If you wanted to try cup-cakes suddenly whereas they have been arnd for years then maybe you can go and see the shop in a starry eyed manner. However its way too expensive to charge for very ordinary cup-cakes, service guys who behave as if they are local snooty specials! You can certainly credit them with bringing the frenzy back of cup-cakes as their nearest competitor has opened up exactly next door! ha!!but guys really you need to pull up your socks!
Not worth it
This is my second review, the first one was regarding bad service and how because they never pick up their phones i had never been able to order their cakes .
Finally i went there and tried the red velvet cupcake and i totallty disliked it .
I love cakes ,pastries ,cupcakes everything baked in general and have tried many places but this has to be one of the worst tasting cake and for rs 80 it is not worth it.
I being someone who usually doesnt write negative reviews about places this is one place which seems to make me write something so harsh.
Worse delivery service ever...
Worse delivery service ever... while all the other cupcake bakeries offer free delivery, Butterfly charges 60 bucks to deliver 4 cupcakes! Well, you could have atleast made your customer aware of that.. I would have ordered shop next door Love,Sugar, Dough (LSD) whose cupcakes are far better off!!
AVERAGE taste.... AVERAGE appearance... WASTE
AVERAGE taste,.... AVERAGE appearance.... WASTE OF MONEY.....went there twice.... the first time i tried it out on account of my sincere love of sweets ..... the second time i entered 'butterfly' :P :P:P was becuz of my friend who was dying to go there .. i warned her about it but ... she was like "you know , my neighbour had it for her bday... mujhe jaana hai ... " you know friends .. you just cant say no to them..... both times the cupcakes were stale .. dry... and the taste was like a local cakeshop at Ghatkopar!! ..... Butterfly was a total waste of money..... the people who served us too were behaving like they are doing us a favour !! please dont waste your time,,, go somewhere else :)
Over rated / Over Hyped
Been there, not once, But twice. And on both those occasions I have found that the cupcakes are really nothing worth the hype its been given.
The cake might have seen better days. its crusty and dry.
The cream is just about okay.
Pretty pictures and rave reviews on TV does not make a great product.
Buttercups at Butterfly, Bandra
Butterfly is a delightful little store in Bandra. The kind that gives you the feeling that you have discovered a quaint yet dreamy shop on your own. The interior of the store does nothing to take away attention from the most important thing in there - the Buttercups!!! The buttercups are equally delightful. In India, nice buttercups are hard to find and Butterfly succeeds in filling that gap. The best part according to me is that the makers are liberal with the icing/frosting. In fact, the size of the cake part and the frostig part are in a ratio 1:1 which makes it even more heavenly. I have decided to taste a new flavour everytime I am that side of town and I hope the flavors never end.
Out of the Cocoon!
I finally visited this place after: a) Hearing so much about it, b) Locating its secret location!
OK, so you just walk straight down the Out of the Blue road and you should see it on your right. It's right next to the newly opened LSD (also exciting but I only picked up their visiting card). We ordered a Butterfly cupcake, a vanilla cupcake and a red velvet one (my choice). They looked so delish - had to pick these three. The Butterfly one had a blue frosting with chocolate rice, the vanilla one had violet frosting with purply shine-rice and the red velvet looked as any RVC would look like.
RV was a disappointment so I eliminate it from the race. Out of the other two contenders, both were moist and had a light yet yummy and creamy frosting. I declare the Butterfly one as the true champion! Lovely vanilla icing on a moist chocolate cupcake + a chocolate melt-y core! SCORE. The other cupcakes looked pretty cute too - because of the colours, icing and work on them.
Stopped by here on the strong recommendation of a friend. By the time I reached there - 7 ish, they were almost sold out! They only had a couple trays worth vanilla cupcakes for sale.
We tried the cupcake and instantly fell in love. Wifey and me swore to come back to try out their other varieties.
They also sell mini cupcakes in a lovely take-away box.
really need to train their employees!
well, a few days back when i planned to surprise my frnd by gifting her a GIANT cupcake. . .i guess it was the first and the last time i would have ever gone there again.
i had my worst experience with them . They have rude employees and unorganized things around. The giant cupcake which is about 1.5 kgs has NO packing at all .
