go go go...!!!!

Located in a mall, Global Desi Tadka is a fun place with a pretend-rustic décor and entertainment. There is a one-ticket price that includes a variety from desi beverages to chaats to Chinese and North Indian starters and mains, and popular sweets like kulfis as well. All this is set up in a mock dhaba, street food, fairground and other areas, with entertainment to go with it.

Very average fare.

Now this is a place I would not visit normally. First of all it is quite far. Secondly it has pure vegetarian and Jain food. And thirdly, when I have the option of visiting its big brother, The Village, in Cuffe Parade and Thane, why would I come here.
But a friend of mine had her parents' anniversary lunch here, so here's when I had my first attempt at the place. They stamp you with some weird GDT red stamp as you enter, which looks like its made of Mehendi colors so until you really soap your hands throughly, the stain doesn't go. Straight up GDT looks like a slightly under-done replica of The Village. The usual mish-mash of a dhaba and a desi restaurant, with Tarot readers and Fortune Tellers. The ambiance wasn't really too appealing, especially considering the fact that it was a Sunday and teeming with a lotta other groups who were blaring random Hindi and Gujarati songs, one of which finally culminated in a loud 1 hour Garba session.
There's nothing much to talk about service as it was an all-you-can-eat buffet and a couple of live counters. One of the major things that irked me was when this guy in a security attire comes in at around 3-3.15 and starts creating a commotion, which was apparently a signal of closing hours. They literally make you push off as soon as possible.
Now most of the food was not that great at all. A lot of it is Jain and they have many of the same dishes in the Jain and normal form. So read the tag carefully before filling your plates. I, unfortunately, didn't do so and had their Jain versions Paneer Lababdari and Thai Noodles with curry which were extremely weird. The normal Thai noodles were decent. Anyway what was good to eat out there? Probably you could go for their chaat and Pav Bhaji counters. Give the Thai noodles a taste. It is different but not that bad. And their chhaas is also good. The starters weren't quite good. The veg crispy had an orange-y taste to it as though it was marinated in Mirinda sauce. There was a Thai rice ball which was dense and grainy. From among the mains, the dal and pulao was strictly decent. The non-Jain Paneer Lababdar was good. The pasta was kinda sweet so I had to add extra chili to it. Also, avoid the Gola at any cost. Awfully sweet and horribly made. They had a chocolate fountain which wasn't working so it was just a chocolate sauce. There were very dry cakes which were supposed to be dunked in the fountain but here, you just had to pour the sauce over it. Give it a miss. I am not a jalebi fan but reliable sources tell me that they are decent.
GDT has literally become famous for private events more than anything. So unless you do have to attend a private event there, I wouldn't recommend you to make a trip all the way just for a casual outing.

Similar to the parent The village

This place though smaller than village but offers the same kind of food fan fare like village at an affordable prize.

The musical by the in house DJ and the tarrot reader a Bengal seller. They have given a bollywood theme with a police station, a jail, a saloon section and a theatre with a projector screen.

The food is a regular stuff but they serve pastas which makes it a step ahead of village. A good place to hangout for an hour or two with a large group. A nice show managed by Mr. Mohnish.

Average food, interesting ambiance

Variety food, great ambiance, good experience. This place is like a smaller version of Chokhi Dhani, providing food, funky decorations, tarot card reader, palm reader and other interesting things.

Very funky restaurant with good food

We visited the restaurant last week and were quiet surprised to see the loud decor of the restaurant. There was a tarrot card reader and a jyotish. Since the IPL season is on a large TV screen was put up in the restaurant. We really liked the new dishes which are generally quiet unheard of like Hyderabad Deccan Chargers ki biryani and Chennai Super Kings ka Chumeen Dosa. Only one negative point, the restaurant doesnt serve any non-veg or alcohol.
