Best place for midnight dessert and coffee

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. This is my husband's and my favorite night out joint. We go there regularly for late night dessert cravings and coffee. Service is excellent. The coffee is perfect. Just tried their full breakfast once and it wasn't the best I have eaten. The breakfast could be better.

Do not bother

The only attractive thing about Aromas is the location and the fact that they have a bar license.
The last time I went (early April), I was given the wrong dish after a good 40 minute wait- I didnt let them replace my dish because I couldnt wait another 40 minutes. My friend got a watered down Thai green curry without the extra spices she asked for and was promised.
The time before that, the chicken satay was dry and way too sweet. The rest of the food was middling.
The time before that, the pizza came cold.
Before that ...

Let's just say that the decor and the location location location are what is keeping Aromas active. Or maybe they count on the same people not coming back.
The wait staff is pleasant but need to up their game with the actual service.
Aromas could also do with some new tables since the 2 tables I like (for their position) are wobbly.
Will I go back- yes, but then only when someone new says "ooo, lets get something close to work."

Arrrgh! Rude Waiters and Managers.

This is one of the busiest places in Powai because of the location and is possibly the reason that they just don't care for customers.

Have been here quite a few times but have finally given up on it because of the really rude waiters and even the managers. The service at this place has always been pathetic, with little or no hope for improvement.

The food is pedestrian and inconsistent. This is the place to go to if you like your chilli cheese toast.

The beer is not too expensive though, and should be the correct choice as the coffee is honestly quite awful.

The seating is jam packed and uncomfortable.

All in all.. avoid....walk next doors to Star Bucks...much better sandwiches and ambience.

Awesome Food!

We have had a different dishes at this place. Every time, without fail, they have impressed us with the taste.

Would definitely recommend the breakfast options - especially scrambled eggs. Have had them all over, and this place remains as one of the favorites.

They also cook up some mean pizzas too!

Couple it with good ambiance, excellent service and you have a winner!

Slow service.. a turn off !!

As my workplace had shifted to Powai, being new to the area, I was introduced to this cafe by one of my friend.

As we sat, none of the waiters really came to our table for the next 10 to 15 mins. This was really weird. Soon after, one of them came up to the table with the menus. With the lapse in service already witnessed in the beginning, din't real expect much from the cafe.

To start with we ordered Nachos with cheese and green apple sodas and beers. It took a while for the drinks and nachos took ages. This was followed by a chicken pizza and mushroom pesto sandwich.

Food is good and although the service is slow, rather very slow, the courteous staff makes up for the lapse.

Good food. Would definitely visit again

Cafe aromas is located at a very good spot - opposite DMART right on the main road. It plays western music and is a perfect place to meet up with someone and relax and talk. Food is good ( especially the risotto and pasta) and so are the desserts. They have a good selection for breakfast items as well (English breakfast - sausages, scrambled eggs, etc). Definitely a place worth visiting

Refreshing!

I had to meet a friend at powai and didn't want to see her at one of the fast paced noisy coffee shops that are around, so we decided to meet at the aromas cafe, which we thought would be different and it was :-) so while its menu had most of the coffee shop kinda items like sandwiches, lattes and pizzas, it had an interesting selection of appetizers and main courses as well. With tables interspersed at a comfortable distance from one another and soft music in the background, it was a perfect setting for our casual evening. Neither we nor were the staff in a hurry to have us leave and we took our own sweet time, as one is supposed to in a cafe :-)

Go with a book and have a Coffee.

I was there twice, once to have only coffee and second time for Lunch.
Service is satisfactory and food was average(on better side).
Must try is there sandwiches which they call "Between the breads" specially the Charcoal grilled ones.
Coffee is average but the best part is the sitting in open. One will have a nice time spending with a cup of coffee and a novel.

Difficult to Slot

There are some food joints which do most of the things right. The way that the servers move and the spread of dishes can give you the "optimum" feeling at a glance. Aromas is one of those Joints.

Aromas is a joint of extremes. The food is either very good or very ordinary. However what is exceptional is the ambiance and the fact that it opens till 1am and you can order food till 12 am. That is good. The sitting is mostly on sofa chairs which are very comfortable. The place is tastefully decorated and makes you think about what cafe coffee day could have been. The servers are polite and attentive. You can see that customer satisfaction is valued highly in there.

Aromas is a 30 year old austrailian coffee chain. I guess it opened in powai in 2009 and has since expanded to ghatkopar and thane as well.

I have tasted the best chocolate shake in aromas - i can safely make that statement. They have 2 french chocolate shakes one which is cherry and another which is peppermint. I tried both and my personal favorite was the cherry one. The french chocolate flavor is distinct and rich. It does not taste like regular chocolate or cake or anything but lifts it beyond. Its worth the 170 bucks its charged for and i would gladly pay over 200 for it.

We also ordered the green apple lemonade which turned out to be completely flat and had to be reordered , the replacement was good but they could have added some more lime juice.

The garlic bread crisps are another dish to be had . They are oval shaped, crisp and lightly herbed with chilly . I found them to be better than garlic bread with cheese which you find at many places( except of course oven fresh). The roasted vegetable bruschetta is also good .Its topped with braised zuccini and jalapenos , however the cheese on top doesn't go well, i reckon a drizzle of olive oil would have sealed the deal much better.

We also had the Thai green curry which is not a part of the menu but is displayed on the table top as a specialty. The flavors of basil and coconut are intense . The only thing amiss is the fact that the color is sketch pen fluorescent green which makes you wonder why....also the portion size is slightly small. i could also do with a better quality of rice.

The disappointment was the pasta - Arrabiata Veg. My eternal struggle for a good pasta continues. Aromas left me high and dry. It was sour ...very sour and slightly under cooked....we could not finish the pasta.

For opening up till very late and giving exceptional service and good food i would rate aromas as good....i did not have the coffee but i am sure it must be good....ill review it again ....

