Burgundy's - Unacceptable Quality of Food...

Of all the restaurants we have been wanting to try out in Chennai, we chose Burgundy"s to dine out on my husbands birthday. Though there were mixed reviews about this place, we decided to give it a shot hoping our experience might turn out to be one of those good ones...
Little did we know that my husband and I would be hunting for mouth fresheners at 11 pm on his birthday to get over the taste of what Burgundy"s had treated us with.
I still cannot think of one dish which was close to average in taste or quality on their buffet spread. Though their spread was reasonably huge, we felt that the menu was very carelessly designed for a multi-cuisine buffet spread.
Cold food, oily gravies, shabby presentation, a hassled environment the waiters created because of discussions within themselves, unappealing dessert counter are a few phrases which could describe the place.
We would have put up with all the above thinking its been one bad day for us if only we wouldn't have located those two COCKROACHES... One near the buffet spread and the other near their billing/computer table. Disgusting is not the word! Then we stopped eating and got desperate to get out of the place.
Thankfully, they didn't remember to surprise my husband with their complementary cake which I had requested for while I was making our reservations.
On our way back home, my husband and I were in deep discussion about how certain restaurants lose their charm in no time. We would have been happier having a content meal in an old restaurant like Rajasthani Dabba (Anna Nagar) or Opel Inn (Nungambakkam) who according to us understand the value of being consistent.
The groupon deal did save us a few bucks but we were still at a loss of a thousand three hundred of our hard earned money and some quality time spent on a special day.

Food with Spread

Best food I ever seen in and around Chennai restaurants at the time of high prices in the country. Large spread with varied cuisines. Would like to suggest my colleagues to be regular over here.

Poor Food Quality...No Value for Money

This place used to serve good food. I had been there about a year back. I was there last week and the food quality and taste is nothing to write home about. Avoid this place...No value for money (even with the groupon coupon).

Poor Customer Service

Had lunch on 22/3/14 afternoon. The experience was appalling as the host at the entrance did not attend to us, kept us waiting while he was constantly on the phone. He was rude and treated us as a second class citizen and threw his attitude around. I was using a Groupon coupon and booked a table for 3 + 2 kids, but the person who took the booking reserved for only for 3 people and the host insisted that I pay for my kids, but I explained to him that Groupon coupon clearly mentioned that free for under 5, which he refused to agree and I had to literally show the voucher details on my Ipad and at this point I told him to get someone from the management in person or phone but the host said that the management preferred not to be disturbed. So I emailed
Vipin Sachdev, Managing Director to give a run down of the experience but still haven't got any reply. On the positive note I had a great time at Tuscana Nungambakkam, which is run by the same management team.

No Longer a Restaurant Worth Spending Money At

I had been to this restaurant several times when it was managed by Mr. Vipin, really nice guy who I think owned the restaurant and I remember everything then being awesome, food, service. But this time it was a different story - not sure if management's changed. We walked in and asked the guy at the desk(later learnt that he was the manager) if they had a table for two and he just walked away without saying a word. Five minutes later he comes back into sight and starts conversing with another customer at a table nearby. He then sets up a table and waves his hand to call us there. He didn't even care to greet us. Not even a smile. And then when I handed out the voucher this is what he told us - "If you don't have groupon voucher, then you don't need to reserve a table. But if you have a groupon, then you should reserve at least 5 days in advance to save embarrassment for yourself and harassment by us. " Harassment? Really? By the way the restaurant was empty on a Sunday night 8:30 pm ~ 10:00 pm. The whole time we were there. Max three other tables occupied. They call themselves 5 star and there wasn't even a napkin on the table, only cheap tiny paper tissue. They served bhel puri for starters in a common bowl in the center without giving us a plate. Just fork & spoon - go dig it! And it took us about 5 to 10 minutes each time to even get the attention of any waiter forget the time they took to respond. Buffet food was cold and was tasteless. It's just all beautifully adds up to the 5-star experience. We could count only two waiters working there that night. Won't complain about them because I felt they did their job at their best. And they at least cared to smile.

Overall, I have managed to laugh away that horrible experience and "harassment" at Burgundy restaurant for not booking 5 days in advance for a "Buffet Dinner" for two. And why would I care to go back? Why waste money for a now third grade service when there are plenty of new restaurants to check out. Such a downfall for a once an awesome restaurant.

Tip to you - Save yourself some embarrassment and harassment by this new manager :P

And a word to the senior management - wake up and take control of your reputation before it's too late. I am already hesitant to check out your other restaurants in the city which I honestly liked. Hope the management over there hasn't changed.

Dinner at Burgundy's

It was one of those rare occasions when we planned to go out and our teenage daughter, home from hostel, had the time to join us. As always, the prelude was a big discussion, which daughter took out of our hands and decided on Burgundy’s.
We were impressed from the word ‘go’. The location is good, the ambiance is lovely. We loved the decor and the stained glass. The seating was really comfortable and made for a very relaxed and happy meal.
We ordered the Sate with Chicken strips marinated in soy sauce, honey and red chillies. I think it had a small portion of the yummiest baked rice. The chicken itself was perfectly cooked… tender and succulent. We were being nice to each other and sharing, while secretly hoping the other would refuse
Next was the Pizza baked with tomato or pesto sauces, mozzarella cheese, oregano and chilli flakes with chicken, onion and mushrooms. Now, my husband does not like onions and we requested them to avoid this. The thin crust was nice, but since I am partial to the normal crust, I was a tad let down. The blend of chicken and cheese was lovely. The pesto was divine. ( I would have liked a bit more chicken in the pizza though).
Smoked chicken penne pasta with cream sauce,
sun-dried tomatoes and button mushrooms… this was lovely. The blend of flavours, smoked chicken and the cream sauce was perfect. The penne pasta was cooked just right. The serving was very liberal. We just devoured the lot!!
Now, the waiting staff was what I look for in restaurants…. Friendly, helpful, pleasant, discreet and very thoughtful. They were very gentle when laying out the dishes and didn’t bend right over us to lay or clear the dishes and cutlery. This is something I miss in a lot of places in Chennai…. The staff is usually very “in-your-face” and a little rough when laying out the dishes.
After all this, we really had no place for the dessert .
The pricing is certainly high but worth it I would say.
All in all, I would rate our dinner at Burgundy’s very high indeed.

Good but could have been better!

We have always wanted to check out Burgandy's, particularly because its one of Chef Willi's restaurants; We had the lunch buffet on Dec 22, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian were priced at around Rs. 600 had a lot of variety.

We were accommodated at a table in a corner that didn't have any waiter's attention!

Soups and starters were offered to be served to/at/on the table, and to our surprise, only one mediocre starter - chicken deep fry / vegetable stir fry - came our way.

The salad spread was quite diverse, but didn't have anything outstanding or exceptional.

The main course was extensive (but served cold) with regulars such as noodles, manchurian, biryani / pulao, kofta and the like. What really caught my attention was the four kinds of (delicious) dal.

The desserts were such a disappointment. The pastries were dry and tasted like stuff we'd probably get at 'Ganapathy Iyer Bakery'! The chocolate sauce and caramel were my only consolation.

To sum up, the experience was good but could have certainly been better considering it's one of Willi's.

Excellent!

Burgundy’s at Somerset, is a gem packed away at a beautiful serviced apartment building. The atmosphere was lovely with fountains outdoors and a lovely lawn that the outdoor seating overlooked. We chose to have our table inside as the buffet was closer. The variety was astonishing, we did not know where to start. There was a wide salad counter with different interesting salads such as potatoes with beetroot and melons, which is something I haven’t tried before. The starters were brought to our tables, which included chaat, a stir fried chicken dish and a vegetarian tartlet. The main course was extravagant, but everything I sampled tasted good and well made. The dessert section was good too but I was so full after the main course that I gave it a pass. Good value for money and definitely recommend this place. Come with an empty stomach to make the most of the buffet. Also the children’s play area outside is a good distraction for the kids, and lets you enjoy your meal thoroughly.

