Great Indian Cuisine

All the courses ordered were delicious with highest order of service. The server knew the dishes well and recommendations based on the preferences we gave were well in order.ervice and quality of food is just superb. Place could be bit noisy on busy day, decor don't have enough provisions to absorb sound.A rather unique location, within the race course it offers some great contemporary takes on Indian classics both vegetarian and non.

Awadhii Extravaganza

Recently visited this place & had one of the best experiences of Indian Awadhi Cuisine.
Awadhi cuisine not many restaurants in Mumbai do it right...But Neel sets a different example.
The service & information offered at the time of reservation was prompt & to the point.Had booked a table at their courtyard, which is beautifully lit for the dinner session.
The lovely ambiance at Tote on turf sets the right mood for food & music. The food is impeccable & sets highest standards of quality & taste.
Their varieties of kebabs are to die for, extremely alluring & filled with flavors.
The best dish to order is New Zealand Lamb Chop – right balance & flavor.
I would rate the entire experience 8 on 10 :)
Must Visit for all food lovers
P.S.:- Don’t forget to try their desserts :) yum yum …

Okayish

The ambiance is good. Just go and have a drink and come back.
Soups are bad ..... Never heard of such soups. Startes are okayish but paneer was a savior. The roti's are good and they serve good variety . but the main course meal is just not upto the mark. Does not keep up the repute it has for veg meal.

one of my favourite and most visited places to eat a good Meal. the Indian food is so good here that I can never get bored of it. thechicken starters are perfect. Mahi sarson tikka fish is another lovely option here. saundha Murg and jaituni Murg tikka is fab. the nalli shorba is full of flavour. all the varieties I've tried here are great. the Indian breads are made beautifully. the murgh e khaas was yummy. bardari Korma was good. the murgh tenth which is a pulao was amazing. the jalebi rabdi there is the beat I've ever ever tasted. what food and lovely place.

Excellent Food

Neel attempts to make Indian cuisine fine dining and have done a great job at it. The dishes are well presented with different bread and chutneys. The mutton sheekh kebab just melts in your mouth. The achari chicken tikka and mutton biryani are simply superb. Being a fine dining place I was slightly let done with the decor. The outside section is fabulous but the inside section can do with a bit of an uplift.

Elegant place with great Indian food

So we went there with my parents for a Sunday night dinner. There are two sections of the restaurant, each with its own charm, though we sat on the outer section. The decor was white metal molding like the trunk and branches of trees with chairs and tables that looked like they were from another era (in a good way), very comfortable though. Ambiance was elegant without being pretentious. The service was superlative. Our server, Harshad I think, was very attentive without being obtrusive. The food was extremely good. Some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten. The name derives itself from Indigo whose Hindi translation is Neel (It is from the same establishment as the Indigo restaurants). I thought that was pretty cool. Will definitely visit again when I need some great Indian cuisine.

kudos to this place!!!!

talk about CUSTOMER DELIGHT and this place well knows how to deliver that :) i visited here just a week back with my fiancée and i must say we simply loved it. their ambience, the food , the service is just too good. a very classy and a welcoming ambience. the food was too good. especially the prawns starter...believe me i have never had such well cooked prawns anywhere. and what taste...yummmmm. and i must not forget to mention that they take utmost care for customer satisfaction.. we had a little problems with one particular dish and without any argument they replaced it. we were extremely happy with the service and the food. we will definitely visit there again...keep it up guys!!!!

Superb

I am a regular visitor to Neel and can say for sure that I am never disappointed with the experience. The architecture itself speaks of the legacy.

The food always tastes equally amazing. Be it their Nalli ka Awadhi Shorba or the Paneer Tikka. The Kashmiri seb ki Sabzi is their Signature dish and is truly amazing. For Non-vegetarians, the gilawal ke kabab and lagaan ki nihari are must try.
The food is well complemented with the always-on-alert service. servers are well mannered matching the style of the restaurant. If one can spend around Rs. 2000 for a meal of 2 (drinks extra), the place is a must visit.

Absolutely Delicious

Located inside the Maha Laxmi race course, the revamping of the restaurant has been a refreshing change.

The interiors are lavish and spacious and live upto the price tag.

