A Veg Affair**

Bikanerwala, located at Banjara hills, is a place that dishes out some absolutely yummy dishes!!
The bhel puri and papdi chat are amazing... whereas the pani puri lacks taste.Try their basic onion-capsicum pizza...It melts in your mouth..
The pav bhaji is simply delicious and deserves a special mention. The paneer dhokla is average and the khandvi is too sweet.
The Chinese cuisine is fairly good...The north Indian thali is simply wowwww!!!! :) The parathas, paneer curry, mix veg curry and dal makhni are oh-so-mouth-watering...
The burger is disappointing with a sad taste... As for the desserts, the kulfi falooda is really sad, its bland..The chocolate dessert is delicious. So is the cold coffee with ice cream..Its just perfect!
To sum up, yes, this is a place one must try out for its signature dishes!!

Authentic Rajasthani Sweets

I had first tasted Ghewar at a friend's place in Jaipur. That was one delicious sweet dish I ever had. Those round discs appealed me so much that I really had a craving for it after I returned to Hyderabad.

I did visit Bikanerwala quite a few times. It was mainly for those sumptuous chats, lassi, the bikanervala papad, the dry fruits etc. And then that one day, I saw Ghewar in the store and my happiness knew no bounds. They were available in various sizes, those around 250-500gms that fit into a palm and those weighing 1-2 kgs. I tried the smaller ones since that would fill me up completely. And when I tasted it, it did taste like the one that I had tasted at my Rajasthani friend's place. Now, that is called authenticity. Hats off to the Bikanerwala Store and its management for maintaining that tradition.

Meetha Bikanerwala

I do not specifically have a sweet tooth but when it comes to Bikanerwala, I jsut cannot control myself. It never happened that I passed by Care Hospital road @ Banjara Hills and never stopped at Bikanerwala.

My favorite list: Moti Choor laddoo, rasmalai, rasogulla, ajmeri khalakhand, kala jamun, various types of pastries, the bikanerwala masala papad, raj kachori, dhokla, ghewar etc etc.

All the food, chat items are fresh and melt into the mouth. The service is quick enough too and the management is helpful too. They do help us in finalizing our order and do take the pain to explain the contents of those sweets.

Also, most of the sweets and snacks are available in a ready made gift-packing, these include dry fruits or dry fruits platter. They do even have a bread section which has fresh kulchas, breadsticks, pav buns and many more.

It is a little highly priced but I do not tend think about that since I get yummiest sweets.

Veg Guys...watch out this restaurant!!

These guys offer you the best vegetarian buffet in town. No Restaurant can beat it. All the items on the offering are just too delicious. Their paneer preparations are exquisite. The street food offered along with the buffet is very authentic and u'll not feel like its being served with the buffet. The restaurant is a perfect retreat for the vegetarians in this biryani dominated city!!

Tasty Sweets

Just next to Karachi Bakery, it's hard to miss and is heavily crowded during the weekend.

Being located on the main road in Banjara Hills helps but the parking is a huge challenge here.

The sweets are very tasty and some of them melt in your mouth.

Cleanliness in the restaurant is very good and the chat items are prepared in front of us with Mineral water etc. But some of the chaat items are not too spicy... there is a distinct sweetness to some of the dishes.

Items are a bit pricey given the kind / type of food that is being served.

Good North Indian Chaats!

Bikanerwala, just below Karachi Bakery are probably the most famous eating out places in Banjara Hills. Bikanerwala is always crowded as i mostly go their to try their chaats, and its good too...but the time they take to actually serve it is pretty much.. I felt the staff is also slightly rude! But the quality odf chaat is definately dere. I good bet for chaats and sweets!

Pathetic Service

The service is abysmal if you do not belong to a certain community as was the experience of my family. I could also have been another of the many idiots who go there and ignore this fact for whatever reasons.

Bad Service

Our family went out for a dinner buffet and experienced very bad service. We had to wait for over 30 minutes for rotis to be served. The waiters really don't care especially if you have ordered a buffet. Their focus is only on customers who have a la carte. This fact was openly mentioned by one of the waiters. We have decided to boycott this place as service levels are dismal. Be aware of poor service levels.

Good North Indian Veg Buffet

The veg only buffet is pleasing, with the real attraction being the sweets in the dessert section.

Expensive yet tasty Snacks, sweeets and savouries

If you don't mind shelling out money on samosas, paranthas, chat, lassi this is the place. Expensive though, you would delight on roadside eateries.
lassi is my favourite here, followed by savouries.
Can be avoided though.

