The Dhaba indeed !!!

It was on a "special" occasion that we visited Pratap Da Dhaba. My cousin was introducing her boyfriend to us for the 1st time and it was he who chose this place for the venue. My other cousin, who's her brother, and I, were already playing "protectors" and being all khadoos (= disapproving) about the whole issue and were dissing the BF on our way to meet him, grumbling about him choosing (coz he's a Northie) a North Indian restaurant. The fact that we like North Indian food and this place totally blew us away is a different matter altogether, but we guys enjoyed playing jerks and in making her nervous & literally dread the whole moment :D !!!

The place from outside, for a fleeting moment, resembles a tavern from the Wild West with the name on a wooden plaque and a wooden door. Once you enter inside, you're greeted by this big L-shaped courtyard with many plain wooden tables & cane chairs lined up next to each other. Some tables also had the typical "dhaba cots" instead of the chairs and the walls resembled village walls with Punjabi phrases written on them. Finally, Punjabi-style dressed mannequins complete the whole visual experience. But it being a hot, sultry day, we chose the cool environs of the restaurant over the typical dhaba experience of the courtyard.

We ordered Paneer Malai Tikkay and Chicken Tikka to go with the Jaljeera. The P.M.T was a brilliant choice with perfect seasoning and soft paneer pieces that simply melt in your mouth. The Chicken Tikka fared quite well too on the taste front. Jaljeera, we felt, nicely complemented our choice of starters and rounded off a good beginning to our meal.

Moving on to the Main Course, we all chose different breads- Roti, Naan, Roomali etc and based on the BF's strong recommendation, the Butter Chicken. [By this time, after having had good starters, my cousin & I were already warming up to the guy and decided to let him lead the way with the ordering :D]. We also decided to order Dal Makhani based on a hunch and in the end, what amazing choices they turned out to be. The Butter Chicken is undoubtedly the real deal with an ideally thick, cashewy & buttery gravy containing soft, succulent chicken pieces while the Dal Makhani was creamy and tasted fantastic. We ditched our plan to order some rice and continued with our finger-licking "roti-curry" experience.

The saying that "the best is served for the last" could not have been any truer in our case. The complimentary Paan Shots and Jalebi-Rabri that we ordered turned out to be the icing on the cake, especially the latter. Hot Jalebis dipped in sweet, heavenly (viscous) Rabri... mmm... just simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious !!! In the end, not only did the food win our hearts (big time !!), but the BF was well set on his way to do the same. [Maybe it was his plan all along, knowing our weakness for good food :P. If yes, sinister, but smart :D !!!]

Verdict :- Highly recommended for some fantastic Punjabi fare. Though on the expensive side, positive VFM considering the excellent taste of food.

Indecent Staff - Pathetic service - Average Food

I used to go to this place 7-8 years back. Thought it would be equally good even today. So went their for a dinner with my wife today. Ordered a shikanji, sweet lassi, chicken tikka, chicken adraki, butter naat etc. The food was average (at max), shikanji and lassi were not at all up to the mark. At last when I swiped my SBI credit card for the bill, I immediately got an sms that the requisite amount has been debited. However, due to certain technical issues their machine was not able to disperse the receipts. I showed them the message however I was virtually abused/forced/manhandled to pay again. As a result we had to pay double the amount for the average food that we ate and above all their rude behaviour acted as a mood spoiler. Would never recommend anyone to go their.

Worth a try!

Had been here for an office dinner last week, and boy what a treat we had!
Being Thursday night, it was full to the brim! Thank God that we had booked in advance. The whole feel of the restaurant is to give you a dhaba feel with statues of people dressed in regional clothes and Punjabi scribbled on the walls.

You will mostly find here families having a good time over a hearty meal. The space is huge, and can accommodate around 100 people at a time. What I think they missed was that waiters were in formal clothes. To give a full dhaba feelins, they could dressed in regional clothes too.. Just a suggestion :)

Now coming to the service and ambiance. So don't go here expecting sophisticated seating and ambiance. The whole feel is rustic and they try and maintain it. The food is served in steel thalis like in dhaba. The service is quick and attentive.

FOOD: Its quite good and likeable. Being an office dinner, had loads to try, so lets go by it one by one!

