Whenever I crave for chinese food, i have many options to choose from as there are too many chinese restaurants in andheri. But if i want to eat quality food and not over infused masala chinese then this is my go to place!
Saffron serves some amazing chinese and thai dishes that are so yummy and flavorful. Their 3 Aroma rice is so amaaaazingggggg! Almost all their gravies are a hit and their appetizers are yummy too.
Sometimes their services might get a little delayed be it while dining at the restaurant or while ordering it at home.
Saffron serves great food without making it too heavy on our pockets!
A lot of Service Improvement needed
I visited this restaurant on 28/12/2013 for a business lunch to discuss few things with some people. It was a surprised to find buffet arrangement and tables arranged in such a congested place. We opted for la carte. Jade soup was fabulous, Veg crispy as a starters was not appealing. Indian vegetables are really very well made but when i had ordered Naan i recieved Roti though i didn't complaint because i want to concentrate on my meeting. Veg biryani was Good.
Would like to mark that service of staff is very pooooorr and slow so please ordered your food well in advanced.
WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD
hi i was yesterday with my wife and 2 year old daughter to celebrate an occasion i always order for a wine i was suggested 3 different ones i banged on to have 4 seasons and my wife for a mocktail and a prawns in butter garlic sauce for the start after 12 min wait the captain comes to me saying the wine is not available with not much choice i asked for the second option to my surprise my starter was on my table even before the wine and the mocktail .for the second course i wanted to eat fish itself as my daughter is fond of it too the captain suggested me fish grill that of bassa or deep fried fish or surmail tawa and he him self told me go for the tawa surmai so i said fine again after 6 min he comes back saying the fish is not available i mean what kind of service is this i instantly called for the manager who in turn should had come up to me started talking to the captain then he went inside the kitchen came back to the captain and told him that it seems in the briefing it was mentioned that there is no surmai i could hear this conversation happening still he did not come up later a curly guy with a tie i suppose he is the asst comes up to me saying could i serve you any thing else i was so pissed the reason is also just next to me the table next was a couple with their daughter who ordered for a dessert where the order was taken then the same captain comes back saying not available then the couple agrees for red velvet cake when consumed by their daughter was stale and was changed for black forest by the same captain all this really pissed me off as the manager is not at all firstly co operative and has no respect for the guest they do not even apologise for their inappropriate behaviour i just asked for my bill paid off and just walked off the rest with out creating a sean as there where a lot of guest around just to say to the management of saffron you managers are very rude no respect to guest and there is for sure no communication between both kitchen and service staff .Food and service is number 1 that comes in to picture for a restaurant to grow secondary is your ambiance and price.Hope the management takes this note seriously for me that was the first and the last time i would visit this place never ever again.
Disappointed place- wont recommend
Wont recommend- totally disappointing place
It was worst experience I ever had at good restaurentSaffron totally disappointed behaviour of restaurent manager. We 12 colleagues went for lunch buffet there, a long thread came in my roti I asked waiter to call his mananger thrice but got no response to it finally went at billing desk and asked the person sitting over there call manager and show this how maintain your fame but he said that manager is busy I waited for somtime till when he was back and came to knew this thing but he didnt came to table for apologising this made me disappointed and this when bill came I told that I wont pay for one plate which I left as it is, then the manager came and said we cannot give such discount we can just change the roti and till end he didnt apologised for it and said that ' thread he toh tha' this was the way he talked to customer.
Must go for Freind groups
i m go for saturday night in that place, its very decent and very polite staff. And sitting arrangement is very best in all the area of hotel. (Specailly for groups and Family ). Food quility is also very good
Definatly try for ur spacial one for Dating (For Privacy Chatting )......yeepppeee Place
Good experience overall!
Went there on a Sunday evening and the place had a good ambiance and good food... The service was decent too... Infact someone in my family commented that there are more waiters than tables at the place...They were serving happy hours till 9 pm with some starters also added to the Happy Hour menu... however, the price of all the starters in the menu were hiked up 70% from the normal menu which means 1+1 doesnt actually work out to a 50% discount on those actually... something they should check on... Overall good experience i should say though...
