thai? umm, not quite!

well, we went in here to try thai food as thats what it said on their advertisements. but the only thai dish they had on their menu was not available, so we had to end up with the usual chinese. now, as far as chinese goes, I wouldn't say their food is bad... but wen it comes to chinese, one is spoilt for choice in restaurants, and this place doesn't offer you anything special. the only exception was this orange chicken dish, an experiment that paid off...

your food might come with cockroaches!!

You get what you pay for...real bad food--unhygienic waiters with greasy hair and dirty nails. I even saw cockroaches crawling around! this is 3 weeks ago and every time I come to burrp to look up for yummy food and see The Grand Wok at the top of the list, I feel like throwing up! Yuckity yuck!

Value for money!!!

If you are looking for a good chinese restaurant in Hyderabad, The Grand Wok is the place. Best Chinese food in the city, especially vegetarian food.
I am not really sure about non-veg since I did not taste any, but my wife has a moderate feedback about non-veg items.
Not just the taste, the quantity is good and is certainly VALUE FOR MONEY.
Ambience is decent and the service is relatively faster, probably because of the less number of customers on the day I went during the week days (Wednesday).
I recommend The Grand Wok if you are really looking out for a very good vegetarian dining experience.

Shrimp dimsum instead of steamed dimsum

What started off as a pleasant evening turned out into a bizarre nightmare at the Grand Wok. We ordered a soup, a starter and a steamed vegetarian dimsum (the menu card mentioned that the dimsums could either be steamed or pan-fried). While the soup and the starter came after 20 mins, we had to request for the dimsums a couple of times. After 45 mins, we were served the dimsum. While the waiter was serving the dish, my ever cautious husband specifically asked him if the dimsums were vegetarian and we got a heavy nod from him. But to our horror, after a couple of bites, we realized that something was very off. When we asked the manager, he responded that they were indeed the 'shrimp' dimsums we ordered. He had mistaken 'steamed' for 'shrimp'!! We had to infact point out the word 'steamed' on the menu card to make him realize that was what we ordered. After rejecting the dish, we paid up and left... The staff can barely speak English and training these (Chinese?) staff in understanding the language is the first thing that the Grand Wok should do.... As a vegetarian, this experience left a bad taste (literally!) in my mouth and I shall never visit this place again

Going Downhill...

Well, am visiting this place for almost an year now... in regular intervals. And am sad to say, that the Grand Wok is just not the same it used to be an year ago. I still believe though that the 'Buffet on ur table' is a great concept... There used 2 be 2 kinds of buffets - 299 and 399 (without/with a beer pint) during lunch. The 399 is no longer there and thats disappointing for peop;e who love to have a beer with their meals. We ( a group of 4) went there last sunday for dinner.. First shock.. the 1st floor is not operational..and we had to sit on the ground floor.. The ambience in the ground floor is no match to the 1st floor, specially the private room they had. On inquiring, we found out that the AC was not working in the 1st floor... what a bad excuse for a restaurant on a sunday night. The next thing was that we can just choose our soups and not the starters. Previously we had the option to choose 3 veg and 3 non veg starters from the menu. Also, there were some complex clauses like.. u can choose only one from seafood or fish or lamb , and the rest 2 will be chicken in the non veg starters. On asking for the manager, he replied that he's not sure about the process which was earlier, so he could not help. But finally we bargained for 1 fsh , 1 prawn and a chicken...Also, there was a veggie in our group and she had to wait, like for eternity to get a repeat for her starters. Coming to the food - Soup was good....Starters were really good.... The Fried prawns and Chilly fish were to die for, but what I hated was the Chicken pakora (with bone...) . The veg dishes were fine 2.. like the potato wedges , mix veg fry... but why on earth...the gobi manchurian...? The main course was typically ok... u can say, kinda bland too... Veg rice , noodles , a veg gravy..and a chicken gravy...when we asked the waiter what dish it was... all he could mumble was "Chicken..." Desserts ... we dint have much choice... its the same old vanilla ice cream with Darshan... I had to ask for some honey/chocolate sauce separately. Overall, it's really sad to see a place like "The Grand Wok" going downhill.... Used to Luv the place...

the best dimsum in hyderabad

in a city like hyd its very difficult to get decent and tasty tibetan food unlike delhi or calcutta . in hyd there are very few places that serve- momos or dimsum as u can call it . or even dumplings

the grand wok has excellent dimsum for that matter . and for a very reasonable price. the ambience is pleasant . the pace is never crowded , excellent location and parking is great

very friendly staff and i would say that only thing that dissapoints my dining experience is the wobbly metal staircase !