1. Hara Bhara Kebab: One of the best starters I had there. Make sure you have this, if you are having starters
2. Tandoori aloo: a little spicy to my taste, but done to perfection
3. Tandoori Mushrrom: Had the same taste, but these were more on a softer bite
4. Paneer Tikka: Please try and avoid. Though the paneer was fresh, but it was hell spicy and not very tasty.
5. Dal Makhni: Good taste, and was rich in taste, but the consistency was something it lacked.
6. Kofta(Pratap da dhaba special) : Must must try. soft koftas in palak gravy are just a treat in the mouth!
7. Mix veg: I can make better mix veg at home. Period.
8. Garlic Naan: Too greasy, but well cooked.

and once you are done with dinner , they give you complimentary Paan Shots. For me this was the highlight of the dinner. Simply awesome. Make sure you do not leave before having it. (Ask for more if you can ;) )

In all a hearty dinner, well spent evening and delicious paan shots! :) Do give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

PS: It is moderate to expensive.

the best North Indian food in town.

I have been to this restaurant many times. Have never written a review about it. The food out here is one of the best I have eaten till date. The dal makhani is mind blowing out here. One should especially try out the lassi too. The ambience gives you a perfect feeling of the dhaba which you can't get in the city. I would suggest people who has a taste bud of North Indian food should try this out. It's worth the money. Burrrrp.

Dal makhni with no dal

i was craving some good indian food and despite this place being far from our place, decided to go there because we used to visit this place a lot around two years back and i love their chicken adraki and dal makhni. (Husband wanted to go to a place nearby which serves awesome food). anyway the place was packed but we got a table inside. the place needs some serious renovation. seats and tables were dirty, so were the walls. server had no place to move and they kept bumping into my chair every time. anyway since we drove all the way decided to order. we ordered chicken adraki and dal makhani. just to make sure its the same dish i asked,' chicken adraki has yellow gravy." the server said yes. anyway when we got our order, i saw two yellow coloured dishes, one more brighter than the other. to my surprise the more yellow one was dal makni. now everybody knows a dal makni is not supposed to look like that but what was unbelievable was that there was no dal in dal makhni. it was laden with cream(hence the color). i told the server and he took it away and got it back with maybe 15 morsels of dal instead of the previous 10. disgusting. even chicken was artery clogging, cream laden with 4 small pieces of chicken.
my theory is, we reached late at night around 11:15 and by that time they were running short on dal so they added cream to it. cheating customers like this, not acceptable. from someone who has had authentic dhaba food, which is supposed to be fresh and yummy, i have to say this meal was an insult to dhaba food. wish i had gone to other place.

Best Punjabi Food

This place probably offers the best Punjabi food in town. The starters as well as the main course dishes are very good with a special mention of the daal makhani which is loaded with butter (ghee). However the daal makhani here is not something that you should miss. It has some very good offering of Punjabi Food and offers alcohol as well. The place offers a unique dish, viz. Vodka Pani Puri. Even the desserts are very good. It offers one of the best Indian/Punjabi dessert options. The place is set up in a typical dhaba format. An ideal place for an outing with family or friends. Awesome Food, Awesome Ambiance, Very Good Service...

greatness is all in the past.

the Dhaba, i first went there in 2005, and been a regular since. but over a period of time the taste has deteriorated. there was a time when we used to spend long hours over beers and kebabs followed by dinner, but now its just kaali dal, tandoori chicken and naan. these three dishes hav been best in this place and are still a great deal. not saying that rest of the food is bad, it just didn't remain as special as these three. and on top of everything, waiters make mistakes while taking order, and serve wrong portions on table.. even after mentioning specific modifications about orders.

Typical Punjabi fare in typical Punjabi setting!

A fancy Dhaba-like ambiance, coupled with a spacious AC section as well, the place is the moderned version of Dhabas and has a fancy seating outside as well as inside. The food not surprisingly is typical Punjabi fare complete with Butter Chicken, Butter Naans and all! The service is prompt although you're likely to face waiting on a Saturday or a Sunday evening. The place is well priced, complete with Punjabi fare and alcohol too. A good pick, indeed!

Heavenly Punjabi food

Awesome authentic Punjabi food!! My husband and I have frequented this place a lot during our courtship days. The food here is to-die-for yummy and quite reasonably priced. The decor is pretty neat. We have mostly sat outdoors where you have khatiyas, life-size Punjabi figurines, et al. Love the designs of the menu. Their tandoori chicken and other chicken kebabs are very yummy. Also, the paan shot they serve in the end is great. A total value for money.