Hi Vipin, your Burgundy rocked. What a soothing experience it was with eight of my friends. You name it, the ambiance , spread and the service all matched our mindset along with our taste buds. I am sure with such an experience can turn the group from 8 to 80. A compliment from we girls that it shows what passion you have to run Burgundy at the standards that you have set :)

Best Trip To India (Real experience of a guest)

Travelling to India has always been horrific mostly because of the food; somehow I always ended up spending more time in the toilet. This trip I was initially still skeptical but thankfully I had a great experience at Burgundy's. Staying at the Somerset serviced apartments, I spent most of my time at Burgundy's relishing amazing food where Chef Karthik made sure he took immense care of me. The staff too is very friendly and helpful.
This trip I enjoyed Indian food, European food, Chinese and American food and not to mention the sights and work too. Cannot wait to be back.

Wonderful Ambiance. Worth Visiting

Unforgettable Kitty Party.
Yes friends my sister in law at Chennai got the best deal to organize her kitty party lunch at Burgundy’s, as she booked 15 days in advance and paid only Rs 370 net per person. I tagged along with my sister in law as I was visiting Chennai from Delhi. The service was great, they joined our tables since it was 14 of us and we enjoyed a lavish multi-cuisine buffet spread. Since the food service was already taken care of the kitty friends got to concentrate on the more important things they had to discuss. Every one also made use of the “Take a seat, Know your friend” that they have there and all of us took chances to get in and get to know each other better. It was a fun experience and I felt even closer to all friends of my sister in law. The place looked great for children too with ample space and swings outside. Sure to visit again and come back for a good time when ever I visit Chennai next. Chennai rocks with Burgundy's.

Burgundy Divine

On a particularly moist night in Chennai, I decided not to stay home but head out to the restaurant everyone was talking about instead. Yes. It was Burgundy’s. Ensconced in a fairly new hotel, Somerset, the restaurant promised to be a surprise.

Leaving the muggy atmosphere outside, I was embraced by a spacious dining experience with soft light and lots of wood.

But the heart of a restaurant always lies in the food, and of course the customer service. The wood-fire pizzas were a first pick, as their reputation preceded them. I ordered spicy pork pepperoni sausage and sliced jalapenos. Just like the description, each slice was a mouthful of meat and cheese heaven.

The Chicken Roulade followed with my absolute favorite accompaniment of Green Olives! Bursting at the seams, I had to order dessert. My meals are never complete without dessert. I ordered a sporty combination of chocolate and coffee that had me sprightly and eager to revisit.

I highly recommend the place for all its facets of ambience, food and service. I believe the Sunday Brunches are not to be missed. Tag along next Sunday!

Lovely Meal And Service!!

I visited the restaurant with my sister and friends, after going to their other brands Tuscana and Kryptos. We were left extremely pleased at their other restaurants so we decided to stick with what we knew would be good. I had the buffet there while my friend ordered a pasta from the a la carte menu. The Indian food from the buffet tasted delicious though I stopped after a while as I am not used to spices in Indian food, but the flavors were undeniably aromatic and appetizing. The service at Burgundy's is truly outstanding, where the servers are courteous and attentive. We had a lovely time at Burgundy's and also enjoyed watching small children run around in the garden and play area with big smiles.

I used to feel that Chennai was bit losing its charm when it comes to quality diners and service. Got to know Burgundy's through a business proposal and waited quite some the time for operations to begin. Food , ambiance , service , I grade it well to the times with glorious Chennai. Perfect for quick business brunches, serene family dinners , lovely concoctions.

Above all , its from the pros.

Burgundy – A Complete Malfunction

How can a restaurant function with everything from starters to deserts and service being a disaster?
I cannot genuinely recommend or go back to this place again:
1. There were no starters for vegetarians except the paneer.
2. The waiter just forgot to serve the soup, by the time we asked him repeatedly and he served it when we moved to the main course.
3. The waiter refused to customize the pizza, and said we have a standard pattern of making it. Is’nt this a 5 star restaurant?
4. The place seemed very unorganised and under staffed, waiter was absolutely impatient to stand for a minute and lend their ears to what we wanted.
5. The musk melon was not even ripe, it was not edible. Is’nt this atrocious?
6. Spent more than Rs 1000 per person, absolute waste of time, money.
To sum it all up
• Very bad management of the place
• Under staffed
• Not great food
• No value for money

Bad start and worst experience

Worst experience (Spoiled the partying mood right at the restaurant entrance by some --------) we ever had in a five star hotel, that is no manner in which to treat a customer. I have never seen any high-class hotel with a cheap way of approach a customer. There is inequality in approach (Well! Ladies, you will be treated well as like other places and sorry for gents). The deal, which they provide during every dinner, is just cheating, (buy one and get one free, but at the end you will be billed for both and your head will also be shaved). Ambiance is good but the rest is terrible. Will never recommend to any of my corporate colleagues and friends.

Classy

It is amazing how much has gone into designing this place. The interiors are stunning and the place is just huge. There is not much of a difference in the menu between the Lunch and Dinner buffets ( maybe the Pizza and the price difference), but the spread is very well though out. The starters are good and the service is prompt when needed. Desserts need to be looked into though. There is nothing that catches my eye in that segment. But otherwise Kudos to Vipin and Co. Love their restaurants.

Never eat at Burgundy's

DISCLAIMER : I'm not a wise world traveler, nor a food critic, nor am I an expert on anything that requires a gas stove. But I can microwave the hell out of anything.

Short version :

Absolutely Terrible Food.
Save yourself the trouble and dine somewhere else. Trust me, your wife's / mother's / mother-in-law's cooking is much better. (No intended discrimination to men.) The ambiance is nothing great and the pricing in my opinion is high. Service can be better. Management is poor. Did I mention the food is atrocious?

The Whole Story :

Up until about 3-4 weeks ago I had never been to Burgundy's and the general word of mouth is that it’s a decent place at a swanky location. I’ve read a few bad reviews but I’m the kind of person who like to find out for himself, so I landed up there with a few friends, most of whom had never eaten from there before.

Starters :

We asked for prawn satays - They didn't have it. We asked for Lamb Satays - They didn't have it. We ordered the only non-veg satays left on the menu - chicken.

The skewered satays arrived at our table cold (read as not hot/warm) covered with a familiar sauce. The first bite told me something was off. The second bite hit me! The sauce which normally is a ground peanut based sauce, was just plain peanut butter!. Now, Wikipedia says peanut butter can be used as a substitute for the ‘main ingredient’, but believe me this was 90% pure retail peanut butter sauce. The damn thing tasted sweet!.

I've had Satays from Singapore & Malaysia as well as other restaurants in Chennai. Not one place has ever served me something like this. We scraped that vile sauce off and ate the meat.

Main Course:

We ordered the beer battered fish on a bed of peas accompanied with chips. The waiter repeated ‘Fish and Chips’ thrice, and we corrected him all three times insisting on the ‘beer’. What arrived was a cold and sorry looking couple of strips of battered fish on a very very healthy bed of peas. The fish was cold. It had no taste and no salt. The batter didn't taste nice, and to top it off there were no chips!. The waiter later informed us that they were out of chips. This was absurd after him have repeated the words ‘fish and chips’ thrice!

Next we ordered a grilled chicken club sandwich layered with bacon, cheese and eggs. What arrived was a fairly small sized 3 layered sandwich without the damn bacon! The waiter then told me that they were out of bacon. Why didn't he tell me this earlier? or in between? Was he waiting for me to discover it so he could give me a gold star on my report card? Or did he just think i’m some dimwit who was born yesterday and could be taken for a ride?

At this point i’m fuming, because i love bacon and i want my bacon! The waiter checked with the kitchen and confirmed the absence of its availability. With disgust I munch into this apology of a club sandwich, only to find that the chicken isn't even grilled! It was nothing more than a tasteless piece of boiled meat. No hot surface had ever touched this meat. I called the waiter, even made him taste it, and yet he’s positive that was was served to me was ‘grilled’. The exterior colour of the chicken was as fair and white as the Queen’s barren bottom! Go Google grilled chicken if you don’t know what it looks like! Ridiculous!

Next we ordered a chicken penne pasta in a cream sauce. This was decent. Nothing really to rave about. Large chunks of vegetables swimming among smaller pieces of meat.

The last thing we ordered was the Dum Biryani, this was the only dish that was good. The rice had a nice flavour and aroma. But this too was not served hot. It wasn't cold either.