Breakfast time gets better

Was looking to make a weekday breakfast memorable....and Aromas Cafe was an absolutely correct destination. You will be pleased the moment you enter...and the food just makes the experience better. Thumbs up for Aromas Cafe. Already planning for my next visit there.

Good Enough

Was looking for a place to have mid night coffee, and this is the first option that popped in my mind.

Reached here at 11.45 pm and it was buzzing with people. Found a corner seat and was given a menu after 10 minutes after asking 3 times. The service was really slow in the start, but then picked up. The menu was extensive ranging from quick bites, sandwiches, hot n cold coffees, mocktails, wines, main course and desserts!

We ordered vegetable in peri peri- which was exotic vegetables done in peri peri sauce. It was suppose to be spicy, but it was not. The taste was quite good though
Iced dark chocolate coffee- in which they ran out of cherry syrup. It was mostly whipped cream. It was okay-ish,
Iced caramelatte- this was very very good. Recommended.
Mudpie with vanilla ice cream. Loved the presentation and the flavor. My new favorite here! :)

Total damage for 4 items was close to 800 bucks. Really like the place for its atmosphere and ambiance. The service picked up after the initial hiccup.

Not so great Breakfast experience...

Have been to this place earlier for lunch and have always had a great time... However, this time planned to visit there again on a Sunday for breakfast... the weather was great with it raining and being at the heart of Hiranandani, Powai, the view outside was perfect...was yearning for Scrambled eggs, so ordered Akuri on Toast ... Surprisingly and rather shockingly, what i got was bread toast with egg burji... was average and not really filling...the french toast ordered was great though... overall a not so great breakfast...

Absolutely unwelcoming staff

I go to this place few times a week. Sometimes for a coffee sometimes for breakfast. I must say that never and I mean never I felt welcomed. Sad sad experience every time. The staff in ignorant and unpleasant. Today for instance I am having my tea, still half cup full, I paid the bill 2 minutes ago and the waiter comes and ask me to take away my drink. In spite not finished and I am not getting ready to leave. Rudeness in every way!

Better go to Starbucks always friendly and smiling people. And the coffee is better also!

Mouthwatering Pastas

This is my second review for Aromas Cafe. I am quite a regular at this place and every time I come here its always pleasant. The crowd is good and so is the atmosphere here.

The ambiance is ever inviting and comforting. The lighting is decent and the cozy tables can seat a set of friends having a good time or a solo diner sitting with book.

Staff is great and so is the service. It is a bit slow at times but it doesn't matter because you happen to get a laid back feeling once you get here.

Coming to the food, whatever dish I have tried here is really delicious. I must appreciate their chef for being consistent. I find their pastas simply superb in terms of taste and texture whether it is made in red type of/arabiatta sauce or white/cream sauce. Even their tomato and basil soup tastes good. Other stuff on the menu is just as good but I felt like mentioning these two items since I like them best.

I would never say no to go to Aromas whenever anyone asks me because it has that special charm about it which hardly any cafe has I feel. I truly appreciate the management for keeping it simple yet classy enough.

Terrible Service ...

The first experience was terrible here ... on Sunday afternnon for lunch with a colleague. The place was quite full and they just dont know how to manage the crowds. The waiter came and told us there will be a 45 mins+ delay in getting food ... ridiculous in a cafe. We ordered Pizza's and a pasta much to the irritation of the waiter who insisted coming back after 30 mins to take the order after we were seated. he came back after 20 mins offering us an omlette or something that was ready !!! We were just pissed off and asked him if he wants us to leave ...

The pizza here is good and the only saving grace. Boring place to visit in the evening for beer with friends ... as its quiet & empty on a weekday when there is a 30 mins waiting at Chillies next door.

Ambience ruined by arrogant staff!

Aromas has been in Powai for some time now. And after shutting down of mocha and similar places, its one of the very few options left for residents of Powai to hang out. So you might think nothing much can go wrong with Aromas, with little competition around and busy Powai crowd desperately looking for a cool coffee shop,

So, Aromas does a good job with the decor. You can either sit on the couch or on the chairs, the whole place demarcated to provide both a lounge experience as well as coffee shop experience. Music is not very loud, which is good. However, where decor score points, the staff ruins the experience completely.

The attitude of the staff makes you feel like that they are doing a big favour by letting you inside Aromas. You have to wait a long time before even someone asks you for a glass of water. After that, you have to face the arrogant staff, who thinks it is doing you a favour by serving you food. Many of the items on the menu are not available, due to some issue or another. And this would not be informed to you as soon as you place an order, but atleast 20-30 mins after the order has been placed. Apart from that, waiters seem to be hired from local gunda group, as they are ready to argue and demean you at drop of a hat.

And please, remove "home delivery" from your description, as Aromas do not provide that. Another case of false marketing (like Aromas menu card with large number of items unavailable)?

Aromas Always!

Aromas is the best that has happened to Powai. You can come here for an early morning breakfast or a lazy brunch or an evening of gupshup with your buddies. This is my understanding of a chilled out place over-looking the not-so-bombay-like Powai. I have been here plenty of times with no complains whatsoever.

The Australian brand symbolizes youthfulness and class with equal ease. The decor is neat and spaced out. Not over-crowded nor isolated. They have 2 sections - outer and the inner ac area (preferable). Both are fun areas although the outer area gets mucky during rains. The service has always been good, however; the only glitch is that the staff disappears every now and then and returns only after 10-15min. But if you just plan to chill here, you really wont mind the staff disappearances :P

The food is great. My regulars are Loaded Nachos (my best nachos), Cheesy Garlic Bread, Spicy fries, Bruschettas and Chicken Lasagne. In salads you must try Chef's Salad. The hot and cold coffees are a treat and also a better option than the tea's on the menu. They keep changing dessert options every once in a while and they are displayed at the glass counter and also as leaflets on every table. The best I've had here are the Blueberry cheesecake and Banana-Caramel cake *drool*

Cost-wise it matches the brand. A brunch for 2 could be anywhere between Rs 400-500. Plus they carry the Citibank Credit card discount, so works perfect for me!

