Its located in the heart of powai. They have both buffet and alaz carte option and always prefer the second choice.Kadhai paneer, malai khofta are my fav in Main. The Singapore noodles were decent, But the spicy biryani steal the show. Desert were regular one- gulaab jamun, moong Halwa, and miniature pastries. Expect some innovation in this section. The quantity served is relatively less and the bread size are below the acceotable standards. Interiors are mediocre with dim lighting and soft music in backgground. and crowd is very loud and noisy.
I recently tried Saffron spice powai with a few friends of mine for lunch as this place was highly recommended by my friends. The place is bigger then what I had expected and the ambience is very pleasant. We had the lunch buffet and it was just perfect. The service was upto the mark. I had a good time and we also we received 10% off on our final bill since we made our reservations through urbanrestro.
Good Food, Reasonable Rates
I usually have my office lunch here and i must say that everything they have been able to provide with the best service possible. To start with the Food is good and their is lot of variety for Veg/Non-Veg both . The Ambience is good. The staff is good.
Lunch Buffet at 399
I went with my team there & found this place to be an economical option with all the expensive buffet options at Powai otherwise.
I would highly recommend the place for Nonveg eaters as their spread of main course & desserts were good
Pls avoid the welcome drink, tastes like some tonic/health drink.
Salads were avg with only 1 nonveg option however overall value for money at 399

Well we went their for a dinner after hearing a lot about people going gaga over it. The ambiance is lovely, and even though it was crowded, it wasn't very noisy which was definitely a plus on my list.
We opted for the a la carte, and mostly went with a 3 course menu style. The food was nice but not so great, the service was good the waiter's recommendation not so much.
Saffron Spice has a nice mix of cuisines and fortunately all varieties i.e. Indian, Chinese and Continental are tasty. The ambience is pretty good, The restaurant is spacious and well located. The service is okay. The pricing is a little high but not as high as many other Powai restaurants. The restaurant is worth a visit.
Way not to go Saffron Spice
I visted this place on friday with 6 of my friends. I had been a fquenter to this place ealier. However I visted this place after almost a year and can see quite a difference in their customer service. We had to remind the waiter a couple of times to get our drinks. The starter arrived and the drinks came in after 2 reminders to the waiter. Had asked for Schezan sauce but the waiter forgot completely about it and had to be reminded again. The Dal and Dal Khichdi that we ordered late was very salty and we just simply returned it back.
Not sure what is wrong with this place recently. The place was not crowded even though it was a friday evening. I would say that the management needs to buckle up fast and regain to the past glory. Have always enoyed visiting this place in the fast when i was staying nearby this place..
having heard a lot abt dis place, we went here with high hopes..but wre rather dissapointed..d ambience is nice..d soup n salds were v gud..d starters wre less spicy n dry..though veg ones we gud.. d main course lacked punjabi nonveg items..though d chinese was gud..d sweets were d best part..!! a lil costly but gud as a 1 time visit..!
Good ambience with above average food
I had gone to Saffron Spice, Powai with my office colleagues yesterday. The location is very accessible as it is near the Main highway (still one of our teammates could not find his way). We had booked buffet lunch for our team of 20. However we did not get a joint seating arrangement. The ambience was good. We started with the welcome drink which was I guess rasna pineapple. One of us requested for an extra drink but was refused by the waiter. The starters were good especially the non-vegetarian ones. In non-veg, Chicken Thai Curry was one with a nice blend of spices. Also on the menu was live aloo paratha which was good. Rice and dal pakoda was also above average. Overall, I would give it a 3.5/5.
Just another restaurant.
Well to begin with, if you are a vegetarian better not go here cause their menu is a delight for the non vegetarians, whereas for the veggies its just there for the sake of it.
I was here with my family and they had a candle light dinner night, which was very pleasing and calm but as I realized later it was calm only because there were very few people initially. Once the place fills up you can hear almost everyone.
Since it was a candle light dinner night, it got pretty hard to read the menu and even after asking the captain to brighten the lights a bit, he refused saying its the theme but right across me there were 6 foreigners enjoying their dinner in bright light. I wonder what was that about.
Coming to the food, and I'll be only commenting on the veg stuff.
To begin with, there were just 3 soups. So no one bothered to order since none were interesting.
We ordered the assorted vegetable platter with cottage cheese as most of the other starters were either with corn or paneer. It was pretty good and one platter is enough for 5 people easily.
For the main course, we got the veg kolhapuri and baramati. Both were a good choice. Their kulchas are really very nice, also the garlic cheese naan was worth the money spent.
The service is pretty authentic but slow.
Food might be awesome I am assuming for the non vegetarians as they have a wide variety in it.
NEVER SAY ( RECOMMEND) NEVER AGAIN(VISIT)
The food did not do much to hit my taste buds , but what hit me hard was when i heard a desperate cry for waiter , this customers sitting table was next to the walls of the restaurant. He saw a mouse running on the painting sills and then......
