Aesthetic and Friendly Ambience + Awesome Food + All Vegetarian

Aesthetic and friendly ambience + awesome food + all vegetarian: What more do vegetarian food lovers want?
So we three siblings sat down at one of the beautiful tables at Kryptos to enjoy dinner. Everything looked promising. We ordered the mixed snack platter and enjoyed the hummus and pita bread, the spinach parcels with pinenuts was the winner in this round. For snacks, we dug into the baked wantons – perfect! Both the soups we ordered were delicious. In the Mian grills, the baked rice peppers were mildly flavoured and cooked perfectly. And to end, even though I am not a great dessert fan, the baklava was mind-blowing.
What is needed on the menu is some more interesting mocktails.
I had enjoyed the salad buffet the last time I had been there – that counter is irresistible! But I let go of it since I wanted to taste other dishes .
The stone table in the centre where you can hang out with your gang of family / friends, with that 10% discount offer, is what beckons next!

The staff was super friendly. Our celebration couldn't have been better, our experience at Kryptos was wonderful in every way.

Wonderful Veg Food!

I had read good reviews about these chain of restaurants fostered by Chef Willi and Vipin and wanted to check them out for a long time! It was my mom's b'day treat and we selected this veg restaurant as it's Lent season. We ordered the Aubergine Moussaka, Paneer Tikka with Fried rice and Salad buffet and we were not disappointed. The taste and flavour was very good. The seating and ambience was very good with soft Greek music (though it got a bit dull after some time!) playing in the background. I had the Baklava for dessert which was just plain yummy though the portion was less. The waiters were very friendly and helpful in explaining some of the ingredients in the menu items. The price is a little on the higher side but for quality food it's worth it. We spent 1700 bucks for 3 people. Overall a very good experience. My only grouse is that I wish they would install a ramp at the entrance for wheelchairs to come in easily.

Thank you for your kind words about our salad bar. We are the only restaurant in Chennai with a iced salad counter. A MUST VISIT :)

Kryptos has always been one of my favorite places to eat at. The rich and wholesome flavors shine through and the Greek cuisine is very interesting. This is the only good restaurant in Chennai for Greek and Mediterranean cuisine and I strongly recommend it to all !!

Do not miss the mind blowing Baklava and the eggplant dish :)

The service is first class and the ambiance is a pleasant and homely one.

Food Fit For The Greek Gods!!

When Kryptos opened in Chennai, I was overjoyed to know that I would be able to have Greek food. I wasn't expecting too much as I know how often I have been let down with my high expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised to visit the outlet on KNK road and view their menu which had delights ranging from Mezze, Falafel and Haloumi to rare delicacies such as Emu! All topped off with a fabulous range of desserts including my favourite item Baklava!
The ambience of the restaurant was just right, luckily I had picked a not too busy time of the day to drop in and we were welcomed by the light strains of some Greek music. We were welcomed in with a smile and promptly offered a table. The waiter gave us the menus and asked us if wanted something to drink. We ordered the Greek Lantern which was indeed refreshing for the palate before we got started on the main task of the day!
We ordered the Koupes Me Emu and of course the Falafel for starters. The food was served hot and fresh to our table and tasted like little bites of Greek heaven. You can never really go wrong with Falafel, but this was perfect. Not very oily, golden coloured and served with the best Hummus I’d tasted in a long time! The Emu was an interesting choice, I was a little apprehensive at the new meat I’d be adding to my list of eatables, but surprisingly it wasn't very different from Chicken. The fact that they were coated in Bulgar wheat made me feel like I was eating a healthy meal as well!
The portions were quite big so we decided to share a main and went for the Mousakka. We couldn't finish the dish fast enough. It was melt- in-your mouth food that you didn't want to let cool even a little. It was truly the highlight of the meal and left us feeling full.
However full you are, there is always a little portion of your stomach reserved for dessert and I was all set to have my Baklava! The little parcels of Phyllo pastry filled with nuts and honey! Absolutely delectable! I loved them so much that I ordered a portion to take away as well.
I would have to say that Kryptos provided me with one of the best dining experience I had I Chennai. The meal was top class, the prices were definitely acceptable for the quality and quantity provided and the icing on the cake was that we were able to meet Willi himself and pass on our appreciation.
Not to be missed!

Reading this review is perfect end to a long day for me. Greek food has grown on me too, the amazing and unique flavours. It is great to know we have delighted you with our humble food and warm service.
The portions served are generally quite generous keeping the authenticity in mind.
Chef Willi has designed the menu after great thought and research after from his travels to Greece. The Baklava is my personal favourite too.
Thank you very much for writing such an amazing and elaborate review.

Lost Its Charm

This place used to be great. I was a regular. But now the place has lost its charm.
The service is really poor. 5 of us went on a Sunday afternoon, it was not crowded at all.
Salad bar had very few things, earlier it used to be amazing.

We had ordered four main course dishes as one of us was not eating. The waiter was really rude and gave a look when seeing we were 5 (very weird)
We asked if we can pay for an extra salad bar for one person, waiter refused and said its only complimentary with the main course. When we told that the two of us are not having salads at all so can you let this person have it, as we do have 4 complimentary salad bar entries. He still refused. Manager refused as well.
Food arrived after an hour and two dishes out of four were good.

This place used to have wonderful and quick service. Never went there after this experience.

GREEK GALA | GIRLY GIGGLES

A week without seeing my girlfriends makes me feel a little incomplete. The fun part of getting together is always picking the right spot, where our conversation can go on uninterrupted. I hate getting thrown out of places just because the last order has been taken!

Un-breakfasted chicks with tons of scandalous stories make for a Super Sunday. Three of us meant three separate starters. We went with the Minced Shrimp Patties, the Lamb and Feta Rolls and Calamari Rings. We were at it in minutes. I dare say, “inhaling food with our eyeballs”! Often mentioned quote back in college days. I guess Old habits die hard.

One can never go wrong with Shrimp. The patties were moist and delicately spiced with patties and suited all of our palates without being overpowering. The lamb and feta cheese rolls added a new twist as I’m not used to feta, besides in salad. The lamb and feta complemented each other in adding textured lamb and rustic cheese into one delicious bite. Okay, so we ordered calamari. A favorite at many restaurants, there are only a few that get it right. The Kryptos strategy worked well in lightly frying the rings to a golden brown – and the kicker is that they brought it out at the right time. Not the rip your gums out piping or wilting cold. The rings were crisp and not chewy. Greek or not, I highly recommend it.

Many of my other reviews reflect a soft spot for dessert and this experience was no different (eve though I was stuffed to the gills). The Baklava was a no-brainer and lived up to its promise. The big surprise was the Thickened Yoghurt and Honey. Having had a variety of dessert dishes resembling ‘payasam’ across the globe will find this dish delightful. I certainly did. Your next spot should definitely be Kryptos. Not just because I say so, but because the food does.

We are delighted that you enjoyed our meal at Kryptos by Willi with your girlfriends and you were able to have your girly Sunday catch-up without being interrupted. I know how much my wife enjoys her girly time, and loves catching up with her friends without having to worry about the quality of the meal or the service staff. I am glad you picked Kryptos to celebrate your Sunday and enjoyed your meal with us. I loved your analogy about ‘inhaling food your eyeballs’ and it’s an honor that we were able to bring back memories

It Tasted Like Authentic Greek Food!!