What your problem with serving hot food? At least microwave the damn thing before putting it on my table. Are you waiting for me to show you how to microwave it?

Dessert:

They have a exhaustive dessert list on the menu, the most I've seen on any menu in the recent past. It was all for show anyway as they didn't have a single thing on the menu except for the coffee panna cotta ... something. That was only Ok. Thank heavens that desserts are mostly served cold. Again nothing to rave about.

The Verdict :

I will NEVER eat here again nor will I ever recommend Burgundy’s to anyone. I’ll do you one better - From this day forward, anyone I meet that even says the word ‘Burgundy’, i’ll make sure they know what an awful experience I had, even if they were talking to me about the colour of their underwear.

And they will also know that ...

I DID NOT GET MY BACON!

Excellent Service

Mr. Vipin Sachdev and Mr. Mahadevan (Chef) are excellent. I'm a vegan, and do not eat any animal products. Both Mr. Vipin and Mr. Mahadevan came to me personally to ask what I wanted for dinner. Mr. Mahadevan gave me a few choices, veganized some things from the menu, and I had an excellent dinner. Not too many places have the consideration to ensure that their customers receive exactly what they want. I'm definitely going to this place again because of the great service, personalized food and wonderful ambiance.

Delightful spread with fantastic ambience

The main reason why i love this place is its beautiful ambience located centrally in midst of several high raised buildings in the Somerset residence.
The buffet spread is really huge with a wide variety of choices ,esp in Indian cuisine
The last time i visited, the service was equall great with the food cooked the exact way it was supposed to be..
oh btw, if ur going for a late evening dinner, u dont wanna miss out on a drink at B-Bar too

Forced to give 1 star otherwise, it will be zero

Chose this place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I regret that decision every day now. When i reached there, we are welcomed by great ambiance and pleasant atmosphere. We never know that this all will be ruined soon. We were told that the buffet is costing around 1100/- per person, which looked very high to me compared to other front line restaurants. We went very ambitiously to have our food. Looking at the food spread, we felt that it is not worth even 25% of the cost. Soup was good. But after soup, there was nothing. Salads were disappointing, I saw only 1 rice, 2 gravies which was very cold. All that available was pani puri and some chat items. Even, we tried that and found it was too salty and could not take it. This is the first time i saw ice creams, sweets not available in dinner buffet. When enquired, they said they are out of stock. Non veg was very cold, stale and without any taste. Totally, our anniversary is ruined. I am still regretting about going this place and that too on a memorable day.

Quality really gone down/not what it used to be.

I had visited Burgundy's on 16 December with my wife, son, sister and nephews.

I was immensely disappointed with the manners and courtesy shown by your staff. First thing is when we entered the dining area by 12 the receptionist was gloriously joking and chatting away that he didn't even smile or welcome us. Next we were shown a table by some one inside and for 15 minutes no one attended us. Finally I got pissed off and called the manager and asked what the issue was, for which I got a prompt response that the food was not yet fully ready. This was at 1215. Can't your staff exhibit some courtesy and tell us that the food will be late? Then why advertise that you are open from 12? We understand the delay but we expect to be kept informed. Next the quality of most of the dishes were downright bad. To name a few pizza, soup, briyani etc. Lastly I asked for a pint of beer when I started eating and I was never served the same. The server kept defending himself that I never ordered. This is where I wondered about your quality of customer service.

Don't get me wrong but honestly I do not wish to enter your restaurant again because people like to go to a place where they are treated well isn't it? And not like some free loaders. ...

I am typing just to let patrons know how hurt I am first by the treatment and next due to the fact that my favourite restaurant which I have been patronizing for a long time now showed me its true colours. I had to type this here since my Facebook message was read and there was no response what so ever.

If this continues then all the loyal customers will be long gone. And asking a mere sorry and asking people to try again won't bring them back take a cue from similar themed restaurants where they actually do something like offering incentives as a token of appreciation rather than just apologise with words.

Now this is what still makes me go there today, to a place where a customer is respected. And what do you guys have to say?

a huge letdown

having read burgundy's glowing reviews, i booked a table for 10 for our team lunch. we were totally impressed by the decor and the food too was impressive. though the spread was limited, we found each of them to be really nice until we reached the dessert. one of my friend chose a sponge cake from the spread. the moment he cut it, we were shocked to see dead worm inside! Even though the manager apologised profusely and even offered us additional discount, we still could not get over the fact that a place that prides itself on setting the benchmark for quality can do this. we were told that the worm must have dropped from airconditioning vent but it is a lame excuse as the worm was found in the middle of the cake and there is no way the worm drilled into the cake :-) another shocker was serving ice-cream in a paper cup. except for desserts section, everything else was brilliant. i really hope burgundy's pay attention to desserts section too as there is nothing else to complain about.

Good food coupled with pleasing ambience

What do you get when you throw in bright interiors , lush landscape , a sit out/ patio type and multicuisine food ...you get Burgundy's :) We visited Burgundy's after seeing lots of reviews on metro plus and our very own facebook and let me tell you we weren't disappointed at all. Perched in upscale MRC Nagar next to Chettinad school is Burgundys. The bright chic restaurant with its neatly laid buffet counter immediately drew our attention. After a short debate we decided to opt for a la carte. The menu comprises of continental , north and south Indian dishes along with beverages ,mocktails, etc . The buffet spread is also quite extensive with live counters and plenty of desserts. We ordered french baguette garlic bread for starters and it had the perfect amount of cheese and flavour. .our main course comprised of samosa styled burger and subz biriyani. The burger with samosa pieces stufed inside gave a nice Mumbai street food taste. the biriyani was also quite rich with steaming hot koftas cooked along with it. We washed it down with a lime based mint cooler. There is also an option to be seated outdoors under the moonlit sky. A perfect place for a date , an anniversary or a catch up session with friends. The price is little on the higher side but the varieties and ambience make up for it. Burgundy's it is if you are looking for a change from our mundane dining experience.

Went there for the Wednesday evening. The 104.8 Live evening where there is live music and good food. Loved the food. Went back to the same place on the weekend. I must say the food there is very good. The buffet has really good food to choose from. The best part was the chaat food. THe bhel puri and the alu chaat. The cocktails offered are just too good. Never have i had anything better stuff than this. Highly recommend this place.

I had been to this place on a wednesday night when they have the Chennai live event. This place is cool, food excellent and the ambiance perfect for a get together. The service was good. The mocktails were really good. Enjoyed every bit of my eating time at Burgundy"s. Special mention on the panipoori "awesomesness". I could just go back to this place for the panipoori alone. Awesome

Awesome ! That just what this place is. Perfect on all counts - decor, food and service. I did go for a weekday buffet and found the spread to be very interesting. As buffets go, it was not a very lengthy one - but the care that had gone into prepping each of the dish bears a special mention. The desserts were tiny - something akin to petit fours- but totally satisfying. First date, birthday party, anniversary dinner...whatever your reason to dine out - this place would surely make an impression on you !!!

I took my gf out on a date to the place last night - the ambiance was pretty good - the stacked up generic bottles you see when you open the door makes a great first impression. It is a Steal

A bunch of my friends and I have been dying to have Good brunch in Chennai for a long time now, and we were finally able to at Burgundy’s on Sunday. We called them up the previous day and made a reservation, so as to ensure that we were seated and didn’t have to wait outside. We weren’t too sure to go there but just “looking at the menu online made our mouth water” and then it was decided.

Since we made the reservation we didn’t have to wait for long. We were seated as soon as we got there. The space is simple and bright, and we didn't feel cramped at all. The service was brilliant. The managers and waiter were interactive and very hospitable. I had high expectations since many some of my friends said that it was the best brunch they had. They said the service was excellent, and boys were they right.

We all enjoyed our meals:
The Salad buffet was particularly good with lots of different options I got the different assortments of vegetables with the cheese platter. My friends got different breads and with vegetables It was an unlimited buffet inclusive of Tax and beer at Rs 1450. I did try the scramble and enjoyed it because it had a ton of goat cheese.
Up next were the starters, we had a variety of chats, along with some Indian Delicates. My paneer was flavorful and was soft from inside. We preferred our bread choices over the sides:
Their main course included pasta, pizzas, Indian food both from the North and South. Huge portion of food and a choice of a bread or side.

