Not a good experience..Tried more options in the area which suited more and had a well mannered staff.Food is OK but not always served according to the menu so have to double check have to keep on reminding the waiters to clean up the tables or repeat drinks not always attentive. Gets too noisy and not recommended when you are with family the service is average. Definitely will avoid going or recommend it to any one visit at your on risk.
At walking distance away from the Irla market, one cannot expect such great food when you look at it from the outside. If you love mangolorean sea food, you MUST visit here.
Try the Tandoori Chicken, the Green curried shell fish (delightful), Prawn sukkha/gassi along with piping hot Neer Dosa. Not many places get the traditional sol kadi right, but they do! Alcohol is steep though, the food's extremely light on the pocket.
Shop In IRLA and Dine At HARISH :P
Great Place for a family restaurant. The staff is good. Ambience is very good, lil less spacious i'll say but good. Have ground and first floor(Though Gr flr. is closed for renewation as of April 2012).
Most importantly the food is great. Having a speciality in Coastal Treats. Infact while ordering for fish they even carry a tray consisting of uncooked fishes and u can see if they are fresh and select 1of ur choice. One rare nice attractions not frequently seen in mumbai restaurants is that they a have small cage at the entrance which has a number of crabs init. U can select a crab of your choice & and apetite & total number of guests.(Price=APS/APW)
The restaurant also offers good manglorean food. Chicken Pulimunchi with Neer Dosa is recommended by me though you may not find it on the menu. I have eating there since a year now.
My recommendation "Shop In IRLA and Dine At HARISH"
Food - 4/5
Service - 3.5/5
Value - 3.5/5
Ambience - 3/5.
Great price, great food
Dont be deicived by the grubby exterior. There is a neat little airconditioned family section on the first floor.
This place smells like mangalore(not fishy but a mix of spice and agarbatti..), the waiters are mangalorean and the food is delish.
Stick to mangalorean sea food, pig out and pay very little everything is fresh, fragrant and totally irresistible.
Good Bar Good Food
Been here a few times. A feast for seafood lovers. Decently priced alcohol and suitable for families.
The place does get noisy in the evenings & finding a table is hard.
Don't be fooled by the exterior. This place has better food than Gajalee! My friends will swear by Prawns Butter garlic. Also the chef will cater to your tastes.
I've had food delivered from Harish on and off from the last 5-6 years, and i have to say the place has been serving consistently good food. This is not the type of joint which serves healthy, less oil food, it is the typical Indian/Chinese joint which serves spicy, oily great tasting food! The veg and non-veg is equally great and the non-veg starters, especially fish, are a must try! Have never been to the restaurant for a sit-down meal as it used to have a reputation as a drinking joint until recently. All in all, if you are in the mood for no-fuss eating place which serves great food at reasonable costs, this is the place to go!
Great find in Irla!
Irla is not a place I have eaten much at except for the overpriced Papillon and Amar Juice Centre. So it was a surprise for me when a friend suggested we go to Harish Bar and Restaurant for some choicest meat dishes and off course some drinks.
For starters, which for this post means drinks, we ordered for Royal Stag quarter at INR 220 which is quite reasonable by any standards! For the food though, there was a long list which included the choicest of prawns (Prawns Lassuni), the sweet tasting Crispy Chicken, Chicken Lollypop, and the evergreen Surmai Tawa Fry. I think the fish here was awesome and so were the prawns though the lollypops held forth for the chicken!
The main course included Chicken Hyderabadi and the Chicken Sukha. The Sukha I rather have at Janta Bar and Restaurant in Bandra. Though not bad, it wasnt the same as at Janta. The Hyderabadi Chicken was lip-smackingly good as were the Parathas.
Overall the place is on the expensive side though the booze is reasonably priced. Sea Food is a must have here especially the Chef's Special, I hear.
Food: 3.5/5 No complaints with the food. Though the prices could be reduced a bit here.
Service: 4/5 Attentive and friendly waiters.
