Never coming back to this place.

We Visited Café Mondegar two weeks ago. We ordered for two pints of Heineken beer along with a roast chicken. Got our pints but there was no sign of our chicken. After waiting for 45 minutes, the waiter said we didn't order any roast chicken...started to show us as we were lying. Pissed off by this, we stood up and went to settle our bill. For this pathetic experience, i didn't leave any tip for him. To that the waiter shamelessly demanded a tip. This was seriously not expected from a place like Mondegar.

Because of this disgusting experience, Mondegar has lost a customer in my name.

go to place for a fun time. "mondis" as its called serves Continental food. food is not all that its known for, but also its good taste in music. its one of those few places that have a juke box, letting their customers take over the music. its a fun filed place, just right to go for a good time.

Ripoff, bad food

This is really bad now, not at all what it used to be. My friend ordered a draught beer which was totally flat. When we complained the waiter just poured the beer into a new glass to try to prove it was carbonated and essentially refused to replace it. So then my friend ordered some pints of Hoegaarden. It costs 100-150 rs in a liquor store. They billed us Rs.675 per pint. That is so wrong on a moral level. The markup isn't so bad even in developed countries.

I ordered a chicken sandwich which tasted awful and it was soggy, the bottom part was sticking to the plate.

The only thing they delivered as advertised was my coffee.

It was packed as usual and very crowded, more chaotic than lively vibe though. They wouldn't have managed to ruin our time if only they had got the sandwich and beer right. I understand that shit happens with food but refusing to replace a flat beer is bad form. Never going back here.

Disappointed

Went here on the weekend prior to New Year's Eve. Yes, it was crowded, but I determine the quality of a place by how well it can keep up under pressure. And it felt like Mondy's buckled. I'd been with friends and the waiter you served us was awful. Uncouth, arrogant, poor listener - choice qualities desired in a waiter, yes?
The worst bit was when we left after one order of appetizer (which was our last choice, considering the first four weren't available at 3pm) he got me the bill. I payed by card, and as per the new guidelines, I would need to punch in my PIN number. And he decided to pace up this process, by asking me to write my PIN number down. On his little worn book. My Debit Card PIN number. Which is the same as my ATM Pin Number. I didn't know if I should smirk or scoff. I refused, and went on to punch in my digits. When I returned, he was waiting. To let me know that Service Charges weren't added to the bill. Now I know waiters want a tip, and sometimes deserve one. This one didn't, and even if I had a consideration, it flew away when he demanded one.

A place to hangout with friends

Haven't been to this place for a long time now, but I still do remember those days when we friends used to chill out. The ambiance is just something which draws you to this place. The jukebox and the chilled beer and some chitchat with friends is what you will remember for lifetime. The food is not that great but if you are looking for spending some great time with friends over a couple of drinks, then don't miss this place.

Colaba's FAVOURITE - who hasn't heard of Mondy's and Leo's! Love everything about this place. Right from the graffiti on the walls, to the jukebox, to the sumptuous breakfast, to the sangrias, to the beer towers, to the yummy finger food and upto to the mains!

Great Place for friends

Be it for breakfast , lunch, dinner or even a mid time snack, it has to be accompanied by beer and music from the jukebox! The breakfast is great, with the english breakfast being my favourite - bacon, ham, sausages and eggs - its the ideal way to start a lazy Sunday morning. The food is a good compliment to the beer, and thei Italian and continental fare is pretty good. This was the first place I had bacon wrapped prawns and was not disappointed. Its a favourite, and have spent close to 8 hours at one table, on a Sat, and yet there is never the chance of getting bored.

Retro music and beer - can't get better

I used to pass by this place for the past ten years, but finally ended up going there for a drink only last month. I was very pleasantly surprised by the casual and retro feel to the place. The music brought back great memories, and the beer was chilled and fresh. The food could've been a less oily and more healthy. Had a pleasant time at this place.

An old favourite that never goes out of fashion

I've lost count of the number of times I've been here, yet there's something welcoming about Mondy's that draws you here every single time.

By now I have my list of favourites - Garlic mushrooms, King Prawn tempura and the Kheema naan. All of them or at least one is a must during any visit. And yes, it all has to be washed down with pitchers of draught beer. That is just an absolute must here.