Not a Happening Place

Great Food, Great Prices

These guys have buffets for lunch and dinner on all days of the week, and the food is just mouth watering.

The manager arranged for a private room for my birthday and it was really cool.

This place is real value for money, for a regular dinner buffet we got 6 starters(3veg and 3 Non Veg) and Main course includes Rice/Noodles(Veg/Non Veg) and 1 Veg and 1 Non Veg Curry.

Edit: I forgot, they also have a free soft drink and soups(Veg/Non Veg).

I really liked the place and will go there often.

They have a discount coupon on their Google Place Page, you can find it by searching for "The Grand Wok" in Google.

Sweet Place Man.

Useless & Annoying

I have been here twice and this restaurant is miserable place to be. Firstly talking about ambience ( Nothing Special). Employees doesnt know proper language ( Except thank you & Sorry ) no proper attention to customers given.
Now talking about food however here also it falls short. Food served was not even tasty and hot, When asked management says it is served in same style ( Dont know which style ). Takes lots of time to deliver the food Mean time between the breaks you can go out play cricket match and come back.
Jokes Apart My mood was screwed, Money and all my hunger was screwed.

All in All customers here are taken for granted. I strongly belive all these positive reviews are either Fake or buyed(lol).

Suggestion:- Please never be to this restaurant its like a nightmare scary movie.

This place WILL NEVER BE the option

after reading so many reviews and immediate response from the management we were again trapped last night . we were a team of dozen plus people at a team outing. Booked well in advance. after reaching the place, to our surprise the manager did not even know which table is reserved for whom .
2. NO AC. after asking , they switched it on.
3. It took 30mnts to get the soup and no water being served.
4.starters have come after finishing the soup, another 30mnts later. Menu has 3 veg starters. it took more than an hour for serving 2 starters. we were wondering where is the 3rd one. after we asking , they served the third one. By the the time we finished our starters it was 9:30PM. guess what time we entered ???? 7:30PM.
5. By the time we have come to our main course, people who have come with us have already left. they took another hour to serve main course. 15 mnts gap b/w veg and Nonveg. Nothing is atleast warm .
6. non of the deserts are available. only venilla icecream. since we are getting late we asked to get bill along with with the ice cream. but bill came first.
7. service is really BAD. they touch the food before they serve on u r plate. Ambiance is really bad. person was sweating all the time when he was serving. forget about the hygienic food.
8. Finally Food...such food u get in any fast food center......

FINALLY DONT GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...its does not worth atleast visiting once.

Good Value for Money

Been here yesterday for lunch and selected Rs.299 buffet which includes more than enough veg and non-veg items for ones tummy. Menu goes likes this: soup as per your selection, almost 6 starters are served, 3 main course items are there, one soft drink and some nice desserts are there to complete your buffet. I liked the fired ice cream very much from them. If you want to sip some beer they are serving alcohols, cocktails and mocktails separately. You can choose your food from ala carte if you don't want to go with buffet package. Chinese ambiance allover the place was so nice along the Chinese music playing there, nice hospitality and very fast service. Overall a very good place to enjoy some Chinese food and value for every buck you pay. I would love to go there again.

5 star service...hats off to you guys

Sorry for writing this review late! I should have written this long back.

I am a person who is finicky about quality of food and mostly the service in restaurants. I have read reviews about this place at burrp and wanted to try it out for my son's birthday.

As most of my family friends are from Notheast, everyone likes chinese. I made reservations earlier and was there for lunch (August 1). We were around 10 people and I was amazed by the service from the moment we reached there. The staff (as written by another reviewer) is well trained and very courteous. We had brought a cake and the moment we reached there one guy took the cake from me to keep it in the fridge. We had forgot to bring candles and to my surprise they arranged for it free of cost. They gave us the first floor sitting and we had a great time there.

The second surprise was when they arranged for the cake cutting in the middle of first floor. They arranged for small dessert plates and spoons and also played the Happy Birthday song (this was all for free :)).

