overpriced but good biryani

There food is really overpriced but the biryani is a must try. It's a Lucknowi style biryani that they make with flavour of saffron. It's also a good place to go if you have kids because of the whole jungle theme.

Machaan Review

Many people like to rate restaurants on the basis of their food, but i like to do it differently. I start rating, right from my first interaction, cause its not only about the food, its about the experience. If i wanted only food, i can always hire good cooks to come home and make good food. So getting back to the review.
It all started with a thursday, me and a couple of batch mates decided to meet up along with our DEAN (80+ in age but a rockstar) for lunch on sunday.
We zeroed in on Machan, and i dont like to wait for a table, so i called them up to reserve one. The lady did answer my call but requested if she could call back as she was on the other line, to which i agreed. The first thought came to my mind - "ya right as if you will call back", and to my surprise she did (within 5mins). I discussed with her my requirement and the fact that its a reunion so i cant really give her a confirm no. of seats at the moment - to which she suggested, that she will call me on sunday itself and take the confirm no. and do the needful. ( 4 stars already ).
So as promised she calls me 1 hr before my booking time and confirms.
On the D day, i reach there on time, the table is ready everything is in order. Then when the DEAN come in, the manager himself helps him to the table and makes sure he is seated and comfortable (4 stars again). Once the majority are in, we request them to start with the starters. Around 5 veg starters and 4 NVeg starters.
Paneer tikka - nice and tender, not too heavy on the masala
Methi Kumb (mushroom) - creamy and tasty , well cooked and not at all chewy.
Palak Chaat - the dish of the day , crispy (but not fragile) with the right amount of chutney and toppings.
Chickien and mutton kebabs (dont know which ones) - but again were well cooked, but the chicken kebabs had bones.
Patara Macchi (fish) - Very well cooked and nice and soft, but the green chutney was nothing like the one on the authertic patra ni macchi. (but yet everyoneseemed to like it).
Mutton Seek - Nice, but not juicy or melt in the mouth tender.
The Cocktails were also good, but the ones free with the buffet were little light on the alcohol.
As for the main course, there were around 6 veg and 5 non vegs.
3 live counters and 8 desserts.
The mains were good especially the dal makhani and panner as for the Nvegs - the chicken methi was worth a mention and People seemed to love the manglorian prawns.
Also the live counter had tawa fish and mushroom (each had separate pans). the fish was once again a winner.
The desserts too were good
Jalebi - though freshly made at the counter, was not crispy.
Gulab Jamuns - nice hot and soft, not too sweet to.
Caramel Custard - one of the bests, but very small portions and due to the buffet setup, it was difficult to pour some caramel syrup over the pieces.
Payasam - Sorry no one at our table tried it.
Balck forst and slice cake - not most desirable looking , but good in taste, fresh cream and nice spongy cake.
Kulfi and Ice Cream - Just as good as any regular ice cream or kulfi. The kulfi though was not the " it will bend the steel spoon - hard" type.

Service - I have already mentioned some points above -
But the guy who was attending us "prashant ", made sure we got what ever we needed promptly, be it spoons, spirits or food.
But couple of dilikes -
1. the moment you say GO - they just rush in with the starters - its like a timer is ticking.
2. the guy who was serving us, was a sweet chap. But he was trained not to stop at any cost, just serve the customer, even if they want to you to wait.
3. Also he hardly had any knowledge of what he was serving.

The place is well made, the whole jungle theme. The music is good and not to loud.
But sometimes the dim lighting plays a spoiler and the way they have spaced the tables, you have to look 360" before pushing your chair to get out.

Management needs to note, that most of the indians are not familiar with the term CHIVALRY, they just go about doing and moving things with out looking around.

All in all a good time spent and a good EXPERIENCE .

okayish

Went to machaan last week, had their buffet, price is almost same as bbq nation, only difference is in the ambience. Machaan is better. But apart from the ambience, bbq nation scores on all fronts, ...service in particular, one has to call the wait staff at machaan wherein bbq nation, the wait staff need to be told , we will call u when read, the food also bbq is better, machaan is good for one time otherwise if u want to regularly savor kebabs, its bbq nation all the way

50% liked Machaan Buffet

I had read the service is slow but experienced as well. The service is pathetic. The think to serve you with starters. Other places the get seeker and keep it on the table but here they get 2 pieces at one time. I visited this place on 31st December 2012. Mutton Seek was good but Lassoni Chichen was so so and Red tandoori chicken was pathetic. Fish was good. Veg starters and main course was good. Chicken Gravy was pathetic and Mutton Biryani was good. Gajar Halwa was not sounding fresh. Gulab Jamun were good. Ambiance was only change and were happy to feel something different. Rs. 700 not worth per buffet.

Nice Buffet spread

We visited Machaan on a weekday and hence did not get much waiting. Having tried both veg and non veg fare, the veg food was much better than the non veg, however non veg wasnt that bad either!
The complimentary drink was refreshing. Veg starters like Jeera Paneer, Corn aloo tikki and Mushrooms were nice. Non veg starters was quite ok which included Malai Chicken, Fish Tikkas, Chicken kebabs.
The main course was a generous spread of 3 -4 veg dishes (Dal Makhani, Paneer Masala, Veg Kadhai, Veg Biryani) and many non veg dishes (Mutton Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Crabs - yummy! and Fish curry.) The assortment of rotis was decent and it was a treat to eat them as they were freshly made by chefs in our presence.
The dessert range was few but delightful with Gulab jamun, tiramisu, caramel custard and pastries.
The staff was prompt and courteous and the jungle theme ambience a novelty. All in all a great option if you're in mood for a sumptuous buffet!

Lost its charm....