The staff is very courteous and helpful.

The Shatwar Pista Shorba was served hot and the taste was different but very full filling.

Badami Paneer Tikka was grilled to perfection and the paneer was very soft as well, which ensured the flavour stayed in. The Sarsonwali Tandoori Sakarkand also was good.

The Kathal ki Dum Biryani was served in a bowl which was packed air tight with the topping. the rice used for the same was long and grainy and the taste was excellent.

Zafrani Malai Paratha exceeded expectations and was very well made.

Coming to the desserts the Badshahi Shahi Tukda was delicious and melted in your mouth, can easily say this is the best Shahi Tukda I have ever had.

Great food, Lovely spacious place

Decided to go to Neel Tote on the Turf yesterday with my wife and daughters. Called up to confirm a reservation but was told that the earliest seating would be 10 pm as the place is full. They asked me to check again which i did but got the same reply. Then asked my wife to do it and guess what she was immediately confirmed for a 9 pm reservation.
Guys you need to organize your reservation system else u will loose a lot of customers.
Reached there at 9 15 and the place was like 50% occupied. I just don't get it with these fine dine restaurants on why do they say full when the place is not even 50% occupied!!!
The first thing which strike's you is that they have a lot of space which is a rarity in a city like Mumbai. There was a party going on next door but as the place is so big and the tables are placed so spaciously it was very peaceful.
Have to say the service is very good. They charge a 10% service charge but the service is very good and attentive. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and i went with his suggestions and they turned out to be great.
Being light eaters we just ordered the 3 Kebabs and Naan to go along with it.
The mutton boti kebab(i think they call it Pakka gosht ke kebab) was outstanding. its the best i have had in a long time. The meat is very tender and melts in your mouth and there is also a hint of pomergranate which adds to the flavor. With garlic nan it was wonderful. We also had the Chicken Reshmi((Murgh Malai Kali Mirch) which was good but not outstanding and a Chicken kebab from the menu of the day which was excellent. It comes with a Alubhukara chutney which is perfect. I wish i had ordered one more of it. It was spicy, flavourful and melt in the mouth. The Tandoori Warqi and Bakhnumas naan were also very different. I just have 2 suggestions....the portions should be little more and the prices little less. Paying 600 bucks for 4 pieces of chicken is expensive. But i guess one pays for the quality of the food and the whole fine dine experience. All in All a great experience and will surely visit again for the Gosht kebab.

Unique preparations, good service!

One of the most unique Indian food menus and preparations to match. The outdoor seating during winters makes the perfect ambience to match whats on offer - great kababs and soups. The main course needs some work. The morels are a must-try. The food needs to be piping hot. Despite my repeated reminders to the staff, they continued to serve it lukewarm and blame it on the wintry weather. Overall, highly recommended!

RATS ALIVE! Sad and shocking!

Fab dining experience, until I saw a huge rat eating off the station where the waiters who were chatting amongst themselves, had left the food they had cleared off the tables. It was walking over the clean silverware (serving spoons in the main) and appeared twice to top up. Waiters were none too concerned when I pointed it out, in fact they found my concern funny. I called the manager, one Mr. Abhiraj, today as I was disturbed by the nonchalant attitude taken by the staff. Did not get the feeling that it would be safe to go back, or that it would be dealt with it. Felt rather sad as it would be a great place to revisit. Great outdoor space. What a shame that they care so little about their clients' well being.

surreal, delicious & courteous...

i visited neel in Mahalakshmi race course (earstwhile Tote's)...and believe you me...it was an amazing experience...the only dampner was tht it was a dry day...but it was a blessing indisgiuse, as we got to taste some great food....

the location and the ambience was superlative...

the staff was extremely courteous and served us with a constant smile on their face...even if they were instructed to do so as their job....it seemed genuine...therefore, enhancing the experience further...

but the super star was the food.....the kakori kebab, mixed rotis (wakri, malai paratha, khamiri, ulte tawe ka paratha etc)...biriyani, kali daal, yakhni pulao..etc etc....all in one word...DELICIOUSSSSSSSSSSSS...