On a team lunch, I had suggested coming here and my colleagues were absolutely happy with the choice. This time we sat indoors and Sanjeev Kapoor happened to be sitting at the next table. So you know now how this place really is!

A must try for all food lovers in Mumbai!

Dhaba revisited

I had done a quick basic review some time ago. However, felt not enough justice was done. Saturday, gathering for a impromptu celebration at a friends place, unanimously decided to try out the place again.

Starters:
Paneer malai tikkay – it was a bit kadak, should have been soft melt in the mouth kind; Makai sheekh kabab – very nice, just the right consistency and juicy makai.
Chicken malai tikkay were excellent. They make them with a coating of egg and accompanied by green chutney and onions were just perfect. A must try.

Mains:

Chholey masala – very good masala but extremely oily and the chholey were hard; Aloo gobhi – very nice, just the right masala and the pieces diced medium and not the ‘jungle type’ that restaurants seem to prefer. The find was Methi makai malai – not too sweet, just divine.

Chicken dhania adraki – very nice, soft chicken, marinated well, though the gravy looked and tasted similar to methi makai malai.

The assorted breads – namak ajwain paratha, rumali roti, lachcha & pudhina paratha were pretty nice, though wheat offerings were missing.

Pulao chholey de hare pyaz de was very good, a different unique taste and went extremely well with the boondi raita. Here also there was the hard chholey problem (guess the cook was having an off day on this one or they ran out of chholey)

The free Kheer was well liked, whilst the jalebi though nice in taste was burnt/brown, something I am extremely particular about.

Pathetic Dhaba

A shady place with no proper directions to reach. Wanted to celebrate my birthday with some punjabi food, and stumbled upon this place - Well as loud the ambiance is, we were hoping the food would be loud too. Much to our disappointment, this over the top expensive place did not live upto the expectations.

Most of the food we ordered was half cooked or too much of salt, upon protesting the waiter takes the dish back in the kitchen and comes out with the same dish in 2 mins which he took 45 mins to prepare in the first place so God knows what he did there....

Pet Khush to Dil Khush

No Parking Place and Heavy Crowds on week-ends, hence the long waiting periods are my 2 major complaints against Pratap’s.
For the rest, they have not given me a chance to complain about as yet.

The indoors have a Dhaba like décor with lanterns and matki hanging from the wooden beams overhead. Sitting arrangement is a little low with short chairs. If you sit outside, you have the charpoy but mosquitoes may trouble you. But all this vanishes when the food starts to arrive.

We ordered:
1. Makai Seekh / Paneer Malai Tikke – Soft and Fresh Paneer
2. Fish Amritsari / Chicken Tikka – Amazing Boneless Fish and Very Good Chicken Tikka
3. Dal Makhani / Baigan ka Bharta – Dal is rich and very good, I love Baigan and can have it anytime of the day or night.
4. Chicken Adraki Dhaniya – Nicely marinated and soft meat.
5. Laccha Paratha / Ajwaini Roti – Soft n Nice
6. Jalebi with Rabdi – Yuummmmy

The Pan Shots they offer gives the finishing touch to the meal but I didn't have it because I wanted the taste of the food to linger in my mouth for a bit more.

Service is quick and efficient; the waiters are well behaved and give their suggestions as to the portions of order. Quantity is also good and also priced reasonably; value for money.

If you love North Indian [read: Punjabi cuisine], you visit Pratap’s: The Dhaba.

Excellent Dhaba!!!

Have been here with my husband & best friend. The menu is limited so we can choose quickly want we want to have :) We called for chicken which was juicy and tender and had just the right blend of spices. I loved the salad which they provided with their special chat masala and we finished almost 2-3 plates of the salad. The best was their Dal Khichdi. Not to forget they give pan shots complimentary. Total VFM and a place that could be vised over and over again.

CHAK DE PRATAP!!!!!!

An amazing place to have a host of Punjabi delicacies. You name it & Pratap will serve you the best. Right in the heart of all Mumbaikars, its a nice place for family get-togethers with me having celebrated a number of occasions like my nephew's naamkaran, birthday parties and lots more. My favourite is Plalak Paneer with Naans n Pineapple Raita. Only problem visiting Pratap is lack of adequate parking space around as its full always and that you have to wait for quite some time to occupy the cosy ambiance and feast on Pratap's lip smacking and stomach filling food. !!!