I have visited Machaan 2-3 times since it started in Malad. Enough has been said/written about the ambiance of the place so I'll skip to the food part of it. My first visit was highly satisfactory. However during my following visits we noticed a steep rise in the price of food and fall in the quality. That’s all in the past now the old Machaan has given way to one that has only a buffet lunch and dinner. They had a pretty good Indian spread.
They had 2 chicken, 1 fish and 3 veg starters, which were served on the table. However the portion they served was small (you can ask for more but it takes while before they serve it!!). The starters were very good and had varied flavors. The main course had nothing new to offer, the biriyani was good. Desserts were regular. The jalebis were nice and crispy. Moderately priced, approx Rs. 500 pp
Overall its worth a try. Wish the place was better lit.

Pathetic food

I went yesterday (Sunday) for non veg lunch buffet. We were greeted with few people. It was pleasing. The starters were served on the table. We had chicken, fish and lamb. Believe me, it was tasteless. The chicken was not cooked properly and the lamb kebab was garbage. In the main course there was chicken biryani which was pathetic it was not at all tasty. The desserts had lots to offer but was of no taste. The jelabis were burnt. The vanilla ice cream tasted so bad as if somebody made the ice cream for the first time at home. The brownie tasted very old. It was really bad food. Not worth it for the cost.

worthy & satisfying experience

Went with a couple of friends, we liked the off beat ambience, the servers are polite & attentive but sometimes they rush with the food which might make u feel they want u to eat and leave fast.. Starters are the best, will make u wish u had a large stomach & never ending hunger as they are delicious, fresh & the variety is great. Main course is not one of the best as the food is kept as buffet, doesn't give u a hot & fresh feeling. But the deserts will make u ignore that. Loved the variety & taste. Overall experience was great, there is great value for money. Just a small request, kindly ask the servers to be patient while serving the starters, your food is worth enjoying, please do not rush with the service & give customers a "u r taking a lot of time" feeling.. Otherwise, its a 10/10. Looking forward for many more visits

Slow service and bad desserts

Went to the place for lunch on a weekend. We had reached a bit early and so were lucky to get a table immediately, as we could a crowd of people waiting for the tables by the time we finished. The décor is done in jungle style with extensive use of bamboo, wood and leaves. They have a fixed price menu where starters are served on the table while the main course and desserts are in buffet.

The soup was served promptly but the starters were painfully slow to come. Most of the veg starters were fried ones which was a bit disappointing. In terms of taste too, the starters were pretty average. The main course was exceptional, both in variety as well as taste. The dal makhani and the biryani deserve a special mention. They are not to be missed if one is dining here. Some live counters making pasta etc. were also there. The desserts were a huge disappointment and consisted mainly of below par Indian sweets.

The staff was very courteous but the service was slow. Maybe they need to increase the headcount in the kitchen.

Very very bad service

We had a group celebration (office) at Machaan on the 24th Feb.I did read the reviews online and was expecting a good meal & service but was very dissatisfied on the service. We were around 46 people and only 2-3 waiters were assigned to us. We were literally hungry and the waiter use to serve only 2-3 pieces of starters (chicken, fish) and the next round round was after a wide gap of 15-20 mins. We informed this situation to the restuarant manager but stil there were no improvements. Finally we decided to start off with the main course.

machaan staff

Me and my 4 frnds had been to Machaan on the 04th of Feb, last Saturday. Must say, we came out satisfied. As usual the food was amazing. But the most satisfying part was the staff. We would like to very specially mention abt Chirag Suchak (Rest. Manager) & Prabhat our service guy. They both were amazing & did a wonderful job. They not only did a great job with us, but also with the others in the restaurant. I come from the Hotel Industry too & I know how much hardship & staying on the feet is needed. Kudos to Chirag Suchak & Prabhat for that amazing job. We will be back very soon.

PS: Pls start ur buffet with drinks that you have stopped. I know with current price increase, its very difficult to serve at the old price, but we won't mind a slight increase, trust me that will increase ur sale more.

While a gesture of appreciation is the best form of motivation, I must point out at this juncture, that without constructive feedback from distinguished patrons such as yourself, it would be difficult to constantly redefine our services. It has always been our endeavor to provide our guests with an experience that is high in both quality and standards a

Disgraceful management

It was 31st night and we had booked our table way in advance. Best example how the attitude changes of the management before you buy their service and after you buy the same. Booked a table for 7. 5 of us entered and we were denied the table for the most illogical reasoning given by the 'Star' manager Mr.Chirag that all 7 must be present at one go. Mr.Chirag lacks the decency to talk to his customers and has no interest in serving guests. Its a shame on any Restaurant if it has to give the customer advance money back. Dont know about food must be good but the management, especially Mr,Chirag should be avoided for any encounter u have there. Machaan all in all waste of time and energy especially for my 31st....

Unsatisfactory Service and attitude of management

We as usual opted to take our loved one's to a treat to Machaan at Malad as they arrived from Dubai, But we had a terrible experience last evening. On arrival we were told we were the first in the waiting and we would be provided with a table soon. After a long wait of around 20 minutes and looking at some guests getting a table before us we approached the Manager incharge Mr. Chirag who showed such a cold and do not care attitude. He kept saying we would have to still wait even after noticing our children so hungry. This kind of attitude is just not the right approach to a regular client. The restaurant and the food is good but the approach made us so disappointed. Espically when we had vistors from abraod. Don't think we will go there again!

You need to send the restaurant Manager for some hospitality training as you are losing business only because of him - he was literally fighting back with us as if he was doing us a favour and he refused us a table eventually, That day we were around 15 guests and we are not foolish to spend so much money at this restaurant if we will get treated like this..please do let us know what action you have taken to correct the situation as the post above also seems to be a complain against the restaurant manager!

A Day to remember!!

I would like to thank "Machaan" management for making my day special. A last minute booking on weekend with special arrangements for a special occasion was handled very well by their staff. They made my day. We had gone for their Lebanese & Indian buffet.. Amazing food, prompt service & value for money. The Lebanese cuisine was very aptly prepared & served.. Recommend this place with a thumbs up.

