Team Lunch at Tangerine
We had loved the Tangerine near Valasaravakam and my team being great eaters suggested we go to Tangerine again. So we tried out the Alwarpet center. The buffet menu was a great spread including 2 starters, Chinese soups, paratas and rice items. Enough to fill big eaters as us. Thank you Tangerine for sending us with happy tummies.
Pleasant And Impressive.
Tangerine is one of the best places for beef. We used to get Bangalore beef here. Its more yummy. Service is good, not a problem. Place is small and calm. Can improve on their quantity of starters for the rate they offer. Otherwise best place where you can just drop in and start hogging :D
I tried to give Tangerine yet another visit to see if anything has changed and if they have improved in any areas
The ambience , service remains the same and really good.
Its a perfect place for a dinner date in the city, though very expensive on the wallet . It's tucked under a calm street in Alwarpet and location is a 5/5 , however the car parking always seems to be a problem, especially parking in the main road . The food (sizzlers) is good , though they can cut down a little bit on the prices , as its still expensive, despite being a premium restaurant.
Had never been to this place until a friend invited me for dinner. Its a small and cosy setting inside with quite amazing food.
We ordered for a coriander based soup which was yummy. We then had some kind of cutlets which came with a dip. The dip was so awesome that we ordered another portion of it. The main course was sizzlers and they were awesome. The best part of the sizzler was the well cooked meat. Wanted to try out the dessert but ran outta space in the stomach!
The service is decent. Can definitely improve on that front.
Overall a 4/5 experience!
This is their oldest outlet, located along Murrays Gate Road.
They're well known for their steaks and sizzlers.
Of late there has been a lot of competition in this segment with new entrants and Tangerine needs to buck up.
During my visit, the steak in pepper sauce was wow.
Dishes are a bit expensive, they also serve pastas.
Two more suggestions to go in for are oyster sauce chicken sizzler and the mixed grill which is for meat lovers.
Also, simple ambiance and noisy crowds at times.
A expensive dinner date
Tangerine can be the perfect place for u if ur intent in avoiding the huge bustling crowd and queues everywhere and want to have some quality dinner time with your date . They serve some excellent sizzlers and great desserts
Its however slightly pricey and dinner for 2 can easily come upto 1000
The only disadvantage is that it doesnt have a proper parking space and u may have to park in the main roads which could be a problem sometimes
however on the whole you get a decent dinner or lunch meal here
A restaurant thats close to my heart...!
Tangerine has been our family favorite over the years and aside to the fantastic food and service, me any my wife carry very fond memories of this restaurant. We have been frequenting Tangerine since the year 2005 before our wedding and I must admit this restaurant has been keeping our taste buds still alive. One can never get bored of this place.
In my opinion this is the only restaurant serving some great Sizzlers and they are really good at this. Afterall, they were the first exclusive Sizzlers restaurant in town!
The restaurant itself is tucked into a quite residential neighbourhood and the ambience is great with subtle lighting and great music. The menu has a great non-vegetarian spread and ofcourse there is a great choice for Vegetarians and kids too! My fav is the Chiken Peri Peri with the fantastic Lemon Ice Tea and finish it off with thier lip smacking Brownies! Yummm! I've started to feel hungry now.. ! :)
My final verdict: A great place to dine with your family or with that "someone special"... !
Great starters and desserts....
Enjoy going to Tangerine because I like the starters very much....crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms being my favorites. The other reason I like to go to this restaurant is because I love the desserts, death by chocolate, apple pie and ice cream, brownie and ice cream......I also like the spicy chicken and coriander soup!! We always have a good time when we go to Tangerine, so give it a try and I am sure you too will.....
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
My friends in Chennai (who are now in various parts of the globe) swore by the quality and quantity of food served over here. This is the reason I went last night. Except for the soup everything else was simply a waste of money. The starter of potato skins was so-so but the main course was horrible. If I could rate it any lesser. I would. Please avoid going here.. they might have served some delicious stuff in the past ..but definitely not any more.
We went to Tangerine 10 days back after a lot of recommendations from a few friends. The entire experience was really a put off. The ambience is very average, the service is poor, and the food horrible. We order a lasagne which was over-cooked with oil coming out of cheese. The filling was only shredded paneer. The entire dish looked like a horrible attempt at making pasta. Ordered sizzlers which were also very ordinary in taste. And the most funny part was there JACKET POTATOES, supposedly the signature dish. Couldn't believe that the jacket potatoes where actually 'boiled aloos' wrapped in aluminium foil. Such a sham!
People looking for good sizzlers should go to Kobe's. While the Mumbai one is amazing, the Chennai outlet is also quite decent
Food makes up for it all!