Solid brunch spot, for sure! For Rs1450 this brunch is a steal.

Amazing Experience, You must go there :D :D

Disappointing

After seeing all the reviews my expectations were very high of this place.i went here for lunch with 4 of my friends. We started of with the chat-dahi papdi, dahi bhel and pani puri.the dahi chat turned out to be good while the pani puri was very dry and tasteless. The tomato soup was good but nothing extraordinary. The biggest disappointment is that they do not serve any starters for lunch.Any restaurant of similar standard would serve atleast 2 starters.

Then for the main course, the veg tomato omlette was superb, while the masala dosa and podi dosa were ordinary and dry for my liking. The naan and roti were very hard and chewy.Noodles was ok.Jeera rice was bad and it was overcooked.Palak paneer too was tasteless. Most of the food was warm. The stand out dish was the baked mushroom and zucchini.Channa masala and Dhal makhni were decent.Chicken biryani was good. For salads we had a pasta salad and a aubergine salad both were ok.There was a huge variety of deserts, most of them tasted good.
Overall we all felt the the food was not upto the mark.I would anyday prefer tuscana(which is my favorite restaurant ).The service was also slow on a day where most of the tables were empty.Next time i might just come here to try their a la carte menu instead of the buffet.

Not the star of the Willies Places

Very good food and the service is also quite good. The only problem is that it is a predominantly Indian buffet and it is priced way out of line with all of the hotels in town serving similar products at significantly lower rates.

The place is well decorated, although a bit bright. It is immaculately clean. An event in itself in Chennai. Good selection of foods with a great range of starters and desserts. I would kill for a dab of Panna Cotta from one of the other venues, hint hint.

Service is reasonably attentive but they get a little depressed if they can't sell the water at something beyond ridiculous. I get so annoyed with the bill padding through water here. Get over it and price it fairly and I just might go along with the game.

I have been twice and will probably go again but Kryptos and Tuscana are better and you get something special for the higher price. They have unique and great food.

I have to thank this chain for adding Tamil to their menus. It is long overdue and it is shameful how many places try to look classy by writing all English menus. It is also annoying that I have to read menus for my friends that only read tamil. Good job for taking a notch out of this phony English snobbery.

THE BEST

I was eagerly waiting for the weekend to arrive as a few of my Friends wanted to have a get together lunch and Our unanimous choice was Burgundy's.We visited this place last weekend for Lunch and as we had made a reservation,we were promptly shown our table by the friendly and ever-eager staff.

The manager was happy to accommodate our requests and ensured that we had our fill of our desired food. I have to point out that all the dishes were prepared with immense dedication and the taste was lingering. This kind of quality is hard to come by in Chennai.Even though the prices are a bit on the higher side,The quality speaks for itself.

Something Different!

Last week I went to Kryptos with my family for lunch. I thought it would be your regular everyday family restaurant, but was I in for a surprise! The ambience was lovely and the place had a warm glow.Loved the menu, and loved that the menu is printed in Tamil as well! The food was light, colourful and delicious. I don't know much about Greek food but I know that the food at Kryptos tasted very exotic. The staff was very efficient and they even recognised my mom from her last visit. We got a small complimentary salad as well! I had Apricot Panacotta for dessert and it was very tasty! All in all it was a very refreshing experience and I'm going to go there again soon :)

My favourite!

I visit Burgundy's at least once in two weeks. There is something about the place that keeps me coming back. Whether its the chic decor, the fun ambiance, the efficient staff or the wonderful food, there's nothing that has disappointed me in this restaurant. The Sunday brunch always has an interesting and colourful spread and my entire family looks forward to going there every Sunday. Since I am a frequent visitor of this place so when I heard that they've started a Loyalty card I was delighted! Apparently they give some great offers and vouchers with the card as well as a 15% off throughout the year. My favourite thing about this place is the Draught beer that they serve at such a nominal price. Great going, guys! Keep up the good work!

Fale Advertising

So, on my 'Umpteenth' visit 2 B Bar...I get 2 experience one of the Worst & most Pathetic Services at this so-called 'Chennai Party-Hub'...B Bar proudly announces Sunday 'Unlimited Beer' for Rs 300...and being a true Rock-Fan, I am a regular 2 this place...but 2day I experienced 1 of the most 'Unprofessional' behaviours by the B Bar Management....They have some of the most Illogical & Idiotic Rules attached to 'Unlimited Beer' option :-
1. You have to "Stand" & drink your Beer - You cannot sit down.
2. You cannot go to the Bathroom at all - If you go, your "unlimited" offer is Over.
3. You cannot have more than 4 Mugs of Beer - If you have, you will be refused anymore Beer.
4. They will ask you to pay in Advance, giving the reason that they are short of staff, and the customer might run away without paying.

Not only this, when we asked to speak to Manager - Mr Sinbad, B Bar Manager refused to come & speak to its customers. The serving staff (with an exception of Ganesh) was Rude & totally non-courteous. Even their restaurant Burgundy's is mostly out of drinks & dishes mentioned in their Menu.

If this is the Service provided by such a reputed place in Chennai, who think that customers are going to run away without paying, then its a very sad state. If B Bar cannot keep up the Offer which they Advertise, then its the case of "False Advertising" to fool people & to lure them to their place.

Being an Army Officer, I have been to various cities in India, and various kinds of restaurants & clubs - but this kind of 'Illogical', 'Stupid' & absolutely nonsense Rules - I have seen first time. I am lodging a formal complaint with MRTP & Chennai Consumer Forum about this malpractice, so they can investigate in this 'False Advertising' & make other people aware about it.

They have no respect for Vegetarian sentiments

Had Been here with friends for a bday party for dinner. We only had to choose buffet. We were served with yummy veg cauliflower soup. When we asked the waiter can we know what all starters they had , he told us that it will be served at table. He did not even bother telling the name so we had to wait until they were served on our table to really find if we really wished to have them. But I would say the starters were really delicious. Loved the tuscana Pizza. When one of our friend asked if they had any non-veg Pizza , She was told no and after 10mins we see that she was served with chicken Pizza.... Suprise..!! Veg Katti rolls were very tasty. They had decent range of salad. Bread was really very hard(Not sure if that's the way it is). Curries were not very hot, Nevertheless we hungry so we all just ate. When we asked for Pudhina Paratha with butter , We just got plain Paratha so they dont listen to what customer need. Curd rice was pretty decent. My rating is entirely based on tragedy that I had with dessert section. Had kaju kitli , though it was not in good shape it had appropriate amount of sugar. Kesar peda was really nice. There was this kheer like stuff made of almonds , but it had its name on a red card So out of curiosity I asked if it was vegetarian and the attender told me it was a vegetarian. When I questioned why was there a red card , He was like Indian desserts are vegetarian and eggless. So I felt I was cheated badly. They had card color convention just for the heck of it. They really dint mean it. I was kind of confused , did I by any chance eat something which I was not suppose to eat? I was hurt. I asked the same attender if they had ice cream , He told me I could choose from vanila , choclate and strawberry. I went back to my table and asked the waiter to get a strawberry icecream , He was like we have only Vanila. So I asked was I given misleading info , After some time I see strawberry Ice cream. Again Suprised...!! I loved the ice cream , It was a reall strawberry ice cream. So I asked for another scoop, When I got second scoop It had all together different taste. It tasted like bubble gum. Not sure why this treatment. Overall I had some good exp but lots of awful Moment. I am sure I will never ever vist this place

Bad service, Good food

I went here for dinner last night. My friend and I ordered Mocktails. I opted for "Name it Yourself". The drink served was in yellow color with a chunk of Musk Melon. I asked the waiter Kevin, what the drink was and he assured me it was the drink I ordered. I had my doubts because the menu said the drink was Cranberry-based and it looked nothing like it. Anyways, I went ahead and gave it a try. And turns out, it was Musk-melon based Cocktail. Until last night, I've never had a drop of alcohol in my life. When I complained to Kevin the waiter, he brought me the drink I ordered and walked away without even a single apology. And the waiters had to be called like 3 times at-least, very hard to get their attention. Food was good though but it doesn't make up for the fact that I was served alcohol nor the bad customer service.

