Amazing service and delicious food.
Visited Mainland China last night with my family for a birthday dinner. I must say that the ambiance of the place is lovely and the food, delicious.
the service is outstanding!
Of course, all of this does come at a price and the taxes themselves come to a lot! The staff at Mainland Chine though, go out of their way to help :) ..they came with a glass of juice for the little one at the table and got him a special little seat, got us complimentary cake AND a dessert ( which is delicious by the way, crispy chocolate rolls and ice cream, try it) and helped us choose everything we ordered.
Special mention to their 'Bekti' dish, a fish main course dish that we ordered as a starter and thoroughly enjoyed. Their Chicken taipei - a red slightly lemony medium spicey chicken starter was also good, as was the Lamb Mahalak gravy. Their fruit punch is a safe yummy bet and I trued the allure mocktail which was a cinnamony apple - apricot creamy drink, good if you're into cinnamon.
We were served Jasmine tea at the end of our main course and all in all had a fabulous experience there. Damages for 5 people and 2 kids came to around 6k. I strongly recommend this restaurant for a special night out.
total chinese bliss
It was our diwali lunch so we all decided to pig out and Mainland China was the place . the booking was done and the hostess took us to our table . The soup and starters came fast and we relished every bit of the tasty Chinese dishes , Hunger conveniently making me forget all the names and just concentrating on the delicious flavours .
Main course too had many dishes and there was dimsum and stir fry counters too. I saved my stomach a special treat to savour the sweet dishes and wasnt disappointed
Over all I enjoyed good food and company . Thank you Mianland China
The service of this restaurant is top class, the preparation and food quantity good too. Love their Sunday lunch buffet spread and recommend it highly. Must try dishes: veg siu mai, crackling spinach, vegetables in mahlak sauce, corn and potato tsing hoi style, pot rice. Great place to celebrate an occasion or just to hang out with family and friends.
Good food, Good Variety & Good times!!
Mainland China is always known for its variety and obviously great Chinese cuisine. I have visited almost all the Mainland China outlets across Sakinaka, Andheri West, Bandra, Powai, etc. Food is very good and whether it is a starter or main course it is consistent in its taste and general look & feel.
The Bandra West outlet has a fairly decent ambiance and good food - see my review on the Andheri West outlet as well.
Also, their desserts are fab - especially the honey soaked noodles with Vanilla.. I just cant have enough of it!! :-)
Only one thing I feel works against them is the price..they are a touch expensive , On weekends this place is the busiest!! and nosiest.. i sat in the middle once and have music been played across the tables & children running around in my ears!! However had a great time with friends and nice food as I said above!!
Went for dinner on a weekday. Good Food, the desserts were to die for. The ambiance is terrific. To add to it, the chopsticks make the place more authentic. No doubt the place is expensive, but its worth for the moved loved chinese place in the city. Overall, nice place to hangout.
Good food but expensive
Every time my friends want to eat chinese they always have to drag me to Mainland China. I like the linking road restaurant, because of ease of access. It is really spacious and i love the ambience. You can have your quiet dinner with your partner without people disturbing you. If you have your speciality card you get a discount as well. On birthdays you get a free brownie with vanilla on top so thats cool. Food is really good, i looovee the lotus leaf rice here. Do try the desserts
Business Lunches Simplified
One of the most amazing places for a business lunch... Great food and great services, I personally am in love with the prawns and all crisp sauces of the place. And I now am of an opinion that if I need some client that feel good thought. Mainland is the place..Speciality Restaurants I finally appreciate you
Food quality not maintained like before
I was a regular at Mainland china but off late don't really enjoy eating there. Service is fine but d preparation of the dishes is not up to the mark. Also d place is very noisy whc is a big minus point. The last time I visited I was shocked to spot a mouse running all over the place... That very moment I decided never to go back to that place again!
best buffet place
i was brought to this place by a long lost friend!
must admit the service and the food is excellent.... its slightly expensive but the food will never disappoint you... the variety and butter garlic preparation of crabs is the best.... ofcourse the momos and the starters are amazing as well.. i have had some real good moments at this place! definitely one of my favorites!
I went there with my wife on Valentines Day 2013.
1. The management offered red roses to all the ladies seated at the tables. Except to my wife.
2. I asked for jasmine tea. But after the first cup, was never offered a refill.
3. We changed to a better table midway through our meal. The waiter did not bother to replace the dirty coasters from the previous diners. The waiter failed to provide table napkins too!
Overall, a disappointment. Food was nothing special either. Spoilt our evening. Not going again.

Insect in my food
I had come with family for dinner and had ordered some rice dish which had an insect in it. The manager also agreed to it. We had to leave our dinner right there and would never suggest any one to this restaurant . A horrible experience coming from a reputed restaurant like MAINLAND CHINA
Dine like the Emperor of China
I had gone to their outlet in Bandra last week with my family & we were offerd the Emperor's menu. The Emperor's menu was a steal considering the price they were offering it in. Imagine a 4 course all you can eat non vegetarian dinner meal for Rs. 678 only & that is including the taxes. I was skeptical about the quality of the food as I was thinkìng that the quality must be different than their ala cart menu but surprise surprise it was the very same quality.