Hi Guys,

Monde's is the place to be. If you are in town I mean in colaba then its must be place. The buzz here is amazing and the place is just filled with beautiful people. The table menu is cool for 1st timers and the ambiance is so cool. The food is good, the staff is always smiling and be it pouring or a sunny day or a weekday it always a good time to hit Monde's. Try the chilly paneer and potato chips with some beer, it'll make your day. Cheers

Always Looking Forward to the Next Visit

What can I say; this is one of the joints that has stood the test of time. It was happening during our fathers' times and it’s still a happening place today. Fresh beer, great food, peppy interiors, friendly staff and a jukebox are pretty much the charm of Café Mondegar. Also, if you’re not the “I don’t drink during the day” types, Mondegar’s (lovingly known as Mondy’s) is one of the few places that serves fresh beer at 10 am. My regular favorites here are the Grilled Chicken Sausages, Mondy’s Steak Boti, and Chicken Sausages in Chilly Garlic, all of which are wins. I highly recommend these appetizers. Once you’re done glugging and nibbling, I recommend the Pollo Alla Pepe or the Polo Corden Bleu to finish it off. If you’re not a drinker or if you’re a vegetarian, you’re sill safe because Mondy’s is an all-rounder. I am a regular here and the place has not once disappointed me. Expected damages for two are around 3000 bucks.

Sandwiched between two elaborate accessory shops around a corner at Colaba Causeway, the entrance to Cafe Mondegar is hard to miss.

Having heard a lot about it earlier, my first visit came very close or even bettered my expectations of this place. As you enter,  You are greeted with some great music, colorful interiors and amazing Mario Miranda paintings on the wall with a captivating ambiance. As you get accustomed to the compact and the chaotic atmosphere, you come across the staff which happens to be extremely friendly.
Decent service speed and amazing non veg food. A little on the expensive side but as you will begin to eat their dishes, you 'll realize it's all definitely worth it. Now, a pitcher of Shangria is all you need to enhance your visit to Mondegar.

Not a place for elaborate dining or big groups, but probably one of the best places to hang out in Mumbai at anytime of the day.
Also, don't listen to people who say its not a date place. Take her to Mondy's to blow her mind away. I can vouch for it to happen :)

Old , quaint and superb!

Been to this place many time. Very easy to spot and known by most taxi drivers, this place has been a mumbai favourite since it's inception.

The food here is hit and miss, though what I really love here is the burger and fries. It's so meaty and juicy! The beer here is always cold and electic music from an old jukebox plays on.

The wall is covered with drawing by a renowned goan artist and this place is over flowing with hippies and foreigners! Come here for the ambience, people, music , stories and experience not for the food!

Overrated.

Decided to go for breakfast, seeing the price of a couple of fancy eggs and toast(Rs 250), decided to order main course.

We ordered the Pollo Alla Pepe (Chicken steak, Rs 320), Bistecca Alla Peppe/Funghi(Beef steak, Rs 350), and 2 Mondy's special Beef Burgers(Rs 240 each).

Beef steak: Well cooked meat with a generous amount of pepper and garlic sauce. The meat was very tender and melted in the mouth. Brilliant stuff. The fries were good too, though minimal in quantity. The boiled carrot was kinda salty though.
Chicken steak: Cooked well, but that bone was depressing. Who expects a bone in a steak!
Burgers: Felt like steak in buns.

At that price, 1 would expect a decent serving portion, sadly, that wasn't there. Talking about the ambiance, there is a fancy jukebox which plays you 3 songs for 50 bucks. I wonder why this place is that famous. It surely isn't worth the amount spent there for sure.

Mondegar beats Leopold

Mondegar beats Leopold hands down in every way. One is a cramped shithole run by a grouchy old bastard who has compunctions with "overserving" a paying patron. The other is Mondegar.

Be it the all day breakfast, pitchers of Sangria or a pint of Stella this place always hits the right spot. Great laid back, casual vibe & decor. Very unhurried and relaxed even though it's fully occupied most of the time. Most importantly the staff are friendly and serve your poison with a smile (no hard liquor though). I always tip big here.