An evening at B Bar & Burgundys

Frustrating experience at B Bar. They advertised Happy Hours 4-8 pm, and at 645 pm said they aren't 'Open'(and they were serving couple of their 'regulars', meanwhile!). Waited till 7 pm, and then the same guy says 'No Happy hours during week-ends'. I said 'But, today is Thursday' and he says 'yes, week-ends starts on Thursdays'. Maybe, I should have read up on these guys but really sloppy characters at the B Bar. The mgmt should take a closer look at the folks they employ. Plus, they had some renovation work going in those gloomy interiors!
Dinner & ambience at Burgundys was much better, very attentive & courteous waiters. Salad bar was good, couple of non-veg starters were really good, the indian food was very average, not stand-out. Dessert menu was very 'uni-dimensional', with lots of similar tasting cakes + mousses.

Burgundy's a great place

We tried the buffet dinner at burgundy's. It was one of the better buffets I have tried. The ambience is very international ,which you don't find in many chennai restaurants. The salad bar was very inviting ,and the salads were fresh. The thin crust pizza was also very good. The Indian food on offer was pretty normal stuff. I must point out that the mix berry smoothie wasn't quite what it was supposed o be, it was very watery. The service is also impeccable and you find that there is always a waiter near you. The star of the show though is the dessert bar,I really enjoyed it.
On the whole, I think it's a great place, especially for a stand alone restaurant.

Complete Dining Experience

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Burgundy’s was inaugurated at a quaint location in R.A.Puram, right behind Chettinad Vidyashram. Classy interiors, with loads of natural lighting during the day and a great ambience in the later hours…it is definitely an enticing place to dine.

Fresh start

We started off with the thick and healthy chicken celery soup, followed by some amazing chaat. Next, we went on to the salad bar, which was a treat to the human eye, and later on to our taste buds. The beef salad, and the seafood salad were the best of the lot, and the veg salads were very fresh too. The main course began with the tantalising thin crust chicken pizza, which of course came from the same central kitchen as Tuscana’s Pizzeria and Kryptos. A very good reason for vegetarians to go to Burgundy’s would be their 1:1 proportion of veg to non-veg dishes.

The Murgh Mughlai and the Beef stew are definitely value for money and the Meen Pepper Masala takes one’s taste buds all the way to the shores of Kerala. The kitchen in spite of the usual chaos, was kept clean, and hygiene seemed to be their top priority. The delicious pizzas were made in a state-of-the-art oven which made sure that the pizza was cooked evenly. The apt use of technology like the refrigerated salad and dessert bar makes us appreciate the designers even more.

Talking of desserts, the Mix Berry Mousse (egg less), and the Profit Rolls gave us the “heaven in our mouth” feeling. The raspberry whip and the apple crumble tart are total must-haves. The Kaju Triangle and Doodh roll were totally authentic and will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth. Burgundy’s aims at “giving good food to anyone who is ready to pay.”

Price: Rs. 800 - Rs. 1200 per person.

Buffet at its best!

The concept of a buffet always threw me off, until I ate at Burgundy's. Here, it is not a theme based buffet. There is a bit of everything - Indian, Oriental, European and even chat - that keeps everyone happy. I discovered, a pani puri is a perfect texture complement to roast meat.

The selection of starters is perfect to go along with a beer or two. Which means, I don't have to order beer sides seperately. Then I can proceed smoothly to a meal, without having to look for another place.

The outdoor area is definitely a plus. Since the place is not far from the sea, the evening breeze is just the thing to unwind after a long day. Give it a try.

Burgundy's Restaurant

Hi,
I have been to Burgundy and the BEE bar. Both my experiences were awesome.
When you enter the property, the lobby greets one with an international look and both the restaurant and the bar live up to it.The quality of food is very good. The quantity is good. Service is good and the decor takes you to an international location. I like the fact that the Bee bar has a door that leads directly to the lawn where you get very good sea breeze.
A must try out of a handful of very good restaurants in Chennai.
Cheers,
Mark

Burgundy's Restaurant

I always enjoyed the ambience and the food at Tuscana on knk road until i explored Burgundys. To start with, the place itself is located in such a calm and serene atmosphere and to add to that the look and feel of the restaurant is truly classy and elegant. The outside seating area is very chilled out and reminds us of the european cafeterias. Now when it comes to the food, i tried the pasta arabiatta and tenderloin steak and it was truly delicious. The service is equally good and since i dint try the buffet cant comment much on it. I cant look forward to be there again and again. This is the best restaurant to happen in chennai.

Best buffet in Chennai as of now

The Somerset Gardens is a really nice, classy, brand new property in Chennai and this is a great location for Burgundy. It is the hotel's buffet restaurant and should thus be compared to the buffets at Raintree or Park and the like.

In that comparison, I feel Burgundy scores higher. There are simply too many observations to highlight, but here are some:
- Every single type of cuisine on the menu (sushi, italian, south indian, north indian) was absolutely fantastic. Great use of local and international ingredients and focus on flavor. (Park Hotels don't use local ingredients enough)
- The Indian food is brilliant. A lot of attention to detail, a focus on flavors over extreme levels of spice and oil, and high quality ingredients for rice and breads. The broccoli starter, gobi masala, and pav bhaji masala (which was an upgrade of the street variety) were some highlights
- The breads also weren't burned as you often find in many indian restaurants. Kryptos and Tuscana would make you have a lot of expectations over Burgundy. And mine were exceeded.
- There's enough of everything to keep everyone happy. A full, typical south-indian spread for the traditional crowd, and a range of well-executed international cuisine for those looking for something different.

Valentines Day was bliss!

Decided to take my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day to a fancy place. A friend suggested Burgundy’s next to Chettinad Vidyasharam School. As we walked in we noticed the rich interiors of the Somerset building, with it’s plush lobby and were guided to Burgundy’s -inside which was equally trendy and awesome. I had reserved a table through telephone and was assured a quite private table that will make the day even more special! True to their words, we were a given a corner table outside the restaurant facing the lawns with dancing fountains amidst shimmering lights. The little candles on the table made the setting even more romantic. My girlfriend was super impressed. Now coming to the food. We opted for the buffet as the spread was inviting and had various cuisine options – Italian, Greek, Continental, Indian…you name it. We started our meal with a chicken and potato soup. It was subtle and delicious, and not scalding hot. Just warm enough to enjoy all the flavors. We decided to start off with some Indian starters. Chicken Malai Tikka and Paneer Tikka were the options for the day. They almost melted in our mouths and we just couldn’t stop munching on them. We had also ordered some wine that complimented the meal very well. We decided to go help ourselves to some salads once we were through with these starters. I love salads so I was in heaven when I saw the spread in front of me. I loved the shrimp in garlic dressing and all the dips that were available from the Greek hummus to the Baba ganoush! The creamy chicken pasta salad was also quite a hit with my tummy! The main course was a sure hit with all the classics. Soft Naans, cashew pulav, the best mutton rogangosh were the Indian compliments! The Vietnam braised fish was distinct and has a unique taste! It was a taste explosion. This was further complimented with stir fried beef which was nothing but appetizing. What I would like to mention is the bacon quiche, it just melted in our mouth that we wanted to have one more. The dessert spread was ok, nothing great. I’m a person who enjoys plain chocolate or vanilla. But there was nothing that was palatable to my taste. My girlfriend on the other hand enjoyed the Banana cake, Mango mousse and the Sacher Tart. Honestly I was too full to try anything else. But overall me and my girl enjoyed most of it and it was definitely worth it! The average cost for two over a dinner buffet is around 2K plus. Totally worth it!!!

A refreshing change!

When we were suggested this place for a sunday brunch i had my own doubts. All that vanished once we tucked in. The ambience and lighting are truly outstanding and on par with any international restaurant. The menu was simply delicious and very wide. The kids loved the excellent outdoor play area and this gave us time to relax and talk in peace! But i must say we were a little disappointed to find that the dinner selection wasnt as widespread when we returned. The service and attention given is impeccable and this should be maintained to keep us foodies from returning everytime. Cheers guys, yeah they do serve alcohol. ;)

Italy Remade!

