Service is not their USP and food is average

Went here expecting a lot on their steaks and burgers.

The burgers are as plain regular, similar to what you would get for lest than half the cost at places like pupil in bessy.

The bun was a regular supermarket / bakery bun, patty was small for the price, lettuce, 2 slice tomato, mayo and overdose of mustard. Cost 200+. I could have made this at home.

The steak was chewy, which means either they flipped the steak too many times, or something about the conditions of the meat, like it may have been frozen that resulted int he steak being chewy.

Lemon ice tea was nice.

Service took the longest and was surprising considering there was only 1 other customer at the time.

The ambience and location of the place is nice, and I think if they focus on the way their food is cooked and ingredients they maybe able to do better.

Absolutely rubbish!

To begin with, I really have no idea what-so-ever why there are so many positive reviews about this place. Being the foodie that we are, my husband and I were very apprehensive to experience the rave that it has received from all the reviews here.
We arrived at the restaurant on Saturday night to find the it was not so busy. Yet, it took them 25 mins. to even acknowledge us. And when they did the man who served us could not comprehend anything that we were saying or asking although we tried both English and Tamil- as if we were speaking Greek! We ordered the sea food platter and the chicken pasta. Hoping that the food would reach our table within 30 mins at the most, it took them 50 mins. to bring our food. The quantity was shocking! On the platter there were 3 stale squid rings, 2 so called fish fingers, a dressing that tasted like Ranch and a fish fillet that looked like it was left over from someone's meal. The pasta was maybe half a serving and was dry, bland and literally inedible. VERY unsatisfied with our meal we pushed down what we could and received a bill for Rs 1020 for food that, quite honestly, should not even be classed as food! Ridiculous!
To top it off, when we place Rs.1050 in the bill wallet, the restaurant very conveniently decided to keep the Rs.30 change as a self claimed tip. We waited for 10mins to see if they'd returned it since we decided that they deserved nothing. Instead we were were just left waiting for 10mins. Appalled by their cheapness we decide to just leave.
To say the least, this is the worst experience we've encountered at an acclaimed restaurant.

2 Belgians in Chennai

In a quiet environment, on a good location, we were attended by a very friendly manager. He was gently helpful in explaining – with passion-the different items on the menu, it made us feel very comfortable. The menu has good variation ,so for everyone there’s something special.
Being seated in a cosy place, the modern interior with warm color combinations and unique stylish wall decoration ,we were served by attend full waiters. The waiting time was kept at a minimum, and the food was perfect regarding taste and presentation. Along with the starters came a very nice dip sauce ,with a wink to the French cuisine. The fish( Basa filet) , crunchy outside and tender and moist inside was cooked to perfection. The steak on a sizzling plate was well seasoned, the veggies were al dente as they should be.
The choice of the dessert took some time, because all were so promising. We decided to take mud pie with ice and chocolate sauce, and the fruit-flambé. It topped our evening.
Delicious, we’ll surely come back!

A wonderful Evening to remember

A few days back for dinner we went to Restaurant Mash in Nungambakkam. We stay in Anna Nagar and one hour drive was just worth it every minute and every cent spent.

These are my following reasons

1 Location The restaurant is placed a little off the road and is kind of very quiet environment, compared to the ever cluttered Kadhar Navas Khan Road.

2 Beautiful Ambiance. Deep orange walls, cozy tables and the music they play is out of the world. All i missed was a glass of beer

3 Menu. A very good collection of Pastas, S/Ws, Burgers and KICK ASS steaks!!
They also serve a bit a of Indian and Chinese food though.

4 Music The best, handpicked selection. The 3 and half hours we were there, we listened to some of the best songs some nice hip-hop, rock and music is balanced that its breaking the monotony like rest of the restaurants.

5 Staffs’ A very pleasing and friendly manager brought us in, gave us comfortable seats and also gave us his visiting card and was very friendly and helpful. He shared with us some many facts and knowledge about food and alcohol. often we see stiff old man in a restaurant as a manager with attitude up his neck, but the guy was differ and flamboyant. His charisma was what made us feel so special. We were attended by a semi English speaking waiter who was also very good at his work.