Good Ambience and a little Pricey!

We had gone there for my birthday and we opted for the a-la-carte. The ambiance completely made us feel like we are in a machaan in a rainforest arrangement..
Our friend ordered for a birthday cake and they made it very special. The team sang a pretty birthday song while I cut the cake..
A little pricey for the decent food. Not great though.. But we visited the place mainly for its ambiance.
Good place to visit once.

Wonderful Atmosphere and good Desserts

Since we had a family gathering we decided to dine at Machaan. We opted for Buffet ,the Non-AC section so that we can get fresh Barbeque items fresh at our table, the atmosphere with slow music along with the decoration caught our attention and we were really amazed by the environment. The staff were very Hospitable and we were offered wonderful service. Food was good , Desserts were excellent given the fact that 5-6 varieties were provided. Drinks are expensive I would discourage you if you are on a low budget. Well they say price equals quality , I still found it a bit expensive once the bill was delivered. Overall its good ,the services the food and a good man made environment (Jungle Theme).

Stale sea food with stale service

I been here before on Sunday and I was so impressed by the service and food that I decided to bring my family on occasion of Dasara. The entire experience was devastating.
We were all non-vegetation so we asked for non veg. Now starters coming on table (all the veg first) and then sometime in middle soup ?? I thought it was always soup first then starters. We asked for a beer which never came till we reminded one more time. We were not served with welcome drink till we reminded. Now here comes fish starter which was sized 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm (horrible) and it was stale. Atleast the next time size was bigger. Being a hardcore fish eater I can easily get the stale smell of the fish. Again we atleast told 2-3 times that bring us chicken tandoori but again sometime on their will they did bring it. I asked for pani puri which was not served came somewhere when I was ended up eating biryani. Main course the crab was so stale that they were actually stinking badly. Lamb was like a good rubber. But strangely prawns were good. Biryani only had lots of oil and with boiled chicken. The only saving part was deserts atleast they were good. When the bill came I was charged extra for beer. Not to mention it took 5-10 mins for bill to come and 5-10 mins for correction and 5-10 mins for my remaining amount of bill to come. I think they knew we are not happy so never provided with the feedback form.
Overalll - I will not visit here again since i am not interested in paying 550 +tax+tax for stale food. If you want to visit then visit on Sunday since that's the only day they get sea food and serve for renaming week.

Have lots of money? Then dont read this.

We, a group of 9, booked a table in advance. When we reached at the specified time (12:00 PM) the entire restaurant was empty, except for one table. Still it took the waiter 15 minutes to seat us. Chicken Shorba was served promptly. There was not even a trace of chicken in the shorba. When the same was pointed out to the waiter, he just smiled (what more should a customer ask for). Time for starters. Prompt service for the first round. Taste was strictly ok. When asked which fish is been served as Fish Tandoori, the reply was "Vietnamese Fish". When a repeat of starters were requested for only two types were served (out of the assortment of 12). When we insisted for the second round of those missing starters there was no sign of it arriving. We gave up on starters and went for main course. Nothing great to boast about. Normal fair.
Dessert was best of the available lot. The starter was brought at the time of our dessert. The reason being another group who had just come in & starters were being served to them. The waiter with those starters could see our dessert plates & still asked if we would like to have them.
Great place if you want to impress someone with the ambience but at a high price and food that's not great at all.
Best is the veg buffet ehich was given as complimentary where the offer was "Eat 5 pay for 4". Of 8 Non Veg & 1 Veg, the lesser value Non-Veg was given as complimentary (where any service oriented restaurant would have had courtesy to give the 1 Veg as complimentry). I would definitely never visit this place. Rest is your money & decision.

I had been with my family, the food was awesome, the quality served was good particularly the paneer, the shorba could have been on a sweeter side, the ambiance was good but the cooling was not to the mark particularly on the table no. 20 where we were seated. The warm welcome and the service by the staff is appreciable. I appreciate the chef for maintaining the authenticity of the recipes. Would surely visit the place again for the food.

Misleading Menu

I had heard a lot about this place from friends, and decided to pay a visit to them. Had checked the menu for the evening, before checking in. My friends reached there before me and had physically checked the menu handed over to them on the table. I'm not sure what happened that day, when we placed the order for Non Veg. The menu changed completely and we were served stuff that we had not approved of. Even the booze served was of pathetic quality. Had lots of hopes, and was really disappointed with the treatment being dished out, spoke to the captain but to no vain. He just knew one word "SORRY". Will never visit this place again.

One of the places that i love to vist...with friends or family..they have very gud range of appetizers, soups always taste gud, and so does the main course..not to forget the yum pastries and other indian sweets in their dessert list.
If someone's treating you its gotta be MACHAAN. !

A good attempt to serve north Indian flavor

Spacious jungle with lots of benches to sit on! A little gloomy due to dim lights, old soft toys (animals) & the noise of animals. If not overpriced, the prices are not reasonable too, service is not that good. Food by the time it reaches your table remains warm and not piping hot.

Food satisfies your taste buds!

North Indian Flavor

Start with a glass of Junglee Chaas (butter milk), Crispy & Crunchy Fish Tandoori gives your taste buds a heavenly feeling & Mushy Kebabs melts in your mouth. Continue with Chooja Kalimirch, Rogni Ghosht, Dal Machaan and Kartoos Kofta with Laacha Paranthas or Tandoori Roti.
Once you finish with this don't forget trying Anjeerwali Phirni or Kulfi Glasswali.

Can visit always with family

"Machaan" is again out of my few choices I have, if need to eat in suburbs or nearby..Lovely food, Great ambiance, been there almost 4-5 times and loved food always, though they can create more varieties as people love to experiment with new dishes,we liked the starters, they always came again to offer starters to us, we were so tired of eating, be it veg or non-veg, its always enjoyable to spend time there in group and to have gr8 taste of food....

