I have some of the best memories from my childhood of coming to Jyoti and even now, when I am in Bombay and Dadar .... Jyoti is a no brainer. We've been patrons from when the upstairs, had a 'watch your head' sign for this huge ass beam going through the middle and even my 4'11 mom had to bend down to pass through it.
The menu is regular Udipi style, but boy, is the serivce fast and food yum. The idlis were, the freshest ever, the chutney was never watered down and the sambhar was perfect, sour and with a dash of sweet. I could never make up my mind on idli/vada and usually got the combo. Oh! How I loved that.
I remember wanting to linger around longer and observe people coming in and out from the upper deck. Also, another vivid memory from the kiddie days is these Paans, they had at the front desk. They were roundish, with coconut and something red in them. They looked so colorful and delish, but my mom never let me have one. Note to self, next time in Bombay, go to Jyoti and try that Paan. What fun it is to be grownup, dont need permission from mommy.