Value for money buffet lunch in Andheri/Jogeshwari
Have been here 7 - 8 times, usually for buffet lunch, which is quite inexpensive at 275 per head. Their spread is quite good, but do take care to sit downstairs, usually due to the large number of customers coming in, they arrange for the buffet upstairs as well, but if you go upstairs, then you will miss salads and starters (although the staff claims otherwise). Reach there early at around 12:15 PM to get a seat at the main restaurant, book in advance as well. (Even if you book in advance, still you got to reach early).
Recently discovered that they serve draught beer as well!
saffron is always a treat. these are the caterers that also did my sister's wedding reception and will be doing mine as well.....its been two years since her reception but people still remember the food....amazing roghan ghosht (lamb almost falling off the bone), fabulous chicken peshawari, finger licking good starters (corn cheese balls and fish fingers with tartare sauce)...if i do go here, try the buffet which is affordable and has a good spread or u could always go for ala carte and dont forget to try the fried fish amritsari.
A zero on Hospitality and Service
The catering staff lack the common sense of hospitality. The staff started eating from buffet counters when some of us had not even started the main course. Half of the food was finished and buffet stoves were being removed when we had not even seen main course. Some of the staff was already occupying dining area and were talking very loudly. All in all, the restaurant can be rated 1 on 5 in hospitality. Whatever we had in our buffet was not even warm enough.
With family, i would never prefer Saffron eatery for buffet.
Bliss restobar of Saffron is pathetic !!!!
It was sheer waste of Sunday evening !!
the mutton starter which we ordered from the happy hours menu had merely 3 pieces of mutton with a tastless sauce which they claimed to be peanut butter and was extremely overpriced at Rs. 475/ -
We requested the head steward to suggest items which were stir fried or baked. But it turn out to be disappointing, head steward suggested some twin paneer starter as spicy & non fried one which we were keen on trying but it turned out to be totally opposite.it was deep fried and bland !!!!
Also we order for veg roll which the waiter claimed to have vegetable stuffing in roomali roti also turned out to be fried.
At this point of time, I couldnt control my agitation & asked them to cancel the order as I din't see any point in argueing further.
Waiter took back the order & when we called out the head steward repeatedly who sugegsted all of it turned deaf ears, he turned up pnly after 25 min that too after calling for him thrice
Repeatedly telling them that we were not looking at deep fried items but just baked or stir fried starters.
They were repeatedly suggesting some items which turned out to be exactly what we were not looking at.......shere waste of money !!!
Good Food, Great Ambience...
I went there with my team of 10 and we had a great time. The food was good(Veg Soup, Panner tikka, Paneer dry roll,Chicken Tikka & Chicken Koliwada for starters with a great varieties of salads, 2 Veg & 2 Non-veg Main course item, 2 Sweets, Pasta Counter(really amazing), Chinese(Hakka Noodles & Aroma Tirangi Rice and finally Ice cream & Cake for desserts. Couldn't ask for more@275. The Ambience was great with good low music. The only concern was that the food was not hot and we had to request twice to serve hot food otherwise the service was excellent. Overall a good place. Definitely recommended.
cockroach in my biryani....
i have been ordering food from this place for almost three years no complaints..v gud food especially the pasta n chkn thai red curry...but last time whn i ordered biryani there was a cockroach in it....whn i called to complain the manager offered to send another biryani, which accd to me was not a very intelligent solution coz we all knw biryanis r not made to order so the chance of more biryani coming from the same cokroach infested bucket were quite high, not to mention i hv been put off biryani for 4 months now..he also offered to send something else but i was in no mood to eat anything else....i guess this is one of the situations wherer managers cant help it no matter wht they do.... but i wud hv liked a refund for sure(not becoz 200 bucks wud hv made it ok for me but i wud hv thought ok the restaurant is taking onus and r moral enough to do smthing to retain a regular customer) which he refused...R U KIDDING me... sad!!!
Perfect for dining with your family.
Prima facie good food, ambience and service for a family outing. Starters are slightly high priced but the main courses are quite well priced & economic. The quantity of food is sufficient for 3 moderate eaters. The Corn, Spinach, Basil soup is brilliant. A fantastic blend of flavors perfectly done is a must have for all soup lovers. In the starters for spice loving eaters there is a plethora of varieties ranging from Tandoori, Chinese, Mexican, Indian & Thai food. Varieties in main courses as well. The generous serving of mutton Biryani suffices two easily. The butter chicken is creamy and very well made. Good variety of moderately priced cocktails & mocktails. The service is good & prompt. The waiting time is literally nil. The ambience is good and very pleasant with light good music being played in the background. Saffron provides a good choice of pastries ranging from brownies & cakes. A three course meal (soup, starter, main course) for a family of four would cost you Rs. 1500 (VAT incl). Cost of approx.Rs.350 per person for a three course meal with 3 star facility is quite affordable.