There was a choice of soup 3 non vegetarian starters, 3 non vegetarian main course with rice & noodles also 2 desserts with ice cream. All this with the same warm & prompt service. Understandably there is a little time gap between the courses as so much of food needs to be prepared but people don't come to Mainland China for a eating in a hurry so it is okay.
The best has become more better is all I can say. Will back soon to feel like a Chinese Emperor
Beautifully done interiors and the food is nice.
This is one place you can visit with your dear one, family for a meeting and still have the best of time. The food is authentic chinese, not the best of chinese I have had but almost neck to neck. The Momos are great and a must mention, service is nice.
Food takes time to arrive though :(
But its totally worth the wait.
Looking out for some great food menus please be here!
They will do it with all there effort and it will be visible and palatable.
Its been a year since I last went to Mainland China at Linking Road and I must sadly say that nothing has changed since 2011. Its unfortunate that the owners/promoters of Mainland China havent closed down this chain at Linking Road or completely replaced the chefs. There is a huge and I mean massive difference between the Mainland China at Lokhandwala/andheri and the Linking Road one. The quality and promptness of service is very good and in fact the managers take good care of your needs but at the end of the day, you dont go to a theatre to enjoy the AC and cushioned seats. Sadly the food is not upto mark as would be in other Mainland China restaurants. There is an excessive corn flour coating in every item. The starters constitute half of the main course and dont get me started on the desserts. The desserts are simply terrible. The tarts are hard and seem stale and rest of the cream infested desserts can sadly be found in any road side tea stall in terms of quality. In fact the food and serving area looks straight out of a outdoor wedding setup.
Basically they really need to improve the quality of their food as anyone who has never been to a mainland china and makes this branch their first visit is going to definitely think that critics who love mainland china just have terrible taste in chinese food. Mainland China is highly rated for their chinese food and in my opinion as a big fan and frequent customer, I seriously think its about time that the Mainland China owners make things right as its seriously giving them a bad name especially given the fact that the branch is located in quite the central area for many diners/customers. IN my opinion, the one at Andheri/lokhandwala is fantastic and one should visit there to enjoy the actual Mainland china experience as started in calcutta.

Excellent Service / Good Food
The food overall is good. Id give the food a 4/5- Iv had items both from the menu and the buffet. The Buffet is good, though the desserts which are a part of the buffet are terrible.
The service is excellent- the staff leave no stone unturned with their warm hospitality. if you want to entertain business clients, this is a great place to go to. For the price- the ambience & food are great !
Deteriorating in Quality
Had been many times to this place.. However in the past few occasions the place has been getting bad..
We had been yesterday for my parents anniversary to the Bandra Outlet.. There were flies roaming around.. When we complaint about the same, the staff moved us to another table rather than doing anything abt it. That wasnt enough, later when we ordered the starters and soup, there was an small insect which fell on the plate. Probably from the above lights..
We asked the waiter, and thy just changed the plate.. Quite a bad experience from such a well known plc..
The portions of nonveg starters has also reduced. The only good part the staff did was got a small strawberry cake for my parents anniversary.
Overall not a very good experience from the Owners of Oh calcultta which is way apart!!

Poor buffet experience at Mainland China Bandra
Had a completely unsatisfying buffet experience at Mainland China's Bandra outpost. Priced at Rs.790 including taxes I opted for the veg stuff that included very average dim-sums, crispy potatoes and wishy washy stir fry.
Main course gravies were watery and not appetizing at all. The manager had to be reminded to replenish the main course dishes several times, there were people standing and eating in the buffet section like a wedding!
Dessert was almost wiped out and not replenished like the other dishes. For the money spent there are other better lunch options in the locality.

My views have been stated in my review and I do not have anything further to add. To improve your service you need to visit this outlet on a weekend afternoon and study what is going wrong with the operations & quality of food.
One of the best places to eat chinese food ...good place with good ambiance and polite staff.

Great Chinese Buffet, Great Ambience, Great Staff
Love going back to this place over and over again...the closest that anybody gets to REAL CHINESE FOOD (and not the 'Indian Chinese' that we are all familiar with!) is here...a lovely assortment of starters for the nonvegetarian, great desserts...only a word of caution for the vegetarians- be prepared to have lesser than expected dishes on your plate because this place is inclined towards the non-veggies :)

No longer the same
Mainland China was always one of the top choice for Chinese Food. However, in last few months there seems to have been a drop in their quality. The worst was during my last visit when I ordered Veg Dumplings for my friend who is a strict vegetarian but they got the Chicken Dumplings which she realised after biting into a piece.
The main course was served cold and the rice came 20 minutes later. On top of that non of the food was tasty like it used to be. I did not even stay to find out what desert was.