The best beer cafe in Mumbai

Love, love, LOVE Monde's! Admitted, it isn't cheap but if you're looking for a noisy, cheerful place with a great crowd and good music then this is the right place to go to. The first thing that grabs your attention are the walls - full of Mario Miranda cartoons! And there's a big ol' jukebox in the corner that gives it a nice retro chic look. Although the place is cramped, really cramped I don't care. The food is good but nothing to write home about. What you should really come here is for the ambiance. If you're not a fan of loud places, there's a "tavern" inside the cafe itself - quieter and has AC - but honestly, outside is where all the fun is :)

Has gone down SO BADLY

I would look forward to visiting Mondys earlier.... but these days the crowd is so pathetic there! The beer is always warm, the waiters are always rude and the manager at the gate cant even greet you with a smile.... unless you are a gora or with a group of women (Not to blame him, but these days the single male crowd coming there has definitely become much sadder) , the same old music is beaten to death on the jukebox. Well....it looks like this once smoky-noisy-happy and cheerful place is now down and out!

Food is Average N not worth the price..shud improve on the portion size for sure.
But HAVEN for Beer Lovers !! we had 3 fillers of the Tube Beer N sat there for almost 2.5 hrs. Music is Loud But Good collection

On 2nd thoughts one will not regret visiting this place . n we've been frequenting this N cafe Leopold since ages !!

This place is ace!

There is no better place to roll up your sleeves after a day at work and catch up with friends. One of the few places in town which combines great food, drinks and music. They have a jukebox where you can play your own kind of music. The staff is jolly and prompt. They would effortlessly remember you from your previous visit. The setting of this place at the beginning of colaba causeway is perfect. It is always lively, even on weekdays. It is sort of a landmark in south Mumbai, hence I always take my friends, who are new to town, here. They also have awesome goodies to purchase as knick knacks. A visit to town seems incomplete without being here!

Great place to chill out with friends

Everyone knows where mondegar is, it is a landmark in itself.

There is always a certain buzz in this place, when ever you go there you can feel the noise here, for someone new it might sound like noise but once you go there a couple of times you get used to it.

The menu is actually pasted onto your table and the waiters are also helpful, order some starters drinks and you can enjoy any matches ( live) or sports channels which are put up on the TV while talking with friends.

The Paneer and Mushroom tikka's are good and even the Chinese rice items are a safe option to wash down your drinks.

The best par about this place is you can actually look at what's happening on the road as well when you sit inside. frequented by a LOT of foreigners, this is one of the most happening pubs in town.

Share:

Good place for beer and chat

This place, along with Leopold's, is very much in demand on weekends. While Leo's has various British-era paraphernalia, Mondy's features the sketched of famous cartoonist Mario Miranda. They offer draft beer and also Bacardi Breezers, and with this you can order potato chips, fish fingers and various other snacks. In the good old 1980's they had a jukebox that played "Hotel California" a dozen times each evening, not sure if that is still the case. Not a place for elaborate dining.

Best pub in town...

A regular at what comes closest to a pub in south Bombay, I find Mondy a safer bet anyday compared to its overhyped twin Leopold next door, particularly when it comes to the food... the endless queue is a bit of a shame though... and we could do with a bit more variety when it comes to the beer... but what the hell... I've always had the best of Friday nights out here...

In a happy place with some good food and music...

Going to this for almost five years now (or is it more??). Always give me a feel that I'm sitting in an Irani cafe in the middle of a goan town!!!

Food is simple and non-fussy. Always stick to non-veg and mostly Chinese. Although, sad to say that quantity has reduced in line with prices.

Well, pricing is in mid-range - not burning hole but not making it a daily place either. Portions are sufficed for one person, but the taste is the master key. Whether for breakfast or lazy lunch with music and beer; Mondy is the place to be if you are in the neighborhood.

The breakfast menu is excellent and choices / preparation is perfect. Good for Sunday brunch

Good ambience and juke box. Yummy breakfast. Its popularly known as Mondy's by all, is a cool place to hang out. Be it any time of the day u can actually land up in Mondys with friend. Biased!

