The Kheema Ghotala is the best

It is a regular place I used to go to in Bandra. The food is really good but the prices have been increasing over the years at a fast rate which is unexpected.

I've had the mutton and chicken there but the Kheema Ghotala is the tastiest thing I have had there.

The ambiance is normal but good enough. The service is really good even though they are crowded.

Best place for biryani!

When you hear about lucky restaurant the only word that comes to mind is their biryani! The chicken and mutton biryani is the best .. Its so pocket friendly!
The kebabs also are really tasty .. This place is always very crowded..I also like their chicken tandoori a lot but specially go there for their chicken biryani..Its heaven for biryani lovers and trust me there are not a lot of good places to have some good biryani at such cheap prices..

Yummy Biryani

Lucky's biryani is so famous it is always splashed in newspapers too and many celebs are also its fan..I like the chicken and mutton biryani a lot too, and chicken cutlet and seekh kebab are also delicious..this is one of those places I have never tasted any veg dish because I don't see the point and I don't think it would be tastier than the non veg dishes anyway, maybe I am wrong but I will stick to the chicken and mutton biryani!

biryani heaven

my family is full of carnivores who actually cannot cook non veg food well but will leave no opportunity to order it! Lucky's biryani is ordered in our house atleast once every month for my hubby especially who attacks it like the last piece of food on this planet! he cannot stop singing its praises so all the stars are just for biryani, never had anything else from here!

Hair in the kebab

This place is very famous and people get in with high expectations but sometimes they don't get what is expected like a hair in the seekh kebab. Also the number of kebabs per plate is not fixed some get three some get five.

Yummy Biryani

The biryani here is outstanding. They have set a bench mark in terms of taste and quality in the city. The chicken and mutton pieces in the biryani are chunky and succulent. Quite generous with quantity too. Would recommend ordering in rather than eating out here.

Lucky ke biryani and kebab, enough said!
This place is famously know for their biryani and kebabs and it definitely lived up to the hype. I love their seekh kebabs, hariyali kebabs, galouti kebab and mutton chaap. The biryani ofcourse is yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Everyone needs to have biryani from here at least once.

Biryani fans, better not miss this one!

I happened to visit this on a friend's recommendation in a lunch break from college though in a rush, I enjoyed the food. What you should never, never and never miss out on is the Chicken Tikka Biryani, spicy, smokey, delectable, subtle yet falvourful retaining all the flavours; left me smiling and satiated. The kheema pulao however, contradicted to the delectable taste ofthe biryani; The flavours of the spices smudged and the kheema was in such an awfully little quantity that I didn't taste it. The location is superb, not very hard to miss; price reasonable and an average service. so summing up it was a god experience sans the Kheema pulao.

Best Avoided

First of all, i must admit, that i have been visiting Lucky for close to 3.5 years now and was its huge fan.. the biryani used to be a delight then.. but off-lately there has been a huge disappointment in terms of the quality of food, ambience out there and the worst of all the service.

Recent experience: Been there and ordered Chicken Boneless biryani and we get served normal chicken biryani... ok accepted that mistakes do happen.. but the waiter was too reluctant to replace the order.... and after persistently asking him to get it replaced, the best he does is takes the chicken pieces removes the bones and re-serves the shredded chicken....Sad... Dude!! whom r u tryin to fool?

Secondly we ordered Roomali roti with chicken tava... Roomali roti was nothing but cold spread of maida with was dry and barely edible.... best bet was to leave it un-consumed.... Chicken tava was nothin but few chicken shredded pieces floating in oil and nothing else... its a sheer waste of money and time to visit Lucky now... dats how our entire group felt... rest assured none of us r gonna visit this restaurant any more... bandra has far more better options to offer....

Yuppie Yummy Lucky

I guess thats all how you can describe Lucky n itsls food. Its been here for zen years n guess will be there till the eternity.

there isn't any specific dish that I can say is the best. Because each and every diah is delightful. You can always start with a Mutton / Paya soup followed by Kheema Pav and whether you are a rice buff or not. You have to end with a Mutton Biryani or a chicken one. I always prefer Mutton here as it literally melts in your mouth.

Well... At the end of your meal you must have the Caramel Custard as a dessert.

Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye!

You would definitely do the bhangra after eating at this restaurant. The authentic and large in quantity portions make up for an awesome lunch time indulgence. Without a doubt, you must have the Boneless Biryani if not tried before. Other than that the Paya Soup, Bheja Masala Fry, and Mutton Afghani are truly authentic Indian Dishes you absolutely must have! You'd truly feel Lucky by the end of your meal ;)

Biryani mein dum hai

Have been a regular at this place for quite some time now. The chicken biryani is to die for and nothing works better than caramel custard to top off an extremely satisfying dining experience.
Have hardly tried anything else and i don't think i'll be doing it anytime soon either.