The food was yummy. I like authentic chinese and not the Indianized one. I found it very close to authentic chinese. I can go on talking about this place...but one thing which all readers should know is about the 5 star service.

Where in Hyderabad do you find a place where you can eat peacefully without having to take care/keep an eye on your toddler. When the staff saw that we were having a tough time eating with kids around us, they took them to play at the groundfloor. The manager (sorry didn't ask her name) and some other waiters kept the kids busy by playing with them so that we can have food peacefully. This is 5 star service guys...one that you find in few star hotels in the country.

I am happy that I decided to spend my son's birthday at this place! Keep it up Grand Wok!

Nice concept and above average food--Almost VFM !!

A couple of days ago me and Mom decided to scale the great wall of china to see what is yonder.

Decided to head to " The Grand Wok" in Rd.No.1, Banjara Hills

It was a pleasant surprise to see an empty parking which you can do it self. I didnt see any valet when i arrived at around 9pm

Nice and pleasant decor but, saw the restuarant was empty. Only 3 table were occupied. Why?

For dinner there are 2 buffets available ( 299++ and 399++) and we opted for the former as the later included 1 Pint or 1 Mocktail FREE.

Nice to enjoy the unique place of getting buffet served on table

Veg Manchow Soup : Mom went ga-ga over it

Chicken Hunan Soup : Thick and loaded with juicy pieces of chicken

3 Veg Starters
Crispy round balls dipped in honey : Crispy and nice taste
Crispy Potato wedges : Mom loved this. I found it a bit bland but good taste.
Veg Manchuria : Delicious

3 Nov-Veg Starters
Chicken Drums of Heaven : Average taste. Not good and not bad either
Red Chilly Sliced Fish : Absolutely delectable. I had it as snack as well as asked for more with main course
Chilly Chicken ( Boneless) : Spicy and lovely

Main Course
Veg Fried Rice : Slightly uncooked rice, bland. It was average
Schezwan Veg Noodles : Very good
Veg Curry : Loaded with fresh veggies, mom liked it so much she normally eats in a balanced way went overboard.
Chicken curry in some sauce : Superb

Dessert
Vanilla Ice-cream with Darsaan : Delicious

We ordered refills for everything and also ordered a Thumbs-up

This meal was fit for a chinese king. Really good and service was pleasant, courteous and fast. It was a good surprise to see they didnt charge for the Thumbs up.

Total Damages : Rs.684 for a meal for two. Wish they included the pint/mocktail in 299++ and it would have been total VFM

We are a group of 15-20 online friends who meet for dinners almost twice a month. I told our group that we will do a dinner meet in Grand Wok in Nov'10. Hope we get similar taste and service then.

OVER RATED....

Dont get carried away by innumerable reviews about this restaurant..
Later you feel repented and disappointed for choosing this place on the basis of these reviews...
There is nothing great to rave about this place...

Average Ambience, Confusing Buffet Concept, Mediocre Service and Bland Food...
spoiled my entire mood of dining...

They served cola without any fizz (gas) as a complimentary drink..can we expect cola without fizz?..so it tasted juss like "GULLI KA COLOUR SODA"..later arrived the steward and explained the concept of buffet in chinese accent of english which i did'nt understand at 1st instance, nobody served us water and after repeated requests they showed mercy and filled my glass with water, they switched off ac sharply by thier closing hours caring a damn for the customers who are still savouring their food...

Veg starters are tasteless so as the main course..the only thing appealed to my taste buds was piping hot manchow soup and a scoop of ice cream which was served as a dessert..

A word of caution: Rest rooms are poorly maintained..they are very shabby and stinking..so enter at your own risk.

disappointed

after reading many reviews here i thought I try the wok, however I was disappointed. maybe because they had changed the buffet concept, instead of you taking the food from the buffet table they would bring and serve the pre fixed items from the menu, which was ok but I didn't know what I was getting. The main problem was that food didn't have the taste of a good authentic chinese cuisine and not only that all of the dish tasted same. And it was not worth 400 bucks.

Neither here not there ...

