Best Place for Breakfast !
This is the best place to have a simple stupendous south Indian breakfast consisting of idli, vada, dosa, khara bath and kesari bath with a hot cup of coffee or tea. This is a self service type small eating joint and do not expect good ambience. You have to stand in a queue and buy coupons for food most of the times, especially in the mornings. Then you have to eat standing. But the tasty food and courteous staff will make you forget this inconvenience. I simply love this place for a simple but fabulous breakfast!
have been a regular here for the last 5years....
delicious idly vade and chutney is so tasty and tangy that you wont and dont get to taste any where else....chutney is trademark....
they spoil the sambar by adding cloves though its healthy...
kharabath and masale dose are also done in their unique flavour
coffee and tea after any combinations of the above leaves you completely satisfied
The Best Idli, Vada, Sambar and MD
The best Idli, Vada, sambar, and MASALA Dosa in south Bangalore
Coffee is amazing. By default, they provide a strong brew.
Very fast service. Clean place(look at/under the dosa stove)
Food is reasonably priced. Worth every rupee.
Friendly Staff (This is important to me....Other places like Udupi Krishna
Bhavan near forum mall have RUDE, IMPATIENT, ARROGANT cashiers)
Tip: Visit on weekday mornings when there is a lesser crowd compared
All hype no content
This place has been widely touted as a old & authentic breakfast hangout. I was drawn to this place after reading an old review in Deccan Herald and hearing about this place from a few friends.
Firstly, this place is located on a small but busy street. With very little standup place, you are pretty much on the road amidst the noise & vehicles while having your food. It might be quieter on weekends though.
Now for the food. I feel that the true taste of any breakfast joint is in the idli and the coffee. Right?
But this place really falls flat on these 2 areas. The idli was hot but that is all I can write about it. Sambar ok. Chutney - salty coconut water. Coffee - all I can say is I have had better in Bangalore. Maybe the dosas and various bhaths are good. After a bad idli and avg coffee, will I be willing to try? Probably not.
Mind you, this place is crowded and I even saw Girish Karnad at this joint. But I am saying that let us not fall for the celebrities-visit-this-place-so-it-must-be-good syndrome. Maybe it was good once upon a time. But hype survives longer than quality and sadly enough, Bangaloreans are not the best judges of taste. The abundance of restaurants doing good business while serving overly priced avergae food is testimony to my claim.
SN Refreshments is cheap, conveniently located for those in the vicinity but average in taste.