A die-hard fan of Italian cuisine, I had my hopes high as Burgundy's comes from Vipin Sachdev's repertoire. After a lebanese starter and a Caesar's salad, I had to choose between Dizzy Lamb pizza, Roasted Pumpkin Cannelloni, Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms and the Triple Roll Dosas. I trusted my instinct and took the Dizzy Lamb Pizza which fulfilled all my senses. So, starter CHECK, salad CHECK, main course CHECK, dessert... I had no room for dessert. Just then, a man came up to me and introduced himself "Hi, I'm Vipin Sachdev." Delight CHECK. The man who revolutionized my love for Italian cuisine was soon shaking my hand and giving me a tour. Dessert CHECK.

Could give it a miss easily

"Guys we have to do our christmas lunch"
That was the main topic of discussion that day at office, there was a quick hustle-tustle and all checking their calenders and time slots, all agree for lunch but time available is only after New year in Jan!?!? ok fine! Jan it is then... but where? "some 5 star" [should be made 3 times bold] all agreed in a micro second.
I suggested "Burgundy" (kicking myself for that) saying that my friends had gone there and they had good review about it and all ...
Finally the day arrived, we start off,walk-able distance, still we took the car! in style you see hehe!
Now from exterior is nice, amble parking lot, good ambience, large space, beautifully arranged, good interior and color scheme.
We settle for the buffet after lot of confusing consultation from 3 different waiters/aides standing around the food area. One says there is Ala-carte available during lunch, another one says its not available, yet another one saying pastas are served as part of lunch buffet. hmm-mm.... and the excuse they are inexperienced here!!!! First instance of service failure!
Finally one gentleman [who seems to the manager sort of, from coat-suit looks] came and put us to ease. result - alacarte and buffet available during lunch, pasta not there with buffet, only pizzas.
"Do you serve cocktails during lunch time?",
"yes, we do",
"can we have the menu for that, pls"..... "this is the spirits menu!!! we asked for the cocktails menu",
"the bar opens only at 4p.m., but we can serve what you want"... blink, blink, blink... "i'll take xxxxxxx with sparkling water, pls, thanks" [point of confusion]

I walk to the buffet counter - - - First observation, its cluttered, food is placed haphazardly, and i have bend down to get a good view of the food coz of some kinda counter roof [ cant it be lil taller??]
OK fine leave it may be that's there for some reason god and the maker alone knows!
Soup - Lemon chicken..... so so, didn't enjoy it
Hummus spread was good, and some of the salads was nice, but mostly were cold salads, no complaints there. the chat also was great! Not a pizza fan, so the thick crust pizza did not appeal to me, but colleagues found it decent enough.
The spread seems to be slightly confusing as there was no theme. looked like the chef wanted to make some of everything, so made and kept it.
More over the serving spoons were so hot that it was difficult take the food and also the rice [tomato and pulav] was so dry. may be because of the excess heat. some of the meat was also bit dry and ordinary tasting. the tandoori tikkas was very normal. There was generally good taste for the food, but then was something missing badly! Even the dessert section was not so appealing, the mouse (blueberry + mango or orange) was nice, also the white chocolate with pistachios and the honey cake?? (was it the exact name).
sorry, i could not find any wow factor and neither could my colleagues!
For that money i could have had much better meals in any other fine restaurants in the city!
Its a good place to have a kitty party or small group lunch for sure!
Still would try it out once more, as i believe every day is a new day!

Not worth the money and time!

Had visited Burgundy's on Dec 24th (my 2nd visit) with my wife and sister. To say the least, it was an awful experience. Spending Rs. 1,250 per head on a buffet, you expect better things, in the form of great food and service. Both of which are missing or may be they took a year end vacation :) Well my 2cents for ppl who can care to spend the above stated money, please visit any 5star in the city, as alteast you can expect better service levels if not food.
Well to detail out on why our experience was bad comes down simply to two vital things which make or break a restaurant (1) Food; (2) Service. Both of them as i said were on holiday, may be with the Indian Cricket team down under.
Well to start with, soup was as cold as it can get and to make the matter worse we had bad cold, and were really hoping to get some hot soup to soothe our throat. Ok now that the start was bad, we still dint allow our expectations to die down, we proceeded with the starters. Well they had this stale tofu and for god sake i havent come across a indian buffet not having any paneer starter. The other starters were pretty average as they were not stale and cold, but lacked any taste or flavor. By now our expectations mellowed down, and moved on to the main course. Well after seeing/tasting the main course, our mellowed expectations hit rock bottoom levels. Rice items and noodles were freezing cold and roti's needed crushers to break it. So we finally decided to move on and call for the cheque (hard earned money down the drain). We decided to move onto Saravana Bhavan to fill our half empty stomach, and Boy! the food as usual was great and light on the pocket.
That was on food. Service levels was disaster as well and we found Saravan Bhavan waiters more attentive.
So to sum it up, not worth the money, same budget one can get better food and service levels at a 5Star hotel in the city. No uniqueness as well in the restuarant apart from the great location.

All other food colorless! True Story!

Burgundy’s at MRC is indisputably a work of art. The founders have a distinct sense of aesthetic, creative and elegant. It’s quite clear from the remote place Mr. Vipin and Chef Willi has opted for this latest addition to their already flourishing chain of restaurants. MRC is quiet, residential and lucrative and now it has Burgundy’s added to the list. Thus it definitely has a bit for everyone.
From my perspective, while walking towards Burgundy’s for lunch I could see a restaurant with outdoor seating with the waltzing afternoon sea breeze, a play area for the kids, lavish car park and a restaurant silently guarded behind glass walls.
As soon I walked in I came live to the loud restaurant basking in the afternoon light which was seeping in through the glass walls. Instantaneously I was transported to another parallel universe of mixed culture bubbling with mirth and laughter over the tables, a natural sign of good food and extravagance.
Burgundy’s is not at all limiting. It can accommodate at most 110 people and can still manage to give you, your personal space and privacy. At one corner you have your lounge for official discussions and other covert practices. On the other side you have the long standing tables waiting to be dined at.
Coming to the food they offer you a variety spread from all over the world ranging from European to Pan Asian to Indian. I walked in to their admirable lunch buffet which showcased a colourful range. The hummus was delectable, the chicken pasta salad creamy and delicious. Wanting to find some flaw I tried the channa masala but surprisingly they had the best. Almost like how we make it at home but with some magical mystery which I couldn’t quite figure. The pizza was crispy and thin with a tomato base. Having never tried lamb, I have become an ardent fan of their Rogan Josh which was succulent. The beef might have been a little cold and tough for my taste but the robust flavors were imperious. The coffee mousse is a must try and is addictive. Not to forget the honey coated cake and the Caju katly which were equally good. I couldn’t get enough myself. These small details should point you well at the big picture and whatever said and done if not given a try you are missing out on the best. There can be none other next to Burgundy’s.
The staff were courteous and prompt and the display suiting. To concede, Burgundy’s is synonymous to quality, impeccable taste and provides you with outstanding value. All in all it exceeds your expectation and even your imagination :)

Totally Loved it!

My Husband,Baby and I were there on a Sunday, Spacious valet parking, A quiet, spacious and soothing Ambiance , Play area for children are the positives, A firm handshake with a smile on the face saying "Welcome Sir, How are you?" once we entered made us feel at home.. We were there around 12.30 at noon, wanted to choose something from the Menu but the Waiter said that only the Buffet is open during Sundays and he said that there was a special Sunday Brunch buffet (with a wide variety of sea foods), We wanted to give it a try as it was our first experience, The soup, starters and mocktail(Slurrp) with some chaat (mouth watering) were served at our table.. I chose the Veg menu n' my hubby the non-veg one with some Beer(He was totally happy that he could enjoy his drink with family), They promptly offered a high chair for my little one, Wide range of starters, curries, The Biryani was awesome, the Pizza was really crispy and thin, The cheese Naan was simply superb and a lot of scrumptious desserts, My favorite was Caramel Torte.. One person who stood at the reception came forward to offer us to take care of the baby and told us to enjoy our food(Was very nice of her) Definitely a Value for money, Oh ya! You need to have a great Appetite to taste everything Lol :)

Mixed feelings

I went there because of all the amazing reviews and because I really like the other restaurants from Mr Vipin. The place is really nice, nice display, lots of natural light, nice decor and tables. I love the fact that you see the kitchen, it looks super clean and the buffet looks very yummy. The first problem is that the day we went, we were not super hungry and as tempted as it looked, we didn`t want to waste it. But we felt pressured to take it, just the attitude of some waiters wanting to sell it too hard. Then, the main thing, the food:I ordered a steak and it was ok but not super good. I asked for medium-well and I got it very well done. It spoilt it as well. The sauce was also not particularly good. My friend got a salad, it was written on the menu:green salad with anchovies and sun-dried tomatoes. In fact, it was just a green salad, the anchovies were ``part of the sauce`` the waiter said so... but my friend didn`t taste it. And the sun-dried tomatoes was... on toast. My other friend got a focaccia and said it was blend. At the end, when we wanted one dessert on the menu, they didn`t have it and proposed again to get desserts from the buffet. At 250 a piece for a tiny piece, no thanks! The water is also really expensive.
Otherwise, the coffee is good, the hummus with the bread is also really good and the waiters are quite nice. I don`t know if I will go again to give it an other chance. I don`t like to stay on a mixed impression.