Had the 149 lunch yesterday 10Aug cheque#102385 table#11. Yes as someone mentioned too, was seated promptly and asked if it would be bottled or regular water. Regular for me which never arrived for a long long time..The Mr Capt (Karan I think) was so inarticulate that I had a tough time trying to decipher what language he spoke .. and understand my and (his!) predicament as he tried very hard to explain the the 'structure' of the 149. And when I had waved enough for water some charlie brings in a glass of water from the kitchen/pantry - it was clear that he was smoking in there. This chap can be identified as: spiked gelled hair, trousers tied so low that they could have fallen off, scowl on his face and walked around jerkily like a wind-up toy. Then soon these waiter types got into that individual / enclosed dining space and stared to scream joke and push each other for it was their fun time while the customers were trying to get attention.

Someone else had also mentioned that there could have been a written menu for the offering of the 'types of buffets' and I also remember Sasank acknowledge it as a good idea. Infact another customer close enough to me lost his cool as he could not be explained articulately what was incl and not in his 'buffet'. If there is such a written menu then I was not shown one.

Was told I could choose any soup from the menu - I asked for a lemon coriander (veg) - it took 25 minutes to arrive and looked and tasted like some horrible thick hash of things - no lemon no coriander there - and I do know my lemon coriander soup and its consistency. Some veg starter (fritter of types) was fairly good. The chkn wings quite rare from inside - bad. The egg noodles fair, the chicken curry quite an in-descriptive disaster and the mixed vegs - greasy. The dessert crispy noodles with i/c simple and average. I wanted a quick lunch on the fly but it took more than one hour.

I have no mathematical basis for deciding on the stars this gets - but all said and done 1.5 rounded to 2.0.

Thanks Sasank! But lets get some training to get your service staff to be able to communicate, some steps to supervise and improve the quality of food (I would think it could be more an issue of consistency, as some ppl hv rated food quite +ve), levels of service and some level headed senior person to check these wind-up-toy(s). And a quick lunch should not take 80 mins ... and yes, those written menus/offerings for the 'buffets' would be helpful. You may also want to consider a 5 pct SC so if a customer is satisfied he may want to pay more ... Good luck!!!!!!

Greate Chinese buffet, good value for money!

Have to say that for a Chinese buffet starting at 149/- it is a excellent value for money. Their is Soup, a starter, main course and a desert to finish off, that my friend is a wholesome meal.

And thanks Sasank for following up each review and for incorporating the suggestions, not may rest. owners are doing this @burrp, that shows your commitment and no surprises, Grand Wok is listed in city's best top 5.

Wholesome buffet

I had gone there for lunch last week along with my family. We were seated promptly and told that they serve the buffet on the table as per our wishes. There seemed to be two versions of the buffets- one around 250 and other 300. Since the second had a prawn dish, which we are very fond of, we opted for the latter.

The buffet menu had a choice of soup (Chicken lemon coriander/ chicken hot & sour soup), six starters (3 veg & 3 non-veg), and 2 main courses (1 veg and 1 non-veg) along with noodles & fried rice.

The highlights were the lemon coriander chicken soup, prawns singapore style, chilli pepper chicken & chicken drumsticks. The helpings were large and service prompt.

They had two choices of dessert- we opted for friend banana with ice cream.

We were fairly impressed with the spread as well as the service. There were some good veg dishes (crispy potato pepper, chef's special veg) too.

Overall a fine dining experience!

Charging for the service

Recently I had been to TGW and had dinner buffet. I liked the starters, but the mains were not good. Dessert is too small portion. The dinner buffet was written as 299 + taxes. But while billing we were charged also for the service, that is around 60 Rs. extra. This was not known before to us. I mean when we enquired on phone they said it is only 299 + taxes. I felt cheated. No where else I came across such thing as service charges. Though the food was good, the cheating part made us to determine not to visit this restaurant again.

Good experiece- Total Value

I had gone today with my family and tried the 299/- buffet. Let me commend the management in bringing such an package . The starters are absolutely wonderful and is the best part. Main course needs some punch like the normal ala carte dishes..they looked pale. Soup was quite good and plentiful, dessert was small but innovative. Let me also thank on making it complementary for kids. This is a positive. Just one thing about the bill, there was 10% amount billed as service, which on asking was told as service charges, and not what I thought ie service tax, did not understand this as this is not a std practice in restaurants

Hi Suman,

Thank you for such kind words and a pleasant feedback. We shall do our best to ensure that our main course also matches the high expectations that our starters are setting.

As I have already mentioned Kids are a part of the family and we adore them, so on the house for them! The serivce charge / taxes is for the service that is offered, hope that clears the confusion.