Not a bad deal
Buffet for 225 is one of the cheapest deal I have come across and they do not offer this by cutting back on no of items. Though it wont be a lavish spread but its so much that you can taste each and everything heartily unlike others where there are so many items that sometimes you forget what you have tasted and what you have not. If you have ladies for company you get value for money given their small appetite. So we have starters, soup (one), aloo chaat, raita, hara bhara kebab, cheese balls and few more. Main course will have 3-4 veg sabji, two kind of rice followed by three different kind of desserts like halwa, jalebi, pastries and one scoop of ice cream served at your table. They serve non veg items too. Its a very popular restaurant for business lunch and usually its beaming with people. With such a reasonable pricing and an ok taste not a bad place to visit.
Lunch Buffet.....!!!Over Crowded place
Been to this place for lunch buffet yesterday with my friends we all reached dere around 1 p.m. the place was over crowded and it took 1 hour to get a table free for all 4 of us.After waiting for so long finally we got d place to sit..The ambience was average and the service was poor ..... all of us decided to start with salads all taste gud...i luved chicken salad d most......den we moved on to starters and main course dey ve 2 non-veg and 2 veg varieties in both...The mutton dey served was uncooked...The salads were d only thing we liked rest everything tastes pathetic....Although they had a reasonable rates for buffet but I will not go to this place again....... around 4 months back when I visited dis place for lunch buffet on sunday.... food was awesome, service was gud and it was nt at all over crowded but i think as the crowd is increasing for sunday lunch the quality of food s getting worse. ..
buffet@199 all worth it...DO TRY IT...
Saffron is 1 place to actually go and try out different variety of foods... the best part is the price at which they provide soo many varieties... starting with the starters it was the best it had 3 n-veg starters and 2 veg starters... the main course did not matter much coz the starters made for the main course... The main course had a lot of variety i think no 1 else can provide such gr8 food at such a reasonable price... The deserts were the best of all... the food was the best so what else matters @ 199... I suggest dont miss it have a try.. ITS WORTH IT.....
Nice Place to Have meal
Hi All, Wanted to share the review about this restaurant.... Recently we have been to this place for meal with friends. I found it quite nice.
- Nice options in food
- Non Veg was very Nice
- Quite reasonable rates (225Rs for meal buffet (its no longer 199 now :P))
- Air conditioning was not good
- Quite conjusted
Overall: Nice option for all who work nearby SEEPZ.
After a poor review 3 months back, I dared to visit this place a day after Christmas for their lunch buffet. And all I can say is that a lot has changed!
Food served was tasty & fresh, straight from the kitchen (and not the refrigerator). This has always been the case, especially with starters, where fresh batches are added. Its OK to wait for a minute than eat hours stale food.
Junglee Chicken salad and the non-veg main course tasted great with fresh naan/rotis. Veg main course was decent; the Paneer gravy tasted terrible but Paneer was very fresh.
The continental menu was great: Indonesian Fried Rice & Veg Florentine. However, this time the gravy was tasty but Paneer was very hard. The only complaint I still have with this is that I've never got to eat Mexican or Arabic :(
There were 4 deserts: Gulab Jamun, Jalebi, Ice-cream and Chocoloate Crunchy - that was out of the world.
The service was prompt right from the reception to check-out. Except for the fact that they always hurry up with the bill, rather unasked for! Nobody wants the check :) but they should at least wait till someone calls for it, or starts walking out ;-)
Do check out the menu before going.
Not worth it
Ambience was OK and food too was just about OK but the service was bad. The waiters were mighty rushed up to collect my plate even when my friends were still eating. Told them not to do that once but the second time I was in no mood to teach them manners. Left a bad taste as it wasn't even packed or such. I won't venture there again.
Longest Meal ever!
Nono...dont misunderstand the title. It was a long dinner but not because the food was too much to finish. Every course took shockingly long to arrive. Why else would we spend 3 and half hours at a restaurant, willing to fulfill our dinner appetite with breakfast!