Something new in town

I rate the restaurant 4 stars for the sheer enormity of the task at hand: start a new restaurant in a hitherto-unheard-of part of Chennai and serve all world cuisines as a buffet without clashing taste sensibilities. And indeed, they have done it quite admirably.

I personally adore MRC Nagar as a location for high-end food places - it is quiet, clean and has little thoroughfare. Burgundy, though hard to find, is situated in a block that is so light and open that it is perfect for casual dining with a sophisticated menu. The buffet has food from all over the world - sushi, ratatouille, pasta, chaats, stir-fries and curd rice. The interesting thing is that the tastes are so subtle that they do not clash. I could handle the uber-spicy kothuparotta right after the herb-roasted potatoes. The dessert and drinks selection is average, but you don't go to this restaurant for its desserts - you go there to sample world food.

All in all, a brilliant effort. My only complaint is that I got served pizza and chaat along with the soup. It is not an order of eating I am comfortable with - I'd much rather have the soup, then the salad, and then the appetizers. But my group enjoyed it all, and that's what counts.

Thanks for a nice place in city.. contd

Just to end, asked for Indian tea (& specifically said - No English / dip team pls). But what i got - more watery (read - with tinge of milk) n cinamon+pepper high - Pot !.
Not to forget - the pizza, starter section are very authentic, but some indian dishes need more local touch.

Best Wishes n thanks for giving such a nice place in city

Thanks for a nice place in city

With all the news n sensation around this place n MRC nagar being one of my favorite place for a late evening drive, I wish to have a peaceful / pleasant evening. And am blessed.
My wifey who hates big restaurants for the gloomy lighting n atleast one crowd - who takes the floor with high decibal conversation - enjoyed this place thoroughly.
Though many were keen (including the manager's n crew) towards the television (IND vs WI match), am fine to get the table cleared on time !.
Food - good quality. Was comparing the menu with Hyatt's spice market (similar priced) - this is a good spread.
Would love to see some nicey on desserts. They didn't invite me much. (I liked RA puram - raintree selection).

Another Vipin Sachdev masterstroke

For those who've been to Tuscana pizzeria and Kryptos you most definitely are aware of Vipin Sachdev and what credentials he brings to the table.Quite naturally your expectations are high and he doesn't disappoint.I was at Burgundy today afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised. It has a little bit for everyone.Exceptionally high standards of hygiene and great quality of service. There are way too many food options to choose from(multi cuisine). The staff very courteous and attentive.Ample space for car park and it's an ideal location for a restaurant.Quite simply the best buffet in town and bang for the buck(850 for a lunch buffet) ! What r you thinking, just head there rightaway .Thankyou Vipin your restaurants never fail to bring a smile on my face.

Outstanding Multi-Cuisine Food

I visited Chennai recently and my friends took me to Burgundy's. They told
me that it was by the same Vipin and Chef Willi duo who have Tuscana &
Kryptos and many other good restaurants in the city. I have eaten at Tuscana
on Chamiers, Tuscana Pizzeria and Kryptos I was expecting the same standard
of service, food and ambience. But to tell you the truth, the food, service
and ambience exceeded my expectation.....it was REALLY good. Its a multi
cuisine restaurant. The kebabs and tandoori rotis were so authnetic. I will
highly recommend this place. A small minus-the loos were smelly. The manager
said they were getting the drain repaired. Keep up the good work Vipin and
Chef Willi. Hope you open up in New Delhi.

1 of the better places in Chennai !

Disclaimer: I went there with a slightly non-experimental dining companion and hence dint really try a broad set of things.. I shall definitely do that, just coz so many people seem to like this place.

Loved it!
+ Ambience
+ Decor
+ Location
+ Attentive staff

Needs improvement!

- No sign boards outside! I was outside the restaurant, and called up to ask where it was! :) Really needs neon signs outside..

- Menu needs better arrangement - They seem to serve dal, rice, naan, fried veggies, etc with the main course(without charging for it). Revolutionary! I liked the idea. It definitely ups the value for money factor. But it needs more thought and needs to be presented better. I ordered flambeed sheekh kabab and that came with dal and roti and other stuff. It was a little disconcerting.

- The Bread basket is a failure.. Sad to say..Many have tried and most have failed. This place unfortunately is in that category. A good bread basket really has the capability to elevate the meal to a new high. The bread was wrapped up tight and served. That almost had me impressed, since I thought it would be warm. Not the case. It was hard, crusty, dry and rather tough. Most people would prefer warm, moist and soft bread.

- The staff needs to be better trained - I asked the waiter if there was anything being served with the buffet which was not on display and he was lost. I basically wanted to know if you have any complimentary mocktail, cocktail, beer, etc which is served as a part of the buffet. I still dont know the answer.

All of that said, I think this is still one of the better places in Chennai, but still has to iron out a few chinks in its service. I shall not comment on the food till I get a better chance to try out a wider spread. :) Do visit at least once.

A wonderful place to go

I went to Burgundy's last week (Friday) and it was an amazing experience. For me a restaurant experience is just not about food. It is a total experience - from parking to exit & Burgundy's scores high on every aspect. Ample parking, a welcome full of warmth, service with a smile & with a 'may I serve you more please' or 'please try this dish, I'm sure you will love it' attitude & of course wonderful food.

The buffet spread is very vast & rich which ranges from sushi's, octopus, wood fire pizzas to the normal Indian food that we have.

It was a great experience and I will be back for more.

Dear Vipin & Willi

Thank you so much for the great food that you have brought to Chennai - all your brands rock. Am keenly waiting for Jade Walk & B Bar. When will they open ?

Cheers

A Wonderful Evening - worth all the praise!

Went to Burgundy on a date, just a few hours back. I read about most new restaurants in Chennai and Burgundy was the only one which had only positive feedback!!

And now .. I know why!!

The place is really good and deserves the praise.

1. Ambiance is very relaxing and pleasing.

2. Service is cheerful and prompt.

3. The food is very good, great spread on the buffet including desserts.

And I got to go through my old neighborhood where my school is located, so it was kinda nostalgic as well.

Thanks a lot to all the people at Burgundy, keep up the good work.

Will visit again, in an even more hungry state than today :p and surely recommend to all my friends as well..

Awesome experience on Diwali day

[Spoiler alert: Descriptions below are detailed to emphasize the awesomeness. If you would rather be pleasantly surprised, just go there instead of reading this and knowing it all before you experience it.]