I liked the ambiance here. Been twice at Bandra and tried buffet as well as meal, you would definitely like it. Nice service with good music. Plenty to choose from, for Non-vegetarian's in buffet compared to veggie's. But you can always go for variety in your meal menu.
Those who don't like Chinese food should be here once, it will at least create interest in their minds!
I would admit at the onset that I do not like Chinese food much. So when it was decided to visit Mainland China for a business lunch I wasnt exactly thrilled with the prospect.
We had table reservations and reached the place in time and while we were parking they even called to check if we would be making it time for our reservation a bit unnecessary considering it was a weekday afternoon and quite a few tables were empty.
The place has been elegantly done with nice comfortable wooden chairs. We opted for the buffet which included starters served at the table and an elaborate spread of main course and desserts. The dumplings were really good, gently flavored and steamed to perfection. Chili vegetables and potatoes in brown sauce were decent. The wantons, though, disappointed us.
The main course was an elaborate spread but what we liked the most was the olive and egg fried rice. They also had a live stir fry counter. The dessert spread was a tad disappointing but the honey noodles were good.
One of us does not eat onions/garlic and the servers were thoughtful enough to get food sans onion/garlic made for him even without us requesting them. This was very thoughtful. Thumbs up to that. Throughout the time we were there, the staff was extremely courteous and ready to help.
A very good fine dining experience recommended for repeat visits.
Heard a lot of the place. Very spicy food which spoiled the taste. They won't allow u in after 11:45 which I thought was rare.
Hot n sour soup: too spicy
Mix veg fred rice & some day special main course which wasn't nice as well. The staff said they will replace the food. But we had had enough.
The ambience looks old & shouting renovation.
Two stars just for our polite waiter

Chinese food, Salary-Day style
After a lot of hunting for a new place to go on a date, she was very enthusiastic about taking me to Mainland China. Personally, I prefer the Indian-style Chinese food over authentic Chinese any day. I had never been to Mainland China, but was a regular to the 5 Spice outlets in Mumbai. Their menu is huge and have a very consistent taste almost all the time. This time it decided to go to Mainland China and I really was skeptical of how the food will turn out. Ofcourse, with the praises that I've heard of the food at this place, I kept telling myself it will all turn out good (if not OK). So on a very relaxed Sunday night, I drove down to Bandra and were all set.
You take the lift from the gate next to Shopper's Stop entry to the 6th floor and you will be welcomed very kindly with a smile by a bunch of restaurant escorts who will check if you have a reservation. You will be asked to take a seat in the waiting area. If you not so lucky, I've heard people waiting here for over 40 minutes to get a table. You enter the restaurant area and there are 3 Chinese Terracota warrior statues followed by a huge dining area. The tables are nicely spaced out and there is a constant chatter going around. You will see a lot of captains, waiters and the rest running around trying to attend to the tables. More on that in the next section. There seemed to be an open bar of sorts to your right the moment you enter the dining area. The place is well lit and properly air conditioned.
This place welcomes you with a cup of Jasmine Tea, which was really not to my taste and they keep checking if you would like a refill. I'm assuming that die-hard Chinese food fans will probably drop in for round 2 here. A captain took about 20 minutes to come to my table to take my order and it took me 2 attempts to catch hold of him earlier. Appetizer came in about half an hour after placing the order and the main course about 45 minutes later too. There was 1 captain who took my order for soup and appetizer, another to get the main course and a third to tell me that the main course I ordered will not go very well. At the end, the (first) captain was really surprised at the feedback that my girlfriend gave at the end of the meal. I am really not sure why he was surprised at the end too!
Was good for sure. The Chicken Lemon and Coriander soup was truly EPIC in every sense and was most definitely the best soup I've ever had. Appetizers followed in the form of Chicken Dumplings. I've never had dumplings and always had momos and I really cannot figure out the difference. The dumplings were mushy (not sure if they are supposed to be that way) and had a pretty dry filling of chicken in it. Pair it up with their Sichuan sauce (I'm refraining from using the work Indianized name Schezwan) and you are in for a treat. Dinner was Chicken Fragrant Rice and Chicken in hot Garlic Sauce. The rice was pretty much boiled rice with chunks of boiled thickly shredded chicken. Not worth the money, no ways. The gravy was better. Huge chunks of chicken in red sauce and it was thankfully not flavored too strongly. A little bit of veggies in it and it was eatable. Again, not worth the money.
1800 bucks for a meal for 2!? How do you justify THAT? They had put a Service Charge, taxed it with VAT, put a 10% service tax, added educational cess and one more tax! I mean, are you kidding me? You are taxing on TOP of the tax? The soup was about 250 bucks (worth it), dumplings 350 bucks (not worth), Rice + Gravy definitely not worth the money spent.
