Eh.. I Would Not Go Back

I went with my fiance on a monday. The place was completely deserted. The food was ok and beverages just about ok. And for that Rs 840, did not make any sense.

Chinese at its Best

My favorite place to eat Chinese food. The food is worth every penny. The service is prompt and the food is delicious. I enjoy almost all dishes on the menu but my personal favorites are szechwan stew, Stir fried Thai noodles, Tsing hoi chicken.

The Review and Ratings are Wrong or I am Unlucky

Got burnt food once, got very salty food once. Both times waiters just nodded. Any decent restaurant would have replaced the order or not billed it. The manager even justified that the Pasta was supposed to be that salty.

Awesome outdoor seating, I like Italian cuisine

Been here twice, a bit earlier. Just now reviewing :)

Awesome outdoor seating - except, don't choose it in the month of May in Chennai - its sweltering heat. Now, from July onwards, its a very pleasant setting to have a meal. There are very few pleasant outdoor seating resto cafes in chennai. this is a good one. very high marks for ambience, therefore. i m very fond of outdoor seating.

I have had limited experience with their menu (I have this personal trait of re-ordering a good past experience)!

Here is what I tried and I liked it (I basically love Italian cuisine):

Lasagne Crepe: I think this is the only place in Chennai offering this (I apologize if its not - i haven't seen it or tried it anywhere else).

Penne pasta: my perennial favorite.

Brownie with Ice Cream: was awesome.

Service is hearty and good. Pricing is expensive for non-veg i think (just by seeing the menu card. i m a vegetarian). Its kinda moderate for veg. bordering on expensive. a good meal for two could cost Rs.1000 (without alcoholic drinks, of course). I think some sections of their menu more expensive than the market parity for similar offering (example: beverage, non-veg).

Sizzlers Serious NO NO Here

Resto-cafe -- Dewberry's name was nice and so were the reviews hence headed there on
8th June with couple of friends to try out Sizzlers. called at half past 12 to check if they are open. Surprise after surprise hit us within 5-10 min of reaching there. We were forced to take outdoor seating at 4 pm in spite being hot. Its very strange that indoor AC seating is restricted until 7 PM. They didn't have 1) AC 2) chicken didn't arrive yet for that day 3) we had flies, mosquitoes and spider-web for company. 4) spoon-knife-fork were too old and seriously needed to be changed. We ordered Paneer-Mushroom, Prawn and Fish Sizzlers.
We got what we ordered - they ideally cooked one curry and added Mushroom, Prawns and Chicken to made it look 3 different dishes. Chicken was hardly cooked.
Quality of rice what I have at home is far better than what they served. We went to Dewberry's for Kobe Sizzlers after reading reviews and were totally disappointed.

Verdict - Only the menu was great; Sizzlers sucks here.

A place to be

I would suggest this place for those people who wish to go out on a date . The Deserts are great and the ambiance is quite amazing . The service is also great . It is a treat for Non-veg lovers . The best part about this place was the crepe and the pastas . Thought the prices are a bit peaky the quality is just awesome . This is a place to be in Chennai .

Good Food And Quiet Ambiance!!

Visited Dewberry's once with my husband. The restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night, but the food was very good. We loved the menu and service. The quantity was also perfect. The location was a little difficult to find the first time, but will be visiting again!! :)

Nice Location Average food

Being in the locality, we decided to try this place out a few times. The Steaks and Desserts are good. The other items on the menu are average. The items are slightly over priced but its understandable. The seating and ambience is nice for a relaxed conversation though.

Cozy and friendly

I saw Drewberry on NDTV show and wanted to find this place. On the show it seems to be very classy ambiance but in reality it wasn't so much but still good. We tried the Arabita sauce pasta and wraps. Both were really good and the price was also reasonable and came upto 1500 for a group of 4. Its a nice place to chit chat with friends and have a good time. I would defiantly recommend a one time visit.

Definitely worth a visit

I made a reservation for 8 here. They kept a table ready in the main hall right in front of the TV where the cricket match was running :D I strongly recommend the Double Cheese Lasagna Crepe and the Cheese, Corn and Spinach Pasta. My non-vegetarian friends loved the sizzlers there. The starters were just about OK. A few friends felt that the cheese in the starters wasn't at its best, but I found it quite palatable. It is slightly pricey and I spent around 4000 for a group of 8. But then, the main course was sumptuous.

cosy

the thing i love most about dewberry's is that theres never ever a waiting line!!! even on saturday nights
my initial thought was that maybe the food is that bad...but realty hits one soooo hard on the face once the food starts arriving!!
though the sizzlers werent qt all there, they were still very good..the crepes are amazing and the fried chocolates for dessert are a must have!! and no crowds means lots of room to have fun and more attention!!:)

nice and cosy place with good food

This place is a little hard to find but it is a nice little cosy place to have a good time. The vegetarians do not have much to choose. But the food is very good. The sizzlers are good. The pasta is also good here. A nice calm place.

looks classy but food is average

It's hard to spot this place within the lanes but it has a great ambiance.
a lovely place for a cozy couple. I usually do not try anything outside Chinese or Italian when it's other than Indian food, but this place offers a mix. Havent heard much about the dishes but the sizzlers are pretty nice. The desserts choices are less but worth a try. the place is pretty expensive & am sure there would be a lot of repeated customers

Serene ambiance

If you want respite from the heat, you should sit under the cool environs of Dewberrys and sip a strawberry mocktail. The Sundried tomato and olive oil pasta here is the best i have had in the city. It's a good place to go to in the evenings to enjoy a gentle breeze and some quiet.

decent food, good ambience

so, here i was walking down rdhakrishnan salai and i see this board saying dewberry's! i liked the font and thought of trying it out.. reached around 7 in the evening and the place was EMPTY! not a single person in it!!! liked the place though. very nicely lit. and the outdoors looked like a nice cosy place!!! However, i took the indoor seating to beat the heat. And the ac was off! on requesting them, they did switch it on! Asked for the menu and i received a menu card which looked like it hasnt been changed since many years! Felt i needed to wash my hands after using that menu card!!! :p They need to change their menu cards!!!

However, coming to the food now, i ordered a pasta in pesto sauce and a mint based drink! i just loved the drink! it was really nice and came in one of those wide rimmed glasses with salt on it. really nice it was.

the pasta is pesto sauce was decent. nothing to rave about. it basically, lacked salt and the cheesiness could have been more. however, on adding salt and chilli flakes, it did taste better.

and since i was the only one, i actually got an opportunity to ask for a channel of my choice to watch on tv and they actually oblliged!

will i be back? i think so! just to give this place another chance! :)

Great food, Good ambience, Worth a visit

I was looking for a different sort of a dining place in contrast to the usual pizza, burger joints, and after seeing reviews (and counter reviews ;) ) on 'Burrp' for this restaurant, I decided to pay a visit.

Although located in a slightly interior area, it is still quite accessible being very close to City Center, and the approach really shouldn't be an issue. Although their outdoor unit looked quite welcoming, we preferred to take the indoor AC unit as it was hot and humid. The interiors, although simple and minimal, is very clean and well maintained. Although I wouldn't go there with a huge group of friends, because the interior hall is small and loud voice can echo, and prove to be a disturbance for other guests. (Ambiance - 3/5)

The waiters are quite efficient, and we did not have any issues with the service, or with the waiting time for the food, so no complaints there. (Service - 4/5)

With regard to the food, why on earth would they name themselves as a Resto-Cafe is beyond me.The place has more amazing choices than a lot of the other competition, and appending the word "cafe" only discouraged me from going there before this, else I would have tried it out long back. The taste, quality was all amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the food, though you might want to think twice about ordering a cheese / white sauce based pasta / dish, cos they seem to be very bland and lacking in salt. When I had mentioned this to the manager, he gave the accessories (salt / pepper/ chilli flakes) and suggested I add it myself, although, I would have preferred they take back the dish, add the accessories uniformly in the kitchen, and return the dish. Perhaps with this exception, the remaining time was spent very nicely, and I would definitely recommend this place, for at least one visit if not more. (can tend to get pricey, if u r not careful with the order). Food - (4.5 / 5)

Overall experience: (4 / 5) and definitely worth a try.

