costlier bad experience with big disappointment

Spicy Tortilla Triangles - I wonder to which Cuisine this food belongs to.

It smells more like a Chettinad and tastes more like a Chinese. Ridiculous.

Portuguese Sizzler - tastes like a normal South Indian flavor.

Atlast their Apple Pie was quite okay.

HOLY COW..... Why the hell did I visit this place

Nungambakkam High road---- The hub to the best restaurants in the city. But why the hell did i visit this place. Authentic food........ Oh really. When 3 of us vistied this place we ordered a Fondue, a sizzler and a lasagna non of which were authentic. They should seriously re-consider calling them "International Cuisine". To the food they serve, the restaurant is highy over-priced. Even though the ambiance is good, who on earth pays for good looks rather than good food.

Worth it.

At the risk of sounding like a spoiled brat, i dont think their food is over-priced. yes, it is a bit expensive, but not over-priced. Their variety is good, the food is better and the desserts are amazing. I absolutely Love their Chocolate Lava Cake. Everybody in Chennai MUST give Holy Smoke a try, its totally worth it. :)

Disappointing

Holy Smoke! This place is a major disappointment to say the least.
I went to the place for dinner and this place is terribly over-priced for the kind of food they serve. And to sell this place as a sizzler joint is a sheer disgrace - my sizzler hardly hissed when it came to the table. I ordered the French sizzler - and the rice was actually placed as a mound untouched by the non-sizzling hardly there sauces - the patties on the side, however, tasted fine (nothing to shout about though). The Arabiatta pasta which we had ordered was good. But all the main courses seriously lack in quantity especially for the heavy charge and the most disappointing thing was that all the food was lukewarm. Their starters, however, were decent and were hot.
A friend of mine did, although, say that this place would seem a little reasonable if you went for the corporate lunch.
So if you want to give this place a visit, go during the day and go with very low expectations.

Holy Smoke a.k.a Holy CRAP!

It was a nice Saturday afternoon, me and my wife along with our 3 months old went to Holy Smoke expecting to taste some delicious grills. The first impression was good, the decor was neat and people dressed well.

We were given the corner sofa in ground floor as it was convenient with our kid. The first thing I can see is the mesyyyyyy assortment of things under the staircase from broom to what not!!!!! YUCK...So I moved away in such a way that i wont see that when eating. We were happy to see hardly 2 guests thinking we are going to get excellent service. Boy-o-boy we were not only in for a nasty surprise but a RUDEEEE shock.

We ordered the starters and two veg grills. After waiting for 10 mins and asking for water for 3-4 times, I got fed up and walked to the waiters station picked the water mug and poured water for us. in fact the waiter saw this and didnt even offer to pour. From then it was all down the hill. Every time I need water, I walk up get the jug pour....and this with a 3 months old baby...u can understand my state.

Then came the horror!!! The grill, as they call, was not cookedddddd...it was raw, greasy and looked like someone experimented on it. Both of us in spite of being extremely hungry couldnt even finish 30% so we decided not to spoil our appetite. We asked for the bill and again 10 mins wait none seems to be interested. Then I walked to the cashier showed my table, got the bill, paid and LITERALLY RAN OUT and went to Canton and enjoyed our simple Chinese meal.

Add to this, in spite of calling and reserving they did not honor our snapdeal coupon!!!

I dont know if I have the courage to try them once again....stay away plssss

Holy Crap !!

We went to Holy Smoke after hearing a lot about this place. It was a saturday afternoon, while they did have a reasonable number of guests, they were not swamped with people. We ordered our food and waited for well over fourty minutes. Many guests who came after us were served before us and one couple was paying the bill while we were waiting.
The worst part is everytime we asked if our food was ready they said"5 minutes Ma'm"

Finally after 45 minutes, we decided to leave and go some place else. ANd here comes the best /worst part. Neither the waiter nor the manager or any other staff ( who were right in front of us) even bothered to say " Please hold on" , " We are sorry" or any thing.

The truth is ( and the honest to God truth), we dint complain, raise our voice , or even ask them any questions. We just got up and said ,we were leaving.
And not a blip from these guys!!