Can definitely recommend it to my friends who have not been there yet... :)

nice experience...

A nice place to hangout with ur friends, good ambiance, ok food. I have rated this place 4/5 jus for crabs which were awesome. Food served was jus warm and not hot enough but its k. Good service..had to fite a little for a nice place which v eventually got....had a gr8 experience worth revisiting this place. Costs u around 450rs each a lil over-rated which includes a long list of taxes tht u pay along with the bill.

PS : make a reservation before u go to get a good table.

Jungle Main Mangal

Hungry and wanna stuff your self with unlimited starters , main course and dessert then this is a place to be... Its got a good spread of veg ,non veg starters thats surprizingly mouth watering too...unlike some restaurants where they focus on quantity but not quality... the main course was disappointing though as it was the same old mix of biryani, bhindi , gobi, paneer which is every restaurants safe choice...Talking about the ambience...jungle inspired from the famous restaurants of americas ' tropical forest', is a favorite amongst children...Recommended for families and bunch of friends interested in some nice time with tasty unlimited starters...

Pathetic

apparently i had such a bad experience with Machaan that i would positively recommend that no one visits that place till they learn how to manage crowd n customers... buffet cost is Rs.475.... just one round of 5 starters after which u never get to c them again... very limited quantity served.. no water served... no grill heated no spoons... main course dishes were limited and cold... even after complaining bare minimum attention was given.. but the bill was presented well on time... BAD is the word!!! i took 11 guests with me thinking it will b a good experience but it was horrible...

Poor Service and bad food

The food was ordinary, the servings were miserly. The service was bad. All the items promised on the buffet menu were not present and experience was not good. Of the 5 vegetarian starters on the menu, the waiters served us only one (potatoes.).
It was pretty sorry state. Not planning to back again.
When we went the place was pretty full (some party going on I guess). They fixed us some temporary tables but after the service to these tables was very poor and we had to struggle to get the waiters attention. Once in a while the waiter would realize we existed and get us some starters (usually the ones which he already served).
It would have been better if they had refused us entry as they were full instead of serving (or rather not serving), in this way.

not bad

this place rocks, had gone there last week wid my husband, it was an amazing experience.. we did have to wait for long between the starters, but it was understandable coz of the piping hot food that followed.. just that your waiters are slightly slow with their work, wonder if its coz of the dim lighting here.. plz check, i don't want people to not like the place as i'm throwing a party there for my bro today..

Experience of literally living life KING SIZE!

When my brother-in-law said that he was taking us out to celebrate his daughter's b'day to a fantastic place at Malad, we wondered how good could this place be? Two plain reasons for our apprehension were, where is the place for an ‘out of world experience (which he promised)’ in a suburb like Malad and how can you get good cuisines two main parts of the non-veg vertical - meat & sea food under one roof.
To our surprise, when we reached Machaan, the first look on our face was 'OMG' this place looks fantastic. As we entered we had this feeling of having dinner amidst the jungle at Corbet. The tables were huge and extremely comfortable. The buffet was c. Rs.500 per person which at the end of the meal we thought was value for money.
The starters were amazing constituting veg & non-veg, perfectly cooked meat & fish. For the first time the veg starters were equally fantastic. What I liked is the way in which the starters were served, two non-veg & two veg alternatively served helps you savor the tastes better is something I learned. The chicken tandoori kebab was good but the star was the spicy skewered chicken – a perfect combination of well spiced chicken. The fish tikka was equally good and so was the mutton seekh kebab. I must say that for people who like extremely spicy food, it could be a little of a disappointment. However, the staff is really nice. If we request them to customise it for us, they could add a little bit of spice alternatively there are always chutneys provided to spice your food up. Another good thing about it was the jaljeera, being regularly served, it really helped me in digesting all that food.
Now coming to the main course, Veg food was average. However, the Non-veg platter was simply awesome. The crab & prawns were made in malwani style but were a little bit on the less spicy side, a good thing for me though. The mutton rogan ghost was the best I ever had, well cooked tender meat savoured in the appropriate spices..wallah! The chicken briyani & chicken handi were good as well. Further where would you find fresh made fulkas & pastas except for at weddings? But all this was there at this place. The cherry on the cake were the sweet dishes. As they say that –no matter how crowded the bus is, there is always place for the conductor – despite all that food in my tummy, I couldn’t hold myself from having the sweet dishes. We loathed on jalebi, kulfi, custard (awesome), butterscotch ice-cream, fruit cream mousse and chocolate cake….yummilicious!
One word of caution though, a bottle of water costs Rs. 90 here. So please ask for regular water or if you go with your family, you will end up paying 500 bucks only for water.
To sum it up. I would say, very nice place to take your family or colleagues out for a small party. It will give you an out of city value for money experience, fantastic cuisine and very good hospitality all without being harsh on your pocket.

horrible place - plz don visit even if its free

The only decent thing about this place is the ambience n hence u hope tat d food turns out to b decent. But that definitely doesnt happen to you. I could go on wit a list of things that go visibly wrong. To name a few - The food is really bad, it tastes horrible for the the way its priced, the menu doesnt have too much to offer, they really need to wrk on it. The portions are bad too. The waiters are slow n sloppy and serve wrong things to you & try to convince u tat its d one u ordered!! Also the sounds of different animals accompanying you is not very pleasing. Visit this place if you really wana experience the real LIFE IN FOREST like a nomad - i.e cold & tastless food without options. This might just give you a reason to enjoy it. Lastly, even if you wish to forget everything, the after effects of the food will jus not allow it!!

its a request - Save urself frm trouble & don go to this place even if it was for free.

p.s - M givin one star only cos i had to do it n its only for the ambience

Waste of time and money - An evening wasted

One cant believe that this is a restaurant from Anjan Chatterji's stable. The place marked for Buffet is an open balcony covered by plastic sheets and bamboos - obviously No AC. The music is too loud, place too dark and the waiters half asleep with absolutely disinterested looks on their face.
For the starters, except for the prawns, everything was bland and tasteless. The second round was served ABSOLUTELY COLD. Fried fish came soaked in oil - possibly refried in cold oil. For the Main Course, Chicken Biryani had run out. Requested for a refill and they took 15 minutes (after repeated requests). By that time we had finished eating - One waiter suggested that we could take vegetable biryani instead. We would have been much happier if he had suggested that we eat some where else. That would have been the best suggestion of the evening
The Manager could only repeatedly apologise.