Was not allowed to step inside!

Me and My husband decided to visit dewberry's on Saturday night ( 26th May) for the first time after seeing some good reviews here. When we tried to enter, we were stopped by two guys who said they were the security and we were told that they had instructions from the restaurant that no one was to be allowed inside.

We thought that maybe there was a private party going on, and then saw a few couples walk out after dinner.

When we asked the guys why we were not allowed to enter, he went in to talk to the management and came back to ask us if we were willing to wait on the road for half an hour inorder to get in.

The place looks pretty good from outside, but doesnt the management have the basic courtesy to let the guests enter the restaurant and ask for a table?? Also, if the security has been asked to stop guests from entering, it would be nice if they had a valid reason!! We would have been willing to wait inside the restaurant, but asking the guests to wait on the road is insulting to say the least. Don't know if i'd want to visit the place again.

2nd visit

The crispy vegetables were absolutely awesome, but a little oily for comfort, nevertheless, enough quantity for two. Ordered two drinks, the cold choco and lemon and mint, both were good. Then ordered pasta, magic mushroom. Good quantity, only that i expected more white sauce but ended up getting more cheese than white sauce, tasted good though. Good quiet place to head out for a weekday lunch!

Worst place I ever visited, served rotten eggplant

Its surprising how this place gets 5 stars from so many people - when you actually visit it, the restaurant doesn't seem any successful. We went on a Sunday evening - and apart from us, there were only 2 other tables filled. Both with college couples, one working away on something and another chatting over beverages. It was clear none of the two tables were occupied for serious dining. This on a Sunday evening - from 7 to 8.45 pm. We should have taken the cue and walked out.
Unfortunately we did not. We ordered one of their fruitlettes, a standard tomato-and-olive bruschetta starter and veggie saslik. First, they do not understand what a 'crepe' is. For the uninitiated, wikipedia desrcibes crepes as 'a type of very thin pancake, usually made from wheat flour (crêpes de Froment) or buckwheat flour (galettes)'. Most good crepes I have had at other places were extremely soft, some made with butter-milk so that they melt in one's mount. What did this place offer us in place of crepes? Tortillas. Yes, rubbery, hard to bite tortillas. When a restaurant has atleast 10 dishes with 'crepe' in its name, all of which the menu describes in great glory, you would expect them to know what they are talking about. Not here. They claim 'fruitlettes' to be their speciality - wait till you order one and notice the stale fruits, knived in too many places to remove the discoloured parts. My 10-yr old cousin would probably cut fruits better than their chef.
The veggie saslik had rotten eggplant in it. Both the veggie saslik and bruschetta had one overpowering taste - a horribly done tomato paste, which not only tasted yuck but left us with a stomachache (or was it the rotten vegetables that was the culprit?). I have had the same tomato-basil-olive bruschetta at other places and the tomato sauce is usually delightfully light with extremely subtle flavours. So if you want food that feels extremely uncomfortable heavy on your stomach, head to this place.
The staff was as it intrusive as it gets - some manager-level person would walk past us every 5minutes, emerging from a different door each time. The waiters stood at a distance, but they were constantly staring at us. Understandable perhaps given that there were no other people anyway.
Summary of my visit? A 700 buck hole in our wallets for one starter and two dishes, to get rotten vegetables, horrible sauces and a considerably long-lasting stomach-ache. Burrp, I am losing my faith in thee.

Hi rkirti
My apologies on you not having a good dining experience at Dewberry’s. We are equally surprised when you say that you have had such a terrible experience. Also we would have really appreciated if you had voiced this to our manager or atleast left us a feedback form. We address every customer’s requests as well as complaints. Incase they have not enjoyed their meal, we replace the dish and at times we don’t charge them for what they did not like as we believe that customers expectations are sometimes different from what is off

The guy was spookily dropping by every 5 minutes - he did not have any name tag or ID, so we had no way to ascertain if whether he was owner or manager.

Quite happy!

The ambiance is good! Not too crowded, very calm and secluded. Perfect date spot!
Not too easy to find the place( Inspite of the small sign board they put in main road!)
First, we ordered a pink blush and an ice tea. Was pretty good.
Service can be better. They took more than half an hour to serve the starters, which was followed by our main course in 5 minutes!
( Unless you wanna rush somewhere, its good! )
But the food was delicious. No complaints! The quantity is pretty good too!

Pros : Ambiance, tasty food, value for money, great place to spend some quality time with a group.
I am not going with "cons" cos there is nothing much to complain about!
Overall : A fine place to hang out !

Just a little disappointing

Dont let the approach road scare you. Once inside its quite nice. Simply decorated, clean, pleasant place with indoor and outdoor seating options. Friendly non-intrusive staff. Varied and interesting menu. Starters were nice. Mocktails disappointed. Steaks were good, not great. Dessert was disappointing. We got lukewarm chocolate not hot chocolate and a dish that was called Darsaan lychee - description was more interesting than the dish which was pretty bad. We paid 2000/- for 4 of us - a bit much for the overall experience.

PARADISE

Took us some searching to find the place, which in fact made it a little interesting for us, as it was nicely tucked away in the by lanes of a very busy road- i personally felt that this was fantastic- as you have a nice calm and cozy place n the heart of the city without the traffic buzz. They have a lovely outdoor ambiance but we opted to sit in the air conditioned section , which apparently is their new add on. The food was good, service excellent , the ambiance very feel good! Loved the overall experience. on the whole my ratings will be as below

Ambiance - 5/5 (outdoor especially)
Food - 4/5
Service - 5/5
Value for Money - 4/5

I personally feel that these guys should promote themselves more as i got to know about them only through friends and never otherwise knew that they existed!

AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was here for my friend's Birthday .The place is really done well with lot of greenery around. They have outdoor and indoor seating.we opted for indoor(a/c).we were 6 friends so we all had different beverages .All were good. Then we ordered the starters .we had bruschetta and marco pollo . we liked the bruschetta (creamy mushroom) and ordered 2 more Then we ordered the Main course 3 pastas and 3 sizzlers all of them were good. Then we had simply choclate as our desert. Nice dinner good and courteous staff . will surely come back and plan to celebrate more Birthdays here. Just one suggestion please do add more paintings on the wall to make it look more attractive.

Nice time!

First because the board was removed, so we had problem as i forgot if i had the correct lane. But we got thru and finally found it..
I Was very amazed with the environment of the restaurant, as in spite of the heat there was coolness around.
The food- Well they have amazing mocktails nd juices.. The fruitlette we ordered 'original sin' was okay.. it was all chocolaty with pancakes. Personally i thought it was too chocolaty but my friend (who loves chocolate) was happy with it. Also the veggies shashlik was well cooked and tasty. Overall we had a nice time.
The only drawback was the size of the servings offered. Its very less for the price we paid.
Also some music would be an add on. :)
Service was very warm... Definitely coming again!

i love it!

The first time i went there was some 3 months back with my friends. i loved the place the very second i entered. it was a bright day, but this place was so cool and green. loved the open concept of the cafe. i ordered just a drink as i had to rush home. n it was CHILLY TWIST! i just luved it! it was the right mix of lime and green chilly! it was amazing....
as i left the place, i decided to visit the place again, with my fiance....

And yes i did. I took my fiance to this lovely place on his birthday. (6th september '11). we were four of us. I had called up that morning to reserve a table and asked them if they could arrange for a candle light dinner. first, i was told that they have it only on friday nights. but later, i was promised to have it arranged that evening! :) thanks to the hotel management for it.

we ordered 2 starters. one was a chicken and chips starter. and the other was also a chicken starter, but i dont remember the exact name. both were good - served really hot n we loved it.

main course. i ordered a chicken funghi sizzler : was served really hot. i loved the mushroom sauce on the crispy fried chicken. the herbed rice tasted different too.
my fiance ordered a chicken sashlik and he loved it! i loved the mexican sauce and the rice served with it. and our friends ordered chicken pasta and that was yumm too!