Extremely slow service, poor customer care

Place looks good but the options in breakfast are limited. no fresh fruit juices. The service is extremely slow. When we asked for some extra mayo the waiter tells us they are instructed to serve extra mayo only upto 3-4 times. But we ordered like some 5 sandwiches, 2 burgers and pancakes. So, that cap should change depending on the amount of order. Isn't it ? One guy asking for extra mayo 4 times is wrong but what if 7 people ask for it 5 times. Is that too much too

Visit when you want to lay back & enjoy

Visited this deli on the insistence of 2 colleagues who had liked their cookies served with the coffee.
So we ordered Jalapeno Nuggets - special mention to the accompanying dip & Loaded Nachos.
Ordered Vanilla Latte,Cappucino & caramel cappucino.Must say the CC lacked the sweetness usually associated with it.
THe ambience is what would keep pulling people back to this place.
Though it was crowded ,the service was prompt.

This is not a typical coffee shop, its got all kinda things a cafe would have and more! With a very laid back ambiance, you can definitely unwind at the end of the day or simply have great time with friends.

The service is a bit slow, but if you're not in a hurry then no issues. Food is good though priced on a little higher side.

What is wrong ?? Aromas must address these issues

First thing first, a management representative is replying to all feedbacks and issues and does not wish to be identified !! WOW ! god knows where he is trained and given this humongous responsibility to deal with the sensitive job of Client communications and corp com. This is the platform that could actually make or break the reputation unlike the critics in the west who actually decide how good or bad the eatery is.

I am listing some of the issues apart from what has been listed by the patrons themselves, some have even called it the HELL !! .

1. Non availability of food which is reflected on the menu is a struct NO, NO ! it reflects shabby management practices.

2. Most of the Drinks are laced or flavored artificially, this must be mentioned in the menu, because the artificial flavoring has a chemical like aroma and taste and can also trigger allergic reactions to patrons who are sensitive and may order these drinks out of ignorance.

3. The acoustics of the restaurant needs to be addressed, all sorts of noises within the place bounce because of hard surfaces, the chatter of he people around echoes and creates a huge noise, over head baffles, or treatment of the roof or the pillars can take care of this partly.

4. The sofas have bad seats, the Foam and the springs underneath need to be replaced. When a tall or a big person sits then he sinks in and is uncomfortable.

5. The last time i visited ( Last November 2011 ), i had actually recommended some visitors from outside to meet there, the Menu presented was in tatters, shabby, torn , I am sure they can afford to have some fresh prints.

6. Often when you ask for condiments, either they do not have enough or the bottles in which they are served are sticky and dirty, good house keeping reflects good standards and training to the staff. This would also avoid infections, because exposed food degenerates and forms bacteria.

Their greatest plus point is the location, this could be a gold mine for them but if only they also start catering to the discerning and not just to the people looking for standard or average fare. The menu should have a good mix of all types of cuisine catering to all segments.

It is the discretion of the Management to take action on the feedback or reject, the choice is theirs. Last but the least, a complaining customers must be dealt with kid gloves ( I am sure they know what I mean) . A customer would complain only if he wishes to come back an want the outlet to improve else there is no dearth of choices, a customer is free to go anywhere if he is dissatisfied.
Good Luck !

Aromas

There are some stewards who behave in this trashy manner, other wise the best way is to deal with them sternly because you are a paying customer and not a begger. Being in business the Aromas guys need to learn the tricks of the trade if they wish to remain in business, else there are plenty of restaurants that have shut down purely because of untrained, uncouth staff and mismanagement. Wake up aromas and smell the coffee before you hit the dirt !!!!

Food is uneven and service with an attitude!

I happen(ed) to be a regular at Aromas in Powai since my office is a stones throw away. I (used to) frequent Aromas for breakfast. In the past 2 months there have been 2 instances where I have been extremely appaled by the service AND the food. And when a customer is running up a bill close to Rs300 for breakfast, the least I can expect is quick service and consistency in the meal. The 1st instance that happened a month ago, I oredered my tea and my meal and waited to be served. The Tea arrived on time and after 20-25 minutes there was no sight of my meal. When I asked them as to why it was taking them so long a waiter came up and defensively told me that it 'usually' takes this long. Now for someone who visits the restaurant twice a week I know the time it takes to be served and I KNEW that this was longer than usual. I retorted that this was not done and it was then that the waiter said that they had only two cooking stations and hence the delay.
Why did he not give me that explanation in the first place? Why did we have to get into a war of words? The second time (which was the day before) I went there for my regular Tea and breakfast. This time the meal arrived on time but with BIG chunks of Garlic in the food. I called the waiter and told then to remove the excess garlic since I have to deal with clients and the smell of Garlic will not be appreciated. The man goes in, comes back and tells me that this is the way they make it(with a take it or leave it attitude). That's what I just did. I left it. And I don't think I'll be returning again. My neighborhood Bhajiyawala gives me an extra bhajiya and some more tea if I go to his establishment more than twice a week. And that breakfast costs me a princely sum of Rs 16. Maybe the people at Aromas can learn Customer service from him. Don't think I'll be reccomending their name to anyone or will give any business to them in the near future. UPDATE: The gentleman Sunny Shriram has left the organization. The person who will most probably respond to your queries in an 'anonymous' manner is Sapana Malhotra.

Go for the taste, not just the Aroma ;)

Well, I have been to this place a couple of times now & just couldn't resist writing a review... Simply loveeeeeeeeeeee to be here!!

