Must Visit

Good food and reasonably priced. Tried Tom Yum soup and roti kanai with Malaysian curry. Both were extremely good. Ambience is ok and service not so great. However, if you are looking for decent Asian cuisine at reasonable prices, this is a must visit place.

Fair

The restaurant seems quite fairly priced as against its competitors
Service is courteous however nothing excitingly remarkable
They could definitely do with a review of their beverage list specially the cocktails
Wine portion is a wee bit too small

Perfect for a casual dinner and that's where it ends

Overall good value for money

bowl- full :)

Went here on Christmas. The restaurant was always full. We had made prior reservation, so got the seats immediately.

It's a little short on space, so you may find yourself being too close to the other tables. The decor has been appropriately, and gives a sense of Asian culture.

Now coming to the food. Ordered the Tom Yum soup, which was pleasantly good. Paneer Satay for starters, which were served with spicy Peanut Butter dip which tasted unique and something nice for the taste buds.

For Main course had the hakka noodles, which were done to perfection with apt amount of vegetables added to it, and mix veg in chilli garlic sauce, which was a little to spicy to my taste.

The service was pretty quick till we ordered dessert. We wanted to try the Toffee Banana with Ice Cream, which was out of stock! So had to settle with Sizzling brownie, which took around 25 minutes to come. We were just about to cancel it and it arrived. But first bite into it and we forget our dismay. It was juicy and the same point not very hot to burn your tongue!

The menu was a christmas special.. and was indeed very good. And the bill came to 1200, which was apt according to the standard, ambiance and the food quantity.

So if you are eager to try some good thai and asian cuisine.. do give this one a visit!

Surely, would be there soon to satisfy my asian urges! :)

An absolute delight!

Very authentic asian food unlike most places which spice up the food to suit the Indian palate.
If you're an asian food lover, this isn't just a must try. It should be a regular place to eat. Moreover, its pretty reasonable. I just wish you had more outlets.

Loved the yakitori chicken & the panang curry. Can't wait for my next visit :)

Bowled over !!

I checked out this joint while casually wandering about R-City mall on a particular weekend. Fell in love with it almost immediately. The food is just fantastic. I am actually a big fan of chinese food, so "The Bowl House" didn't let me down at all. After my first experience i have come here often and and have dug into all their cuisines Thai, Mongolian and Burmese. Beautiful Ambience and a great spread to tickle your taste buds. A must place to check out for all foodies !

Bowl-full

Nestled between big restaurant brands, The Bowl House holds its own. It easily gets passed off as a Chinese fine dine, but actually it offers a lot more. It specializes in South East and East Asian cuisines that include Chinese, Burmese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese.

Its a medium sized restaurant and the decor is red themed and oriental-looking. They offer a lunch buffet (not too sure of the rates) which I've heard is worth it from a couple of friends.

Thai Lemongrass Prawns, Chicken in Hot Bean sauce, Thai Red Curry are my favorites. Indonesian Fried Rice - Nasi Goreng, was the first time I tried it, and loved it too! Spicy and scrumptious! Try the Sesame Honey Noodles along with vanilla ice-cream, you'll be left wanting for more :)

This place doesn't dig a hole in your pocket. Aptly priced fine-dine. A meal for two would have you lighter by Rs 800.

Here are my ratings: Ambiance - 6/10, Food - 8/10, Service - 7/10, VFM - 8/10

Hi Anu_goodie, nice to hear from you. Just so you know the review part of Burrp is used for reviews specifically. However, in regards to your question, from our historical comments from our guests/customers, quantity has never been a problem. Split Coconut milk based dishes, misplaced orders

Been there twice now. Disaster first time - My friend & I were the only two people in the entire restaurant a Wednesday evening, and still our orders were wrong. It's not even a case of misplacing one customer's orders on someone else's table. There was no one else there!

Disaster 2nd time - We ordered a coconut milk based soup, I think it was the Malaysian seafood laksa, and when the soup arrived, the coconut milk was curdled. And really tasteless. We sent it back. The waiter came back saying that their regular coconut milk that they use for cooking is out of stock, and they are using some other brand's coconut milk, hence they cannot guarantee that the same mishap won't occur again. So we refrained from ordering any further coconut milk based dishes. We ordered chicken dumplings, and they came really cold and with less of chicken and more of the sticky mould. We sent it back and asked to heat and send it back. When it came back hot, it was ok. We also asked for roti canai and chicken gravy. The roti canai was not like the Malaysian one at all, it was just the regular Kerala parotta. The chicken thigh piece was simple dunked in the gravy and it was really tasteless. The gravy was reasonably flavorsome, but the chicken thigh piece simply ruined the taste. Don't venture out here!