Hope to see you next time round!

The Grand Ambiguity

I hadn't planned on writing a review for my visit to TGW about 4 Sundays ago but after reading Anjan's review I feel I must.
My friend & I called and asked for the specifics of the Sunday Lunch buffet(at the table). We were told that it costs some Rs 279-299 (I dont remember the exact figure) and would include seafood and a whole variety of other things. It sounded like a veritable feast although the inclusions were somewhat foggy)
I'm going to break our experience down into numbered points for clarity :

1)Nice looking, large restaurant, and surprisingly enough, completely empty on a Sunday afternoon.

2)We were seated promptly and asked if we required bottled water.

3) Here's what we got to start off our meal :

- Chicken Sweet Corn Soup
- 3 Non-vegetarian starters & 3 vegetarian starters (Ambiguity 1 - a Prawn starter was served and I distinctly remember being told that seafood was part of the mains)

4) Now, the starters ranged from decent to very good and after a short break we asked for the main course. What we got is directly linked to ambiguity 2.

- Veg Noodles (Very, very bland & boring)
- Veg Fried Rice (Plain bad. As someone who has worked in professional kitchens it annoys me greatly when the rice is soggy, short grains cooked ostensibly by the absorption method and then chucked into a wok with some oil leading to a near gruel like concoction passed off as fried rice. Whatever happened to fluffy, long grained fried rice with lots of veggies , a pleasure to eat unaccompanied ????)
- Chicken in some sort of reddish brown sauce (Amateurish and unappetising)
- Vegetables in a whitish sauce (Hunan or Cantonese perhaps. Fresh vegetables but I might as have been eating hospital food. And no, I'm not some uncultured Hyderabadi with a palate desensitised by coarse red chilli powder.)

I'd mentally given this place a near 5 stars based on the quality of the starters as well as the speed at which they were served. The mains, however, made me deduct 2 stars immediately.

5) The dessert (why do the stewards keep mumbling about 4 deserts etc when clearly you get only one ??) was fried ice cream and it was extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY good. I asked for a second one (with a degree of trepidation about being charged separately for it).

6) Ambiguity 3 - The Soft Drink. Now I remember seeing a poster at the entrance touting a free drink. I was tempted to ask about it but didnt fancy getting some mumbled answer about inclusions and exclusions , so I let it slip. My question here is, are soft drinks supposed to be a part of the Sunday lunch or not ?

I'd visited TGW with a great deal of anticipation based on the predominantly positive reviews on Burrp. What I got was a disjointed dining(or should I say lunching?) experience with good starters, poor mains, great dessert and absent beverages.
I think perhaps a printed menu of the Table Buffet would make matters simpler, atleast for dolts like me who need to know what they're getting for their money.

Yesterday night we visited Grand Wok Restaurant and I must say it was indeed a fabulous experience , I have been staying in Hyderabad for the last 10 years and have visited many premium hotels owned by reputed Brands but yesterday’s experience was something different and I am sure my family will cherish this experience.

Let me now share our dining experience – We have asked for Buffet for 3 of us (myself, my wife and 7 yrs old Daughter),they have served us Sweet corn soup, 2 Chicken starters , 1 Prawn Starter , as the starters were little spicy we have requested them to check whether they can offer my daughter something non spicy like Golden Fried Prawn which they immediately brought exclusively for all of us, It was really nice to see that for the Buffet also they are ready to customize the foods.

We then ordered one Veg Fried Rice and one Veg Gravy item and one non-veg gravy item for our main course , the veg fried rice was good and my daughter liked it , even the Veg Gravy item tasted very good and the mushrooms were fresh.

Surprisingly our Service staffs offered us 2 Cokes and 1 Sprit which I am not sure whether you have in your regular buffet menu or not… It was a present surprise (I normally don’t order Cold drinks because of some health issues but anyway it was a welcome change).

Finally in the dessert we have got some Vanila Ice Cream which was good.

Now the real surprise came, when I got the cheque I saw they have charged for only 2 persons , when I enquired the service staff said they won’t charge for Kid which was really a surprise for me --- I must say this is awesome, we normally get this kind of treatment only in Marriot Buffet in Hyderabad.

Even we have got the valet parking which is definitely a plus point for this restaurant as most of the restaurants located in this area have horrible parking problem , so finally I give 5 out of 5 to Grand Wok and will visit once again very soon.