I have nothing more to pen on this incident, immediately me and my family moved to another place.
worth a visit
It was a random decision to visit this place, but it turned out rather satisfying. The ambiance gets the first nods when you enter its premises. Bright, crafty and colorful, it is quite something for the eyes. A decent selection of food items to choose from (Biryani is spectacular, and yes it had saffron and spice in it!) and good service, this place is a great choice for a family lunch or dinner. Avoid the soup or 'shorma' and stick to the regular Indian meal.
Verdict: Not bad at all!
Pathethic with a capital P
Visited once for buffet ... Hopeless service , non-replenished dish trays , most of the items tasted very bad ...
Visited once for ala-carte .. Ordered fish , they served us smelly fish and when we pointed out that , the manager said there is no problem with the fish .
None of the items were good , In the end the entire group ordered rice and dal since that was one thing which nobody can screw up ...
NEVER EVER order mocktails over here. They dont know how to make.
Saffron or Clove
I have seen this and had heard about it, but never felt the need to visit the place. Due to a miscommunication with someone, had to reach powai for a meeting and this was preferable to Rodas.
We reached there at 8 pm and the restaurant had a couple of tables occupied. We decided to use the restaurant instead of Clove the bar which had happy hours extending right till midnight.
Having two Jain along with you, seriously limits your choices, hence tried Paneer tikka (soft, with the right amount of spice) Moti sheekh kabab (a bit dry, but then who eats veg sheekh ever)
This was followed up by main course mix veg navratna (less spicy ordered, received regular - did not understand since have had this sweet) methi mutter malai (good taste but methi was invisible). The roti, roomali were nothing to write about.
We had also ordered fried green chilly (did not come) green salad (forgot sir)
The service was bad, given the fact one of us was regular at the place and the staff knew him by name.
Overall, nothing exceptional that would make one want to visit the place again.
Arrogant and Fraud
I went to this place with friends for a nice evening. Service was extremely slow and patchy. One drink never came and finally when we inquired we were told its not available. It was hard to find a waiter when needed. Even for menu we had to ask multiple times.
In the end when bill came I looked at it casually and found price of one drink higher. I pointed it out to waiter and asked him to check bill completely. He gave me a new bill which I paid. Just out of curiosity when I checked the bill while leaving I found prices higher for all other drinks. I showed it to bill desk. They first gave it back to me that everything looks in order. Now this pissed us off and I showed them each line item in the bill and menu. Then they found the mistake but showed no remorse or offered any apology. I demanded to talk to the manager hoping he will take it seriously. But to my surprise he actually got angry with us saying that they are giving back the extra money and what else I am expecting. He didn't even felt sorry.
Irony is that I had to pay 10% service tax as part of the bill for this experience. There are so many great new places opened up i Powai and it is amazing that these people still haven't learned any lesson. It remains the worst place in Powai.
Was OK earlier....getting pathetic by the day....
Guys....I have been to this place a number of times, mainly for Team Parties in the afternoon and trust me I have had an argument with the Manager everytime....this is easily one of the most over-rated names today. The Andheri branch is pretty good but the Powai one has degraded over time...could be due to the arrogance of the Management; for they feel they are the best and people will come in despite their low quality standards...
Techcoolie's review says it all....this place is overcrowded due to more tables being squeezed in...this has compromised quality of food...long lines at the buffet counter coupled with empty dishes for starters are a common sight...desserts get over in no time....at one point when I started my lunch there were gulab jamuns...half an hour later i was surprised to see watermelons and apples as desserts...
food is also not great and is rarely warm....when argued with the accented manager, he tries to appease you by offering something to you...if someone else fights he will offer him...but he wont ensure that ppl dont have to fight to get what they are paying for.....
this branch is really spoling the brand....I have been to the MIDC branch and trust me...that place rockss....
So only if you have no other choice go to this place.....
We went to that place for a Sunday brunch which costs around 350 bucks including taxes. Its a nice spread of veg, non veg and a live counter which serves you pasta and egg omelets. The pasta was really good with lot of ingredients to choose from and off course with an option to prepare in red or white sauce. They buffet had soups (mushroom and chicken with bread but without any cheese/butter spread), aloo chaat, wafer chaat, salads, coleslaw (which was very bitter in taste), sandwiches, samosa and some non veg items. Since am a vegetarian I wont comment on non vegetarian menu. The main course had daal Bukhara (decent may not be like ITCs signature dish), rice, thai noodles (good), chole bhature, curd, paratha, palak paneer, 3 more vegetables with some non veg platter. Desserts consisted of gulabjamun (too good), egg cake pudding, gaajar ka halwa, nariyal barfi (why??) vanilla ice cream. The ambience was ok and the staff was very prompt with clearing the table. Overall with the amount of money you are spending you can expect a decent outing.