Good mix of cuisines

A group of me & my colleagues dropped in purely due to the mix of cuisines of Thai, Chinese, Jap & few other South East Asian.
Compact tastefully decored ambience with multi seating combinations can host a good mix of customers.
Orders were served well in time. Rich in taste, the quantity was a decent portion - goes well for 2 dishes x 3 people. Value for money, avg bill reaches 500.
Cutlery, esp soup spoons could be improved.

Not Worth It...

This was our second visit, The Chicken Manchow Soup and the buy 1 get 1 wine free was a nice. We ordered (the very basic) Stir Fry Szechwan Vegetables, Veg Szechwan noodles and Chicken chilli gravy in Garlic sauce which was in terms of:-
Quantity - Very poor (except for the noodles, which was ok for two people)
Taste- Below Average, Too Oily so we could taste the oil more than the flavour. It looked artificially red.
As far as the restaurant is concerned-
Service:- Hurried
Cleanliness:- Good
Ambience:- good decor but uncomfortable as they had switched off their air conditioning.
Value for Money- average

Bowl house

visit to bowl house was an average experience with no great moments.
the oriental cuisine is quite average and some of the dishes / preperation
quiet greasy .The dark walls with its large floral motifs give an oppressive feel
to the place . the pan fried noodles were bland and soupy but the eggplant was yummy . overall the ambience was noisy and service lacking in various places .

Good place to Dine

We happen to dine at The Bowl House for our Wedding Anniversary. The food is very good. Their Veg Japanese Dumplings were average. However, we enjoyed the Lung Fung Soup and Vegetarian Indonesian rice along with Veg Tofu Garlic. The ambience is fine, it doesnt overwhelm you. Also quantity of food is enough for two people so that they can satiate their appetite and also not feel the stomach burdened with all the food. A meal for two could cost approx around Rs 1000.
Finally we tried the Japanes Spring Roll Chocoate for dessert. Two spring roll is filled with chocalate and served with ice-cream. A nice ending after a good meal but this dessert of overpriced at Rs150. Service is prompt and stewards helpful.
Still its a good restaurent for a good meal and for a repeat dining experience one has to judge themselves.

Excellent momos and som tam

The only complaint I have about this place is that the lighting is too fucking bright which makes it impossible to have a nice and serious drinking session. Otherwise it's ace in every way- deserves the 5/5 rating! Good food and booze, 50% off on all whiskeys and cocktails all day! Buy two mugs or pitchers of draft and get one free.

The wait staff is mostly Nepali and the chef is Marathi, but they do make a mean som tam (request that it be made spicy beforehand) and the momos are great as well. No beef or pork though sadly, just chicken.

My routine is to go and maybe buy some games at the games shop across, get a good foot massage by a nice Thai looking girl at the Aroma Thai spa also in the same mall, and eat some delicious momos and green tea here, or som tam and glenfiddich. In fact I am just going to do exactly that right now! Highly recommended.

YUM!

The variety is good, food is good and ambiance is good too. They've slightly reduced the portions over time but not much of an issue. They've also long since stopped the fixed price lunches which were absolute VFM.

Fresh, Draught Beer is great, Stir Fried Food is yum and Thai Curries are incredible. All in all - Excellent.

Room for improvement: Faster delivery service, better portions and more air-fresheners to get rid of sea food smell in the restaurant.

2/3 days ago, we visited this place (self/daughter/son) for the first time. we ordered one soup (good), one prawns item (very good, chicken good) main course flat noodle (very spicy) and rice in which my daughter came across a 'khattaaak...' stone! so let me begin with the service, even on a really busy sunday they managed to keep us smilin. the food was served really quick.
We had soups, starters, maincourse and desserts and quality & taste was really good. their specialities as suggested by the order taker THE JAPANESE UDON NOODLES are really worth a try. the CURRIES & GRAVIES are a must have.