Being from Greece, my sister and I were happily surprised when we heard during our meal at Tuscana Pizzeria that they have a sister brand Greek restaurant in Chennai. My sister and I insisted that we go there for a meal to hopefully enjoy the food but more importantly we gave priority to taking pictures at a Greek restaurant in Chennai. We were definitely in for a surprise. The food tasted original and like home, while the helpful staff laughingly pronounced the dish names knowing we were Greek. We had Greek salad which is usually how we start our meal, some Tiropitakia which is basically pastries filled with warm cheese, Gyros which mentally took me back home, and Karidopita which is Greek traditional walnut cake. The entire Kryptos experience was truly unforgettable, especially for us, since we initially thought it strange that one of the few places outside of Greece where we have had Greek food, would be Chennai. I definitely recommend this place to any adventurous food lover or for anyone who wants to enjoy quality food in an authentic setting.

Worst Dining Experience!!

Me and my group of friends after(group of 9) hearing all the buzz about Kryptos, went to have a good evening !!! The disaster befalled on us can be complemented with the food , service, and its extra expensive price!! Sadly burrp doesn't have negative markings to express my regret!!
Contrary to the ambiance, which was romantic and mood lifting , it was ruined by a group of people who were really loud and annoying. While the waiters din't do anything about it. And as a matter of fact, responded to us by saying that they are their regular customers and gave a rude reply to us!!
On asking chilled water, they responded by providing us regular water after half an hour, and told us they have gone to buy chilled water!!(which doesn't make sense at all).
Food was pathetic, the illustrative overview of the dishes in the menu, make you feel disgusted too.
Will never try this place nor recommend it!! The whole group was disappointed!!

Really Good Greek Food!

Quite frankly, I had no idea about Greek cuisine when I entered Kryptos with my parents who are really not into tasting anything new. On a positive note, the manager explained their menu promptly and I could get a vague idea. I was really glad. They have both buffet and À la carte services. But I decided to not test my parent's tolerance and went with ordering what the Manager suggested, Garides me Feta and Kotopoulopitakia. I have no complains about either of them and quite satisfied too. But the really notable ones are Souvlaki and Baklava. The Baklava is really awesome and a must eat in this restaurant. I was very skeptical about my parents but surprisingly it turns out that they enjoyed the food as well.

Delicious Birthday

I really feel like sharing this experience with everyone. It was a very important day to me and my husband really made it special. Apart from gifts we had dinner at Kryptos by Willi. An excellent choice as it made me go back to my traditional food but this time delicately infused with an Indian touch. Hmm, Read buffet of salads, good portions of main course. We had Moussaka as well, which was just delicious and I think no one should miss that authentic taste. We topped our dinner with Baklava surrounded by staff singing Happy Birthday and really enjoyed it. Cheers everyone and If your really want to taste Cypriot and Greek food, Kryptos is the sole address! ;-)

Good hospitality!!!!!

First I need to appreciate the team for the nice effort of bringing a different concept in hot chennai for People like me fond of trying different cusienes. I just browsed and came to know about this restaurant, so visited once with my brother. While entering itself it was pleasing and they welcomed me with a good smile. Though I couldn't quite feel the A/C.

Waiter explained me about the greek food and food was awesome and quite a good quantity too. I have never tried greek food before but liked the blend. I really loved the dessert " svingi"(i believe- i am not sure) which was wonderful in taste. Even now i can feel it in my mouth.

Service is really good and got good hospitality too.

Surely i will recommend this place to my friends.
Hope to meet u guys again soon....

Disappointment !

After hearing great reviews from many of my friends about Kryptos, I had visited this restaurant some weeks ago. The starters were just okay - we had the classic greek dish, Falafel. And for the main course, I had "kotopoulo me pilafi" and my wife had ordered "kritiko boureki". While my wife was quite happy with her main course dish - I tasted it and found it to be good as well.My main course was such a disaster, the chicken was not properly cooked and the garlic had been put in excess. After struggling to eat it for about 10 mins, I had called up the waiter and told him that my main course was not good. He started explaining how greek food is so much different from Indian food and it does not have any spices or masala included and that could be the reason I did not like the dish!! I explained what I felt was wrong in my dish, and he started off his Indo-Greek explaination again. I told him that I love greek food and I have had the same dish twice or thrice before in the US. He had no answer after that. We left the restaurant after footing the bill and cancelling our desert.

Wonderful

Located on the ever posh Khader Nawaz Khan Road
Below Sports Locker Showroom, this resto is an amazing initiative to bring in Greek cuisine into India.
It certainly is not the biggest place, but it has a nice enough ambience.
We were seated in a corner where the AC's effect wasn't palpable enough.

The food was absolutely nice. We ordered two main courses and got two portions of salad. Which we felt was a Really good deal.

They have a Good service and serve wondefully Nice desserts too.

And it was pretty reasonable considering the salad offer. Not pricey.
And they're doing a good job dishing out a niche cuisine like Greek. I can safely say they're on the path to replicating authenticity, to as high an extent as possible.

Btw, you know what's amazing? The fact that th menu card is in english and tmail. Greek food explained in tamil is quite fascinating :D

Greek And Latin Fare

Tuscana Kryptos, located in Khadar Nawaz Khan ,an upscale designer and restaurant locality , serves a fantastic and close to authentic Greek meal. The whole setup including the ambience and menu has been designed very carefully , to suit the taste of the Indian audience and their palate.
You need not be a greek lover to enjoy this meal as it gives a flavor of different kinds of ingredients, right from their soup, starters to their dessert .
Managed by the Chef Willi himself, the buffet is a fantastic option and definite value for money at just 550 . It consists of a huge salad bar ,with a couple of starters and main course that includes pasta, rice and a few Greek items. The dessert literally stands out from the entire spread , that includes a mouth watering mango souffle to choco-honey dipped balls and a huge variety of cakes, and lastly a Greek Coffee. Their menu is equally matched with a very personal service as well. If you opt for the A la carte, don't forget to order for their in-house speciality dessert, the Baklava

Hat's off to these guys for bringing Greek food to the City! They have done an amazing job! Splendid Food, Splendid Service

The lunch buffet at Kryptos has become a delicious and healthy habit for me. Ravioli filled with minced mushrooms, or artichoke hearts, are often there. As is vegetable lasagna. And roasted chicken with lemon sauce.

There are fresh, chewy bread-rolls, and mozzarella and other cheeses. There is also a classic hummus (made made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini -- that is, ground sesame seeds -- olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic).

Although cream sauces are used in some dishes, in general the food preparation is on the low-calorie side. A trademark of Head Chef Willi Willson's cooking is that he permits foods to speak for themselves. He brings out the flavour of foods -- he does not bury the flavours of foods under sauces. His sauces tend to be subtle, delicate, and very tasty.

An area in which Kryptos really leads is in its providing of various types of lettuce, including green Romaine lettuce. And tender sweet raw spinach leaves. With zesty dressings (mostly variations on oil and vinegar), and various types of black and green olives.

Lightly-cooked broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans are there. This afternoon, the lightly-battered and tempura-fried slices of zucchini were out-of-this-world!

For dessert, there are brownies and cakes, and fresh fruits.

Somehow, I often feel sprightly after eating lunch at Kryptos. I tend to not get the stuffed and heavy feeling I sometimes get after eating at some other buffets.

Regarding service: efficiency is fine, and morale seems high. One feels one is among friends.

All-in-all, Kryptos is an excellent dining option in Chennai, and we are lucky to have this restaurant here.

An authentic Greek experience!