PS: If you're tall, like me, mind your head in the AC area of the hotel.

Biryaaaaani- waah!

Some say the place is over rated, but I somehow disagree. I would rate it as the best biryani joint in Mumbai. Absolutely delicious- aromatic , filled with the right proportion of spices. Love the caramel custard too. Other Indian main course is nice as well. If you are a vegetarian, you may give this a pass.

Been here on valentine's day with my friends...the place is good with a lot of firangis moving in and out...Talking about food when the food is in your mouth you might not wanna utter any word but just relish the very taste of Iran on your taste buds..The romali roti is never ending and so soft it just melts in mouth best served with chicken handi. The service however is not so good

Luckyyy

Biryani in the suburbs was synonymous with Lucky at one time. However, having grown up in town I had never had a chance to sample the same until a few years ago. To say the truth it was quite disappointing and it really did not live upto its reputation.

I cannot say the biryani was bad, but nothing about it was memorable and the taste did not linger, a sharp contrast to the Kareem's biryani near the Jama Masjid in Delhi, which I can still taste in my mind even as I write this.

My recent sojourn to Lucky was on the way back from a meeting in Bandra, when I realized it to be lunch time and lo and behold: the taxi was in front of Lucky. So I jumped off and went in, into one of the airconditioned room, as I was quite hot and wanted a cool place to eat my steaming biryani.

Farwell to Shiraz

This is a place for a total non veg foodie who has not eaten for days
No fuss ambience , simple seating , actually you dont go to lucky for ambience , its purely eating . Tandoori chicken was excellent in taste , texture and price ,
Butter chicken went well with the Butter Naan ( a little raw and tough though) but best of all was the Biryaani , a must have when you come to Lucky . I was pleasantly surprised with the caramel custard , smooth and had perfect flavours .
It was a nice evening with my building friends . We wish you all the Best Shiraz and a Feasty bye bye

Best Hyderabadi biriyani in Mumbai

One of my friend recommended this place to me as a place to have authentic Hyderabadi Biriyani- and we decided to hop in to this place one day. It looked more like a typical Hyderabadi Irani cafe than a restaurant, and if anyone has visited such a cafe can understand the decor.

We two were seated immediately. When the waiter came—we asked simply him that what are the good dishes in starter. Whenever I go to a restaurant and i have no reference point/ recommendation then I always ask the waiter for his choice (of course, before giving my preferences like I need a starter which os not overtly spice, boneless chicken etc. etc.), To our utter surprise, the waiter did not seem eager to help adn said “yahan sab kuchh achcha hai”. Ok- but there should be some speciality or signature dish, right?

Anyway, we ordered one kabab plate and one chicken biriayni. Surprisingly they brought both of these together. The kabab (pahari kaba) was decent in taste and succulent in nature. The biriyani is Hyderabadi biriyani—but the quantity was too lees. We had to order one more (in Hyderabad, one Hyderabadi biriyani is enough for 2 or maybe 3 people).

Overall, good place and would recommend highly for people who loves Hyderabadi biriyani.

HORRIBLE!

Horrible is not enough to describe how bad the standards of the food here has become. It once used to be quite popular and served delicious food. But now it is disgusting. The biryani was half cooked. The papad dripped of excess oil. The custard was raw. Highly disappointed with their service.

Best biryani

It is quite unfortunate that few places in the city make an authentic biryani. Frankly, what is served at most places in the name of biryani is an abomination. Lucky is one of those few places and the biryani here is a treat to one's taste buds.

I have never been inside the place (we have always had the food delivered or picked up), so can not comment on the interiors or service. Though they have an extensive menu, but never tried anything oher than biryanis and would highly recommend all to try out the biryanis here.

had been to lucky on a weekday, the place was moderately crowded. on arrival i ordered for a bottle of water which wasn't delivered on time(after 3 requests he did). later i ordered the mutton biryani(for which luck is wellknown), it seemed to be leftover stuff what they had served us. we argued with the management but they refused to remake it or to erase from the bill, finally we left the place in total disappointment.

Lucky's Biryani....Best biryani!

You can't call yourself a Biryani lover if you haven't had it at Lucky's. Serving lip-smacking biryani and other chicken-mutton dishes for years together.

A basic eatery with a neat seating divided into ac and non-ac. Service is good but tends to get a little slow. Or may be it is the desperation to eat that makes it look like a long wait! Either way I won't hold that against them.