SERVICE : 4/5
QUALITY: 4/5
QUANTITY:3.5/5
PRICE : 3/5 (AFTER TAXES)

I have only one thing to conclude, in the central subarbs we have always lacked places serving good SOUTH ASIAN DELICACIES so plz keep up the good work.

Good food!

We came here for a relaxed sunday lunch, and it was completely worth it! The food is good, ambience pleasant and prices reasonable.
Must try - the raw mango salad! It was a delicious surprise, with just the subtle flavouring of garlic, peanuts and chillies. The Japanese potato cakes were yummy, especially with the wasabi mayo dip.
The service was friendly, but became slightly less attentive especially once the IPL match began to be screened!!
The decor was lovely, but the furniture was slightly uncomfortable (I'm only talking about the chairs, the couches in the corners looked absolutely comfy). Another small misgiving I have with the place is the outdated menu card which needs to be updated with the latest prices and offerings (e.g., they no longer offer beer pitchers, although it is featured on the menu)
All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I will definitely head back there soon!

The Good, The Bad, The Average and The Great

My normal drinking buddy was out of Mumbai today so i decided to pay The Bowl House a long overdue visit. It has been on my Yet to Try list for a long time now so it felt good to be able to finally check it out - albeit alone.

The Good - Ambiance is good and you feel at ease as soon as you enter. The music was not of my choice though, it was tolerable but very very old and cliche. Example, a cover of Byran Adams' Summer of 69. Seriously guys, not even the original, but a cover! And that too of that song!!?

The Bad - Well, the music, for one. And then there is the seating. As soon as i entered the waiter pointed me to a window seat, probably because i was the only customer there at the time (circa 1:15pm). But the seat had some oily leftovers from whoever had sat there before - whether it was today or yesterday i don't know. The waiter quickly cleaned it up. I was then seated at one of the center tables, but its back was non-existent. I used one of the pillows and it fell through the back! This seat, mind you, it just as you enter the place. So, changed seats for the third time. This one had a back, thank you!

The Average - The plates, for one, looked well used. This might not be a bad thing as it signifies that they get used a lot (or sloppily cleaned, if you want the glass to be half-empty). The Service was also average. Initially it was fine as i was one of the few customers there, but as the place got crowded, the waiters lost interest in me. I asked the waiter to fill up my plate and get me another pint. He did so in the reverse order. Geez dude, isn't this supposed to be covered in Hospitality 101?

The Great - Food. All the ambiance, the service, the music and the shiny plates don't mean a thing if the food is not up to the mark. The food hit the bulls-eye and is the singular reason i have added it to my 'Visit at every chance' list. I ordered the Thai Lemongrass Prawns as appetizer and the Nasi Goreng as main course. Both were fabulous. Lets take each one by one. Thai dishes usually have peanuts in them, and both peanuts and lemongrass can overpower the dish with their flavors if not used in the right quantity. I had no complaints whatsoever here. The flavors and the taste was ever so subtle, even of the ginger and the chillies. Same for the Nasi Goreng. It was comparable to the Nasi Gorengs i have had in Indonesia and in the Netherlands (where Indonesian food is all the rage). What else can i say!

All in all it was a good experience. A few fine tunings here and there and this would be the perfect place. As things stand now, if one avoids the backless seats and overlooks the not-so-shiny plates, all is good.My friend is going to be harassed a lot to go here.

Ridiculous

R-City mall, Ghatkopar. Absolutely atrocious service and a ridiculous way of handling customers. Had dinner on last Sunday, 2nd of Jan 2011. Waited for Starter order for over 35 min, reminded 3 people, including the desk manager, and when it came, it was the wrong dish. Person at the desk removed the charge for the unserved starter, which was fine, but was rude and dismissed our tab (very condescending) when we asked about the basis for service charge on the bill. The fundamental contract is of trust and quality of service, unspoken but held in good confidence.

It was galling to see such a patronising attitude and when we insisted on paying the bill amount minus service charge (which was bad as it is), the desk manager (or the person manning the counter) argued and pointedly got into a shouting match with my wife.

You will dismiss a customer offhandedly when he points out a short fall on your end, but you will get noisy and harsh when the customer does it to you in return? How fair is that?

Disgusting. Disappointing. Especially when the food was really good. We will ensure we will tell all we know, that The Bowl House is a sad place of great eats but bad attitude towards customers. Thanks for a great start to a new year. Pity on Bowl House.