Yes the place is slightly steep on the pocket...but c'mon guys...good things come witha price tag...

will highly RECOMMENDED this place..usually i dont step out to eat India cuisine...but NEEL...yes i shall frequent you...

Innovative Indian

This place has somehow never impressed me in terms of food - neither in it's earlier avatar as Tote nor now with Neel. But I like the fact that they have tried to experiment and try something different in a cuisine that not many people would take kindly to.

Given it's Indian food it's usually families that frequent the place making it a bit noisy. Definitely not where you'd want to take your date.

Food: Ordered the Matar Malai Tikki which is a version of Hara Bhara Kebab, a kebab with water chesnuts and lotus stem I think which most people left untouched but was served with a nice dip made of apples. And of course the perennial paneer. Main course was Khada Paneer which was good but dry, black and yellow dal. The black dal was good but after Bukhara I guess very few places can hold its own. The surprise was the Lasooni saag. Yumm though not for everyone. Biryani was decent. Overall the food tried but somehow didn't manage to cross the mark despite it's parentage. The server recommended the warqi paratha which was delish and super soft.

Service: Service was good. They don't allow any outside cake but if you're celebrating an occasion they will provide you with one.

Damages: Rs 600 per person which isn't bad at all.

Honestly didn't find any compelling reason for me to visit again.

Location drives the show!

Yes, plenty of Racecourse members and Bombayites would love going to Mahalakshmi. Turning heart of the best Pubs, Clubs, Eatery places.

Neel is good with pretty laid back classically classy ambiance. At Dinner the place is well lit up.

Service is courteous but certainly a little intrusive. Many times giving too many options for serving just doesn't work.

Food, Veggie was really good, innovative preparations that taste well. Non-Veggie was a little disappointment with either bland or lightly spiced versions. The quality of Chicken not very tender. Meat, strictly okay.

Haven't tried but apparently they serve some nice buffet lunches.

Overall, a good experience. But seems more like the Racecourse location drives much of the show than the food.

Suggest to update the WebSite as ppl are still expecting Intalian cusines @ Neel.

Enjoy,
Tejal

Neel the place to be

If you want to dine on food from the times of yore cooked just the way it was Neel is the place to be, the food is suprisingly light and doesnt leave one feeling lethargic at the end of the meal. The Kebabs melt in your mouth, the black daal is wonderful, and the biryani is to die for unlike its hyderabadi cousin (which is just masala) this actually has a wonderful depth of flavour,The only negative thing is the noise factor its too bloody noisy !!! Please please do something about it if you can doesnt matter we will keep coming back any how :)

Mind blowing

What an experience we had at Neel...mind blowing is the first thing that comes to mind!
Neel is exactly where tote restaurant was but in a different avatar and what an amazing avatar it is.
The food is exemplary and outstanding, several notches higher than any other indian restaurant in mumbai. I quite enjoy copper chimney, punjab grill but neel is in a different league. High quality ingredients, imaginative cooking and very efficient and friendly service (quite unlike the arrogant ways of its previous avatar). The managers and waiters helped us remarkably well with the ordering and they were quite spot on.
The kababs and curries were super succulent and rightly spiced (mutton melts in the mouth), breads were great, biryani outstanding and desserts were yummy. All in all, Neel is a fabulous addition to the gastronomic map of Mumbai.
After thinking a lot, I can come up with two problems. The menu descriptions can be better since the dishes have quite unique names (at least for me) and secondly, the portion size in general are small and can be a little more but I cant dock a star for that because we enjoyed everything that we ate.
Damages: 5360 for 4 people including 4 pints of beer and 2 breezers.
Please go to Neel.
PS- The rating of Neel is not reflected correctly because of the previous poor ratings of tote.

Super Food in the new NEEL and excellent service

Went on the opening night of Neel.

The decor is almost the same as the earlier Tote with some minor changes.

The food is excellent. It is Mughlai food but with much lesser oil and gravy so it does not make you feel too heavy later.

What we ate - ( all veg)

Soup - Pine nut shorba - very nice , though a tad oversalty which they gladly replaced.

Starters - Sofiyana Paneer which is aniseed flavored paneer tikka kind - decent
Tandoori Gobi - very nice and subtly flavored with mustard.

