USED TO BE MY FAVORITE PLACES ! USED TO !
1. Staff 1/5
2. Food 2/5
3. Drinks 2/5
4. Ambience 5/5
This review is more on the Novotel Hotel as a whole as well as GDV ! I was there one evening and i have had "THE WORST" experience of my life, by far. Both Novotel and GDV "used to" happen to be one of my favorite hangout places in Mumbai up until last evening, when the following happened:
1. Orders were punched in wrong
2. Greek salad was served with "STALE" feta cheese (DISGUSTING)
3. Replacement for the "Greek" salad was with "Philadelphia" cheese. I mean, i didn't call for a Cheese cake !
4. The car from Valet came back punctured !
5. Extremely rude Valet staff !
5. And I had to literally wait for 45 minutes before i gave up on the same and left the car there, requesting the manager (Mr. Ritesh Khetalpar) to have it dropped off at my work place the next day
And inspite of this episode, when i call your manager Ms. Vinita, the next day, without losing my calm, requesting for the car to be dropped off at andheri highway, she persistently tells me it is not possible because all the drivers are busy and this is also what i was told- i quote "ma'am i shouldn't say this but the car could have been punctured anywhere!". If the lady knows that she shouldn't be saying that, then she very well shouldn't say that ! Not forgetting the fact that the vehicles are not parked in Novotel premises and are parked outside, where chances of a puncture are quite high.
I am not a 1st time visitor at Novotel, and have quite frequently visited GDV, considering I get all of my international friends as well to visit there, and also recommend the place to my social circle. I asked my colleague to take his wife for their anniversary at GDV ! And if that isn't enough, I have gifted "Accor" hotel membership card to my Best friend ! BUT ONLY UNTIL NOW !
Mr. Ritesh Khetalpar was quite helpful and prompt, however, the other staff and managers are definitely not co-operative. If they cannot provide any compensation for the episode, which I am sure would have been provided by any other hotel of the same class, including Westin (which has an extremely courteous staff and very good service), all they can do is at least try and not create inconvenience for their guests !
Highly Disappointed !
I love the place
I love this place, I keep frequenting this restaurant. I lovely the chicken chiptole and the potate wedges, They have happy hours assd well. Need to be there by 17:00 and catch a table in the front to enjoy the view. Lovely music as well. Must visit place.
Sea side luxury
The place has definitely got the upscale, mediterranean coast feel working for it. Come here for an evening with your special one or with a gang of friends and a heavy wallet, and you are not going to want to leave. Something about the beach and the breeze I imagine makes time stand still. Mumbai has quite a few alternatives for seaside drinks and food, but some would say they are all second to GDV!
This place gets a 4 for the ambiance. You get transported to Goa but within the luxury of a 5 star. You can stare at the sea endlessly and if there's good wind it only adds to it. You can sit for as long as you like and in the evening they turn on little twinkling lights. Must go for anyone who hasn't been yet. If you're in Mumbai for a bit, then this is a must visit. The food was average-good. We ordered Hummus-Pita and the Pita was too hard and thick. Hummus had good flavor. The pizza was very average and it burnt my pocket to spend so much on it.
BEST PLACE IN JUHU
This is one of my favourite places to hang out with friends, mainly because of its ambience and location. it is split in two sections. We always prefer to sit in the outer one as it is beach facing and we can smoke.
Drinks are not expensive but aren't great either.
Coming to the food, I love their kebab platter, nachos with salsa dip . pizza isn't bad either.
Best time to visit this place is during sunset. the view is just awesome.
One of the best
Gadda Da Vida, Novotel Juhu is certainly one of the best places in the Western suburbs to have live gigs. What better than a scenic sea-facing five star hotel with food and drinks that are totally VFM. The bartender is really good with his drinks. Most of the food is pretty good. You have to try their large kebab platter. Pizzas are light and flavoursome. The seafood fare is overpriced but nonetheless delicious. I've been here quite a few times for casual outings and for one of their New Year parties. The organizers really know how to kick in a party at this hotel. It was definitely the best hotel party I've been to in Bombay. And my local as well as Norwegian friends would concur with that. No better place to witness the fireworks at the Bombay skyline and seashore. I would definitely go there again for any of their parties without any sliver of hesitation.