I went with a few friends to try out the Kryptos lunch buffet, and man it was a delight.

They had plenty of delicious options to choose from, starting from a wonderful Mediterranean broth, lamb cutlets, a salad bar and lovely Greek dips to go with it to a well spiced and well balanced main course which consisted of beef moussaka, chickpea rice, dolmades, seasoned potatoes and other Greek delicacies. Dessert was wonderful for the palate, with a selection of pastries and pies and also a traditional Greek yoghurt.

The interiors are modern and beautifully lit and the place is great for a perfect Greek meal.

Absolutely loved it! Well done to Vipin Sachdev, who knows exactly what food is all about.

Was there for my friend's birthday celebration. I have never had greek food before. Went for the main course that come with the salad counter and stuff. I loved the food here. Nice and pleasing ambience. I had pasta and it was very good. I recommend this place for any occasion.

A Greeky Experience :D

Kryptos by Willi, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nangambakam
An underground restaurant that is very authentically Greek. Very tasty food, Chef Willi seems to have kept up to his standards. The salad buffet is huge and one gets spoilt for choice. The salads are a free appetizer on ordering a main. I ordered a moussakka and it was extremely tasty. Was too full by the end of the meal so didn't have space for dessert. I'm sure I'll keep going back to Kryptos for more! The food was very tasty, the ambiance good, and the service was very good and quick. Slightly on the costlier side. The waiters always had a smile and so do you when you leave.

Rendezvous with the Greek

Greek food is something Ive always wanted to experiment. Be it the interiors or the delectable food, Kryptos surpassed my expectations. Though it is expensive, the food here is just worth every penny. Went here with a friend quite a long time ago, we ordered the Cheese Pastries for starters. It just melted in our mouth. This was followed by Phyllo Pie which was great too but a bit too cheesy. The service is great and music gives the finishing touch

awesome salads and food!!!

So, being a big fan of masterchef australia and george, the judge who is greek, i was curious to try out greek cusine!

so, turned up at kryptos not knowing what to experience.

it is in the basement of the building and the ambience and decor is just too good!!! everything is in greek, including the menu!!!! i havent been to greece yet, but i guess this is the closest i could get to greece!!! :p

the service is stellar! very mindful and attentive! kudos to that!!!

coming to the food, i cant remember the names of things i ordered, but i think it was a musakka which is a potato and lamb based dish was really nice. the best part was the free salad buffet you were entitled to on ordering a main.

those salads were the freshest and tastiest salads i have had in a long long time!

i just wish i had written this review the day i went as i would have remembered names then.

however, in a nutshell, this place is a MUST VISIT for authentic greek flavours and not an indianised version of the same.

absolutely loved it and will be back soon!!!

ambience, service and food, without a doubt was 5/5

Fresh and excellent - just what I needed!

I was in the mood for some tasty fresh Western-style food - as a break from spicy/masala food - and this restaurant delivered exactly. I'm recovering from a 3-day bout of gastro, and so have eaten nothing but 3 apples and a few slices of bread for the last few days, so was feeling ravenous!

My waiter Mani was superb. He listened attentively, was hospitable without being intrusive, and recommended an excellent dish which was exactly what I was in the mood for. I had the fish in light mustard sauce. The complimentary salad and fresh lemon drink were delicious, especially the chargrilled vegetables. The couscous which came with the fish, was nice, light, buttery.

Incidentally I read a couple of reviews here about the music - however tonight it was greek-styled music at about the right pitch, not intrusive to conversation.

Thank you guys for giving me a superb meal, keep up the good work!

Service of the highest standards! Fabulous place!

We walked into Kryptos on a Friday night. I had gone with guests from Singapore. Honestly my first impression was it seemed like any other upmarket restaurant. Nothing to really take my breath away. The good thing was we got a table easily. Yet on the other hand I was surprised at the lack of crowd given all the celebrity spotting Ive heard about. The food was good. But you could definitely do with a better wine selection. Then came the incident that blew us away. At the end of the meal the waiter attending our table brought a birthday cake for one my guests. We were surprised as we did not remember telling him it was her birthday. He said he over heard us wishing her when he was taking the orders. Now thats SERVICE! It made up for any other little shortcomings. Never experienced anything like that in Chennai. It felt so nice to hear guests from abroad rave about service in Chennai (my hometown) given that they themselves come from a country that prides itself on its hospitality and tourism. Kudos to the waiter and Mr Sachdev for inculcating such a culture.

Amazing experience

This is the first time im trying a greek cuisine.Me being a vegetarian i had my own doubts about how the food will be.But to my suprise it turned out to be excellent. We ordered a cheese pastry ,mushroom pastry and something in chicken(For my friend). All the starters were great.the cheese and mushroom pastry were yumm. The cheese used in it were just too good.Next we ordered a baked mousaka. It was good too ,nothing to complain about.I have heard a lot about baklava and we decided to have one.It was good but it was very similar to indian sweets. The service was spot on and the waiters were well trained.they helped us to select the menu.Ambiance is superb. The entire bill came to around rs1300 which is pretty good for the kind of food served here.Kryptos is a must visit place for anyone who wants to eat something different from the usual.

Fabulous Food

Kryptos is one of my favourite restaurants in chennai. They serve the most yummy range of salads. Their salad bar is to die for. What I really like is the fact that they have many accompanying dips, pickled veggies, breads etc on offer with the salads. Plus their service is good. The staff is super nice. We once requested for a Pizza and they organised it from the kitchen on their sister concern ( Tuscana ).Its one place that I would recommend to all salad lovers :)

Good Stuff :D

“Kryptos by Willi” at KNK Rd, chn, is “something different” and I don’t mean just being a “Greek” restaurant plum in the middle of a very-India-Chennai.

The highlight of my lunch was the fantastic line up on the salad bar! We’ll definitely go bak…and this time instead of filling up on the finger-licking entrees (which if I may add given a limited experience in Greek food – was not so authentic as in greasy, as normally Greek food tends to be). The salads out-define any conventional “Indian” definition of salads - this food is addictive; I could probably can eat it every day- humus and vegetables! The cosy, rustic ambience, no-hang ups attitude and great customer service finish off the list! Did not get to sample their desserts having gorged on the salads…baklavas here I come, super salads notwithstanding!

Impressive, a few minor flaws though

This was our first time at Kryptos by Willi and we had an average experience, but expected better.

Excellent ambience, it is the best to have a nice lunch with family and friends.

However, service could have been slightly better, I feel..........we were given a table for two in a corner of the room, which was good, no complaints about the table, but we had to turn and call the waiters to come for everything, even to serve water, as he left after glasses were just laid on the table, empty.

Then we placed our order, a veg mezze (starter) - Tomato tartlets, a veg main course- Braised eggplant greek casserole and a dessert- Chocolate Greek Puffs with Choco Gelato. The waiter left after taking our order and returned after 15 minutes, only to inform that the tomato tartlets were not available for the day.

It would have been better had he been aware of it while taking our order and suggesting an alternative mezze for us or informing us to order another mezze.

Well, anyways, after a bit of a wait again, we ordered a plate of falafels as our alternative mezze, which took another 15 minutes to be prepared, leaving us reallyyyyyy hungry :D

As for the main course, the taste and quality was really authentic and good, though we felt the quantity was not satisfactory though, definetly not when you are really hungry!!