And yes. I had a chilly twist this time too! :D i love it so much!

2 starters + 3 main courses + 1 drink - came upto Rs.1100.

overall, it was a very good experience and i will definitely frequent this place and also suggest it to my friends.
Value for money.
good ambience.
Food is too good.

Thumbs up! :)

my suggestions to the management :
-it will be good if u have some soups included in ur menu.
-quantity of food (especially the starters) could be increased. we felt the quantity was less for the price we paid.
-wud love the place more if i cud listen to some soft music as we dine.

Thank you for your detailed review and rating! Your feedback is much appreciated. Kindly note that we usually play background music but due to the renovation work being carried out to bring in the air-conditioned dining section, we land up with temporary glitches, like the other day where we were unable to connect the music system to the speakers.
we are coming up with a new menu, with lot more varieties, and we will definitely look at adding soups in it. Looking forward to have you at Dewberry's again! Cheers!

EVENING WELL SPENT

I was there on saturday nite with my wife and her friends. Dewberrys is got a good ambiance and place is also clean. we ordered few beverages of crushed ice and milk both were good. For starters we ordered panner elfrito and tripepper . i loved the paneer elfrito. for main course i asked the manager to suggest us their signature dish and he quickly told me that el bandido chicken sizzler is the dish and my wife said lets try and we concluded saying MUST TRY.....we did order paneer sizzler too which was ok..we finished our evening with simply chocolate and a fruit plate crepe for desserts. good place and good food overall.

Dear Judi

Thank you for your review and we are happy that you enjoyed your evening. Just to keep you informed that we are coming up an air-conditioned dining section as well very soon!

A must visit place.

I had came here yesterday night for dinner for my friends b'day. We had a nice cozy place as we wished. We then wanted to order the food but we had to wait for some time as no one gave us the menu card. We had to ask them twice for the menu card.
Then we started off ordering the starters & the coolers. 1. Fish n Chips - This was mouthwatering :) a well cooked fish with a good fries. 2. Chicken Tortillas - Not as great as expected but was ok... while eating we had doubts if it was veg or chicken as we hardly felt some chicken in our mouth...The cheese was the one which kept us eating it more and more.
Coolers - Love in a Berry was told good by my friends but i hardly had a sip cuz am not a great fan of berries.
Chilly Twist - An amazing and outstanding drink that i ve ever had. It had a perfect amount of spice added. Enjoyed every sip of it :).

Main Course - Chicken Cordon Bleu - Had a good taste but would have been better with a little more of spice in it and also the quantity was kinda less. The funny part was, this dish was served a bit late. We forgot the name of this dish so we asked the waiter "We ordered some Chicken something Bleu and we have nt got it yet" and the waiter replied " Ah...ok...the Chicken something Blue is getting ready". We laughed our asses out on his reply ;)

Chicken A la Kiev - This I actually thought it was bad. but i guess this is how it is supposed to be though i dint like it much. My taste buds were nt addicted to this one.
Finally the El Bandido Chicken Sizzler - The best dish which i had in dewberry's that night. Had a good amount of spice in it and was server great. Loved the food a lot. All i can say is that, it is a perfect sizzler one should have.

We dint order for deserts as we were running outta time and had to make a quick move.
The manager(i guess) was kind enough to ask us about the food taste while having it.
All i can say is, a must visit place at least once by everyone. An amazing ambiance as i expected from reading in the net.
Suggestions : Please improve the quantity of the main course or decrease the price of it a bit. A little bit over priced for the main courses alone.

Hope to come again soon :)

unsatisfactory

We ordered the tortillas.. one with the panneer and the other with mushroom. What we felt was that the fillings were hot while the outer parathas/chappathi rolls were just cold. Also too much salt in the french fries that I used the tissues to wipe the initial salt and then use the sauce for the same. It doesn't speak good if a restaurant makes a mistake with something as basic as french fries. of course the ambiance was quite and fine.

A Feel-Good Place :-)

Every place has its own good and bad, so as Dewberrys. But this one has more of good than bad. Talking about the GOOD - Chicken grill with the mango sauce was awesome and so as the herb chicken grill (sorry i cannot recollect the names). The main intention was to get a spicy chicken. I would say the purpose was met. Though the fruitlettes seemed tempting from the Menu card, we were full by the time we had the grills. We will try the fruitlettes next time. The devilled fruits in the dessert was innovative. We are planning to try that at home :-) Simply chocolate was also nice. This place can be visited again and again just for their desserts.

Service was a bit slower but I do not want to brand them as "Slow-Servers" just with one experience. After all, the taste was worth the wait. The ambience and the soft music they play make us indulge in a nice conversation and spend some value time. People coming for just the food might find problem with the slow service. But you dont come to this place just for food but to spend some nice time. So no complaints about the slow service. As i mentioned in the feedback form, the taste compensated the delay :-)

I was actually looking forward for the Chilli Twist and Lemon Mint. But it was told that ice was not available. i was a bti disappointed. No issues with that.

A prompt message from the management the very next day feeling sorry for the delay that i had mentioned in the feedback was too much and unexpected. Nice "extra step" taken by the management to make sure we visit again.

I would definitely recommend this place for a quite and nice dinner. Would love to come back especially on a rainy day :-)

Customer Service???

Lets start with the bad...metal wire in the food...bought to the managers attention...who does not even ask to replace the dish (only says sorry) and goes ahead and charges my brother for the dish...who was nice enough to forgive and pay...what utter rubbish...not sure how this is great customer service...

A Chilli lemon drink was to have only a hint of chilli, but it was more like a hint of lemon and a pound of chilli. Only 2 options for veggie deserts of which one is with alcohol.

The only saving grace were the starters, which were really good. Ofcourse, I'm talking only about the vegetarian dishes.

With all due respect, you've been provided incorrect information by your team. The dish with the foil (as you claim) was never finished by us. I had ordered the dish and I know we did not finish it. Why would anybody coming to a decent restaurant as yours come and eat food with foreign objects? Second, the chilli twist was never asked to be spicy...I clearly remember, that the discussion was "do you have a spicy drink" and the chilli twist was suggested and it was taken. And as I had mentioned in the earlier review,

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Was there on weekend......nice ambience, felt alfresco would be a problem because of the heat but then really did not feel the heat because of the greenery around and breezy atomsphere.....starters were awesome(veg tortellini and cheesy garlicky).....ordered for pasta and burgers both were good and filling.......the servers were courteous and friendly.....but the service could have been little faster......nice experience overall......will surely visit again.....

Highly Overrated!

Reading all d reviews, I planned to visit Dewberry's and did on my Bday!! One of the most sadd bdays i'd ever experienced!
Disappointed with the ambiance... thought it was sea facing and on d roof top given all d description below!
Our Prawn starter was jus way too saltyyy to taste but still I hogged on it coz i was dead hungry, and I did ask d guy there.. he jus smiled.... D drinks were much better.. Bubblegum flavored drink and True Blue (blueberry)
D main course.. read SIZZLERS...
I was happy seeing the menu since they had a lotta variety on d menu and quickly ordered for 2 sizzlers!
"SURPRISE"!!!! d Sizzlers were served on a normal white ceramaic plate.. My frnd and I were shocked.. and re read d menu.. "SIZZLERS" it said WTF!!!... I asked d waiter why were we served on NORMAL plates when it is supposed to be a sizzler oriented dish and repeated myself thrice since he wasn't able to understand English.. some Northie descent...
he jus smiled and said sorry ma'am.. Wow! wat customer service.. nice smile they have as a trademark with the ready made SORRY...Phew!! I finishd my meal and swore am never goin back!!
To my surprise! I found d burrp certificate in there! DUHHH!!! Phulezzeee!! There are many other places that deserve more!