Any time favourite

Always the first choice for a get together...Veg food...esp. the Dal Makhni is lip smacking. Based on jungle theme its a great place to go, little on the expensive side though but gives a fine dining experience.

Robust Indian fare

We ate in a jungle in Malad close to inorbit, sat next to a wolf, and a giraffe looked at us from the other side. The tree over us had a couple of birds staring at us. And all through it we had some loud bhangra music playing.

I'm not lying. The team behind Mainland China, Sweet Bengal, etc have come up with this novel concept of a Faux jungle in a building on the top floor. Plastic trees, fake animals and birds, etc. Nice idea, but tone the bhangra down a bit. On to the review then!! We ate like pigs, really. I was in the mood for eating the bird (Thats what I call chicken!) and so we started with a bird starter. Tangdi kebabs. Robust spice and tender meat. Bhindi fry - Just right, crispy and spicy. The service was fantastic. I havent had such attentive service in a long time. Maybe the pint of beer I had helped a bit.... but my partner assured me that it was actually good :).

The main course was again the bird - it was something they suggested, so I dont know the name - but it was scrumptious. Spiced perfectly, and really, really succulent. For me, the naans won it. Puffy, soft, and fresh. I love a good naan - to me it shows that the people pay attention to the small things. We also ordered a biryani - and I couldnt eat a single morsel, but my partner told me it was v. good. Kids love the jungle theme, so there are quite a few - and the place is noisy enough without the loud bhangra.

Everything else is a winner! Go there, and eat, eat, eat!!!

Duh...

Machaan fails basically and terribly at one thing - Food !

Its quite expensive considering so many other places with better food and equal ambiance...but the food is just not worth it !

Even if some is treating me, I had rather go to some other place with better food.

What doesn't help is the staff who are so trained so below average.

The only reason this place runs still, is because its located in a building packed with corporate houses and they have a cheap buffet(not delicious necessarily!). When I went almost all the crowd where of office people and everyone went for their buffet.

Specialty Group who is the owner of Machaan and its so very good and famous Mainland China, needs to take control of this and do some radical changes or else they will crash and bad.

Machaan is like a car going downhill with no brakes.

Trust me, avoid this place completely !

P.S. - I gave one star just for the ambiance(jungle theme) which is nice.

Good but way to go

Date Visited – Jan 23rd ‘ 2010

I’ll start with the décor. The restaurant is designed on the concept of a jungle which is interesting. For the atmosphere, some jungle sounds are also thrown in. All this is subtle and not over imposing, which is a good feature.

We chose the Buffet over the a-la-carte. The soup, a thick broth of chicken was good. Of the starters the Paneer tikka was extremely good. Extremely soft, very fresh and extremely well marinated. I would’nt say the same about the corn cheese kebab. Not bad but nothing extra-ordinary. Over to the non-veg starters. Both the Chicken Tikka and Mutton Seekh Kebabs very good and soft, but nowhere near the best in town. The chicken Tikka was heavy on Ajwain while the Seekh Kebab was’nt so juicy as it ought to be. I still maintain that the best mutton seekh kebabs in Mumbai, which can match up to what you’ll get at any joint in the north are :- Peshawari ( Grand Maratha Sheraton), Sarvi , Bade Miyan and the small joint ( Jai Jawan ) in the middle of the market at linking road at Bandra. Please advise of other places if aware.

Coming to the main course, I had Lal Maans, a traditional rajasthani cuisine. It was red no doubt and soft as well but again suffered from not being Juicy. I guess the most basic requirement of any meat cuisine is the quality of the meat. If it is not from fresh and tender lamb, no amount of culinary expertise can make up for the flaw. The chicken Biryani was excellent , rice of extra-ordinary taste. One high point of the place is that it provides homely phulkas, incase one wishes to avoid the naans and the tandooris.

A revelation to me was a simple hari moong kid al ( I do not remember ever being open to have it at home). Its USP lied in the simplicity and freshness of the lentil.

From the desserts, I am told that the kheer was good. The gajar ka halwa again lost as I coul’nt resist the comparison with what I have had all my life in the north.

All in all the place is good and definitely a visit. As for the small negatives, I think the chefs are already aware and must be doing something about.

Last, but not the least, the management should do something about the table and chair, which are a mismatch. Either the chair size be reduced or the table increase. I don’t know how otherwise 2 people can sit comfortably side by side !

Bad & Slow Service!!

We went to Machaan last night at 10PM. Inspite of calling and informing them that we are 10 of us coming to the restaurant in half an hour, no place was reserved for us. By the time we could get our tables, it was almost 11PM and we were waiting for an hour.

As soon as you enter this jungle theme restaurant, you need to decide if you want to go for buffet or ala carte. We chose the buffet and ordered our drinks. The Service is so slow and pathetic, that we had to remind them we were waiting for the drinks. Even if you ask for a glass of water it used to take hours for it to be served. There were no tissue papers or napkins on the table too and we were left wondering as to how these guys function.

Now for the food!! The starters were ok, but were not warm enough!! There was no air-conditioning in the buffet section, and fans were kept at every table to provide some relief from heat. The fish starters were good and better than chicken.