Romantic & Cozy
Ambience - If you are looking for a place to chill with your friends or a quiet cozy evening with your partner then this is the place. And if you are a beach lover, then it cant get better. Its one of those rare places in mumbai where you can get away from the noisy city.
What to order (unfortunately i am a vegetarian) - a beer or any drink of your choice / fresh lime juice, potato wedges with cheese dip, nachos.
Value for money - yes totally!
What I didn't like - some chana starter as they made it too spicy and garlic breads were kinda disappointing.
Best time to go - monsoon or any day around 6 pm if you wana watch the sunset. If you are lucky, you may get a beach facing table. Enjoy!
Best place to have your evening drink
The ambiance outside is simply amazing... comfortable couch seating by the beach...
love this place in the monsoons, or winters (i.e. if Bombay has any), but the place has got to be the best outdoor seating option in Bombay for a drink...
gets very crowded on saturday nights, which is why i prefer other days where it is comfortable and can get a sofa seating...
it is obv expensive..but u should expect that.... and sometimes the service can get slow..
do try their jalapeno poppers... a good snack option with your drinks...
best enjoyed with your partner... if the weather plays sport....
Fun by the beach
The best place to spend your evening in Juhu. Relaxed, beach facing getaway with plenty to offer. Dont expect much if you are super hungry and craving for some real dinner. But this place has some good starters and a good collection of alcohol. Surprisingly quiet despite having a large crowd always. Good for families, friends and couples.
Amazing seashore dinning experience
Beautiful seashore dining experience!! just two of you for a candle light dinner and colours of nature to fill the ambience, with good music in background and a good food, wht do u want more than this for a romantic date?? ;)
only i think the menu is very much limited jain food , may be they can work on it thats the only suggestion.
sunset sea view
i visit almost twice a month during high tea- sunset, the best time to go, obv the outdoor seating near the pool and facing the sea. overpriced. basket of ultimate fries has masala fries and quantity is very good. spicy fried potatoes are tangy and good. pollo pesto pizza is different and takes u back to france. don't order kebabs. cold coffee is wow wow wow.
Nice and easy if I'd say , they have recently changed the seating setup and seats making them more comfortable than what it was earlier.
Very good place to end a long hard day at work with a pint of beer/cocktails priced decently considering happy hours.
Service was excellent thanks to the manager Sagar. Can't ask for more.
Although the bar food menu can be a bit better still one of the best place in the city to take it easy on a evening specially a monsoon evening.
The view buys its ticket! Any place that opens up to the shores and the waves surely holds an ace up its sleeve. Above it, the music is good, the vibe starts out young and chill in early evening, and sails toward romantic once the sun sets. A recommended place for couples, dating and a solitary time by the sea. Friends or large groups might find the comfy chairs and downy cushions ergonomically challenging. A place calls for a quiet, romantic mood.
Great view,Great place to spend evenings
Gadda Da Vida at Novotel is a classy lounge, sea-facing, with a magnificent panoramic view, a destination for hopeless romantics. Priced at the higher end, this place is worth every buck, for it's ambiance. The outdoor section faces the sea and also has a pool side view where you can enjoy a beer or two.
The only problem is service. It's horrible & you've to remind them a zillion to bring your order
Over hyped, over priced, disappointing
Good to go if your thrill is to chill by the sea view and guzzle some regular beers hawked at high prices. The chicken served was cold. The service lethargic. And the seating inside is very uncomfortable. You almost eat with food on your lap! Had heard so much about it, but was utterly disappointed.
its a lovely and romantic place to spend evenings by the poolside watching d evening sunset and sipping on a few drinks.
i specially loved their cappriciosca pizza...thin crusted wid mushrooms...jus divine
v also tried their nachos wid salsa wich was also good enuf
for d cocktail i tried their cosmopolitian wich was again nicely done
a little expensive though bt worth d price u pay
One of The Best Places to Spend an Evening ...
