Nice place, always busy and seating is bit congested but nice to go with friends. Been here at times and had many dishes from the menu all of which have been above average. Fries, spice prawns, chicken dippers, cheese garlic bread, chicken pizza. There is a parsi menu which has Dhanshak, salli boti, pulav dal and I have tried Sali boti which is very delicious. In the dessert, there are many pastries available and they all look and taste good.
One of my friends knows the owner,so we went in on a busy afternoon and got a seat within 3 minutes which would otherwise be a 10 minute wait. Food is good and place is always bustling with action (so my friend tells me). Service is very quick and staff is very attentive. Had a veggie delight burger which was filling and then shared some french fried, garlic bread and napolitana pizza with friends which was tasty. Price was good enough for the quality.
A place for good Continental Food!
This is the place my friends and I go to when we cant decide where to go for a casual dinner. I have frequented this place a lot in the last 5 years. Despite a few not so great experiences, I have loved this place for the sheer variety of continental food, simplistic yet cool ambiance, good value for money and much more.
Yes, post the change in management there have been a few changes on the menu. They even started serving water from a glass bottle with a sprig of mint in it. (Fancy, eh?) But I guess that's stopped now. They do have a few issues to take care of - like on one occasion I ordered the fish n chips and I noticed that the quantity of chips was so petty..there were like literally just 4-5 fries on the plate. Now I like a good amount of fries especially when my dish says fish n "chips"! On another occasion when my husband ordered the crab soup we had to literally hunt for the crab meat - this despite it being a clear soup!
Its just these small things that have made me miss the original management more. Otherwise, Café Mocambo remains a place to frequent when you want to satisfy your continental food fixation.
finger lickin brilliant.
Must go. Mocambo cafe offers a variety of authentic continental dishes. My personal favorite is the yorkshire chicken lasagna. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Its been that binge eat place around the corner for a while. The dishes are reasonably priced.
I have been using this foreigner-friendly value restaurant for many years. The menu is a mixture of western and parsi, the latter being particularly good value. The recent change in management has led to brighter lighting (not a great thing), even less smart waiters and the elimination from the menu of several old favourites. But what is left on the menu continues to be good eating and reasonable value by local standards (excellent by foreign ones).
outlook of typical, old English style pubs
I love the ambience of cafe Mocambo, you can sit for hours with your friends and have beers & sizzlers. It is also not expensive as mondegar and leopold. The food here is good, snacks are worth trying and sizzlers are also good, worth the money.
The ambience gives a outlook of typical, old English style pubs, with people chatting and socializing around. worth a visit. Heard their quality has gone down after a management change, so not sure as I haven't visited the place since.
Great food though a bit overpriced...
well, let's face it... my first stop for a steak or a pasta or risotto would be Churchill! Easy on the pocket, and never ever fails to impress! However, there are days when you are tired of looking at the Churchill menu, having tried out every single thing out there so many times that you have lost count!
Mocambo provides a great alternative... it's difficult to be in the vicinity of Mahesh, and restrain yourself, but Mocambo does impress... i have been here before for their coffee, which is really good... for the first time, i went in for a full-fledged dinner... the tenderloin of the king solomon steak was indeed tender... one of the best i have ever had... and they have a rather interesting concoction of wine cocktails... the service is good and the decor is comfortable and homely... need to go back more often...
Good food, good desserts
Went with 2 colleagues for a quick lunch. Crowded place, a little dark interiors, a little smokey. We went upstairs. One of my colleagues had already been here and she ordered for a fondue first which we 3 shared, then a formaggio pasta (penne) for me and an arabitta for her and a chicken lasagna for another colleague. Finally we also had an Irish cheesecake and a tiramisu. We were stuffed because the quantity is really good. And ofcourse everything was super delicious. Service was quick. The bill was around 1300 with all taxes and everything which is a little expensive (400 per person) but for once in a while treat it is really good. Also we were all really hungry, if you are someone who doesn't eat like a godzilla then 1 dish would suffice for 2 people :)
Over Priced not worth
1st of all...menu on site is not updated...rates are much more higher then mentioned on site...We were group of 9 ppl....ordered for different dishes....in which...french fries were "Soggy".:O..Fish fry with fries was with no flavor. :()..& Florentina pasta,,,in tomato sauce,:C,,was no way near to Italian flavor...( better pasta made at home). only presentation of dishes was GOOD...other then tht..not worth visiting again...:( vnt even recommend...
