Prawns koliwada mecca

Have never really dined in here, although it has a family section aside from the bar, where you will see drunken men lurking around. The food though never fails to deliver. This time we ordered for a take away and our order read like this - Prawns koliwada, chicken kalimiri kebab, mutton seekh kebab, chicken reshmi kebab and chicken kebab handi. The quantity is a bit sparse, however the food is right up on the taste meter. The prawns were splendid. Just the right mount of masala and semolina coating it. They were medium sized prawns, and acted as the perfect appetizer accompanying our house party. It burned quite a hole in our pockets. However it didn't hurt for it was delicious food.

Koliwada Prawns paradise

Prawns...prawns...prawns ... !!
The piping-hot, batter coated, deep-fried morsels of delight, liberally sprinkled with chaat masala washed down with chilled beer is the stuff of dreams !!
This is a regular fixture with friends. ambience is ok...the seating is rather pokey....but hey, the prawns make it all worth the while.
the Rawas fry is also very good. the Black dal/dal makhani is creamy and very nice along with their wheat rotis.
tried their kebabs, but they were quite average. the mutton boryani too was okay- okay.
Bottomline : great place to go with friends for some brilliant prawns and fish with beers !!

Lambas @ Jan 14

I Ordered the following items on a sunday afternoon- tandoori(red), prawns masala and butter chicken for takeway. I was recommended this place by a friend of mine. Tandoori was magnificient and just the right quantity. Prawns masala charged at INR 270, with some 10 pieces of mid sized prawns, but didnt like it a bit, they seemed like the refrigerated kind/or the ones available in tins. Butter chicken was very ordinary, i like the butter chicken from Grand central more. Prices are comparable to that of Grand central or Vaishali. I think its a good place to pick up chicken tandoori and good only for takeaways. There is a waiting area outside the restaurant with plastic chairs kept

go for take-away; not a good idea to sit-n-dine

food only plus point; all other points score a negative. But if you are in search for a waiter-with-attitude (whatsoever be the reason), check out this place...

And space is at premium here... Don't over-eat or you may get stuck between chair-n-table!!! seriously.....!!!

go for takeaway.

Its worth it

Nice and spicy Punjabi food served in 10 minutes...The food is within the budget...The place is however, is little congested it becomes more crowded after 9 pm as most of the people order for non-veg from here. The non-veg here typically tastes like punjabi food to the core.

Good food with Bad sitting... n WORST Waiter.....

We spotted Lamba's Resturant, once while we were facing a bad traffic....And being temped by its catchy name....we Went to Lamba's about a month ago... ...both Veg and Non Veg are good....so we were really happy with the food they served us with.. we were happy with our findings...although their sitting area inside is a HIGH Minus....
but since we were happy with the food.... we told our friends.. n made a plan to have a dinner there TODAY...
Again great difficulty we all 4 and half ( 4 adults + one kid) could push and fit in ourselves in to their sitting place... and condition was such.. that we wont be able to move even our hands..... so we pushed the seat by Few Inches.. or may be centimeters... and could manage to move our tiny hands at least...
but all the odes we kept aside we didn't want to spoil our mood....
we ordered,... n started enjoying.....
But....after that what so ever happened...really spoiled our mood to great extend....
The Waiter who was serving us.... seemed to be a pampered one...and was on 7th sky.... and as a result he stared scolding our friend's Kid..as why is she not sitting quite...perhaps he expects kids to just Zip their mouth up...
and this he did 2-3 times... n certainly the tone and the way of talk was good enough to put our mood off....
He spoke with the child so badly that her mother had to intervene and tell the waiter not to talk to her kid like this... obviously in Nice tone......
but this episode left us with very bad taste...
N we wowed that we wont be visiting this place....
Lamba's Management,,,, If you guys ever happen to see this review... please get more cultured and OK mannered waiters... if you cant invest in getting good waiters....
WORST Waiter we have ever faced...
SO giving this as one star....just for food...

