundle.
The pastas are very well cooked - overall good value for the slightly expensive money you pay.
The ambience is totally new and well made and the service is very good and friendly.
Definite YES for not-so-large official eat-outs.
I am all for trying new places, so thought will try this firang sounding place. It has an interesting decor, they have segregated the tables with maps, that looks nice.
Now the bad part, there is no a/c which is fine considering bangalore weather but there is almost no ventilation, gets stuffy even at night with 22 degrees. Menu is interesting but the food is stale, bland, cooked in bad oil and leaves a horrible aftertaste. Wish there were better options on outer ring road and they need to focus on food more than decor.
Loved the Ambience
Passepartout. The name did the trick. That is the drink I tried, blended beautifully with Chillies and Vodka.Loved how the theme has been played out. The Hummus was really good and considering this was not an exclusive mediterranean outlet, totally loved it. The music playing was soothing yet vibrant and food was well served and yum. All in All, I had a wonderful evening and am really looking forward to my next visit there. Definitely a MUST GO
I visited this place last weekend with a few friends and we had a terrible experience from the get-go. Firstly, the elevator wasn't working so we had to trudge up to the 4th floor. Next, the service staff were demotivated and seemed pre-occupied - perhaps because of the stifling heat of the place (no A/C). When we were able to place our orders and the food finally arrived it was virtually inedible. The meat was bordering on spoiling and the sauces were lacklustre. To make matters worse, one of our group had a bad case of food poisoning. I would not recommend this place to anyone! A big double thumbs-down!
Mediocre ambience, poor service
Our experience in this restaurant last week was very bad. In spite of the late hours (10:00 pm), the restaurant was warm, there was no A/C, which I think is because it is on the roof top (btw, I wonder whether the whole construction on the roof top is legal; but yeah, we are in Blore :-)
In order to avoid intermediate delays which essentially kills the appetite, we ordered our starters and main-course together. But to our disappointment, after we finished our starters (30 min after we placed the order), the waiter came and checked with us the main course menu. And then it took another 40 minutes for the main-course to arrive, all this is in spite of the fact that only two tables were occupied.
This has been a bad experience and we have decided not to go to this place again.
Great theme & ambience, decent food
Visited this place on the eve of the BBMP polls (a 'dry' night). But that didn't shrivel our dinner experience when it came to the overall experience. The place is located opp. the innovative multiplex, and is above Yo China and Purple Haze. The reataurant's theme, based on the travels of Mr.Fogg, is delightful, and there certainly seems to have been some thought behind this venture. So there's a part of the restaurant that's shaped like the bow of a ship, while another portion gives you the feeling of sitting inside a railway coach (not the shattered, roach infested on our govt gives us, these are far better).
Food wise, from the byline, you can guess that they serve multi cuisine. I'm always a little wary of these 'multi-cuisine' places as more often that not they end up botching the whole thing up. Not entirely true in this case. From the starters we had, the galouti kabab was good, but Minestrone soup was very uninspiring and blah. The satay tasted good, but it certainly wasn't grilled but pan-fried. The pizza-pie was a nice inclusion in the menu, and the chicken and bacon in it cerainly made the dish well worth the 25 min wait (mentioned in the menu).
For the mains, we tried a variety of dishes: Macher jol, Burgundy steak, Khow Suey, and Seafood risotto. The risotto was a disaster - dry, hard, and totally tasteless. The macher jol tasted nice, but seemed to be heavily tomato-based, and was deep red instead of yellow (which is what I expected it to be). The khow suey, a noodle dish from Burma was fantastic. It's served with 6 bowls of different condiments like garlic, coriander, chilies, etc. Not only was this exotic, but it was actually good. The burgundy steak was also nice, but what we loved about it was the mash that was served with it. Creamy and delightful!
For desserts, they had strawberry souffle, orange souffle and fried ice cream (among the speacial dishes). Unfortunately, orange had run out, and so strawberry and the fried ice cream it was. Both were ok. Overall, great ambience, while in the food department, while some dishes were terrific, there needs some work to be done on some of the dishes.

Worth a Try...
We went there yesterday after lunch hour, almost in the evening. Even then they allowed us. Nice of them :-)
The setting was different and food was good. Service was fast. Cost was reasonable. Food Quantity was good.
I had these items.
Mocktail (Mixed Fruit Mojito) - Good
Garlic Bread - Good, but can be better
Veg Cutlet - Very Good
Grilled Chicken with Pepper Sauce - Very Good
Downsides: There was no A/C. The restaurant was in 4th floor, and lift was not working. However I can excuse these small -ves for the +ve food :-)
Totally worth checking out this one!
We always had the gripe that there weren't many decent eateries around where we live and the closest we can find good choice of food would be Indiranagar!..Well, I'm delighted to announce 'not anymore'! Having discovered this totally chic place next to 'yo china' on Ring Road (where the very mediocre Ristorant Italia used to be) I am totally happy!
Phileas Hogg is a neat lil roof top eatery with a comfortable decor and boasts of a truly 'global' menu...right from Indonesian, vietnamese to the more popular italian, mexican items.
Since we were there for d first time, we didn't want to be too experimentative and decided to go safe. I settled for grilled fish and my husband ordered a grilled chicken. The food came looking and smelling delicious with a generous splattering of lemon butter sauce. The portion was just right and both our grills came with sauted veggies n mashed potatoes. My fish was crusty on the top and fleshy inside, just the way I like it and my husband's chicken too was succulent. We simply loved the food and regretted not having ordered something more fancy. Next time for sure.
Wait staff was friendly and smiling...totally worth visiting guys!
Went there yesterday. The food was good, and more importantly unique. Most of the dishes we tried out had an unique taste, including the chinese!! Ambiance and service also deserve 5 star rating. And the rates are very reasonable, and offers a very good value for money.
Now the bad part - no a/c!!! and that's the only fact that can ruin the otherwise good experience. i went there on a Sunday afternoon the temperature was already 30+. Given the fact that temperature of Bangalore is fast reaching Delhi's levels, this is one point they should seriously consider.
Nice ambience, good food
Celebrated a birthday with family at Phileas Hogg. Great ambience and good food. Service takes a while and they had already run out of some of the dishes we wanted to try out - so by the time we got our main course, the kids were almost dropping off to sleep. The continental menu, starters and salads were good stuff. Prices are ok. A weekend buffet menu would be a nice option. All in all - a good experience!