Okay here goes my list of "10 reasons" why you should visit Aromas:

1. Early morning breakfast available.. yippieee.. This is probably the only cafe I know in this area which serves great beverages and breakfast early morning. Drop in 8.30 in the morning & they will happily take you in :) :) (do try out the 'cottage cheese akuri on toast' & 'cheese chilli toast' , yummm)

2. Variety is the spice of life... & so break free from the regular mochas and Cappuccinos & try something new which you will get in plenty here. (P.s : 'Flat white' coffee & 'Yogi tea' are some of the beverages I liked. Also try out their other varieties in coolers)

3. Ambience - calm, pleasing & soothing.. I can just sit here for hours (Really if I could!)

4. Aromas special Pizza....... Yummyy.... people who love thin crust pizzas just go for it (much much better than the pizza hut types) ..& people who hate thin crusts - you should still try this because it has got a good filling which won't make it seem so thin after all!!

5. Wine & Dine - ok peopleee let me clarify i don't drink but for people looking out for a small meal with a classic sip of wine, then this is the place

6. washroom - yes you read it right!! don't be surprised why this is in the list?? if you do realize most of the cafes(like baristas & CCDs) don't have basic amenities like a washroom

7. Drinking water is free - I have been to some big cafes where they actually ask to buy bottled water
(as they don't server drinking water free grrrrr... thankfully aromas don't have that problem)

8. Waiters don't shoo you off even if the place is crowded.. a pleasant surprise from other places.. (I was once here in the evening peak hours & was inside for about 1.5hrs & left on my wish - no pestering boss!)

9. Delight for the Veggies like ME (Yes you do have a lot of variety here compared to other places... so veggies, you have something to rejoice.. do try out the items i have mentioned above)

10. Decent place to hang out with both FAMILY & FRIENDS !! yeahhhh this place is such that you can hang out with anyone from any age group.. totally decent & cool place, do check out & keep burrping ;)

Nice place to hang out

I was a big 'Cafe Mocha' fan earlier. However, I think it has lost its charm these days.
Aromas Cafe is a very good replacement, in fact it offers better options for snacks and food.
We tried out some lebanese food, and it was surprisingly very good. haven't tasted such nice 'Kebabs' in India... will surely visit again.

Nice food but service leaves lot to be desired...

I always leave this place with mixed emotions. Food is generally good here but its the service which is a let down and needs improvement. Considering the prices one has to pay here, I expect much better service than a regular coffee shop.

The stewards here are a bit on the arrogant side. I recall asking for a table for 3 and was told that i will have to wait eventhough I could see two tables empty as the tables were 'reserved' / booked by someone ahead of me. When I asked the manager (I assume he was the manager as he was dressed differently from the rest) if there is a waiting list and put my name on it, I was told there is no such list and was then given a table promptly with the guy who had initially refused the same table earlier giving me lame explanations.

These guys also tend to hide/be ignorant about the fact that they offer a 15% discount to Citibank customers and one need to be persuasive about it by reminding the waiter repeatedly as if he forgets to inform the billing guy and the bill is generated they flatly refuse the discount. The waiter insists that i remind his at the time of billing even if I inform him of my card while placing the order.

Moreover, the management needs to seriously look at repairing their Sofas. Many of them are broken and tend to sink down.

If Mr. Sunny Sriram can look into these aspects, I think the customer would leave with a smile as big as one on their coffee.

Dear Patron, Thank you for your valued comments. We will be replacing the chairs and sofa within the next week so your experience will be most enhanced. We apologize for any confusion with our Citibank Promotion. That has now been addressed but as the Policy stands, the Citibank card must be presented at the time of order to ensure the discount is processed at billing. Thank you for your patronage and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Kind Regards.

Arogent service staff

•Today (11.09.2011) Afternoon I went to Aromas at Powai around 4 o’clock for a cup of coffee, I called for the menu and ordered for a chocolate milk shake, the waiter asked me weather I am alone or expecting someone to join, I dint know why he was asking this question but I said no, to my surprise the waiter told me that either I have to finish my drink fast or have to leave if some family of four comes to the coffee , he said today is a Sunday and we expect lot of people, hence he will get me a drink only if I agree for this condition , I was shocked by this insult and called for the manager Mr Gaurav Deshpande , he was also of the same opinion , I did not find it welcoming to sit and have coffee any more so i wrote a complaint talked to the Sr. Manager and left without having a coffee, I am regular at CCD and mocca but never faced such insult at any of these places, surprise to see such miss behaving staff in a service industry ,
I was not having the milk shake for free , this kind of insult is heart shaking.

Good Food but tooooo Expensive

Yesterday night i had been there. . asked Clube house Grilled sandwich. It was good, with no mushrooms or cheese. & came with few potoato chips .I am pure veg with the test for Indian food but yesterday sandwich was excellent in test & crisp in texture. Service was nice & smiling. But grilled sandwich with cabbage , carrot & cucummber costing Rs.204/- was toooooo much. May be for nerby IT & Call center employees .

Good enough

Visited the place while attending a job interview in Hiranandani. The service is ssssllllllloooooowwwwww... I mean really slow. They take their own sweet time to bring you the menu, to bring you your food, to bring you the bill everything...

The food on the other hand is alright. Nothing to write home about but not bad enough to complain either. The ambiance is good. Nice, comfortable seating and no obnoxious music. Considering everything it is still slightly expensive. A proper brunch for myself cost well over Rs.450. But definitely not a bad place.

Menu Goof Up...

This was my second visit to Aromas. I am a veggie and I ordered for a Spanish omlette which was marked as green - veg logo. When I started having it, I was feeling its with egg and when I checked, the waiter was like omlette is always with egg. This is so weird, tomato omlette is eggless and then I questioned why its marked as veg in the menu. He said after checking with the mgmt, its a mistake we have from the start. However, the mgmt didn't charge for the same. It was not a good experience though last time I had enjoyed the Cheese Chilli toast and Veg. Fritters. Please veggies be careful in such places...

definitely not a cliche

Aromas was a good surprise, especially for the fact that this is the only cafe i have come across that serves good tea (Thank You). Their selection of some fine brewed tea (with names like Yogi tea), is a breather for any chai aficionado. The ambiance is pleasant, open and being situated in the corner of a busy street in Powai, it gives a good view of the outside while sipping a cuppa joe. Service was friendly, although our order was delayed by 20 minutes or so. Quick bites could do with some sprucing up.