The employees carelessly join two small cupcake boxes and put the giant one in that. and then ask you to be "carefull*. .
i told them tht its impossible for me to take it to my frnds place which is at lokhandwala to which they replied that it was easily possible . i left from there and not too far had i gone in my car "carefully" that the entire cupcake coz of its careless packing toppled over me .....
i went pack and told them abt it and they refused to help me out with in a VERY rude tone and started to put the blame on me. Overall it was a bad experience.
And as mentioned before by someone, "they never have change" and the cupcakes are reallly veryyyy sweet!
Yummilicious cup cakes!
Always had a fantasy to try some good looking delicious cup-cakes. My colleagues surprised us by getting multiple flavored cup cakes. The cakes were soft, well done and the icing & presentation was fantastic. I tasted the coconut cup cake, the lemon flavored cup cake, the chocolate cupcake.. and must admit all of them were very very good! must visit the place some day rather than a take away.
got confused after reading mixd reviews so decided 2 chek it out myself.. small place but awesome cupcakes.. i bet one of da best cupcakes in town.. had many mouthwaterin flavours n till 2de out of wat all i hav tried tiramisu. peanut butter creme n strawberry r my favs.. i want 2 try red valvet cupcakes too but everytime i go dere its already sold out.. de say dat if i cum b4 3pm den only i stand safe chance to get it..
i hav never seen da shop widout a coustomer on counter n dat speaks 4 da cupcakes.. hav never been 2 candies after i tasted cupcakes here.. wat makes da cupcakes different 4m candies n others is dat evry cupcake base has its own flavour according 2 da name..n even da cremem on top taste according 2 its name.. gud
"We dont have change"..
I had raved about this place a little over a month ago..the cupcakes stand at where they were..but the staff needs a lesson in customer handling...also, whats with "we dont have change" being told to me everytime i have bought my cakes?..you own a store for crying out loud!!..unless the staff probably is too bone lazy to look for change?...service and food matters when it comes to rating an eatery. The staff should definitely be made aware of that!
Best Cupcakes in Town INDEED!!
Having heard it mentioned almost thrice on koffe wid karan as "the best cupcakes in town"...i decided to see wats all the fuss about..so i got some home for my dinner party and OH MY GAWWWD the moment i took my first bite i knew i wanted it all to myself..very reluctantly shared em with my guests :)..ran the next day and got myself some more..the RED VELVET IS EPIC and so r many other flavours...a whole new definition to cupcakes...must MUST Try ..hmmm now im tempted to go get some more :)
The butterfly that drives your blues away
Its more than just a pun on the name, the cupcakes actually do. When in Bandra/Khar, I just long to have the Butterfly special. My daughter loves it too. My wife initially wasnt a fan (also because I used to buy the same one and she doesnt fancy chocolate too much), but changed her mind after tasting the Tiramisu and the Vanilla. I would say, this should be atleast a one-a-week treat!
doesnt seem right
hey isnt it weird that all the latest reviews on burrp.com are of butterfly in khar ?? how can 4 ppl who have simultaneously started burrping (apparently), and write a review of butterfly at the same time.
besides all the reviews have a similar tone..too much buttering i guess.
i love butterfly cupcakes, but this is a cheap shot!!! looks like the butterfly is turning evil..xoxo.
You can't be serious?
Having heard about Butterfly whilst in the uk I was eager to try out their product on my visit to Goa via Mumbai, and I must say I was not disappointed, I bought a selection and found it hard to choose a favourite, coffee being a flavour I can't resist the Tiramisu came out top, carry on the good work and don't let ugly and harsh reviews get you down, xx
Cupcakes n more...
The cupcakes and other desserts (made to order) are just fantastic!!
Birthday cakes on order are just deliciously superb!!
I've been asking them to start selling Apple Pies and Mango Tarts as well.. (finger crossed) ... It was also good to see Butterfly cupcakes as part of the Surprise Hamper Basket on Koffee with Karan.... All in all.. I rate Butterfly 5/5..Well done!!
butterfly rocks !
