Looked forward to a nice dining experience - but returned with an empty stomach, splitting headache, and a huge disappointment.
What surprised me was the presence of 3 or 4 senior staff (stewards) in flashy suits, who appeared busy hurrying in between the tables. They avoided eye contact with any of the guests. When I drew the attention of one of them to the empty trays on the buffet table and also the absence of full or half plates,he scurried to the kitchen. That was the last I saw of the 3 or 4 stewards. NEVER AGAIN!!
Worst Mainland China Branch Ever!
We are regulars to the Mainland China on Cenataph rd and for a change we thought, Lets try the nungambakam brand since that is the main branch. So my parents and I get there, get a table and the noise.. oh, the noise! Looks like a family was having a birthday party so everyone was screaming and yelling with kids running all over. I don't understand why they couldn't have a separate area in the restaurant away or booked a hall! Anyway, we go to the buffet table, and everything's empty! The starters were cold.. So we told the waiter to refill the dishes.. My parents (both 60+) waited and waited but no one bothered. We moved to the dessert... empty! With all the noise and big disappointment in the food and service, we asked for the bill and also complained to the manager about food not being there... He then scurried to a waiter and mumbled something. The waiter then brings a big plate of watermelon and we were like - huh? You really think this is going to change our mind?? A plate of watermelon!! We could also see other families complaining about the service and the food.
Anyway, this was the worst lunch experience and mind you, this is a gift from my sister! Definitely not a place to take elderly people.
Mainland China is a well known restaurant throughout the country. This specific restaurant is located in the Grad Ashok hotel in Nungaumbakkam, hospitality and the quality of the food offered in this beautiful place, stole my heart instantly. Food is good and service is decent and I had a great time being their. The interiors are done up very well with raw silk backing put to small spaces in the walls, pleasant Chinese paintings. Service is quick and precise, and there is no delay between dishes, feedback on the food is constantly requested. Spirits are also presented very well.
Very Poor Service
Speciality Restaurants ever since they went public had moved their focus from hospitality and ambience to just turnover and revenue. I'm surprised to see the way they operated 3 years back when I had a very pleasant experience from food, hospitality to ambience is all gone now. I find Mainland China too is very bad when I was served dry momos as starters and nothing else was served until I had to ask them for soup and other starters, the food was not re-filled promptly and had to wait for long. I asked for a small cake to celebrate my wife's birthday but was served only ice cream with a candle. Very poor, heavily crowded and highly disappointed.
We Will Be Back!
After reading the reviews here, my husband and I went to try this place tonight and all I can say is, Wow! Great food and wonderful service. The dumplings are not to be missed. The only real disappointment was the rice. I understand that we are in the home of Basmati rice, but could we please get some real Chinese steamed rice?
The Very Best Mainland China
I again endorse mainland China for their unimaginable consistency of food quality and services. They are so courteous. I even know the name of the persons who are serving you. I have been in various categories of restaurants and international hotels. I believe that a lot of restaurants can learn the basics of customer service from MC. This is my last day in Chennai. My fond memories of MC will be with me. As if they are from old days when in marriage functions, people were repeatedly asked to try more items(It is in Buffet, not a la carte). Just stand out......
Viva Main land China..
An attempt to be authentic
Although there are plenty of Chinese restaurants around, not many are really that authentic. This place though at least tried to be. Their buffets are very competitively priced and is usually packed on weekends. The buffet spread and quality used to be really good a couple of years back. Now the rates have increased but there is not much improvement with respect to the food.
The buffet has the regular fare Rice, Noodles etc. But my personal favorites are the Dimsums served in the basket, the crackling spinach, the fried corn. Most of the starters are actually good. The main course has two sides one of chicken and fish mostly. They are just about average. The desserts also need improvements though. Worth a try.
As close to chinese as it can get
Mainland china is one of the very few authentic chinese restaurants in town as compared to other restos claiming to have "chinese" food in the form of noodles :)
Their service levels are always top notch and if you're a big fan of chinese food, you're gonna love this one
must try include chinese tea, baby corn starter, dimsum and potato fried starters
Its definitely expensive though it limits the crowd and maintain its standard by that way, though very economical with their 450rs buffet
perfect place for a anniversary dinner or a team outing
Chinese heaven !
This is for the MC at Nungambakkam.
