Eden - for the first time
I have lived in adyar for over 5 years but have never visited Eden. I know i know. Many of my friends recommended it but somehow never got around to it. Finally, decided to have lunch there with some friends. Had their cottage cheese steak. Loved it. The sauce was the perfect blend of spices and the paneer was grilled to perfection. I tried the cottag cheese and mushroom bake but didnt like it as it was too cheesy for my liking and it lacked flavors. I do hear that this particular bake is their signature dish.. So i guess people must love something about it.
Simple place. Good food. Easy on the pocket. Oh and did i mention, I'm trying to make up for all the lost time by being a regular there since then.
Over the years, Eden has been very consistent with their food. For vegetarians there are few better places than this. I never like spending lots on Veggie foods, but for once I was impressed with everything that we ordered. From the Cheese Rolls to the Indian Breads to the Indian Curries everything was exquisite. Service is also extremely quick. Their pasta was delicious as well. Getting a seat is a bit of a problem on some days and parking is a bit of a hassle but still their food and service deserve repeat visits.

Consistent Quality And Service!!!
I have been to Eden a zillion times since it started and I have only one word. "Consistent".
Many restaurants are too good when they start but after 6 months their food and quality deteriorates. Eden is definitely not one among them. Their food tastes good. Their service is prompt. Their quality is good too.
Standalone factor - even when there is a long queue waiting outside, neither do they let another group share your table nor do they hurry you to leave. They let you enjoy your meal.
Yesterday we had cheese rolls, chilli garlic mint naan, paneer paratha, roti, paneer methi kofta and almonds forever.
Cheese rolls - 2 pieces and a little french fries at Rs. 150. Just 2 rolls makes it look like the quantity is less. But the quality of the cheese rolls - totally worth it. Large sized rolls filled with very tasty cheese. Good blend of flavours.
Chilli garlic mint naan - Good naan. Mint over powers. Found just one or two pieces of garlic and an occasional bite on the chillies. Good naan. However too many flavours. Was just average.
Paneer paratha - definitely not the good old punjabi parathas but definitely good enough compared to what is served in most restaurants at Chennai.
Paneer methi kofta - mildly spiced, 5 medium sized koftas - very tasty must say.
Almonds forever - I like ice creams. Can never complain. It was good but nothing that made me rave about it.
All above at Rs.685 including taxes.
Food - 3/5
Service - 3.5/5
Ambiance - 2.5/5
VFM - 3.5/5

Eden- Haven For Vegetarians
One of the first few pure veg restaurants to hit chennai, Eden instantly became a family favorite. Given an opportunity to head out, we would go straight to Eden. The first few times had us visiting the besant nagar branch and subsequently we have been frequenting the one in Hotel Harrisons.
The order is quite fixed, pumpkin soup, mushroom on toast or bharwan paneer. While the paneer melts in our mouth, we are already dreaming of the risotto and the Mushroom crepes which become our main course order. The family shares a word or two in between bites, enjoying each mouthful, the simple subtle yet visible flavours. And finally, to finish the meal, we go for the streaking kahlua or the pralines from heaven.
If you dont mind experimenting, give the Curry leaf rice with a tender coconut & cashew curry a try.
A meal that not only has us smiling, but leaves our tummies happy and content. Quite friendly on the pocket too. :-)
Overall rating= 9/10
A Good, Quiet Dinner!
The ambiance is extravagant and quiet and the service is a little slow. But an amazing place to dine in with your family. The food is really delicious but over priced.
I had a good time here. And I would visit the place often for though it is over priced, the ambiance and the food kicks in and makes you visit once again.
Buck Up, Folks@Eden
The last time I was there, the service was as bad as the food. I was so disappointed considering how I loved eating there. Better find a way to improve... you have serious competition and it would give me faith in all that is good and holy to see you folks re-establish yourselves rightfully as the institution you truly are!!!
A standard choice
Edens is always a standard choice, on the lines of Mathura or Mathsya , for quality Indian cuisine with great service and definite value for money
Located in Harrisons, it has ample space for parking and has a great ambience as well. Their speciality is the Chef's baked lasagna and a definite try for main course
As for dessert you cannot miss out on "Last time you ever saw your waist" ice cream. A definite weight gainer ,but not to be missed!!
