Good Food And Service

Ratna Palace was once upon a time a "watering hole" for me and my colleagues. Mahim was a central location for us hence it was either Ratna Palace or Step-In for us.

A dimly lit interior gave a typical Bar like feel to it. It is "Quarter" joint, hence a lot of people frequent here; it's cheaper than the peg system.

The food here is good and I mean GOOD, be it Veg or Non-Veg.

Our favourite dishes here are:

1] Shole Kebab - Spicy n Soft
2] Dal Khichdi - You get one of the Best Dal Khichdi's at a Bar. One served here is also nice.
3] Chicken Sukka
4] Chicken / Veg Biryani - Of course not an authentic Biryani but nicely spiced with a decent helping of Veggies / Chicken.
5] Fish - Sometimes it is very good but on a few occasions, it was smelly. Check before you order.

Service is fast for dine-in and take away both.

Matunga's best hidden secret

Like Borat would say.... We are looking at an extremely classy place here.... NOT; but surely the best south Indian seafood on offer at the rate you would tip a waiter in Mahesh or Trishna. It would come across as a Grade 'unwanted' quarter bar but the AC section of the place is usually filled with regulars who savour a drink on the way home from work (mind you... it's a decent bunch of professionals); any other person would be apprehensive to take their ladies there for obvious reasons but we i.e. My fiance, my mom and me are regulars at the place. When we talk about food the must try's are as below.

1. Surmai Masala fry: Perfect manglorean masala with curry leaves et al; the slice would be fit for 3 people.
2. Shenane (Goan Mussels): Crisp fried in rava or else in Masala as a main course.
3. Sukka Chicken/Mutton: Basic coconut masala but sumpteous.
4. Good decent chinese food: Best are our quintessential lollipops and Chicken in Red sauce (which feeds 4 good eaters).

All the seafood can be asked for a view before being cooked and will not be served by the staff if not fresh.

The phrase 'offers more than meets the eye' would be apt for this wateringhole. Good food ... Cheap booze... celestial service (a few popular joints can take service tips from the waiters there) a complete gastronomical experience for an intact pocket... that would be our favourite 'Ratna Palace'
