Perfect!

I went to Olio restaurant for the dinner. There was a special price: 1800Rs for 5 meals. It is really perfect. The decor was beautiful, the service very fast and the waiters very nice. We ate a lot (to be honest 5meals was too much...) BUT the food was excellent and was really tasty. Special note for the tiramisu which was excellent! Thank you Novotel, your place is a little France, an a paradize for french people living in India.

Go for the Italian, avoid the Humus

Went here last night for my sister-in-law's birthday. The decor is nice, not cramped. and they have pizza oven where you can view your pizza being made. The hostess was friendly and gave us a nice, big table. The service from the other staff too was pretty good - no complaints there.
We started of by calling for some humus and pita bread and I'll be frank here - it was probably one of the worst humus I've had. It looked good, but tasted nothing like what its supposed to. We sent it back and they gave us another plate, but that wasn't good either. Maybe it was a bad batch, but I'd probably avoid ordering it again the next time.
OK, the humus was all that was bad. Thankfully, the rest of our order was delicious. From the pizzas, pastas, to the red velvet cake - it was all good. The red velvet cake was devoured within a minute, literally!
All in all, apart from the humus, we had some good food and a nice experience.

Pathetic Place

It's just that Olio is in Novotel & has a beautiful beach lcoation that drives us there. The food is hoorible. Service even worse. Just 1 person at the counter & the sane person serving guests in the inside restaurant. Very bad service. Even basics of Italian food like Oragano, Chilly flakes, Tobasco were served upon asking !
Please dont ever waste your mony or time on this place.

hey i liked this restaurant food very much,we tried dolma it was the same as u can find in turkey and greece, tabouleh was not that good, they used curly parsley which a no-no and it was salty!we tried moroccan lamb and okra it was amazing!definitely recommended.their pizza was ok..we drank wine which is very pricey i think!but we sat outside and ambiance was thumbs up!if u dont mind paying too much for drinks just go for food and damage ll be around 2000-3000 rp for 2.

tiramisu

went to this place in june......but was highly disappointed with the food........expected much better standards from novotel. as mentioned in the last review everythin was low on salt (i'm used to eatin pretty bland food thanks to my family & that's y i probably enjoy italian more than indian) but this place really disappointed me....don't wanna mention about the starters or main course...........highly avoidable.....tasteless stuff. pizza was thin crust but tasteless........wasted atleast 1/2 of the pizza.
only saving grace was the dessert - tiramisu which was perfect.

Avoidable

Almost everything was low on salt. Both the soups we ordered were left unfinished. Starters were strictly OK. We ordered the pizza (based on reviews on burrp) and they were good but not exceptional (as expected from a restaurant of this category). The only saving grace were the Prawns which were very good.

Yum Italian food

Went for a family dinner at Olio. Had heard and read great reviews about this place and so wanted to try it out first hand, and boy I was not disappointed. There are a few cribs, but I'll get to them later.

First the good part - the food was absolutely lip-smacking. We started with some bruschetta, stuffed baked garlic mushrooms a Spanish pomodoro soup. All that was good. Even the fresh bread that was served was soft and good.

For the main course we ordered a spinach and mushroom(?) pizza, a formaggio pizza, a cream sauce pasta and one spinach filled ravioli. That too was cooked just right.

The cribs about this place are one - that they only serve the Indian wines by the glass, for the rest you have to buy the bottle, two - you have to ask for olive oil. It was given promptly, but shouldn't it have been on the table in the first place?

The place was not that packed considering that it was a Friday evening. My recommendation would be to go there for their food.

It's very romantic

We choose to spend our anniversary dinner at Olio. The setting outside is very romantic.
Food & drinks met our expectations in terms of quality.
The waiter was very attentive. Post dinner we choose to lay down at one of the pool side beds, it was amzing. full marks for this nice place.

Second Time Lucky....

Had been to this place when it had just opened and was very disappointed. But boy have things changed. Went again after a lot of people recommended it. They have two sections now - the outside poolside is romantic and quiet but we opted for the AC section. They can do a bit more to spruce up the inside section.

Food: The first served us a bread basket with 2 pita breads and another soft delicious bread. This was accompanied by an orange tomato dip(not sure what it was), green pesto and another white dip. The orange one and pesto were really good. I liked the bowl they served the bread in.

We ordered bruschetta, Margherita pizza and veg tangine. The bruschetta was amazing. This is how it is meant to be - fresh tomatoes, drizzle of olive oil and herbs. Divine. The pizza was among the best I've had. Most places you go to the pizzas taste the same but here I savored each mouthful. The tangine was a brown sauce with vegetables served with couscous. It was decent though the sauce could have been better. Or maybe just overshadowed...

Overall you get a feel of very authentic food that is so full of flavor that even those who prefer Indianized cheesy versions would love it.

Service: The service was very good and upto the mark. Just what one would expect.

Damages: Rs 1500 for a starter, pizza and tangine.

This is definitely on my regular visit list especially for the pizzas.

Some excellent arguments...

First, the décor. I would recommend everyone to eat outside for dinner. The setting is really nice and the view on the swimming pool and palm trees makes it perfect for a cosy and warm evening.