I suggest you to open your unique veg. restaurant in Ram Nagar, Madipakkam where there is not even a single sweets& veg. restaurant of quality. Its near to MRTS/Monorail./A big bus stand on the lines of koyambedu is all coming. Hence, you can think of opening a branch hotel from areas like Ram Nagar/kaiveli/pallikaranai/Vijay nagar near MRTS/ opposite to proposed Bus stand .your uniqueness is awesome. Moreover your quality food is good for people
Good place to hang out with family and/or friends
I was on a visit to chennai and this place was recommended by a friend. Its located very strategically and loved the entry. Felt cozy until I got inside the place. I wasnt too thrilled with the ambiance. It felt like sitting inside sangeeta or saravana bhavan rather than a continental food joint. They could have planned the seating slightly better. I ordered chilli cheese toast for appetizer and that was yummy. Later I ordered pasta and my wife ordered Lasagna. Pasta was awesome. The herbs that were tossed as toppings made my day. I found the quality of cheese used to be very good. Lasagna tasted different but it was very good. Overall a big thumbs up for food. Service was good. I would definitely recommend the place if you are looking to hang out with friends and/or family. If you are going on a date , then I wouldnt recommend this place as it is quite noisy and though it is quite spacious , the seats still look too close to each other
Nice food for veggies
Very good food, especially for vegetarians.Wide options which has Indian and continental cuisine and tastes extremely good. I've been there since my school days in early 2000.They still have good standards and nice food, little costly when compared to before but not very expensive though. One pain is when u dont book the table its hard to wait for long time.
Baked Dishess !!!!
No prices to guess what one would mainly look upto at Eden..... Yessss.... baked dishes.... they are too good!!! Lasagnas or other baked dishes.... Yummm..... Moderately priced... fairly say 150- 200 per head... Service is good!! the desserts are also yumm.... I like the place.... Ambience can be improved....
Overall it was good !! worth the money !!
a very good place to dine in and is always better option than the places around the flavours are amazing the dishes are good and the options available is also good
the total price and food and taste co-relation is just on the dot and right where it should be
my recomendation is give it a try you will like it
try the Continental more than the rest
The continental dishes on their menu are just mind blowing. this is where one can savour the true flavour of greens in lasagne, that rice in risotto and the deep taste in the kebabs.Be there are bit early to get a table and the ambience might not be great like the food. All dishes here are mildly spiced and loaded with flavours
The best after home
From idlies to continental.. Eden is just amazing.. Love every dish i have had so far.. Visited more than 10 times and I love it more and more everytime..
It taste is very consistent and the only about the restaurant is its waiting time and crowded most of the time. The earlier we go, the better.
Choose your taste
When it comes to Eden, you should think about he variety..
Me and my friends enjoyed great time here as we can pick and choose the wide spread menu. Price seems to bit expensive but what i felt was, by eating the quality of the food they serve really justifies their bill.
Eden serves you all varieties and if you are a good eater then Eden is the place to chose.
The most overrated eat-out in Besant Nagar! I've been to this place a few times and I've tried out all their continental dishes. Might sound like a lot, but no. They've got very few dishes, and all of them taste just the same. They love their Bechamel sauce so much that it's the main component in all their dishes. Their starters are alright, but other than that, nothing's impressive. The dishes are priced slightly on the higher side, given the quality and taste. Prior reservation is mandatory, as it takes quite a while to get seats on weekends.
Whether continental/not is your calling, this is a must be place in Chennai. Situated in Bessy, the hangout spot for many, this place is heavily crowded. This is the only mention-able drawback of this place. Food is awesomeeee. Lasagna is worth to die for. Great food, good ambiance and good service. Been here tons of times and I cant recall if the food has ever been even close to avaerage. Must eat!