It is not a stand alone resto, but one inside Hotel Tulip, Aruna Complex.
I have gone in for the non veg buffet several times.
The dim sums were delicious here and are served from a momo bamboo basket, still piping hot.
There are some excellent starters, all were excellent and one is spoilt for choice.
The main course had Hakka noodles, fish, chicken and prawns.
I feel they offer better service than some 7 star places.
Just great service, really !
Delicious deserts to top it all.
Wow ! 5 on 5 !
Chinese Non veg Buffet
I like Chinese food and I also like Buffet.
Non veg buffet of MC is simply outstanding. Especially, MOMOS!!!!
In main course, you will be spoilt for choices with Lamb, Fish, prawn, chickens.....
Prepare yourself (Intake capacity)before you land up there....
Best Chinese Buffet. A value for money(Rs.505/- with tax)
Keep it up Mainland China.
Mainland China is one of the best Chinese cusine franchises in India. The entire experience of the decor, and the staff with the light music in the background is worth experiencing. The food itself is really good, starting with the DimSums, all the way to the main course.
The Buffet here is something else.Priced at around 500 Rs(i went there for a treat), its rather Value for Money. The starters keep coming, with prompt service. These are really, by themselves, quite a meal. The veg starters are almost as good as the non veg ones, although the variety in th veg ones could have been better. The main course itself is rather delicious and tempting, that is if one hasnt overeaten the starters. Go for the crab in red sauce, its taste lingered in my mouth for a long time! Finally, we come to the desserts and the ice cream counter. Here again, most people are stuffed upto their ears by this point, but the desserts themselves are soft, light on the palette and wonderfully prepared. Overall, the Buffet is out of the world! Totally worth it!
Just wrote a review a couple of weeks back on the poor food and service offered by MLC on their guest book (http://www.speciality.co.in/index.php/guest-book/).
It was pending for approval for a while and now its no more there, they delete all the negative feedback and keep the good ones. Very good way to cover up their flaws.
This is one of my favourite places for Chinese food. The buffet is good value for money. U get a welcome drink, a soup, an assortment of starters and a decent spread of main course and desserts. The signature dish here for vegetarians is, of course, the crackling spinach and corn. It is divine. Besides, the soft noodles, dim sums, dumplings, chilli potato, and the desserts like darsaan are very tasty too.
Best chinese i have has in chennai
Let me review their lunch buffet.
The buffet is very reasonably priced at ariund 400 for non-veg. For the money you pay, you get:
2 Soups (1 Veg and 1 Non- Veg)
6 Starters (4 Veg and 2 Non - Veg)
Main course spread ( 1 variety of noodles, 1 variety of rice, 2 to 3 varieties of side dish for veg and non-veg separately)
Salad (veg and non-veg)
Fruits ( 2 types)
Desserts (5 types which includes Darsaan, Pudding, Mousse, 3 flavors of ice cream, and chocolate wonton)
The service, ambiance and taste is good. I recommend you try it.
When you want to choose for a Chinese food then Mainland China is the destination.
Firstly to start with their service. Unlimited welcome drinks and trust me i have not experience in having unlimited welcome drinks. Next, is the starters which is of wide variety. We all enjoyed having the lunch here with the starter package itself as it was too good to have.
Ofcourse, you can love enjoying the main course by having the sea foods which is of great preparation as well. Great place to be in finally :)
If its chinese, its MLC
Completely go by what i've written in the title. Havent had better Veg chinese food in chennai other than at MLC. Have tried many places but this place is the best. Have been to this place many times, the signature dishes are corn fritters, chilli garlic potato and crispy spinach for starters. Chilli garlic noodles/hakka noodles veg, schzwan fried rice, corn & potato/veg dumplings with gravy for side dish.. This is my standard order whenever i go here. And im ready to go anytime here :)
Service is a bit slow on weekends but the food makes up for it everytime.
Overall a 4/5
Buffet Galore !
I've had both a-la-carte and buffet here. I would recommend the buffet lunch above the other dining option. The a-la-carte menu is really expensive and you better ensure you order regular water unless you want a heart attack on seeing the bill. That said, the regular and extensive lunch buffet is awesome here. the staff are quick to serve up the soup and appetizers. There are several veg and non veg options and the lunch main spread is extensive as well. Great desert spread and overall a notch above other Chinese restaurants in singara chennai. go for it!