A Job well done!!!!!!

Anjan

Thank you for such kind words. I havent given any instructions to my folks yesterday regarding your visit as informed by you earlier. I wanted to test them if they were upto the litmus test and it feels great that they have come out with flying colors.

As you have already pointed out none of our buffet items are preprepared they are made in the same way as an alacarte order and each order is prepared keeping the customers perspective in mind.

We will visit Grand Wok tomorrow and will definitely post a detailed review after that.

They Wok the Talk..

I read the great reviews and the management responses (seldom have I seen mgmt. do that. Good job Sasank) and immediately wanted to try this place today. Me and a friend headed straight to The Grand Wok at 9pm today...

We were promptly lead to our seats with melodious Chinese music in the background.
@ Sasank: It suddenly changed to Spanish guitar strings and it ruined the whole Chinese feel (just when i was complaining about it to my friend - it changes back to Chinese, what a relief) . Would be nice if you continued to play Chinese throughout
The ambiance is good and the chairs and tables well crafted..
@ Sasank: just the sofas to the walls are little low to comfortably seat and eat from the table.

Menus were given to us, but I remembered the buffet details from Sasank on the previous post and promptly asked them for the details. 299/- plus taxes works out to approx. 342/- per head. Here is what we had
1 soup - Cantonese chicken - was so yummy we couldn't resist but wanted to save some space for the starters
@Sasank: our live starters were ready - a small cockroach and tiny houseflies, i managed to flick it with the chopstick far away from the table (kindly do pest control)
3 veg starters - crispy potato in spicy red sauce dry, crispy fried vegetables, veg Manchurian in green chilly sauce
2 chicken starters - chicken drumstick and chilly chicken dry
1 seafood starter - (choice between fish or prawns)
@Sasank: I wanted prawns and my friend wanted fish. I don't know if this is not to be... coz the server went back and forth confusing me and confusing himself or rather hesitating to serve us differently.
I would like some Clarity on this, can two people having buffet not choose what they want to eat?

We we so stuffed at that point that we couldn't get into the main course - fried rice, noodles, chow mein with veg gravy and chicken gravy
@Sasank: This swept us off our feet!!!. we actually got some good quantity of the main course packed to take home. Thanks to the courteous staff

Dessert - plain vanilla ice cream over some wheat crispies glazed in sugar syrup and sesame

Just for this unique serviceof the buffet to your table, hot, fresh and tasty food, affordable cost , super value for money, and the great feeling of satisfaction
I would go here again and again..

@Sasank: would be nice if you can take these pointer and improve upon them.

I rely on burrp to help me find quality dining experiences. And needless to say I am pretty happy with the Grand Wok that I picked from here last week. Food needless to say is fab (as has been pointed out before) and I do hope that they maintain the same quality and consistency in days to come. Add to that the top notch customer service and you have a surefire winner. Kudos to the chef and team and the services staff. One grouse though, how about opening an outlet near the Hitec city area where there is a dearth of good eating joints ;)

Once again I would like to mention that all our service staff members have undergone 2 month intensive training and it feels great to know that it has paid off. And as far as the chef is concerned he is from Hilton Dubai and kudos to him and his team for coming together with such wonderful dishes at the Grand Wok. I shall pass

Great place

Went there with a few co-workers after reading the reviews on burrp!. Definitely as good as advertised. Good food, great service and terrific value. We ordered the buffet - which is actually served at your table. The buffet starts with appetizers, then the main course and it ends with a dessert. The main course was solid, but the highlight were the appetizers - excellent!

Hi Hyderabad Hyena,

It feels really great to hear when a customer says that food at the restro is value priced! And I am very glad that you like the food and the service along with the pricing of the buffet.

We wanted to avoid rush at the counters and also maintain the hygenic nature at the food and as reason avoided the buffet counter. By this every buffet order is prepared in the same way as an alacarte order and this ensures the quality of the food unlike the buffet counters where the food becomes cold and soggy. Glad that

Chinese With A Twist

One must indeed highly compliment the owner, Sasank Narravula for the fine dining establishment that is the Grand Wok. Located in an area (Banjara Hills) well known for its abundance of great eateries, the Grand Wok manages to stand out for its fantastic ambiance, extraordinary service and fabulous value for money. And of course the food is amazing - the Wok manages to bring freshness to the jaded category of Chinese khana. The must try items on the menu include the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Steamed Bamboo Rice, Lemon Chicken and Fried Ice Cream for dessert. Don't miss their unbelievably affordable weekday buffet starting at 149!

