Good Food, Fast Service and Great Price

Shree Mithai is one place I take my family for a quick bite and when I don't feel like spending too much. The place is big, has good parking space, decent valets, the place is divided into 3 floors. The first floor is for sweets, cakes and light snacks, the second is for chats, light bites and lunch and dinner and the third floor is for fine dining. The sweets and the chats are one of the best in the city and in south India. Most of the workers including the service staff are from the north so English or Tamil is out of bounds for most of them but ordering food is not an issue in the first 2 floors as we have to order our food at the cash counter where the staff speaks English and Tamil.

Worst Place to go with Family and Friends

Worst place to go with family and friends.. You will not have a place to sit and you will not get a decent service from the north Indian waiters.. You have to roam around with a plate in hand with no place to sit and most of the tables would be occupied.. You will feel alienated in your own land..

Shree Mithai Divine

Was shopping in AnnaNagar with my cousin, when the hunger pangs struck us very badly. Both of us could not wait to head back home for dinner, hence went in for an early Dinner at Shree Mithai Divine in Shanthi Colony. Shree Mithai has three levels here, first level is the sweet shop, second level is the self service restaurant which serves South Indian, North Indian and Chinese cuisines along with Chaat counters. Third level is the dine in restaurant, that serves North Indian and Continental cuisines.

We headed to the dine in area, as both of us were tired to wait at a self service counter. There were about two other customers and the place was pretty empty. We got ourselves comfortable seating which was overlooking the street down.

Now on the the food part of Shree Mithai. We had ordered for Veg clear soup and Veg Corn soup. Was so hungry that forgot to click pictures of the soups.
Vegetable Briyani was very tasty and was cooked to the right consistency.
Paneer Butter Masala and Butter Naan were perfect.
We had ordered stuffed Kulcha, but it was burnt and hence had to return it.
Gobi Manchurian was more Indian than being Indo Chinese
Deserts were sinful to the core. That each of the dish was completely polished off till the last bit.
The food was very tasty and Ambience was good. It was nice to overlook the road and have dinner.
The waiters were very courteous and attentive. And the burnt Kulcha did not feature in our bill. I feel that was a good gesture.

Best Kesar Burfi,Softest & best Dhokla in the city

This outlet is right at the center of the Shanthi Colony Road. First floor for the sweets and quick eats. Has a good lift service :) Nice place to hang out with family. Spacious.

Awesome delicacies, service and even price :)

Must try - my favorites and recommendations:

1. Kesar Burfi - this is uniquely theirs :) two layered burfi - a bottom white kova layer topped up by a kesar (saffron) flavored milk kova layer. Its a milk sweet with limited shelf life therefore. Its mildly sweet but has an awesome flavor to it. Very value for money pricing (if I am right, you get about 8-9 small pieces for Rs.140/-). If you are taking away, refrigerate immediately.

2. Dhokla - the softest, flavorsome, most succulent Dhoklas in Chennai. Wonder what their ingredients are - its steamer fresh. soft and melts in your mouth. served with two chutneys. very value for money pricing. you can eat a plate full for under Rs.50/- :) warning: highly addictive. I actually develop their dhokla cravings often and get there just for this. You have to get there before 7.30 pm else the day's dhokla stock is over as many have by then devoured it :)

3. kachori: they serve authentic north Indian kachori. a favorite with my family.

Ample car parking. Service is good. Pricing is by and large value for money (even the expensive sweets are actually worth it - they have a very extensive cashew and pista range). A range of typical North Indian namkeen (savoury items). Ambience is clean, air-conditioned, spacious and nice - no music etc. though. nice place to go to. try it :)

Great Neighbourhood Place

For those of you who worry that I never praise any restaurant ,here I have good news.
Finally, I found a place which I cant stop raving about.

Shree Mittai @ shanti colony
It is a 3 story building -
first floor true to their name has mouthwatering display of sweets
& 3rd floor has dine-in which has great ambience but the food sucks & the cost is also very high
2nd floor has this amazing food court which is also truly multi cusine.
They have simple pay & order token system & very reasonable rates.