For 4 years I've had a lunch buffet in MLC Chennai, it was in 2008 my wife and I for the first time had a wonderful time enjoying the ambience, hospitality and the quality to the food offered in this beautiful place that we lost our hearts instantly. On 29th Sep 2012 we decided to have lunch to celebrate my wifes birthday and in no doubt landed up in MLC. We were surprised by the huge crowd over the weekend in this restaurant which was once so spacious! MLC had truly captured many hearts I guess. We were offered a not so comfortable three seat table as one of my friend was expected to join us lately. Since we chose a buffet the starters were served along with the soup, I found the momos dry and cold which was something unusual and informed the person who later brought me some more but they were dry too. The veg. starters were a bit oily and didnt have the delicacy it used to offer as before. My friend joined us a bit late and we were on our main course, the soup was offered to him but had to wait for the starters, I had to call the person serving us to get some starters for him but it came to our table when my friend was on his main course. The main course was good but not satisfactory as before and we didnt go for another round. The deserts were good as usual and since it was my wifes birthday I asked for a cake just the way I did last year and was offered the desert with vanilla ice cream as a topping and this time there was no singing or the guitar, it was yet another dish that was served on our table though it was once celebrated. I asked for the china tea as I enjoy having after buffet but was offered the bill instead; a bit disappointed I gave a comment that the quality had been compromised. MLC had grown immensely in the last 3 years and there are more new customers who dont know how this restaurant used to be before. The real icing took place when I asked for my car and found it with bird droppings all over, when I enquired I was told that there are birds all over and nothing could be done. Annoyed I asked them to clean it up as Im not gonna take the vehicle and the service person just cleaned the front mirror and said he wont clean anymore, I went to the manager and got a reply that valet parking is just a facility and nothing could be done for the bird droppings and he mockingly said I cant prevent all the birds from sitting on or above your car. He also said that I cant clean the car as this is not a service centre and turned around walking, I said I will have to give a review and he said you can do whatever you wish.
May be my expectations are high, I wouldnt have expected it from a normal restaurant like Hotel Saravana Bhavan (HSB) but for a restaurant that offered so much and with such good reviews its disappointing that hospitality had gone down badly.
Why cant car cleaning be a Value Added Service (VAS)? A customer would be more than delighted to see his car get clean when he is out of the restaurant or if cleaning every car is a tough job atleast ensure that you hand it back the same way the customer gave it. Anyways that day will be my last visit to any place part of Speciality Restaurants.
LUNCH AT MAINLAND CHINA
Lunch at Mainland China can be enlightening. For example, it teaches you
that chestnuts can be more than just animal fodder, and that a delicious dish
called Lettuce wraps with sautéed water chestnuts, corn and mushroom can
be made from them. And that their crunch and mild nuttiness combined with the
succulent corn and the tender mushrooms can quite change your life forever.
By forever, I meant, until you dig into their dimsums and savour the textures- of
the soft white skin that tears and gives in to the layers of vegetable tossed lightly
in sauces. If you are not yet in seventh heaven, or could try to scamper up to the
eighth, order their Darsaan (or the honey noodles with almond flakes and ice
cream). It is a kooky dish, really and unlike other genius, needs its recognition in
And just in case you have still not attained nirvana, try eating all of the above
with a pair of chopsticks. The experience of even popping in a single mushroom
piece successfully would get you there.
Average meal for two: Buffet: Around 1000. A la carte: Around 1500-2000.
Mainland China - Karapakkam,OMR
As my title says, this review is on the Mainland China in OMR, because it is not listed, I chose to write about it under this one.
Went there a week ago for dinner on a weekday and it was surprisingly empty, excellent warm ambience, beautiful interiors, lovely spread of menu and fantastic service. I should commend the waiter for his impressive service.
Serving suggestions by the waiter was good and we tried out their speciality dishes, a corn n chilly pepper starter, garlic fried rice and a dumpling main course vegetable. All the dishes were tasty and prepared the authentic way. Their speciality dessert, orange creme brulee was unavailable, so we tried the coconut caramel custard, which was also a nice sweet dish, but it was a bit difficult to complete after a heavy meal.
It is priced on the higher side, however it is worth the visit at least once and definitively would be a treat for chinese cuisine lovers.
