Went here with some business colleagues recently. They have made many changes here. They have removed to sofas and made room for more tables. It does look less elegant than before but looking at the crowd it sure seemed like a good business decision. It was full as ever especially with the Bohri community. And I think the crowd is well deserved. I ordered the Paneer Shashlik sizzler which was brilliant. It was actually sizzling hot and not just 'sizzling noise by the butter on the hot plate'! I order it with noodles which were full of flavor. The veggies made a healthy addition to the sizzler. To stay away from any guilt I stayed away from the fries! NExt time gonna make that mashed potatoes!
Sizzlersssss, it was long overdue and we decided to barge here with a group of friends...
Starters: Nachos (creamy, cheesy, yum)
Paneer Cheesy Kebab... uuuhmmmmmm just melted in our mouths, super delicious
and finally we had the Cheese Chilli Toast (kinda OK)
So after finishing our cheesy starters we hit it on to the mains Sizz Sizz Sizzlerssss... (and sadly we forgot to click pics as we were totally lost in the sizzling aroma of our dishes)
We ordered 1 Cottage Cheese Shaslik, 1 Ground to Round & 1 Chicken Pepper Steak (all super se uper) totally worth it, perfect taste, perfect seasoning,, perfect sauces....PERFECT!!
Great place... :D
cafe royal has an amazing ambiance. this place has a style of its own and only if you visit this place will you really understand!! cafe royal being famous for its sizzlers, we tried the chicken patty sizzler and absolutely loved it!!!! we had a great time there and plan on visiting cafe royal soon!! and yes we received a discount on our final bill since we made our reservations through URBANRESTRO!
Took a minute to get seated as the cafe was busy but my food arrived extremely quickly. I ordered the Pasta Arriabatta which was good, though their Sizzler plates are really what this locale is known for. Service was attentive and rapid for the whole meal. Only con was that this place is expensive - but really no more so than any of the others in this popular area so you can hold that against it.
Sizzlers are their signature dish
Best thing about this place is their sizzler. You can make your own sizzler from the wide selection of sauces and patty. The sizzler is made according to the indian taste. Drinks are reasonably priced. The menu has a wide variety of cuisine from italian to continental and lot more. Each cuisine is great. But their USP is the sizzler. I have never been disappointed the quality and quantity of sizzler. I will never tire of this place. This place also has a 15% discount on citibank credit card.
A landmark cafe
A landmark cafe situation bang in the middle of Regal circle with a lovely movie influenced interior. The sizzlers are the highlight at this place and a lot of hot firang men for eye candy ;)
If you want to start with some throat warming soup you should go for the seafood broth. The mezze platter is by far the best Ive had in Mumbai, so is the Chilli Milli Jhinga, Fish Koliwada, Lamb Burger (super mouth watering). In sizzlers, you have to have the Mexican prawn Sizzler.

the most arrogant valets!!
Well thought of enjoying a nice evening to celebrate a birthday. When we reached on 2 bikes we were greeted with a valet who asked us not park cause their car customers would not get the well kept parking space. The next door Durban (kurry Club) helped us get a parking spot which convenient for the elderly accompanying us. So the change in plan it was Kurry Club that night with no regrets!!!
cafe royal has been my fav place for sizzlers since a friend took me there few years back. since then hooked on this place. starters and italian food is also very nice.
Service it amazing, sometimes little up and down when they are packed.
though little high on the pocket but nice place to visit
Go there to experience it !
Well what can i say about this place !!! Amazing food , good ambience , celebs visiting this place often, mouth watering desserts, amazing service..i can go n and on.. a truly value for money place..the nachos and the cheesy paneer kebabs are yummmmm..the sizzlers are also good..and the mixed sauce risotto is the one which u just cant resist !!! the blueberry cheesecake dessert is good.
Its got the best sizzlers i have had in the whole of Mumbai till now.
I am a vegetarian so i speak for that.
Quality of food- Very good
Money - Expensive
Service - waiters seem grumpy sometimes.
Must try - the basic veggie patty in hot garlic sauce. one sizzler enough for 2 people. Caesar's salad is also good here.