Anyway, to start with, we ordered one round of drinks (cocktails & mocktails) which were served promptly. They were accompanied by the starters we had ordered, which were served around 20mins after the drinks, which is acceptable. The bbq chicken was really good, as were the falafels and veg platter.
We ordered main course immediately so that not too much time would be wasted while shifting to it from appetizers. We ordered an Italian chicken dish (I forget the name...but we thought it was pasta but didnt turn out to be!), chicken Thy-phy with Thai herbed rice and a Chinese chicken dish. Veggies ordered stuffed capsicum and veg milli jhuli. This is when the fun began. The starters ended, glasses emptied, waiters kept hovering around, but there was no sign of our main course. You know how after you have appetizers, the initial hunger goes off. Well, the hunger went off and came back and was subjected to no food, and hence went off again! The main guy though, surprisingly, kept ensuring thats the drinkers had their glasses full. Obviously, since the food hadnt arrived, people kept refilling their drinks unwillingly, but the food just did not arrive! Finally, after around an hour, the main course arrived. Alas, such a waste. The food was cold. Not warm, absolutely Cold! When pointed out, the head waiter just smiled and didnt seem to think it mattered. He even reassured us saying that the food had been kept in the hot case. I wonder why it wasnt just served given that we had inquired about it more than 4-5 times. The veg milly jhuli was extremely sad! The chicken dishes were good but would have been better had they been warm.
We even decided to risk it and order desserts out of their pathetic list of 3-4 options. They have ice cream, kulfi, gulab jamuns and sizzling brownie, which we were told, was not available. So we settled for ice cream which again took around 20mins to arrive. Maybe they have a ice cream machine where they actually prepare it. Authentic! :P
And then at last, we asked for the bill, which took 20mins to arrive and then again 20mins for the card to be swiped. I really really wonder what they do!
What amused me was the attitude of the waited. Whenever we asked about the dishes, he asked the drinkers if they wanted their glasses refilled! Good business!
Food: 3/5 (Cold!)
And thats all. The end to a place which could have been so much better! What a waste!
i have been for buffet lunch at many restaurant but saffron is something different from others good value for money, i dont know how they manage this quality in such a small amount,i have been on monday then too i was waiting for 10 min. i was about to leave but the staff who attended me was so courteous that i could not leave.
The food was really tasty,if u want to have( Thai curry, golden fried prawns, shahi tukda, chocolate crunchy it is always saffron ,the service was a bit slow but understandable with the quality and crowd.
IAM A FAN OF SAFFRON
Its Going Down mate!!!
I have been the first one to recommend this place and have been keeping tab on the development for quite some time. The last time we went, they had arranged the buffet in a small resto-bar on the first floor (Bliss I guess). The food was ice-cold - including the dal & the gulab jamuns.
Moreover, we have checked the menu several times, awaiting mexican or italian cuisine, but the menu hardly seems to be changing. Whenever you call them, we will be serving Rogan Ghost, Chicken tikka, Paneer Fingers, Chicken 65, Three Treasure Rice,.... No pasta, no nachos, no middle-eastern cuisine (although they serve it a-la-carte)
I hope someone is taking care of the complaints below...
Disaster at Saffron
Ok. I went to this place considering all the reviews that I read and since its one of the places I haven't been around powai(near Matoshree), I thought it would be exciting to try the 199 buffet. But the experience turned out to be of a mixed one.
To start with the positives, the food is good with a great variety of dishes and desserts at worth Rs. 199. The ambience of the place is also good. The dessert especially the 'Fruit Cream' was awesome. Not too sweet and full of whipped cream. Good for those who do not like sweet desserts. The Gulab Jamun with Boondi was also good. They had a great variety of starters especially Veg. The Non Veg was ok, not that great (They could have made it better).
Now to the negatives. The worst part of the meal was that in the Bhindi sabzi we found a caterpillar in our plate (After half the dish was already consumed). We do not know how many would have been as it was very difficult to identify, but we managed to see one. Since all the tables were occupied, (we had already booked our tables earlier), the place appeared to be very crowded and conjusted. Inorder to take the servings we had to stand in a long line and it appeared as if we are come for a wedding and everyone is rushing as if the food will get over (to avoid the long line). The organization of the entire area was in a mess as there was no place to even walk properly and there were people actually shoving you while you are serving yourself due to lack of place (I dont blame this people, they cudn't help it). The salads were kept just next to the door, thus inviting dust to settle in them, which is a very bad location to keep any food. The waiters were unable to keep up with the crowd and this resulted in a lot of empty food vessels.