Good Punjabi food & nice dinning experience

Pratap's: The Dhaba is an ode, a celebration to the Punjab and its gastronomic delights. It offers a diverse and traditional fare of authentic Punjabi cuisine that is utterly delicious.
We were group of 4 went there to be welcomed by 15 mins waiting as it was weekend busy dinning time. Valet car parking available.(Visited on 4th Aug'12.)

The ambience is theme oriented, the A/c & Non A/c sections have the similar tariff, but we preferred sitting in the open as once you seated, you would be able to appreciate the conceptual restaurant , the seating arrangements, charpoys, country side lanterns, trees, mud painted walls, wells, wooden furnitures and accompanied by courteous attendants for orders.
We ordered Paneer Malai tikkiya, Chicken Dhaniya Adrakhi, Chicken Bawarchi da pasand, and assorted bread.
The food was hot, spicy with perfect blend of aroma and flavor that stirs your senses and satisfy your appetite for good yet authentic punjabi food in mumbai.
Panner was so soft that it just melts in your mouth.:)

Not to forget Jalebi with Rabadi & Hot Gulab Jamun. Complimentary Paan shots was fabulous.

A bit higher side on the pocket but i dont mind splurging on food which is so tasty. Highly recommended!

Dhaba Oye..

Last night had planned on a quiet lunch with a cousin & uncle & we decided on this place. The ambience is ok, the A/c & Non A/c sections have the same tariff, but since it was a dhaba, we preferred sitting in the open.
Their munchies which is spiced up onion & roasted Garlic which is also spiced is really good. We have chicken achari kebab for starters which was neat. Main course was not so exciting with the recommended Chicken Dhania Adkraki (yellow gravy) & Chicken Bavarchi Spl.
The best part of the meal, was the betel leaf milk shake which they serve in a gin shot glass. It was simply yummy. You need not tip additionally, as they charge 5% service charges apart from the appropriate service tax. That should take care of the tip.

Delicious food, Must Visit!!

Had heard a lot of good reviews of this place from my friends. When I visited, I was satisfied beyond what I had heard. The food is absolutely a delight. The music is apt and ambience not very extravagant, but very very dhabha-like.

Almost anything we tried, leaves behind a lasting impression. The Paneer achari tikka and tandoori chatpate mushrooms left us asking for more. Do not miss their perfect chaas and chura papad. We went all out hogging makke di roti, sarson da saag and rajma chaawal. The naan and ajwain rotis were hot and tasty.
The complimentary paan shots in the end was an icing on the cake.
Next time round we plan to hog in the non-veg fare :)

Must must must try!

For authentic North Indian Food....

The hallmark of a good restaurant is not great taste but great consistency (dear lord i sound like a thought of the day quote but nevertheless) I have visited Pratap's Dhaba thrice, once in 2007, in 2009 and last month and what was amazing was that the taste did not change, nor did the rush and nor did the little things that made the place special. Tucked in a small by-lane of oshiwara, prataps dhaba looks more like a village fair in bhatinda than a restaurant in suburban Mumbai. With its traditional lighting and charpais and wooden tables the promoters have done an excellent job of bringing in a rustic feel to the place and at the same time and more importantly not overdoing it . For the past 5 years their menu has been printed on a wooden hand fan (the ones made of cane usually in real life). For accompaniments they still give you crushed onion with lemon and chat masala. Now this crushed onion is what caught my eye and i need to speak about it. For those used to eating north Indian food with onions. Usually the small vinegar onions are at the top of the list. However in traditional punjab they take a a whole unpeeled onion and crush it between their palms ( for those with limited strength and urbaniites such as me, i use a heavy tong and kitchen slab for the same). What this does is that it releases all the onion juices and traps it within the crushed onion. Once you peel the onion what you get a nice squishy onion with all juices intact. Coming back to the dhaba...it is this onion with lovely lemon and chat masala that makes for the perfect accompaniment. Being a veggie i would recommend two paneer dishes highly. First the starter- the paneer achari tikka which is an excellent deviation to the over killed paneer tikka with the charcoal flavor. This achari variation combines the smokiness of the bbq as well as the strong flavor of punjabi pickle masala to give a wonderful bite sized delicacy. Also i would highly recommend the paneer dhaniya adraki as the main dish, simply because the gravy is unlike any. Its not a onion, garlic, tomato based gravy which tastes the same across dishes but a painstakingly nice mixture of coriander and ginger cooked in cream. The combination is unique and hence the taste. The dal in the restaurant is slightly below par as i was expecting the dal makhani to be very good. It was good but too much cream spoilt the flavor and made me feel "full" after only a couple of spoonfuls. In end there is a wonderful surprise of cold liquefied "saunf" or fennel drink which will blow your mind off. For one of the best authentic gravies and north Indian food in Mumbai i would recommend prataps dhaba highly.