Verdict: For all coffee and cafe addicts, a must try. For all tea addicts, well...not disappointing at all.

i always passed by Aromas, thinking its just a coffee shop. Some kind of unfamiliarity stopped me from checking it out. But a friend took me there yesterday, and I cudnt believe that they serve wine ! i was delighted to say the least. But it being a rainy day, i jus settled for a refreshing cuppa mango tea.
this is my hot new find and I cant wait to go back for the pasta, wine & desserts. Ive also heard good things about the breakfast. now that will mean a third visit

Good Dishes

I have only tried Aromas during Lunch Hours.(Specific mention since they have more options in breakfast.) I have visited this place 3-4 times.

We ordered Garlic bread and Nachos in the beginning. Both were very good. Chicken dish(Don't remember the name) was also very tasty. Well cooked chicken.

Veg Burger is also good here.

Mango Shake ordered later was a bit disappointing. All my friends didn't like the Mango shake. Pizza was average too. Deserts are very average.

Not all so great

While I agree with all the other reviews, with respect to quality, price & concept... Have you seen the portions??The service is slow n can't handle a house full.
We ordered for the 'aromas breakfast'. It came for Rs. 235/- + taxes. While that's not a huge amt the portions for that price was a joke! Even a 5 yr old eats more

Not your regular coffee house

Asa resident of powai I find Aromas a great place to chill out. I am a frequent visitor and love its ambience and helpful service. The outside seating option is great when the weather is pleasant and when swarms of mosquitoes are not on a feeding frenzy. Unlike your CCD and Barista this place thrives on the quality of its food and coffee. A lot of pain has gone into designing the menu. The menu has wide ranging options. There are enough options for a quick bite or a heavy meal. Besides the food is prepared in the kitchen and not the ready to eat (read preservative laden) types that other coffee places thrive on. My fav items on the menu are cheesy garlic bread, garlic mushroom, club house sandwich, hummus, schezwan fries. Oh! before I forget, they serve excellent coffee too. This is a great place for a meeting, casual chat, date or just a lazy Sunday brunch. Evenings can get crowded and it is sometimes difficult to get a seat. Also it gets noisy once the place is packed to capacity and the music does tend to get loud. We had a meeting once and the music forced us to shout instead of converse. We asked the manager to turn the music down which he was kind enough to do. This place would be borderline VFM if they did not charge the service tax. For regular visitors (like me) it becomes a pain. You end up paying extra every time. I think the management should reconsider the service tax charge especially for people who don't drink. Other than that it is an absolutely wonderful place bang in the middle of powai. Try it an dyou wont be dissapointed.

Dear Patron, thank you very much for your observations and thoughtful suggestions. Wish to state that the service tax rules are a recent addition to the bill since around mid of this month, and compliance is necessary by law. However, we understand your grievance and sympathise. All our clients, as with other restaurant operators, are affected. However, you may also wish to know that we have never levied as policy, a service charge unlike our competition. I sincerely hope for your continued patronage. Warm regards and have a great day.

I ordered the masala omelette and it was mind-blowing. Loved the idea of serving it with baked beans and toast. In my opinion the breakfast menu looks awesome. I can't figure out why you can't serve the breakfast menu the whole day.
Thanks

My New Favorite!

My New Favorite!

I can't believe I didn't check out the place for the longest time. But after my first visit for brunch on the India-SL WC finale day, I've been back thrice, and loved it each time.

Ordered Garlic mushroom each time, and it hasn't diappointed. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. The salads are crisp, the pastas are creamy (you should try the thai curry pasta... weird combo, but absolutely delicious), the pizzas are crisp and cheesy and the drinks are good. The other starters are also yum.

I like the ambience... bright, sunny cafe feel. The location is perfect. The service is quick (they could be a tad bit more smiley and less businesslike... like they were on my first visit). The prices are right. Overall, it's my new favorite place.

Great place for short meetings

I find Aromas as one of the most attractive meeting spots in and around Powai. They're much more than a coffee shop, and that extended menu along with the ambiance makes it a fine place! I can have their Nachos anytime of the day. Also try their coffee/mocha coolers.

Good place for a lazy weekend meal

We were here yesterday for a pre-match brunch. It's my first time at Aromas, and decided to come here after being highly recommended by my husband.

Ambience: Great location, in the middle of Powai. The outside seating looked good for a day with better weather. The inside ambience was perfectly brunch-y... sunny and cool.

Food: I wanted to have mushroom on toast. Since we were there around 12.30pm the mushroom on toast, which is a part of the breakfast menu served till 11am was not available. Called for a mushroom and pesto sandwich instead... and they didn't have panini or brown bread. So finally we ordered veg and non-veg salads. Our friends joined us... and recommended the garlic-mushroom foccacia and stir-fried veggies. So I managed to get my mushroom fix finally. The garlic-mushoom foccacia is quite a surprise - would definitely go back and have it again. I liked the salads too... crisp and fresh with yummy dressing. Only thing a bit off was the raw onion in the salad... can be avoided.

Drinks: Although the hot coffees looked inviting, it was hot weather and I had a paasion-fruit & mint drink - which was yum.

Service: Really nice and polite staff. Service with a smile definitely makes you feel good.

Suggestions: The breakfast menu can be made all-day on weekends. Normally don't manage to get out of home early on Sat/Sun. And how about adding bagels and waffles?

Have been here quite a few times... Love their ambiance and service.
The cold coffees are great and i just love the thin crust pizzas they serve here. Very tasty and perfectly garnished. Dont cost a ton too like those pizza chains.
Plus the service is well balanced with attentiveness and giving you privacy.
Also the location is great as u can see the busy intersection of hiranandani outside which is always fun to watch.