If you want authentic Chinese food, look nowhere else. If you want to have authentic Chinese food while paying sensibly for it, go to 5-Spice. The experience is too costly for a college goer or a person who is earning a decent living. They do not even have a valet and you can expect to pay 50 bucks just to park in the Shoppers Stop parking area. Now come to think about it, is it really worth going there?

So what action have you taken after speaking with me, Bhavana? Will the patrons receive a worthy treatment in terms of pricing? I understand I'm just a very very small fish in a sea of people with insanely fat wallets, but yeah, until this thing does not get resolved, you won't have me coming in for sure. And for the rest of the people who are just like me (the regular junta) will also think twice about coughing up around 2000 bucks for a meal for 2.
We made an impromptu visit here last week and even though it was a busy evening, they were gracious enough to quickly find us a table. We wanted to go light so requested them to suggest a soup that wasnt too thick or filling. They suggested the lemon pepper soup. This was followed by a chicken clay pot dish (whose name I cant seem to recollect) and a chicken pot rice. No points for guessing how tasty the khimchi here is!!It kept us busy till our order came in. But the soup was absolutely amazing. It was light but had the ingredients in the right amounts...enough to give the required zing. Kept us raving about it throughout the evening!! Next came the chicken and the pot rice which took us by surprise. Unlike the Thai pot rice which is usually with a gravy and enough veggies, this was like steamed rice with chicken but soo fragrant and flavourful that it just made our day!! The chicken was spicy enough and coupled with the rice it created quite a riot in our mouth. Portions were quite good and VFM.
I must mention the ambience. It looks tiny from the outside but the interiors have been done really well with a Oriental feel. All guests were being attended to promptly. I took note of a very sweet family next to our table where the server was kind of entertaining the 2 little girls who had come to dine with their parents. The elder sister was helping her younger sibling use the chopsticks. Was so adorable to watch them. Kind of made me wish I had a sister like that! :)
Oh yes, they even give you an option to use chopsticks. But I didnt want to embarass myself so stuck to the usual cutlery. The Chinese tea was also refreshing..unlike the hot water it usually tastes like at other places.
We topped our dinner up with some Orange Crème brûlée...aah what bliss!! The perfect way to end our very eventful evening.
I'm definitely going to revisit!
Had gone with a lot of hope to celebrate my birthday yesterday... Have to say that i wasn't disappointed in the least! Right from the time i called them up in the afternoon to book the place till the time we left, I surely had the feeling that it was special....
Food by all standards was awesome.... Veg food and non veg food alike! First time i had Duck, and i have say that it was fabulous! A must have for all you meat lovers...
Crab Meat soup, Duck pepper blast, Pan noodles and the list goes on and on; was surprised at the amount of food 8 people could eat (though was made to realize that fact on receiving the bill). On the expensive side for sure the bills came to a stratospheric 986/head...
But definitely worth it! The cake cutting too was lovely and the service was spot on... Hardly anything to crib about (other than the bill ;-))
Will surely visit again! hope the inflation doesn't catch up with the next visit....

Thank you Rhan..Looking forward to your next visit.:)
This place is great.
This place is great. I tried the open faced ollie's bialy and smoked salmon which was perfect. The sweet and sour pickled cucumbers on the side were so good, don't miss it.
I also tried the pastrami scramble - it was good, the onions were in big pieces - so tasty. they serve it with a little cream cheese, toast (full of butter) and potatoes kugel - which also was very tasty.
Value for Money
The original plan to go to Royal China was scrapped as the fiasco was still lingering in my mind, not even the excellent Duck would make me want to try it twice in the week, so celebrate my folks Anniv. we decided on the much touted buffet at Mainland China.
590/head and one person free for every four persons seemed a fair pricing. A walk to the buffet spread saw sum interesting and sum not so interesting dishes. The veg spring rolls were sumhow very doughy but was compensated by the potatoes which really tingle yr taste buds. Skip the cocktails even tho they reasonably priced at 195+ vat. I sent mine away twice for the 'bartender' to 'get the feel' then finally walked up and mixed my own.
The main course had a good meat variety of crabs in oyster sauce( i wud like to say Schezuan) prawns, chicken and a very good fish. The desserts too were good, they had custard. a house truffle, fruits, mousse and others.
All in all a satisfying meal though not out of the world, but good VFM considering the variety. Must mention the waiter Ashish who was very courteous and on his toes at all times. I think he shoulld get the 'Captains' job, who was spotted just once near the Bar, looking bored and thirsty!
A Foreinger's Experience
We are from New Zealand and were looking for fine-dining experience preferably Chinese cuisine. We saw Mainland China from the outside a day before but didn't think much of it. Then our hotel staff suggested we go there, so we did. The fact that it was on an upper level made me think that this will occupy some space so should be good and fancy. When the left doors opened, we were shown to a table. The first impression of the decor was nice. The ambiance and atmosphere was pleasant and the service we received was professional and certainly nice. We were always waited upon as soon as waiters noticed we might need something. Food was great. Drinks were great. Everything was great. We appreciated the fact that it was mentioned in the menu there will be additional tax/service charges as no other place we have been to states this and then our bill comes as a surprise. I have nothing negative to say about this place. Id anyone come to India this place will definitely be recommended by us. The only great place we have been to in our trip.