The main course is a spread kept on one side of the section. By the time we could have the main course, the food was over!!! We were only left with all the leftovers!! I hardly managed to get 4 spoons of rice and some dal!! It was very surprising of the management of not informing us to start having food as they are closing at 11.45 itself!! Very weird of them!!

The only thing I liked was the desert which had chocklate mouse, ice-creams and sweets. As they were also left overs, we just managed a scoop of it.

Now for the best part, the bill for 10 of us and 2kids came to a whopping Rs.9,500. We were surprised to see VAT of 25% being charged on liquor. The cost of beer was on an expensive side considering they only served "pint" beer. Inspite of our arguing at 12.45am, we got no explanation for the VAT charged at such rates!!

We were the last to leave the restaurant and have decided never ever to visit this place again!! Overall, an absolute pathetic service and bad management!! I am only giving them 1 star and would never ever visit this place!!

Not Satisfactory Service

I had been to this special so called Jungle Themed Restaurant with my colleagues for the 1st time & really loved the Ambiance and mostly the decor. But as the Reviews of my colleagues, it wasnt all what we really expected. The "Reunion" turned to "Return Home" as the food did not show up at our table even after an hour. Dont even feel like writing much as u can just see most of the "Un satisfied" reviews. Nothing much said people. Bon Appetite.... make sure u dont have an Animal appetite though.... wink*.

Dishearting place

I proposed this place for a re-union party to my ex-collegues and it turned out to be a Disaster.

I have been to Machaan earlier but now the place sucks.

The food ain't great for the money we pay.....The service was worst than a Udipi Restrauant.Even these guys have some etiqutte but Machaan's service was horrible.

We had to leave the place without having dinner coz it was past mid-night and the food was not servered.

The order was place well in advance n the food was servered almost after 1hr and 20 mins.............

I am so upset with this place that i will never recommend it to anyone ever again.

Pathetic Place...No Rating

I had been to this place called Machaan in Malad last evening with my ex.collegues re-union party. Never thought it will turn out to be a worst experience of our life.

The worst place to go, bad food, a total wastage of money and time..
Food - Average to poor.
Menu spread - very poor.
Service - Most Most Pathetic.

and reason to above all, the service was so pathetic, that between one course of meal to another, we had to wait for 1hr and 15 minutes.
Every time we had to remind him(Dinesh) to clear the plates and replace by new plates and serve the main course we were told to wait for 5minutes which went on n on...

We had order Appetiser "Bhunahua Aloo" - 7pcs - Rs.295/- which they have categorised into large portion, i'm wondering what will be the Regular portion - 3Pcs....

at the end we had to leave the place without dinner and yet shamless manager is asking us to wait for some more time...

Guys go to machaan only if you want to spoil your mood, time and money.

Machaan either shut it down or get some better people from service industry who understands the true value of "time" and "customer"

pathetic buffet

This one used to be amongst my favs but I was shocked to see their service during my last visit. I have always preferred dining here and for the same reason, I decided to choose Machaan for my Bday dinner.

The A la carte is no doubt good but the buffet was equally pathetic. It all started with the table seating, since we were some odd 20 of us, i requested the staff to change the seating but when we changed our minds, their reaction was RUDE! I mean arent you suppose to see the guests choice!
They offered to serve the starters which was a good thing, but everything was plain cold! Being the host, when I asked them to serve warm food, they plainly said its due to the fan! WTF! and lastly even they head could not differentiate the non veg group from veg (which I had divided for their comfort) and kept serving non veg to everyone!
The main course was veryy okayy...
The desserts included Malpuas - they USED to be my fav but not after eating here.
I seriously regretted my decision to spend my Bday here....
Along with dissapointment of 19 others, all I could do is be sorry for my friends!

Welcome To The Jungle

Loaded with plants all around, Machaan will take you all the way down to the wild. Dine in a unique atmosphere of the jungle. With yummy food and sparking wines. Feel like somewhere in the Amazons. A little hard on the wallets though but definitely gets a thumbs up when it comes to presentation, food and style. Big eaters can hop onto the buffet which i think is quite reasonable.

Good - but expensive

I had heard a lot about this place - the decor being different, the food being good and so on. Decided to drop in and have a look.

First off, the decor really is different. and if you have a 5-6 year old kid with you, it is a blessing. The kid will be completely occupied with roaming around and you can concentrate on the food :-).

The food itself is good. Taste and portions. The sarson ka saag is delicious - no arguments there. You can choose between the buffet or going a la carte. If you do choose to go a la carte, then you better have all the time in the world. The service is SLOW. Maybe not too many people order a la carte.

However good the food is, the price does not justify it. Way too expensive. Cannot justify more than a 3 star.

Mouth watering veg food

MUST GO PLACE. . 6 out of 5 from me. FULLL MARKS.
(for veg food, i am a vegetarian so no idea about non-veg food)

Many mixed reviews. I will share my experience step by step.
It was my first time here and was observing almost everything there.

When i reached there, it was very crowded, and i never expected that anyone there could really entertain me so nicely. I could get a sit in no more than 5 min.
I was impressed with their promptness and politeness at this point itself.
And later also i had the same impression and service was just great.

I ordered a soup and starters. Soup was THE GREAT. I never had tomato soup like this ever before. Just Amazing.
Starter was Bhunnawa Aloo. And this was Mouth Watering. Unbelievably delicious.

Ordered main course and that too was the delicious. I was impressed by their services and food quality and huge quantity and last but not least the taste. Just Amazing very very very delicious.

Cost wise yes, it is costly but it is worth. The ambience is just great to enjoy food and relax. You will not get such a nice ambience anywhere else. Huge tables and lot of space in between and jungle theme and .....

just check it out once yourself, you wil not regret for sure.

Fantastic Ambiance, Good Food !

Read a lot of mixed reviews right here, so went there with mixed doses of anticipation. I had gone for lunch on a weekday.