Acoustics - very very poor most restaurants today have poor acoustics resulting into extremely noisy ambiance. Please use more absorptive material in the interior planning .
bon appétit !
Amazing :D :D :D
I have heard a lot about Cafe Royal which is located in the heart of Mumbai city i.e Colaba. So i
decided to go there with my friend. Located right next to the famous pub HQs, this
place offered an amazing variety of sizzlers. I honestly am a huge fan of sizzlers as it is a good mix of
varied things served on one platter. Cafe Royal made sure that we enjoyed our sizzlers and drinks, by
playing good music and providing wonderful service. I am definitely coming here again and again and
again. Loved it!
Food Quality maintained
Bill Clinton loved and I think they have maintained the standards there as always. Went back there after maybe 2 years. The food was really good. The panner shashlik sizzler was great. Also the pepper potato was great. i think this is the most value for money place and a great place for a full meal.

Favourite go to place
I have been going to Cafe Royal for the last couple of years now and never been dissapointed. It makes a good change from going to Leopolds/Mondegars once in a while. First up, one usually gets a table. Also, the Cafe Royal steak and the steak burger are pretty good. I usually have beer, and no complaints on that front.
Its a good place to hang out in irrrespective of the size of the group.

Located at Colaba, this place well known for its sizzlers is one of my favorite places to eat. The service is impeccable, so as is the ambiance. What I love most is, no matter what time you go, even post lunch time, they will serve you with a smile. My favorite thing to order here is the chicken santa fe sizzler. The pizza here is avoidable - not a place you would wanna come for pizza. The tandoori chicken is yummy too. One thing that I do NOT recommend having here is the desserts. Avoid under all circumstances.

Hi Deepa, thank you for your feedback. We look forward to serving you again soon.
Really Yum Sizzlers
Had an excellent meal here :)
We are completely veg and were famished so decided to skip the appetizers and jump right to the main course but I must say we are not at all disappointed.
Ordered 2 sizzlers and the Veg. Stroganoff both tasted extremely good and were flavored to taste differently which is always a plus too often these days restaurants end up making things taste similar.
The service was prompt and polite and all in all it was a enjoyable experience.
With 3 Maincourses, an Ice Tea and a Sweet Lime with soda salted it came to just around 400 bucks a head and we were stuffed.
Oh I almost forgot the Brownie with Ice cream was also in this, was yum and a must try(eggless so bonus points for that)
Beef Steak :)
I love this place - I'm a regular here and each time the staff blows me away with their etiquette and their attention. SO glad that this is not a "love-you-firangi" joint.
And the best part? you can make as much noise as you like - especially if you are in a big group - the staff will not keep shushing you. The only flip-side to this is that it becomes quite impossible to have a quiet dinner for two if the place is full.
The food is a bit confusing at times - some of it is good - some of it - well could do with some revamping. The pastas need a lot of work - but the sizzlers! - Yum YUM YUM - Especially the beef steak - I believe it is called Royal Steak.
The Cordon Bleu is also a good try - so is the beef sandwich. i would prefer a lot more excitement in the starters area though - the fare is very limited.
The beverage menu also offers a very decent variety.
All-in-all a tad overpriced but the staff's welcoming smiles and the overall experience usually makes it worthwhile :)
Love the sizzlers!
Great location, main entrance & ambiance with good, mixed crowd.
Kingfisher on tap along with nice background music gets you in the right mood :)
Moving on to the food - great sizzlers & excellent molten chocolate cake (starters & pizza are nothing special)
Been here several times, been a consistently good experience. The presence of their sardarji owner is a good sign and seems to make a difference - keep it up!
warm place, excellent food
despite all the negative feedback i found here, i dared to venture out to try this joint, owing to its legacy.
the place is renovated nicely vs its old avatar, and has a bright and warm feel. we seated ourselfs on a table inside overlooking the celeb wall.
ordered a soup, mushroom cream which was not bad, for appetizer had a panner and cilantro melt, which was scrumptious, melt in mouth balls of paneer in a tangy garlic sauce. had the veggie pizza which was again crisp and the taste had the perfect balance of all flavours. The highlight of the meal was the sizzler (we ordered a cottage cheese patty in jalapeno sauce), which turned out to be superb.