Hats off to the dessert!! One of the best desserts I have had in my life.........the taste still lingers in my tongue :)

It would be much appreciated if you would correct these flaws, however did enjoy the experience at Kryptos :)

The earth shook

We settled down in a fine ambience in the basement ... the casual air that triggers conversation hung politely. I walked in without checking out anything_ with an open mind_so to speak and this made everything look Greek to me. We started out with our voyage.. Arnipitakia .. the lamb mince and feta cheese to start with and then tried a whole lot of other stuff Sardeles was stunning. Kotapitta was the kind of stuff one would not want to miss .. not to leave out the Grilled Chicken
Amidst all the muted conversation that we started with .. eating along our moods lifted .. all those imagery off Greece and it the mythology as a ticker tape runs ur mind.
Remember all this happens in the basement, and then after a while you just get lifted up to Greece vitrually so when we stepped out to see the crowd stunned by the Quake that hit the city (chennai) we were blissfully unaware... as the real world slowly dawned on us

Greek Gods!

There’s a fascinating salad buffet that Kryptos does which, in my own opinion, is probably the best in town. Somehow the ambience at Kryptos – it is located in the basement of an upmarket shopping complex – allows you to walk down and let all the chaos of the world above, just be! If you are eating this kind of cuisine for the first time, don’t hesitate to ask the staff for help. They are clued in and are willing to fill you in. My personal favourite is the Mousakka; the portions here are just right and a meal here will never make you feel full in a way that you vow you’ll never go back. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. I’ve gone there with friends four weeks in a row and every time, the food has been a process of discovery.

Amazing Ambiance with awesome food

The Kryptos by Willi a Greek Restaurant, on Khader Nawaz Khan Road, is my favourite Greek-style restaurant. To judge a Greek restaurant, the quality of the calamari is most important and at Kryptos the quality is excellent. The batter is light, the spicing is perfect, and the deep frying is just right. The Servers were quite knowledgeable and hospitable!! Would definitely recommend them!!

A must-try in Chennai

This is a simply excellent restaurant. The decor isn't extremely lavish, but it's clean, the servers are knowledgeable and helpful, and it's comfortable to enjoy a lunch or dinner.

The food here is very flavourful and really does mediterannean cuisine justice. I wish I knew how to make these things myself. The gyro's are excellent, the hummus has great texture, grilled vegetables were well-seasoned, and the servings are more than adequate. I'll definitely be back here many more times so that I can try more things on the menu, including desserts that looked very appealing but couldn't fit after a large ordering of starters and mains.

MAKE A DATE WITH GREEK FOOD

Kryptos by Chef Willi is a gastronomical fare. I visited this place for a brief sampling of food for my food review show, and during my visit what struck me most was the involvement of Willi with his food and his staff. With that, I was certain my food was also good. The mezze platter is wonderful and although Greek cuisine is still picking up with the culture of Chennai, the environment and the delight to enjoy platters with friends keeps this place alive and buzzing! The fresh food on the counter only adds to the hunger pangs, and again, I loved the dessert offer here… simply ‘pentanostimo’!!

The Mediterranean in Madras

No conversation about the Mediterranean region fails to bring to one’s imagination the azure waters, jolly delightful climate, charming people, rich cultural heritage and the marvellous cuisine; epitomizing the sense of joie de vivre.
Kryptos by Willi adds to the diversity of Chennai’s culinary landscape bringing the Mediterranean to Madras with an impressive expanse of Greek dishes served in a soothing and cosy ambience. The restaurant located in the shopping district of Nungambakkam provides a fine dining experience with large and comfy seating spaces for groups of family and friends in the centre of the hall and the corner tables for those in a small gathering.
Though my ability to comment on the authenticity is constrained by the limited knowledge and experience of this particular cuisine, it matters little for my taste buds as long their various temptations are comprehensively entertained and so they were with an eclectic assortment of salads, classic meze dishes, vegetarian and non-vegetarian main course, desserts and drinks. Starting with the starters I thoroughly enjoyed the crispy phyllo pastries with minced lamb filling and the delectable shredded emu in a brilliant concoction of spices followed by the scintillating flavour of chicken breast roasted with garlic and marinated in lemon juice and mint and a small serving of Halloumi cheese filled ravioli from my vegetarian friend’s plate which he was quite reluctant to part with. There is also a range of classic souvlaki and kebabs on offer and I was indeed intrigued by the beef tenderloin chunks filled with slipper lobster and was more than glad to have opted for this gastronomic experiment. Then came the most important part for a sweet toothed person like I and the opportunity was well exploited with the classic baklava which I can say was perfectly authentic as I have been a fan for long. There is also a variety of beverages on the menu which we had to miss out on as unlike the heart, the tummy had had a fair share of indulgence for the evening but I promised myself to try the Greek Lantern, the Greek version of mojito, on my next visit.
Same as the delicacies, the service being impeccably professional deserves a commendable note. The meal costs approximately 650 INR per person which is justiciable for the lovely ambiance and experience.

Slurpppp

Wanted to go for family dinner and made reservation for table for 3 on Saturday night. As soon as you enter, you are greeted with a warm smile. My mother-in-law had the veg salad buffet, which comes along with soup. Husband and me ordered Kalitsounia for starter. Don't be deceived by the quantity of the starter. It looks small in portion but it's absolutely filling and delicious. It has a nice sweetness to it. For Main course, I ordered Kritiko Boureki and hubby ordered Spanáki kai Tyrí Kotópoulo. Husband kept raving about his chicken breast, while I was happily tucking into my potato and cheese filled pastry. We ended our meal with the super delicious Milopita Nissiotiki. It was refreshing with the orange zest. There was a huge smile on my face after the dessert

He who eats alone chokes alone! Spread the word!!

When my friend suggested trying a Greek restaurant in the city I was more than excited to try it out. Kryptos is placed inconspicuously on Khader Navas Khan Road tucked away from the bustle of the maddening crowd. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with smiling faces and Greek-y aromas that tickle your appetite.
The decor kicks in as soon as you settle down to eat. The ambience and the music give you the repose you have always been looking for. The staff is professional, well familiar with the menu and eager to answer your queries. Well, I wasn’t sure of the pronunciation but they seemed to be well versed and even more excited to help you with your options.
The Arnipitakia was a classic choice for a starter which was recommended by our server Vignesh turned out to be a stand out. The tiny rolls of pastry are light and crumble in your mouth giving way to the juicy minced lamb (Recollecting it alone makes my mouth water). The Stifado was a treat with the beef cooked to perfection. My friend wanting to try out something with chicken ordered Kotopoulo me Pilafi. The sizable portion of roasted chicken breast that came was rich with complimenting flavors of mint and lime.
For a sweet finish to the awesome course Fondant Sokolatas topped it all. The cake was sticky and dense just to the right amount. As a person who likes good food I would give them all the stars they deserve.
However, the only trouble would be finding Kryptos when you want to enjoy the exotic cuisine. I myself have before this, passed right by and I am surprised to not have noticed Kryptos enticing me with their a la carte. Care taken, then the food lovers’ bevy would not miss out on the best of what this city has to offer. But dining in with them, you will definitely alter your loyalties. Just like me.

The most amazing Greek food

I went to Kryptos by Willi with my friends last week. The ambience is so classy. The service so good. The waiters know the menu so well and were helpful in suggesting and describing dishes to us ladies patiently. The Chef came out to meet us since we had too many questions. He went back into his open kitchen and dished out some amazing dishes. We had lamb mousakka and a chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese. Both were so flavourful. Before the main course arrived we had the salad buffet which was such a visual treat. All the salads and dressings were so fresh just like the pita and hummus that came to our table. I highly recommend the Greek frappe which was a welcome drink. You must have the baklava and the chocolate fondant. for dessert for sure. Overall the experience was very good and the pricing is total value for money as the quality of food served was outstanding. Will i go back again? YES FOR SURE. Keep it up guys!