In todays world, this kind of pathetic service from an upscale establishment is not acceptable. So maybe the food there is awesome , but you may never find out coz they will drive you out of the place with their service levels !!

Must try the Chocolate Confusion...!!!

Went with my friends a few weeks back and i must say i was pleasantly surprised by the friendly waiters. the food was ok (not great) but the dessert was the highlight. we had ordered a chocolate confusion, as suggested by our waiter and oh ho ho...i can still taste the warm dark and white chocolate sauce....!!!

Share:

Beautiful ambience the food?? Read on!

After hearing a lot about this place decided to visit for dinner. We ordered a chicken satay for a starter and beef and chicken sizzlers for the main course. I must say that the steak was well made and tasty. The only crib i had was that they did not serve mashed potatoes nor provide any rolls. I just hope somebody looks into this and rectifies the palate so that people can relish the sizzler.

The service was efficient and the ambience was amzing, I
did not expect such a lovely lighting and beautiful furniture!

Now all they need to do is remain consistent with their quality and improve upon that menu!

Must try for sure!

Most Memorable Diwali Lunch

A brilliant lunch on Diwali thanks to the chef at Holy Smoke who had speacially customised for us a north indian thali ...
First we were served with the chef's special drum stick soup followed by the thali which consisted of malabar parotha, paneer butter masala, mushroom curry, bean poriyal, biseballa rice, biryani with brinjal ka salan and curd rice...
Not to forget the grand finnale - the sitafal payasam and chocolate souffle for dessert which just melted in the mouth ... On the whole it was lovely meal and totally enjoyable second experience at Holy Smoke ...
Looking forward to see the mouth watering north Indian thali which is now available only on special request for Kitty parties and get togethers on the everyday menu soon ...

Cheers to the chef and mangt at Holy Smoke for making the lunch on diwali memorable ... hope to have many more memorable dinning experiences with you soon ... thanks guyzz ....

Nice place and great food

I decided togo to Holy Smoke for a snack.

We went in for the Mexican Chilli Burger which was really tasty to have and the Hamburger also was good.

Then we had the choclate lava pudding, fruit caramel custard, apple pie and finally winded up the treat with cold beverages like coke and mirianda.

There is also something to say about the boys overthere, during my last visit the service of the boys were ok but this time they were really good and kept up to their timing in serving well and they were kind in attending to the customer's.

Regarding the prices, although the dishes are very expensive the quality of the food is equal to the price of it.

A wonderful experience!

Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. It was wonderful. The stake was just right, the chicken wasn't too hard and the sauces were not harsh at all. The meal and all its components were a perfect blend. Even the starters were wonderful. And normally after a good 2 courses one expects the deserts to let you down, but not here. The chocolate fondue was nice. Unlike many a restaurants the chocolate actually tasted good and was warm. It didn't stick to the back of your throat the and even the marshmallows stood the test of quality. It was a wonderful meal and the service was delightful.

Holy Smoke-A Devil in Disguise

Now let me take you all for a trip to hell. If you have never had a sickest experience or ill-treated by someone then better go to Holy Smoke. If you want to spoil the start of your weekend then why not Holy Smoke. I was gonna suggest you all a week before but I was in a trauma after being so well ‘Ill-treated’ that I couldn’t come up with words. People try to change from better to best but this place has become from worse to worst. And now coming to the main part of the best wild experience, the captain and its crew. It’s the best experience to have a chat with the captain, he won’t event make a dumb man speak but also make a spineless man bring the roof down. If you are a calm man then I bet that all your patience will vanish in a fraction of second and will make you furious. This is a place wherein you step and instead of blood fury will rush in form of liquid. I'm sure after reading this the captain will collapse along with its crew. And ya forget about the food which is never gonna be served.

Gud Food HORRIBLE & let me repeat HORRIBLE SERVICE

So I walk in about 2 : 35 pm, with lunch time duh almost close to end. Place is empty with just one table with 2 taken. 2 of my friends and me, decide to take the couch which seats 6 since it has the couch to it, and there comes Mr.Waiter who tells us we cant take that and only can take a table for 4. He was just way too rude to even bother to explain or even be polite about it, was more like an order. So we walked out end of story xD

P.s : I know the food was good cause I had been there a few months back and it was quite a decent meal.