Food-wise they have everything going right for them. I've heard a lot about their kheema-pav for breakfast but haven't been able to give it a try. Chicken Tikka, Pahadi kebabs and Mutton cutlets are juicy and yum. Chicken Afghani and Mutton Chilli Hot Masala are to die for. Try their roomali rotis, they are soft and nice! Now the big one - Pick any of their biryanis and you won't complain. They have a perfect formula for making one of the best biryanis in Mumbai.

Very reasonable. A hearty meal for 2 will cost you Rs 600-650. Only thing to be kept in mind is...the food here tends to get a little oily.
I recommend this place without a doubt.

I ordered Veg Briyani for this christmas lunch i.e. 25/12/2011. I ordered 4 plates and it was so horrible no taste, masala was horrible, rice was not cooked. I had to throw all of them. For Rs.130/- a plate its is not worth Rs.30/-. My family was so upset as we ruined our christmas lunch, I still have the bill with me. I was really unlucky & stupid to have a briyani from lucky. Crushed bones in Chicken Biryani?!

Wanted to write about this since quite long. Have been to and ordered from Lucky, more than 10 times till date. Recently ordered Chicken Biryani for me and 5 of my friends, at BKC (Not so far from Lucky). Usually one would expect 2 - 3 pieces of Chicken with every rice ordered. To our surprise, we got one boney chicken piece per plate and two potato pieces. Very Disappointing. While we continued to have the rice one of us highlighted that this dish is NOT Chicken Biryani but Mutton Biryani (Disappointment 2). Later we learned that he also charged Rs. 250 extra for Raita that should usually come with the Biryani (Disappointment 3). Also the rice contained tiny crushed bones which could be felt while munching. Quite a number of times before this, I've experienced crushed bones in rice ordered from lucky (even Chinese). Lucky Restaurant owners and staff should learn that money isn't everything to run a restaurant. They should look into the quality consistency also. Hope that they do not go from Lucky to Yucky!

The Ambiance is that of a normal irani resto ...they might have a shoddy service ...but who care's when they serve the best Biryani and Reshmi Kabab in the sector ... i have a sweet tooth so fall for all sweet things ...go for small cuppy caramel custard they serve.....even though lil expensive for its size ...but it leaves you with a good taste to the mouth ...that just had some spices in a few mins back ... over all Must try place.

Biryani and much more......

Most people will go to Lucky or write about Lucky for its famous biryani. While my personal belief is that it is the best by far in Mumbai, I will try and talk about some other aspects of this restaurant.

Lucky is a place for tasty food and nothing more. If you've gone there expecting a fancy restaurant with high class crowd, then you're in the wrong place. Not to say that Lucky does not have good crowd; rather it has people from all walks of life eating at the place. They've got a newly renovated AC section, which is many notches up from the previous one.

If one gets beyond the biryani, Lucky has awesome a la carte options in mughlai fare - both veg and non veg. A superb selection of kulfies and faloodas is good enough to complete the meal. The pricing is total value for money and one never walks out of Lucky without a satisfied look on the face.

Some of the other benefits of Lucky, which I have enjoyed over time are the late night hours - its open till after midnight; and the valet parking - whose valets will recognize and greet you even if you have gone back after many years.

I just cannot end without the 'biryani'. There is something called the Dum Biryani, which is what they specialize in. All other types of biryanies (which are most common) are rice cooked separately and served with gravy. The beauty of dum biryani, as compared to that, can only be tasted/felt and not explained. And if you've not been able to experience the same after eating it, that's just too bad for you!!

I had seen and heard about the place for a long time. So, I went along with my family all the way from Vile-Parle to have lunch.
The service was pathetic. The waiter serving us had a lot of attitude. He took the order as if he was doing a favour on us. This was the first time in my life that the Masala Papad had arrived at the end of the meal. The food was pathetic. The chicken tikka and banjara kebab were burnt, hard and rubber like. Beware, you will be UNLUCKY if you visit LUCKY.

Hope for a Lucky Day

The biryani is "usually" good and that is the problem. You'd need to wish for your "lucky" day when you try out the biryani.

On a "lucky" day, the biryani is certainly good and one of the better ones you'll get in this city. For those not familiar to biryani of this area, the potatoes may come as a surprise, but thats the way the bohri biryani is made. The mutton biryani is better as it usually is when it comes to biryani.

The tough part of the biryani is getting the aroma and flavour permeate into the rice. The process takes time. I think keeping pace with demand leads to compromising with cooking principles and some days you just end up with less than ordinary grub.