Pricey Breakfast....but worth a visit...

My wife and me have been to Aromas a number of times, but never for a morning breakfast....so tried it today and was pretty impressed with what we had...Their ambience is always great....and so it was at 8,30 AM too...
We ordered their flagship Masala Omlette and Scrambled Eggs both of which came with an hash-brown and complimentary bread toasts...of course there was butter, jam and marmalade too...We also ordered Chilli Cheese Toast and Chicken Sausages and topped it off with a Yogi Chai...
The Omlette is one of the best ones I have had and the breads were toasted perfectly and were warm as required...Scrambled egg was done well too...but was not as warm as it should have been....the sausages and hash-browns were just perfect...all in all it was a satisfying breakfast and we were pretty full at the end...The Yogi chai is one of our favorites and it didn't disappoint us this time as well....
The service was good as always...but all this worked out to a pricey 560 INR for two. I won't say it is Value for money but well worth the money and definitely worth trying....I would visit again and try some other dishes...

Lovely

So am a sucker for italian food especially when you bring together good white wine with pasta in white sauce. And after long, i found a place where the pasta is neither too dry nor too bland. It was perfect - cheesy and yummm! the vegetables are well cooked, go well with it. One can also go for the thin crust pizzas. Dont order too much, they have good servings. The chocolate based beverage was although not too great, decent starters. Overall, one must sample Aromas if in mood for some italian.

An excellent bistro-ish place to chill at

My husband and I had our first date here, but used to frequent it even earlier. Team meetings, dates, parties/treats, brunches, lunches, dinner, ... we have had these and everything in between. We even announced our impending marriage to friends here! :) Their ingredients are always fresh, the service very good, and everything served with a smile. Their Woodcutter Pizza is scrumptious - my husband starts drooling each time someone mentions it! The portions are generous, desserts are eggless and good (if expensive), food is very tasty, and drinks very good. My favorites are the lasagna, bruschetta, choco-mint glacier, and blueberry cheesecake :) They do occasionally have "bad-hair days" - drinks don't always taste the same, the brownie is occasionally burnt, etc. but oh well ... We even like the music at the place! It may seem like I'm gushing, but it's probably because I have really warm memories of the place! My mom's coming to Mumbai tonight and we'll be whisking her off to Aromas for dinner - another brownie point for them is their working hours! They open early for breakfast and are open till 01.30 am or something! Good service (usually fast), good ambience, and good food are their pluses. The minuses are that the food is pricey, the place crowded and noisy frequently, and occasionally home to numerous flies!

I love what i get here

This place has a unique positioning, its not just another CCD and its not the barista or Mocha. It is a place with no airs, a relaxed, languid place which serves coffee , tea and beer with equal measure. Menu which begins with a full spread breakfast to bites and even light dinner if you may please. They could build some character with music but thats probably the only thing i want to change about this place .Oh yeah i love your easy sofa chairs..

comfy and cozy....good coffee

Strangely paradoxical to the thicket f the powai suburbs wherein it lies, this place is the soothing respite for anyone who wishes to sit alone/with friends/family with a cup of coffee and cookie in hand. It gives the typical F.R.I.E.N.D.S kind of Central Perk feel away from all the noise of the powai roads. Whatever you need to quench your thirst or soothe your appetite, you get it here albeit a lil slow on service, but thats perfectly enough if you have time to chill with your friends. And if you're in a hurry, simply ask for prompt service and you have it ready. But, normally, thats not what the aromas' patrons are looking for anyway. The place suits to what customers are looking for. Although quite a few times I have noticed that some interesting items on the menu are not available. Hope they look into it. All in all, loved the place !

Mmmm..Aromas:)

I love coffees and undoubtedly do enjoy and support the coffee shop culture. Aromas is a quaint, i can't say little but, yeah this quaint cafe is well lit, neatly done and yes the food. The food is a delicious fare altogether. They have an elaborate menu which consists of tea, coffee, coolers, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, pasta, risotto, subs and etc.
I love their coffees and sakes. You have to try their Mushroom and Garlic Brushetta. The pizzas are thin crust and have a few veg and non-veg toppings. Yumm. You can sit at leisure and enjoy your coffee while catching up with your friend/better half etc. The place is perpetually crowded. The service is a little slow. The captains seem sweet.Once a four seater wasn't given to say it was reserved but, a few minutes later a couple walks in and happily takes the table. I did intimate the captain about and he apologized so,I forgive and forget. Overall a nice place. It's vibrant which mostly is because of the youth that doth the place.

Decent Food, Good Coffee

I am happy with the food and coffee at Aromas Powai but the seating at the far side of the lounge leaves a lot to be desired, the loungy sofas are low and the chairs are high and it becomes very awkward when sitting in a group, half the group is sitting low and half the group is sitting high!

Horrible

I had been here with a friend, i ordered Smiley Fries, the waiter said we don't have it, then i told him to get me a Mango peach drink, he said we don't have it. I got really irritated coz if they don't have anything why do they have it on the menu? Then i ordered a strawberry milkshake which was BAD, i left half of it. It was like milk mixed with water and 3-4 drops of strawberry juice and my friend ordered Pinacolada which was very bad as well.

The place/ambience is OK but the mocktails/drinks/shakes are VERY BAD & food mentioned on the menu is never available!

Aromas..........again!!

I must have visited this place along with my wife more than 5-8 times. This place rocks simply because of the food, coffee and soups. It is also one of my favourite places to eat.
Ambiance is ok but, the food tops everything.
I would say their Garlic Bread with Cheese is the best in town. Their tomato soup and Cottage Cheese Sate are also good although the latter is a bit sweet. Their menu has changed recently with some more additions.
A good place to hang out with friends.
Service can be better. Coffees are excellent.