I am really shocked at all the negative reviews about butterfly , ive been there several times and tried almost all the cupcakes and they have never ever disappointed me ... all i can think of is that the reviews are fake ..sorry "foodisgood" but seems to me like u might be lying.
THE BEST CUPCAKE EVER!!!!
I feel as though bad reviews stem from envious jealous people who would not wish anyone well in life. If they were to even attempt making a cake they would most inevitably fail. I do not even live in Mumbai and I have tasted these cupcakes. Infact i have had them flown half way across the world for me. Thats how good they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Therefore Butterfly..don't let these bad reviews get you down. People do not know how to appreciate a good thing esp in India.....TIRAMISU AND RED VELVET ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just keep doing what you're doing and keep up the great work!!!! Don't let meaningless reviews from meaningless people affect you!!!
Seriously Rancid Buttercream
Well... I thought I was the only one left with a bad taste in my mouth after tasting cupcakes from Butterfly... I have friends who raved about them.. so thought might as well try them... they looked good so though will pick up some for the family... BIG MISTAKE!!!...
bought 6 .. 2 guys were manning the counter.. I asked them how long before I have to refrigerate them? his answer shocked & surprised me... he said I dont need to refrigerate them... keep them out for 4-5 days and nothing will happen.... If they hire people who know nothing about shelf lives of food products, I had serious concerns for the consumers of these confections...
thinking I'd give it a taste before I unleash them on unsuspecting victims, I tried eating one on my cab ride home.... took 1/2lt of water and 2 mints to stop myself from puking... the buttercream was rancid & the cake was so dry, it did nothing to mask the horrible taste.. god alone knows when those cupcakes were made... and if I had taken the advice of those guys at Butterfly, I sure would have landed at the hospital with food poisoning... Please, please avoid!!! better to go someplace where they care about their customers than just sales and fake publicity...
ps: did I forget to mention wasting rs500+ for 6 cupcakes... X(
The worst cupcake ever!!
I landed up at Butterfly and was so excited to have the cupcakes..
so well, landed up getting 4 cupcakes and all of them were so horrible, from the classic cupcake to the 2 fancy ones that i picked up for 100 bucks each.. absolute waste of money, actually wasted all of them,, highly over priced and overrated..
A pleasant surprise!
Even after reading some of these not so great reviews about this place, i went and got myself 4 cupcakes from butterfly..A vanilla flavoured, strawberries and cream, red velvet and the signature cupcake. I must say that i was completely impressed with the way the looked as well as how they tasted overall...the red velvet sponge could have been made better by proportioning the ingredients in a better way, but the cream cheese frosting was lovely...the vanilla sponge was flawless...so was the signature chocolate sponge and frosting...but what i liked the most was the strawberry n cream cupcake...it had a fresh cream and strawberry topping that worked beautifully with the moist vanilla sponge and the strawberry filling...i hope these aren't just available as Christmas specials..they should be available year round as they are just great.
Lesson on how not to make cup cakes
As publicised as this little place in Khar is for it's cupcakes, I thought it would be worth a visit.
Little did I know, that "cupcakes" can go so wrong! If nothing else, cupcakes can atleast look pretty. But, not here, with its clumsy large swirl of frosting on top. Extra-sugar than required for it's size!
The cake as the base is a big let-down as well. So overall, the two components just do not work. It shows, it lacks any expertise on food and aesthetics front.
Definitely not reaching out to one of these again!
Great American Style Cupcakes
I have to say as an expat, I was thrilled when I found Butterfly. I see several negative reviews here and a lot have to do with the texture or quality of the cake. This is the type of cake I was raised on (in the US) and it's perfect. The best cake I've had for sure in India and at the top end of all the cakes I've had even in the US. The quality and type of cake is VERY different than that over-moist, spongy cake that most Indian cakes are. So if you are looking for something different then the cakes you get in all the other stores in India, try Butterfly! It really is the best.
Arrogance wont take them anywhere....