Veggie day out
Eden is a restaurant that I've been to for so many years now. The ambiance has been worked upon and is quite good now. It's the best place to go to if you are a vegetarian and if you need to take your entire family for a peaceful dinner. It has yummy continental as well as North Indian food. The best starter to order here is the Barwan Panneer. Followed by a Chef's baked bowl/Corn Florentine (if you like continental) or a Dal Makhani with Fried Rice will end your sumptuous meal here. The dessert called Last time I ever saw my waist is amazing. If its a birthday dinner, they always have a birthday cake ready which is just melts in your mouth. We ordered a kiwi cheesecake for a birthday dinner and it was finished within minutes.
P.S: Go at around 7 to get yourself a seat. Otherwise you need to wait outside for an hour!
Wonder why its so famous!
I have been here 3-4 times.. with colleagues as well wifey
Everytimes its been busy and noisy! The staff in general is fine.. the menu is regular..and the food... its below avg. barring the deserts.
But I want to second the incidence that iknowfoodbest shared here on Risotto! they server Basmati rice.. in form that is a cross between fried rice and veg pulao!!! And when asked.. about the rice... management says "we have been serving Risotto like this for so many years" .... which world have they been serving to??!
Went to this place couple of nights ago. Ordered "Risotto" and was offered basmati rice. Complained to the management who explained "this is the best they could do". Pathetic really, should not be putting food on they menu that you could not offer. Average service and woud not go there again!
Those were the days!
Eden has no doubt been the best place for Vegetarian Continental food in Chennai for as long as I can remember. But all has changed when I went there for lunch today. What has happened to them? Where is the Eden yumminess gone which I so longed for .... the food was below average. I am very upset because I don't think i will ever go there again. :(
Average not so exciting restaurant
I hate when i plan the whole course based on items in the Menu so as to complement the flavors of different courses and in the end the waiter says sorry sir we don't have it while ordering the meal. The service is below average they bring in the starter and the main course together. The waiter doesn't know what a cheese knife is, this is unbearable if they have so many Italian dishes in the menu. Without the proper cutlery its difficult to have that wholesome satisfaction.
When it comes to the taste of the food it is average. Tomato and Basil sauce does not have the flavor of basil in it. Lasagna has only one layer of Pasta in it. I don't know what to call it, " monolayer Lasagna" ? perhaps.
On a fine special evening if you are willing to have a mediocre experience with your food then yeah game for this place.
Best continental food here....
I have been going to this place since when I was 10 years and moved here to chennai....the best continental food is available only here and it is not very expensive too....i love the food in eden so much that whenever i come to chennai i make sure it is on my itinerary....
Untidy overcrowded average taste and poor service
Untidy, overcrowded, average taste, poor service and long wait time.Absolutely not good for families and North Indian food.
However prices are average, place is full of college students and junkies. Waiters takes long time to order/serve. Looks good from outside, but decor sucks from inside with school benches kind of arrangements for seating. Overall inside environment looked a bit sad and depressing.
Crowded noisy No variety
Went here with my wife and cousin on a sunday evening. I had nostalgia about this place when i was a kid this was where i had my first of my northindian dishes with my cousins. back then they used to sterilise and serve even plates hot !!.
Now....Pretty crowded and it took us 45 mins to get a table. Put off as we were terribly hungry. There is not much variety on combos. The pannerbutter masala was very bland (paneer bland masala) and uninspiring. the nan was good. the cheese pasta had no pasta and only cheese on it.We then ordered panner tikka masala as we did not like the panner butter masala and asked them to make it medium spicy and when it came back it was burning spicy (paneer burning masala). couldnt even eat a spoon of it.. This is the first time i had to comeback home and puke from a hotel. My cousin too had gastritis next day.
repeat visits: never in my life again
Me and my friends wanted to try this restaurant as it was the div of Harrisons hotels. It did not disappoint us in anyway. The ambience was really cool. The menu is really long that we can taste a lotta dishes. One should not come out of the restaurant without tasting the starters they serve, it tasted really awesome. The maincourse they serve tasted good but i felt 't was too bland. I would say this is one of the best restaurants in besant nagar and 't is a must try restaurant for the vegans out there..
best among their branches
the service is very very causual they are friendly when compared to annanagar branch even though they take their own time(&ours)food is ok.but must have ovened the chefs bowl a little more so that the white sauce cooks well comparing with annanagar this is far more better
Once bitten, twice shy
Okay, I must give it to you, this place undoubtedly was one of my favorite eateries in Bes. But that was 2 years back. I fail to understand what on earth went wrong. Did they do a cuisine makeover? Whatever that was, 'twas pretty sad. And oh yeah, the agonising wait. Pah. The chairs outside Eden for the waiting guys, are much more in number that the ones inside. Service is awfully slow. North Indian khana is very very ordinary. I would think before visiting again.
good food, very very average service.