First impressions on entering the place itself, i was sure this place wont let me down and thankfully it did not !

The place is done up beautifully, the jungle theme works very very nicely with even some ambient sounds of the jungle to be heard.

Ala-carte prices are quite on the steep side comparatively. Saw their buffet menu and at 275 + tax, you need not think twice. Just go for it !!!

Soups and starters were served on the table and so were breads.

Soup Tomato Shorba - very good, didnt have such a soup in a long long time.

Starters Paneer Tikka, Rajma Tikki - paneer was by far the best i had so far, extremely soft and just melted in the mouth. Rajma Tikki was ok as i dont like rajma as it is.

Buffet spread qith quite lavish with 4 main course dishes, rice and subz biryani.

Breads Butter Naan, Roti - this is where they need to improvise, naan was quite thick and seemed like half cook, roti was ok too.

Soft drink/freshlime was complimentary too.

Desserts - Chocolate Mousse, Pastry, Ice Cream(Vanilla and Strawberry), Malpua and Seviya. My fav is undoubtedly the Chocolate Mousse. Its heaven !

Overall tab for 2 came to 620 rs all inclusive.

For a nice variety of options in a buffet its a steal for sure !

Just for info - they have started something similar to BBQ Nation's grill concept here too but only for Dinner and outside the AC section.

Check it out, Machaan wont disappoint you !

Sorry to say but I disagree with the previous reviews only because I have been to Machaan twice and many other similarly placed restaurants and I would say that they have been quite consistent in food and service as compared to many many restaurants.

I agree that the jungle theme can get a bit overwhelming but I feel that the overall essence is lively and fun, and it definitely takes you to a different place.

Nyway, I have ordered the kurkuri bhindi, chapli kebabs, some dal, mixed vegetable type...aint sure...but something on these lines...

Anyway, the Kurkuri bhindi is gr8, it definitely takes vegetarian cooking a notch above through its unique presentation and taste. The vegetarian dishes are standard, well prepared, the chef listens to you when you say less spicy and no garlic, and ends up doing a good job with the food.

The Chapli kebab was done extremely well, I've had better around the world, but this was the first good one in Bombay; it was tender and succulent, and not hard or chewy. This is how lamb is really cooked; marinated well and slow cooked.

The service staff were relatively attentive and I am extremely satisfied with my past experience.

Trust me on this as I love trashing places that have poor food and service, u can get a good look at my reviews if you need any justification.

Worst and a nightmare

The worst place to go, bad food, a total wastage of money and time. Though service is prompt. very expensive. The worst part is they charge you about 10% service charge along with govt. service taxes, etc., which you have to pay compulsury to pay and they charge it for their staff welfare is what they say, so next time if you and your family are there at this restaurant meke sure they don't extort you.

Waste of Money !!!

Hi frnds,

It is a much hyped restaurant. The only gr8 thing abt the restaurant is the ambiance, rest all sucks. The food is one of the worst you could ever find. Absolutely tasteless.

Its better to visit National Park along with some home made food, rather than spending so much at Machaan.

Guys please avoid it.

Pathetic service + Average food

I was under the impression that my experience was a one-off case due to the Diwali rush. But after reading vishalsurana's review (http://mumbai.burrp.com/establishment/review/36n_5tz) I stand corrected.

We got the table promptly, but it wasn't until 10 mins + 2 reminders that we were offered the menu cards. Another 5 mins + reminder to serve us water.

The choice of dishes was nothing great. Fairly regular fair you'd expect to see at a run-of-the-mill Indian/Mughlai restaurant.
The food taste was average. Slightly below average, I'd say, for the price I was paying.

We ordered a cointreau on crushed ice and were served liquor with a big blob of ice floating in it. We had to literally explain was CRUSHED ice meant to the waiter, the manager, and the bartender!

The only thing good is the ambiance -- which literally bowls you over. That is the only thing that can probably explain such a high rating for Machaan.

Pathetic

This Thursday, we decided to have a small party (25 of us) on a Birthday ocassion and chose Machaan to be the venue. At the end of my dinnerparty i was fuming at myself why did i choose this venue in the first place.

Ambeience - Wow...
Food - Average to poor.
Menu spread - very poor.
Service - Pathetic.

In fact the service was so pathetic, that between one course of meal to another, we had to wait for at least 20-25 minutes.Every time we had to remind him to clear the plates and replace by new plates, which will take its own sweet time. I (as organiser of the party) had to request to serve water to 3-4 diffrent waiters and managers at least 5-6 times after which (20-25 mins) i was served water.

Food served was never hot. they served large quantities to the first person only to discover nothing left for last few in the party.

we lost our cool in the midway of party, only to be assured that we will be serviced well fro hereon. But few minutes later, the same story continued.

We all finished our meal together, but the finger bowl served to the first person and the last person had a gap of almost 20 mins.It seems they were short of bowls, so they had to rewash the earlier ones and serve it back to the last one. aweful...

Every one in the party was fuming, and what was supposed t be a great evening together, turned out to be a nightmare. After all left, i had a strong feedback to give to the manager there, but i was very sure i was puttng it all to deaf ears.

Guys go to machaan only if you want to spoil you time and money.

AVERAGE INDIAN FOOD

I visited Machan on saturday evening. The restaurant was jam packed and many people waiting for a table. I had a booking and was taken to my table promptly. Decor and concept is good but the place was loud with the typical Indian family scene. Definitely not the kind of atmosphere if you want to take out your girlfriend on the first date. We ordered some fish and chicken starters. They were pretty fresh and good. However the main course of chickek dal and rotis was a total let down. The roomali rotis were like papad and the chicken kurchan seemed like made out of leftovers. I complained to the steward and told him that I was going to write a review on his restaurant. That had a effect as the restaurant manager came to our table and brought complimentary chicken curry. The staff was extra courteous to us after that. However the bottom line is, mediocre food/expensive and over rated

not worth it

had taken the family last night to machaan for dinner after reading lots of positive reviews on burrp but i have to admit that the food was not up to the mark.
we went for the buffet in which you get 12 starters, 2 soups, 2 biryanis, 5 main course dishes, rotis& naans and desserts like malpua, cake and fresh fruits.
the staters were very monotonous with most of them having a similar masala.the biryani was ok. but the main course as well as the desserts were a let down. to top it all the next day i had an upset stomach. all in all a forgetable experience.