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.
However i am afraid that there are few a things that you have probably assumed/ misinterpreted

1. We have never advertised or communicated that we are a sea facing restaurant or a roof top restaurant.

2. We traced your bill and you have visited us on the 27th of May. You have placed orders for the main course from our GRILLS section - Chicken Al Capone and Chicken Cordon Bleu. Both these dishes are not sizzlers. Only some of the grills are ser

COOL SUMMER AFTERNOON

Being a little skeptical about an outdoor resto in summer , a few friends and I landed for lunch at this place. To our surprise the place was pretty cool, thanks to a few things they have worked on. 2 of us tried the combo lunch which was good and 3 other chose from the regular menu. Everything was good except that we felt the pasta could have been more saucier .

The service was quick, staff cheerful and great ambience!

April 15, 2011response from management at Dewberry's - The Resto-Cafe:

Dear Burrper

Please note that the afternoons are not hot and in fact quite pleasant due to the trees and the sea breeze. In addition to that we have a misting line which keeps the place cool and also the fabric we use on the tents over the seating area cuts down the heat a lot.

Looking forward to see you this weekend :)

Lazy Saturday afternoon well spent...

I was hornswoggled into stepping in dewberrys by this louse ((that's right, you know who you are) who assured me that they would serve sizzlers and alcohol. They don't do alcohol apparently (that chump!) but I did get my sizzler. And how! It didn't announce itself loudly enough though. And it wasn't the best I had had (that would be in varkala). In fact, to be quite honest it was rather mediocre. But you should know this about me - I am the most indifferent foodie ever. It's not about the food. It rarely is. Unless the food is really really so bad that you start to notice it. It's all about the quality of the time you spend there- At least that's how it's with me. And in that respect, Dewberrys is top notch. It's cozy yet open, breezy and cool (the 'misting line', as i learned it is called, was a bit disconcerting at first, but then i kinda got used to it), quiet (late saturday afternoon) and really relaxed. The music is good and stays in the background, like it should. I don't know to what extent all this would still hold true, say, on a busy saturday evening. Maybe I should go check it out. Yes, I definitely will, I think. The menu definitely deserves another chance (my friend assures me his lasange was brilliant and i still haven't been able to find a hazelnut cold coffee of equal excellence anywhere else). If only they had given me my beer (and let me smoke a bit in one corner), i would be too tipsy to notice that the sizzler was below average and an even more merry time could have been had by all :D

P.S - By the way, I was worried sick about the mist and the electric fan (open extension cord and everything) - you know, the whole set-up. A fire at dewberry's won't be much of a strain to escape but it WOULD be highly inconvenient. ok, maybe i am paranoid but someone must look into this :-/

Hi!

Thank you fo rthe feedback & Sorry about your disappointment regarding alcohol! In Tamilnadu , stand alone resturants are not eligable for procurring the liquor license. Secondly the mist line is very much a safe thingy- the water evaporates as soon as it is out of the nozzle and hardly touches any surface and they are extremely minute droplets . It will not be the cause for short circuit or a fire. Also we are working on providing a small corner for our smoking customers and will be up and running soon. :)

Refreshing

I heard about Dewberry's on FM 104.8, and went last Friday to check out this place with my family. What I liked about this place is that they are extremely accommodating and are very courteous. Food was good and there was enough privacy for us to enjoy a quiet evening as a family.

I strongly recommend checking out this place if you are on the look out for a refreshing new experience.

A suggestion to them would be to work out some way to make the place mosquito free.

Thanks.

Dewberry-Hell's Kitchen (Not)!

Dewberry reminds me of the tubby guy who got his a** kicked in Hell's Kitchen!
Was there one afternoon post a week of weary Real-Estate negos on a piece of property that has been a toothache for years. So much for all the back slapping ,palm pressing, hand holding, air kissing routines ,suffice to say the Indian Government is " the great Leveller". Whether you have or have not : they do things at their own pace and you can choose to 1)live with it. or 2) live with it. Anyways, Legal Insanity completed : time for some peace out.
I thought I was cutting it a little too close to comfort when I managed to locate the place @ 2:30. How I dread a kitchen shutdown @ 3 and polite nothings!
Not so. Looks like they are open 11-11 (from what the steward told me).

The Place:
1)Afternoon is a great time : if you are paranoid about crowds.Luck is also a factor sometimes. Amicably, both clicked. Got set bang opposite the kitchen and was duly given my card. Did notice that you guys have your website and your Menu card designed about the same. Neat little sections that you can get to without flipping tons of pages. All sections (read :Drinks, Appetizers, Maincourse and Dessert options) are pretty evenly distributed. Nice job keeping it slim. Since most of the times : an extensive menu means people get overwhelmed by the choices that are available and pick only from around the first four pages. Sensible use of a table card as well. A regular can pick a popular dish on the get-go.
2)Goes well again, with the al fresco theme. Alfresco is a great way of saying "NO AC" : but evidently: it makes sense here, as their food does involve options of a lot of fruits and in so, keeping it non heavy. Although their sauces are an exception.
3)Nice touch with the Juice Bar and your Color Bar stools.Your flavours in different grooves : as are the bar stools.
4)An Umbrella Rack :About the only other place I've seen that is Elements in Benson Town.Thoughtful.
5)Music makes sense. Chennai has a reputation of ill fitting music which either varies from M&B styled croons to their addiction to Retro Rock. Almost everywhere you go,an advertisement will say "relaxed" only to find GNR or Alice Bloody Cooper braying @ concert levels.Thankfully Dylan and (his) Volume are well moderated although I hope this was a selection and not a worldspace-zoid radio channel.
6) Was offered a feedback card , which was politely refused.
7)Of all the places I've been to : by far: these are the heaviest cutleries Ive had to use. They could be wrought Iron for all I care:)
8) Thanks for not having Booze on the Menu. Apart from the fact that the LL is probably not allowed on independent joints: for a city that hasnt caught on to the 'moderate drinker' concept, your regulars ,over time ,will become an issue to reckon with.

The Food:
1) Water in Old fashioned glasses. Thats Nice.Have not seen a lotta places do that.
2)Asked your steward for a coke. He says they dont stock any aerated drinks :(. A resto thats that strict about what they serve? Make of it what you will. Anyways : Got the garrulous looking Lemon and Mint cooler (w) crushed ice in a Margherita Glass with a salt rim as well. Half expected to taste a Grand Mariner. :)
3) For the Appetiser : I had a Pollo Hawaiian ( Forgive the addiction to the Dominoes listing ) as Chicken and Pineapple have that effect on me :)Chicken and Pineapple strips which were a nice mix and their White Mayo Sauce and Red Tabasco-ish Sauce that were not so Subtle.
4) They did not have a Non vegetarian Pesto option for their Maincourse, but your squad was (helpfully) accomodative. I wanted a Pesto Fusilli with Chicken and it was made-to-order. Although your steward kept pointing at a 'walnut option' on the Menu : which I realized soon enough that it was from a billing perspective. No Qualms on that. Bill me what you want! Their Pasta Variants are the standard FuPS (Fusilli,Penne and Spaghetti). I'm not sure if it was the effect of the Pineapple on my entree or if the sauce was not particularly noteworthy : but the pesto seemed almost drained down.I am not going to Succumb to the notion that a greener Pesto is Better: but adding more butter will increase thickness and reduce flavour.(Non secular accusation here!). It was bland however which was the way I wanted it. I was half expecting an overdose of Pepper which was not the case. The piece of bread that was along the rim was curio-ish however: I'm not sure if it was for consumption or presentation :). I didnt have the heart to ask for more given the let down on the sauce.
But all in all pretty good sized portions. Which lead me to skip the dessert/espresso.
5)I am sorry if I cant state exact names. The website only previews sections. And there are a lot of names for the same types of combinations, each unique to their restaurants USP.If I remember correctly, almost all the options as far as the sauce is concerned are Rich.
6) Burrp! certified average of 4 : with enough reviews on the payroll. Men lie, Women cheat: numbers dont!