I have been to this place 3 times and had not so pleasant experiences each time.
The first time I went with college friends on a normal weekday. We sat in the inner room. The service was not great as they took very long to serve us.
The second time again I went with friends, this time on New Year's Eve 2012. After spending more than half an hour outside waiting (an obvious common scene everywhere for NYE), we finally got seats in the inner room again. However, this night it was jam packed. The tables had all been lined next to each other in order to accommodate as many as possible. So having once sat down, it would have been impossible to get up. Tables had to be shared with others and if one person wanted to get up, the others would have to as well to make space, including people from the next table. Anyway, we didn't mind all that as we had come to enjoy the New Year's Night and have a great time.
However, owing to the burgeoning crowds, the pressure seemed to take its toll on the waiters. They were not particularly friendly this night. Every time we finished a drink they assumed we were done and were ready to bring the bill. We noticed this happening to just us as we were two college kids. They seemed to want to drive us away in order to accommodate 'bigger' and 'better' (read bill payers). Initially they were only hinting, but eventually one particular waiter went to the extent of brazenly telling it to our face that "there are more people waiting outside". I thought that was outright rude and insulting. I resolved to stay definitely past beyond mid-night and ordered another Tower, to their very apparent dismay.
When it was minutes before midnight, the manager and the waiter came in with masks and party hats for everyone seated. And very coolly they looked at us and ignored us, and did not give us the masks and hats, while ensuring everybody else got them.
Even though we ignored the insult to avoid spoiling the festive spirit, we were surely offended. When the time came for the bill, we had only SBI Debit cards. The same waiter saw it, made a face and said oh it cannot be accepted, they don't use it. We were dumbfounded but obviously having no other option told him to try, which he did, giving a look of condescension. He returned after a while with my card, and the bill paid.
We left immediately, with no greetings from the waiter or the manager.
Clearly poor service to customers, in this case us..and I really don't have any idea for reason whatsoever! Was it just because we were college-going kids? It beats me till date. 'Coz next time I went with my brother-in-law, and faced no such issues at all!
Truly offended for the New Year night, and on my list of places I wouldn't go to again.

Everything that we ordered was good. I especially liked the onion rings with schezwan sauce.
The pricing is also moderate and they do offer a good choice of liquor as well.

An old favourite

Be it for breakfast , lunch, dinner or even a mid time snack, it has to be accompanied by beer and music from the jukebox! The breakfast is great, with the english breakfast being my favourite - bacon, ham, sausages and eggs - its the ideal way to start a lazy Sunday morning. The food is a good compliment to the beer, and thei Italian and continental fare is pretty good. This was the first place I had bacon wrapped prawns and was not disappointed. Its a favourite, and have spent close to 8 hours at one table, on a Sat, and yet there is never the chance of getting bored.

Great for Breakfast

Always wanted to try out Mondys on a Sunday morning. So, last Sunday, headed to this place early - reached by about 8.45 am. I believe it opens at 8.30 am.

Settled down to a Mondy's Super Breakfast (set menu) - shared it with my kiddo. The bacon was excellent and the juice fresh. The omlette was fluffy. Wifey had a french toast - nice and soft, but too bland for me - you can add the honey on it as well. Was still feeling hungry since my kiddo decided to have more of the breakfast than me. So ordered for the Kheema Ghotala. Nice hot mince with eggs, and 2 pavs. Spicy and wakes you up completely. Finished off with another juice (kiddo), espresso (wifey) and tea (me).

Total bill - approx. Rs. 500. Service is prompt, friendly and efficient.

We then headed for the Vintage Car Rally Flag Off from Horniman Circle - an excellent Sunday morning.

Great place to have a Sunday breakfast - get there early bcos all the tables are gone by 9.30 am.

Best place to kickstart your weekends !

have been going to Mondy's since 1997 , The place has a flavour and charm which is unmatched , the real standout would be the cluttered seating (has a very cosy feel) and the regularly updated Juke box ... just keep on tanking up on the Beer -by the pitcher and munch on the superb snacks, Chilly cheese toast tops the list . I have spent many friday evenings and have really enjoyed every moment here.
Staff is very quick and receptive and deserves special mention...