Thank you for your review. I am glad that Chennaites have started loving a entire authentic Greek meal in a Greeky ambience. Unfortunately we do not have Greek gods to serve. Cheers.

Great food, Rotten Kids

Went to Kryptos to take a friend out on his birthday. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was very good. He loved it and so did we.

The experience was only marred by an expat family that allowed their numerous children to go wild in the place. Running around the tables, yelling, taunting the staff and being a general disturbance. It is wrong to allow such behavior and immoral to allow a 9 year old to tease and try to intimidate adult staff.

The little mezze plate and juice shooter was a nice touch to start the meal. It is a terrible shame that real olives are not available in Chennai though.

The appetizer bar was very nice and had some excellent hummus, roast beet and grilled peper dishes. I could live on Pita and humus. It was so nice to get real feta again.

Because we like trying different foods, we were passing around everything. The dolmas, and apricot chicken puffs were super, the moussaka is one of the best I have had anywhere. The lamb in grape leaves was an interesting approach to the classic braised lamb shanks. Great sauce but could have used a little orzo to soak it up.

The walnut cake, panna cotta and cappucino were a great ending. We will definitely be back, it was a great meal. We will just hope that the brats get left home with the sitter next time.

As much as I adore children, I applaud the restaurants who will not tolerate screaming children who disturb other diners.
We don’t expect diners to suffer from secondhand smoke anymore. We wouldn't tolerate disorderly behavior from an adult in a restaurant. Why can’t we expect the same courtesies from parents with disorderly children?
These are my personal views as a guest when i visit other restaurants as a diner.
I am surprised that our restaurant staff at Kryptos failed to make amends to make your total experience great. Pleas

A wonderful Experience

Our first visit to Kryptos was a wonderful experience.....beautiful ambiance with a rustic wood decor, muted lighting and spacious seating. The lovely Mediterranean music and prompt service made the experience a very pleasant one.

We absolutely loved the food. We tried the Bourekia (a vegetarian starter ) and the delicate pastry with a delicious filling just melted in our mouths. Tried the kotopita for the main course which was another success.

Will definitely be visiting again !!!

Mr Vipin
Thank you for responding so promptly...and for the invite..but a good review must necessarily be based on a spontaneous visit..I am amazed you say that you do not cook on wood fired ovens - its what your order taker told me..Further, thats what your website says as well..I reproduce below...

We present at Tuscana wood fired pizzas with great flavour and aroma in true authentic style, straight from our own traditional wood fired pizza ovens and brought to your table in a joyful celebration of taste bud ecstasy.

Reviews must be joking !

I was back after a holiday to Turkey and Greece and decided to give this place a try ! It was a pretty sorry experience...the pizza was actually burnt at the bottom, coming out of the wood fired oven. The food was pretty average, being a food gourmet, this was disappointing..
And the bill for this very average food was certainly not `value for money'. When will we Indians learn that a `Whiteskin' doesnt make all things good ??

Good experience

Kryptos by Willi was a wonderful experience. A table for 3 was a tad above Rs. 2000. Wonderful veg and nonveg food, good ambience, friendly staff and a fairly quick service (10-12 mins) made it a worthwhile experience.

The good thing is that with every dish they provided (welcome drink/starter/side dish/main dish), they would always explain its contents. A soothing Mediterranean music and cozy decor added to the flavour The staff is also good at explaining the English meaning of the greek words. "Mani" was the name of our steward, and he was very helpful, and so was "Bhushan", the Manager.

Here's what we ordered with prices
Mez-Kotopoulo - Rs. 260
Arni - Rs.580
Vineleaf Lamb Rs. 620
One bottle of beer - Rs. 325
Zucchini Pie - Rs. 420

My first greek experience.

I had never tried greek food, largely due to the fact there was never one around. When I moved to Chennai I had heard about this place from someone during a casual conversation. Never paid much attention to it till my first visit to Tuscana pizzeria where I was told that Kryptos was owned by the same people. It wasn't until much later that I decided to go to Kryptos. I went there with a friend for dinner on a weekday not looking for something too heavy so we skipped starters and just ordered main course. But along with main course I had to order a portion of hummus and pita bread. Not the best hummus I had but it was still pretty good. I had the lamb kebab which was really good and then for dessert, we had a little portion of Baklava which I finished without leaving any for my friend. Not usually a selfish person but it was just that good. I really liked Kryptos. The staff were very friendly and the place just had a very comfortable, "you're meant to be here" vibe. People who are looking to try new cuisines should definitely try this place and for the rest, I urge to try it.

nice cozy place

went to this place last night....nice staff.Went with around 4-5 families that's around 20 odd people. We wasted our time with a tomato soup but when things became Geekier down the line.....food is very authentic good that they didn't indianize it with paneer and gobhi.

Price is bit on the higher side say 1k for a couple meal.

just go for the starters and the main course ditch the soups and desserts..... well i love mushrooms so went for a M kebab and when i started to dig more and more i tasted all the flavors i could.some were good some not so good.....i am not Greek you know....comes with exp to choose the right dish.

end of the day good place to hang out !!! will give 4 stars for food and 5 stars for the service....you get additional 20% off if you have a American express credit card.
which i had known...what a bummer.....

well check it out....worth a visit.....

The Hidden Delight !!!

Greek cuisine shares characteristics with other Mediterranean ones like Italy, the Balkans, Turkey and the Levant.

The main ingredients of Greek cuisine are basic and few: olive oil, honey, yoghurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, lamb and fish. The manner in which the delicacies are prepared is delightfully unconventional and exotic to the senses.

Kryptos is the Greek venture by the duo Vipin and Willi hidden away on the ever-bustling Khader Nawaz Khan Road.

Getting started

What caught our attention as we walked in for lunch was the long stone table providing seating for 20! “The most important thing to know about Greek culture is that eating out and sharing is as important as the food itself,” said Vipin (M.D) answering the first query that we shot at him.

Though this concept is not relished by many, the table holds the centre spot, encouraging strangers to share common space. There are also cosy corner tables for more private conversations.

Dim lights, unobtrusive music and collage of sequence carvings of stone and wooden walls adds on to the ambiance as well. They also have an open kitchen where one is always welcome to view the offerings and customise it according to one's preference.

Speaking of the food, you'll have to make more than one visit to do justice to the exhaustive menu that pays close attention to the plate as well as the palate.

The runaway favourite on the non-veg platter for us was Arnipitakia (baked rolls of phyllo pastry filled with minced lamb and feta) and the Kotopoulopitakia (chicken mince with apricot and feta wrapped in phyllo pastry).

The ruling dish on the veg platter was the Tiropitakia (phyllo pastries filled with mixed savoury cheeses), Eliotes (Cypriot kalamata black olive tapenade in pastry rolls with oregano) and Kalitsounia (baked pastries filled with ricotta, pumpkin and greens topped with sesame seeds).

We then headed straight to the main course: the Spanáki kai Tyrí Kotópoulo (chicken breast with spinach and cheese in red pepper marinade) and the Kotópoulo (chicken cubes rubbed with sumac, oregano, lemon, garlic and paprika) were wholesome with just the right amount of dressing .