Few Questions:
1)Did your menu say "an appetizer(something) :while your entree is being made?" coz I thought it meant the same thing. Atleast in an informal establishment.
2)How did the tortoises get a moss coating over them? Or is that Korean Grass?!
3)While you are at it, pass on my compliments to your stewards: who run the place well in the absence of high command. They must be hitting the gym a little too hard ,they tie the serviette too tight. I understand its coz you can keep your cutlery sets well: but honestly its a little too tight to unwind.
4) Also, curiosity notwithstanding, its Mid-Feb (and we all should be greatful that the heat has not started in full swing): but the days are getting warmer nevertheless. since this is a relatively new joint: have you guys thought about "Fresco" dining from March thro July? Your table fans will not keep it going for sure: You should think of atleast getting some "mist fans".While your drinks are kewl, they might not necessarily keep the people pacified for long!

and A suggestion:
Al fresco is a very dicey concept here . It caters to a subculture that does not want the usual Indian fare : but whose palettes have not adjusted to a more Neutral frame (yet). Having said that I think for most part, the only times you have received extremely negative reviews was when your audience expected a more spiced up / Salty fare and were disappointed (apart from a few genuine (_._)holes!) There is obviously no easy way to fix this .But it would be helpful if your waiters "asked" your audience specifically if they preferred a spiked affair or if they were ok with it being bland, except on the most obvious of dishes.I prefer it bland: and obviously I am not complaining as far as that is concerned. Unfortunately, some peoples perception of paying competitive pricing and better environs mean they cannot differentiate between 'food' and 'condiment requirements',despite the fact that the spicy ones are listed with a red dot. (Maybe the layout of your card being dark : makes it difficult to locate the dot :)).Also I'm presuming your crowd is the usual mix of the IT/Society/Dads Money/''I dont know but I still need to opinionate' types. This is a typical spread @ any place. But dont embrace all suggestions and stick to your USP. Whats your best yardstick? If over a period of time : you see only the repeat types comming in : You know youve done something terribly right (or significantly wrong).

4 : For having the cojones to attempt to teach Chennai there is a 'mod option' that exists between Heavy Spice Biryani/Supposed Chinese/Mexican and Porridge.
Lots of work ahead if you want to keep your trend up: if its worth your while.
And should your "signature" fruitlettes and stacks on my inconspicuous visit in the distant future not disappoint : it will be a 5 next time around.

Great place for a dinner date

I found mixed reviews for the place, so I decided to be a little brave and try it. The ambiance is excellent as far as Chennai restaurants go (awesome for a valentine's dinner), and the staff were courteous and prompt with service.
Ordered Tortillas(average) and Cheese garlic bread(delightful) for starters. Lasagnacrepe and pastas were off the charts, and the drinks were very innovative. Dessert, too, was pretty good.
Listen to the staff's suggestions with the order, you won't regret it.
Overall it's good value for money(except the 10% service charge which a lot of restaurants are adopting. You tip whether you like it or not).
I'm definitely going back there soon.

Gonna give it one more try.

We went with very high hopes. We came out with mixed feelings. Some of it was good. Some of it,not so good.
Its a nice place for a quiet lunch.Thankfully, the place was not crowded. The music could be a little better.OR not there at all.And the lighting is really good.
So,anyway, lets get down to business.Order one : Bruschetta. Really really good. Order two : Crepelasagna. the sauce saved it. Order three : Old Mcdonalad. Best burger I've had. :) Order four : some chicken thing (I didnt try it) but from what I heard,it was good. And finally, the fruit crepe with strawberry-yoghurt sauce-it looked so adorable, didnt want to upset the dish.anyway,it was...very innovative.kinda bubblegummy taste.Methinks, kids would love it.. :)
So yeah,I could go again for the burgers and the fries..
I hope it stays quiet. And also, getting attention from the service would get a little easier.
All in all, mixed feelings is what defines the state of mind right now. :)

Great Experience - New Year Eve

Since I had grown out of noisy celebrations of the New Year Eve, I thought of spending this New Year Eve in a peaceful way. I happened to see the advertisement of Dewberry's about their candle light dinner and I decided to go for it with my wife. Children of course had their own plans.
I would say it was a great memorable experience taking us back to our younger romantic days. The ambiance, lighting, service and food were above par and were befitting the occasion. I don't remember having such a great dining experience in the recent past. I would definitely give it a 5 star.

Breads brown in color are brown breads

Breads brown in color are brown breads

Went with my friend for lunch and really impressed with the ambience and the variety they have...Unfortunately, the waiter dont have much knowledge on what they server and what is there in their shelves..Being a Veggie, I was checking on the Veg items and couldnt get any help from the waiter who attended us. Later he brought in someone else who was willing to explain the menus..I was checking with him on the availability on the Brown bread for the sandwich. The waiter said, "Yes they do". I asked for a Veg Grill sandwich without Cheese and Mayonnaise. He said he would prepare with additional vegetables to compensate..

All what I received was a sandwich with the normal white bread with few pieces of vegetables exactly 2 nos in each of them.. When I checked with him, he said it is brown bread only.... Probably, the breads with brown color on top would be brown breads for them I guess... Looks like the waiters needs to be trained..

One another factor is, the value for the money is definitely not met both in terms of quality and quantity...

Peppery

This place was in our wish list for a few weeks. Finally made it on a weekday. We were seated outside under some different looking tents. Waiter said there is no seating inside, ever. The menu looked cool. We ordered some chicken starter expecting it to be dry and crunchy but it was served with a creamy sauce on it and should be moved under the main course section. The maincourse we ordered were a pasta and another chicken dish with mashed potatoes and veggies I think. We found that all the items had lots of pepper in it hiding the actual flavours of the food and may be they think that south Indians like it spicy. Loved the lime mint juice though.

Overall, it was an ok experience.

Flawless

If you read below, you will find that I had written a review about my previous experience at Dewberry's titled - Incredibly Disappointed. After I wrote that review, what ensued between the owner Ms Kavitha and I was a cat and mouse game...she telling me to please visit her outlet again to give them another chance and me trying hard to refuse. Well, Kavitha finally won and this afternoon, my friends and I decided to give Dewberry's another go.
I can now safely say, that I am a changed person. As a person who has worked as a food critic, I do take my food very seriously. But what I find most important is the way in which it is served.
And Kavitha is a stunning and glowing example of service with a smile. Not only did she apologise profusely, personally call me up and invite me again for lunch, she even oversaw our service and ensured that everything that was served to us was pitch perfect.
As we all told her, I would like to reiterate that there are very few restaurants that aim at pleasing their customers in such a persuasive, almost dogged way. This is what you called CUSTOMER SERVICE. Take a bow Dewberry's, and others, maybe a page out of their book. Kudos!

A second & third visit to Dewberry's

This was my second review of Dewberry's and I actually wanted to go a couple of times to be able to give a true rating to this place.

I was able to go on the 20th (for dinner) & 21st (for lunch) and I must say that both the visits were worth every rupee spent. The weather gods also contributed to the good experience as it was after the rains and very cool.

The service levels were apt, the way the menu was described was very good and of course the food that followed was awesome.

I tried out two Chicken dishes for dinner (I honestly can't remember the names) along with the Chilli twist which was amazing. This was topped up with a desert at the end. I had the ice cream with a brownie (which is very good to share amongst two people)

On Saturday lunch, I tried out the Gardenia Jalape, Paneer El Frito & Patata Sizzler. All the dishes were very well prepared, apt quantity for two hungry people (you can manage with one dish less if you are not that hungry) with a Chilli Twist again.

The owner was very kind enough to come and greet us which again proves how well connected they are to their customers. Hats off to them for understanding their customers and taking there feedback very seriously.

I would go for 5 star rating.......on the cost front, one should expect 300~350 per head (inclusive of a drink & desert).

It's a nice place to enjoy a meal, spend around 90 min & enjoy a nice chat over a meal.

Cheers

Manoj

AWESOME RAINY AFTERNOON

The weather being great for an outdoor experience , 6 of us landed at Dewberrys, late this afternoon. we comfortably parked ourselves on the neat wooden chairs and settled in cozily. It started to rain and we throughly enjoyed our food watching the splitter splatter ....