6 The best part. Amazing food!! everything we ordered for was amazing. The we ordered for 2 steaks and 2 starters one dessert and 2 Bar Man Special Mocktail. The bar man special was specially made by the manager and was amazing. I will never forget this restaurant or its service or its food!! Good show Mash.

Not at all satisfied

I visited this place for the second time, the first time being 10 days after its grand opening. This time we visited on Friday night 9 PM(Aug 10),absolutly empty the ambience was just neat(Except for no water in the taps of the wash basin and very very loud radio or whatever was playing).
The menu has a lot of tandoori items however when ordered for indian breads , the guys who was supposed the owner or supervisor retorted back stating that this is not an indian restaurant, then why have it on the damn menu ?????
Food was not that great or even close to what it served the first time around.I will avoid it - Hope you do too!!!!

Wholesome meals

Have been here three times. Two times in the last two weeks alone. They have a revamped menu now and the food is very satisfying. The staff is great and the ambience is super for casual dining. Great if you are getting together with a couple of friends don't want to fuss over what to order.
The menu is nicely balanced and there is something for everyone.

Mediocrity at its best!

After hearing a lot of nice things we decided to check out Mash at Nungambakkam over dinner on a Friday night. We started out fairly early, just to make sure it wasnt crowded and were seated promptly. There were 4 of us, two vegetarians and two non-vegetarians. We ordered the seafood chowder soup and cream of vegetable soup and did not get our soups in a timely manner ( but this isnt really the problem). The waiter clearly told that this was the vegetarian soup and served the seafood soup to the lady who was a hardcore vegetarian ( and heavily pregnant), but this time she was completely put off and repulsed by it since she had a spoonful only to find out that it did not smell right. I immediately called the guy and asked them to explain how he managed to clearly state that it was veg soup and served it incorrectly. I was just offered an apology and that he was a new joinee. So we still decided to overlook that error and continue with the evening. the soup by the way, was a lukewark, bland concoction, i mean no effort had been taken to jazz it up. It clearly reflected in a below average quality of the soup. ugh!
we ordered a sizzling panner entree and it came to our table with no sizzle, when asked the waiter's response was - oh, you want is sizzling. We also ordered the pasta mornay and baked fish gratin. The food was really tasteless and it was prepared in such a fashion that makes you wonder that you can really come up with a much much better version when you cook these at home.
Well really the kicker was what we ordered for dessert, we ordered the "Nut'ella" pancake and got something with no nutella in it and the owner came and explained that it was a play on words and its supposed to be "Not'ella," and that itw as merely a typo in the menu card - i cannot buy that, the waiter should have clearly stated that when we placed the order. My wife heavily pregnant wife was craving a nutella pancake and she was mislead and even the pancake was quite pathetic.

the only reason I have giving this place 3 stars adn an average rating was when we got the owner to our table and explained to him the lack of service and the poor quality and zero coordination between his waiters - he actually bothered to listen and was apologetic and offered a logical explanation stating that they were short staffed and that he was there physically to help them run the place that evening. He did not take offense at my complain and that to me was a big deal. Because he clearly knew that something was missing. I am willing to give this place another attempt just because of that. But I will be going in with mighty high expectation.

Don't even try this place!

Having been a regular at Mash, Besant Nagar, I didn't think twice before deciding on having Lunch at The Grill House last Sunday. Unfortunately, that was a big disaster!

First, the menu's got nothing grilled (at least not the vegetarian part) and I really had to search for the limited vegetarian items on the menu. Ordered the soup and that was just OK. After that came the starters which were just pathetic. The main course was a big disaster, so big that I decided to tell the manager what I felt. Since the manager wasn't around, the Head Chef came over, apologized and said that he'd waive off the bill. I was quite surprised to hear that and quite happy too. Then I get the shock of my life, I am presented with a bill of about Rs. 1700 with 2 items off the menu. Since I didn't want to hang around any further, I just paid up and left.

I wouldn't go here for two reasons

1. The food sucks

2. It's not worth paying so much and still end up being hungry.