I am not sure if you were there for the lunch buffet or the dinner buffet. Since the lunch buffet is priced at 149 it becomes highly difficult for us to offer sea food at that price. However we shall see the best we can to fit this in the 149 buffet.

Very Nice Spicy Pepper Chicken

I never visited any chinese restaurant staying in hyderabad for a long time(5 Years). Yesterday we went to Grand Wok with my team members and we enjoyed eating Non Veg soup, starters and the main course.Specially I have to say about coriander chicken soup with lemon and pepper chicken. All the varieties served are good. This is second we went in the lunch time and the items served are different from the first visit and are very tasty tempting to visit again with family or friends.

Hotel ambience is nice with chinese art work, hangings and acquarium, waiters are good and responded well.

One suggestion is, will be nice if the main course fried rice and desert at the last are changed with biryani and other deserts instead of serving the same on all days. You can rotate the main course also.
OVER ALL I LIKED THE FOOD VERY MUCH.

Great experience

Visited The Grand Wok for the first time, last evening and would say wasnt dissapointed reading the other burrp-ers' reviews.
Its a nice cozy Chinese Bistro with a very decent staff on the floor (a rarity, I might as well add).
The ambience, though not flashy, is decent and the food was quite delectable.
We tried a veg soup which was nice, even relished by my lil toddler. And the diced chicken in black bean sauce was great too. The noodles were exactly like ordered, light and not oily at all.
The only grouse(s) if I might say is that I missed a chilled beer to go with the excellent food. (Guys, get a liquor license soon).
And, the experience with the valet out side the building (Alcazar plaza valet, coz they dont have separate valet for each eatery) was horrible.

Very hungry its not the place for you

I stepped into Grand wok when i had ample time and not really hungry, only 2-3 tables were occupied (staff were relatively free). i ordered, waited, waited and started feeling hungry! before i called the staff and enquired. the guys at the table occupied by the time i stepped in started yelling at the staff about the same...finally the food is served and it was a complete disappointment (i told the same to our steward). In my opinion is not a place worth its wait!
Ambience and theme: 2 out of 5, something can be done to block that view of the generator outside!!

Good Food

During weekend after hectic shopping we went to this place(I already read reviews). We were early by 7pm, staffs were attentive and they even asked us if we liked the Food. I always go for safe food (no experiments) in Chinese place. But to my surprise, the food was good and spicy. Soups - 4/5 Lettuce wrapped chicken - 5/5 and Singapore Fried rice 5/5. Quantity was more than sufficient. Quality - Thumps UP from us.. Ohh yea Ambience - Good !!

Good but not the best

Food -4/5
Ambiance - 4/5
Service - 2/5

First day of the year I planned to treat ourselves in this much reviewed chinese joint.

We reached little above 2:30 in the afternoon and it was stark empty apart from a couple which was a shocker being a day off for most of the office goers and being acclaimed as a popular joint.

Anyways, we seated ourselves in a corner and quickly went through various menu options and our stomachs were empty with 31st night out with just liquor.

We quickly decided on some chinese populars but the menu seemed very lack of options. I was aware of the few common dishes which I ordered. Chicken in black bean sauce, Chicken Grand Wok fried rice and fried corn and crispy baby corns in starters.

Service was fast enough but here came the twist. The service was too fast after the first serving. With the starters still in plate the waiter was too impatient to serve everything at one go. I had to remind him quite a few times that we are still not done with the starters. Inquisitive about his rapidness I quizzed him if they are gong to down the shutter for the day. Only then I came to know that we had reached a little late for lunch and they just want to wrap it up and start preparing for dinner guests. I was amused and offended and it felt like we are eating it without being charged.

I will not deny them the 3 stars as the food was good and so was the ambiance. If they have to sustain they should start treating every guest equally.

Authentic Dim Sum

There are many places to eat Dim Sum in Hyderabad and there have been for at least as long as my friends & I used to drive in search of new joints weekend for Sunday Dim Sums.