This was my first attempt at tryin a diifferent place for my wife's bday.... Had read some rave reviews in recent papers regarding Butterfly.... (mayb they have good media contacts)... had ordered for a chocolate giant cake....had no idea of how the cake would be..so told the owner to make it the way she wanted it to be....but was very disappointed when i had the first bite of the cake.... the cake was not very soft from inside and had a powdery taste in it.....it was very dry and very sweet...informed the owner about it and was shocked to hear her reply... She told me that this is the first complaint we have received and im sorry we cant pay you back.(had never asked for any sort of refund)....then she tells me that maybe your taste is different from others....
very much arrogant.....no bloody regret.......buterfly i hope u fly real high....
Like Cupcakes? Avoid this place!
What was meant to be the sweet end of a long wait turned out to be one giant damp squib. Crusty sponge, icing reminiscent of the good ol' Irani cafe pastry days are NOT what anyone with half a taste bud would really expect. The only saving grace was perhaps the chocolate ganache that's filled in their signature cupcake.
I'd say get the Red Velvet cupcake from Candies if you don't wanna get turned off cupcakes forever.
and DO NOT take a girl there for the first time.. she'll hate you forever.
went to this plc the other day and i mus say i was totally impressed. they hav a great variety and the cupcakes r the best ive had till date!!! mah friends and i digged into strawberry cream which was their special i guess. and chocolate caramel and hazelnut swirl and my favvvv lemon burst!!! bravo.
i love it
jellington .. i completely agree with you .. i think its awesome that i can go to butterfly and walk out with mindblasting cupcakes and a smile .. personal favourites .. peanut butter n jelly :) and the choconilla baaaby ..
im not sure where the bad reviews are coming from because everytime i walk into the shop i feel like eating everything ..
i feel happy when i walk in cause of the aroma of freshly baked cupcakes and the fantabulous colours ..
good job guys .. bandra needed you :)
All the thumbs go down!
I'd been here some time ago. My friend and I decided to try the chocolate pastry. It look so sumptuous & tempting that we decided we'd share the pastry and go for one similar. The cake was stale, the 'spongy' layer of the cake was oh-so-not spongy. The chocolate wasn't fresh either. We had to eat it for the price we paid, and in fact wasted it,because it so din't feel like it was edible, and dint even opt for the tart and just left. How can a bakery possibly go wrong with a cake? Time you wake up and realize, cakes/pastries/muffins etc aren't all about looking good, it should please the heart and mind and above all give you the sugar rush. Shame on thou!
PS: There are a lot of fake reviews coming into burrp, which i rather feel is uneithical, they totally mislead you about the place,it's service, ambiance etc etc,They join burrp on some day and give reviews about just ONE particular place on some day which totally have a different story to say,on top of it,they have the gumption to contravene the others have to say.
And it's even more shocking that there a bunch of people who do this for every other joint listed here and has been getting terrible reviews. You notice, the same way of typing. Gosh, people who review here aren't a bunch of retards,if burrp is going to allow fake spammers come and spam the website, then genuine people like us who take out time to write reviews would actually quit wanting to write honest reviews. This is the 3rd to 4th time i have observed in 4 different listed places, such things have been happening. Burrp,You guys should actually keep a watch and stop such things from happening ,or the people wanting earnest reviews would have to re - consider believing what is actually written here.
I walked in with my mum (who makes wedding cakes on a high end scale) and we were delighted to see the variety. The place is small and a take away joint. It's hotter than outside, there is NO fan and/or a.c. so your sweat may hinder your decision.
We got 5 cupcakes: Triple Choc, Hazelnut Swirl, Peanut butter and Jelly, carrot cupcake and the red velvet. We paid around Rs.375.
Money is not a problem when something looks good AND tastes good. The presentation of the cupcakes were beautiful but the taste was disgusting. Some of the cupcakes had rancid flour (like I said earlier my mother bakes on a large scale) it left a bitter sour taste which wasnt washed down with water or sprite. And the other cupcakes just tasted like cake. It was not light or fluffy like cupcakes should be. I would say log onto www.tart.co.in and order your cupcakes. This place was a rip off of 'Tart' which btw has the most scrumptious cupcakes.
It's a shame coz Bandra really needed a cupcake place, too bad this isn't it.
