Tasty food. worst ambience!
Bachelors' place to be if you want heavy food for a light pocket...it was a weekend night and many of the dishes on the menu werent available....the plates and glasses werent clean and we had to ask for replacement twice, without full satisfaction. the place is located at the basement and doesnt look clean. but yeah when it comes to the food we got, we were satisfied....for the cost, the quantity they serve is good and so is the taste! place to be if you want a cheap north indian meal!
Bad Quality Foods and Worst Service
Foodie. Lebanais is absolutely right.
I'm a guy from Kolkatta and tried foods from Daawat only once.
Bad quality foods and worst service I've ever experienced.
Try to post the real reviews about this place.
Burrp should have an eye on the positive reviews posted for this Daawat restaurant.
I have no idea how they are getting excellent ratings for the worst food served in Adyar. That too continuous excellent reviews. I have been to this place when they used to serve good food. That was one year back. Recently I went to this place with my friend thinking of the same old Daawat. But it turned out to be one of the worst food experiences I had.
The place itself was dingy and the service was so pathetic although we were the only customers at the beginning.
The menu has very limited options for vegetarians. We ordered wheat paratha and aloo paratha, the size of which were very small and they were having a very stiff nature. The waiter at first did not serve the right breads and we had to wait till they made the right ones.
The chicken we ordered was served half cooked and tasted bad. The egg fried rice we ordered was way below average and the quantity was not at all satisfying (but thank GOD it was small in quantity).
Then billing was the grand finale. By the time we wanted the bill, the place was filled and Oh my Goodness they brought the wrong bill 2-3 times. Eventually we had to go to the person in charge there in order to get the right bill.
Overall the food was not good, the ambiance was not good and no value for money at all...
Average prices doesn't mean that you can serve low quality food and doesn't mean that you should not maintain the ambiance... I will never go back there again.. Chennai has many excellent options for food......
Tried out 2nd time - Taste Superb
Their kebabs are rocking particularly tangiri.......I thought they are one specialist in north indian items, but their fried rice is too good.
As we had a lot of starters we ordered only for one fried rice....but the taste make me too order for the second one........ yummy and nice. And their friendly reception and care towards taste is awesome...... I can say one can try any food over here most of them is good :) ..... yet to try deeply on chinese....missed briyani as it is sold out :(

This place is awesome!
I've been eating in Daawat every since they started up in Besant Nagar, and the food is absolutely amazing! I have never had tandoori as good as Daawat's! Great work!!! Awesome food!!! The new restaurant in Adyar serves not only amazing food but the ambience is classy too... Love it!

Thank u... sir,
we are awaiting for ur kind reply...
Smells Bad and not a healthy food.
I will not go with the 4 star raters or 5 star raters for this kind of low cadre restaurant and its taste.
As Sumit said nothing is proper. The plates and glasses are not cleaned properly.
The waiters are very in decent and only 4 or 5 dishes available anytime.
Have much Kebab variety in their cards. But only limited dishes available.
Should try to maintain cleanliness as well.
Very untidy and smells really odd.

thank u very much...
good but limited menu for veg
On sunday afternoon after heavy shopping it was slightly late for lunch.
went to rain forest, they asked to wait for 1 more hours.
Came to daawat, it was half full only.
Saw the board saying Burrp certified.
Not a new one so ambience was not good.
Plates were cheap old melamine plates.
No spoon served for the food.
Glasses were of steel and felt like washed with water only.
Waiters with no dress code.
Got the menu card and started to look for some veg dishes.
In the last page of menu we found some 6-7 starters and some 12-15 main course that include dal also.
Only 2 types of paneer dish was there.
Ordered paneer butter masala with garlic naan, lacha paratha and onion kulcha.
Service was fast.
Gravy dish was good.
Naan and paratha were satisfactory but not hot enough to give that pleasure.
Onion kulcha had every thing except onion, i guess they also suffer price hike of onion.
Overall experience was good but not repeatable for vegetarians.
For non-veg i think menu is good enough (kebab portion atleast).
Good for bachelors (saw many there).
Average on pocket.
Kebabs n Briyani are Good.
At first when I saw this place, I thought whether it will kill my pocket badly, but after stepped in my mind tak a u-turn immediately.
The ambiance was good and decent. From the past review I hrd tht kebabs r good. But when I ordered n tasted it, it was awesome... Wow the juicy masala is fully spread all over the kebab. In most places in chennai they give kebab but internally it will only be fleshy, but this place is so good for kebabs.........I loved it.
Even the briyani is good, The taste they gave n the price they mentioned is very reasonable.
And I should say this the waiters are really cool, as we are tamilians they called us as anna(brother) & akka(sister), which is a bit comedy when we hear frm them, but they r so helpfull n responsive.
Their suggestions was good and service is quick n responsive.
Overall good place to not only have Kebabs but also Briyani......
Khao..... Khaye Jaaao
This place is an simply excellent for kebabs and kebabs.............. It used to be a small joint in Besant Nagar and now with this new place the ambiance has improved and now more comfy for families than before....
All that one can say about this place is... eat . .. eat .. and eat till u drop............. Khao.. khaye jaao.....very little damage to the pocket too.... thats a bonus
The first thing that I expected on seeing the "tag" kebab shop is a mughal decor or a complete Old dilli kinda setup. But Daawat boasts neither of the two. This i guess sets up the premise. Unpretentious. (If the name board was to be any kind of indication).
The menu isn't elaborate as expected from a restaurant dedicated to Kebabs. But it does cover the basic mandatory kebabs that we are used to along with basic Indian Breads and typical Indian curries with a modest run of the mill desserts.
The service is quick. The kebabs-Tandoori and the tikkas are really tasty and can give u a heavy incentive to visit the place often. The rest of the menu is quite decent and i would term them value for money.
All through the restaurant experience I can only think of the term "No-Frills". The restaurant surely does what it intends to do.Feed Tasty Food without a heavy pinch to your wallet.
Nice Place to Satisfy your appetite
PS: The place does offer decent Veg Substitutes for non meat lovers
Good Food, Simple Place, Low Cost
Daawat is a perfect lunch joint for working people who want quality food, served on time in a relatively clean environment.
The meat dishes taste wonderful and fresh, especially the kababs, the spice levels are JUST right, and most importantly, don't take long to get to your table. Naans are soft, but the daals could use some perking up.
Simple atmosphere and a real bang for your buck!
Words don't justify my love for this place
I would marry the food and have kids with it if it were possible. The owner (Bai) is the nicest man! Never had to wait in line, always had preferential treatment and ALWAYS got great service (the waiter always knew our order). I went back recently after a year, and the owner came and hugged me.. made me cry :)
Eat more yet feel light
This is one of my fav rest. in chennai. I love the kebabs here and there is one mysterious thing about this place (in a positive note) is that no mater how much ever i eat, I dont have that "dump-ed" "over ate" feel. The hygienic quality of the food is very high. Pepper Tikka kebab, and Tandoori chicken are one of the best items here. The service is quick enough and they might make you wait if u order Veg items. Best place for a non veg dinner with friends.