Share:

Absolutely Nothing Holy about it....

To start with...Guess I know at the first place why it is called the 'Holy Smoke'. The place is so badly designed that if someone orders a sizzler and if in the remotest possibility it turns out being brought hot to the table (elaboration to follow), then we can all be rest assured that we can sit engulfed in thick layers of smoke at least for the next 15 minutes ...no wonder this is called Holy smoke...

I understand crisp short reviews are always a treat, but then I do not want to lose any details and hence have decided to go the long descriptive way….

We reached the place at 8.30 PM … when we got seated and started placing the order , realized that all the many signs outside showcasing their 'Fondue Festival' made no sense because they only had two choices for the Fondue...no prizes for guessing...one Veg and the other Non-veg... Probably the only thing they got it right in this menu item was the fancy fondue stand because when we actually ate it; it was nothing but a coloured and a thicker pasta cheese sauce...

Not wanting to spoil the spirit of the hour....My friends and I decided to order some mock tails not actually realizing the Horrendous long list of events was to follow... after about 20 minutes, just when we were filling our stomach with water...the waiter came back and told us that due to non-availability of ice, they were not in a position to give us anything to drink!!!!!!!!!!

It was just about 9.40 PM and wish we had decided to follow the signs and close the bill the walk off, unfortunately we chose to get MORE adventurous to order for our main course which of course were the ‘sizzlers’….after typical group deliberations, the six of us decided to order 4 sizzlers…and now for the elaboration part… the looooooong wait….after multiple reminders and requests…. 50 long minutes had passed by the time we saw a glimpse of the waiter getting the first sizzler up the stairs… I have had sizzlers in so many many places and irrespective of the taste I guess universally the one common thing is the sizzling noise and appearance of the hot sizzler coming to the table…but truly this was one hell of a unique sizzler….there was not a bit of smoke visible… the waiter laid it on the table, I really even then did not want to get annoyed because of the way it has been brought, I thought maybe it just doesn’t sizzle or look hot but might be worth the patience… I decided to non- prejudicially take the fork to start eating ….I realized that the sizzler…forget being not hot…It was absoluuuuuuutely COLD … I right away asked the waiter to check it and he perhaps knew it…silently acknowledged and took it back…
Though we all we really had to keep ourselves back from screaming; waited with nobody coming back for another 10 minutes…this was it…I don’t remember a time when I lost my cool so much and so did all my friends…Truly this was the moment …We all rushed down to the manager and just as we were reaching down realized the other three sizzlers and the one which went back from our table were all coming back and in the same ‘Non Sizzling’ way Cold manner… and what really ultimately did the trick and made us burst out was when the chief waiter there had the courage to come to us and argue that those were how sizzlers actually are and that this is how people eat it and we should too!!!

Thank god we did not land up having a scuffle there because trust me that’s how annoyed we were… Tried talking to the manager but then looking at the indifferent reactions he was rendering realized it’s not worth spending even 2 more minutes in that place…just paid the bill for whatever we ate and left swearing we would never go back there…

If there was a way to give negative ratings, I would have gone by that...but since the minimum here seems to be one star here I have gone for that... and of course the one star is not for the food or anything there….it is a token for being a motivation for me to put up a review. My husband and I have loved exploring so many eateries around….but have never really felt the need to invest the time in writing about it…but this truly has been one hell more than a holy experience that made me come out and write about it… I know for a fact that it will never be about Holy Smoke because I am never going back there…

Guess I will keep the writing going but I hope next time around I have better things to write about…

Yummy sizzlers and desserts!