Main course we had a spinach and lotus root sabzi, a brinjal sabzi and a kashmiri apple sabzi - Kashmiri apple sabzi was OKish , the other two were very good.

Veg Biryani was excellent! Made dum pukht and opened at our table .

The apricot halwa for dessert was excellent.

The service was very friendly, attentive and eager to please.

Overall damages for 5 people - one soup, two mocktails, two starters, 3 sabzis, 3 breads, and one dessert came to 4000 bucks. Most veg dishes are around 350-400 rs each.

I will be visiting again

Ambience: Entirely done up in white with plastic white trees (I think) and muted tones its a great place for a date or where the focus is on the conversation.

Food: The bread basket had some nice garlic bread but was only served with butter. I tried the Pizza Margherita and Pasta in Pesto. Both were good but nothing exceptional. I'd requested for olives and sun-dried tomatoes in the pasta. Is it just me or is having entire olives with the seed in your pasta weird. Its the first place I've seen this.

Drinks: Had the Ruby which is a nicely mixed yum cocktail with cranberry juice and fresh raspberries I think.

Service: The service is a bit slow. We waited for 20 mins after getting our drinks and no bread basket. Finally we asked for one.

Since I couldn't decide what to order from all the exotic options I asked the server to recommend something. He suggested I go for the pasta in white sauce. Since I'm not fond of white sauce I asked for another recommendations. So he suggested pasta in pesto which is surprisingly because this is something one can eat at most places. Not only that he also recommended the same thing to my friend who asked for a suggestion. Do they specialize in just one veg dish ?

Damages: Approx Rs 4000 for 4 mains, a cocktail, a beer and 2 shakes

I think they really need to get their act together, improve the service and educate the servers on their offerings.

Overpriced

We went for dinner to Tote on turf on 26th Jan. The place looks cool and ambience is good. We shared one starter, chilled prawns which was unusual and good. We had two mains an Olive rubbed chicken which was OKayish and the steamed ravas with coriander which was very mediocre. The bill without alcohol was Rs 3300 for one starter, two mains, and two good coffees. Overpriced.

Made us SMILE

We were there, 2 saturdays ago and post all the bookings and warnings from fellow brethren that the place is gonna be bursting at its seams, we entered the massssssive bar section with just 2 other people for company.
Exquisitely constructed and embellished dark corners, low lighting and the veneer cuts make the place look rich
The women had a bottle of white wine. I had the much talked about Celery Martini and came away suitably impressed. The mojito that followed felt stripped of its alcohol thoug. My pal ordered a 'Martini Noir', i think & very soon found reason to order something else (guess the wry look on his face spoke a million words)
The restaurant was closed that day and so only bar snacks were available. Super portions and very very yummy - Peperoni Pizza. Dal Gosht with brun, a chicken thingy whose name i dont remember and the quintessential fries.
We stayed on till 12:45am and at no time was the place packed - sad (when i think about it) happy (when i think about it). The waiters were brilliant, very accomodating and quick to respond (pretty much beat the stereotype, hollow)
1 bottle of wine, 4 cocktails, 3 short eats, 2 fries (5 large portions of these small portions, as they called it) came to some 7k......
SEXXY!!!!

Amazing Server "VISHAL"

We just walked in at TOTE last week for lunch & got the table.
Unfortunately it was a DRY DAY. As we were placing the order to server he recommended Eggplant appetizer, Green Garlic Risotto & Asparagus sandwich with brie for our Main we were really amazed with the explanation on his recommendation. He quickly then got us bread which was absolute hot & well grilled.
The food was great but was faint in front on his service as he was very clever, attentive, interactive he was just brilliant in all aspects. We very regular to many restaurant but we never ever have got a service like this all thanks to Vishal.
We'll come back to Tote not for the food but for a sevice of Vishal.