No lamba line at LAMBA!

Lamba is synonymous with a punjabi dhaba. Its run by sardars and offer proper punjabi fare. The chicken biryani, mutton seekh kabab biryani, tangdi kebab and prawn chilli are worth a try. However, anything other than these are just about okay.

The place is usually crowded on weekends. The prices on the menu are reasonable barring a few dishes where the quantity is very poor. The roti's are just the size of a grown man's hand. The food is a little too oily to consume. This place is great if you are low on cash and wish to have dhaba food. Otherwise, it is average.

Owner can't take a joke

The best prawns fry, tandoori chicken, dal makhani & punjabi food in general at this place. Although the portions are very small, it's the ideal place to feast gluttonously and get drunk. The ambience is very realistic. Bathroom tiles on the wall and hard (granite?) seats fixed to the wall. Even so, I'd have given this a 5 * rating just for the food if it weren't for my being (effectively) thrown out of here. Read on...

Now I'll be the first to admit that I am indeed a very sick and twisted person. I have macabre tastes & a highly inappropriate sense of humour. So when I was lunching with a friend who agrees with this depraved perspective, the conversation naturally entailed descriptions of scenes from Meet the Feebles, pornographic movies, violence, human body parts etc. The owner never once objected to all this and was in fact, listening in keenly. About 20 minutes into the conversation, I brought up the Onion's spoof news report (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/31615) which thoroughly offended the owner. The "news" report pretty much says that 300 naked women were feared lost in a computer crash.

Now this is slightly raunchy but nothing compared to the detailed obscenities that were being uttered prior to this. However, the owner (1 of the 3 Sardars who run the place) got visibly offended by this and reminded us that "this is a public place" which pretty much put an end to the party.

He sure didn't like the idea of 300 naked women perishing in a computer crash.

Worst service award

Lamba has got so many rave reviews before...I've heard its a great place. Maybe it is, if you dont care about the service, cleanliness, ambiance....

My sis called for chicken tikka, it was good, but the murg seekh kebab was nothing great.

And the service! O my God! The waiter was always in a hurry, least bothered about what we were asking for! I had called for a chana chaat and all he got me was boiled chana... Again, he justified saying that "yeh aisa hi aata hai" WAT A LIE....
It took a good 30 mins for the chicken to arrive. Upon asking, he said furiously "arey time to lagega na!"... i understand that a place like Lamba cannot offer 5-star service, but hey! what happen to the concept of basic decency?

Good Food-Try the Prawns Fry

I was directed to Lamba very recently during my visit to Mumbai.

I was fed up eating south indian vegetarian food which is very synonymous with Chembur, and it was a real good change to find Lamba, though I have in my previous visits tried the other places in the Camp area and the Station area too and found that either they are very expensive (station area) and the ones in the camp area are too crowded and too unclean and messy.

Lamba is a Punjabi restaurant and it has a bar permit and is not exclusively a family dining restaurant.

The food was really great, specially they are famous for their Prawns Fry and I recommend that one must for sure try that. The rest of the Punjabi food too is great and I loved it. The price too is reasonable.

The two drawbacks that I could see were that,

1) Lamba doesnt have much space inside or outside so everything is cramped.

2)The waiters just hang around and look dumb without any expression which is annoying while you dine, but then may be its so because of the bar attached, and the kind of customers that they handle there.

Overrated

Been here last night and it was awful, everything that we ordered either wasn't available or was too quick at the table as in too quick less than a minute ( believe me ). the only saving grace was the prawns and the honesty of the waiter who gave my friends cell phone back on being lost there. Otherwise the food is pathetic.
We had the prawns, chicken rashmi kebab, tandoori, sheekh kebab, biryani, dal tadka and steam rice. Total damage done was 1650/- including drinks for 3.
My personal opinion is like your sitting in the boogie of a train and that you have no other option of eating anything else
Very Bad food

No great shakes

Always on a hunt for new places in Chembur, we decided to head here after a long day at work. The inside looked rather cramped, so we sat outside. Which is practically on the street, next to other establishments and the main road.