I went here yesterday evening at 4 with my family fearing it would be very crowded being a sunday but we were pleasantly surprised to find it otherwise. We had a mushroom and broccoli fondue and though it was the 1st time I'm having a fondue it was really good. We also had potato and cheese nuggets. I found it quite crunchy and tasty. And finally we had a brownie with ice cream. I've had it in a few restaurants in chennai but it was the best here. Next time, I'm gonna pop in here just to have 1 of its extensive desserts or milkshakes! I should also mention the waiters were very friendly and helpful. The ambiance was good with good fast music playing on the speakers.

holy smoke?? more like holy crap!!!!

even if sumone offers free food here i wont go.Me and my family have dined at a variety of places be it 5star rated or just a take away joint. and i can safely say holy smoke is the worst experience we have ever had. we entered at 11.50 am.. we ordered two portions of starters the first one being the spic y tortillas... the tortillas were very oily and the beans topping was mediocre... the second starter we ordered was a vegetable nugget the menu claime it to be a potato stuffed with cheese filling... we got a plain potato nugget............. and this is the best part...
for the main course we ordered two HOLYSMOKE SIZZLERS
this claimed to have yogurt patties.... what we got was a soggy uncooked patties with the batter still in liquid in the center....
we left from the place immediately...
nothing about the joint was good in anyway... the waiters dont know how to fill a glass of water properly...
if u want to eat here take my advice dont go

Refreshing

How nice it was to be again and again to Holy Smoke. This trip we had the lemon grass and ginger clear soup which was not up-to the mark but a little bit tasty, then we went in for a desert "Fruit Caramel Custard" this was very tasty and the price was reasonable.

The interior design is simply super-ub in this restaurant and the seating is arranged very nicely and neatly.

This time the service of the boys was ok and not that slow, they were able to keep up to the timing of the order's given to them.

On the whole I would keep going back again and again to this restaurant which has become one of my favourite restaurant in Chennai city.

A good place for a family meal

We went to Holy Smoke last sunday on Mother's Day.Being a weekend, the place for crowded for lunch. But we were lucky,we had to wait only for 5 mins till we got a table. The place is done with very good interiors which caught my attention first. We had their chilli fondue..which was different and unique as i've never tasted a fondue. My mom liked it. While my mom ordered a nasi goreng sizzler which was recomended by the staff i chose to their signature dish holy smoke sizzler which contains a spicy fish piece with tangy mango dip and fried chicken.Though the portions are not too big,it was fine for two people to share. The Nasi Goreng seemed to be a hot favorite as it was tangy n rightly spiced with a lovely tofu dip.Though we didnt opt for any deserts,i went for a roccher shake..which was so rich and sinful made of ferarro rocher chocolate. We were taken for a lil surprise when we were given 250 rs off discount coz of mother's day..so tat was even more special..On the whole our experience was decent,
Food- 7/10
Ambience-9/10
Service-7/10.
Jus' make sure you reserve a table if your checking out Holy Smoke on a sunday.

Holy NO

I was in Chennai last month and was out shopping the whole day, so I thought I'd stop in for a bite. It was around 7pm in the evening, I had gone with a friend who is also visiting this place for the 1st time. We ordered a chicken sandwich and I had ordered some Mexican fried meal or something... We waited for almost 40 minutes, the wait only added my expectations about the food. But when it finally came, everything was cold!! Damn, you'd expect a place called "Holy Smoke" to serve you something hot because coffee shop's only serve cold food. I was very disappointed and even the staff was sad, they were very busy in their own conversations. The only decent thing was the ferrero-rocher shake.
Food - 4/10.
Service - 3/10.
Ambiance - 7/10.

A good meal on a high range

The concepts of Sizzlers n Fondues is pretty new in Chennai, atleast to me. It's at Holy Smoke i had my fist fondue-chilli fondue, with ooozles of cheese n herbs with veggies n chicken. It was yummy and filling. They have a good range fo sizzlers for Non-veggies. We had the madras curry sizzler,it was spicy but the quantity was jus' right not too more. Was too full to opt for a dessert. The prices were a bit higher. The service was good as they served on time n were kind. It's a place to visit once in a while for trying out new exotic dishes.

Bad Bad Bad

I went to this place with much expectation as it is one of the places which serves sizzlers. The place was good.
However, the food not up to the mark.

We were led upstairs and seated in the center table... It was an earthquake effect since the wodden floor was not well done, everbody had to cross my place while wandering.. so the effect was really bad...