An exceptional place in a space starved city ....Gadda Da Vida is one of the best places in town to spend an evening. The place opens at 2 Pm and goes on way past midnight....there are no reservations so you have to be prepared to wait a good 45 minutes to an hour to get a place in there....once you get a place though the place is simply amazing. Spread over an uninterrupted view of the juhu beach its an amazing scenery of the horizon. There are around 10-12 tables mostly sofas where you can just sit and admire the sea. This place is not about food or drink but about Time...pure unadultrated time over the sea. The best time to visit is just before sunset so that you can capture the sunset and the beautiful colors it throws up. As for food and drink we had a couple of Martinis and some beer....ordered a capricciossa pizza which was amazingly thin crusted, was not overloaded with cheese , had the most amazing mushrooms and smelt of the freshest basil i have sniffed around in mumbai. We also ordered hummus with pita bread and some fries which were good but not exceptional.
Apart from the wait and a little steep price ( the tables come with a minimum order of Rs 1000 per person) , i doubt there is a better place in mumbai to spend a nice romantic evening. There is no disturbance from the staff and the sitting arrangement being besides a swimmng pool and facing the sea....it really does make your evening......
Its all just hype but nothing else
I have seen a lot of good reviews about this place and finally when I land here it's really disappointing.
The sea facing location is only the most appealing part of this place.
The ambience is really pathetic and the service is laid back.
The bar counter looks so untidy and it doesn't give the feel of a so called 5 star hotel by any chance.
For those who are not willing to shell out 1000 bucks cannot sit outside facing the beach.
Rest is upto you people to decide whether to visit this place or not
Just awesome never forget my visit
I was there on my birthday, I am in love with their green apple mojitos, the staff is good, it was ma best birthday ever. The people working there are really cool. They all celebrated my birthday. A beautiful cake was arranged by the bartender which was on the house. In no time suddenly all the crowd got involved in my celebration. The bartender made us some flaming shots which was the coolest part, the view is so awesome u just can't forget the place..
Happy hours what happy hours
On Sunday sat at the bar and ordered for a long island, by definition it has to have 5 spirits, lemon juice and topped with cola. Mine was 4 white spirits and sugar syrup lots of lime and a flat Pepsi (from the 2ltr bottle). Sitting at the bar I realised the overworked bar tender (Abhishek) and I sort of agree since he was lethargic because of the crowd but that's not an excuse to short pour all the orders which literally was the case, every drink was short poured and only complete when the waiter asked him to top it up . Apart from that the servers need a good shout out for your attention. The two stars are for the ambiance which is really very nice. apart from that I think they need another bar tender to help the overly busy bar .
One of the best sea view front
The place never fails to amuse me.It's been my favorite ever since I first went to this place. As soon as you enter the place the cool breeze welcomes you and makes you forget all the stress that's pondered upon you.Its a great place to unwind after a day.The seating is comfortable, with waiters all so presentable and know their job.
The menu bar is extensive but the cocktail options are limited to 7-8.Vodka based drinks are 3.I'd want more options in this segment. The drinks are reasonably priced.Cocktails in the range of 450.Beers starting from around 200.The happy hours have their own charm.4pm-8pm where you get 1 on 1 free for domestic liquors and for the rest of them 30% off. That's quite an offer considering this to be a 5 star Hotel. The food menu is not a meal one but a snack one.Something to nibble upon while you enjoy your drink. The Wedges are excellent out here.Pizzas were decent enough, nothing special.
All in all I'm really impressed with this place. Its open quite early compared to the other similar places around like Aurus and Vie whose gates open at 7:30.You won't be left complaining once you leave this place and would want to come back again.
Its a decently priced open air bar, considering its a 5 star.Perfect for a date or having a drink or two with your mates.
Never Enjoyed Juhu Beach Better !!
Juhu beach was a place I frequented since childhood but I've never enjoyed it more than today. I was there to celebrate my friend's birthday and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise for all of us !
I wanted a comfortable seating for 10 and Anil was kind enough to give us the private area. It had a fantastic view !!
The sea, the breeze, the rain.. It was awesome !
Sadly, we couldn't eat a lot of the food there (some of us were vegetarians and others had the Shravan problem).
The drinks were good and service was great !!
All in all.. It was a very good experience.
The only suggestion would be to increase the vegetarian options on the menu.