It was on 16/4/10 that I visited this restaurant with my family, the place was already crowded but then the manager could somehow arrange for 3 of us....HOw??? by squezing three people on the table of 2 we were fine as tis saved our time...but then the ambience was damn irritating lots of chatter box going all around..absolutely no peace of mind...and hence we requested to shift us to some other place which was done..but again the same squezzed arrangements...then it was time for us to order...now comes the exact issue...we ordered for Green salad..which when brought was mere handful of pieces of raddish a few tomatoes and carrots..it seemed that they bought the cheapest of the vegetables to serve their clients and with whopping price of 75...We immediately called the manager their and asked is this the quality of the salad you offer and we asked how about cucumber and all...to which he replied I 'll get you..whihc never came and finaly he cancelled the green salad order and asked for some replacement but by then we were damn iritated by the service the quality and the squaker chatter box which was nothing but a nuisance...It was after all this that the manager was very apologetic and said I would personally look into your orders and get them delivered to the earliest..and he did but then do all the people need to follow the manager for the service..or isnt it necessary for you to look out what is needed and what isn't.Then came the main course..whereinwe wanted double crispy butter roti but that tooo was served like regular with black burns which claimed to be due to making it crispy but it wasn't....We just wanted to end off our dinner...and so dint order much and just checked out with whatever we ordered...and then ratings/suggestions were to be given with was most irritating of the lot...what do you expect to give in feedback..... improve the service , the quality of food what you serve....and better ambience...and this claims to have corporate clientele..they must all be those noisy types..SS.. should not be Saffron Spice but should rather be Substandard Service..which would never suffice to the expectations of the customers
Good but not great
All in all a good place for lunch as long as you don't expect too much from the scattered service personnel.
The food was great, Zaffrani prawns, biryani, were the highlights. The cocktails - B 52 and Pina Colada were well-prepared. Though a bit on the pricier side, its good value for the dishes that were well prepared. We also ordered the Jerk chicken which was bad. Tasteless chicken in a tasteless coating served with okayish cole slaw. Portion size was great.
Full points for a lovely ambience - you can forget what beastly weather you're having when sitting inside the soothing interiors. Purple raw silk on the walls, interesting high-backed chairs, glass flowers with pale purple tinges - according to one a classic yet eccentric arrangement.
However, the service was tacky. We ordered the drinks and starters and waited quite some time for them. While we were waiting for something to arrive at our table, the waiter asked us to order the main course. We mentioned we were waiting for our previous order which didnt change his mind and he repeated that we should order the main course too. It was too early for the kitchen to close and we didnt know why but then we looked at the menus again and ordered the main course. Not that it made our starters appear any sooner but we were glad to see them arrive.
All in all a good place to eat. Don't expect too much more than that and you won't be dissapointed.
boring and repeatitive buffet...!!!
Been to this place 3-4 times (Thanks to the limited options around this place). As per my experience it will be a 2.5, Due to:
1. Average Food.
2. Repeatetive buffet menu.
3. Desserts getting over much before the time & were replaced by some other 'not so good' item.
4. compactly packed siting area, this makes it so crowdy and noisy during lunches.
I remembere when I first went to this place, Some how I got the feeling that the staff working here considered themselves to be working in some 5 star hotel. Full of attitude and fake accent.
We were not interested in buffet but the service person tried evry possible trick to make us have buffet lunch.
We insisted on a la carte and finally gave the order for soup and starters, We were told that the order will take 30 - 45 mins. And we cancelled the order and left.
Later on I went to this place 3- 4 times due to team lunches and budday treats (only decent place near office). But not very much impressed.
Really bad - terrible food, apathetic service.
Landed here early on a Thursday evening and so only 3 tables were occupied. I didn't like their decor at all - more like a bar trying to masquerade as a Indian high-class food place.
When I arrived, I was asked if I would want to sit in the lounge area. The extremely psychedelic lighting at the doorway turned me off - and thank God it did: heard Govinda songs and Salman-Karishma starrer songs being played later - in a lounge!!
Ordered tomato shorba and a starter. About 5 min later, another waiter wanders over to take our order. Don't these people have their own tables/zones or is it just ad-hoc? I don't know what happens when this place is full (which I hear is almost always at lunch).
Meanwhile, the tomato shorba arrived and was really terrible. It tasted like watered down tomato sauce with some weird additive. Even loads of pepper didn't entice me to take more than a couple of sips. The starter arrived a good 20 min after the soup and 30 min after we ordered it. We had ordered a makai malai seekh kabab which seemed like yesterday's leftovers mashed together to form the dish. It had too much elaichi in it (elaichi!!) and was literally tasteless and dull.
Didn't wait for more. Decided to have main course somewhere else.