They have given a new variety to the traditional sizzler menu and apart from the standards garlic pepper musroom sauce they have new sauces like sorbets and jalapeno cream etc...
this is a great place to go to.
BAD Bad experience!
I went to Cafe Royal last night with my friends for the first time after having heard so much about it since Bill Clinton stepped foot there! We were super hungry and so I called for a basic pizza with an american corn topping and my both my friends called for Penne Arabiatta with their choice of toppings...Their pasta was decent. But when my pizza came, it was all wrong. Instead of American corn they put babycorn and olives!
So I reminded the guy that I had called for a basic margherita with american corn and I don't want Olives! So the guy said ok we'll change it.
Next, he tells another guy that yeh sab olives aur babycorn nikaal aur american corn daal de. Since I heard that, I asked him not to remove and put it but make the pizza again because I really hate the taste of babycorn and olives! So he said yeah yeah and went inside the kitchen.
After 15 mins, my pizza comes. This time with double the cheese and small pieces of olives and babycorn still on it and my american corn half cooked. Plus the crust was hard!
Since I'm a foodie and since my friends were almost done with dinner, I didn't complain anymore and just ate the pizza somehow! Honestly speaking Its the worst pizza I've ever had! What makes it worse is that the guy, after me telling him also, did not bother to get the pizza made again! Just shows how they don't give a shit about good service!
I wonder if Bill Clinton had the same problem with his food, would they deal with it the same way!?!
I don't think I'd go there again and I agree with sonaki89...Royal no more!
ROYAL NO MORE!
Its very rare that my dad proposes to go out to eat...so when he said i wanna have sizzlers we chose cafe royal over yoko's n fountain sizzlers since we'd never been there....big big mistake!!!
as soon as we reached we were asked to wait for at least 45 min (for a table of 4)...so we thought lets just go to fountain sizzlers...but in less than 5 min we saw 2 groups walk out!!!! i mean i understand u dnt knw hw much time ppl wil take...but dnt say 45 min if they are jus payin the bill!!
Any case we went in and got place...it felt nice as it wasnt so cramped like yoko's...but i think that was the only nice thing about this place!
We ordered for Stuffed mushrooms...it looked nice and tempting but that was it...it was bland! The Tomato & Basil soup was nice and worth it....just then we placed orders for our sizzlers...5 min later a waiter comes and asks would you like to have any desserts!!!
The sizzlers come and our table is still not cleared off the used plates n bowls!
The schezwan cottage cheese sizzler was sooo not worth it!! it just had schezwan noodles drippin with oil...barely sizzling topped with schezwan coated paneer cubes n french beans which was barely boiled! Thats it nothing more!!i mean wat was so sizzler about it...??!! The quantity was so little that even a baby could finish it!
luckily we had ordered one make your own sizzler with veg patty n mushroom sauce which was nice...but again barely boiled vegetables..and the rice wasn't so nice...
All in all :
The damage 1773 rs that included:
nachos (pls dont order esp if ur accustomed to that likes of new yorkers or bombay blues)
2 small drinks
soda (yes we were charged separately for it!)
2 glasses of beer
2 desserts- blueberry cheesecake (which was okay could have been better) & chocolate brownie (which was nice but too sugary)
plus extremely slow and bad service!!!
im never going back there for food...might go for desserts and the ambiance

Disgusting Experience, Please shut it!
Firstly, I stay in the suburbs. Coming all the way to Colaba means its either for a long drive or for a decent dinner. Honestly, this time was for both. I went there with my girl friend and we had the most unsatisfactory restaurant experience to date. Was really easy to get the table at 8:30 PM Sunday afternoon (should have noticed the sign for what lay ahead). Called for 2 starters, Nachos and some stuffed mushrooms.
40 mins later...