Bursting with cheese and flavour, the Melitzanes Papoutsakia me Tiri (baked aubergines with mozzarella, potato, zucchini and béchamel) is a must-try and so is the Piperies Gemistes (braised red and yellow sweet peppers with tomato, pine nut, mint and basmati rice), which is delicately spiced to perfection.

Delicious desserts

The effervescent waiters were immediately by our side helping us choose the desserts. The delightful Svingi (melting chocolate filled hot Greek batter puffs with chocolate or vanilla gelato) and a sinful helping of the Baklava (a very traditional pastry of layered phyllo with walnut, pistachio and almond) is a sweet indulgence.

For health freaks there is a chilled mezze buffet consisting of soups, salads and deserts.

Cost for two: Rs. 1300 - 1500

Wow!!!

Great vegetarian options. Scrumptious food - had the tiropitakia (lovely cheese filled triangles), Falafel gyro (came with amazing French fries) and the Kritiko Boureko (pastro filled with potatoes, zucchini and squash - best Greek dish I have ever had!) We live in the States and this beats Greek food around us hands down. So glad we tried it! You should too! Kudos to the Chefs!

Great food. Avoid the desserts.

Went to Kryptos for lunch yesterday. The ambiance is great with very comfy seating and dim lighting that's just perfect!

We ordered the Haloumi cheese, a Mezze platter (with - I forget the names - the nion and tomato tartlets, the rice wrapped in vine leaves, the ground olives in some kind of bread, and savoury cheeses wrapped in phyllo). All this we rounded ff with a salad and an order of kalamari.

The food was WONDERFUL! They start you off with some flat-bread and dips. The white one is brilliant. It's practically air flavoured with garlic. (I think it's cream or dahi, but all one can taste is mild garlic !) What a pleasure for the tastebuds! The red sauce can be completely avoided. If the white takes you drifting up to heaven, this brings you down to earth with a rude shock. It's some salsa wannabe with NOTHING going for it.

The food arrived rather quickly. My cuz complained that the kalamari was "un-imaginative" - as I'm a vegetarian, I take her word for it. I'm guessing lamb or something else would have received a better verdict. All I will say is she left half the dish and declared that the veg stuff is amazing by comparison.

The veggie food WAS fantastic! The haloumi was a bit of a disappointment, since it had turned rubbery because of the time-lag between the grilling and their delivery (maybe a sizzler plate would help this). The mezze platter was full of little bits of heaven, not overspiced, not overcooked, just PERFECT! The salad was fine - nothing over-imaginative. Just good fresh crunchy veggies in a nice dressing.

In a wonderful haze induced by the excellent food, we ordered dessert and coffee. The greek coffee was unavailable. Why? I don't really understand. However, we ordered baklavah, some semolina thing in phyll covered with cherries and espresso. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! I remember baklavah to be little pieces of heaven, layers of phyllo interspersed with ground up nuts, all infused with honey. What we got was some very hard halva-type thing between two layers f phyllo. It was so hard that I had to request a knife to cut it. The semolina thing was strictly ok. I personally did not like the cherries (they tasted somewhat synthetic). What a crappy end to a wonderful meal!

The pricing, as with Tuscana, raises the eyebrows. I agree that some of the food deserves the money, but what about the food that is crap? I paid about Rs 500 for the desserts that were shit! THAT really put me off. But, I guess the next time, we'll eat here and then go to mocha for dessert and coffee (they WOULD have Greek/Turkish/Arabic coffee!)

The most amazing thing happened on our way out. We noticed the buffet. Mounds of olives, beautiful cheeses, crisp veggies, some delicious looking bread! Oh how we wanted to go back and eat some more! That being impossible, we plan to go there for lunch today. Kalí óreksi!

Tongue twister menu and mouth watering food

The first time we visited Kryptos was right before a movie on a weekend and had to gobble down our food and run, but we loved the place so much that the very next week we were back with our family. The ambiance of the place is pretty nice, it generally is a little noisy, but in a very nice community sort of way so doesn't irritate and the staff is very helpful and can actually pronounce all the names with such ease it's commendable :)

The first time we visited I tried their 'Garides me feta' which basically is large prawns served with a tomato sauce which has olives, garlic, thyme and feta. It was simply sensational. The sauce was pure gold. All the flavors balanced perfectly and the feta, oh the feta added the right amount of saltiness to every bite. Priced at 1000 this dish is a little harsh on the pocket but then like the heart my tongue wants what it wants, so now this is going to be the one dish I order most of the times I visit Kryptos.

Other things that we tried were 'Ispanika Psari Mantis' which was a sear fish kebab, umm I don't remember the name but a lamb kebab. The Kebabs though not bad were a little too dry for my liking, I like my meat succulent yet well done.

The panna cotta served in Kryptos 'Yiaourlomele' was a yoghurt and vanilla panna cotta but was a bit too thick and I have already vouched my eternal loyalty to the Panna cotta at Tuscana so we headed there to wolf down the diva of all panna cottas ever.

A meal for 4 cost us 3500 without the desserts and we would love to go back soon :)

Oh, and I loved the small card in which my credit card was returned, which had a sweet quote from chef Willi.

Value for Money

As soon as I heard that Chef Willi from Tuscana fame was opening a new restaurant, I make it a point to go to Kryptos every week. The service is amazing! I love the salad bar, and especially adore the fresh mozzarella. I always eat the mousaka, and my family and I love how there are soo many options for vegetarians too. My favourite is the Baklava, perfectly sweet, and it reminds me of my holiday in Istanbul, considering how Turkish and Greek food is very similar. I also look forward to the Greek Panna Cotta. I always sit at the large common table that dominates the center of the restaurant because I always make new friends after every meal. Best of luck Kryptos!

Ah!what a gem!

a bunch of friends went to this lovely place for dinner last night and boy was i thrilled by the end of the meal!!

the pros
1.very very helpful and know -t-all waiter made the job so easy for us!given that we couldn pronounce half the words on the menu, this was a big plus!
2.lovely ambience.
3.the orders did not take long time to come at all just about right as though they communicate with our tummies and know the rumbles better than us!
4.the starters the emu bird balls was alright but the phylo pastry chicken blew us away!
5.main course comprised of minced lamb, chicken breast stuffed with spinach,a phylo pastry chicken and beef tenderloin cooked with rosemary.every dish was cooked perfectly, served hot and had nice accompaniments!
6.extra olives were never frowned upon and our milkshakes and juices were a delight!
7.oh,the desserts!what can i say!! the swingys(?) not sure of the name was my pick!

the cons
ah! really nothing!! i mean absolutely nothing!!

verdict:
not knowing the greek names or the vague description in english should not put you off,the waiters are more than happy to explain to you what it means and all the low downs of that dish and even recommends the one suiting your taste.
the portions of the main course is surely a bit more filling for one person so if you go in a group remember it would be good to share!
expensive?yes. for 5 people with 2 starters,4 main course,5 drinks and 2 desserts ,the bill was 4300 but absolutely worth it!

will i go again?? hell, yeah! i did not sample the desserts so until that checklist is ticked off i am going to be seen there!!