Veges can make you feel drunk :)

At the end of last night's meal at Bikanervala buffet, that's exactly what I felt. I guess Pure Ghee Chole Bature, perfectly done Pani Puri, Dahi Puri and Bhel Puri, juicy Dhoklas, Creamiest Paneers, SyrupBursting Rasgullas, Ghee Soaked Moong Daal Halwa and Maal Pua, have that effect on you!!! Add Fruit Sandwich, butter naan, almost perfect pasta, suhanri kebab, haryali paneer and unlimited supply of Khus Sherbet to all that; and the only thing that you can ask for is "Can you please give me a bed too, I can't drive back home". Yesterday for once I thought I might just turn vegetarian. But, naaah, some other time :)

Excellent North Indian Food

Me and Hubby dear stumbled onto this place by accident. We were around the area and were looking for a nice place to have dinner and ended up wanting to 'Try it' out.

Lovely spread and great taste. So many items are offered, that one tends to get full just tasting everything. LOL. But everything we had was SO GOOD. There was nothing we didn't like. At 450 + it is a tad expensive for a dinner buffet but the spread probably justifies it, the taste certainly does !

And a pure vegetarian place !

Authentic

The place is God-sent for North Indians like me who crave for authentic chaats and North Indian food. This places serves the best chaat and North Indian in town without doubt. The food here reminds me of the food I have had in Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jaipur and others in North.

I read some reviews below where people found the place not to be very good. This is probably because they have not tasted these things in north Indian cities. Be it the chaats, gol gappe, rajma, kadhi, chole, thali, lassi or chaas, everything is authentic and as it should be made. I have never gone to the buffet so can't comment on it. The sweets too are of good standard too.

The place seems a bit over priced because people associate a lot of what is on the menu with street food which is usually pretty cheap. But despite the price tag, I think the taste and quality of food compensates.

Ambiance - not much of it in the lower seating area
Food - 4.5/5
Service - 3.5/5 (anyways it is self service)
Value for money - 4/5

unhygenic food and bad hospitality

As i a regular visitor to the Bikaner wala ...i often had only the chats and sweets which is available on the ground floor. One of my friend had told me to try their buffet which is on the first floor, so i had taken my family along with me to give it a try.

we went their on a week day and had opted for their buffet. the food was pretty decent but while having the dessert (Gulab Jamun), which i was sharing with my 3 year old daughter i found a piece of paper in it. i simply called the waiter who was looking after our table and told him politely to change the dish and i showed him the paper in it. he just took that paper piece which had come in the gulab jamun and vanished and neither got a fresh one. after searching him for few minutes saw him serving some other table. then i called a Captain and explained him every thing. rather apologising he told me that while catering to so many customers incidents like this do happen. then i had to call for the manager who took another 15 minutes to come and apologise. Rather apologising he told me that i need not pay the bill.
it isreally schoking to see such a incident happining in a reputed brand wo does not have proffesional people who knows how to apologise.

i asked for the bill and paid the entire amount. when i asked for a feed back form i was given a form without a serial no. ( which i feel must not have reached the management) this compelled me to put such a n incident on a Social networking site.

Great Starters, Salads, Chat & main course

We love this place and is a defacto place for our family meets. I love the chats, the Salad bar which also has a make your self salad setting also. I also love their dhokla (plain and fried). The best dish I have tasted here is of course the Dal Makhni which is simply unbeatable. I also like their Chole-Bhatura when available as a part of their buffet menu. The Malpua on the dessert is generally the best.

Never been there on Weekends or tried a la carte

Chaat & Sweets

As you enter this shop, you have the sweet counters to your right and ice cream counter to your left. I had come on a specific mission and immediately zeroed in on my prized catch - Bengali gurer sondesh. But my wife suggested that we have some namkeen first- so we settled down with Papri chat and a Raj Kachori in the seating place ahead.

The chaats were really good, one should look at the variety of ingradients put, like sliced veg, many types of namkeens and a variety of chutneys.

Inside the shop towards the end you have the namkeen counters lined up. Starting with varieties of designer dhoklas, to kachories and sandwich samosa and othaer chats, you have the dosa counters next. Finally you have the counter for veg mini meals, which has a mini thali, and northy delicacies like rajma chawal and kadi chawal. Made a mental note to come back once later to try these.

After the chats we went for the sweets. The gurer sandesh was yummy, and had liquid khejur gur inside. Tried their mistidoi but somehow did not like the taste. The am sandesh was a Bengali sweet flavored by mango syrup. The malpua I thought was too sweet.