Lost the glory
I have been at Mocambo cafe several times and had great experiences...I always wanted to take my wife at Mocambo Cafe..So I planned to go there with my wife to celebrate Valentines Day....First shock was that the menu card was different...and most of the menu which was present earlier was missing...We learnt that there has been new management...the food was very average..we ordered lasagne...but it was Spinach and corn in some liquid gravy (just finished it somehow...) even pasta was below average...The new staff was confused and overall to summarise..lost glory..will not go again...Good Bye...Mocambo Cafe..RIP
mocambo cafe 9/10
went to mocambo cafe after 2 years and wasnt disappointed one little bit.
this place could be the saviour to the south mumbai cafe"s. its been more than 50 years that mocambo cafe keeps serving south mumbai. a lot must have changed in terms of the look and feel of the place, the staff , the food and of course the person responsible for what mocambo cafe is, today.
we were a group of 7 people who went to mocambo. ambience aint that great, but its over powered by the food and the service, so it doesnt matter. to start with we ordered for beers, and to our surprise, mocambo has happy hours 7 days a week.
alll of us ordered individual appetizers and mains. the must try's are, deep fried crab claws, cilantro chicken and smoked bacon and cheese. also the coronation lamb and the steaks. all in all an amazing place with great food and the right value for money. though if they renovate and give the ambience a fine touch, they'll sure give the other cafe in south mumbai, a tough run for their money.
met the host while leaving. dont remember his name but, sure, he's doing a much better job than before.
Not so fine dining at inflated prices
I have been a regular patron of Mocambo restaurant for a number of years , for both lunch ans dinner and it was a fave hangout. This is when the restaurant was run by the Mistry family. The restaurant has since then changed ownership, and althoug the menu remains the same ( albeit much pricier) the same cannot be said for the food , the service and the ambience.
Lets begin with the service. No glasses were bought or water served even after being seated for over 10 minutes. Finally after being requested twice over the server got some glasses , which were mismatched, some were big and some small. Same story with placing the order .( there were at least 5 servers and only 3 other tables besides ours were occupied). The air conditioner was functioning eratically at best and to make up for the same they switched on some overhead wall mounted fans. There was a also a large screen Tv which was constantly beaming only ads and PJ's , this was very distracting and actually hurts yr eyes.
However the main point of visiting a restaurant is the food and all the above would be overlooked if the food was good. We started with the Bacon and Mushroom soup which was good. I used to love the steaks that were served there with a generous portion of veggies and potato, and ordered the same this time as well. Those who have eaten at Mocambo know what a good juicy steak is and imagine my disappointment when i was served a steak which was less than half the size, dry and with all of 4 pieces of veggies and a tsp full of mashed potato. The plate looked starkly empty. The steak was definately not up to par. We also ordered a mocambo favourite lasagna which again was a much smaller portion at a much higher price. When i spoke to the manager about the portions and the food , the only excuse he gave was the management has changed. Mocambo portions were always good, and many a times i have packed a doggy ba , but this time i went home half hungry
I feel bad as this was probably one of my favourite restaurants and i will not be going there anymore ..rather remeber the good food i ate there as happy memories .
Hope the management takes note and improves its act ....
Great food for meat lovers
We visited Mocambo in a group of 8 ppl. Being lunch time, we immediately got a place to sit. Loved the ambiance of the cafe. Light music was being played with a very nice playlist.
As for the food, most of the veggies in our group were disappointed with the food they ordered.
As for a few of us meat-lovers, we started wit a delicious prawn n crab meat soup. The crab n prawns were fresh and the soup was yummy. This was followed by Chicken Barbeque with its big serving of tender chicken pieces with a tasty sauce to accompany it. We finally ended the meal with a wonderful Yorkshire Chicken Lasagne.
Happy hours start from 3 pm til 8pm with offers on beers (Carlsberg, budweiser, etc)
I would love to visit this place again and try some more of the delicacies suggested here. Based on my experience with at Mocambo, I would suggest you to try this place for the love of gud non-veg food.
"Mocambo" ne khush kiya!
Inspite of staying just a lane away from where Mocambo is situated, for some reason I had never been there. After almost 10 years of shifting base, I visited Mocambo for the first time last Sunday for dinner with my husband.
The place was relatively full at 9 pm and the staff was kind enough to give us a table of our choice (since it was the IPL finals!! )
We asked suggestions for a hot soup and were asked to try Minestrone.. Was decently hot and good to have. For all those who love the mashed combo of potatoes, butter and cheese with a sprinkling of spice, Champ is the starter to have. Just loved it and will be back for it soon. The Risotto was just about ok.