The best part of the visit is the taste of the food. the worst part is the service (you have to remind two to three times for serving water and tissues too). I really got annoyed at such a service after waiting too long to get seated (this is the second worst part). We loved the pastas and lassagne we had (a must try) but m not sure if price is worth the wait and service though worth the taste. Any suggestions on where i could to try good continental food (just pastas and lassagnes will do for me) without long wait and poor/slow service ? let me know. till then guess dont hve a choice but to please my taste buds.
Legend in Besant Nagar
A very popular place among adyar and bezant nagar people, I love the spaghetti pasta in here. The Indian items are also very nice. The waiting time is of course very long since the place is pretty small but I think the food is worth the wait. But some people feel the place is overrated, maybe now that many other places have come up in this area. But Eden will always remain a legend in Besant Nagar among family diners.
Average Fare - Below average service
Well, this is an average fare - food and price, ambiance (this is a big downer) and service rather the attitude sucks. They can certainly improve.
The biggest irritant is that they all start looking at the watch if you land towards the end of a session. This is typical of an old restaurant where the staff is too old to be questioned.
Must improve on the attitude towards the customers who have nurtured them for such a long time.
I shall keep going back to them for average good and average service till it drops below acceptable.
I do hope that they improve as I don't like institutions like these die, which looks inevitable if this continues.
Don't go by the name
It's not even close to being as beautiful as its namesake place, its always extremely crowded, the wait is irritating, the food extremely average, there are about a 1000 other places in chennai serving the same type of food and it's not even economically priced. There is no ambience........its like an overly crowded dinign hall in a house.......Definitely can be missed.
However, dont miss the Pan/Kulfi downstairs in the small shop......much better and totally worth the price when compared to the food and ambience upstairs
P.S. I once heard from some1 that in a survey conducted among food critics and inspection authorities, it's was voted as the Dirtiest Kitchen in Chennai. Pls go ahead n check if the facts are right.......i'm not the one saying it !
Value for money
Some of u have written the quality of food is not upto the mark of hotels in mumbai or Delhi, but truly speaking when ur in a city u need to compare with the other restaurants in that city.
Talking of EDEN, they have another two located in Anna Nagar and one in Nungambakkam in Harrison Hotel.
Quality of food is maintained over the last 16years, let me ask the members of Burrp which restaurant has served the same quality of food for this long, mind u the owners have made money but the best thing is they did not expand the Besant Nagar place still serving from the same place, come on yaar, if the place is like a fish market u need to blame the guest who make such a ruckus when eating.....
today table manners or restaurant manners of chennaites is lost, this goes on in any place except the 5 star where u have the big space which suppresses the noise to certain extent .
The food variety has not changed but still u have people throng for this place.
Am sure NON vegies who want a change will not relish this place at all, but pure veggies will love this place.
The price u pay u get quality and neat tasty food.
Am sure all Burrp members would agree on this point
Good Vegetarian Continental Food
Having been to the Anna Nagar Eden for quite a few times decided it was time to make the trek across the treacherous Chennai terrain to Besant Nagar to try the original one. And with Sister and Bro in Law back from US it was time for some "Vetti Bandha" ( or wasteful boasting) of Chennai's restaurant.
Went on a tuesday evening by 830. Surprisingly packed for a week day.. But the turnaround time is quick. We placed orders for starters and soup before we got to the table and it was there by the time we reached. Eventhough the Mrs said the soup was a bit 'Knorrish'.. Big disappointment was the vol au vents found in anna nagar is not even in the menu here. Ordered couple of continental and couple of north indian dishes. Continental was rissoto and cheese steak. Rissoto was good but the steak a bit blandish and dry.