Each time u visit u can taste something continent-ally different from the previous ones.I didn't finish completely tasting their menu. From the food I got to eat I find these rated in the following order.

Amazing Lasagna,Baked cheese macaroni,Italian dishes & Sandwiches
Irresistible chats especially Pani puri & Chole Batura
Good Dosa's,Mocktails
Decent NorthIndian Paratha's & Thali, but
Bad Chinese & SouthIndianThali .

Not so great!

Went there with friends sometime back. They serve decent food but for the same amount I can get exceptional food elsewhere. Shree Mithai is heavenly for sweets and snacks but for main course food, blah! I would rather not comment upon their presentation and customer reception as well.

All in all, I would rather stay indifferent about this place.

suggestion

I suggest you to open your unique veg. restaurant in Ram Nagar, Madipakkam where there is not even a single sweets& veg. restaurant of quality. Its near to MRTS/Monorail./A big bus stand on the lines of koyambedu is all coming. Hence, you can think of opening a branch hotel from areas like Ram Nagar/kaiveli/pallikaranai/Vijay nagar near MRTS/ opposite to proposed Bus stand .your uniqueness is awesome. Moreover your quality food is good for people

Not upto expectations

Though it's a good place for North Indian dishes its still missing something. Tried the lunch and the self service counters, the food is good but not a delicacy. A bit highly priced, we had the water they served and my wife and kid got cold the same evening.

A piece of North India

Shree Mithai is a lot of things, but being without a crowd is not one of them. This place is absolutely full of people all the time. The chat that I've eaten here and at the Chetpet branch is lip-smackingly amazing! Coming to my favourite dish out here: the chole bhature! This is unquestionably one of the best I've eaten in all of Chennai. The chole has just the right amount of spiciness. And although the bhaturas might not be all that health-friendly, it's one of those guilty pleasures at the end of a bad day that I just need to have!

Most Authenticate Bengali Sweet Shop in Chennai

Shree Mithai is the most authentic sweet shop in Chennai - Love their Raj Bhog, Kaju Katli & Gulab Jamun.

This new Shri Mithai at Shanti Colony really made me feel good. It reminded me of Bikanerwala in Delhi. Neat Ambiance & decor was pleasing. I was there during Raksha bandhan and loved the way they had decorated Mithai Boxes. Some of them had complimentary "rakhis" and made my experience of buying sweets for the occasion memorable.

One should try their Paneer Pakoda, Dhokla and Samosa. I was not very happy with Chola Bhatura (far from Authentic) and Vada Pav (nothing close to what we get in Mumbai).

Service is not so good/pleasant - the cashier will indifferently pass on the change, you have to ensure your order is in Queue..

Average Fast Food Place

This place feels like a con in sheep's clothing. When you enter Shree Mithai, you think you might get a decent restaurant experience, but not so! The decor is all plastic and the waiters are pretty gruff with the customers, speeding them on instead of waiting for them to make a decision. The service was also slightly clumsy (a waiter smacked my friend's hand with a bowl of biriyani). The food is good, but on the second floor it feels like an Indian McDonald's, and I hate McDonald's. The Chola Batura was so greasy I felt nauseous after eating it. Best to avoid this place and drive on if your stomach can help it...

Poor Service

Food is just below average, over rated, over jealous venture. Quality of food is not good, atmosphere is good. Average taste, they better stay away from serving south indian food. Overall the people are not interested in serving the customers, they care a damn about if you are happy or not.

Chat items are their foothold, else the place is just junk!
Do not spoil your precious occassion if you plan to spend it here! Get some place else!!

Go for the Chaats and North indian dishes

They have a unique menu for service, particularly with the chaat items they come up with. Never seen those anywhere else. Yea, tasty too and you easily find a place all the time. LoL

its good..... but...

its a good place..... good spread of items... but somehow due to too many dishes being available, none is up to the mark.. i mean if u wanted dosas alone, there are better places... same for north-indian and chinese.. but if you want all under one roof - then you come to this place...