Decently priced, Mocambo has a good ambience and good food to go with it. It has a vast Non-veg menu but the vegetarian spread is fine as well.
Mocambo ne humko khush kiya! 3.5 stars for this dinner! :)
It is a must go restaurant for any food lover in Mumbai... Service is a little slow and unenthusiastic but the food taste and quality will make up for it. Order your beer and relax (as the service is slow) and munch on their Fish n chips. Delicious..... For main course you can experiment with their Leg of Lamb. I would suggest that if you cant finish it in 15 min (ur table must have that head count), dont go for it. Once it cools down, the dish becomes very monotonous and the sauce also dries up. But its a dish worth trying when hot...
Try their Carne Pasta or Bacon & Bolognese or Paprica chicken and be sure of getting the dish of the day.
Pastries are usually fresh and tasty... A must go place in a nutshell....
Glad I finally came here :D
My first trip to this place and I must say that I came away mighty impressed :D
The food is good and stands out from the deluge of similar tasting food that you get in many restaurants across the city.
Service is a tad slow but I guess that gave us more time to chat so Im not really complaining about that, the waiters however do know what to recommend and I would like to personally recommend the Vegetarian Pasta with Eggplant extremely nice.
A do over in the ambiance department might help but it might even take away the charm of the place so I'm in two minds.
All in all a great place I'm glad I finally visited and this time my wallet came away smiling too, will definitely visit again.
Great Italian Fare
An all time favourite for Italian food, the great thing is, this is one of the excellent Italian food places that takes Sodexo coupons. The bacon mushroom soup is brilliant, all the pastas are great and cooked to perfection,. The meats are excellent, and I definitely recommend the spare ribs. The grilled fish is always well cooked, and the lemon butter sauce adds a whole new dimension to this divine dish. The range of wine is fair, and both the reds and whites make a great accompaniment for any dish you may choose to have here.
A very relaxed atmosphere, the Maitre D is very helpful, and will recommend dishes should you so ask him. The desserts are fair, and if you are stuffed after your meal (which you most probably will be), its good enough to not have to take the effort to run to an exclusively dessert place. The choice is good as well.
All portions are generous enough to fill one person with a decent appetite, and if you have a large one, a started and main course will do the trick.
Value for money, its a great option for Italian
Shiv-sagar style pizzas for Rs. 250 odd...
Decided to try out this place on a hunch, coz we had already been to Leo's, Mondy's and (our personal favourite) Universal several times. Thought that this would be in the same line of Cafe / Bar types as the three mentioned above. But when we landed there, it seemed more like a proper restaurant rather than a cafe / bar. That should have been a sign for us, but we ignored it and walked into the rather decent looking place. We ordered a couple of starters - denmark sausages and paprika chicken. The sausages were supposed to be lightly hand breaded, and fried. Whichever way you put it, what we got was a batter coated chicken cold cut, shaped like a french fry which from no angle could resemble a sausage, danish or otherwise. once you got rid of the batter, the chicken did taste good, but it was definitely a case of 'too little for too much'. Same thing with the paprika chicken. it was dry chicken cubes, with paprika flakes, and cheese coated on top. the chicken wasn't moist, the cheese had begun to cool down and harden up even before it got to the table and overall, it could have done with a little flavour. by this time, we weren't sure whether or not we wanted to order the mains, as we were all slightly disappointed by the starters, so we decided to order a pizza among the 3 of us, to help us decide. and that turned out to be the total dealbreaker. For almost 300 rs for a non-veg fiesta pizza (salami, sausages, chicken, cheese, etc) we expected something different. but they served us an 8.5" pizza, prepared on a store-bought doughey pizza base, with what may have just been amul cheese spread put on top. the pizza base was soft, and instead of being baked like all other pizzas, was heated on a grill pan (if u order a pizza there, just take a look at tht bottom of the base. you can see the grill lines criss crossing the base) i would have probably preferrd a shiv sagar pizza to this one any day. i don't know whether we ordered all the wrong things on the menu, or whether it was just our bad day, but we really didn't feel like trying the mains, which truly sounded delicious. but we decided that spending 400 INR per main, and then getting gyped in the bargain was a losing proposition. needless to say, we decided not to order anything else at the place, and just moved elsewhere.
One thing is for certain, i don't think im going there anytime soon.
A Favorite since Years!!!
