South Goa has plenty of budget food and scenic views.
South Goa’s charm lies in its quieter, pristine beaches. So on a weekend, there’s no better place to be at. Travelling, especially by cab can cost a bomb, so why not save on food? We give you a list of budget eateries to satisfy your hunger.

One of the most famous eateries in South Goa, Aj’s has become a landmark. Go here for their Hot-n-Spicy Chicken Wings and wash them down with a refreshing Lemon Ice Tea. And, end your meal on a sweet note with their Banoffee Pie. AJ’s home delivers around the south for free.

Live Lounge is a good option for those who want to spend a Saturday night unwinding over good food, a few drinks, and some indie music. The dining area isn’t much of a lounge, but it has dark wooden furniture and dim lights that set the mood. The concerts are open to all and to compliment the music, we recommend Goan Sausage Chilly Fry and Jalapeno Balls.

When you see a restaurant full of locals, you know you have made the right choice. The no-frills restaurant wears bare walls, has a few tables and waiters serving hot food quickly. The place is packed during lunch with people ordering their Fish Thali; that with a chilled beer and you got yourself the perfect meal. Their Batter Fried Calamari too is worth a try.

The owner, Raj, swears that this is the apt haunt for a backpacker. The restaurant is shack-styled on the outside but is cozy on the inside with soft lighting and comfortable seating. The food is cheap, the alcohol cheaper and the memories are priceless. Drop by for an authentic Goan seafood or pork meal served under the shade of coconut trees.

Authentic North Indian food can come cheap in Goa and it does, at Tavir. Located in the heart of Margao, at one glance it may come across as a fine-dine restaurant with classy interiors, decorative wooden panels and soft lighting but don’t let the looks fool you. The Shammi Kebabs and Paneer Makhanwalla come highly recommended.

If you don’t want to get out of the house, order in from Sharda Classic. The restaurant looks simple with a few tables and has cream-coloured walls. The restaurant serves Goan, Indian and Chinese, and we recommend the Crispy Chicken and Triple Chicken Fried Rice. They also deliver soft drinks to give you a complete meal without having to leave the comfort of your home.

Your search for the biggest and meanest burgers ends here. Cherry Tomato’s burgers are massive and are a challenge to finish. The Double Crab Burger and their Zombie Burger have earned the reputation of being impossible to finish, so much so that the owner made them a smaller to avoid wastage, but they are still pretty huge. The funky chequered flooring and pink lights add to the fun of dining here.