We ordered for a couple of starters and some sizzlers which were really hot and welcoming in this climate. A special mention to their chicken with mushroom sauce - it was remarkably well made and balanced ! what i personally like is that each plate was just right for one person , i suppose that is how they had designed it.. it was neither too much nor too less, this way we did not land up wasting any food.

The magic mushroom pasta was the favorite among the veg dishes. The strawberry drink also needs a special mention here .Finally for the desserts ,we ordered a couple of crepes which were outstanding with a whole lot of fruits.

Ambience scores a 6 on 5 and the service was also pretty good.

To sum up we had one ball of a time.

After much hype and hoopla, a couple of friends and I decided to check out Dewberry's one sunny afternoon. Ravenous, and wanting to vent about a bitchy boss, all of us were geared for coffee, cheese steaks and more. Off we trotted and found ourselves at Dewberrys.

With a vast and extensive menu, what I will give the team at Dewberry's is that they have come up with a menu which has something for everyone. But that, sadly, is also their shortcoming. Because not one, and I repeat NOTHING that we tasted on the menu was worth its salt (In my case, I got salt only after I went up to the counter and got it myself).

We ordered a portion of cheesy, garlicky bread, an alternate topping on bruschetta and a portion of fries. Both were extremely small in terms of portion and absolutely lacked ANY taste. In fact, the bruschetta bread was soft and the cheese dry. The banana and oats shake that a friend ordered smacked of absolutely no originality and had a crust of bournvita on top. Determined not to let our initial impression leave a bitter taste in our mouth, we ordered a portion of pesto penne and a chicken steak which was supposed to be stuffed with something, I don't remember what (but then again, it was not worth remembering either).

My penne was overcooked, the pesto was gooey and runny (quite a feat to achieve both at one go, don't you think) and had exactly 3 sliced black olives. Even though we did manage to finish it, we were terribly disappointed. Our friend on the other hand got a chicken steak that was uncooked (on asking they said it was poached and hence it had that flavour and colour), insipid and he REFUSED to finish it. We did complain to the manager who merely said 'Ok', no comments card, just our cheque. Now that I have vented, I will tell you my basic problem with a place such as Dewberrys.

Staff that looks absolutely disinterested in serving you and are trained to say just a few words: No, Can't, Not Available
A beautiful setting that could have people walking in by the droves if only the food were palatable
Prices that do NOT justify the portions

I really hope the management does something to improve the quality and standard of the food at a place that I personally believe has the potential to become a success, if only it had something substantial to offer on the plate.

Dear Foodpsycho

Sorry that you did not enjoy your visit to Dewberry's. We were able to trace your visit with the bill and i got to know you had come with one of our regular guests who would have vouched for our food. We will look into the different ascpects that you have highlighted! We want to assure you that your next visit will be a satisfying one and i will appreciate it if you notify me of your next visit , so that i can personally try and make up for the bad time you had during your last visit.

The management is def

Just Average

For pictures and more reviews, do visit: http://www.couchpotatoesonthemove.blogspot.com/

To celebrate Banker Madam's old age (and propelled by the good reviews that this place has received) a bunch of us descended on Dewberry's. The restaurant is located in the backyard of a bungalow in Mylapore. The outdoor seating is pretty and the lights at night add a nice touch.

We decided to skip the starters and head straight to the main course. The service at the place was a big disappointment. It was incredibly slow and the waiters were a little clueless. Dishes got mixed up and there was much confusion. Some of the items arrived so late that others were almost done with theirs.

The basil was not at all discernible in the tomato and basil pasta. It was very peppery and the sauce was just OK. The Pasta Garden jalapenos was another let down. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. The pasta needed more salt and the flavour was very forgettable. While there was a hint of spices in the sauce, a little more definitely needs to be added.

The Chicken Siciliata continued the trend. The chef seems to have been a little too free with the pepper that night. The sauce was bland, low on salt and I strongly recommend that you give this a big miss.

The two dishes that we did like were the double cheese lasagne and the Paneer Brazilia Sizzler. The sheets of cheese and veggies in the lasagne appeased our taste buds and the sizzler had a nice spicy flavour (thankfully, salt and pepper were added in the right proportions). Neither dish was mindblowingly good but they were pretty decent.

The crepes at Dewberry's are definitely its saving grace. 'High on Hawaii' was fruity crepe topped with honey and syrup. The presentation was great and the accompanying fresh fruits were a big bonus. The Valentino crepes were my personal favourite. They had a lovely apple-Cinnamon stuffing with a thick layer of strawberry youghurt on top. The crepes were nicely cooked and avoided being oversweet.

A special mention to the Chilly Twist drink here. The drink consists of green chilly on ice and is sure to add a zing! to your meal. Some might find it a little too spicy but it is definitely something to be tried at least once.

The loo here is OK but I think that a restaurant of this kind should definitely do better than just OK.

My problem with Dewberry's was not that the food was bad but that it was very average and forgettable. Yes, there were notable exceptions and some of it was good. However, for the prices that it charges, the food needs to be consistently good. I definitely don't want to spend Rs.500 in the hope that this might be the chef's (and my) lucky day.

The crepes at Dewberry's will probably lure me back (and the fact that it has garnered good reviews from many others) but till then it rates as just average in my books.

Pricing: Rs. 400 per person

Good food. Good service

Veggie food was better than NV. We ordered something that had two veggie patties with some fries and steamed veggies.

Ambience was very good, but the place is a bit small. They only have open air dining (with fan). Wonder how it'll be in summer?

The first waiter (the waiter's assistant) was very friendly and pointed us to what's popular there. The second waiter (main waiter) was so so, a bit stiff, neither friendly, nor unfriendly.

The 'let down' was when they auto charged a service charge, which some restaurants do these days. As I am not sure if I should leave more tip or the auto deducted money will entirely go to the waiter. The good dining experience I had until then turned sour when I saw that.

Dear Saravanan

Thank you for dining with us and also for your review. Collecting service charges has become a standard practise in this industry though few customers might dispute that. The service charge collected by us is distributed to both the service and production crew. This way we found the staff more motivated and it creates impartial service to all customers.

We take this oppurtunity to address another point you raised in the feedback form about the sizzlers being very hot! We had recieved a few comments earlier t

DELIGHT

I was there yesterday and just loved everything about the place - The ambience, food and the music were great!

I also read all the reviews here and i am a little surprised by the one right below mine... I dont see any unprofessionalism in the owners replies - infact they have taken a lot of pain to respond. also i have read great reviews on Dewberrys in a few papers like times and hindu

Any ways i wish Dewberry's good luck and Hatz off !!!

Please avoid going to Dewberry's

The ambience and everything is good. But get this:

1. They served a chicken salad while calling it a veg salad, a pure vegetarian thus ate chicken until we found out that it was in fact non veg. Worst thing a waiter could do, don't you agree?
2. food took 40 minutes to 1 hour. each person's dish came separately -- at least 10 mins apart (really guys, is that how you serve a group of four?) The group on the next table which came after us had already paid by the time our last dish came. That means something's wrong with the management of orders.
3. Sour, bitter chicken. The chicken in the sizzler was burnt. The chef himself made an ugly expression when he tasted it in front of us.
4. Absolute apathy from the owner (forgot to ask his name) regarding all these issues raised.
I went to Dewberry's after a friend suggested it..which means it used to be a good place. The management needs to look into where the restaurant is going. And have some respect for dissenting customers.

Spoilt a good saturday evening by going to this resto.
Please avoid, if you can.

When my waiter served this you asked him where were the fruits and he replied in the salad – as it has pineapple in it… Now we are sorry your vegetarian friend consumed it by mistake and it was an accident .Why are you blaming us for that? Also after all the noise you created about it – you went ahead and ordered for a second portion of the same chicken salad

Mr Ajay acknowledged this fact; it seems the waiter was new. We didn't order the second portion, it was given to us by your mgmt since, well, the first one was consumed by the veg party while the non veg people waited for their chicken salad!!

A visit to Dewberry's

Yesterday afternoon was when I went to Dewberry's to check it out. The reviews and feedback were enough to at least inspire me to go once and have a look before I recommend and invite my friends to the place.