I have been visiting this place since i was 16 and have never been disappointed by the food they serve. The Pork Schnitzel was one of the dishes that this place introduced me to. Though I havent eaten it in a while I am sure they havent lost the touch. My fav dish here is the Chicken Cordon Bleu and hell it hasnt changed in years....though I must say the Gravy has gone a lil too watery for my liking. The Garlic Bread and Mash were excellent....We also ordered the Spice and Nice Fries which were an excellent pass time while the food was getting to the table. My friends ordered the Penne Arabiatta (Veg) and loved it. The desserts here have been famous for a while but must have lost a lil charm now. Another unique here is the Kalla Khatta Slush which was excellent and refreshing as always.
All in all this place remains one of my favs in the city and I wont stop going here.
Youve lost that loving feeling .....
This is what i want to say to the owners of this place who have been for years now been consistently delivering good continental food especially for the Canivores (limited Veg options) with beer and wine
Some of the signature dishes here Con 2 P, Stroganoff, Country Style Mixed Grill etc have lost their taste (i dunno how this is possible ) and the last time we were there l(i think it was last sunday) we noticed some cockroaches to our horror around where they store the knives and forks....we decided to ignore the creepy tingly feeling and order anyways and didnt finish the food for the first time we visitied this place since i can remember
this cafe was also known for its desserts n the fridge looked like it hadnt been touched in weeks ..."un appetizing
I believe they are partners in Churchill also and thankfully churchill hasnt lost its touch
Im not going back here ...
Decent Place For Women To Drink In Fort
This is one of those few places where you women can enjoy a drink in this old CBD which is otherwise full of janta bars. While the drinks and starters are just yummy enough, they could surely do with quicker service. In fact, it's time they start opening their upper section before dinner time since that's when most office-goers come out for a drink and the place gets really crowded.
These guys still live in the 90's...
... when continental food was not widely available, and less-discerning diners would be easier to please.
Sorry guys, but its almost 2010, and if you think you can still get away with serving me a stale "Margherita" pizza with a store-bought ready-made base, or a never before seen "caesar salad" with carrots, tomatoes and a disgusting mayo dressing on the side, you are sadly mistaken.
I would like to give special mention to "manager" Dennis, who seems to be quite the menace. He did not like it one bit that gave him some constructive comments, and needless to say, i did not like it one bit that he did not like it one bit.
Dear Mr. Mistry (owner), please fix your food, the service, and the staff's attitude. Its a different millenium now.
Its a great place.. good food for both veggies and non veggies..and Just the yummiest melt-in-the-mouth cake desserts.
While it was always expensive, now probably it has become all the more so (or maybe I have added another course to my meals!!!) but just somehow does not appear to be money's worth anymore..Still love it tho :)
mocambo serves great food!!! if u love lots of mozarella cheese in your french fries, baked dishes etc, this is just the place for you. all items on the menu are excellent. have frequented that place sooo often, that it started giving me a discount. yes, i agree that only off late, they keep u waiting for your order for some time. if they'd just rectify that, its a place worth visiting!!!
I've really failed to understand the gung-ho about Cafe Mocambo in these so many years in Mumbai. And to figure out the specialities, I get going there with experts who recommend me the place! But darn, the first time it was a flop, the second time "Just Pass"
So, this joint has some movie shoots to its credits. So what? The food is the regular western stuff - Pasta, Lasagne, burgers and the works. nothing that distinguished itself from the rest of the so many places that get you the same food. And they were out of Dessert!!!
Clubs and Burgers - Yum!
Cafe Mocambo is the place for club sandwiches and burgers. For a hundred bucks apiece (served with french fries and coleslaw) its value for money. Just one sandwich or burger and you're done for the meal. Do try the chicken club sandwich or the special. A thumbs-up for the Fillet-o-Fish burger as well - scrumptious!
I've usually gone for dinner and never faced the bad service that all the other reviewers are talking about. Guess I'm just lucky!

Terrible service, rude waiters
interesting menu and decent food but terrrrrrrriblle timelines. Yes the waiters will assure you of a 10-15 minute wait by it ends up being close to 30-40 mins. I agree with previous comments to the T - we had the same experience where the waiters suggest that we don't know when we place the order!! Rude waiters who are curt and brimming with bad attitude. If i ever find em in the street - i'd give him a kaan patti. lol Service was once half way decent. Its the pits now.Don't plan office lunches there - trust me they take too much time. NEVER GOING BACK!!
Had heard only good things about Mocambo Cafe however, was disappointed with the overall experience
Our order took over 40 minutes to arrive. The waiters accusingly told us that "its only been 10 mins sir!"
Food and deserts were decent, nothing out of the ordinary.
Wont go back.