A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE
We had visited mainland china many years ago n we went again this time to the one in bandra for my birthday, it was surely a memorable experience for me .
There were six of us and the bill came to around rs 3500.
We had ordered two mocktails which were priced around rs 130,the mocktail seventh heaven tasted good actually a bit like pina colada.
we also ordered three soups hot and sour chicken which tasted really good and eight treasure soup which was ok.
soups are priced at around rs 180.
T he other items we had were steamed dimsums and diced chicken with pepper n garlic,
For the maincourse we had shredded black pepper chicken ,fragrant pot rice n garlic noodles.
The mustard and black pepper sauce had a very unique flavour to them, which made the dishes taste even better
The food was very good, the ambience was nice but it was crowded n there was a lot of noise so we could hardly converse with each other.
As it was my birthday they gave a complimentary brownie and ice cream and a person played the guitar and sang happy birthday, which made the evening special
VALUE FOR MONEY-4/5
Surely a good place to visit for food, service n ambience.
Good food..classy, but a bit noisy ambience..
Was at Mainland China last night to celebrate my wifey's b'day.. booked a table for two, and reached on time.. and the table was reserved for me.. didn't really like the location though of the table, as was right outside the washroom.. but I guess they hardly have 1 or 2 tables which are only for 2, so I had no choice.. well, I did ask them to play the b'day song as it was my wife's b'day when I made reservation on phone, and they did say that they surely will..
We ordered chicked hot and sour soup to start with, which came in quickly but I guess they served the veg instead of chicken.. as we didn't notice a single piece of chicken in the soup, and there was a lot of tofu in there.. but I didn't bother much as the soup was tasty and we were already half way thru the soup by the time we realized.. well, then came the turn for main course.. and I ordered one of their mainland china specialty dish which was something like "shredded chicken with shichuan sauce".. and ordered some Jasmine steamed rice, as I am not really a fond of fried rice and my wife didn't want any noodles.. The guy who took the order told me that it would take 30 mins or so as the Jasmine steamed rice takes a little long.. so I said okay as I was not in a rush... well, after about 45 mins, and after I had finished almost 3 bowls of the salad they serve complementary, I inquired about where our food was.. and the waiter told me it will take another 2 mins.. and that 2 mins again took 20 mins, and finally our food was here.. when the "shredded chicken...." dish was served, I felt as if it is not chicken, so I asked the guy who was serving (who was a different guy than the one who took order) and he said that it is "shredded potato with shichuan sauce".. and so I told him to ask the guy who took the order and confirm what I ordered.. he came back, and apologized and took my dish back.. and said he will bring the chicken dish in another 5 mins.. well those 5 mins again took about 20 more mins.. and by that time all our apetite was already gone.. the guy who took the order came twice to apologize, and served us coke as complementary.. it was strange that he just brought coke by himself rather than asking us if we want something to drink which will be complementary.. well, I like coke, but my wife doesn't.. but I didn't bother to ask him to change it.. finally the food came, and the taste was good.. we finished our main course, and then they got us a brownie cake with ice-cream as complementary.. which was a nice gesture from them.. and a guy with guitar came to our table along with a singer, and they played a b'day song for my wife.. and she felt really good.. so I guess that rectified the grievance we had with the delay in serving food..
but I was surprised about one thing.. which is that they charged both 12.5% VAT and a 10.3% service tax on the bill.. and as far as I know, a restaurant can't charge service tax unless it's a caterer who is catering in a conference hall or something.. Again, I didn't bother much even when the service tax itself adds up abt 125 bucks to the bill, but I am wondering if its a malpractice followed by the restaurant..!!!
The reason I am giving it a 3 star is because of the noisy ambience and the delay in food.. the food quality was good, but then they do charge a lot for that so we can expect quality food..
Real fine Fine Dining!
Went to MC after ages! I had heard a lot about this one and am glad I visited it!
Right from getting off the elevator you can feel the impeccable hospitality that awaits you! (Interestingly I found such hospitality right from the entrance only at Chinese standalone Restaurants!)
Ambiance looks fantastic...has a very rich and befits a Fine Dining experience!
What we ordered(All Veg and I don't remember the names) -
*1 Crispy Chilli BabyCorn (They were kind enough to offer to make a small non spicy one for my 5 yr old niece, this is what you call "details" and matters so much!)
*1 Crackling Spinach
*1in2 Coriander Thick Soup
*1 Veg Fried Rice (no frills, the classic one)
*1 Seasoned Vegetables in Parsley Sauce
*1 Sizzling Brownie
Total tab - 2536 rs (includes 10% Service Charge, 12.5% Vat, 22% Vat on Drinks). Expensive yes!