Refreshing addition to Chennai

Every time I am in town, I am looking out for the newest restaurant and that's how during out recent trip we decided to check out this new place on a Saturday night. A nicely done up place, with beautiul marble tables right in the middle and an overview of the kitchen with warm lighting sets the stage for what is about to be a rather interesting experience. I am so glad, Wili did not try to "Indianize" Greek food - instead stuck to his gut and decided to let people experiment and come out from their comfor zones -in terms of what their palate is always used to.
We ( 3 of us) ordered a cold mezze as an appetizer, Mez Koup Emu starters ( cutlet like thingys) - and thats right I couldnt believe there was Emu on the menu!!! interesting!, spanakopita (spinach pie) and chick kebab for our main course.
While the kebab was the clear winner of our evening, we also really enjoyed the cold appetizer, extremely fresh and flavorful and nothing like I had experience before, great stuff! The spinach pie was a let down, I was expecting it to be a lot more creamier, richer in flavor etc. It was missing all these components. I have had better spanakopita's elsewhere!!

We also had some room to share a dessert-cheesecake between the 3 of us, and yes that hit the spot.. bang on!!! absolutely light and delicious, was just the perfect ending!!!

all this and the price was 1785, which wasnt that bad, compared to other cities. Just hope they keep up with the quality of food/service!!!

Only for the taste adventurers

We visited this place a couple of weeks ago to try something different. And it justified that aspect well. Most of the things on the menu are different in nomenclature, cooking methods and taste. Although if you have a taste for a very Indian food, you will most likely not like this place.
Food could either be had from a cold buffet comprising of various hummus and dips and salads, both fresh and semi cooked or A la carte from a decent sized menu of both veg and non veg dishes. Most dishes sound or seem authentic Greek (cuisine served here) and all main course dishes are served with potato wedges, salad, dip and some of them with rice. Food is usually cold (intentionally) and not spicy and can be a little dry for the Indian palette. So u need to have a palette willing to experiment
The ambiance is nice. The entrance has wallpapers with Greek symbols inscribed but inside its just a contemporary modern restaurant. I'm not complaining - it was neat, right temperature and well spaced but they could do well to put a few things central to the theme.
Each dish is about 300 bucks....average. The staff is extremely courteous and friendly and the service is fairly fast. If you don't mind being adventurous with food, you know where you are going this weekend.

cozy but not so tasty

For a Saturday night and without a reservation, I expected to be asked to wait for a long time. But was pleasantly surprised when I reached at around 10 PM and got a table within 5 minutes.

My first impression was that of a cozy place, good ambiance, appropriate lighting with Greek letters and music in the background. The layout is rather open and doesn't offer too much of privacy and could get noisy at peak time. I could see a spattering of foreigners in a corner, but otherwise, it was us Chennaites exploring the Greek cuisine.

I must complement the staff who are helpful-for starters helping us get the pronunciation correct and helping us choose. As compliments, they presented to me some pita and a variety of accompaniments. The bread was pathetic!

I started with the warm mezze platter-they do offer a mix of platters and let you choose a combination. I chose a lamb and chicken mix. The lamb was good but the chicken was just average. While they do choose a mix of portions, be careful, coz they charge you not the average of the two prices but the higher price of the two! (they don't tell you this at the beginning and you get to realize this only when the bill arrives!)

For the main course, I had a Bekti Lavraki-fish fillets with baked potatoes. The fish tasted quite old and wasn't tender. For dessert, I was tempted to check out the Baklava but decided against it and went for a safer option of espresso!

All in all, compared to the Tuscana experience, I didnt feel quite happy with my Kryptos experience.

we went there with great expectation and it let us down badly. the cold mezze platter was really really cold with nothing to write about except for hummus which was light and good. the bread section was a disaster . we have to dip the bread into the bean soup to get it pass through the throat . haricot vert needs chewing and chewing and more chewing -not done well :( . thank god, the pita bread was warm and good. the mojito was nothing but 7up topped with chopped mint and lemon bits - hopless .the ravioli was tough .. no i do not want to continue..it makes me sad. the end result was so bad that it left us with the yearning for simple dal / chawal and the feeling of being cheated - yes we paid loads for the disastrous dinner. no we will not visit the restaurant again .

Great food

The idea of a Greek restaurant in Chennai has been the cause of much excitement in my life and I have frequented this place quite a bit. Kryptos is tucked away in a basement on Khader Nawaz Khan Road. The ambiance is cozy and the warm not-so-bright lighting complements the mood of the place. I like the understated decor.

For starters, I recommend you try the Warm Meze dishes. Cheese lovers will like the Tiropitakia: a small phylo pastry filled with different types of cheese (Rs. 280). While I am generally wary of pumpkin based dishes, the Kalitsounia (Rs. 300) (pastries with a filling of ricotta cheese and pumpkin) was surprisingly good. It had the right sweet-sour mix. My favourite however is the Eliotes (Rs.250)an olive filled phylo pastry. The salty, tangy flavour was spot on and quite unlike any of the other starters. All of these are served with aubergine crisps (like the tamil 'varuvals') and tzatziki dip.

In the main course you can choose from Gyros, Souvlakis and many other traditional Greek dishes whose spelling I shall not butcher. If you are looking for something uncomplicated and filling, then the Gyros (Rs.450-520) are the way to go. These sandwich wraps filled with meat/veggies, fries, a little salad and generous helpings of tzatziki sauce are a good lunch option. Caveat: they can get messy.

However, when I do make the trip to Kryptos I prefer to order something more indulgent. Grumpu had the Grilled Haloumi Skewers (Rs.580) last time and quite enjoyed it. The sweet peppers stuffed with rice, pine nut and spices (or as they like to call it, the Domates Piperies) has a distinct tangy-tomato flavour and is one of my favourites. I love brinjals and consequently, love the Imam Bayildi (Rs. 450)(slow cooked aubergines with oil, spices and other good things). They also have a Cold Mezze (Rs.450) buffet in the evenings which is a good value for money option.

Quantities at Kryptos are fairly good and should leave you satisfied. However, don't leave quite yet. My favourite dish here has to be the Baklava (Rs.180). I never leave without ordering this sweet, nut and syrup filled pastry and neither should you. The Kryptos version avoids the sticky-sweetness and dripping-syrup to which so many other baklavas fall prey and for this I am very thankful.

Kryptos definitely livens up the Chennai eating scene. Between you and me, I prefer Kryptos to its much adored cousin: Tuscana. However, quite like most good things in life, it is a tad on the expensive side. So be prepared to loosen those purse strings.

Pricing: Rs. 1200 - 1400 for a meal for two

A unique restaurant

Kryptos by Willis with its location in Kader Nawaz Khan Road is the perfect place to have a business lunch or to enjoy a dinner after a busy shopping afternoon. The Greek cuisine offered is the first of its kind here in Chennai. The ambiance is relaxing and the staff professional.
I always enjoy the mezzes and the variety and quality of food really worth it.

Worth fighting over?

I had been to Kryptos right when it started in September. I had a great experience back then but judging from the recent reviews on burrp, I'm not quite sure how the restuarant is faring these days.

Stanoid, all the new reviews that you think are fake are being looked into. As far as your reviews are concerned, we appreciate reviews of the restaurant, not reviews of other users' reviews. I hope you do understand.

Expensive Greek

After its grand opening, which I thoroughly enjoyed, my second visit to Kryptos was a rather forgetful one - very bad one in fact. I had made my thought clear to the manager and he was more than happy to listen to complaints without ever once being defensive - so Kudos to their managerial and service team .So when friends suggested that we meet there again for a community lunch on a fine Saturday afternoon, I had no qualms and went ahead and found change in almost every aspect!