Being in Love with Mumbai City

People love Mumbai for many reasons. I love Mumbai because I was seventeen when I moved here. It was the first time I was living away from my family. The little droplets of water rolling down the neck, only a pint of chilled beer at Mondy’s can beat the afternoon heat. Then again, why would I go for that pint of beer at Café Mondegar when I can get my Heineken straight from the keg? Have you ever thought why people are always swarming into Mondy’s? What is it about this place that even on a Tuesday afternoon it is buzzing with excitement? It spells life with the cartoons on the walls, the juke box, the pitcher of beer and the big bowl of noodles. Café Mondegar is not a restaurant it is a way of life. It is the way we love living. Many Mumbaikars cannot stop with their stories about that night at Mondy’s and that day they spent drinking beer at Mondy’s to get over the previous night’s hangover. As A. and I were sharing our stories about mingling at Mondy’s, a new story was unfolding itself before us that afternoon; a story that we will be telling in the years to come.

The first time I had been to Mondy's I had found a hair in my food. Each time after that the food was great and hairless. I remember college days and month-ends with money crunch. It was when I fell in love with Bagdadi, with Beer in Mondy’s, with Kulfi Falooda and with Mumbai city.

Go for the feel of it!

Visit Mondies for the ambeince, the beer, the Juke box, the chilly cheese toast, the murals, the Mondegar collectibles, and the wholesome Mondies Special Breakfast (the staff is extremely chirpy and friendly in the mornings... Perfect way to begin your day!)

Basically, the lovely feel of bustling Mumbai, not particularly the food.

Late Afternoons here are great

Nightlife is a waste of life. Real life is when the sun is out and the the beer is right. The beer at Mondegar is great. The place is cluttered, but that is the charm. Everything about this place has a charm. Right from the table setup to the frscos on the walls to the people queing outside the place to the cashier at the counter. And most importantly the music is where it scores over Leopold by a lot.

The food is average. I did not try a variety to provde with a honest review on the food. its a 50-50 result. The chesse balls wern't great, but the Sandwich was great.

Service for majority of the time was great except at the time of departure. Tipping is not a trend, nor is it a sign that you liked the service/food or did not like the service / food. Its purely individual choice. It is rude on the server to stare at the empty cheque folder as there was no tip presented.

But at the ned of the day, I like the food and the service and will be back, and that is a truely tipping a great allround eatery.

Mondys brings a smile to my face

I would say that Mondys is a much better alternative to Leopold. It has a better ambiance, classier patrons and no firang gawkers.

The oh-so-mumbaiish murals on the walls, retro songlist on its jukebox and ever-ready-to-befriend patrons (a first in my experience of Mumbai's nightlife) make up for the not-so friendly waiters, which is expected at such a fast turnaround spot.

The beer available here is different types and quantities of Kingfisher. A mug costs Rs 140. Apart from that, you can order from a limited wine list.

We ordered a mouth watering chicken starter and continental chicken main course meals. The total damage from two persons was Rs 1090.

For social drinkers, this is as good as it can get!

and it didn't disappoint.!

well ambiance is pretty chilled out...with cartoon caricatures adorning the walls with mondegar memorabilia..

obviously the theme of the place is mixing good food and beer..well it doesn't disappoint on both counts..

i tried the beef Ala supreme...and chicken stroganoff...!

esp the stroganoff !

Cheesilious 3.5 / 5

Finally entered this doyennes of Colaba. Usually always landed up at either it's more famous neighour Leopold's or the foodie delight Churchill.

Ambiance: It's a very chilled out place with decent music catering to college and tourist crowd. A place to go enjoy with a bunch of people rather than for conversation unless you don't mind your neighbors knowing your intimate details. The tables are too close but since I went when it was practically empty it didn't matter.

Food: Ordered the bruschetta and a main which consisted of vegetables with rice in a paprika sauce. Cheesilious and very Indianized but yum nonetheless.

Service: Even though the place was almost empty the service was average but then you don't go to Mondy's for the service.

Overall a chilled out place to hangout just like Leopolds.

Strictly OK Food. Awful Customer Service

A friend and I went to Mondy's since we had heard a lot about the place and were keen to try it out. What we ended up having was a very underwhelming experience.