This experience gave me two things -
a. One more reason to love Burrp - info. about newly opened places
b. Taught me that new places are fantastic to go to, because they are so eager to please you.
It was a 10/10 experience from the very beginning. The restaurant is located within Sommerset Greenways hotel and surrounded by beautiful looking buildings. Glass walls placed strategically give you a romantic view while you dine, even more awesome if its raining. Was somewhat surprised to see an international mix in the crowd, especially a large group from Japan.
The staff is eager to serve and please you, but they also know how to stay out of your way and give you an uninterrupted experience. We opted for a buffet for two instead of going a-la-carte - they allowed us to go around the place and take a look at the huge variety of dishes before we made that choice.
A generous helping of vegetable soup was followed by mix fruit juice. The juice was the kind Mom forces you to drink at home - natural, very healthy but not quite appealing for the taste-buds. This was followed by Panner Tikka appetizers, among the best I have ever had - fresh and soft. 10/10 on quality so far.
They seem to be a little confused with the ordering of the dishes - soup, juice, appetizer, chaat (really?), pizza, salads, Indian main course - that was a little different from what we are generally used to. Except for the chaat, everything seemed well in order - the chaat should be optional, it kills the appetite that you just got thanks to the soup and juice.
The pizza is awesome for the kinds who really crave for the home-made authentic pizza taste, especially the hints of Basil that you get while munching every now and then.
The salads - brilliance again! Lots of exotic stuff, the spicy Olive dip is a must-try.
The Indian main course- they need to improve the placement of the dishes, we thought there were only south Indian curries with difficult to pronounce names onthe menu - only because they were prominently clustered at one end with the other dishes hidden behind. Their "dal tadka", which was actually dal makhani or "kaali udad",was the best we had ever tried. And this comes from two people who are both dal makhani freaks, sampling it at every place possible.
Mexican potatoes in the main course was another show-stealing dish. But apart from these couple of things, the main course also had mediocre stuff - a very routine tamarind rice - which perhaps could be improved.
The service was awesome throughout - the waiters very quick and courteous.
The desserts blew us off - their coffee custard is a must-have for coffee freaks. Orange tart a must-try. No dish in the desserts section (we skipped the Indian sweets though) failed to pleasantly astonish us.
At 750 for a lunch buffet, this place is definitely quite pricey but I would say the experience here, at 1500 for two, was orders of magnitude better compared to other (also good) fine-dining places, where we spend about 1100-1200 for two. Look forward to re-visiting!

Fantastic Food / Ambience

Thanks Vipin for yet again creating a brand name "Burgundy" synonymous with what all your chains stand for.... High Quality food for those true foodies...

We were a group of 3 along with 2 kids at Burgundy for lunch today.... We were inquisitive about Sommerset in MRC Nagar and Burgundy tucked away amongst the high rises and the upcoming Leela. As true foodies, we wish to try something new everytime.... and wish to use our precious weekends with family to experiment... So we did come in and got what we really came looking for...

Brilliant food and we knew it right from the minute that Chicken Peanut Soup came in.... All the way through the starters, chaat, main course, desserts till that final filter coffee.... Appreciate that amazing ability to maintain the quality right through without a single dish getting getting into the negative.. We have been to Marriott, Hilton, wherever, but on a Saturday, I bet I wouldnt get this variety of quality food at any of the 5 stars around in Chennai today. We as true foodies, appreciate your service levels and wish you the very best for all your forthcoming ventures... We want more.... So without a doubt, we will be back.... Thanks...

A great meal

Happened to drop by at the Burgundy for lunch yesterday. The buffet turned out to be a nice combination of Continental and Indian food. As is always the case in a restaurant owned by Vipin and run by Willy, the Conti food was great and totally delectable. All in all Burgundy has the right ambiance, prices and tasty food. kingdom of multi cuisine

Burgundy's

Vipin sachdev has become synonymous to good quality delicious food chain in Chennai so when he opened doors of a new restaurant, me and vinoo were most intrigued to try it out, on a Sunday noon to catch up and taste everything (well atleast try...) on its elaborate menu. Vinoo being a non-vegetarian and me a vegetarian our tables was full of delicacies and Chefs got a busy noon churning 5 course meal of veg and non veg on same table.
Elegant setting, super spacious and comfortable plush interiors with a multi cuisine buffet and friendly staff...
Back to our meal, Right from chaats to all time favorite live dosa counter to an extensive salad menu and multi cuisine lavish spread all of it was simply wonderful.
Change is always welcome but some all time favorites are best left as it is. Hence the good old all time favorite Panacotta (of tuscana) was missed truly deeply @ Burgundy's and is requested to be added on burgundy’s menu without further ado.

Vipin, vinoo and I had chatter and guffaw over how Namma Chennai is suddenly become more accepting and open and many more never ending sagas which helped us digest our food and head to the desserts the grand finale to the grand spread was mind blowing, Rasmalai was really delicious and melted, and one of the best I have ever tasted. Although we were stuffed to the brim we tried the others too …
Verdict - restaurant with great ambience and greater food is a must try.

Excellent spread!

I've been to Burgundy's a few times since it opened and I have to say that I'm impressed with the variety and quality of the food on offer especially in the buffets. The buffets have an excellent blend of Indian, Western and Asian dishes. Be warned though, you're bound to over eat while you're there..
The cold salad/starter counter always looks appetizing and I make sure I never skip it... Kebabs and pizzas are also included in the buffet. Their malai kebab is a definite favourite of mine. For main course, instead of large steel trays overflowing with food, they presented smaller quantities in dishes that would refilled regularly. Not only did this keep the food hot but it kept the food fresh. No dried, cold meat that you usually come across when getting food from a buffet. I usually go for the western dishes while i'm there because I consider myself a meat eater and everytime I'm there I can't help but feel the steaks, roast chicken and the different seafood are calling me. The Indian dishes looked very good too and my friends enjoyed it. The prawn malabari is must have from what I know.
The dessert counter always looks so good and it always changes. However, I've found that I enjoy the dessert some days over the others. I wish they would have the favourites such as the tiramisu, chocolate eclairs and panna cotta as a mainstay.
All in all I enjoy Burgundy's. Somethings I think they could improve upon is their Lemon Iced Tea which was more tea and less lemon.. and the service. Some of the waiters seemed very confused at time but since this is a new restaurant I'm not going to hold that against them at the moment.

I just loved my day after spending a few hours here!! Great job guys and i request you to maintain your standards.

End of the long wait

Had been waiting for Burgundy to start operations for a long time and Boy! They did so with a bang!!! Visited the coffe shop 4-5 times and have had almost the same experience always-SUPERB ! The ambience and the ever smiling staff can make a huge difference... A well trained team effort shows here and I guess the bosses know that the way to a clients heart in this business is definitely through his stomach.
Kudos to all @ Burgundy

Burgundy's in Somerset

It was Saturday evening and I was looking forward to an evening out. This evening I knew was going to be different, for it was going to be spend in the new swanky Burgundy's in Ascott Somerset, MRC Nagar, Chennai.

The evening was filled with fun , food and music! There were people walking in, there were some trying to grab a Bakhlava or maybe a swiss roll. And then there were some scrambling to order a thin crust yummilicious Pizza....

I dont think I have seen this amount of food in a long time. There were dazzling plates filled with little treats -both Veg & Non-veg.. Apart from food, there were quite an array of juices passed around adeptly by the waiters. As the evening wore on, the place was getting packed with people vying for a bite from one of the unique platters.

What an evening it was.. I am looking fwd to visiting Burgundy's once it is launched, with the B-Bar, Music-Bar and all .. I left the venue towards home as the music floated in the air and smiles spread cheer in the air....

Food- mostly finger food and of course the thin crust pizza which is to die for
Ambiance- casual, and yet chic
Location- prime
Car parking- plenty of car parking space
price- 7/10, but worth it when you look at the portion size

Good Experience

I am an Indian settled abroad. I fly down to India once in 2 years and i found this trip more fun for so many reasons. Very interestingly,I find something new each visit and i make it a point to give a prompt feedback. Being a short stay,i had called on my very close friend for a dinner just a day before and knew that he had plans already. Neither could i accept nor could he deny. He anyway wanted me to participate as well. I was little feeling odd to go without an invite from the host, nevertheless,he is a man with a great heart ! He and his people were very welcoming and i never had a feel to rush out. As and by, i had snacks and dinner with them. made a lot of friends as well. The hall was fully packed. I was pretty sure, he has 1000's of friends. It was human rain. nevertheless, they served everyone with snacks, drinks and many more. well you wouldn't understand without me mentioning "It was the opening of burgundy's"!! The food was very good i should say. when they could maintain the taste in such a random flying crowd,am sure they will rock as a well organized restaurant. Having this in mind, i took my family after a week to dine, and true to my expectations, the food was awesome. They were yet to fully complete. The food was extra hot..may be we as people used to foreign food style..we like it a less hot..but anyway its never a let down for all you native people.. we enjoyed too much as well.. and my kids had a nice time playing in their small park set up !! BESTO guys !!
