Don't Go Here Unless You're a Foreigner
We made the mistake of going here one afternoon when we were dying of hunger. Infantaria always had a good reputation, but we were thoroughly disappointed. The waiters did not care about the locals and were more interested in seating the foreign couple who walked in after us. After a futile argument with the management, we decided not to waste more time here as we were hungry and we walked out.
Decent Food, Below Average Service.
We got to this place because we had heard so much about their Goan sausages, and so we did. Turns out they really don't care if they tend to their customers or not. Took nearly 45 minutes for them to take our order on a Friday morning, Even with a few tables empty. They have a decent ambience going, and nice breakfast to offer. So we were a group of 10 and had a lot of different things to order, so the waiter(who finally turned up) and took our order and he comes in later, throwing in an extra pizza that we didn't ask for, blaming us for it, and making it clear to us that it will be put on the bill regardless of whether we eat it or not. Never have I felt such hostility towards a customer in any hotel. And we did not get our Goan sausages, but we were still billed for it. Overall, you have to ask them 3-4 times to get anything. A decent place if they wish to change their waiters' attitudes.
One of my favorite places in Calangute
Love the ambiance. the energy of the place is great. nice food, good drinks and decent service. On some days when they have a full house, it does become a mad house and you may have to wait to be served but it is worth the wait. A little sad that they don't have the custard pav ( a custard filled pie) anymore.
average food, poor service
Our Goa vacation this time was dedicated to seeking out the smallest of the smallest and the best of local cuisine...which took us to Infantaria for breakfast on the first day since we'd heard so much about the place.
We were mighty disappointed with the cheese and ham omlette + toast.. It's GOA! Everyone bakes here, the bread tasted like regular wibbs bread and ham croissant did not impress either... the prawn rissois, chicken puff was delicious.. Needless to say we took all our breakfasts for the rest of our trip elsewhere.. BUT, we'd not given up hope. On our last day in Goa, we decided to try the desserts; chocolate malibu cake and cheesecake brownie... And YES, as exotic as it may sound, it was exactly that delicious!!
We're soon going back to Goa to try their seafood too..
Service though was terrible, the waiter refused to take our order forever, but we figured a way around that too..
Overall, I've given up on Infantaria for breakfast, they need to innovate and not rest on past laurels.
This place is a heaven for foodies as they help you kick start the day well.....We went there for breakfast and it was indeed very filling......you have plethora of choices to eat and a lot of variety for vegetarians. The pancakes are to die for. There is a lot of rush here so expect a little less hospitality but the food is amazing.
First visit, and fell in love. Nothing grand or posh, but the food is delicious. The breakfast is to die for, and once you've had it, you really don't feel like getting up for anything. Perfect fit with the lazy and laid back feel of Goa. Service is good. Best bit is that it carries something for the vegetarians as well. Their shakes are a must-try! For scrumptious breakfast, try going there before noon, or the dessert sections gets closed.
Infantaria is truly a Goan institution. No trip to Goa is complete without the customary breakfast/ brunch here. A great location that's in a really easy to access part of Calangute on the main road, with a lot more parking than most Goa shacks, this is the place to go for breakfast with their large collection of superbly prepared snacks and bakes. Sausages sausages sausages oh and eggs too! Fresh juice, the perfect pancake, this really is the place to indulge. Go upstairs and enjoy a bit of breeze with your meal. And guess what? It's super-easy on the pocket too!
Why I keep going here again and again and again...
Infantaria is one place which keeps pulling me back on every trip. Its like that temple you visit every Saturday. More than a eatery, its a religion.
Be it their awesome offers on beer, the stupendous desserts, the out-of-this-world breakfast or just the aura of this place. I don't think there is anything about them that I'll like to change.
I'm in love with their variations with eggs, the pancakes (which are so heavenly that you are destined to repeat the order) and the awesome coffee. There have been days when I came all the way to Calangute just for Infantaria!
Best breakfast place in Goa
Arguably the best breakfast joint in whole of Goa. Be it an american/british/indian kind one yearns for, you'll be happy & satisfied in food coma when you leave this place. To start with the masala omlette is to die for, its perfectly made with apt blend of softness & crispiness with no compromise on taste. Cheese chili toast is cheesy crunchy & spicy as right as it has to be. The bagels & croissants are soft fluffy & a definite hit. To wash them all down, you must have the cold coffee with/without ice cream or the chocolate milkshake. Being served in tall cocktail glasses, the quantity also adds in as a bonus the yumminess! Instead of an a la carte, one can go ahead with their complete readymade breakfast course meal (so as to say) menus offering omelette, bacon & eggs, sandwiches, toast etc. With every coin having 2 sides, the only thing they need to work on it the sloppy service. Probably, they take in quite a while to serve as the dishes are freshly prepared. Guess what, even the breads are made in their in house bakery. Ambiance is very british/european like when it comes to decor and where you can sit for hours without being troubled for your next order. They have a rooftop seating as well for those wanting to have a better view of the swarming bikes across Calangute roads.
P.S - Just in case, your one of the kinds that needs alcohol to cure an alcoholic hangover, they serve alcohol at dirt cheap prices. Don't miss their in house offers like 4 Tiger beer cans at 100 bucks & many more such ones.