My feedback :

1) Look & feel of the place : (4/5) Amazing. The layout was very nice and very conducive for a nice long evening with some good food to eat

2) The Menu (5/5) : A wonderful spread. The menu is true to the theme of Dewberry's. Hats off to the team that designed the menu

3) The Food (4/5) : I had a veg sizzler & a green chilli drink. I would give a 5/5 to the drink and a 3/5 to the sizzler. The only reason for giving a low score to the sizzler was that it lacked the sizzle that you would get at a sizzler specialty restaurant.

4) The service : The service was a little 'dry' and 'slow'. Perhaps I was alone and the time it took for the food to arrive seemed to be quite long, or it would have been a bad day. I had to ask for water after waiting for around 8 min. Also, the music was put on at the fag end of my meal.

I would restrain to give a score on this aspect based on one experience as it would have been a bad day for the staff.

Overall, I would surely go again as I actually liked the place. My next review would be whether I stick to a 3/5 rating or it goes up.

Regards

Manoj

BERRY GOOD! :D

With its classy yet understated decor, muted lighting with an outdoorsy vibe replete with wooden chairs, plants & pebbles Derberry's was definitely off to a good start.Luckily the weather was pleasant, which is crucial as it only has an outdoor area. Our chicken & prawn appetizers were subtle & tasty.Drinks deserve a special mention, especially the 'True blue' was just the right combination of creamy & berries.Main courses, the fish grill & chicken cordon bleu were quite nice albeit a little smaller than expected.Dessert was both sides of the coin-the cheese cake with kiwi sauce was a disapointment, the consistency of the cheesecake & the crust were both faulty. However the fried candybars with icecream more than made up for it,only for sweet tooths who dont count calories however.A little high end,not horribly expensive either.Good, fast service.Special mention to the mellow classic rock playing in the background. All in all,a berry good dining experience :)

Yesterday was my first time at Dewberry's and the place really really impressed me. The ambience is what I dine out for.. am not much of a foodie but the veg. starters here were simply yum. I had love-in-a-berry which was a total thumbs-up again.

PLACE TO CHILL

This is my second visit and also my second review on the place. The last time i was there the heavy rain kind of distracted me from the entire experience!

We had this chicken parcels as starters and I had a red sauce chicken sizzler for main course. My friend had a oriental flavored prawn sizzler and i also carried home a pasta called magic mushroom ! The food was exceedingly good! Even their beverages were awesome.

Given the proximity from my house they have a very regular customer now!

Hello Zbakshi!

Thank you for the review. We are glad you enjoyed the Dewberrys experience!

We have created an outdoor ambience to cater to people who enjoy eating out sitting admist the green -we trust it is very refreshing. As for the heat we have done a lot of planning in terms of a special fabric for roofing - which cuts down the temepartaure to a great extent as well a misting line which keeps the place pretty cool.

Good place for Great times

I was surfing Burrp, to find a good place to have International Cuisine and found a place named "Dewberry's". I received warm welcome on arrival @ dewberry's and later found it was Ajay the co-founder of Dewberry's. I left the food selection to Ajay's choice and felt it was worth it on having the food. I had these honey and barbecue flavoured prawn on sizzler, and it was just awesome. The ambiance of the place was next to none in Chennai as we don't have a decent place with outdoor dining. I well and truly enjoyed my time here and would recommend this place hands down to any one.

Good Food at a Great Price!

Dewberrys is located in one of the side streets opposite Citi Center Mall and can be pretty difficult to find at first. The Ambiance and the Design of the Restaurant is pretty fantastic given the space they had to work with.

We had their smoothies, wraps, lasagna and finished it off with a nice chocolate desert. I personally thought most of the food except the wrap was very good and actually a little underpriced! I really was expecting a larger bill :-)

Also, there is a nice boutique inside the restaurant which helps in killing some time while one is there.

Good food and a Great ambiance make this a nice place to visit for a quiet dinner or lunch. My only complaint which I hope the management looks into is that on the way out, I actually saw a pretty big rat running near one of the tables. Agreed given the outdoor setting it might be common to see one, but really not the thing one wants to see in a restaurant!

A cozy lil cafe to hang out at

Alright so the last I read of this place was the mini battle that went between Food Terrorist and the owner of the place. Honestly more than putting me off about the place, it just irked me more to visit it, cause at the end of the day everyone’s review did mention how good an ambience it had. So I was ready to go with bad food since honestly it wouldn’t have been the first such experience in Chennai and if it were as bad, you can always just end the meal with just drinks and order no more.

We were two of us and as always we were, about to sit on the table for four, I mean why not the place aint full and you get a bigger table to keep your stuff. However, the manager person very politely asked us if we did not mind sitting on the table for two. So we did oblige with that. Make a note only a few days back I walked out of Holy Smoke when 4 of us wanted to take the couch (place for 6) but the guy there was terribly rude about making sure we don’t take that and instead settle for a table for 4. Best part being we were the only people there and the time was 2:40 pm with their lunchtime closing at 3 pm.

Anyways getting back to the review of this place. I would definitely have to mention about the courtesy and way in which the staff there welcome you, it is not over the top but it is subtle and they show they care.

Coming to the drinks, the Blueberry Smoothie was just amazing honestly it was perfect right from the consistency to the flavor it was perfect. Then the expresso rissaaaaaaaaaa whatever it is called really, It was good and strong but served at room temperature, however they had it heated for us when asked for it.

Then came the food, We had a burger named oldboy Macdonald something and it was yum, Am actually not a fan of KFC or Mac or whatever simply cause they just don’t customize the burger, you cant ask for anything to be changed in it except for the weird fact that they insist on getting extra cheese. So here with a good load of Mayo and sauces my friend was quite happy with it.

I had a Sizzler, the name is too French to remember lol but yeah it was something chicken breast being filled with stuff, served with Mexican rice and fries and the other usual stuff topped with oriental spiced sauce. It tasted quite good, Though it’s disappointing to see a sizzler not sizzle, the whole smoke and the aroma that it should have brought along missing takes away half the fun of having a sizzler. So please try and add the whole smokey touch to it else honestly its no better than a chicken main course or maybe even a fancy steak but not a sizzler :( Also you ought to have brown sauce if not added in your preparation at least when asked for, there should be brown sauce to serve with sizzlers. But again if only this was named something else, I wouldn’t have been moaning by back down here, rather would have called it pretty good.

Then the dessert the caramelized pineapple along the custard, I loved the pineapple and my friend loved the custard so in short it was alright, but I would still have wanted the custard a lil more softer maybe creamier I don’t know, maybe its not supposed to be made that way but oh well. But it came with some yum strawberry flavored sauce or whatever fancier term it has in the side and OMFG that was good, lol you probably should bottle that up and serve it alone xD

Since the ambience has been well spoken about here, I aint gonna go on about it. It was good in short, though maybe you could add cushions to your chair, I mean atleast those pillow sorts. . . cause thou the wooden chairs go well with the theme, it is not the most comfortable of lazing options out there.

Other suggestions I could give probably is please get Mustard sauce, you serve so much meat and burgers and pastas but no mustard sauce is rather sad :( Not like every other outlet out there serves mustard sauce, but then not every other seem to do so much as well, so am sure you can.

You serve Cold Wipes, and this is what I mean by saying you try so hard in doing that extra bit others miss out on but please serve them as soon as the customer gets the table. And not later cause you already are cooled down with the fans and also it gives this weird image of you waiting to see if the person orders. I know you aint, so why not serve them right away.

Also I didn’t try the wifi here but am told it is 256 Kbps, like come on that’s just so not a café worthy speed.

(Reply to Food Terrorist, not exactly a part of the review, so you can skip this whole section lol)

Anyways I wouldn’t have written this thing had it not been for Mr (wait not being an MCP here) so Mr/Ms Food Terrorist. So I got to tell you, CHILL. Seriously this is the worst food you’ve had in Chennai? Like seriously? Really I wish I had half as good as luck as you then, cause damn have I found horrible food in this city.