Its like christmas, errr i mean diwali!

A building full of goodies...a floor full of sweets and another full of chaat and other snacks, yay! i felt like a kid inside a candy store.. oh well sweet store... even for a person like me who's not much into the sweet part of it, its a bit overwhelming and overjoying to see so much sweet at one floor..its like its diwali all thro the year here!

I ve felt this celebration urge at Bikarnervala in Delhi, altho this place aint that happening yet, it sure is a good try and such places shud catch up in Chennai a lot more..so you walk into the mouth-watering building and there is so much crowd that you almost know that u cant have it as soon as u see it, just keep droolin until ur turn arrives, its self-service and thats bugging, but i guess theres no other choice in such places.

So the food court type of arrangement is a given, tho a 'good' service would ve added up to the show and made one give it all 5 stars. The sweets are authentic North Indian, all Kaju and Ghee high and expensive too, but totally worth it. They have gift packs which sure will tempt you to gift yourself with one of 'em!

Coming to the food, its usually a let down when there is so much hype, but this was good enough, they ve lotsa chaat and snacks, they even have pizzas, but of course, we tried the bhel/pani puri, chole batura, badam milk, etc. It wasnt anything out of the world to remember anything distinct other than the experience itself, but definitely worth it, i think its much better than the overrated Gangothri and they shud soon open such a place in the heart of the city!

Amazing Authentic Chaat Items

Went here yesterday , traveled all the way from Velachery to Anna Nagar just to try their chaat(after reading reviews here). Very very nice chat items ..I was okay with the Vada Pav but yeah nothing beats the mumbai taste. The Aloo tikki was real nice ..just like we get it in Delhi ..perfect chutneys simply loved it. The car parking is well organised and the place is easy to find ...!!

not sure will go there again, the food is good but the traffic to get till Anna nagar is horrible !!

Haldiram of Chennai

After hearing from a friend about lot of options available in Shanthi colony, Anna Nagar; I decided to give this place a try.

This is probably one of the largest building in the near vicinity and has got three floors for different foodies i.e. Chat-Chatore, Self-Help-Group, Restaurant-Dinners.

The Food is Awesome and Quantity is Great and everything within a Budget of Rs. 100 - 150 per person.

Believe you me, You can try out their Spl Thali OR 5 different chat items in the given Budget.

best oilly foodcourt at annanagar

been there a lot of time and their most of their varities but found to be very oily that i was not able to eat my full plate. it will be nice if they reduce the oil useage in all of their dishes as it will taste good and also will be good for health. apart from that they are ok.

All in All Eatravaganza

I always like places that let me have a meal that comprises
1. Pani Poori
2. French Fries
3. Lasagna
4. Chole Bhature
5. Ice-cream
And such an eclectic mix is possible only at a place like Shree Mithai, where dinner personalization is taken to its logical extreme. The next time I go there, I am going to insist on pasta inside Pani Poori, and I'm sure they will oblige.

Nice food (although only vegetarian), and a truly varied, self-service menu. The sort of place one can visit many times and eat something radically different every time.

My only grouse (as of writing this review) - No tea and coffee.

Best North Indian Chat Items

I visited Shree Mithai Food Court recently along with my family. The Hotel is in the 4h Avenue, Anna Nagar. The Hotel seems to be recently constructed. On the first floor the sweet shop is there and on the second floor he food court is there. The restaurant is coming up in the Third Floor shortly. Since this is a food court we need to pay in advance and take the food. Since it was a sunday the Hotel staffs helpmed in getting the items.

We ordered the "Special Chole Bhature", Delhi Chat, Veg Pulav, Pav Bhaji, Mocktail Blue Lagoon and Kesar Badam Milk. All the items were were very delicious.

All chat items like Vada Pav, Bread Pokada, Dhokla Idli,
Khandvi, Paneer pakoda, Bhakkarwardi etc., are available.

I strongly recommend to try this out.

Regards, Anand Vasudevan