A much better place after the staff change!

To be frank I hated to eat at Aroma’s after a couple of really bad experience with the staff there. At one point I really wanted to write in to the Management of this place just so that they are aware of the antics of their staff, which was pathetic.

Anyways my opinion has changed & for the pleasant from January 2010 onwards when after a long hiatus we visited this place again. The first thing that we noticed was that they had changed the staff, so score 1 for them..yipee! The current staff is courteous and attentive, they tend to slip up once in a while but that can be overlooked.

Now for the food. Aromas has some really tasty dishes like the Tuna in Panini sandwich, which is enormous and tasty, the Chicken Alfredo-moist and saucy and the Mezze platter, to name a few. The various teas are fantastic, flavorsome with the right twist, ditto for the milkshakes and Juices. But we were very disappointed with the desert array, especially the ginger flavored cake. It was a complete yuck.

I am sure that their Breakfast menu too will be filling for the stomach & soul, but since it is available only till 11am, it is absolutely impossible to visit it in the stipulated time on a holiday. I wish sincerely that they increase the breakfast timings to 12 noon on weekends so that working couples, families who tend have a leisure start on weekends can still partake of their breakfast menu. Oh! they really should start home delivery.

Good Hang-out Place

I must have visited this place about 5-6 times. The first time I went here I was so disgusted with the service I did not feel like even writing a review. The only reason I continued to visit this place is because of its thin crusted pizza which according to is the best. but the last couple of times I visited this place the service has improved quite a lot. The staff is more attentive compared to my first time and the place is much cleaner. The food remains good as always.

first time & loving it

This is how eating out was meant to be. Great ambience, good food & good value. Feel bad that I can't hang here more often!

I'm so fed-up of lousy & don't care attitudes around many of Mumbai's eating joints...I just had to give this review from my phone!

Good Food. Nice Service. Long Hours.Easy on Pocket

Powai did miss a nice cafe, where you could sit around for a long time, eat at your pace, eat good stuff, listen to nice music, have a nice, friendly staff who do not get too "personal" and linger around as if listening to your conversations on the table...and at the best...a bill that would not dig your pockets too deep.
Have been a regular here, my wife and me absolutely love this place. The menu is simple yet interesting, and the food does taste like the way they describe it...they mostly have everything on the menu in the kitchen (only exception being - different pastas). A favourite for nice warm breakfast on a weekend or a late night snack..especially after a long day at work.
About 10 months of eating here pretty regularly, the only time they dissapointed us was when we found a small insect in a salad - forgiven (and no...they did not write my bill off)
Let us see if they can ward off the stiff competetion they have now from Yellow Chilli and Kebab Factory, and the newly opened Gloria Jeans.

Pleasant Surprise!

Well, post all the reviews I read on "burrp" I was quite skeptical to venture into this territory, when my friend suggested we spend an evening at this cafe.

But boy, am i glad i am so easily persuaded...had the sausage and caramelized onion sandwich with the mixed berry frappe and my friend had ordered for the mighty meat pizza with a beer and despite the full house was blessed with a more than decent service. Our orders were in soon enough...the food was as good as it could get, Loved the Ambiance...All that I could expect from a lounge cafe' and more... Thanks to the wine and beer on the menu!! ;)

Guess, the guys have finally managed to get their act together.

I would definitely recommend this place for a chilled out time with friends or maybe even a budget date! :P

Here goes nothing.

After watching "The Informant" and absolutely loving it i was quietly on my way back home when my friend stepped on the wrong nerve " Chal beer petey hai". Cut to: Aromas! (Actually i stay a minute away and Aura's would have been too loud) The place was full, which surprises me because i don't know one reason why anyone would come here part from the cold beers. The food SUCKS! As they say hunger is blind, so i called for a salad and a pizza, both sucked, total damage was one leaf of the largest denomination and a murdered appetite. While we were waiting for our bill in walk in some family friends with their 2 kids of impressionable age and i am sure those 6 empty pints on our table would have left a lasting one.

Cheers!

Foul....Aromas

Well I must admit that had I written the review 6 months back I would have rated this place at 3 or 4 stars, however since last two months this place has been a complete showdown.
First of all they have changed their menu, wonder why. Secondly they have increased the rates & reduced the menu items. I guess they want to stick to selling liquor at exorbitant prices to earn more moolah.
Last time when I went 70% of the items on the menu were not available so I asked the waiter to get whatever was available...
Service is Pathetic.....and most of the people sitting on the tables keep on looking at other tables wondering whether they have got their orders....
Its a good place for those who just want to sit, talk and are not bothered about food & drinks.
Pizzas are just about ok & so are nachos & sandwiches.

Overall ..not happening.

Lots of potential, but little to show

First, the setting, which is is nice. I've had some good times at Aromas, but it has had more to do with the company rather than the food or drinks. And each time I've had a nice time, the nice, but often infuriating folks at Aromas have also done something to nearly ruin it.

While the food has been good, there was a time we got a bug along with the food (since an earlier review also mentions it, guess it's fairly common at Aromas). Another grouse is the service--when we once went as a group, one guy's expresso was served last, after nearly an hour and multiple reminders. Considering that expresso was the easiest thing to make of all the stuff we ordered, it was plain shoddy service. And oh yes, they often delay food with the incredible excuse that the item is new on the menu and therefore is taking time to make! Makes one really, really wonder about things here.

And little niggles--when I ordered for black tea (without looking at the menu) I got a nice spiced tea that I enjoyed. I was told that Aromas only had spiced tea and no regular black tea. Next time I ordered for black tea I assumed they would serve me a spiced tea but they served me a standard black tea. And no, their Bacardi Limon lemon mousse does not contain Bacardi--despite what they claim!

I've liked their omelets, their bruschettas and I've heard good things about their pastas. Have also heard some very good things about their coffees.

Aromas has amazing potential and the setting is very good, but bad service spoils the experience.