Overall, I did not quite enjoy it and I personally feel that if we can put in a bit more money there are better places that we can enjoy buffets.
I Love This Place
I am a total Food Lover & That is Why I am a Big Fan of the Rs 199 Buffet This Restaurant Offers. The Variety offered is Very Good & The food itself is Excellent. The Review Below Me says That a Cockroach was found in a particular Dish, However I find that extremely Hard to Believe Because I am Frequently Visiting this place from a very long time & Never have I heard anything of this sort ever occuring. Infact I have found this particular Restaurant to be Extremely Hygienic & Clean. I rate This Restaurant Very Good on Hygiene & Cleanliness. The Pricing is Very Reasonable. The service is Polite & Efficient. I also Find the Parking Facilities very Good. All in all a Very Good Restaurant.
All of you may like it
But when i had gone there i found a cockroach in my dal tadka. It looked like it was a peice of fried onions but fortunately i had just two morsels of my rice when i don't know why i tried to check out diz piece of onion and it was a cockroach ( 3/4 inch long, 2mm wide) well cooked which anyone would pass off as onion.
After that i have never gone there nor would recommend anyone to do so without inspecting their hygiene factor.
I sure can live without eating in this restaurant.
God Bless each one of you who reccomends this place and anyone else who wish to dine here.
Its better you eat at a streetside dhaba
Very neat place
Went to place last night with 4 of my other friends. Every review outhere soeacks about this buffet which applies only for lunch. I happened to be here for dinner.
Lets begin with the positives of this place. We ordered for Chicken achari kebab which was very well done, wit well marinated succulent pieces of chicken & fish fingers were just d normal, nothing fancy bout it. . Wanted to call for roast lamb in wine sauce, but d waiter reverted saying they dont keep any lamb dishes anymore. in the mocktails one of my friends ordered a BLUSHING ANGEL. I had reservations bout it initially coz the explanation stated black current with orange & topped with jeera, but it was lovely. the cocktails ordered on d table were PASSION (which is 90% similar to the Jamaican Jungle from Steak House) I ordered for a Lass. All drinks very well made. One of my friends ordered for a BEJING CHICKEN SOUP. It was strong, loadsa chicken & herbs. Was a perfect appetizer... The main course ordered was BURNT CHILLY GARLIC CHICKEN NOODLES, chicken in black pepper sauce & Pasta in Arabiata sauce. The noodles were fire, just so well done that in spite of sniffing we finished it all, even though we kept wondering bout running to d loo d next morning.. but we din mind it. The pasta came along with mashed potato n awesome garlic toast. so it was perfect to kill the spice n heat created in d body by the chilly garlic... The black pepper chicken was yummy as well. Was jus hoping it wud'nt have come in the consistency of the Manchurian types. we had no place left for desserts, even though i really wanted to have the sizzling chocolate. ..
The damages for all of this came to about 1820/- no complaints besides the fact that the waiter took enormous time to get us everything. Even to locate n call for the waiters was quite a bit of a task n all this despite being a weekday & the restaurant having only 2 other groups besides us.
in totality.. id give it a 4/5 for the food & 2/5 for service & 4/5 for the ambiance. but its a definitely worth one time goer kinda place. u wont regret it
Since I'm a regular, I tried their buffet yesterday. The biggest attraction is that it's at Rs. 199 (plus additional taxes). Now I'm not gonna get into details, because somebody has already done that in a review here - http://mumbai.burrp.com/establishment/review/axq_bri .
The thing about their buffet is that even though it looks like a small spread, it is the right amount of food that you'll need to eat. They have a good mix of veg and non veg. Their chicken was so tender, we couldn't stop raving about it. In fact, this was the first time I really enjoyed their Indian food! It might have to do with a recent change in chef - a Mr. Tambe coming in.
The mutton curry was also well cooked, which is essential for an Indian preparation. However, both non-veg starters were chicken and they categorically do not serve sea food in their buffet.