One more word of advice. Order the choley and rice in afternoon. For dinner stick to the paneer and you wont feel disappointed.

Good quality, difficult to find location

The quality of food here is to die for. It has a freshness to it, a somewhat different taste than usual. The lighting and service can be improved a lot though. Finding this location was a huge task for me. I followed the location mentioned on map which was incorrect and I'd be happy if the location is corrected on map.

Dhabha kinda food

I had done a quick basic review some time ago. However, felt not enough justice was done. Saturday, gathering for a impromptu celebration at a friends place, unanimously decided to try out the place again. And home delivery it was.

Starters:
Paneer malai tikkay - it was a bit kadak, should have been soft melt in the mouth kind; Makai sheekh kabab - very nice, just the right consistency and juicy makai. (yeah, yeah I know, kebabs cannot be vegetarian)
Chicken malai tikkay were excellent. They make them with a coating of egg and accompanied by green chutney and onions were just perfect. A must try out.

Mains:

Chholey masala - very good masala but extremely oily and the chholey were hard; Aloo gobhi - very nice, just the right masala and the pieces diced medium and not the 'jungle type' that restaurants seem to prefer. The find was Methi makai malai - not too sweet, just divine.

Chicken dhania adraki - very nice, soft chicken, marinated well, though the gravy looked and tasted similar to methi makai malai.

The assorted breads - namak ajwain paratha, rumali roti, lachcha & pudhina paratha were pretty nice, though wheat offerings were missing.

Nice place for some good food

Like the place and although its not so authentic nowadays but who isnt killed by success. They still survived, and still serve good food to eat. Love their Aloo Tikki and mashed onions and makkan (which earlier was free but now charged heavily). Being a Veg person, still get good food to eat and decent service on cards.

Wholesome fare

Went here for lunch. Started with some masala soda and starter - khatti-meethi gobhi. The starter tasted strongly of tomato ketchup and wasn't impressive at all. The complimentary spiced onions and fried garlic however quickly vanished off the table. For mains, we ordered rotis with an amritsari alu. It was rich, flavored and yummy!
The only downside was that it was so filling we had no place for dessert. Would love to go back here, particularly for the fried garlic!

Pind like feel

Talk about the feel of the place or the food or the people, its just absolute punjabi. And this coming from a punjabi who has been eating the tadka for 23 years over and over.

The taste is not all that different to be honest, the spices used more or less the same. It is the presentation that is just a plain & simple catch.
I took my clients from London to this food joint and now they know of punjabi cuisine from the taste and flavor they had here.

The food is moderately priced and the tequila like shot in the end is a craving that lasts. The garlic served before the meal is the love of my life.

I guess I heard music too the last time I went, but may be I was just playing some in my head.
if you stay in town or suburbs and traveling to dhabas on the highways is not like an option, then this is where you need to be!!!

Finger licking delicious

This is an evergreen restaurant for me. When we can't think of a new place to go, we come to Pratap - The Dhaba. Food is awesome and so is the service.
Ambience is warm and welcoming, with a nice crowd as well. Though they also serve alcohol, I've never wanted to drink here, the food takes all my attention :)
Veg and non-vegetarians, it's a delight for both. The most popular dish and also the chef's special is Dhaniya adraki Paneer/Chicken.

Well if you want a nice warm place to sit with friends for a casual dinner, this is the place to go. You will enjoy your dinner, surely.

Best Butter Chicken in the suburbs

The title says it all. I have been a regular customer of Dhaba since the past 8 years and they have been consistent in their quality and service.
You wouldn't find more authentic makhni daal and butter chicken anywhere in the suburbs. Add to it, pyaaz "mukka mar ke" and meethi lassi and you'll be forgiven for believing that you are sitting in an actual dhaba somewhere in the middle of Punjab.
The only minor flaw is in their home delivery service which takes as much as 2 hours to deliver to Lokhandwala on a weekend.
But overall, a must try for lovers of good Punjabi/Frontier cuisine.

