Great food and value for money
One of the best places for South Indian snacks (tiffin)... Great flavours and affordable prices... They also serve other items which are very good pav bhaji to pizzas to sandwichs and shakes... Thier North Indian and Chinese food is also good... One of the best times to visit is for morning breakfasts... I would highly recommend this place...
Good VFM food
I love them for their dosas, (great variety). Superb filter coffee (for mumbai). A regular haunt for a weekend breakfast. The vadas are nice n light.
the place is clean, fast and the food tasty n fresh. Even the juices are totally "pure".
on the flip aide I do hate any other cuisine out here.
Good Food Served Straight Up
Gleaming sunmica tops on small tables, waiters with oiled hair in crisp uniform, the uniform hum of orders being given to the kitchen, smell of filter coffee and patrons focused on their food. That defines Geeta Bhavan. Apart from the standard dosa, idli and vada which are all good, there are also specials of Adai Avial and Pesarat available on weekends. The thali is value for money and the chole bhature is surprisingly good for a south indian place. Highly recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner Geeta Bhavan continues to remain an all time favorite.
simple n best
i have been visiting this place for quite some tym and i have to tell you this. The best south indian food ever. The wadas are crisp and the sambar is perfect.but i am not really happy with the indian menu . The added advantage this place has is that it is pretty close to the chembur railway station.
Tasted Good but be carful while paying ur bills ..
After hearing so much about Geeta Bhavan, we thought to give it a try.... and No doubt that reviews we heard and read about are very True... they provide great food with simplicity and good flavor.... and since then it's become our regular Sunday Breakfast joint.... but in my recent two visits we found to be charged for more than what we actually ordered..The Bill was Incorrect.... they tried charging 30-40 Rs. Extra by adding those dishes which we didn't order.....and this thing repeated Twice with us..... which left us in bad mood...... :(
So please be careful while paying your bills.... not only here but every where :)
One of best places to eat near Chembur Station
When I was in college and short of moolah, I used to seldom indulge in street food. But then health was affected due to bad hygiene. After which, I switched to Geeta Bhavan. This is one of the best family restaurants. They have ample seating space so if you are going there on Sunday evening then you need not wait much to get a table. Speaking of the food, it very hygienic I must say and it doesnt burn a hole i your pocket. They need to hire better cooks for their chinese dishes. They are decent with paneer and other vegetarian dishes with gravy. Being a pure Veg, it lives upto expectations with excellent and tasty South Indian dishes and other snacks. The thali is really good but they do not parcel it. Damn :
Be it breakfast, supper or lunch, you ought to go to Geeta Bhavan. Do try the lunch limited thali. Its just perfect in the sense you wouldn't need to order anything extra. The ambience is okayish, interiors are standard and service is pretty decent.
Overall, sasta sundar aur tikau hotal.
Memories galore....Geeta Bhavan!
If you have grown up in and around Chembur you know what Geeta Bhavan stands for. Its been there long before I was even born. And I've got fond memories of the place. I remember visiting with my parents after grocery and vegetable shopping. Ahh those days!!
Its a regular Udupi styled restaurant with huge seating areas. You wont find an ambiance per say, but if you've been a regular, you have your own idea of ambiance here. The light weight tables and chairs, the huge standing fan blowing right into your face and yet you love it. This place has a different aura of its own.
Service is prompt and the staff is always on toes. You'll never find this place scarce, be it day or night. Food still tastes the way it did years ago. Its difficult to pick out on one favourite and the regular that I have been, I've tried everything. And everything is good! However its slightly more famous for South Indian dishes.
Light on the pocket like always. You can have a happy tummy in say Rs 150. Isn't that a treat!
I m chetan from chembur, born and brought up...and have grown along with geeta bhavan,.. excellent south indian cuisine,,,have memories dating back from 1978 while studying in GEA tilll nowww,,,,,, too many memories,,too many birthdays,,,,,,,, awesome,,,,,,and thats my friend from school times in the picture............thanks geeta bhavan and all the staff at geeta bhavan for serving us wonderful food,,,,,,,,,,keep it up..........
Good food, cheap price
This is one of the oldest restaurants in Chembur. Famous singer Shankar Mahadevan used to visit this place when he stayed in Chembur. The food is simply awesome. The best part is that you get everything right from South-Indian to Chinese. This place is usually packed and u'll have to wait in the queue sometimes. But its worth it. What amazes me is the cost. It is so cheap. The quantity is also more. Their one naan roti can fill two people :o There is no special recommendation of dishes as everything available is simply awesome.
One stop shop for food!
What to write about a place that I have been to most of my growing years! Everything in this place from service to food to cleanliness is great!.. And unbeatable prices and taste. The thing I miss the most now there is the veg south indian thali that they seem to have discontinued for some reason! I hope by this post of mine, they are able to revive the thali magic again.....
Seetha aur Geetha
Think of a good experience and you get two! not only is this place cost saving, clean and centrally located, it has amazing food too! Waiters are prompt, variety is available. Simple and nice. Don't forget to order the Pav Bhaaji here. The onion rava dosa is another delight!
All you guys have got it wrong. Geeta Bhavan's first speciality is its pavbhaji which is truly the best, is Shilpa Shetty's(whose hometown is Chembur) favourite pavbhaji too. All its bhajis and snacks here are very tasty , service is quick and food is very cheap. Try its pavbhaji and masala pav ,they are great!
The food here is very basic and the restaurant does not care about whether the food they serve is is even fit for consumption or not. Ordered a plate of coconut sevai last night (which was listed as one of the specials of the day). When it arrived, it was dry and was not even chewable. When i called the waiter to point this out - was told that this happened since it was kept in the open for a long time and hence dried up!
I have been to Geeta Bhavan umpteen times in the past and my advise to whoever plans to eat there is to just stick to the basics - idlis, plain dosa and curd rice. This is not a place for new experiences.
Decent Sambhar, Quick Service
The only time I'll be able to give any South Indian joint in Bombay a wholehearted thumbs up is when I learn to let go of the fact that it'll never taste as good as the stuff you get down south.
Anyway, tried their idli vada sambhar. Idli's weren't the best (not soft and melt-in-the-mouth enough), but doable nonetheless. The vada was a little better and the sambhar was actually nice. Not something that's common to too many places in the city.
One thing they definitely got right was the filter coffee. The service was super fast. So make that two things they got absolutely right...
Overall Rating: 3.5 (burrp! - you guys have to make provisions for half star ratings! There's a world of a difference between 3.5 and 4.)
I think the 42 INR + Tax (45 INR) South Indian Tali is a good bargain (a little spicy to be comfortable) but then the plate is decorated with some nice curries and daal + sweet + tiny cup of well formed yogurt (no papad though!). Comes in three varities tandori roti/chapati/puri + a small bowl of rice (you can exchange the bowl of rice for a second serving of roti/puri; if you do you are not being south india though!).
Quick service - you have ordered and the tali is ready in a giffy .. the rice takes a while to come in though .. but the most appreciative part is even though it is crowded .. you will be directed to a seat within 5 minutes by a well organized and a kite eyed gentleman .. parking is a problem though
very good on the whole
Typical Udipi restaurant:
Good quality food
Wide range of items on the Menu
South Indian specialities
Must try here:
1. Rava Masala Dosa
2. Adai (On weekends I think)
Been in Chembur for a long time, and people come from all over the place to eat here.
Directions: Get out at Chembur station (E) and walk towards Ambedkar Udyan, you will see this place on your right.