Tangerine is a small place with only a handful of tables, and not much of a decor. It is bright with large glass windows and doors. The orange napkins are smartly folded to resemble a waiter's jacket which are placed on the plate. The service is ok, nothing to complain about nor is it is anything outstanding. The drinks are interesting, while the sizzlers are the main attraction of the menu! Their steaks are delicious and make for a wonderfully filling meal! The Steak Diane is a brilliantly pepped steak with a side of veggies and a baked potato topped with sour cream and chives. A filling yet unbelievably amazing dish! Their steaks are one of the best in town. If you can manage more after that, I strongly suggest you try the Death By Chocolate (DBC). Although the number of pieces in the DBC have decreased its still the perfect dessert! The price is a bit expensive, but not entirely unreasonable. You pretty much get what you pay for. Tangerine is not a place to go to revel in the ambiance; its more of a place to just go to enjoy your food with good company. If I have a choice...let it be death by chocolate!
One time try!
Disappointing,I must say......Experiance in bangalore Tangerine was so good.......here its jus the opposite.........Poor ambiance.......below average service and expencive price.........wont feel value for money!
Food is jus fine, one cant really njoy sizzlers bcoz of the poor ambiance........Its jus a one time try!!!!!!!
Delicious Food with poor service
We have been going to this joint for last 5 years (right from 2004 summers when they opened). It is safe to say the food tastes delicious at an affordable price (considering the options available in the city). During this period we have also seen a steep drop in the quality of service, especially in understading their guests' needs. However this has not deterred us from going to this place.
Suggestions: Mushroom spinach soup. Potato fillings. Mushroom corn cheese on a bed of rice (Veg Sizzler), Asian Sauce on rice (Veg Sizzler - a new addition), Steaks (veg), End it with either a "death by chocolate" or "Chocolate Brownie on Sizzler".
Not much competition to this joint...
..as the title of my review suggests, it's almost unbeaten, only because there's not much competition for this kind of cuisine. It's a niche menu, having a variety of sizzlers. Now, my review might be a little biased, mainly because I practically live on sizzlers and grew up eating them.
The fine points about this place: "Just-about-right" lighting! Not too bright, not too dark...just right to atleast see what you eat. It's quite airy thanks to it's simple layout and choice of furniture.
Starters are not that exciting, they may please some people. I wasn't too impressed with the array. However, their soups, particularly their prawn and cream soup, is my favourite! I tried having it at various places across the city (couldn't find many to be honest), can't beat this!
The sizzlers as such are good..in fact great! There's a particular sizzler (can't remember the name, I skip the names and go directly to the description), which has chicken steak filled with asparagus stuffing. That's one of my favourites. And during my gluttony mode, I choose the King Arthur (i remember that name cos you eat like a king with that one!), and/or the mixed sizzlers.
Another highlight which makes me a frequent visitor is their mustard sauce! To understand why I'm saying this, the next time you visit, take a little sauce in a teaspoon, and taste it...you'll feel it hit your head really hard, literally!
And of course, no meal at Tangerine is complete, without their "Death by Chocolate' dessert. True to the name, it's a devilish concoction of chocolate mousse (I guess :-p), with loads of chocolate sauce. I'm suspecting it's home-made as the sauce doesn't taste like it's store-bought.
Minus points: Can't think of many. I don;t complain much about their service. But it does dip a lot during crowded weekends. And the car park is inadequate. At times I need to go further down the road (atleast 50-100 mts ) to find a good spot.
We went to Tangerine on Monday last straight from office. Since I was late from office, I did not have the time to change my attire and hence was probably looking a little jaded and dress a little crumpled. One look at me, the chief waiter gave me a disdainful look and there stared the very worst service. They were barely civil and some of the waiters could not speak english(even when we spoke in tamil, they insisted on speaking only in English) and gave my husband wrong info on fish fry. Food was ok(nothing to wrote home about), but the SERVICE WAS VERY BAD. Will never go back there.
best sizzlers yumm
went there on a saturday, busy day i suppose.Had to wait for 30 mins.We where a group of four. The manager was really courtious.Being a chef i went with a lot of expectation.Satay chix with the peanut dip was great just like what u get in a thai restaurant.tried there beef peruvia wow just amazing, great stuff, chicken bellpepper cooked to the indian palate a bit spicy loved it.Being a continental restaurant didnt want to try there indian sizzlers why should i?Desserts where great looks like they make there own stuff had a wonderfull experience.if anybody u wanst to try continental food a must go.If u like indian food stay out.
