I'm a very non veg person, but Basil manages to make me forget the chicken every time I get there. The Thai corn soup with its coconut base and crunchy corns will ensure a non veggie doesn't regret that missing chicken. Order some paneer starters and you'll be in for a juicy delight. The main course is almost regular but then there's always the Basil touch of a royal touch every curry with a rich nutty gravy. One simple suggestion - stick go paneer and mostly Indian stuff for the main course. And to all that add the amazing bird's eye view of banjara hills. You are set for a beautiful yummy evening :)
Nice ambience and good food!
This is probably one of the restaurants i frequented the most - coz m a veggie. N i must tell you, this is one of the best veg restaurants in town. I've been to ohris Jiva too but it was less than average - the food and ambience. What i've noticed is that they've maintained consistent quality with the food from the time i've been frequenting this place. The buffet has a pretty decent variety and it wont punch a hole in your pocket.
Its quiet and has pleasant music. They ran out on the muffins which was slightly disappointing, i didn't bother ask either. But its important they keep replenishing the stock when it gets over. All in all a good experience.
Very good veg place
This is an excellant place with lavish veg fair.... great mocktails.... great place to host a party as they have exclusive private cabin for 15 - 20 members
Parda paneer a must try...... good desserts
Very courteous and good service
They do have a banquet hall for holding functions
As always Basil rocks....food and service was great. Some of the reviews about the service made me think twice to visit Basil, on discussion with one of the staff i came to know that Mr. Jaffery (manager) and some other staff were sacked by the management for their rude behavior with the customers. Late but good decision taken by the management.
Keep going Basil...
Great Veg. Food
If food is the only consideration this place rocks.....but the other factors pull it down. Ambiance is okay, staff is not et all courteous (they keep insisting us to seat on particular table which we didn't want)...overall a average affair.
P.S. Dal Makhani is a must try here.
OK place..not fab
Went there with couple of my friends. Rude reception on the counter. After seating at a table for a while, had to change for no reason given by the staff. Starters were ok type. Consumed a lot of time to bring in the main course. Food was Avg. Overall exp. not enjoyable. May not visit again.
a welcome so rude, it intends to drive you away
I received a text message announcing their 'fabulous weekend dinner buffet' for Friday and was eager to try it out. The message said to call the given mobile number for 'reservations'. I called, made reservations for 8:00 pm and landed up on time with my husband. There were a few people sitting outside the restaurant apparently waiting their turn. We waited a while for someone to show us in and the manager, mr. jaffery, appeared. when we told him we had reservations, he rudely dismissed us and asked us to wait. When we tried to clarify by asking whether reservations were vaild or it was first-come-first-served, he responded in a condescending tone. Thereafter, his attitude took a turn for the worse, he was just not willing to acknowledge that we had made a reservation and to apologize to us for the delay. His attitude was 'you are privileged to eat here, so you had better wait'. It totally spoiled our mood for the evening and we left the place after trying to reason with the man and finally losing our patience with him. Looks like the concept of reserving a table for two was totally lost on him!
And it wasn't just us, we saw several others walking away, unwilling to deal with his attitude. He claimed he was the sole in-charge of the restaurant and there was no one we could escalate our complaints to!
I had visited basil a couple of times earlier and thoroughly enjoyed their alacarte fare. looking at the other comments on the buffet here, it looks like a logistical issue. However,it is a pity that with people like Mr. Jaffery facing the customers, the good food and excellent service of the staff in the restaurant and the superb chefs will never get due credit. They lost quite a few customers that day, and are probably losing several more disgruntled customers every day.
They not only lost one potentially devoted customer but also one who could have been a very vocal fan.
Basil is a rarity in Hyderabad, with fine Dining so often catering largely to the omnivore class. So for dedicated vegetarians and family, it is a nice place to go when you're taking those picky eaters along.
The ambience is great, and the seats and tables are comfortable and as expected. Service can be a bit on the slow side when the place is at it's peak, but that's really not unusual in any resto in Hyderabad.
The food is quite good, and you have a variety from which to choose which always helps. The chinese platter however, was not up to the level of what came later. Pastas were delicious, and the preparation very well done. Noodles were good too, as were the rotis/naan/kulchas and the Dal Basil was simply out of this world(though not diet-friendly - it's full of cream). The Date wonton available with or without ice cream is a completely different dessert than what I am used to while being completely delicious.
As a Bonus, the rates are not unreasonable for a location like Banjara Hills. This may be due to the fact that they do not serve any kind of alcoholic beverage at all, but as a consolation the mocktails are also delicious, if a bit filling.
PS: this review is for the dinner service, cannot claim to know their lunch buffet
Good for Jain food
I am jain, and last weekend I went there. I ordered jain food which was really tasteful..
We ordered 1/2 tamatar shorba, 1 noodle lollypop starter, 1 basil veg curry, 3 butter rotis... It was having fantastic taste. This was the first time, we didn't left anything in plate. We completed everything for very first time...
Moreover, bill amount was also not that high.. It was just 540 rs for 2 ppl.
Worth going there...
Being non-veggie,was quite apprehensive of trying the pure veg fare. But was not totally disappointed. The Lunch buffet looked pretty regular. So we chose from the menu. The starters were pretty good specially the methi mushroom and some corn stuff. The soup was way far from hot and the worst disappointment was the main course. Regular ghar ka khana taste.
A little disappointing
From the time Ive come to Hyderabad, Ive heard only nice things about Basil. Lots of people have given it a five star rating. So, when I visited it with my colleagues a couple of days back for a team lunch, I went in expecting the food to be nothing short of outstanding. Unfortunately, Basil did not live upto its reputation. The Buffet lunch menu comprised of a couple of starters, 2 different types of soups, 3 varieties of side dishes, roti, appam, noodles, a Chinese side dish, Biryani, Jeera rice, raitha, 2 south Indian dishes, rice and deserts. Conspicuously absent were sambhar and rasam which are such inseparable elements of a south Indian meal. I dunno how they expected us to consume the south Indian side dishes and rice without the 2 aforementioned items. Anyway, the starters were decent, not great. The soup on the other hand was woeful. The main course was I would say average or maybe just above average. Nothing that would make you go back for more. The deserts consisted of icecream and Jalebi & Rabdi which were pretty good. The buffet cost us Rs.170 per head which is a little expensive considering the fact that the food was far from satisfying. Having earned the reputation of being one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the city, more is expected from Basil. Hopefully Ill be pleasantly surprised next time I visit it.
Very good vegetarian food
I think after a very long time, I enjoyed having a very good vegetarian food. From soups, starters to main course and even biryani, I thoroughly relished the food. Hope it remains that way for a long time.. Highly recommend this restaurant for its
- nice ambience
- awesome veg food
However it is a bit expensive though.. But good to go once in a while.
A Veg affair
Good ambience and ok food. It's all vegetarian though. Try the pita sandwich if you like mediterranean food. The corn 65 was good too. The soups tasted as though they opened up a packet of Knorr and mixed it with boiling water, in other words, they didnt taste as though they were freshly made