Keep up the good work, Mainland China team :)
first time felt not so nice
i have been a terrific fan of this place and my family too loves going over here again and again. but last week we were disappointed that the standards were not upto the mark. first the service was a lot laidback, then the mixed up the soup and egged us on to try the one they had made - didnt like it a bit, their crispy corn which is one of their signature dish was absolutely not like earlier times. we jus made a qwik eat of whatever we ordered and didnt even go for additional ones or desserts. left as qwikly possible. was very unlike them. hope it was a one time episode

Authentic chinese food
Tried the buffet in Mainland China. It was good and it is a must try for all the chinese food lovers.....The ambiance was good but felt a little bit cramped...I must surely mention about their service which was really good and quick....Overall the dining experience was good....
Authentic Chinese food but lacking in ambience
Probably one of the few restaurants in the city serving good authentic Chinese food. However the ambiance leaves much to be desired. The tables are arranged in what seems like a large dinning area with closely placed tables with no partitions. It gets very noisy during busy hours since the walls echo quite a bit. A little alcohol could help alleviate these little inconveniences but they don't have a lisence yet.
Bottom-line, Best Chinese food in town if you can overlook the other factors.
Not worth remembering!
My Mom and me went there today ie 12.02.2012 and opted for the buffet and it started out well. We were first served a Mock-tail and starters at the table. Then I found a Hair in my starter. In the babycorn and mushroom starter to be precise. When we informed the staff about the hair in the food they were adamant that there can't be hair in the food and looked at me like I was trying to deface them for some personal vendetta. Then when they saw the hair they immediately took the plate and many of them huddled around it staring at it. I was given a new plate and more fresh starters.
But somehow finding the hair in the food put me off, especially since the starter was served directly from the kitchen unlike the main course that was lined along the wall.
It was the first time I was at the Mainland China restaurant in Chennai. Have been to the ones in Baroda and Mumbai (SakiNaka), but was really disappointed with the attitude.
Not sure I will be visiting it again anytime soon. My Mom declares she will never set foot there.

Very good service ordinary main course
Went for lunch today(3rd feb). Very good service right from the seating till cheque payment. No variety or options for vegetarians. Desert is poor.
Debotosh Roy restaurant manager met me after my written feedback. He informed me that the menu will be revamped soon. Will surely go again just for the service.

Awesome ambience - Great starters
Been here once for lunch buffet. the ambience was comparatively calm on a Saturday. The soup was served on table, which was hot and tasty. I liked the starters very much, especially their chinese veg wonton and veg momo. The dessert was good too, liked their mango wonton. Though the varieties for vegetarian main courses was less, it was compensated by a comparatively wider range of non-veg courses, which my partner had.
Price - 3/5
Ambience - 4/5
Food Quality - 4.5/5
Service - 5/5
exellent taste and sevice
i went here along with my friends and after searching so many varieties in menu we go with buffet. we tasted all foods really i was exited with taste and service offered .
it tastes more than any Chinese restaurant in Chennai but the cost was little expensive.
As starters and main course is concerned which really good and tasty but they can improve the varieties in dessert .the choice is less. can improve no. of fruits ,salads, etc
The Expensive Exemplary :)
I Visited this place with my family a couple of weeks before and would say that the food i tasted here was a rewarding experience in itself. Most varieties of the Chinese Food at this place were absolutely fresh, steamed and with zero oil. The service and staff was outstanding and the very best.
Singapore Chilly Fried Prawns- Awesome.
Chicken Soft Noodle Fried Rice- Awesome
Honey Noodle with Ice cream - Awesome
1. Dim sum Prawns: didn't match my expectations and seemed to be out of order.
2.Expensive : The food is very expensive and the prices which i certainly needs to be trimmed a way bit down to attract more folks to this place.
not real Chinese
Went with lots of expectations with 3 of my friends.
But this place serves pretty ordinary Chinese foods that we get in a local Fast Food Restaurant.
Too expensive and not that real Chinese.
Wangs litchen is even better than Mainland China.