The previous time I went, the starters had too much puff pastry and too little meat and when its priced at about Rs 500, you feel let down. So when this time, the Arnipitakia - puff pastry with stuffed lamb was brought, I was skeptical, but what a change - you could just not complain. The lamb inside was perfectly cooked and the puff pastry was just right! Kotopoulopitakia-Stuffed chicken and phyllo pastry rolls with apricot and feta cheese was equally brilliant. The cold mezze platter was not up to the mark, though a couple of them were decent, but the two starters more than made up for it!

Since we were about eight of us, I got to try various dishes for the main course and some of them were quite outstanding - the Kotopittai which is diced chicken wrapped in béchamel and baked in layered phyllo pastry served with salad and baked potato - simply superb. The chicken souvlaki is their trademark dish, I guess and it was very average mainly because the pita bread, while the Lahano Dolmathes which is Tenderloin filled braised cabbage leaves in lemon and butter egg sauce with bean Casserole was quite brilliant.

However, the Gyros were still not upto the mark and in my opinion I feel that though this team has a history of brilliant bread making, they have just not mastered the art of the Pita bread - they are just not able to do justice to the Pita bread, so the gyros and the falafels fall out in taste as they are not packaged right! So I would stay out of these, though these are pretty Greeky and I hope that the team of chefs fix them soon!

The desserts here are brilliant - just brililant! They have the best Baklava in town and nothing is more Greek than Baklava, so........ Their mango cheese cake was again awesome, just perfect!

Service is outstanding, attentive and if you make suggestions, they are even willing to borrow a couple of ears and listen to you if they must! And if your suggestions make sense, believe me, you will see a change quite soon as I saw, so full marks for their service. The one drawback to me here was the price of starters- Rs 500 is very high for a few starters by any stretch of imagination so while the prices are high for main course and can be justified, the price of some starters are quite high!

I know now precisely what to order here and so I am sure I will enjoy my meal everytime! Their baked dishes are very good, but I hope the gyros, the pita bread and hummus gets fixed, because I know for a fact that if this gets fixed, this will just juice you up everytime!

Greek food takes some getting used to - if you are looking for chicken tikka tasting alternative, then this is certainly not the place -it will leave you disappointed and your wallet empty, but if you want to try something Greek, then this is not a bad place, though this is certainly not the best Greek outlet in town!

Food 7/10
Service 9.5/10
Ambiance 9/10
Price 6/10

Disturbing

I have been a bit disturbed by what Stanoid has been saying about his reviews being taken down. He's right about some of those other reviews reading like advertising. Really don't like the sound of that. Shouldn't it be power to the people and not power to the restaurants?

Went to Kryptos a while ago and didn't think much to it by the way. Don't understand all the glowing reviews. For the prices they charge you should get much more. Didn't really think about it much until I started reading what's been going on here. Don't think I will be going back.

Serious damage to your wallet

The first time I went to Kryptos I thought the setting and the atmosphere were quite good. This last time I wasn't impressed at all. What is it with restaurants in Chennai - they start out so well but the shine wears off really quickly. The worst bit is when the bill arrives. I am not sure how they can justify such high prices. Not good value for money.

Greece makes an entrance to Chennai!

Kryptos by Willis is located their first outlet in Kader Nawaz Khan Road. It offers Cypriotic (Mediterranean - predominantly from regions in and around Greece) cuisine which will be first of its kind here in Chennai. The menu extends quite the offering unlike Chennai has ever seen before and the ambiance itself is an experience one will truly enjoy.

The Mezze Cold Platter, Entrees, Main Courses and Dessert all as Authentic as it ever can be. The serving is generous and is well worth the price we pay for. The quality of the food is also enhanced by the warm and friendly service who have been well trained.

This restaurant will certainly up the ante for the class dining experience in the city and this restaurant shall be one of the top city's favorite in its class.

A good alternative to routine food

The first time I heard "Greek food", I said "What?". But my doubts vanished when I went there. Definitely a good choice if you are fed up with routine Indian / Chinese / Italian stuff, and want to try something different.

The thing I like most, is the vegetarian choices (a must for me), and the passion of the Chef Willi.

kryptossssssss

Kryptos means 'hidden' or 'Secret' in Greek. Thats the first thing I found out once I got back from the restaurant. This interiors at the restaurant will catch your eye and when the menu makes its entry make sure you take your time. If some names are unfamiliar, don't feel shy to ask the staff because they do a great job of describing each dish.

but my personal favourite is the Chilled meze counter. Whether a vegetarian or Non Vegetarian, you will be happy. A place you must visit. According to me, one of Chennai top 3 restaurants.

A Homeric Ode to Kryptos

People are fond of complaining that healthy food usually doesn't taste good.
So one has to sacrifice taste for good health...or so the popular belief goes.
Mediterranean food is not only delicious but extremely healthy (just ask any nutritionist).
If you are looking for good taste without the guilt, it doesn't get any better than this!

Eat all you like!

I have been to Kryptos 15 times since it opened. Yup no less. And what do I eat there? Cold mezze platter. I haven't had anything else here. There is no need to have anything else when the cold mezze platter is so awesome, but I have promised myself to have something else the next time around, since the people who accompany me always tell me how amazing their food is, while I don't even bother trying anything else while stuffing myself with juicy Dolmas - rice wrapped in vine leaves.

Am told that their grills are perfect - crisp on the outside, flavourful and soft on the inside - and greek classics too look tempting. Maybe next time I'll have the Moussaka.

Must eats on the cold mezze platter buffet - Beef Roulade, pickled capsicum, chicken salad, pickled sardines and the meatball soup.

If you are a good eater like me, this is a place you will absolutely enjoy not only for the food but the quiet yet busy ambience and attentive service.

The Big Fat Greek Meal!

Kryptos by the Tuscana group is the latest addition to the city's culinary scene.

We step into the restaurant and are charmed by the interiors! Wooden, stone & metallic walls make the place look gorgeous. It's obvious that a lot of attention has been paid to details. The ambiance is top notch to make for a fine dining experience, yet exudes a warm fuzzy feeling!

Vegetarians won't feel left out here. The menu offers a vast variety of vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian mezze, salads, soups, main course, side dishes, beverages & desserts. The mezze - Beef Ball Keftedes was a great way to start our meal. It had no masalas thrown in to suit the Indian palate but wasn't bland either. The flavours of oregano & garlic combined with the lovely meat were wonderful. Our main course consisted of the Spinach Phyllo Pie & the Chicken Souvlaki. The pie is strictly for spinach lovers. Mashed spinach in phyllo pastry wasn't quite to our liking. The Chicken Souvlaki on the other hand was quite impressive. The chicken was succulent; when combined with the yoghurt dip, french fries & pita bread, it turned out to be a decent wrap. We tried the Svingi for dessert - batter-fried puffs filled with chocolate, served with vanilla gelato. What a perfect way to end the meal, we recommend! You could also wash the meal down with some of the mocktails or coffee available there.

If you want to experience Greece while in Chennai, Kryptos by Willi is your place. While the ambiance & service score full marks, the food could do with some improvement.

A Greek Experience

Went for lunch to Kryptos. The ambience is good and the spread extensive and very authentic.Something you expect from Chef Willi. The mezze platter(veg and non veg)were very good. The main course was good and the servings very generous. It is expensive though.Did not get to try the desserts. Will try the salad bar and the desserts next time.Definitely worth a visit for the real Greek experience.I recommend a visit. The service was slow, however.Probably the rush of a newly opened restaurant.