Waka Waka :-)

I had been to this place a few times when it opened and then like many others decided to call it quits. The place had the most mediocre food that chef Akerkar ever served and the managers belived that they are doing a favour by giving us a service. It was RIP Tote for me.
After reading last few good reviews, i was contemplating going there when i got invited by a friend for a brunch there on snday and what a brunch it was!! Uncomparable and simply the best.
Where in Mumbai will you find live food counters of over 100-150 ft serving hot food like Eggs, Salad, Nalli Niahri (amazing), Kababs, Rumali, Barbeque, Pasta, Khausuey, fish tawa, Waffles, Pancakes, Desserts and much more and the commendable thing was that everyting tasted EXCELLENT. The service was outstanding for a change and i could see some old familiar managers too. The place had a lovely feel the whole afternoon. It was just a perfect way to enjoy the sunday. The food was yummy and delicious, ambience was lovely and service was pleasant and efficient. what else can one ask for? I felt like dancing in joy...waka waka!
Well done, i hope the place keeps up the good work. I will be back soon for more!

amazing food!! great chef!!

i visited this place on a saturday afternoon, just wanted to give it a try since read a lot about it on burrp

we asked for cream of chicken soup, the server told us its possible after he spoke to the chef. i was served the best chicken soup i ever had, found his name chef Pritesh, sous chef.

i would like to mention here that eventhough they have 4 soups on the menu( including a day special),the chef still went out of his way to make what we wanted, he has a great attitude and this is what will take this place higher. You rock Chef Pritesh!!

for the mains we had snapper fish which was divine!! I will really like to thank all u guys at tote and spcially chef Pritesh for making our experience a memorable one!! i am definitely coming back again!!

Tons of improvement

I must say well done to the management HUGE IMPROVEMENT !!! The food concept is still the same but the plate looks appealing and has sides which is great !!! The service staff seem more comfortable now serving tables, taking orders and seem more confident in a way, they make recommendations even which creates an up beat atmosphere. I was also informed the bar now serves main courses as well (except Friday and Saturday if I am not mistaken) which was not the case last time I visited, good going! I went for a sort of corporate lunch last week and had a great time, some how the ambiance was relaxing and not only did we get a lot of work done but had a great time!! I will definitely come back, all I can say Tote is you deserve those 5 stars and keep up the great work!!!

Pizza Heaven

My friends and I visited Tote Last week for Lunch, and were surprised to find Pizza's on their menu, we decided to give it a try and ordered a Grilled Chicken pizza, with a couple of toppings. In that time we tried some of their mocktails, their Virgin Bloody Mary is simply amazing it packs a beautiful heat and their sour passion was just right. Our Pizza arrived around 10 minutes later and IT WAS DIVINE !!!! Nice crispy thin crust, and baked to perfection ! It was a real treat, another point to note is I had heard a lot of negative things with regards to the service (that the staff is rude etc.) it was not the case here our server was very polite and also helped us order. I also liked the fact that the Chef came to check up on all diners to make sure that everything was alright... I am definitely coming back and this time bringing more friends, not only for the pizza's but also for trying out some of the other dishes on the menu and for more Bloody Mary!!!

awesome Food!

i happen to visit this place on a july afternoon along with my business partners. they have been there and its my first time to Tote, i must say the place is great but the food is exceptionally outstanding..

we were on a business lunch so were in a bit hurry..we ordered 2 soups, one being roasted pumpkin( beauty!)and green peas. the soups arrived in 10 minutes, nice n hot..well seasoned n in hot soup plates..guess it was the chef who knows..how to cook n serve as well...

for the mains ,we had a red pepper risotto n a steak medium. the food was flavourful, steak cooked to perfection, with a robust sauce which they call a homemade steak sauce as the server informed.they have a open kitchen and a woodfired grill.n i can also see a head chef cooking along with his team.later he came to ask us how was the meal .guess his name was pritesh. i gave him my feedback that it was excellent and i am looking forward to come over again.this place is a perfect example how a chef makes a difference since i have read many negative comments about food here.

keep up the good work chef!! see you all soon!!

Good but not exceptional

They have changed the balcony area sitting to regular chairs and tables vs the low sitting sofas earlier. A good change as its much more comfy now to sit on these to eat then the low sofas. It was quite a nice ambience of sitting in the balcony with the glass wall and the natural light coming in, and seeing the rains, Ideal for day time .

Drinks - We had a ginger fizz , fresh lime soda and a virgin caprioshka - all the drinks were Okayish - very regular and nothing great.