And finally I must comment that once is not enough. I must be back.

They also have an elaborate seating arrangement in the first floor where I understand they have a veg buffet.

so far the most amazing bufet i've ever had. who remembers the price when the spread is so so so delicious?? the number of dishes- salds, chinese, north-indian= is simply amazing, as is the taste. and the rasgullas and the gulab jamuns simply melted in my mouth. the sweets actually put me in a good mood!! have a lunch date? try this one, for sure!

Great Food, but sour experience

This is a fantastic place because the food is so good. I was a regular customer till one bad experience soured my experience. After spending quite a good amount of money on lunch, I ordered a scoop of ice-cream. I asked the server very politely to please give me solid icrecream from the center of the container. He glared and me and gave me a scoop of melted liquid icecream from the sides of the container. In addition, he rudely told me that "This is what you are going to get". What? Why?

I had to take the matter to the manager for a scoop of icecream?? Seriously?? When I wrote an e-mail (yes, their website has a link where you can complain) explaining how it takes me 1.5hrs of driving one way to reach their restaurant and how I expect better behavior from their servers, I got NO response from the management on the website. The service and the website are both big jokes!! Its too bad too, since I was a big spender and visited every weekend.

Please people, if you have a link on your website, please check on what your paying customers are saying and act on the feedback. I run a business too, and the least I would do is respond to a complaint.

awesome place for indian fast food

chaats, chana bhatura, sweets...you name it...they got it. a perfect place for a junk foodie. it's definitely not inexpensive, and the service doesn't have a wow factor...but it's a nice eating-out place anyway. and if you celebrate navratris, then please don't miss their navratri special thali :)

Share:

excellent north indian fast food

have only tried the fast food on the ground floor, as the main restaurant upstairs is usually jam-packed over the weekends. the chaat, bhaturas and sweets are awesome, and so are the thalis and mini meals. a must-go for any person who loves chatpata stuff

Uniformed road side staff

I usually go there for the chaat, mutter kulcha and chole. The service and food was good till recently.
on my visit yesterday I was amazed to find staff of such a well known chain fighting and abusing each other in front on the customers.
I understand there could be differences among ppl working to gather in the same organisation, but its totally not expected that one calls his colleague by rude words in front of the customers waiting to pick up the food from the counter. its all the more embarrassing when your family is with you.

the management needs a quick training session on manners and behaviour. the delhi type slangs will not work in here.

Bad Manager ...Good Food

I had a good food but pretty bad experience after the food. Manager attitude was bad enough to ruin the whole taste of food. Seems he had no experience on hospitality management. For every question he was putting blame on top management. Some promise was made over phone over the discount but was not accepted after had a dinner. I will think twice before believing on words.

over rated!

drove by, walked by, passed by the place a million times always wondering when will be the day i actually visit the place..it looked interesting from the outside- hustling and bustling with people always. went there one evening with a friend and reaslied that i created an unnecessary hype about the place...
first- they have a sad and annoying system of parking and valet parking
second- their chaat was not exceptional for the kind of exceptionally high prices they charge!
third- quantities are quite measly.
having said all this i must say that the snacks are pretty good- this one particular variety of potato chips is yummm- light and spicy, as also their garlic sev .
i would recommend going there only if you are too keen on trying out a new place . it can be totally avoided though!

CATER YOUR HUNGER @ 210

Piping hot soups
Yummy starters
Lip smacking chats
Array of delicious main course
And..
Mouth watering desserts..

Definitely a lavish buffet spread as claimed by them on the hoardings displayed outside of hotel..awesome ambience and courteous service is an added bonus..

The only soaring point is heavy crowds and horrendous noise..

A herd of youngsters sitting next to our table are simply yelling even after finishing their lunch long back causing immense dis comfort...

Adapt some methods to clear these unwanted crowds

Very Bad Experience!!

I had been craving to have buffet lunch at bikanerwala and finally visited that place this afternoon..Soup and starters were good..Was satiating my palate..but after few minutes everyone of us(five of us) felt heavy in the stomach and could not eat any more..it was not coz we had too much of food..we just had soup and a roti with dal..believe it or not..i could not even had buttermilk or watermelon...it took few hours to get into normal position..every one of us had the same feeling...

Totally i had a bad experience and i never have buffet again in this place..

TRY SAFRON STRINGS

Bikanerwala mainly has Bhujias and sweets, you go to eat proper food and not See and Enjoy sweets, recently I had been to Safron Strings at Road 12, B Hills, awesome food with huge varieties from starters to Main course, yes but not as many sweets.