But everything we ordered was lipsmacking delicious! The starters and the soups were so good...I was so full but couldn't stop eating! And yes the main course was yet to arrive!
Fried Rice was basic, but cooked to perfection and the accompanying main course dish in Parsley Sauce was truly heavenly and so was the Sizzling Brownie!
Staff was very friendly and courteous! Keep the good work going mates!
I went for lunch and skipped Dinner that day as I was so full! Really!
Next time I am keen on trying their buffet!
Go for it...you gonna love it!
The first time I went to Mainland China was on Sunday with some friends the chicken in oyster sauce was nice along with the roast chicken rice but the pot rice was rubbish, i have tasted better pot rice at other restaurants and OMG the worst of all the dishes was the Hubei Prawns, i dont know what exactly was wrong with the dish but I'm sure they didn't clean the prawns well as in they didn't remove the vein from the Prawn, coz the next day my friends and me were in terrible pain, to our bad luck it was food poisoning, thanx to the prawns. Never coming back there Mainland China. I love food and love trying out different restaurants but once you give me a wrong dish I shall not return back under any circumstances. It must have been that 1 prawn which ruined our lives for the next 3 days but it cost you a good bunch of customers.
I just went there for dinner, a Sunday night, and I've got to say, it was one of the most impressive meals I've had. Excellent and prompt service, a wide range of food for both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarians and an ambience to kill - especially the large tables that made eating so comfortable.
My meal started with some complementary chinese tea, and I ordered some signature chicken wantons. In veg, the crispy chilli corn pepper went well with a beer. For mains, I had some Garlic Fried Rice with Iceberg (which was aromatic and tasty by itself) with a Four-Veg. in Hunan Sauce and some Roast Lamb which was simply orgasmic.
I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a fine dining experience. It is expensive though, a meal for 3 with beer comes at excess of Rs. 2500, but it's tottally worth it!
Buffet - not upto my expectations
Sunday lunch was the buffet at mainland china at about 700 Rs per head, well i expected quite a lot from it considering that global fusion has somewhat raised the bar. and that mainland china does serve good chinese...
alas... the buffet im sure is highly profitable to them and a serious rip off for the customers
- lets start with the starters , only chicken are you kidding me china gate buffet has a choice of 4 and global fusion has an entire dumpling section and here we get 1 chicken and one spinach dumpling and it seemed like it was limited because they never did bring them around..
- main course had lots of vegetarian stuff vegie in this sauce and vegie in that sauce.... meh skipped the complete section
- ok non veg part lobster crab and prawn and chicken and lamb sounds good right but sadly all tasted the same .... lobster quoted thickly with flour deepfried and tossed in a bland sauce , same with the prawn ( which were small sized) and the crab was really bland and quoted with dough... even though we were really hungry we could not really eat much , which had us wondering if they was soda bicarb in my food.... however i liked that the menu had all these items... most disappointing was the lobster..
- dessert the usual medley of below average dessert with the exception of fried honey noodles with chocolate sauce delicious ... lip smacking....
im a hard one to please i know however i would recommend global fusion any day over this buffet or even the china gate buffet which had some really nice items like the pot chicken , tiger prawns and lemon grass rice....
Consistent & Great
This is one place that never lets me down - whether in Mumbai, Pune or Hyderabad. They are amazingly consistent in the taste of any of their dishes - and it does not matter which branch.
The Bandra one is one of the larger of their Mumbai branches. The seating may seem a bit tight, but go for their raised section. Cozy and romantic.
Service - always a pleasure. Food - I will be back here for sure.
If you are a regular, ask for their Speciality Restaurant card.
And thank god for valet parking - especially on Linking Road!
Great Food Great Atmosphere
Went to Main Land China for a dinner. Had a great time, the food and the drinks were awesome. Though the place was a bit loud on music and was terribly cold (air conditioner!!) but the service was homely and very nice. The waiter even got a shawl for my friend...!!! A great experience on the whole...a very nice place to visit!!
The dining experience at Mainland China is just amazing!! The food taste is one of the best in Mumbai. Even the mocktails here taste far different than any other restaurant. The rice especially their flavoured pot rice taste so good you can have it without gravy.
Though it is slightly on the expensive side the food is totally worth the cost!!! At first it is a little tough to spot the cost of a dish on the menu but if you read carefully you would like the concept. A meal for 2 with starters main course, desert and mocktails could be a little above 1k.
The air conditioning cools you down and I mean it literally, so by the time you are done you might feel a little chilled out in every sense of the word. However the staff is very courteous and they will provide you a shawl if you ask them for it.
Great food, great service as usual
Was really glad to see that they've opened an outlet in Bandra. Earlier I used to stay at Andheri and now having moved towards town was missing on the great food that Mainland China always serves. I discovered the Bandra outlet - it's above Shopper's Stop - a couple f months back and have already visited the place a number of times. My favourite is the General Tao's Chicken - must try. Even some of the deserts - sizzling brownie wih ice cream and hot chocolate rolls are delicious. Am visit for all Chinese food lovers...