Good food, delicious. we sat in the air-conditioned section. Mosquitoes were feasting on our blood. They were not really very organised. A lot of waiters moving around, so much so that you forget what waiter was serving you a while ago. The waiters are not very proactive. The place gives bad service and has great ambiance.

good food very bad service(home delivery)

Ordered Parcel food from the restaurant where the order taker told me that it would take 1 hour and 15 minutes to which i agreed. finally the food arrived after 1 hour and 30 minutes. Out of the seven items which i had ordered they did not deliver one and had charged me for it. When i called the restaurant up to inquire about the same, they kept on passing the phone from one person to another. i had to hold for atleast 10 minutes when finally someone came over the phone they told me that it would take another 35 - 40 min. They expected to wait for almost a full two hours before i could have my food. I have been ordering food from here for quite some time and there are no complains about the quality of food. They they keep making mistakes and are sure to lose patrons like that.

AmAzing!!

One Word for this place-Simply Superb!

Ambiance
As you enter the place, the khats and wooden table give you that roadside feeling. Went to the place on sunday without prior booking . The manager welcomed us but said there is place only in smoking area. Never mind..said our mind. As we went through the place, the aroma of freshly cooked rotis was mesmerizing. We became too excited to try out this place.

Service
It was prompt! We quickly placed our orders for the starters. We were just two of us. Both of us non veg lovers!

Food
Starters
The usual -Tandoori chicken. Soft and tender chicken. Roasted to perfection. Tasted amazing with green chutney and lemon on top!5 Star!
Main Course
Chicken Bawarchi di Pasand- Suggested by the person who took our order, it was delightful.
Dal Makhani- What can I say? 6 out of 5 star!!! The colour was not black, but a bit white indicating cream or white butter. The taste was simply awesome. I am in mumbai since 6 years, and I can say this one is the best ever here. Nothing but out of the heaven!!
Naan and Roomali roti to go with it. Wishing our appetite never ended!

Finished the meal with a glass of Sweet Lassi each. And I must say, it was again awesome. We usully get extra thick lassi in mumbai everywhere, but this one was just like my mother makes! :)Loved it!!

The waiter came and asked us about the desserts. I had planned to have jalebi, but was too full to try it! Anyways Next time!!

Price:
Price is moderate. 850 for 2 including all taxes.Looking at the place(oshiwara) and the food,it was worth!Would surely come back here again. Wish I can go back to Andheri West now!!

The DHABHA is ..wait for it....LEGENDARY!:)

Yummm..mmy. Go to this Dhaba and try out their Chawla’s Special chicken. You will not want to stop eating and probably not need a finger bowl as well, if like me you end up licking your fingers clean. When I think about it the taste of that creamy chicken gravy is still lingering in my imagination. I would love to try my hand at making it one day, but don’t worry I don’t I will be able to unleash the mystery behind this Chawla’s special recipe. I think I will have to bribe the chef for that.

Used to be great a couple of years ago but the last couple of visits over the last 6 months shows the food quality not as great as before and the service deteriorating. Okayish.. this place is Overyhyped

This place I feel is overhyped and overrated, the service here I find is pathetic and the food aint good either. The Non-veg starters I ordered was chewy and undercooked, the gravies were oily and heavy on stomach....
For all that the prices are steep too.

Ambience: 4/5 (Made up rustic look)
Service: 3/5 (Very Slow and unresponsive)
Food: 3/5 (Oily , undercooked lacks consistency)
Prices: 2/5 (Not worth the price, steep prices)

Could get better.

My previous 2 visits to this Dhaba - close to a year back - was very good...the food was fantastic and so was the entire experience. This time it was mixed.

Firstly the inside AC section is just too cramped up. And considering May summer in Mumbai, sitting outside was definitely out of the question. Inside where a table of 5 would be perfect they have close to 8-9.

Now to food -

We ordered -

Bharwa Aloo - Starter
Dal Makhni
Paneer Tikka Masala
Veg Raita
1 Garlic Naan
1 Roti
1 Laccha Paratha
1 Fresh Lime Soda
1 Jalebi

Total tab- 1108

Starter itself was not upto the mark. It was almost cold. :-(

Food was great...though Garlic Naan was well below average. Hardly roasted and hardly any garlic.