Share:

Horrible Service..

I Agree with the previous Burrper...The service really pathetic..The Buffet is like any other spread...The only diff being that they have filled it up with sweets..which are unsold in their sweet shop..Even if you keep asking the waiters to fill up your glass with water they just walk away..TERIBBLE MANAGEMENT.

Nice Place Nice Food But Bad Staff

The choice of sweets available are really amazing. The buffet is excellent. Again options available are very wide. I found the gulab jamoons were too tasty. Dhoklas are really really smooth. A nice place. But Management need to more care about the guests. No one is there to attend us. The plates were not cleared on time. Water was not served being asked thrice. The staff attitudes needs a correction very immediately. Foremost thing is need to change your valet drivers. They were very very very rude. Nice food and nice ambience is not just required. Hospitality and Kindness of the Staff is utmost important.

Veg Buffet - As perfect as it can get..

Bikanerwala is famous as a North Indian sweet cum snack shop. I was delighted when it opened up in Hyd as I really miss the Delhi/North Indian sweets, chats and fast food!
The buffet has a great spread, very good collection of salads, starters, main course and deserts. The dhokla is awsome, paneer tikka is heavenly! The buffet has a great variety, taste and presentation too! The golgappas, chats are great too! Its completely value for money! Didn't find anything which was just average in taste...
The experience on the inauguration day was great, immensely crowded and amongst that we received a warm welcome with a tilak and a piece of sweet , welcome drinks and a box of fresh ladoos on the way out..typical north indian style of welcoming any guest! Really impressed :-)

Bliss for all those craving for delhi chat

Finally checked out the place yesterday eve... An what a treat it was..Had been craving for Delhi's aloo tikki chat for several days, and had given up all hope of ever finding the perfect aloo tikki in Hyderabad. But that was before I had tried out Bikanerwala. The chat was PERFECT...I would go to the extreme to say that it matches the one I had several months ago in Chandni Chowk!!! I think that says a lot. Papdi chat was also great, and by the looks of Cholle Bhature, I think BW had it right. Dhokla was just the perfect mouthful, whereas the momos were the best I had had till date in Hyderabad... Oh, and not to forget the scrumptious varieties of sweets...This place had the largest variety of North Indian sweets I had ever seen in Hyderabad. However, had tried Gajar ka halwa. I generally like a halwa with little less sugar, but this had even lesser sugar for my taste. There is no stall for serving Golgappas..The self service doesn't cut it for me...And the place is QUITE crowded...Opening up the 1st floor wouldn't hurt. All in all, a MUST visit for all those North Indians, dying to get the authentic taste.

finally great chaat!!!

finally hyderabad gets a great place to have chaat with so much variety. their kulchas are traditionally the delhi kulcha which hyderabad never served. raj kachori, pani poori, dahi bhalla, chole bhatura... all were awsome and very reasonably priced for the quality, quantity and hygiene. their stick kulfi just too good...

just two things i was dissapointed about, by 10 pm quiet a few things got over like samosas and kachoris...
secondly, no parking. such a good concept but no proper parking. hyderabadis are nawabs, they hate walking... should have considered another place with ample parking.

but still am happy as we do have a great chaat place.

Much More than jus a Sweet Shop

They recently started their first outlet in Hyderabad and my very first visit happened to be on their opening ceremony! It was a traditional event starting with Havan (Hindu prayer)etc but mentioning details like list of VIPS who attended would be inappropriate here.

So lets move on to the reception:
Much to my delight I was welcomed inside from the entrance.I was overwhelmed when the Owner wished me and put a piece of barfi(sweet) in my mouth. Now,this was despite of my gestures to take it in my hand.(BTW ,I was not a invitee)

Well, don't expect much in terms of ambiance:
Its a typical Sweet cum Fast food center in the ground floor. The very first 3-4 counters u can see on either sides once u enter are a wholesome spread of Indian sweets. As you move on a little inside you the chat & South Indian fast food counters right in your sight. In front of these counters towards the left you have the seating arrangement. Not spacious but I was told that the restaurant upstairs would start some time soon with a pure vegetarian menu.

Talking about the food which is the important thing to review:
I find this place an absolute garden of sweets. They were amazing(packed back home too) and chats were delicious too.I felt the South Indian stuff(Dosa, vada etc) was little overpriced and didn't justify in terms on taste.

All in all a typical Indian Sweetshop -Fast Food outlet.Good on taste and little heavy on pocket."Over all Justified" considering their repute in India & internationally for hygiene and quality.