Tangerine is supposed to be the best restaurant for sizzlers in Chennai. I was forced to go to this place on a Friday and I was completely taken back by seeing the crowd. We waited for almost 45 mins for a table and I assumed that the food will be great. We were a group of 7 and we had a good chance of trying a wide spread from the menu.
Ill begin with the appetizers. The Barbequed chicken was the worst. The chicken was raw and there was an overdose of til in it. The food is generally salt free. The lamb appetizer was so hard that if you strike it against the wall, it would make a pretty large hole. I was hoping for the crispy fried vegetable to be edible but it turned out to be a glorified whole flour bajji. The chicken satay is the only decent appetizer on the menu and if you try it Id suggest to not trying the peanut dip that is given along with it. The dip tasted stale and spices were completely wrong. The crab cakes were decent though.
Now coming to the sizzlers, I tried the malai chicken tikka sizzler (which was recommended) and it wasnt bad. It was served with cold potato salad which had too much chat masala and spiced vegetables which was the best on my plate. There were about 6 to 7 pieces of chicken which I managed to finish very quickly and I were still a little hungry after that. There was this weird named beef sizzler which was also tried by one of us. It was so hard that the cabbage base tore when we were trying to have a small bite. The shashlik vegetable sizzler was supposed to have a skewer of kebab but what actually came to out table was a vegetables on skewers that was microwaved. But the only thing nice about the sizzler was the best of rice below it and the finely made gravy on top of it. It had the same salad and baked vegetables. The other sizzlers had very weird names and the explanation seemed great below it, but it turned out to be the exact opposite of what we expected. There were 6 chicken sizzlers with different names but they were all deep fried served with the same gravy on top but the only difference was the dressing.
Other than sizzlers they serve naan and black dal (it is so bad that even horse food would taste better). The desserts are decent and the iced tea is the best in the menu. I guess it was so good because it made by lipton and not by the sous-chef. Overall it only makes a hole in your pocket and leaves your stomach empty.
Purely for continental buffs
I actually wanted to rate 3.5 but no provision here, hence 3.
Apart from Food:
Located neatly in Murray Gate's Road away from the hustling TTK road, Tangerine sports a posh look from the outside, that is because every table is candle lit and the whole ambience is dim lit. But surprise awaits you when you enter, as the tables were quite packed. I went on a friday so obviously not only the place was crowded but very noisy which was a bit unusual for a niche and expensive restaurant. Also the music was a tad louder. Parking space is poor, so be there around 7.30 pm to avoid parking hassles else you gotta park on the road itself but I don't think thats uncommon there.
Now for the Food Factor. As my title goes, its purely a delight for a continental lover. Their Brocheta veg starter (vegetables and bread) was really good. So was the chicken starter (Sorry I dont rem the names or spellings either). Garlic Prawns was merely king size prawns tossed with capsicums with not much flavour to it.
You have a lot of both veg and non veg sizzlers to choose for the main course. People, this place is known for their sizzlers. Chicken Bell Pepper was quite good with a continental flavour which I guess even a non continental person would like. And then the Chicken Peri Peri with rice was reallly mouth wateringly exotic with a more Indian touch to it. Boy that was really good and filing. Also the Grilled Chicken Napolean was a good continental pick with a rich taste especially the wine. They also serve pastas here and we tried Arbita Pasta. This was disappointing. The flavour was simply sour and tasted more like a simple tomato sauce. Not good. Even my mom would make a better one.
Orders did take a while to be served. One interesting thing about Tangerine is the Sizzlers would sizzle all the way to your table and keep sizzling for a while. I wouldn't say the service was excellent but it was more than good. The prices were a bit deep on the pockets. Yes, I would call this place very expensive. Or I'll leave it to you to decide. With starters, main course and no desserts, for five people it cost a bit more than 2 grand.
Finally, I would recommend Tangerine if you are bored with your so often Chinese, pizzas, North Indian, etc and wanna explore something else. To spend time with your loved one, a strict NO. But thats just me. Thanks anyway. Enjoy!!!
Good but Expensive Sizzlers
The grub (read sizzlers) was tasty, but the food did take a while to be concocted owing to there being only one chef (or at least only one was visible). The waiter was not as polite as can be expected. The Ambiance is nothing to write about.
The garlic lemon prawns were wonderful. The spicy chicken soup was tasty, so were the crab cakes. The mixed grill consisting of sausages, chicken and beef; and the seafood mixed grill consisting of fish, prawns and crab cakes were mouthwatering and delicious. The presentation of the dishes were good and were served with a side serving of vegetables and tastefully done potatoes with cheese. We had death by chocolate for desert which was worth killing for.
Overall i would say the food is really good but a bit overpriced.