Fancy restaurant with an aweful service and food

I have been to this place once and that will be my last visit to it as well. The first look of the place impressed me. Nice ambience to spend time with friends. But the service and the food doesnt stand up to the hype given to this place. If u donot want to lose your temper over pathetic and arrogant service (and food), i would advice against visiting this place.

culinary hell

if possible i would give this place -1...
my review is based on three experiences and each time i thought i'd give this place a chance i hav let myself down.

the first time i went there coz i heard so much abt the place. i called for pizza which followed a long wait. the place was crowded so i thought well i mus be patient. im not exaggerating when i say it took 2 hrs to arrive. still i decided to giv it the benefit of doubt.

the second time i landed up there for a late nite snack. before placing my order i asked them if they were gonna close anytime soon. they reassured me saying the restaurant is open for another 1 hr. so i called for food and jus when i started eating, they switched off the lights! a cleaner started spraying phenol around my table n cleaning up! look at the cheek of the waiter when he said that i was the only customer at the time, so he had to save electricity and turn off the lights. wtf...

the third time i was helpless as i had to go there for a b'day party. my friends wer ticked off the moment they saw unclean tables n sticky plates but the worst was yet to come. our food arrived and what looked like black pepper in our pasta suddenly started moving. obviously there were bugs in our food. we were utterly disgusted! when we complained to the manager, he jus shrugged n said yeah we have a pest problem here. he charged us for the infested food, let alone replacing it.

aromas lives in its own awe...they assume they'r the most happenin restaurant in this area but hey! these guys need to open their eyes and check out the recent reviews on burrp. then they'll knw where they stand. slow service, arrogant waiters, horrible hygiene, bugs in food!!! personally i wana save all fellow burrpers from entering this culinary hell.

Great Location;Slow Service

I was super excited when I saw aromas open as it reminded me of my happy times spend in NY in the little breakfast places that turned into some nice music places by evening..
so i invited my out of town friend for a sunday breakfast.
They said they were open at 8 so we strolled in at 8.30.
The place was being swept and swabbed while about ten of us were seated in.
The location and ambience was perfect..but everything else was a little off.
Why have morning service if they cant deliver it...
We took half hour to get regular egg omellete.
By the time we got to start eating it was 45 minutes...we were so fatigued at the wait that we dropped the idea of having the tea( some very nice ones) and left.
I would recommed that if they want to gain a clientele then weekend breakfasts have to expand..add fruits to the dish and ideally offer some dishes instead of saying it is at 11.00..
They will see a burst of traffic..
also can they reduce the number of staff in the morning...or tell them to keep their voice levels low..I guess you need a larger staff later in the evening...
I would love to see it develop into a truly nice brunch place i hope the australian owners are reading this!!!

Aromas

Aromas joins the hugely successful Cafe Coffee Day and Cafe Mocha to become the fourth coffee shop in Powai. CCD gets a little too crowded and though the food and deserts at Mocha are much better than CCD, the shady crowd often puts you off. Cafe Columbia opened up sometime last year but they had a horrible location and their food was probably the worst of the three. Aromas opened up recently in Hiranandani. Aromas is part of an Australian coffee chain and have entered the Indian market with their Hiranandani outlet. I have been to Aromas twice so far and have not really been that impressed. I ordered a slice of cake that was dry, and maybe a little stale too. A lot of things on the menu weren't available when I went there which was atleast a good month after they had opened. They serve wine but haven't started serving beer yet (although its on the menu). I had a mint shake as well which wasn't strong enough and seemed a little diluted to me. Overall the food was pretty disappointing, perhaps average at best. They also serve breakfast which is something I would like to try. Their location opposite D-Mart can get a bit crowded especially during rush hour though I must admit that I enjoyed watching the chaotic traffic while relaxing inside. They have outdoor seating as well which is nice when the weather is good The interiors are pretty good and its a lot better done up than CCD. However it is more expensive than CCD so I guess that it's balanced. Service was OK. They messed up my friend's order and he had to wait a good ten minutes after we got our food. The staff is fairly polite so I guess that its not that bad. Overall I guess this is a pretty nice place to hangout if food isn't really on the top of your list.

Nooo.... Aromas here

Have been twice to Aromas and thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt as we had not ordered any coffee the first time around.

Sad to say, both the experiences were awful.

The food is nothing special and the quantities are very small for the prices they charge. (Rs 70 for a bowl of about 10 french fries).

The coffee: I ordered a cold coffee and got a glass of cold fat free milk with a slight brown tinge of coffee.

The ambience: location is perfect, and interiors are done well, however, when it comes to hygiene, my table was clean when I went in, but then they came and cleaned it with a sponge wipe that left the whole table stinking!

There are so many waiters that they keep delegating within themselves, I saw at least 4 orders being returned to the kitchen due to mistakes. It takes at least 10 minutes to get your bill (after a lot of follow up).

As Hiranandani does not have much options in terms of cafes, I guess they will survive even with this level of service, till a Coffee Day or Barista finds its way here.

Awesome...Yet Again

I went out for a Saturday night out to Aromas. Excellent Service, great food, very reasonable priced menu. I feel that the service goes an extra mile that allows for a great experience.
Note: The tangy Potatoes are awesome

Olive! Long live!

We had Humus and Pita bread chips first time.
We drowned in each other's eyes but still noticed the taste.

The next time was not so lovey-dovey when we came into Aromas. But the taste reminded us of the previous experience.

Aromas, in a nutshell, is paradise regained.
Three cheers to the chef and the staff (overloaded as expected but polite).

Uber Cool!

Thats what this is. Lovely place and decor. The food and drinks menu are awesome. I had a iced tea ,garlic bread sticks and a sandwich. Good value for money. Would surely visit them again.

A Caffeine Kick from Down Under

If Mocha and Barista ever joined forces, Aromas is what would emerge, especially as far as the ambience and prices are concerned.