i have been here so many times and i know for a fact that it is the undisputed king of chinese food. i know it leaves a hole in ur pocket but if u want the best u have to be able to afford it. the nungambakam branch is gud but they keep on changing the chef. one suggestion keep 1 chef for a solid 2 yrs. the new branch is nice but quite weird. that is all i hav to say. mainland china. keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leaves a hole in your pocket , this place
I was in Mainland China for the new year , the food and the quality was okay given i was in the buffet , but still the starters lacked variety , especially the vegetarians , there were just 3 starters to my knowledge that was served. The main course was fine , and desserts with two flavor of ice creams with cut fruits were decent enough.
But the most shocking part was , the lunch buffet was charged a whopping 570 bucks , maybe this could have been a special price revision for the new year celebration , but the food served was not worth the price for sure.
The PF Chang's of Chennai
And I don't mean that in a bad way.
Instead of noshing on Chennai's fabled Indo-Chinese, here's Chinese I thought only existed in the US. Mainland China emulates PF Chang's quite well. Everything tasted good and the ambiance was very different than most Chennai restaurants - and very much like the aforementioned American mall staple.
Two things not to recommend: we ordered dim sum and it came out resembling ramen noodles (?). And, their sesame-crusted nuts (a 'dessert') were dry and bland.
One thing PF Chang's should emulate from Mainland China: lazy Susans at every table.
Perfect every single time
I have been to mainland china countless no of times in Bangalore and Chennai and it never dissapoints. The food is always amazing. the seafood spread that they have in their buffet is awesome and the ambiance is good. And Service specially at the sterling road branch is impeccable. Perfect every single time
I decided to give this place a try following rave reviews from friends during our holiday in Chennai. I live in the UK and the chinese food I am used to here are a far cry from the Indo Chinese back in India. As for the food well if I am honest I have had better. But what gives this place 5 stars is for the excellent service I was offered. I didnt have a clue on what to order and asked the waiter to suggest their best dish. I normally dont let others make my food choice but decided to take a punt. The dish (cant remember the name) was not to my palette and ended up leaving a lot on the plate. At the end of the meal when our plates were getting collected the waiter noticed I had left a huge portion behind and asked if I was unhappy with the meal. I am not the sort of person to be unkind as there was nothing wrong with the meal, just wasnt to my taste.
The waiter then quickly took the plate away and took time to ask what sort of dishes I normally ate. Despite of me saying I didnt want to eat anything else, the waiter went back in to the kitchen and came back with a dish that was simply delicious!
I havent come across many restaurants in India with that sort of service, and I have been to some good ones. The care taken by the waiter without being condescending was something that really impressed me.
So next time I make a trip to chennai, I shall defo visit this place and hope being served by the same gentleman.

Thank you so much for the review. Appreciation is the best form of motivation and that too in glowing terms has really made our day.
Total rip off service charge
My family and I went to Mainland China, Cenatoph Road for dinner. Although I have been to the one in Sterling road before, this was my first time here. The decor and the cozy environment instantly impressed
me and our party of 10. We started with soups and starters. Crispy corn, Jangs Chill Chicken, Sweet and Crispy Chicken were my favorite. For our main course we had Vegetables with Maluku Sauce Clay pot, Mixed Vegetable Chinese Parsley Gravy, Fried rice and Crispy Noodle. We were told one plate will be sufficient for 3 people, but it wasnt. Except clay pot everything else was normal. On the dessert side Sizzling brownie with hot chocolate sauce was ranked the best.
Almond waffle with cream was like crispy chips dipped in fresh cream, chocolate rolls was too sweet and as was date pancake. Also the date pancake was hard to peel. On the whole it was a disappointing meal. The wow factor of Mainland China was missing. On top of all this when the bill arrived there was a 10% service change on top of 2% VAT. Thats ridiculous !!! Its a total rip off and this charge is applied even for a group of 2. Looks like it was mentioned in a small corner of the menu. Its not a room service where you are charged a service charge. Its a restaurant and all these charges should be included in the menu.
If its Chinese - go elsewhere!