Starters we had some eggplant thing which was very tasty !. 3 mushroom soup with truffle oil which was the soup of the day also was very nice.

Main course-

Kafir lime corn cakes in thai sauce - an old favorite but this time it was rather dry. So had to ask for additional curry.

Artichoke , sundried tomato and olive pizza - thin crust - nice, but not great.

Red pepper risotto- loved it !.

Service was nice, but could have been better. Had to ask a couple of times for water refills which should not happen in a fine dining restaurant with prices to match,

The bill came to 3300 for one portion each of the above dishes,

All in all, superb ambience but some items are excellent while some are okayish.

Change of mind

Well, I was like most of the unhappy guests when tote opened. The food was pretentious. Too small a menu, little attitude from staff....the whole gamut. Went there last week for dinner on a weekday and ido have to re-think all the bad things i had said about this place.

Menu/Food: YES the menu can be with a much larger variety and they have compromised a bit here. Lot of new dishes added, lot of them removed/tweaked but its still a very short menu for a catchment of the best business and residential areas in Mumbai. Yes they have improved ther menu, but it still lacks depth and simplicity.

Food: Far better than before so on the right track but still too complicated and confusing. Hey chefs!!!....Your menu should be designed to the demographics too, not just to your preferences. Anyway, I did have a far better lunch that the last time (3 months ago). No complaints taste wise...food was fantastic and i did overeat!!

Service: Service has been pretty good since I see many ex-indigo faces here and i have a comfort level with them and vice versa. Nothing to add here. Service was super. They still new my drinks and asked where i celebrated my birthday last week! Not bad for remembering!!

Recommendation: Get your menu a bit mainstream too. Not suggesting you remove the dishes i cant pronounce, add more that is easier for the regular diners to choose from. We go out for dinner mostly as we want to eat at a place that will both, make us feel at home, and also give us some comfort food.

Hope someone's listening!!!

An evening to remember

I went here to celebrate my sister's birthday and we had a lovely evening!!!! The bellini was fantastic. The appetizers were amazing. You must try the mushroom seekh kebabs. The bread basket that they serve complimentary is awesome - esp the garlic bread. Their thin crust pizzas are to die for. The only disappointment was the ceasar salad and some thai dish that we ordered for the main course. We ended our meal with some amazing oreo cookie ice cream!!!

horrible !!!

ok so ill start with the positive stuff... great ambiance and their staff member was really sweet.. thats all the positive feedback i can give. Now for the negative review... the menu has no variety at all... maybe 5 chicken dishes max.. !! i mean cmon. The main course menu has no more then 20 (max) choices for both veg n non-veg!

Anyways Vishal was sweet enough to make my spagetti the way i wanted it... when the food arrived it was half cooked... so much garlic that i had bad breath the entire night. the drinks turn up more than 20 minutes after we have ordered..

when time came to pay i was shocked cuz all I had eaten was spagetti and dite coke.. which cost me 1100 bucks... :0

I was so dissapointed with the place I think they should shut down !!

Overpriced, tasteless, insipid, cold food

Eight of us ate at Tote a couple of weeks ago, and it was the worst dining experience I have ever had, and also the most overpriced.

To begin with, the waiter took forever to give us a menu. Service was generally poor, requiring several reminders to get us water, spoons and other basics. Once the waiter brought us an icecream without the spoon, and by the time he brought the spoon the icecream melted.

We ordered several starters, including the herbed bread (forget the french name), rajma kebab, some kind of corn chips with hummus and salsa and a few others. All were flavourless, insipid and often served stone cold. I have had better dips in Gujarati Mexican restaurants! My sangria was too sweet and not in the least bit refreshing.

For our main course I had the Thai curry with corn cakes, which again was completely tasteless. There was not a hint of lemongrass, galangal, lime leaves or any Thai flavour whatsoever. Tasted like palak paneer. The corn cakes were lumpy and undercooked. I sampled some of the other mains which included couscous upma ( a hideous fusion) and prawns in tamarind sauce. The prawns were passable, everything else almost inedible.

My dessert was chocolate devil cake, and very mediocre. The other dessert at the table, dulce de leche icecream with banana bread, was the only saving grace of the entire meal.