Ordered a typical meal at a Punju place - Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Biryani and a veg starter... The food was average... nothing succulent or interestingly flavored. Like a regular take-out place. The service was almost too quick - if you know what I mean. You are looking to chill and dawdle over the starters, but the rest of the food arrives too soon.

Damages for the above and 2 softdrinks was 300.

Might keep the takeaway menu, but would not visit again.

OH MY GOD

With Lamba you can be rest assured of the kind of chicken that comes to your plate.... it can only be fantastic!

The place is cheap, doesn't hurt you to drop in even when the month-end starts to show in your bank account.

Crossing Diamond Garden has become so difficult ever since i stepped inside Lamba.... the aroma, just draws you in!

Just 2 Words - Great Food!

I am a regular at this place. Although there is nothing fancy about the ambiance, the food quality and service More than makes up for that. The food is just the best I've ever had. If you are Lamba's, do not miss the daal makhani & the tangdi kababs. Needless to say, it's the seafood at this place that just rocks. The overall atmosphere of this place is comfortable. I think some new dishes were recently added as well.

The joint is family owned and is currently run by Karan Lamba, son of Inder Lamba, the founder of this place. A great family run operation for sure...

Below Average

This place is too expensive for the quality of food that they provide. There is nothing great about the ambience either. Service is average. Over all, it is just a below average restaurant.

The fried prawns is good, no doubt but once again it is too expensive for a Grade II restaurant. The chicken biryani harldy tastes like an authentic biryani. Food is served in steel plates and they really need to upgrade it to glass crockery.

Drinks and alcoholic beverages are also on the expensive side. There is no ventilation for smoke to go out. Very congested and uncomfortable.

Worst Quality of Food and Service

I used to frequent this place often for the food. After one of the owner passed away, need for service and quality gradually disappeared as the younger generation took over. Quality of food now has deteriorated to below levels where hygeine is suspect while the cost of food has escalated three fold. The young turks are highly arrogant and inflexible.

Strictly an avoid if you want your stomach to be in order the next day. Liquor is highly suspect too and you may just end up with a swollen head.

amazing popcorn prawns

the popcorn prawns (that's not what they're really called, but i like the sound of it) at this place are the perfect accompaniment to a cold beer at home. they are served with a wedge of lemon and some pure hari chutney, giving the perfect accents to an otherwise already-amazing drinking snack. i do believe they are lightly breaded and deep fried, but when you're in the lazy afternoon mood to crack open a brewskie and you need something spicy to balance out the cold, fresh Kingfisher, go for these spicy popcorn prawns at Lamba - unbeatable.

Must try for every foodie

Lamba is that little hole in the wall which will never make it to the reviews of magazines or be part of any tourist map..however this is the proverbial Daimond in a coal mine (apart from being next to daimond garden)

Lamba was started by Mr Lamba some 20+ years agao Mr Lamba (whom i remotely know) is over 70 years old today and still himself selects the fish and prawns and makes the Masala and marinate used in the hotel.

now for the must haves
1. Prawn Birwani ---its so good that I make it a point to order it for each of my international partner who joins me for lunch....

2. Fried Rawas...its tender and hevenly

dont forget to ask for some extra green chatni its great too

3. Fried Prawns (amritsar style)
u will love that...watchout for the calories

4. Kababs & meats
all kinds are kababs are great as they are made in charcoal grill and marinated with mr lambas secret sauce..

all the items are very moderately priced

it is more a take away than a dine-in (originally designed for the truckers who are going out of mumbai) so go for it ....enjoy

Excellent food but poor ambience

Restaurant is well known in its area for the sea food. Prawns, Rawas and Promfet is excellent. But ambience of the hotel is not suited for ladies. Families who want to enjoy sea food generally prefer take aways.