I went to mainland china last week with my wife and a few friends. They had a special offer for platinum card holders which at that point looked like an awesome deal. there was a soup of your choice, a series of 4 starters and 4 main course dishes which comprised of 2 non veg side dishes, 2 veg side dishes and 1 rice and 1 noodle and 2 deserts (i dont remember if it was 2 or 3)
the hitch is that it has to be a minimum of 4 people and you hvae to have a platinum card.
the deal is a good deal, but i was quite dissapointed with the quality of food presented. The soup was excellent, but after that everything was downhill. Yes, the crispy corn and the dimsums was still how i remembered it, but that was the star attraction. They served some fish starter in which the flavor had not reached the fish. The maincourse was pretty much the same. There were two veg dishes - which I can classify just that veg dishes - it was a hash of tasteless vegetables thrown into some gravy. I dont know what they were trying to serve- left overs or just all the excess greens that they had in the kitchen. I had half a mind to ask the staff if they thought we were cows - and looking for greens to graze on. I could not eat much of the main course as it was sub par to say the least. The chicken that they served was tasteless and almost the entire portion of the food went for a waste.
The only saving grace was the desert. My wife loves the chocholate spring roles and they did not fail to dissapoint this time either. I was trying the honey fried something with icecream and loved it.
I suspect the fish was a little spoilt as it tasted a little off- and i spent the rest of the night and early morning rushing to and from the rest room. Yes, i did get an upset stomach the next day, but i also got a bad case of indestion from the food. I dont know if I can pinpoint it to the fish or the overall food. But this time I was really disappointed with Mainland china.
So if its chinese you stay far away from mainland china and try some other place.

In due fairness I visited mainland china again on the 13th of September. As promised, they appear to have taken feedback seriously and the fish and other food was excellent. Kudos to the team.
The Best there is!
Mainland China is my ALL time Fav restaurant, Noone else can do Chinese food better than them! Absolutely love the ambience in all their outlets [not just Chennai], the food quality, quantity, everything. many people think its expensive, but its worth it!
So for people who haven't been to MC yet...I totally recommend it!
Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai
Mainland china seems to have mastered the art of engineering authenticity of Chinese food without upsetting the Indian taste buds.
This is my favorite and only place to visit if I ever crave for Chinese food. The buffet lunch here is a real deal and the a_la_carte is good too. Our favorites here are dimsums and all time favorite is "Darsaan with Vanilla Ice cream".
My fellow burpers have already had a lot to say and I dont need to add any more.
Leave your passports at home!!!
This is one of the few Chinese restaurants in Chennai that is truly authentic! Mainland China is the closest you can get to China without actually having to travel! The food is absolutely fantastic! Everything from the taste, the texture, the flavor and presentation is wonderful. The selection of soups, starters, main dishes and desserts make for a very mouth watering experience. I highly suggest going hungry so you can get a taste of everything they offer. Put down your forks because chopsticks make for an even better (and sometimes funny) Chinese experience! The soups are very flavorful and rich, the tofu starters were a perfect complement to the chicken and noodle based main dish I had. They are very accommodating especially when it comes to your level of spice requirement and any other specifications you might have. Though sharing dishes is a better option for those who don't have the best appetites as the portions are pretty large! It is a bit expensive, but worth every rupee! Who says we can't indulge every now and then! Bon appetite!
Nice and cozy dinner place
Visited this place with my wife on 03-dec-09. Nice and cozy place for dinner. Staff is polite and helpful.
Ordered Eight Treasure soup and Dim Sums for starters. Both were delicious. Then came CLay Pot Exotic vegetables and Lotus Leaf-wrapped Rice. Tasted great although portions could have been more. They can certainly increase the quantity and turn down the music a notch. Overall, a very good Chinese place considering that it is in Chennai.
Decent food, fairly quick service, extensive menu
If you're going on a weekend, call in and reserve a table or you will have to wait a while. It's quite a popular place and why not.
The food is pretty decent, the menu is extensive, so you would need to go back several times to really try a significant amount of dishes in there. Food is nice and fresh, the spicing rooted in subtlety.
Decently priced restaurant as well, would run up to about Rs. 500 per person. Drawback of the place is that it does not serve alcohol. I have heard the other branch in Nungambakkam does serve a tipple or two.
I'll certainly go back to explore the menu further, but I'll probably try out the other branch thanks to the drinks.
Good chinese fine dining place
Being near to my office, this place was difficult to miss. Was here with the team for an office party on 22-sep-09. Place is very good for chinese fine dining. On a non-weekend evening, this place was full. Fortunately, we had arrived early. I tried vegetarian but I heard non-veg was good too. No alcohol is served unlike Sterling Road one. Definitely worth trying.