VFM Buffet

The buffet at Machaan is total VFM. Here's why:

Ambience: Scores a good 4.5/5 especially for kids
Food quality: Kebabs and biryani alone are worth the price. In fact, we hardly eat anything else.
Service: Great. Deserves a 4.5/5

Very few buffets have good starters served fresh and hot. I've been to the Machaan buffet 4 times and the biryani and kebabs have been great always.

One sore point was that the prawn curry was quite average with the prawns being rubbery and with that 'frozen' seafood smell. Clearly avoidable.

Jungle mein mangal

Went to Machaan yesterday for lunch. They've taken up an entire floor of a building and converted it into a restaurant. The restaurant has a jungle theme. My kid had a great time spotting all the almost life-sized stuffed animals they had planted all over the place. They even have a few faux banyan trees to go with the theme.

Going with the recommendations of fellow burrpers, we went in for the Aam Panna Jaljeera. Boy, what a treat it was. It was a bit spiced up, but very flavourful.

We went for the the lunch buffet. The appetizers were served to us on the table itself. The pani puri had turned soggy and was mediocre, but the samosa chaat was excellent.

While the buffet didn't have an lavish variety of items, it was good enough for lunch. The dessert variety was good - ice-cream, mal-pooda, kheer, brownie cake, chocolate mousse and fresh fruit.

I was impressed by the waiter (can't recall the name, but the lastname was Ganguly).

Overall a very positive experience. Highly recommended. Safe to go there with friends and family.

Great Indian Cuisine

We've tried this place twice, and come back more than satisfied both times.

Their buttery Dal Makhani and Zafrani Biryani with it's delicately saffron flavoured basmati is finger-lickin' good. Even if you don't eat anything else except these two dishes, it will have been absolutely worth the visit.

The decor is pleasant too, with soft lighting, faux trees and animals around, which tries to recreate a jungle ambience.

Prices are steep, but it's a nice place for a special celebration.

They also have a buffet on their open-air terrace, which looks very good, but we haven't tried it as yet.

Outstanding Food

Went there for dinner, was the second time, food is outstanding, we ordered lamb seekh kebabs and chicken tikka, quality was excellent and great flavour, juicy kebabs. Even the dessert was amazing - jungle me mangal was a combination of gulab jamun, rabdi and rasgullas !!!

Ambience is nice, the jungle theme looks funny !!!!!! Service was a bit slow due to the busy weekends, there is a 45 minute wait time, but u can always call and reserve a table !!! Would love to go there again, good value for money.

Mother of all the Restaurants- Machan

For all the Souls who have heavy wallet and love Peshwari food - Machan is a must visit.

This restaurant is part of "Mainland China" restaurants. The restaurant has kept its High Standard of Service & Quality.

The theme of the restaurant is that of Jungle and as the name says you get a feeling of sitting on a Machan.

The service staff is extremely courteous and prompt.

Drinks: Alcoholic drinks are very expensive and should be avoided if possible- place not for guzzlers ....

Try the Aam Ka Jaljeera- The taste of this drink is very unique and refreshing, quite different from the Jaljeera drink available is other restaurants.

For all the carnivorous tribe you must eat the lip smacking Kebabs, Hunter Chicken and not to forget the Jafrani Biryani....the taste is too good !

The rates are on the higher side but worth the money you pay, you get ample time to sit, talk and eat at your leisure

All in all after Bukhara ( of ITC sheraton) , the best place in Mumbai I have eaten Peshwari food is Machan!

Great ambience and food

I had read the wonderful reviews of this restaurant in the newspapers and on Burrp and decided to try out the food. There was a lot of waiting, but did not mind it, as the waiting lounge was excellent where we could sit and order starters and drinks. Plus there was a Rajasthani muppet show on for children. The restaurant ambience was different with the jungle feel and the food was well prepared and piping hot. I shall definitely visit again!

Management shoud think of starting dabba service

The food and ambience of the place is fantastic. However, staff curtsey and service is far below the restaurtants in the same price range

During both my visits, the service was bad to the extent that wrong orders were served on the table and main course was served before the starters.

The best restaurant in Malad, yet

I read a hoarding about this place on my way home and decided to give this place a shot. I am so glad I did.
This theme restuarant has managed to create a faux jungle, complete with giant giraffes, elephants, alligators, tortoises, a waterfall and a huge banyan tree with its branches stretching all over the huge place. And all of this on the 8th floor of a shi-shi residential cum commercial building in Malad.
The service is very good with the waiters going out of their way to make you comfortable. I must mention the one serving me, Ayuan Ganguly, who not only recommended what I should have but sportingly went along with the childish banter of the two kids who were accompanying me and even gave them a nice little tour of the entire place, acquainting them with the animals there.
The interiors are a little dimmed, but it goes with the jungle theme, complete with the log seats.
The menu is not very lengthy, but the fare is good.
The murg tikka kandhari is nothing like the Afghans make. It fact it is a bit sweet, but with a tangy undertaste that complements the sweetness. The ajwani fish tikka did not have any ajwain on it, but was fresh and good nonetheless.
I loved the names of the items on the menu. I had a Chicken Hunter, which is a bit sweet and made in coriander base. The Gosht Lazeez was delicious as was the lachedar paratha which was not rubbery like I have had in most places.
The quantities are huge. So three people can have one gravy item nicely.