Great place to hang out
A nice Saturday night with the friends by the Beachfront, they serve liquor till late at night but no food, after 11.30 pm which somewhat hampers the fun. No freebies with the drinks whatsoever. Crowd is mostly guys, loud at times, but a nice to hang out on Saturday night.
was here for a boys nite out on a saturday nite... the indoor seating ws quite empty but there was jst 1 table left outside n thankfully v got it!! the view is just aaahhhhhhh.... the juhu beach and its arabian sea just looks spectacular from here! ordered drinks mostly beer (which were on the costlier side).. on asking v were served peanuts too and that too unlimited! 1 downside was tat the kitchen closed down at around 11:30 so v got no food but still with the good music and gr8 friends all in all it was an awesome nite!! will surely come back...
Expensive. But totally worth it.
I'd heard a lot of hype about this place before I went here. Adjectives like "scenic", "serene", "classy" and "relaxing" were what I commonly heard from friends and family who'd visited this place. So I went here last week with a friend of mine to finally check out what all the fuss was about. In a word, it was spectacular. We reached here around 11 pm and the ambiance was just so inviting. Lavish couches for individual seating and even large leather sofas for 2-3 people to lounge around on. The first thing you see to your left when you enter is a classy, well-equipped bar. To the right is the very elaborate poolside area of Novotel hotel. The entire place has a very lazy, chilled out feel to it. But what stands out is that every seat in the entire place enjoys a splendid view of the beach right in front of you. The Palm trees, the serene Arabian sea.. All this, with a couple of beers and a well spiced portion of Potato wedges accompanied by Garlic-mayo dip made for one of the best evenings I've enjoyed in my 20 years of existence. All in all, Gadda da Vidda gets virtually everything right. But they should really try and slack back on their prices a bit. I mean, 250 Rs. for a portion of wedges is just preposterous. As are the ridiculous liquor prices. But I'll definitely be visiting this place again soon. Preferably, to watch the sunset. :)
went on a friday.... around 6 in the evening.... saw the sunset by the beach... it's one of the amazing places to try... it is expensive but worth it totally... no one bothers u even if u sit there for an hour without ordering.... i sat there for almost 3-4 hours and the view of the beach plus the environment is mesmerizing....loved it
starry night at beach
now that i have been here a couple of times, this place seems like an addiction for me.Best place to chill out with friends on there low couches & bean bags at there open lounge area. The experience of sitting bang on the beachfront, sipping a beer & with stars studded sky it feels simply out of this world. Surel it has nice service & nice people around to give you that extra kick...cheers!
Sip it by the ocean
Irrespective of the reviews below, I loved the place. just 3 of us, We sat inside for a while which was nice and chilly, a bit uncomfortable seating though. Then crawled outside and took the couches with sea view. Pleasant evening lying on the bean bag sipping cold coffee (which wast the best I ever had before, this coming from a coffee lover means a lot) chatting with friends what else could one want. My friends were drinking, drinks were good and fancy, affordable too. Good music or not who knows we were busy chatting. I was so at peace that I didnt want to leave. I would definitely go again for the coffee and the experience. Oh yeah they had a decent crowd, it was weekday nite so cant expect much.
nothin amazing at all...
had been to this place on last saturday,by the time i reached this place ..i was very hungry, sad to see the very limited menu..satff not interested in taking order...the outer section was pack..beleving stags enjoyoing the happy hours...you are not missing on anything ...this can be a skip for sure..
I really love this place , this is where i met my boyfriend, he frequents it all the time. On a weekday evening sit outside watch the sunset , sip the margheritas... and life is good. pricing ouchhh there had to be a pain point. and for those who are unhappy with the service , tip them well they remember you and serve you well , too cheap to tip well then dont grumble about the service sure its their job to serve you well , but then your boss pays you to work and not to be reading this review right....
Gadda Da Vito
It seems a lot can change over the course of six months, and sadly, I now want to retract my previous (glowing) review of this place. Listen up Burrpers! - you need to exercise your right to vito G da V as this is not the place to come to anymore if you appreciate good service, cleanliness, and alcohol in your drinks!
The really sad thing is that G da V has so much going for it, and made such a great impression when it first opened. I mean, you can't fault that view, or the setting overall. However, it now seems the management of this hotel want to make a quick buck during happy hour by serving only mocktails, even if you order a cocktail...!