We had ordered for the something called Chef's Mezze Platter (which was supposed to be best coz it was the chef's spl... trust me it sucked!) shreaded chicken with no taste, jus cooked or baked or watever served with sad pita breads on one plate...on the other plate it was 2 rolls of rice wrapped in cabbage with the typical kara chutney, kootu and something to do with brocolli and cocunut was horrible to taste!!!! and to my surprise, that was supposed to be a non veg dish (wtf)!

Then came my platter (the much awaited).. It was good.. but the quantity was soooo less, I was dying of hunger after that.

My BF had the pasta with mushroom sauce and that was good too in terms of taste and quantity..

I'm never goin back to Holy Smoke again in my life!

Share:

Very Expensive..but food very average

I went there yesterday with my friends. We pratically tried everything in the menu. The sizzlers were sad, cheese fondue terrible. They have taken the names of different global cuisines and then made something else. (nasigoreng/stroganoff etc). The owner of the place was walking around talking to customers. I am sure with this kind of attitude, this place will improve.

I had a Portugese Sizzler. The fish wasnt well done and was not evenly cooked. The plate was too heavy and I had to adjust my posture so as to eat comfortably. I couldnt adjust the plate :)

Food - very average
Damage on your wallet - heavy
Decor - decent

I have an easy test to check how good a place is.Just order the simplest thing - Lemon Soda.

The lemon juice was very bad!! maybe owner needs to look into it before shaking more hands!

FANTASTIC RESTAURANT FOR A GOOD MEAL

I had a visit to the newly opened HOLY SMOKE RESTAURANT at the Isphani Centre in Nungambakkam with my friends. Believe it or not although it is a new restaurant which has just come out in the market, the food is extremely good, especially we enjoyed the sandwich decks & burgers (cottage cheese / vegetable burger) which was simply tasty as anything. Although the service of the boys was quite-a-bit slow the rest of the things seems to be fine. On the whole HOLY SMOKE is really a good place to have a good time and a delicious meal.

Service needs to be up'd!

We went there in the evening to grab a quick bite, and since this place was new and we happened to be at Ispahani center, we decided to give this place a shot.
They have an impressive lineup of menu and the place is clean, I will give it that much to the place.
The taste was also refreshingly different, in a good way. The quantity for the prize is very decent as well.
We ordered the mexican burger and you get 2 of those decent szied, as opposed to one big burger, we also had the arabiatta pasta, both were done to perfection and we simply loved it.

The service really needs to be revamped, the boys needs to be taught a lesson on how to be attentive to your customer. we had to ask 3 times for silverware, after our food was served, and they would bring only the fork, and then we had to request for the knife etc..!
We also had to ask twice for the waters to be filled in our glasses.
You can say a lot about a place, just by these two basic criteria met to perfection.
So yeah, i will be back because there is so much I want t try and the dessert counter was irresistible, but since we wanted a quick bite, we had to reserve that for another time!

Holy No! Sizzlers... only heavy hot stones...

Walk into a new place, you expect a nice menu card with reasonable pricing... Holy Smoke's still doesn't have a proper menu card, for all that they have spent on the interiors. Fine, you see the pricing of a fine dining restaurant on such a menu card, you definitely expect to have a good meal.

Writing a review for this place is I think really easy, nothing that could be appreciated.

Service - Ok ,
Food : Taste - Sad, Quantity - Very Bad, Presentation - Ok.
Satisfaction - Absolutely No.

If you like sizzlers, this is a place to avoid. I just cant understand why they want to fool people saying they make sizzlers.

No point elaborating on what is good or what isn't, dont waste your money and fool your taste buds.. Holy Smoke Stay away..

The only thing good about the place is you get parking whenever you drive in and I am sure you can always find empty tables.

Filled their feedback form and stood there for a good 2 mins, no one is bothered. Guess they are pretty content with what they are serving.

Highly Unholy!

With the prices on the menu printout being that of a fine dining, I was hoping for such an experience. However, everything fell so short, It looked like a miserable attempt to start a restaurant. It looked like there was no softlaunch because the waiters were running around trying to get things, but nothing was in place. You can dismiss this kind of chaos during the first few days of opening, but its been more than a month, and this kind of headless chicken running around it rather inexcusable.
The food - the less said the better. The starters appear to be nice, but the main course was grossly inadequate and quantities were small. There was more rice than even vegetables or even meat on the plate and that's it. The hot chocolate was the worst i have had my whole life, and trust me, i have had my fair share of hot chocolates.