Jalebi was fantastic, thin and crispy! Yummy!

Paan shots as always a welcome drink to end the meal!

Considering the price this place needs a small fix.

Cheers!

best indian food in Mumbai

I am a north indian and have been staying in Mumbai for past 1 year now and what i had missed was the taste of North Indian food, which i discovered at the Pratap's.

I have tried many restaurants like copper chimney, Rajdhani, urban tadka, to name a few but all these lacked in something which is the authenticity of the food.

a chef by profession i can say that the food here is the best best north indian food you can taste in mumbai. Hats off to the chef. Keep it going and keep cooking good food.

dHABA DOWN THE DRAIN

I remember the time when a new place came up in oshiwara called the DHABA that reminded you of punjab The land of hospitality, the freshest food available in road side dhabas just keeps you going gaga about the experience. GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN THEY MADE YOU FEEL AT HOME, I GUESS MORE THAN THE ATMOSPHERE IT WERE THE PEOPLE WHO BUILT THE PLACE. WITH THE OLD MANAGER LEAVING WHO INSISTED TO TAKE YOUR FEEDBACK BEFORE YOU MADE IT TO THE BILL ARE GONE. OLD STALE FOOD IS ALWYAS THERE TO UPSET YOUR MOOD AND THEN TUMMY!!! cockroach on the table

I went with a friend as he was insisting on this place. Had been here years back, it was ok.
BUT this time, there was a cockroach on my table running around. My friend killed it with the tissue and told the manager but all that the manager said was that 'kar sakte hai sir?'

DO you think that the name can do all the needful? The food needs to be hygienic with quality as well. The chicken was shredded into large chunks but quality of the jeera rice was terribly bad.
Haven't been to any restaurant serving such low quality of food at exorbitant rates for it.
Would never recommend anyone to go there.TOTAL DAMAGE OF MONEY

Shit Service !!!! But Good food...

Most of my friends like this joint, the food is the closest possible to Authentic North Indian Cuisine.

Unfortunately, the service & the staff has zero training on hospitality. Even the managers are very rude & arrogant.

I'd gone on a weekend with 3 of my friends, the place was 1/2 empty - only the entrance tables were occupied. We wanted to sit comfortable since e had a few bags on us. We asked for a for a specific table that was empty, but was for 6 people. First the waiter refused, that they were not allowed to give it to us. We could see 4 people sitting on a table for 6.

Then came the order taker (sub manager) - Even he refused saying we only give to 6 people even if it is empty. We said, either you give us the table or we leave.

He then spoke to his head manager (some Mr Shaqeel) usually seen in a white shirt & red tie & came back to offer us a secluded table @ end of restaurant. Having less choice & being really hungry we took it.

Minutes after we sat, they offered the same table to a group of foreigners (4 ppl @ table of 6) - On being asked why the distinction ? He asked us not hold him responsible for it. We asked to speak to the head. But No one came up & the waiters served with bit of arrogance.

The food was definitely nice - it was the only good part of our visit. But we are definitely not visiting this place anymore for the service offered. Rather order a take-away because we like the food.

Hey Guys...
This place serves awesome Punjabi food - both veg and non-veg is delicious.

Whenever we feel like having punjabi food out, we think of this place for sure.

Not very expensive. Seating is typical north indian dhaba type in the outside section with khatiya and charpayi. For those we want AC, they have inside section. I prefer outside as it gives a nice dhaba feel.

Overall gr8 experience , tasty food, decently priced. I love it

Good going Bad

I ordered from the Dhaba just this last week and was up-hauled at the deteriorated quality of food. The Butter Chicken was way overpriced for the quantity and even the quality had gone bad. The chicken they used was thigh boneless pieces that don't cook well. The gravy was only tomato based with next to no spices and no flavors at all. With the basic of Punjabi Food going low I doubt that they can continue to be so proud of their Punjabi Cuisine Chain.

Their AC section is very noisy and over hauls the sound of music.

The Waiters look a little confused and you will find them running here and there taking orders.

Normally this place is packed , so call n make reservations. As in all possibility , you will have to wait for a table, and there are no shades in the waiting area. An obvious concern during Monsoons.

Alright the accompaniments have increased -more chatpata onions, garlic and in the end some cool minty drink. However it doesn't compensate for the really small quantities.