I sent one cocktail back as all I could taste was sugary juice. "Where's the vodka?!", I asked. The bar man took my glass without a further word, grabbed the vodka bottle and let a few drops drip in my drink. Said barman, as he handed me my mock-cocktail, claimed that cranberry juice "overpowers" the taste of alcohol... Oh really?
It's worth noting that I have been here 2-3 times over the last couple of months where the same thing has happened: order a happy hour drink, have a sip, can't detect alcohol, send it back, and repeat...
There seems to be a 100% turnover of staff - none of the familiar old faces are there anymore, which is a shame as these guys took pride in what they did. Now, however, the replacements seem to be the wait staff that failed to get a job anywhere else - even Sun 'n' Sand probably rejected them (see my previous review).
Overall, this made for a not-so-good start to our Saturday night out; however, don't let the same happen to you! Instead, head down to Vie Lounge or Aurus if you fancy a bit more class, and a lot more alcohol with your drinks during a lovely Mumbai sunset.
Great Ambiance, but do double check the bill.
Been here a few times, and the ambiance was superb every time. Best time to visit is around 6pm, since you have a great view and the happy hours start at that time too. Definitely a place to go, if you want to impress your girl.
Only gripe I have with this place is that they messed up with the bill on more than one occasion. Has happened with me and my friends on a couple of times, but was rectified immediately, so I guess no harm done :)
Cocktails are around Rs 500 after taxes. I recommend the whiskey sour.
The perfect place for a cozy saturday night. Gadda da vida is super amazing, the ambience is beautiful, sea-facing, open-air, poolside, wow! It's on the expensive end but it's all worth the ambience. I simply love this place and it tops my list of favourites! Every one must check this place out!! :)
I loved everything about this place..food,ambiance,service..everything was near perfect.
the best part was facing the beach and having the yum food. the waiters are really polite and attentive..cocktails are amazing.. they quite take good care of the customization part of it. the starters were delicious- chicken and mushrooms..priced steeply for the quantity served.but for a one time experience its a good place.
This is going to be a short review. Me and my cousin landed up here waiting for the rest of the family to show up for the dinner at Olio.
The sight and the sound of the waves crashing barely 20 feet away set the mood for a couple of rounds of drinks. I went for the Rusty Nail and he for the Scotch.
The service was quick and the staff not at all arrogant as pointed out by a few previous reviewers. The ambiance is best part about the place, not to mentioned the relaxed vibe of this place.
The way it is setup the place is good to go in groups. Overall a thumbs up from me.
The Garden of Eden, maybe...
Well, I'm taking a chance here with the 3 less-than-happy reviews of this lounge bar going before me! It's going to take a lot to convince you guys now that this place isn't as cr@p as everyone wants to make it out to be.
We stumbled into this place after attending a function at the Sun 'n' Sand Hotel. And first things first, if you think Gadda Da Vida has arrogant staff, please swing by next-door and see the little upstart in the beige polyester kurta who "works" at the (alleged 5*) Sun 'n' Sand hotel. This guy should not have direct contact with guests. His tongue is a complete liability and he will get a slap very soon from someone as he has the ability to really say the wrong thing at completely the wrong time. I was tempted to push him in the pool when he refused to get me a glass of water and pointed me to the water fountain instead!
Anyway, back to G da V: we ended up here at 5.45pm as the original place we wanted to go to (Vie Lounge) didn't open until 6.30pm. So, imagine our surprise when we rocked up here and found Happy Hour about to begin :o)
I think we had the same waitress as Reviewer 3 (30 Nov 2009) below. When I checked with the waitress, she pulled that Superman trick and turned the clock back 30 minutes!
So, we ordered drinks at 5.55pm (according to our own watches), but missed out on Happy Hour by around 30 minutes according to the bar's clock.
Now, I think we spotted this "Mani" Reviewer 2 makes a mention of below. He still looks like he's overdosed on Botox or has something wedged up his **** (Note to self: perhaps it was another waiter from the Sun 'n' Sand stuffed up there?).
His face looked like thunder the whole evening - if he attempted a smile, I am sure it would have cracked. And he looked well out of place too as he's such an old, pot-bellied giffer.
Meanwhile, our waiter was attentive, polite and courteous. He remembered our Happy Hour qualifying drinks and duly kept our thirsts quenched without reminder. He also regularly showed a smile and attempted some small-talk, which was welcome.