Terribly slow service yet not to be missed
I have never missed out on a chance to go to Infantaria for breakfast - their breakfast menus is one of the best in Goa and I love the place itself, two floors. I prefer the upper one which is airy and you can eat in peace. Their cold coffee is really tasty and I always order their set breakfast (can't remember what it's called). However, what takes away from this entire experience is the service. Tortoises move faster, honestly. You've to call the waiters at least 3 times before they realize you're still waiting for your breakfast and by the time it arrives, most of the things on your plate go COLD. Maybe if you opt for the ground floor, service would be better, can't say because it's always been full when we've gone there. Go there for the breakfast - and don't expect service at all. Also expensive.
a fifty fifty experience
Infantaria easily catches anyones eye when you are going towards Tito's lane in Colangute and there is some appeal to its appearance which attracts any first time visitor... we were no exceptions...
Visited one evening for Dinner, they advertised few offers on the ground floor:
- 1Full Vodka + 5 RedBull 950 bucks
- 5 beers for 250 and some more
We took seats at the first floor and the manager informed us that there is a live performance so they wont give us any offers on the 1st floor, the offers will only apply on ground floor so we moved down.
The service was reasonably quick and food not bad or maybe we were just too drunk to care.
we gave it another shot for breakfast, this time it was a disaster
the waiters arrogantly said give all orders at once or keep waiting for everything.
whatever we ordered was not good either ... baked beans ... completely lacking any taste what so ever... scrambled egg... again was smelly... omelets werent done well either ... we ordered for pancakes and were given crepes instead. Thus we decided never to visit again.
Avoid it like the plague.
There are some things which take effort to mess up. Like toast. The bread is ready made, the toaster is bought, electricity is transmitted. You just need someone put the bread in and push a button.
Infantaria is incredible consistency of disappointment- messes up even the toast. Horrible service, stale food, delays of 1 hour in giving coffee. The fries were made from stale potatoes, the chocolate chip muffin probably an artifact from colonial rule; and the fried egg had no seasoning.
Why it seems so full, I will never understand. But I leave you with this. Eight of us ordered a full course breakfast here- the only thing half good were baked beans pulled out of a can.
if you want to test you're patience... come here
Infantaria... One of the most talked about joints on d calangute stretch used to be a treat for ones stomach... However like most places, glory has gone to their head. Now this place is more of a test of you're patience as if you're not white skinned you would have to wait a life time for the waiters to just come to take you're order. Once the order is placed brace yourself... the waiter will come every other min "sir the ___ isn't there", every other freaking thing ain't there. Food is surprisingly decent... But not worth the wait. And guess what it takes em a fraction of a second to get the bill.
Absolutely over hyped place
Pathetic (apathetic too) service staff.
Horrible food. (As someone said earlier, they messed up french fries. But most of the goan joints i visited seemed to get their fries wrong, so..)
Avoid traditional Goan dishes. U will cry. They seem to think traditional goan food = vinegar OD.
Warm beers (colloquially called 'piss')
And try the chicken burger if you want to experience what the guy from Man v Wild does.
I won't even feed a stray dog there.
the food was nice..... ambiance truly goan...loved the decor on first floor..
u must try the pork roast out here its simply amazing.....prawns garlic butter was delicious...m/....
thats not it.....if ur bill is more than 300 (how foolish of me to say that.....) u get 5 beer pints for Rs 100 only.....(they gave us 6 pints for 100 ...i dont know yy....)
The food was great - place customer friendly! I just loooooooooved this place!! Would like to specially mention Paul and his colleague who wears glasses (I dont remember his name - my bad!) for their awesome service - we took a table on the ground floor and were sooooo impressed - best food in the area at reasonable price, oh yeah and the live music - really nice! Definitely on my "visit again' list
Great food with great offers
Went for a trip to Goa and had a lunch there. The food was great. We ordered many dishes (as we were 8 people) and almost all the dishes were good. We ordered a special Goan dessert and it tasted great. They also offer 6 beer pints in 100 Rs only.
Highly recommended if you are visiting Goa and staying nearby Calangute beach. Their English breakfast was awesome too.
Not so cool anymore
Infantaria used to be a great place for breakfast and desserts but when I visited it last month, I found it to be not-so-impressive. The service was slow and the food was just about average. The prawns appetizer was uninspiring, the pasta was cheesy enough to please, the juices/coolers were not very fresh. The Greek salad was the only winner. The place has certainly lost its charm!
This place has a bakery which caters as well as a restaurant . the restaurant is nice and airy..The food we ordered came out very well and the staff was very courteous .Itis kind of small so there are not many tables and chairs .The catering service served good food and was efficient as they catered around 100 guests for my grandmothers death anniv mass. It was done very professionally.
When I was visiting Goa in the monsoon of 2005, was staying at Calangute and used to frequent this wonderful place often. Infact had mentioned about Infantaria in my blog then - relevant excerpt below:
... down the road, and around the second corner is the bakery and a café restaurant combine. Its authentic, going by the mix of locals there. A warm fresh croissant, butter, marmalade and freshly brewed coffee for breakfast. The waiters are simple and friendly and help you weigh down one end of the newspaper to the table with the salt shaker, so the wind does not disturb the local news as you read it, and eat your croissant the same time.. some people have something stronger at this time of the day, but the firm welcomes all...
Thanks Infantaria for the great time then .. hope to be able to go there on my next visit to Goa ...