Grand Wok is perhaps one of the more dressed up Chinese restaurant establishments in Hyderabad and as well as Dim Sum it does serve a full "A La Carte" menu with authentic dishes.
Dim Sum here is fresh and as quick as it should be and all the standard six or seven dishes you might order for Dim Sum are great. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Worth a Saturday or Sunday visit with a very reasonable priced menu and good service

Authentic Chinese Again

Well, I am rating it 4/5 in overall experience, because it does not have a really great ambience. But that reflects in the lower price that you pay for food..800-900 for 2 with starters, main course and dessert...
I liked the waiters, who are very nice people...they will explain you the dish, how it would finally taste..allows room for some customization..etc etc...
No suggestion on the food..everything is good!!

Great Chinsese fusion food

Elegant and unpretentious, this Chinese restaurant holds claim as one of Hyderabad's best.

The Grand Wok offers an impressive menu. All the favorites are included, with chicken taipei, Chicken lettuce wraps and wok seared lamb topping the list of must-haves. Every dish is satisfying, particularly the more exotic items like bamboo rice--Orange peel chicken; Shanghai prawns; and red snapper with honey chilli sauce, devil chicken and manchow fried rice. For dessert, fried ice cream or a spot of jasmine tea make the perfect palate cleanser.

Very average.

We wanted to try out a new place so we went to Grand wok. There was a party going on upstairs so it was really noisy and we had to sit downstairs at a table next to the rest room!
The soups and mocktails took forever to come and we had to ask for them repeatedly. The starters were very spicy. The main course items like the noodles and rice were ok and the ambience wasn't anything great.
Definately wont be going back.

Chinese food ?

The place has few chinese replicas to give it a chinki feel. Has a aquarium too with goldfishes instead of koi fishes !. Anyways ordered a soup, starter, and main course to go with.
Found a worm in the soup and returned it :(. The chef kindly provided us with a free desert instead of the soup. yay !!!
Starter was decent, and the devils chicken was super spicy. Overall the food just did not felt that authentic.

good food

reading so many good reviews on burrp... was excited to go there. ambience is decent, cud have been better.
3 stars for the food. the chilli garlic noodles were good, but no much trace of chilli....
curry was good and so was the soup. the mushroom starter was extremely good and totally worth the price.

the tables needs immediate attention. no stability and one needs to be very cautious throughout to make sure he/she does not put weight or else it will topple. thats not good. you cannot expect a customer to sit without moving at all.

Doesnt "look" Chinese thats all!

In a nutshell:

food = 5/5 = Starter, noodles, soups, and mocktails. All were very good. no complaints whatsoever.

service = 5/5
Fast. we were waited on properly. We might've had few communication issues with the waiters but the captains took care of that.
Apart from the hostess, others dint smile at all!! hmmmm.... anyways... its still 5/5

Ambience = 3.
doesnt have the chinese "look". no decorations, no red chinese lanterns, no cardboard cutouts, no danglers or stringers. and nothing which "looks" thai either. the rest room is right there in the middle. i mean.. doesnt have a lobby or even wooden shoji screens - something must be done abt that.

presentation= not bad.
price = 5/5

more later after my second visit.

Oriental Surprise

Having eaten in often chinese restaurants , and bundis and cafeterias with chinese food I had my lot.I must admit not too fond of chinese cuisine either , preferring rather good desi food. After lounging in Crosswords one afternoon , and feeling real hungry I just walked into this place that's opposite to City Center as I remembered a friend of mine recommending it strongly to me.Apprehensive at first but i was swept off my feet when the first appetizers came in flat 10mins, i was stunned. That's the 2nd fastest service i ever got ( 1st being ordering my mom from the dining hall ;)) So then sizzlers started puring in and i couldn't stop. Suddenly i rem i need space for main course too.2nd surprise was the chicken soup (not a fan od soups either) but my god i couldn't stop having this one too. By the time actual dishes came , i was feeling bloated. The dessert though simple was also a nice one. Plain vanilla with some sugar coated cornflakes(don't know the culinary name for it but reminded me very much of indian shakkarpara as in marathi or gujia) Overall food was good, waiters very nice and genuinely smiling too (surprise-surprise). Ambience soothing. As i was alone so i had a nice chat with a waiter about the food , his home back in nepal and the likes. Nice and freindly. The cherry on top ? Very economical !! :) Take friends - family- and boss over their and have a nice time.