After the nachos arrived which were straight out of a heat and eat packet, we went ahead to order the main course. On inquiring where the mushrooms were, the server with great confidence tells us we never ordered them. We say no problem, get us a pizza along with the sizzler as well.
20 mins later...
The sizzler arrives, was average. Yoko sizzlers..any day. 15 minutes after the sizzler is over, we call for the check because its assumed the pizza has been forgotten. Of course here the jack ass server gets our check and pizza together. We tell him we don't want it. he starts arguing. With a firm "NO" from our end, he goes away to only make us wait 10 minutes more to receive our new check.
Please understand, that customers are not supposed to be treated this way. And BTW I saw a "Burrp Approved" frame hanging on their wall. An experience at a road side dhabba would have been better!

Credit Card machine not working!!!
Went there on December 26, 2009 with my nephew who is a foodie but on the non veg side. For a Saturday night, it was surprising to get a table so easily. While I opted for the mushroom soup (it was a tad too thick for my taste), he settled for a fresh lime soda. He has a seabass picada (that is what the invoice says) and I opted for the veg sizzler. The fish he said was awesome but the portion was abysmally small. He then ordered a grilled balsamic chicken salad. We then had desserts. So far it was good. The last straw was when I got the bill. The waiter on seeing me pull out my credit card said "Sir, credit card machine is not working" My immediate reaction to him was "Fine where do I go to wash the dishes" Left him dumb founded but so was I. Here I was treating my nephew and it was embarassing to then pool in cash to pay off. Seriously in this day and age no one lugs cash around. Never was so embarassed in my life for a dinner.... Had we ordered drinks, I am sure both of us would be washing dishes for the next week or so just to pay off. Get you act in order. Not everyone is as rich as Mr. Bill Clinton (though I doubt if they would have asked him to pay:-))
i visited this place this december and was very badly let down. the burger was hard and with amul cheese slice and no salad. sizzlers was sad... kobes can beat them anyday... photocopy paper as table mats... recession....
worst : coke bottle was small sz though they charge same for big... after opening it had rust and was dt. august... no sales happening i guess... best of luck to people... suggest chk out other places... only name is left no service or food...
Refurbished and with some interesting Menu Options
Refurbished - Yes
New Menu Options - include some Pasta, Some Sandwhiches
Upto the Mark - Food wise Yes but SERVICE NEEDS A MAJOR REVAMP
Ive been to this place several times over the last three weeks,, once with family and another time with friends,,, its well lit and more likely than not youd get a table here on a Sat nite without much fuss. Given that the food is consistent in its quality and taste thats the major plus going for it
As most Mumbaikars would know this place has a rich history in that it is one of the older restaurants in So Bo... and over the years was synonymous with Great Sizzlers untill your Kobes etc came along .... they still have great sizzlers (the Sizzler with Whisky Sauce is excellent and the Chicken with Black Pepper as well) and to boot they have added some pasta options,,,,and sandwhiches
Important points that you must know ,,,
- Although you will get value for your Rupee here in quantity and taste please dont go expecting any service,,,,, some Udipis have more attentive waiters who also know their dishes...
- If you try and modify your sizzler order even a little bit,,, for example we asked only for fries and no veggies and so my order came wihtout anything but the meat sizzling,,,,,they are likely to GOOF Up.......in another case we asked for
-Except for the Molten Chocolate dessert theres nothing else worth your while,,,, for gods sake dont order the sizzling brownie,, the table next to us ordered it and it was pathetic and they complained but were met with a stony silence...
Overall I give it a THREE star rating despite all the above only because they still have good sizzlers, ,,,, and the Murial on the wall will make for interesting dinner conversation as the artist has unintentionally left you guessing for who most of the stars are looking out for the exaggerated smiling Aamir Khan, ,,, and the other ones
old-school pub is back as city's 1st all-day pub
Downstairs at Cafe Royal, you may spot a vintage telephone and retro leather sofas next to a live sandwich bar that stocks fresh bread and desserts. A few new-age dishes like the Paprika Roasted Garlic Cheese Fondue (Rs 250), creep into the dining menu. For more details