The chicken kalimirch tikka is quite good. The place is not recommended for gravy dishes or for vegetarian grub. Vegetarians can pass it off.

There's not much of an ambience to speak of. Its on a busy road, your better off with out a car when coming here. The feel is that of any typical small restaurant, and honestly the carry aways are not a bad option if this sounds discouraging.

I recommend a couple of tries at the place before you write it off. I like revisiting the place periodically.

A Lucky Day

I had a lucky day when I visited Mumbai last month. I started the day with some soft, soft pavs, kheema, fried eggs and banana shake. For lunch I had the mind blowing chicken kichdi. Wow! I'm longing for it now. For dinner, I had Chicken biriyani. Very mild, very tasty, very different. What a lucky day. Thank you Lucky.

Great Food. Cheap Prices. Shoddy Service

It was a regular place earlier but this visit was after a long time. We were three and had huge quantities of food.

For Starters - 1 Chicken Sweet Corn Soup, 1 Paya Soup, 1 Chicken Sheekh Kababs, 2 Prawns Koliwada

For Main Course Food - 1 Chicken Tikka Masala with rotis and naan, 1 Mixed Fried Rice.

For Desserts - Plain Falooda and Triple Icecream

Total Damage - 1100 bucks.

Very Reasonable in the AC section. This place has 5 section I guess. Two Non-AC and Three AC.

Great food and great prices. Service leaves a lot to be desired. But you can't except everything...

best biryani

the most mouth watering biryani ever eaten in mumbai.
sadly they don't accompany it with the raita(charged extra),and biryani without the raita is somewhat incomplete.

a ride downhill

Quality wise that is, it really is a ride down hill. There was a time when one could swear by the Biryanis and the mughlai dishes of Lucky but now it is better to skip it and move ahead.

The price may look reasonable but the portions are fare too less than what is expected. The service is sloppy and unfriendly and the hygiene levels are low too.

Have been a regular here before especially cause the Biryani used to be extremely tasty with the tender meat and the potatoes and the rich masala. Hope the management mends its ways and regains the lost glory of this once landmark restaurant.

Saving on the Masala??

we have an office in BKC and we used to order from Lucky every alternate Friday as all the guys in Office loved Biryani.

In the past few weeks we have been noticing that the the masala in the Biryani is reducing in qty. when we asked whay so, we got a very rude reply from the guy on the couonter.
A suggestion was made to pay for extra masala.

But if we had to pay fro the masala and also Biryani separatley then might as well order biryani from somewhere else.

So my opinion about Lucky in bandra had crashed drastically after this repeated hapenning.

Fingerlicking good

Lucky seems to put that extra special something in the bryani that they serve. The bryani is light, non oily with good portions of chicken and is just awesome.

I would say in the past four years that I have been eating food from them I have experienced nothing less that excellent food. The tandoori chicken that they have is blended with the right amount of masala and is incomparable.

Guys here is one place that is more than value for money.

Yum-O!

Lucky serves amazing non vegetarian mughlai food & its very reasonably priced. Almost every one who comes here goes for the Chicken Biriyani. You get one of the best biriyanis in the city here..although I must say that the quality of the biriyani has declined over the years. Prawn Kolhiwada is a must-try...Its spicy & so crisp that its gonna be one of the dishes that u'll always order when u come here.

Vegetarian dishes are hardly worth a try!

An evening of Horror!

What was supposed to be a casual dinner, turned out to be a “night of terrors”. It wasn’t such a 'Lucky’ feeling for me and my family on my visit to this restaurant on October 5, 2016. One of my worst experience in a restaurant. Well they say,“ Form is temporary but class is permanent”. Its indeed true for a place like this joint. When they were at the peak of their business they managed to con an ocean of devout followers, serving authentic dum “Biryani’s”. But looks like it’s all going downhill. Proving a point is more important for the management and the waiters, than getting a dish right. Seems like the winning formula here is to intensify the flavour of chillies packed in every dish. What is overwhelming with every bite is the engulfing taste of chillies coating your taste buds which isn’t appealing to the senses. The waiter concluded that they would alter the level of spice to suit our palette. The appetizers arrived doused in chilly powder and the papads were burnt like a skin tan from the scorching sun. How can someone get something so basic, wrong?! We followed it up with seekh kababs which was alright, the chicken tandoori arrived cold as if right out of the morgue. Prawns Koliwada looked shriveled and unappetizing, like they beat it to its death.
The raita is an accompaniment to balance the spices in a main course, but they ruined that too. And the chicken biryani in its state was a sad demise.