Firstly, the tables are squished ridiculously close against each other. A tactic to maximise seating capacity, perhaps. It's so cramped, getting up from your seat and getting back is an exercise in cracking a maze puzzle. And you are still unlikely to reach your table without squeezing against a table/chair, or worse, another customer. (And I am not exaggerating. Trust me.)

The food was strictly OK. The steak we ordered was only mildly warm by the time it reached the table. My friend ordered a veg sandwich and believe me, the roadside sandwiches which are sold at 1/5th the price are far better.

The waiters were a mixture of rude and snobby, and gave the impression that they'd rather spend their precious time on the foreign customers in the cafe.

Even the washroom was very cramped. Keeping in the overall theme of the restaurant, I guess.

The only saving grace was the good artwork on the walls.

Ambience: 5/5
Music: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Food Quantity: 3/5
Food Quality: 4/5
Food Pricing: 3/5

Mondy's has been my fav since my College days in Xavier's. The music is awesome, this was the first place i know of that has an ambience like it does. Today a lot of places over the city have copied the graffiti present here. The food quality is pleasing although i feel they can do much better. The Alco available comes in good quantity and reasonably priced compared to Leopold's or other places around town. The food quantity needs to do justice to its prices. The Service was nice and everyone wears smiles like it's part of their KRA's. I love dropping in after an exhausting shopping spree down Colaba Lane. Will still stay as one of my fav's. Advise - Don't hesitate on trying out variant dishes, its worth it. Ask for suggestions and you won't be let down.

Like it, Don't love it

Being a townnie, Cafe Mondegar or Mondy's (as it is popularly known as) holds a lot of memories, mostly from the school / college days. This was, and for some still is, a very hep joint to just hang out, have a pitcher or two of beer and listen to the awesome classics in their Jukebox. Over the years, unfortunately, I feel this place is losing its charm. The quality of food, largely snacks, have gone down drastically, you end up standing on the path outside for hours at a stretch waiting for people to vacate tables, weekends are a nightmare and the songs in the Jukebox, don't seem to have changed much over the years.

I personally like the place, but then its not a place I will go to very often to chill out!

My review of the place:

Staff/ Service: alright, nothing to exceptional - 3 Stars

Food: same old; hardly much has changed - 2 Stars

Ambience: the only saving grace - 4.5 Stars

Love Hate Love

The thing with this place is.. it doesn't want u in.. cos there are many like u.. but none like it... I remember the place from college days when the no. of tables were less and u cud walk around easily.. But who cares...
The music is awesome with the kinda people that woody old CD flipping Jukebox attracts...
The kinda place that makes u drink more and talk even more.. and loud of course..Not the kinda place where u take somebody for a date.. but definitely have a reunion of the one's u've dated to date...m sure every single one of dem will forgive u after an hour
Cheers to Mondys

Great western food but lacking good service

The food at Mondegar's is pretty great. I"ve had the pasta, egg and mayo sandwich, the fish and chips, the grilled chicken and fries, and the spaghetti Bolognese here. I would definitely recommend all of them as the food was spot on, with no hint of indo-western cooking :)

However, unfortunately, the service doesn't quite come up to standard. When the waiter was asked something specific regarding the meal served, he replied with "i don't know". I asked him if he could ask the chef or the resto manager and then he said " no no, they also don't know. why don't you choose something else?" ..I insisted some more, he turned away, and smirked (visibly) ,turned back and just say "No" to in reply to what was asked.
i dont think its up to the waiters to decide what we, the customer, would like to eat..Its fine to give suggestions of course, but there is a decent way to do that. Some of the waiters there really lack common decency, and for a place like mondegar's ,it a shame.. Good food and not so good service do not go hand in hand.

So, overall, id rate Mondegar as follows.
Food: 4****
Ambience: 2**
Service: 1*
Value for money: 4****
So overall, thats actually 2.5*s from me..
I hope management can insist waiter treat customers with a slightly higher level of respect or candor at the least.

Mondegar is a name which needs no introduction its one of the most awesome places to visit with friends....No matter how much noise there is around you this place still seems to have this unexplainable ability to make ppl forget about the outside and just enjoy the moment....A must visit for all the beer lovers.