The north indian fare was good and each portion was sufficient for two of us. Had asked for extra spice but could see that a green chilli was grounded and added to get the extra spice..
Marvelous deserts, portions not too huge but enough to give you the satisfaction of having a dessert..
Beeda on the way out @ Nithyathambool needs another review all together..
To summarize a good vegetarian fare. Enuff to leave some "vetti bandha!!"
One of my favs in Chennai. Every time I came back to the US, I rushed to this place. The Shashlik rocks and the chilli corn is to die for. The pasta and canneloni are also yum. But if you are going to the restaurant for the first time try out the shashlik. If you are a veggie and you like continental food, Please Please try this place out.
Good Food - Crowded Place
Eden serves 100% vegetarian cuisine. The North Indian and Continental fare is quite good and make your mouth water.
Food Quality is great and Service is adequate. Servings are adequate and the desserts are simple yet filling. However the place is almost always packed so you might want to arrive early.
From 1993 I am a regular visitor of this great restaurant. The owners used to welcome us with a big smile. Two of the waiters are working there for more than 15 years. Their hospitality cannot be forgotten. They are very responsive and fast.
Besides hospitality, Eden is a great place for food. Both Indian and Continental varieties are tastier. They kept their standards even after a long period. That's the reason even now the people wait for a long time for space.
Excellent....Nothing less than 5 Stars!!
Manna is Eden
Is a decent place to be - like an old faithful we (me, my dear wife and somewhere down the line my daughter) have been burping there for more than a decade - and the stuff dished out has been consistently good.
Check out their Mediterranean platter - good as gold.
A tip - weekend diners try to be there by 7 sharp if you hate waiting for a table.
Decent Italian, if you like waiting!
well, the place was recommended to me as an Italian restaurant and as far as pastas go they are good enough... only down side is waiting on the tiny balcony with 20 other people minimum!( which is a bit of a major downside on hot humid, thus typical, Chennai day!)
and their desserts are as cute as they sound!
Since i read a lot about Eden , we went there, but very dissappointed. The place is cramped with no ambience . We ordered soup in as an appetiser and it was served cold. In the main food we ordered malai kofta , and mixed veg with naan. malai kofta was no good at all, even it was not like malai kofta at all. wewere thouroughly dissappointed
The food was torture!
I regret coming here a fortnight back for dinner. It sucks! Sucks to the core! We had nans, malai kofta, paneer butter masala & vegetable pulav. The malai kofta was inedible...the gravy was so sweet tht it made me feel like puking! The paneer butter masala looked like paneer pieces floating in ketchup-kinda thing..too sour & taste less & there wasnt ANY butter! Thts the irony!
This place is best suited for chennaiites who are used to eating the so-called north indian food thats served in the city joints but if u simply love the food at delhi dhabas or mumbai gallis then u'r in for a HUGE disappointment! U can threeaten to kill me..but I'm never going back to this place!
A Full five rating!
My favorite place in Chennai. Or should I be politically correct with the words- eat out! Hmmm...
Before I go all wow, let me warn you guys in advance. The place is INFESTED- with people. You never get a table right away even on weekdays. You'll find hoards of people waiting outside n they stay waiting. Which speaks volumes for the kinda food they offer.
Try their Corn Florentine. Their cottage cheese n pasta bake. Their mushroom crepes. Oh- just try anything! All very Yum!
Their fruit juices are expensive and dont come in adequate quantities and you end up ordering 2 during a meal.
But do go there, forget your diet!
The rich creamy sauces are plain sin! And the desserts are aptly named- like this one- the last time I ever saw my waist!
Enjoy Eden you people!
For a non-veggie like me, going to a pure veg restaurant always gives me a sense of not belonging. But this is one restaurant that makes me feel that veggies have got a choice - Eden!!!
At first glance you may miss this shack on the first floor building on 2nd avenue besant nagar, but you would sure get back to it once you taste the food. Its pure excellence.
The continental cuisine is just about ok. The tandoor is good.
Overall a nice place for a calm dinner on a sunday evening.
be sure to get there early or book in advance, or be ready to wait for atleast an hour on weekends.
