TLDR: Bloody Awesome. Must Try Joint. Hidden Gem in Powai.
My first Review on Burrp (Yes, it is more of a rant)
I have been in Mumbai for only about a month. Being the glutton that I am, I have tried out quite a few ( and by few i mean quite a lot) pizzerias. But Milton's Mario Cafe is a standout. . It was a bit of a gamble to order a Pizza from a relatively quaint (read small/Non-Dominos :)) place with almost zilch reviews but thank God for that moment of magic in which I did dial the Pizzeria's number. Milton (the owner) is a lovely chap. He takes his time to explain his choices without being irritating and he takes extra measures to make the Pizza's as per our requirement.Me being a complete carnivore (heard from others that the Veggie Pizzas are also great) I opted for the Porky treat (with ham, salami and Spanish Chorizzo. (Honestly, it was the first time that I tried it, but man, was it fantabulous). It was the smoothest, scrunchiest, lip-smacking Pizza that my taste buds have ever had the pleasure to devour. Milton, my man, I owe you one. If this hangout can keep churning such masterpeices day in and day out, they can be rest assured to ruffle some corporate feathers before long. The dough is hand-made, with plenty of toppings (by plenty I mean PLENTY) and great value for Money. But this aint for the Gourmet guys with their wood-smoked Pizzas and the likes. They are strictly an Indianised-Italian joint who makes such wonderful Pizzas (Hey, all Indianised- Italian stuff aint bad). To sum up, AWESOME FOOD. BURRRP!..
Take your phones out and give the man a quick order and thank me later while you are licking your fingers and smiling in satisfaction.
One of the best pizza places in Bombay
Powai has almost all the standard Pizza chains and I hate all of these literally factory made pizzas. So, when a friend who's a foodie said he had found an amazing pizzeria in Powai, which perhaps one of Bombay's best, I was over the moon.
Besides amazing pizzas that come with quality, generous toppings and lip smackin' taste, what makes this pizzeria refreshingly different is the personal touch of the owner, Mr Milton. He can give you suggestions, often throws in a discount and one conversation with him and you know he's into this not because it's just a business for him, but because of his passion for great food.
I've ordered their pizzas for dinner, had them cater for a party and each time Mario's Pizza has never failed to disappoint. And what makes it even better is that they were far cheaper than the factory-based Pizza chains like Pizza Hut or Papa Johns or Dominos.
Everything from the simple Margherita to the loaded All Sicilliana or Porky treat is brilliant. And their Indian toppings (kheema for instance) are also delicious and you'll come back asking for more. The vegetarian pizzas too are wonderful--I've loved Mario's Favourite, with its generous topping of back olives and jalapenos.
I think what makes Mario's Pizza special is fresh, quality ingredients and a genuine love for good food. Mario's Pizza is not only Powai's best pizza but also of the best I've ever eaten in Bombay.
It's perhaps not artisanal pizza--I doubt Mario's uses wood fired ovens or sourdough bases, but it's close--it's that good!