The music was awesome! The DJ must have had some drug-fuelled shopping spree in the cheesier music shops of the UK. It was pure 1980s pop. And I'm talking obscure pop at that too. We even had Frank Sinatra in the washrooms. WTF? He was signing, not cleaning... In case you were wondering.
Back (again) to G da V. The drinks were nicely done and presented well. The only issue the writer had was navigating his gob around the edge of the Cosmo glass. It had a flat stemmed base where the condensation from the glass above ran down and collected. So, when you took a sip, you spilled water in your lap. And that really isn't a good look in a bar like this.
The food (which consisted of pizza alone) was excellent. And so was the view. We reached in time for the sunset and enjoyed the cool breeze with it too. The swimming pool looked inviting, but we decided against the idea of a quick dip so we could make the most of Happy Hour instead. We were hopeful that we'd eventually claw back that 30 minutes we lost at the start of the evening...
Some celebrity-spotting was to be had the evening we were there too. I am sure we saw Kunal Kapoor (remember him?). I had my shades on (and normally need to wear glasses) and I'd had a fair amount of alcohol too. It therefore could have been almost anyone and not really KK. However, there was a creepy director-looking chap sat next to him shouting into his cell 'phone all evening, and then a young lady in a short frock appeared and landed on what I assumed was actually the "casting couch".
Anyway, I digress. Overall, you can safely ignore the 3 negative reviews below. Things seem to have changed for the better. This place is a nice find in the Juhu area. The drinks are not badly priced (especially when it's two-for-one) and the food pretty good too. You can't put a price on the view, and the bean bags outside are just too much fun to try and fall out of once it's time to go home. Or when you are thrown out because you appear to be peeing your knickers whilst drinking Cosmos. Whichever comes first...
Dripping of Arrogance & a 'NO' Attitude
This almost endorses previous reviews of how pathetic are the service standards of a so-called 4 star hotel. This lounge inside the Novotel hotel in Juhu bears a neat setup of indoor seating and a laid back & casual seating in the lawn by the beach. Full marks to the ambiance and it would indeed be a great experience sitting outside in the lawn and enjoying your drinks.
What spoils the fun are the servers and bartenders. Very impolite and every word from thier mouth starts with a 'No'. On a saturday night, we were trying to squeeze in chairs in the lawn for us to make room to have our group seated. While we took effort to move the chairs/tables, there was no courteousy by the staff to be doing thier own job! On requesting them to take our order, again a No. We had to get up and get our drinks from the bar. At 11ish when we asked for some appetizers - again a NO. Dont serve appetizers in the outdoor section. At 12ish we realized that we had to move indoors as the outdoor section was to be closed. Why the ***k do you guys even have an outdoor section if you got so many restrictions??
Disappointment doesnt end there. While at the bar, we asked the bartender if he had corona - the answer - NO. Finally took a kingfisher draft for 350 odd bucks which wasnt even filled properly. Asked them for iced tea - NO. Got a mojito which was made in a v weird fashion but turned out ok. Music wasnt bad but wasnt something i would return back to.
I would try my best not to return to this lounge which is filled with servers boasting of arrogance and impoliteness.
another stinker review...and I am also very angry...
We (my hubby and 1 friend) decided on a Saturday evening to enjoy the nice breeze near the sea and try out this new spot. We were just checking out the menu when we realized that we were early enough for the happy hour (1800-2000) as it was 19.45. We checked with the waitress which drinks are eligible for happy hour and suddenly she said...'please wait a moment - i check'. Okay..not a problem...she came back and told us the happy hour is not anymore. We were confused...why? She had no answer and send the 'manager'.....
We again asked friendly for the reason...and...the unbelievable answer was....'at our clock it is already 8.05 - so the happy hour is over'.....First we thought this argument can only be a joke...butâ?¦.no...it was notâ?¦.he actually was serious about it!!
So...all 3 of usâ?¦checked our watches and mobiles..and..well..it was still 10 minutes to 8...but he would not let go and insisted that only the time on the bar watch is relevantâ?¦.