Fond Memories

Old world charm!!! I have fond memories of this place from my younger days. I was pleased to see that not much has changed over the years at this place, even after the dreaded attack in the region! This includes their menu, which is the only disappointing part. An amazing place to just hang around with old pal's over some pitchers of beer and classic music from their Juke Box. Oh yes, it's good to see that there is still a huge waiting outside this place; although it does get a bit irritating after a while.

okie dokie

I have been to cafe Mondegar around 6 times now. Every time i go i order beer and the grilled sausages first and later on to the main course. The food is moderately priced and so is the booze. The service is ok as not many places would place a beer mug on a coaster. Though it gets on you nerves when they tend to give the foreigners more attention and leave out the rest of the Indian crowd. I love the juke-box. It has some awesome songs in it.
So in short apart from their service (which i suppose is a 5 star rating from foreigners) they seem decent enough. :D

Huge Letdown

This was my 2nd visit to Mondegar and what a letdown it was! I liked the experience last time even though nothing stood out! But this time has probably ensured that it is my last!
We were royally ignored by the waiters! There was a big group of foreigners that their attention was focused on!
First it took forever to get their attention and place the order! Then it took another eternity to get the food which was not even hot!
If I wasn't as hungry as I was, I would've probably walked out right then!
Sorry but you need to step up!

One and only

No other place comes close....the sheer vibe and feel of the place is unmatched even in a city like mumbai, or the whole country.....cheap beer, spicy non-veg, jukebox and a crowded place where you have to push your way through. The ones who are takers for such places will love mondegar's....there's no other. incidentally, the breakfast is also good and dirt cheap

Should be renamed to the "Elbow Room" :-P

Went to Mondy's this weekend. I'm not a regular here and i was visiting the place after years. Although the place hasn’t changed much , the seating has. Tables are so close to each other that you almost end up elbowing the adjoining tables and end up eavesdropping on their conversations. But i guess the popularity of the place is such that people are quite happy to sacrifice these minor inconveniences for an evening of beer filled awesomeness. The staff is very courteous and prompt . The rates are far more reasonable than Leo's , and you dare not miss the awesome murals by Goa's renowned artist Mario Miranda that adorn the walls . Look closely and you will see the hidden gems and intricacies in this wonderful creation. Although we didn’t eat much (as we were on a beerfest) , we did try out the fries and onion rings , and they were really good. There's a retro styled jukebox in the corner that adds to the retro feel of the place. In all, its a great place to down a few cold ones and have a great evening with friends. Saturday evenings tend to be a bit crowded.. so hop in before 6pm if you dont wanna spend the rest of your evening waiting for a table to get free :D

The graffiti on the wall makes me remember my college hangout where we had jim morrison all over the wall. This is a cool place to grab a beer and hangout with friends. Give it a try, though like any other pub, it's quite crowded and getting a table would be daunting.

Relive Old times

Cafe Mondegar, popularly known as "Mondy's" has always been my favorite hang out place in Mumbai. As someone rightly said, its not about the food or the beer here; its about memories, creating and re-living them over the years. Everytime I am in Mumbai this is one place (along with Leopold, just down the same ally) that I have on my must visit list. I have had some amazing times in this awesome place, from the early morning 'sunny side eggs & bread' with Beer for breakfast to a complete 'beer binge' with college pals to just a laze around evening with some tea and cookies, Mondy's has been the place.

The service here is very chilled out, the servers really nice and warm with all guests, the food is just perfect, the ambience amazing, the pricing just perfect and amongst the chitter-chatter of the guests here, you have a Jukebox to give you company with some amazing Classic music playing in the background. (ofcourse one has to purchase coins from the counter and then select the song they would like to listen to!).

The most interesting thing about this place is that, irrespective of the time of day, this place is flooded with people inside as well as outside on the road waiting to get tables. And they do not have a policy of reservations, so one has no option but wait for a table here.

For those who have never been here, I strongly suggest that when in Mumbai, you have to come here and have a "Mondy's Experience". For visitors, your trip to Mumbai is not complete unless you visit Mondy's (and ofcourse Leopold Cafe as well).

Kudos to the team here and the guys who run this place. I will be back here soon; that's a promise! :)