If you want to see and be seen by the beautiful people, Tote is probably the place for you. I'd rather have good food at reasonable prices than pretty candles and a cool bar though.

Pathetic food, pathetic service and expensive...

We went to celebrate a birthday.... We made reservations for their 1st seating and were informed that we would be seated in the restaurant.....

When we got there they informed us that there is no space in the restaurant and we will have to make do with the outside dining area..... and we didn't get seated there for another 40 mins.......

Our food didn't show up for another 40 mins.... Which was surprising cause half the dishes on the menu were not available.... the food came out cold.... half the elements mentioned on the menu were not in the dishes.... we had to order our appetizers from the bar menu cause the regular appetizers were not available.... the portion sizes were pathetic.... with 8 people on our table.... not one person must have taken more than 2 bites of their entrees.....

the staff were acting as if they were doing us a favour by serving us......

definately would not go back.....

Disgusting service, way too overpriced

They didn't have half of the items on their menu, and by the way the menu didn't have that many items to choose from in the first place. We ordered 4 portions of pot roasted chicken, and were told that 2 of them turned bad and we have to order something else. There was continuously something falling from the trees above. They couldn't even provide appropriate shelter above the table. Food was okay, nothing great, I have had 100 times better food for less than 1/4th of the prices out here.

What's all the hype about?

This place is totally over-hyped. Whoever is in charge of PR for this place has done a great job - the whole of Mumbai seems to be there every Saturday night! Its quite a nuisance to wait approx 30-45 min to enter. The bar is ok. Did not find anything so impressive about it. Haven't eaten there so can't comment on the food. Overall, would enjoy the experience much more if it wasn't for the long wait and the fact that it gets overcrowded inside.

Thank You!

Reached the plavce, had ants on the table in the courtyard, they refused to change the table, left and went to Olive's instead!
I didnt know "fine dining" meant eating with ants on your table..
I m sure the food is great but if i didnt invite them, the ants shudnt be on my table..

Midtown Mumbai's classiest restaurant and bar

Midtown mumbai, always ignored by restauraters. Rahul has done an amazing job with Tote. The decor is smashing and the menus creative but the food is something to write home about.Eclectic fare indeed, coupled with crisp, at times slow service, which could be excused as I am sure they are still finding their feet.
The bar reminded me of some gothic structure and transported me to the 17th century with all the wood around me. Phew!!! Is that elegant or what??
The only issue which I may be critical about could be , the fragrance of food was permeating the bar air space which may be a turn off. It was for me .......

Other than that,
The attitude was exemplary and the effort was commendable. Smiles were genuine and the performance was fresh and sweet just like their white chocolate fondant.

Another one out of Rahul's bag of goodies, one could die for his show stopper desserts.

Don't believe me , try it!!!

Unfortunately Rabbit wasn't available, it is truly a delicacy, done right. Hopefully it should be available soon.

I fell for the place, Hook, line and Sinker.

Great Food but at a price !

After hearing so much about this new place , finally got to go there!

The restaurant is divided into 3 sitting areas, 2 AC and one which is outside in the open without AC. All three areas seemed nice but we chose the main dining hall.

A run down on what we had and my opinion. Everything we ordered was vegetarian.

Mocktails - Kokum drink and a Fruit punch kinda drink- . The kokum was was very nice and refreshing - different. Fruit punch was the standard one you would get in any restaurant.

Starter - Tiramisu with mushroom and walnut - Excellent - a must try - only grouse being the portion size too small.

Main course - Corn cakes in Thai green curry - Again - Excellent ! - a must try - Thankfully the portion size was big too for this dish !! :)

Dessert - White chocolate fondant - I found it just about OK , even though i have read some reviews raving about it. Also , the portion size is TINY. Feel short changed paying 400 bucks for this and getting a total of 3-4 tablespoons to eat !

The service is very friendly and the chef too was very friendly - a very comfortable experience and not intimidating.

All in all, I would say the food is excellent. Enjoyed everything a lot except for the dessert which I mentioned.

Total bill for one dish of each item mentioned above came to 2200 ( for 2 people ) .