What they don't tell you, and you should ask for it if you are a wine lover - is that at Rs 299 + taxes, you get an additional 2 glasses of wine with the buffet. At Rs 399 + taxes, you get an unlimited supply of wine with the buffet. They serve Chantilli Cabernet Sauvignon, both red and white. I don't particularly like this wine, so I went for the 199 buffet. But if you're a fan, then you're in luck!
just can't think beyond....
To start with, I'll second alpana and prasad on their reviews.... every cent of their word is perfect..
Saffron has been my social circle's fav joint, first it is the best eatery closest to my place, second the variety in continental cuisine they offer.
Our fav is Thai green curry, Mexican salad, sizzling brownie (hot fav for all the ladies in house), fungie parichi (pardon for the spelling), all of Mexican, American salad, and the list goes on...we usually mix n match but the above list comes out to be the most consistent in last 4 years if not more :-).
Not been to the buffet, but heard a lot about it, need to try it someday with bottomless wine ;-)
Now, the not so good part, I never found any Indian dish that match up the continental ones hence would not recommend if you are going there to have indian cuisine, there are better places than saffron like Happy Singh, Urban Tadka, Timbaktoo, Yello chillie etc...
To end, Saffron also respect and go the extra step in playing a theme song if it is ur birthday/anniversary and usually the on the house pastry comes with a litted candle :-)
Ambiance, is perfect, sitting is comfortable be it a couple, 4 or group of 20 all accommodate nicely with enough distance not to bother the others. Though, weekends dinner may become noisy when there are large groups of youngster. So far the crowd I've noticed is primarily family, on occasions dating couples, office groups, large family groups ...overall all kind of people/group like this place and hence are often seen around.
I highly recommend a visit to this place, though a bit off for most of the andheri (e) resident, but who said good things come easy.
Go for Italian, Lebanese and Continental
I am a regular to Saffron as it is the closest multi-cuisine restaurant to my house! The quality of their ala carte has been deteriorating by the year. Their Lebanese/Arabian, Italian and Continental cuisines are still good, but I'm not a big fan of their Indian and Chinese cuisines. The Indian and Chinese here is very very regular and not worth the prices.
Also, when they just started out, they served boti mutton kababs (or pieces of mutton), whereas now they only serve the minced mutton kababs. Now I love my botis and mincing mutton just takes away half the taste. But, well, they've stopped, and i'm hugely disappointed.
For starters, I would recommend the Shish Taowk and if you don't mind eating a slightly sweet dish, try the Chicken Satay. For the main course, I would recommend the Supreme Royal Special, the Lamb Hungarian Goulash, Scallops of Fish (if you like bland), and absolutely anything from their Italian section. And you can end with a Sizzling Ice-cream. Not very innovative, but you just can't go wrong with it!
So if you're close to the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link road, make a trip. It's worth it.
Buffet @ 199
The first review demands some introduction of the place:
'Saffron Eatery & Bar', specializes in a variety of cuisines including Thai, Chinese & Mexican, with their kitchen (probably) managed by Maharaja Essence that caters to other restaurants in the suburb. Its located inside the Supremo Activity Centre that is adjacent to the Matoshree Sports Club operated by BMC. The place has great ambience, by the large tables and sofas make it uncomfortable for a buffet as people usually keep moving. Apart from the buffet at 199*, they also offer lunch with two glasses and unlimited Chantilli (from Chateau Indage) at 299 or 399 respectively.
The introductory 5 course buffet featured the following:
Soup: 1 Veg
Delicious piping hot Thai soup
Salads: 4 Veg / 2 Non-Veg (Egg, Chicken)
Nothing that deserves mention
Appetizers: 2 Veg / 2 Non-Veg
Unfortunately both the veg starters were deep fried, one could have been roasted or grilled. Both non-veg starters were chicken: one kebab and Thai fried chicken which everyone loved
Main Course: 2 Veg / 2 Non-Veg
Paneer and Mix veg for the vegetarians were decent. There was mixed opinion about the Chicken & Mutton gravies, cooked in curd & palak respectively.
The gulab jamun was beyond words and nice Fruit cream. Slightly disappointing though was the ice-cream, served in strawberry flavor and limited to a single scoop.
All-in-all, decent variety and good value for money at Rs.223!