Wish we could actually kiss the chef like the ad!!
Woooow is what we said after everyyy single dish served to us ! We were a group of four and enjoyed our meal from start to the end...
Tried the peppery lemon soup , vegetables salt and pepper an tofu hunan style for starters... the soup was excellent, must try ! and the veg salt n pepper was cooked to perfection! the chilli garlic noodles in the mains was the star...
The captain Dilash who served our table asked us desserts? so my friend joked yeaaa if its free! and guess what , he got us a complimentary chocolate rolls with vanilla ice cream... not only was the dessert lip smacking but his gesture with that smile was awesme!
A musttt visit place if youre lookin for "non indian" chinese khana!
Great Food... Great Place

Thanks a ton!! We look forward to your visit again.
Great food overshadowed by pathetic service
Was there again last night, were a big group of 14 with many first timers, who had never been to any of Mainland China's outlets.Though the food was great as usual the service was appalling to say the least, the staff looked totally harried ,clueless, they were roaming around like zombies.Surprising for a hotel of this calibre, first no one came to take the order & had to wait for ages for the soup, starter & main course. In the end when we complained they served us dessert on the house.Irony is that gr8 food without good service left all of us quite peeved as we were literlly begging for food to be served.

The restaurant is pretty grand and also manages to serve a decent Chinese fare. I personally prefer the lighter Hunan food at restaurants, because in the schezuan department nobody can be better than the Chinese Food carts spread over Bombay along with their Chutney (Schizuan Sauce).
The started were excellent. The best part was the degree to which they were cooked. The crispy mutton dish I had was having too much of crispiness taken from the coated flour. I personally like the crispiness derived from the meat like with Bacon Rashers.
The service is extremely courteous and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal experience. I have no complaints about the food. In fact some of the new gravies tested were really nice.
One issue I have is regarding the green tea. Is it supposed to have a taste. More often than not it tastes just like warm water. I hope to actually taste the flavour someday
Never had the guts to drive all the way to saki naka, hence missed out on dining & enjoying top class food at mainland china, but the opening of a branch @ linking road has been a boon.Great Ambience, courteous staff & to top it with execllent food made a perfect meal.Braised promfet & tsing hoi chicken were the highlight of the outstanding meal...
Thumbs up to Mainland China!
The food, the ambience and the service are all impeccable at Mainland China. This is totally unbiased ! As for the management-they are courteous and capable. What more does one want from a restaurant? The unfavourable review posted by Shakworld reeks of mis-representation of facts...The so-called " badly behaved noise- makers" at the restaurant were high not on drinks but on the spirit of friendship and the fervour of a 40th Birthday. Come on guys we live in Mumbai -the city that welcomes harmless fun, which makes it one of the most vibrant cities in India. So guys even if at times your sensibilities are affected at something like this ,then let go... or atleast handle it in a amicable fashion...I mean those guys were downright rude to the waiters and bullying them giving dhamkis that wait and see how we spoil your restaurant's name....And for the record, the so-called irked guests were effectively placated by the management and also by the guests who so-called antagonised them and they did finish their meal...Let it be mentioned that there are no brownie points given to Bullies in Mumbai...The city's thumbs up to a young politician's recent train ride stands as testimony.....WE GIVE YOU A THUMBS UP TOO MAINLAND CHINA!
Mainland China is just the best of the best
Let me SECOND Luckystar's stance, the food and service at Mainland China is just fantastic! A restaurant is always a great place to bond with families & friends. Especially Mainland China, since the restaurant staff do not need to be told what to do - they just enjoy doing their job with inner passion and delight - leaving guests to enjoy their 'precious time' at the restaurant. I was at the restaurant on the same night and on the same table that is being referred to as 'noisy.' Let me remind my friend that there were several tables that had birthday bashes the same night. So there was a lot of singing and applauding. It appears that this person and his table were not in 'great spirits' and almost thought themselves to be in a 'kingdom of their own' for whatever reason. Under this assumption, they decided to take on the staff at the restaurant. How can they even have the audacity to comment on the restaurant staff and guests if they CAN RAISE THEIR VOICE and TALK DOWN/SPEAK AT THE STAFF? It shows a lack of consideration. They are lucky not to have been asked to leave!! The staff was courteous enough to listen to their LOUD VOICES patiently, after accommodating them for a late-night seating! But, when they went 'on and on and on' speaking at the staff it just showed that they had 'other issues' on their mind. One of the people on the table kept saying I AM FROM THE PRESS - I AM FROM THE PRESS - threatening both the restaurant staff and us! Another person just kept raising his voice! And my friend on the other table also needs to know that he has only become a member in Nov 2009! What basis would this person have to even comment on the time of becoming a member. EXPERIENCE IS WHAT MATTERS. We just had a fantastic time and decided to ignore the other table, especially since we treasured our precious time with friends! So, all in all MAINLAND CHINA remains the best restaurant of choice and it is truly a great place for friends and families to bond and have a great time!