Would i go back there again - not for while. Hopefully, by then they might have improved.
would i recommend it to anyone - not till i am convinced.

Platter of delicasies

Holy Smoke has a perfect ambience to spend a fun filled dinner with friends. I absolutely loved this place. We went at 7 in the evening and we were suprised to have DJ Gavin grooving into some jiving music. This place being famous for fondues and sizzlers,we wanted to indulge and binge on to them.We started off with a Chilli fondue, which was exotic with cheese and the right herbs served with chicken, carrots and croutons. The fondues are a must have here.I had the Madras Curry Sizzler, with true to its name..was spicy with a masala twist. My friend had a Nasi-Goreng sizzler..which i think was best of the lot. It's their signature dish apperantly. We rounded our meals by having strawberry caramel custard and chocolate lava pudding and both were heavenly. Over all it was an amazing experience, We left with a filling tummy and a wide grin.Thumbs up to HOLY SMOKE

Minus 1

You don’t really expect to find a proper restaurant in a place like ispahani centre. Located in the centre of the city, holy smoke is a double deck restaurant with the worst staircase and a funny smell. Décor is well done with comfy couches and pretty cushions. The place setting is sad and depressing. A sheet of paper underneath the plate so does not compliment the décor. They are out of cutlery all the time and never have the decency to ask for water.

Coming to the food. The sizzlers are very very small. The idea of the hot-stone sizzler is interesting but the portions and the food that comes on it are not so. We had ordered for the grilled fish sizzler and a Chicken satay sizzler. There were only 2 (very small) pieces of fish covered with a not so interesting tomato based sauce with about 10 potato wedges. I had a feeling that I had ordered for potato wedges and the pieces of fish was served along with it. It included a salad and a small portion of buttered rice which was extremely cold. The chicken satay sizzler had the heap of potato wedges too with 3 (correctly 3) pieces of chicken satay on a wooden skewer. They chicken satay was badly flavoured and it looked black in colour. Thanks to the over dose of dark soya sauce. And ya it didn’t end there. The peanut sauce was over-flowing on top. It was served with seafood schzuan rice. I don’t really know how Chinese food got into a thai meal.

For dessert, we tried the chocolate waffles which was specially made for 30 minutes. I obviously waited for so long and I was expecting way too much too. When the waiter placed it in front of me, it looked great. It was hot. The smell was heavenly and tantalizing. It had a tiny scoop of ice cream on it. And as I smeared the ice cream on top of it and tried cutting it, I realized that I made the mistake of my life ordering it.

Even after soaking the waffle with the extra scoops of ice cream (it looked pretty disgusting) for a long time it didn’t help much. It was hard and horrible in the inside.

The place is over hyped and does not deserve all the attention it is taking. It is way too expensive for a place in a mall kinda centre.

ok food, decent service

Food:
Average food overall. The fondue (swiss cheese) was quite good and large enough for two hearty eaters or more (as a starter),

The sizzlers were quite good... except for the limited choice of non-veg steaks and the size of the main portion (a single small piece of chicken in the Grilled steak sizzler). Furthermore, there was a lack of mushrooms in the mushroom sauce. :)

The Pastas...large portions...but, very masala-ish taste...arabiatta sauce. To be succinct, it was Indian pasta, through and through. the masala, red chilli, etc. I really think they should look at whether they actually mean it to be so Indian. If so, they should mention it in the menu.

The desert, Lava Pudding, was quite nice, but also quite small.

The Service, Ambience & pricing: Decent over-all.

Has potential, but needs a lot of work.

good food, not so good service...

this newly opened place has a pleasant, elegant ambience and good food.. the beef steak and potato wedges are worth mentioning.. the people who run the place were doing their best to be nice to the customers and were helping us decide on the menu.. but when the food was served there parts of it missing (that were mentioned in the menu card) and we had to specifically ask for them...quite ambarrassing...