CHINA IN CHENNAI
It was last year that i got to eat at this place when my BIL was in chennai from USA, since we had jus relocated from Bangalore and my BIL suggested this place for Dinner. Frankly i was a bit apprehensive initially about going to this place like any other chinese restaurant with standard soup, noodle, chowmien business. But this was indeed a different restaurant and in a different league. i was indeed impressed by the choice, authenticity, taste, ambience almost all the works. we had a wonderful time trying out the dimsums etc etc and my daugher loved the brownie.
So i guess i had found a real good restaurant and have made few more trips to this place and everytime i come back impressed although the prices do make a dent into the wallet.
Recently i took a business associate from US to this place for Lunch and this was also my trip during lunch and both of us were suitably impressed. he really liked the place and went back to happy.
thank u guys and girls at mainland china, do keep up the good work

A must try for chinese food lovers
I been here many times, found the ambience typical oriental with chinese lanterns hanging , decor of the place rocks. I also figured out that they do have Chinese (or so do they look like) chefs.... the food ordered was upto the mark, atleast in chennai standards, it was authentic chinese food ..i have had a bad experience in many other restaurants in Chennai which offer just tomato sauce with chinese food.. ever experienced this?? That is a put off, but for authentic chinese food try this place ,atleast they give proper accompaniments and sauces along with your meal, but be prepared to pay a high price for the meal.
A very impressive place, but has been extremely noisy of late ! The food is very impressive, their service prompt and courteous. Portions are large and well worth the tab. If you are looking for a quiet evening and some delicious food, the din of people talking around you might not entertain much.
If you are looking for a table on weekends, make sure you are there early or book a table. It can get really crowded..
Worth every penny
The perfect destination when it comes good Chinese food. The menu might be the same everywhere but it is done tastefully. The dim sums are exquisite. The appetizers are very appealing and the spread is great. There are a number of options for vegetarians as well. The best being crispy chilli corn, crispy fried vegetable in konjeenaro style and Tai Pei cauliflower. Crackling spinach without doubt is superb. Non-vegetarians have to try spicy prawns in Hunan style, barbeque fish and chicken drumstick. The soups are great too. The eight treasure vegetable soup and peppery lemon soup are like the chef's special. The main course variety is large. Chicken schzewan noodles, clay pot fried rice and fried rice in lotus leaf is out of the world. It goes best with spicy chicken in XO sauce or exotic Chinese vegetables in chilli sesame sauce. The deserts and the mocktails are pretty much the same in all Chinese restaurants but the Darsaan in Mainland china is amazing. The price may seem to be on the higher side but it is worth every penny. The service is great and the waiters are patient and friendly. The Maitre-Ds make you feel at home. Mainland China is a place you shouldn't miss.
Quality is the same everywhere
The best thing about Mainland China is
1. The menu is almost same in every city
2. The serving and the taste is also same across the city
3. The result is, you know what you ordered and what is going to be served.
Among the different MainLand I visited, those are Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai and the Chennai one; among them I think Chennai is the most affordable.
Though one burrper mentioned about the high-price, I would request to compare with the price you pay for the Sakinaka Mainland China...it's damn cheap.
In Chennai, you compare with Cascade...you will agree MLC is just value for money with a decent ambiance.
The food is excellent; though it's not Chinese (this comment is made after my visit to China and after tasting at least 300 odd Chinese foods).
Nothing to remember except the check
Just another Chinese place with $$$ priced menu card. The cocktails are great and strong. But be ready to be in for a shock in the end when the check arrives. If you wanna eat the usual Chinese i would rather advice you to go to Noodle House or Wang's kitchen, but if you wanna impress your date, Main Land China could be the choice. The place is quite crowded
great chinese food
Always a pleasant experience if you can ignore the parking hazzels. Book your table in advance. There can be wait, even tho' the place is huge.
Here is some of the review on the food from my blog....
"I am not so sure where to start. The starters, cripy spinach and fried corn are my favourites. There is of course the usual spring rolls and drumsticks and the unusual. In the main course, the pick is really just about anything. I have tasted a few of the chicken and veg dishes, and each one is unique and tastes great. The noodles, is one of the best i have tasted. I usually dont like noodles, but this place i recently took some, and it was awesome. I need to try somemore, the next time.
But before i finish i must talk about daarsaan and date pancake, the desserts. Each of these with ice-cream is the reason to save some space at the end of the meal."