Price: 3/5 The real downer here. Harish could possible be a back up if only the food prices are slashed by 20% or more, which seems unlikely to happen!
hi, after reading such wonderful reviews on burrp thought of trying Harish. not a problem in locating this place its just on the signal of famous ALPA. not a problem for parking either.
i was with my wife, as soon as we saw this place from outside we were not sure whether we should enter or not as it looks like a shabby bar....i assured my wife that there is family section on the first floor so lets go but she insisted that i should go n check first so i went there....as soon as you enter this bar, there is a non ac section for typical boozers...as you go on first place the scene is totally different ...a decent section but again no family there in that section too...i asked for family section to which a staff replied its there....i saw it and was very much convinced. PLS PLS DO NOT AFFRAID IN GETTING IN ....IT HAS DECENT FAMILY SECTION.
as its a seafood speciality resturant, thought of trying some seafood. on menu most of the sea food items were around 160-180 and other non veg items were in the range of 110-130...quit ok. ordered for prawns tandoori, pint of white wine. came in no time. staff are also very polite. in the menu the price for prawns tandoori was not mentioned and it was marked as APS (as per size). the size of prawns were good and it was very tasty. then though of trying some more starters...so ordered for prompret tava fry...again a APS item. came promptly....this was also quit tasty. coming to main course...was really confused as they have so many items on menu...and everything is tempting...as my wife was full in starters only...it was only me for main course. so ordered for my favourite brain masala....asked for neer dosa (as it was not there on menu)...but it was available.....again ordered for one more pint of wine......food also came promptly. neer dosa was perfect.....brain masala was also very tasty.
asked for check, the total was 1685 for 2 starters 2 pint (660) and one main course. i was sure that APS items must be quit high. checked n found that prawns tandoori was @ 360/- prompret tava fry @ 310...brain masala 110...neer dosa ..i guess 25 for 2. i guess 360 for prawns tandoori is not cheap....neither too high considering the quality of it.
over all a good exprience.
Very Good Sea Food
Been there 4 times up till now. Always accompanied by guests. Sea food is much better than many of the hyped & pricey restaurants. There's a separate section for family (good for people who don't want to booze). Its a must for Sea Food Lovers. I will go there again & again.
Kya Baat hai Harish Ki
An impromptu afternoon session on the 30th dec 2006 with 3 friends deciding to have some beers in anticipation of the year end & all that jazz....
Went up the stairs....surprise some 5 friends had also the same idea....with the orders flowing, mobiles were whipped out & in no time more dropped in....by 2 pm there were 18-20 of us(bit diff to remember) Beer, vodka, gin flowed along with the lovely free chakna, interspersed with fish items, sukha chicken & mutton.
Finally it was the cell phone ringing from home, that decided to close the session at around 8pm
Been there a couple of times after that, met some unique people but never had such a blast.
Low cost, high quailty sea food
Harish Bar and Restaurant seems to be one of those hidden gems in Mumbai that has its own loyal, quiet middle aged following. I suppose its target segment isn't your average 25 year old blogger who will rave about the place after a sumptuous sea food meal there.
I discovered Harish on Burrp! just a day after I happened to notice it on my way to Irla market. I took the review seriously, and the next time I happened to be there I ordered a tawa fried surmai fish, and a chicken fried rice to go.
The fish was truly delectable, and the slice was unbelievably huge - almost ten inches in length - all for a cool 90 bucks. The thing about sea food is sourcing. Sourcing good quality fish is 90% of the job - the preparation is actually quite elementary. Harish certainly seems to be sourcing his stuff from a good place.. :)
Verdict: Excellent place for take away sea food. Unbelievably cheap by Mumbai standards. Slighlty shady ambience. The guy clearly needs MARKETING!!
Best Sea Food in Mumbai
Ignore the location. Get upstairs and sit in the family room. Your taste buds are in for a treat. If you plan to come here on Wednesday or the weekend i suggest you call and speak to Sadanand - The trusted captain and tell him you are a friend of 'Roy' That should get you a booking
Most people come here to drink, coz the prices are cheap. But once you get a taste of the chef's specials you'll be coming here only to eat. The ambience is simplistic and thats all that should matter, remember its the food that matters! Service is A-One and quality is Like Mom made it herself
I recommend the following dishes
- Prawns in Green chilly garlic sauce
- Stuffed Squids
- Prawns in peri-peri sauce
Wait... (My keyboard is gotten all wet from the drool) ok more
- Chicken Kheema
- Chicken sukha
- Any Crabs preparation - check if you want it de-shelled etc
- Squid in lemon grass sauce - -simply divine
Ok thats enough, see you there!