I would surely go again to have the tiramisu mushroom and the corncakes and try some new dishes

Waste of Time

I booked a table for two at 10:00pm (aka the second seating) then I called later to ask if they allow us to bring birthday cakes from outside, which a Tibetan/Nepali girl said we can do so. So I landed at tote at 9:45pm knowing I would wait 15mins but instead I was made to wait 40 mins to say the least and then was told they do not accept cakes from outside but would compensate me by letting me keep my cake in their fridge...oh how kind i thought (pure sarcasism intended) So we went upto the bar had a drink and waited for 40 minutes came back down and was made to wait for another 10 minutes. Finally we were seated by 10:50pm and the waiter tells me that the food will take 40 minutes because the chef is swamped with work...Excuse me? I wonder if they realized I was paying for this meal that was worthless and pathetic. By then I ate whatever came and did not bother to chew anything! The manager with a put on accent apologized for the delay in seating and also said that he would pay a visit after a meal, none was done. Akerkars should be ashamed of this place...nothing like the Indigo!!
In short this was a waste of time and should not be visited unless your going there to get drunk and throw up!

Overpriced and Overhyped

The food is overpriced. Although you will be lectured on the idea of fine dining right after you are seated, little has been done to ensure a wholesome fine dining experience for the customer. The indoor seating is close to the kitchen which often smokes up the entire room. There was a issue of houseflies flying around and settling on the breads. The service staff had no attention for detail. They were constantly running around and forgetting little things like serving the soup spoon long after serving the soup or leaving the chilled beer we ordered on the counter for 10 minutes before actually serving it. So much for a 'fine dining' experience!

That being said, the food selection by itself is well done and does deserve kudos for creativity. The sangria was well made and the soy milk-beetroot soup was delicious. The outdoor seating ambiance is also well done.

However, the utter neglect for the overall dining experience in spite of the exorbitant pricing will not have me or any of my friends and family returning or recommending this restaurant in the future.

Brilliant!!

I am a keen follower of all restaurants of Akerkars but this new place is perhaps their best in terms of size and ambience. The place has a rocking Bar which was crowded on a Wednesday, a serene restaurant with al fresco option and a stunning banquet space with an outdoor option too.
I was at the Bar, the drinks are awesome and the starters are yummy. There are ample choices and portion and pricing are good too. The snacks are very different from Indigo and I love this change (Dal Ghosht, Shammi Kabab etc) Music was wonderful and it kept us engaged and picked up the tempo as the evening progressed.
I will be back to try their restaurant as well and I hope the menu is going to be different there too.
My only grouse was that the toilets for the bar is also at the ground level which is very inconvenient after a few drinks but I am not taking away any stars for that:-)

Awesome!

This massive setup of restaurant/lounge/banquet is defintely going to be the hottest place in the city for a while. Spread across a huge area comprising of a classy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a large private hall for banquets, a huge lounge/bar with double floors (top for pvt parties)..topped with the finest decor and an ambiance that sets you in a different world. Welcome Tote!
Its hard to describe a place which has everything top notch and is as modern as one could imagine it to be. The only con would be its pricing but again the place, crowd, drinks, music - all deserve this pricing. The food is def. v expensive but the drinks are fair priced. Couple of cocktails with some finger food will cost you 1500. The food portion is quite low as well.
However, every minute of my time at Tote had just one description - awesome!

hot new place !

Tote on the turf is the hottest new place in town, barely a week old its the brainchild of Indigo?s Rahul Akerkar. Lavishly laid out the place is like nothing in the city. A massive bar, an indoor section as well as garden seating.

The menu is eclectic going from Thai Curry to Lasagna, the dishes themselves are pretty creative, though the odd one just does not work (just like at Indigo)

We had the mushroom tiramisu which was fantastic, as was the macaroni and veggie lasagna. the other two dishes were just okay.

The wine list is a little limited and they didnt have some of the wines on the list. ill chalk it down to being new born.

the service is friendly, informed and eager to please.
the ambiance is high end and the outlook classy. Dinner for 2 with a cocktail and a glass of wine would run 5000

Compared to indigo this one is more about the new modern Bombay rather than he old world charm of its older brother. no complaints though, if they play it right it will be a winner.