Ordered the bill which took some time coming. Willingly put down my feedback. The waiter came back with a query about why I had rated everything 'average' - and that too, in a very rude tone, like he thought I was nuts or something. I was very tempted to tell him that since there was no option of 'poor' had to rate as 'average'. Plus I had gone in detail in the feedback - asked him to take time out of his road/traffic-jam gazing and read it himself. He then walked away shaking his head while the other waiters were sniggering and smirking. Shocking how people come back here to such terrible service.
I think Powai has a dearth of good places to eat, which is why this terrible one is so frequented. Sad...
Appauling Food Pathetic service
Had been yesterday for dinner and had the worst experience till today ordered Tomato shorba came out completly wrong plain tomato soup when said to waiter this is not shorba first not ready to agree then agreed when I said i work for hotel and I know what I am saying, one chef arrived on table agreed it was not shorba and appologised brought shorba this time but nice salty one my friend left after one spoon, turn for Aloo starter now worst taste no chutney when asked brought after 5 min left the starter now moved to main course Panner Musalam disgusting taste service very very poor tables around me had the same problem a family of 8 walked out as no one turning up to take order from them even after they asked three times unbelievable and my friends to tell you there were more than 18 staff members I work for Marriott hotel and I am a bar manager and this is not a joke i would run this restaurant only with 4 or max 5 team including me the worst part is yet to come asked for manager no one is turning up could see two managers running from situation at last one turned up accepted that it was poor service but did not even compensate one dish. Every organisation has a problem but how do managers and staff deal with it is important and this was a Disaster trust me dont even think about it...........cant even rate one star there should something less than this as well
Plush surroundings with good food, now only if it was cheaper!
TRY: Non-Veg kabab platter, Murgh Chingari
Drinks are steep, but you could have them if its a celebration. You'd see a lot of office crowds from the surrounding call centers and offices. Tends to get a tad noisy sometimes.
I went to hiranandani garden today and while leaving right on time for my dinner, was checking out some places around... and saw pizza hut... just next to that was Saffron Spice. Honestly, the entrance didnt attract me much but when i saw the 1st floor seatings from outside, it surely impressed me.
Thats when I planned to enter this restaurant. The welcome was very impressive, they have baby elevator to take us on the 1st floor and then a warm welcome by the staff.. the place was very spaced out and peaceful ~ the starters were nice.
Being a Jain, there were not much options but the panner starters and punjabi main course was tempting.
A little expensive as others say, but it surely doesnt shock you. It is worth it :)
Great ambience and quality food
This is one of the better indian restaurants around. The food is above average... i liked the mutton rara..
The ambience makes up for the taste as the place is quite spacious and done up pretty good.
The service is prompt and the service staff well trained.
Recommended if you are in powai and want to have a good full dinner.
Chilled out place
One of the very few places in Mumbai, which is so generous with the seating. The tables are spread out nicely and you don't feel like the person on the other table can steal your food the moment u look somewhere else!
The ambience is excellent. The price is a little over the top, but with a healthy percentage of foreigners frequenting the restaurant, I don't think they have felt the need to reduce the price.
The veg food quality is supposedly good (I avoid veg food whenever possible!). The non-veg food wasn't too much to cry home about.
I would go there if I wanted to have a relaxing evening with my family and feel some space around me.
Unfortunately, I missed the bar the last time around.
Truly Indian Cusine
Saffron & Spice
Location : Powai, Hirananadani, next to Pizza Hut
This is probably one of few restaurants in Mumbai which qualifies itself to be called an Indian restaurant, coz it serves dishes from different Indian cuisines eg Mangalorean, Maharashrtrian etc. Apart from Indian it also has a decent choice of continental food ranging from pasta to sizzlers and sandwiches
Ambience- The restaurant has a very classy minimalist ambience, French windows with drapping curtains, spacious seating and minimalist décor with few Indian artifacts on display and very good lighting. It also has a very interesting open lift which gets you to the restaurant.
Food: There is a good choice of food, the menu is also created in an interesting manner. Soups and Shwaramas (from Rs 65- 80) are a good way to start the meal. The veg and Nonveg soups are quite good if youre looking for something light. Indian starters platter offer all the Indian starters ranging from the Paneer Tikka, Kabbabs one made out of channa and the other with roti is quite good (Rs 350).The portion size is also good. Vegetables are good and so is the choice of the rotis, the appam and vegetable stew south Indian (Rs 275) makes a good meal. However the veg sizzler at Rs 250 was very disappointing with hardly any vegetables and filled with cutlets and very little noodles. The veg pasta with red sauce was all right.
Although we didnt try any of cocktails or mocktails they seem to have a good choice, they also have a lounge bar next door
Service- The service is friendly and quick
My recommendation Good place to go if you have a group of friends or family who have diverse food interests. It makes it an ideal place to celebrate with family and friends or for a quiet romantic meal.