The service was professional, and friendly. Nothing less, nothing more.

The food was awesome:
- from the bread & dips (good red pesto, OKayish camembert sauce, and green pesto to die for) served as accompaniments - to the best melt-in-your-mouth Ricotta Gnocchi
- not to mention the most airy Mascarpone Yogurt with strawberries dessert.

The place is reasonably priced, and you could get away with very full stomachs on a romantic dinner for slightly less than Rs. 2500 (without wine).

Pretty Good

I agree with Alana on this one people.

The food there was wonderful, specially the pasta and pizza. Gazpacho was fine, but only the deserts were strictly ok.

The open-pool-facing ambience is really awesome.
All-in-all amazing, but little expensive. Appt for special days.

Just delicious

I disagree with all other reviews and I really have the feeling we have not been to the same restaurant.

Welcoming : was friendly and warming

Decor : was cosy and intimate

Music : was modern and dynamic

Food : Apetizers were great, please check out the feta cheese or the humus which are so fresh and authentic (seems like they're home made). We ordered the skewers (the chicken meat was so tender, it was a real pleasure). Spaghettis and pizza are delicious
Desserts : check out the chili chocolate mousse, this dessert is dying for.

I am a foreigner and I hardly find very good Mediterranean restaurant in Mumbai (maybe my Indian fellows didn't like it because they are not used to these authentic tastes). I can tell you that Olio is one of the best I tried, authentic and fresh. Will definitely come back again.

Oh-Oh!

A slippery wooden floor, a splash of orange and a bit of red, open kitchens and a wine rack taking up an entire wall make up the rather disappointing ambience. The sunny smiles of the efficient staff manage to light up the rather drab, and surprisingly noisy, atmosphere.
Their fascination for olives comes through with the image being embroidered on the napkin, embossed on the plate and the actual thing being added to every dish we ordered.

Hummus (Rs 185) the hummus suspiciously tasted like it had come out of a can.
Penne Chicken (Rs 630) If you want to find out how a restaurant can go wrong with a simple dish of penne with chicken in cheese sauce, come to Olio.
Chicken and Pickled Lemon Tagine (Rs 650) served with couscous. Ho-hum?
Raspberry Chocolate Bombe (Rs 295) Summon Hercule Poirot, I want to find out where the raspberry disappeared to, from this dessert!

Olio was hugely disappointing. From the dull ambience, to the below par food and its presentation, nothing seemed to impress. The only saving graces; the able and cheerful service and the dessert trolley which they bring around at the end of the meal, for you to choose your dessert from.

Can do Better

I had a lot of expectations when I heard Olio was opening but it turned out to be ok. Its a nice place to go, easy to get a table with a private dining area as well.

Food: I must say I was a bit disappointed seeing the menu.I was expecting more greek or turkish dishes. The Ravioli was decent, risotto ok, gazpacho avoidable and of course one cant go wrong with hummus. The is a complimentary bread basket consisting largely of pita bread with pesto and some other dips which were the saving grace.

Service: Impecable

Damages: The dishes are priced at Rs 185 to 600. Its not really worth the price you are paying.

I hope the spruce up the menu with some more interesting items though am definately going back to taste the dolmas and tagine

Worst italian food

The food in olio is far from edible. Based on the newspaper reviews we had gone for dinner, but regretted ever moment. The prices are very steep for the quality of food. The baked red snapper (which we tried based on the review) was very bland, and very sour. They seem to love olives and put them in every dish, priced at 750/- its not even worth 50 bucks. The chicken tagine and the meat ball tagine was very salty. Better to stay away from this restaurant and save ur money for a better meal elsewhere.

Back to Basics

The Mediterranean restaurant at Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach, Olio comes from the word for "oil" in Italian. The name was chosen by Mr. Heinz Egli, General Manager of the hotel, who also conceptualised the food and décor. Located at the ground level, Olio goes back to the basics with serves simple, yet authentic Mediterranean cuisine and jazz music.

Right from the understated contemporary decor to the simple yet classy table settings, the eatery embodies modern-day aesthetics. Going away from the staid fine dining concept, the restaurant presents a gourmet experience that invites participation and camaraderie.

Open kitchens and wood fired ovens make the cuisine the star of Olio, while at the same time showcasing for the diners the fine art that is Mediterranean food.

Each exquisite dish on the meticulously planned menu has been created to be explored with a companion. For all those who have traveled to the beautiful countries lining the Mediterranean, this seafacing restaurant will be reminiscent of the tastes and aromas that are symbolic of the region. An extensive selection of Tapas and Tagine; Turkish delicacies and a range of pastas and pizzas created with inspiration from kitchens in Italy, make it perfect for a casual luncheon. Apart from the main indoor dining area, guests could also choose to enjoy an al fresco epicurean experience at the poolside.

A glass of the finest wines from the extensive wine list, coupled with a variety of authentic Italian, Grecian, Spanish and Turkish cuisine with the right touch of colours and music basically sums up the experience. Don't miss the Chef's special Paella and Shawarma.