THIS is wrong attitude and leaves a very sour taste behind. Either you try to gain customers by offering happy hours or you just leave it at the first place. its not about the money...and obviously we would have had more than 1 drink ..but this was too much attitude to takeâ?¦so another spot nearby gained from their loss....its a pity...as the place is great...but...i wont go there again any time soon.
ahem ahem. what waiters what service
Sorry for writing such a stinker review but trust me I'm angry. I went to attend the concert at gadda da vida last night, 13th Nov. Its a brilliant place with a lovely ambiance, good acoustics and its great to see them support this kind of a gig. Twist in the story:-
I sit on the couch and wait for the concert to begin. A waiter walks to me and puts a menu on my table.
Me - No thanks I'm here for the concert.
Waiter Mani - Then you can leave sir (in a very disrespectful tone)
Me - Sorry?
WM - You have to order something sir. Its a bar after all.
Me - Ok... (I'm absolutely zapped)
WM - The entry is free but you have to buy something.
Me - Ok... but wasn't this a free entry thing?
WM - You go to any other bar and there they charge you entry. We are giving free entry but you have to buy something. I'm sorry, if you are not ordering then you'll have to leave.
Me - So i can't even stand and watch ?
WM - Sorry sir. You can leave. (points his finger at the door)
So i grumpily take the menu and order a drink which says 165 on the menu and turns up on the bill as Rs.250. I see the waiter follow suit with a few others around and everybody seems to be getting pissed off.
I'm not sure if they actually did a check on everybody at the gig to make sure if they had ordered. Of course they mustn't have. But it was disgusting to be treated like a dog. In fact, its quite a contradiction since everywhere i went in the hotel, even the restroom - the staff was very pleasant. But that one waiter - Mani - ruined the night. I don't think I'm going back.
Lovely ambeince and service
Had been to this new joint in Juhu Gada Da Vida on 16th as Rolling stones had organized Uday Benegal's live show. It's a huge place with Al-fresco sitting also where one can experience direct veiw to Arabian ocean and sun setting on the horizon. The inside area is really cosy and a perfect place for your date. Majorily all alcohols are availbale in the bar and food is good enough but nothing special. Service is really great and friendly. The bartenders are pretty good in their job and the service staff will always be ready with the smile on their face to serve you. Overall very good experience and worth visitng again and again.
Garden of Eden?
Overlooking the waters of the Arabian Sea, stands the majestic Gadda Da Vida. This psychedelic modern jazz terrace bar christened after all-time hit famous psychedelic rock song ?Gadda da Vida? by the band Iron Butterfly has every characteristic to transport guests to the realms of relaxation.
The bar extends from the main spacious lounge to the outer section, giving the guests an option of enjoying their food and drinks either comfortably seated inside or relaxing outside. The expansive main bar also boasts a fine stock of spirits, liquor, cocktails and a large list of coffees and teas. This quirky place has a unique concept to its credit; that of the clock chiming at every hour which puts the DJ into a frenzy of spinning the very anthem ?Gadda da Vida? itself for about 20 seconds. One of the ultra-cool features of Gadda Da Vida is the lighting, which can be attuned according to the time of the day.
The hotel has just done a soft launch so only the bar and coffee shop are operational right now. When we asked why they havent advertised the hotel yet they mentioned they were looking for select crowd rather than a horde so they could tailor the music, drinks and food based on their preferences.
Being a regular at Sampan decided to do a tour of the hotel and and what facilities they have. We were taken on a tour of the bar by the beverage manger himself.
Though the name sounds italian it is anything but. Its a song where apparently the singer was soo drunk that instead of garden of eden he said gadda da vida and it struck.
I just loved the way they have done up the place. Very classy and a great place to take a date for a romantic evening. Pretty much empty right now since most people don't even know about it.
Drinks: Had a white wine and a friend had a yen for something strawberry and boy did the bartender whip up strawberry. Its was a bit sweet but definately strawberry. Its served with some fried peas with a dash of wasabi. A nice departure from the usual bar munchies.
Didn't eat anything so cant comment on the food but they apparently have good variety to suit all palates.
Service: Was very good exactly the way it should be in any good hotel. Polite and ready to provide whatever you need.
Damages: Well the drinks were on the house so cant comment. (And no its not got 5 stars due to that)
I loved it and am definately go more often now. A very welcome addition to Juhu's watering holes.