All the earlier review are fake or in the way you put it Fake ! Fake ! and Fake. . . I did what you said and checked your profile. After the rave review you gave to Tuscana, ( the so called fine dining where the tables are so close you can’t but help listen to the guy on the next table talk or each time he moves his chair it nudges your back) you took a break of almost 4 months before you wrote a review to another place. So in your words anyone who read your review till then should have called you Fake ! Fake! and Fake.

Then you spoke about the cookies tasting as bad as homemade cookies, I don’t know about you but from what I’ve heard lately home baked cookies are more expensive than the Britannia ones and such. So if they really did taste like home baked ones, they really should have pulled off a good job there.

Then the way you go about Only good part being the ambience very next paragraph you say only good part being the service, why can’t we end it at the only part you didn’t like about the place was the food.

The day light robbery, so let me guess a 700 buck pasta at Park Sheraton, the 280 buck cheese cake at Sandy’s, the 400 buck pasta at Tuscana or a 200 buck bread loaf at your small lil wonder named Crust, Isn’t ? If you ever write back don’t tell me am comparing this place to Park or any other cause am not, all am saying is food today in most of the places are on an expensive side and this place is no different. Am sure you were given a Menu to order so I do not see why you did not just walk out when you found the prices to be robbing you off your wallet. If it was only because the price did not go well along the taste, then it probably was not value for money and still not as big a deal as you seem to make. Ps 100 buck for that blueberry Smoothie am gonna have to swear if you say that’s not value for money but a shitty drink off CCD with a scoop of ice cream that goes over 140 bucks is.

Why in the world does the owner need to come to your table to take down your complaints? That is the job of a manager and since you had an issue with the food, you probably should have called for the chef.

Your language is what hurts a lot, especially when someone who probably isn’t a fan of yours tries to explain and you use phrases like I can’t stand you getting a 5 star or You aint getting away with this. Those just seem to take your review to a whole new level of vengeance of some sort.

Anyways at the end of it all, these guys aint perfect but have a good enough café to pull in people and they have room for improvement but being as new as they are, am sure In time they will get it right or at least I hope so.

Hi!

Thank you for your detailed and encouraging review! Such an in depth feedback goes a very long way in helping us evovle and improve. we are already working on your suggestions of providing cushions as we had a few other customers also suggest the same. Also to provide mustard sauce is a valid suggestion and we will incorporate the same soon with few other accompaniments . We will make sure our sizzlers always sizzle... the distance between the table and the kitchen is a bit and sometimes the sizzle dies down but we will work

GOOD FOOD RUINED BY HEAVY RAIN

Was there last evening with my family to this new resto cafe called Dewberrys ! Beautifully done up place. The food was very yummm and their fruit based dish was something innovative and excellently presented. we also loved the pasta and there was a panneer starter with pineapple which tasted very good. The service was great and staff very friendly! Everything was going well and then came the rains.....the only draw back is that they do not have an indoor seating for times like this. Their outdoor roofing can take only moderate rain and when it started raining heavily we had to re locate to a dryer area in the front.

Dear Andrea

Thank you for your feedback. It is very challenging to run an outdoor cafe! we have already considered your suggestion of an indoor seating area and will definetly implement in our next outlet !

Awful is an Understatement

First things first. I think the first few reviews are all Fake! Fake! and Fake (Pls check profile! except for sagheero. Its a cheap marketing gimmick to get ppl there and test their awful food

This is by far the worst food i have had in chennai! The resto-cafe as they call it, has absolutely crappy food.

Ordered a pasta with cream sauce, the sauce was more like a milk with water sauce. Ordered a paneer starter, which was like a oriental sauce based one. totally not what we expected. it was like eating raw paneer in some random sauce. We were so hungry we wanted to order more but decided not to risk it.

The dessert was another story in itself. simple chocolate or something. i dont remember the name (dont want to either) Had cookie that tasted like it was home made local cookies.

The only best part of the place is the ambience. but the guys who started this have missed a major point. the food needs to be good and then ppl look for an ambience. The pricing was daylight robbery considering the kinda food they make.. there should be some consideration for the kinda food you can actually make and then price them accordingly.

The services was the only good part about the visit. the guys there seems friendly and patiently heard all our complains. The most annoying part was that the owner was standing right there and she did not have the courtesy come and ask yes about the food after her waiters told her we were unhappy.

And if you are thinking that you can get away with a place with good ambience. well think again.

Dear Food terrorist

Your feedback on Dewberrys leaves many issues debatable. Everyone has an opinion to whether they like the food or not but accusing us of cheap marketing gimmicks is way too strong and unacceptable.

How can you prove that all the other reviews excepting yours are fake? However we can prove that each and every review is genuine, as we collect feedback forms from all of our customers (like the one you filled in yesterday with absolutely no contact details) – and we have the contact details of all the

You have mentioned that the service was good/ courteous and the ambience was great. We thank you for the same. When so much effort has been taken to get these two right, it is but common sense that we would have spent much more time on our food as well, which can be vouched for by the 200 serial numbered feedback forms (with contact details /date of visit) from our customers.

In order to run this place professionally, we have hired staff with good experience in this industry, who have been trained intensively in customer care. Th

End of the day, you liked the ambience and the service but the fusion food that we offer is not to your expectation and we respect that opinion of yours. how ever the strong negative review that you have given us within minutes of leaving our restaurant leads us to think that your ego was very badly affected probably because I did not personally come to your table to take your feedback. If you had expressed that you wanted to meet me, I would have definitely come over to your table. It was not intentional to bruise your ego as we believ

The food at your place was terrible, and I can’t stand that a place like this gets 5 starts from ppl who have supposedly reviewed it, without any details about the kinda food that they had! there is no ego here.. its jus we want good food for the kinda money you expect us to pay.. well lets just wait for other genuine burrpers to review this place... As the owner you are suppose to take criticism in the right way and try to improve. pls dont think just cos you have a nicely done up ambience you are going to get away with the food .. as an owne

Awesome find!

I just happened to come across this place on Burrp. It is just in the next lane to my office and I actually had to search for it! Its truly a hidden find coz the ambience was out of the world, better than many cafes I have seen in Bombay. The service was cheerful and whilst I did not try any food on the extensive menu, the desserts n chai were good! Will go there today to try some food as well.
My wife loved the place as well, good to bring your wife or GF along.
Go there if you want to relax on a leisurely afternoon or at night, have something light to eat n drink...chilllll

Your welcome. I was with my friend today and we loved the food. Though we feel you could improve the portions a tad bit more...the tissue popping in glass thingy was a nice touch!

Unbeatable

Expecting a cafe, the previous reviews notwithstanding I was completely overwhelmed by this incredible little place. If you're going on a date or looking for something different this is definitely it. The service was impeccable and prompt. As a former server myself I keep a very close eye on waiters and their attention to detail, quality and customer satisfaction and for the first time in a long time I was impressed. The waiter was even puzzled as to how I had discovered the place when with such good and to be sure forthcoming good reviews on burrp I should think they would get more customers than when I visited. Being a liquor drinker I am not easily impressed by mocktails which always seem to just fall short of the real thing. Dewberrys however completely changed my mind. Their bubblegum smoothie sounds weird but tastes heavenly. Their fruitlettes are another reason to indulge in this 'resto-cafe'. If you're looking for something different in Chennai. This is IT.

cheers kavita, just please open another one up in Bangalore! And if you add a bar, I promise to share all my bartending and table waiting secrets!

Hay Arvind.. we would love to come to Bangalore and infact we are looking for a good franchisee for the same ! And in Bangalore we can definetly look at a bar as Chennai does not give alcohol license to stand alone resturants!

sounds very promising Kavitha, I may be seriously interested in buying a franchise, if the option is still open could you contact me at vet.arvind@gmail.com

Good place to visit which is different.

Its a nice cosy place right in the heart of the city, quietly tucked away in one of the by lanes of Dr Radhakrsihnan Salai. The pesto pasta i ate here was very nice so far the best i had in chennai.