Mainland China rocks!!
I was at the place and we were having a birthday party. After we sang happy Birthday at midnight ( and there were only two tables occupied) these guys got upset with the captains and were drunk themselves and started throwing their weight around and screaming we are PRESS and will give u a bad review because of too much noise. Two tables occupied in the whole restaurant and one birthday party and some noise at midnight is acceptable....throwing your weight around and misbehaving is not. Talk about badly behaved people and giving a restaurant a bad name. GREAT FOOD SUPER SERVICE AND A PLACE TO GO AGAIN AND AGAIN GUYS....
Ruined my night..!!!
One visits this place with gr8 expectations for the goodwill the name has carried over the years...the food is impressive too..but unfortunately the management is so poor and inexperienced that it can ruin everything...place is too noisy because of badly behaved drunk crowd which the management is just unable to control..it almost ended up being a fist fight between guests.. it came to point where some guests walked off without completing their meal... such things are not expected in family restaurants which are meant for peaceful dining... in all u can get good Chinese many other places minus all the ruckus..skip it

Authentic & Yummy!
Mainland China one of the best chinese restaurants in the city has opened at Bandra. Yipee! I went there with a lot of expectations and got exactly what I expected. The perfect fine-dine experience.
This place undoubtedly serves authentic Chinese food with impeccable service. The ambiance is delightful and in synch with its other outlets. Try the Chicken Sapo, it's really delicious.
Can't wait to go back to Mainland China! :)
Nosiy, but excellent food
Tip no 1 - book your tables in advance or wait for an hour, at least! Crackling spinach is a must, so are the fish delicacies. My pals liked the prawn dishes also. Avoid cocktails, as the size of glasses do not justify the price. Wines too r ok. Kool ambience, but everything is spoilt by laidback service. There ain't enough guys to serve in this big place and we had to shout, wave to get their attention. Guess the management does not have to care, since people are flooding this place, anyway...
Amazing Food and Service
One of the best chinese food i have had in a long time. Service was good. The only problem i found was the noise...very noisy :). Even before when it was China Wok - it was noisy - something to do with the place i think
Anyways, The service was excellent. Didnt book in advance but we got place in 30 min.
The starters were excellent, too
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 3/5 (noisy but the setup was good)
Service : 4/5
Price : 4/5 ( about 1200 / couple with some mocktails - had to drive)
Portions : 4/5
Definitly need to go back to try the other dishes. Uploaded the menu
My favourite restaurant in Mumbai
Mainland China at saki naka was my favourite restaurant in Mumbai until it opened in Bandra! I was super thrilled to learn about it! So on Xmas eve, I knew I had to check this place out.
Xmas spirit was in the air and, as expected, there was a big waiting list at Mainland. I got a table soon, walked in and saw this huge restaurant - more like a Chinese wedding hall lol...but the ambiance was pretty.
Going by the experience at other restaurants in mumbai, i really wasn't sure how the service would be on such a crowded day. Surprise surprise...the people at Mainland China really know their stuff. They expected a big crowd i guess, they were well-prepared. Despite being so busy they served with a smile. The manager recommended awesome stuff...The food was so incredible I cant do justice with words. I'm a vegetarian so I recommend -
- Corn and waterchestnut dumplings (don't forget to ask for the pepper sauce)
- Golden garlic fried rice
- Four treasure vegetables with hunan sauce
- Exotic vegetables in pickled sauce
- Hot chocolate rolls with vanilla icecream
For all this i paid some 1200 bucks.. not bad at all right? Bandra was in desperate need of an awesome Chinese restaurant and Mainland china filled that void. I just hope that they maintain their standards!!
Went there on Saturday (12/12/09) along with friends and their families. Had a great time. But mind you do not walk in without a reservation. We were astounded to see people waiting outside even at 11 pm! The food is good (We were all vegetarians mind it). The frangrant rice was very nice.... All in all a great experience but not for those looking for Udipi style Chinese.
If it's Chinese, It has to be Mainland China!
To keep up to the level of all the other outlets is not as easy as it seems, especially for a place that is loved by many. But Mainland China has outdone itself! The ambiance is standard, typically authentic like the other outlets, gives you a feel of traditional China. The tables are huge, so skip the place if you are planning to go out on a dinner date.
The food was delectable, and truly Chinese. For starters we ordered Wok Tossed Chicken in Hunan sauce. The chicken was soft and well cooked. A portion of rice and Chicken Sapo is sufficient for two. The service was impeccable and the fact that after the food was served the waiter made an effort to ask if we were enjoying the meal is really appreciated.
Damage for two would amount to Rs1000 without drinks.
The restaurant has maintained its level of perfection and certainly not let us down.
Without a doubt, this place is going to be added to the list of the best restaurants in Bandra, really soon! As for us, they have already hit the bull's-eye!