Must Visit

I have been to this restaurant 4 times. I have a traveling job and over years I have developed taste for Thai, Malay & Indone food. Four time to this place means that I love food here. However, I felt the quality of food is not maintained. Everytime I was there, I was to compromise with the food quality. Infact, I was once served with over baked Fish (try their Banana Leaf Fish, it is good). Dear Anchit, make sure I return next time, I can come back and write a better review. Overall, good food and reasonable price.

Lipsmacking Curries

This is my second visit to this place and this will definitely continue :)

This place has the one of the best eastern curries in Mumbai.
I tried three of them: Thai Red Curry, Indonesian Jungle Curry and Thai Green Curry. All of them were yummy. The best was the Thai Green Curry. The live music is awesome, the guitarist is really cool, elevates the dining experience.

One Suggestion: Do introduce the Thai Iced Tea

I just have two minor complaints:
- The steamed rice portion served with the curry is not adequate, so we order an extra portion of rice and now we need to order another curry to finish the rice :)
- Not very impressed with the appetizers, Anchit do recommend what appetizers I should have during my next visit.

Will see you again ...

Will definitely return back

After reading a bunch of good reviews, finally decided to try out this place.

The decor is simple and nice. Only thing as recommended in some other reviews is the uncomfortable low inclined seating (which can be a pain to sit).

The appetizers & soup were average but the main course was excellent and hence I am going to return for the main course.

Excellent Dishes:
Thai Red Curry
Malaysian Kari Kapitan
Japanese Udon Noodles
Kung Pao Paneer (stir fry)

Dishes you can skip:
Tom Kha Soup (very salty)
Black Bean Paneer stir fry (again very salty)
Sweet & Sour Crispy Salad (tastes like chinese bhel from fast food restaurants)
Japanese Potato Cakes (very bland)

Other Positive Feedback:
Live acoustic Guitar & singing added to the ambience
Special Jain menu for one person in the group
Very easy on the wallet (Rs 300 per person)

Will definitely return back.

Amazing Bowl of food

Our team decided we had go to a good place to eat food. As all of us love South Asian food we zeroed on "The Bowl House".

It has a welcoming staff, with smile on their faces. The decor though simple just invites you to have good food. I had ordered the Lung Fung Soup, which was perfect. Though my friend was entirely confused when he ordered a crab soup where the crabs were :).
I mostly vegetarian so I made a dash to all amazing stir Fries and spring roll for starters. I heard my team say that their non-vegetarian starters were amazing too.
For main course I tried the Thai red curry and the rice proportion was good for 2 people. It was amazing curry I have tasted till now. I also ordered burnt garlic fried rice with vegetable with Holy Basil sauce. What a gourmet experience! to end it all i also ordered Japanese udon noodles, which actully looked like worms but were really tastly.

What I do like that they have these star marks on their specialties in the menu, which helps the guest order to their best.
When we did order the deserts it did take some time for it to appear but then again we were a group of 10. Mostly I found the proportions a little less for deserts except the honey noodle ice cream.
We all left on a happy Note and stomach full.

Authentic SE Asian stuff!

There’s something about South-east Asian Cuisine that draws me towards it. Must be the vivid colours of the vegetables used, interesting presentation and of course, the very fragrant spices used. The Bowl House has definitely lived up to my love for this cuisine.

We visited this place on last Saturday afternoon. The service was good, almost over enthusiastic. We started with the Thai tom yum soup and Tom kha soup - both remarkable in their own ways. The first one being spicy (almost like an improvement to a home-made soup for common cold) while the other was mild, both having lots of vegetables.

For starters, we called for the unique sounding Japanese potato cakes served with Mayo, which turned out just about okay, in taste and quantity. The Paneer Satay was well-grilled and tasted delicious with the peanut dip which we just had to call for a second time.

The main course had us eating Vegetables in Holy Basil Sauce and the Burnt Chili and Garlic Fried Rice. I appreciate the fact that they tasted and looked perfect – just as they did in the pics on the menu card! The Thai Red Curry with rice is a perennial favourite and we loved it here as well.

Now for the not so good part: the gaps between the cushioned seats made sitting a tad uncomfortable. The cushions were attached to the seats, so we had to use pillows to act as extra cushions. This is one area which should definitely be improved. The damages for 7 dishes ordered came to around Rs.1200 which was a little on the expensive side considering we were a group of 3 and no booze & desserts. Nonetheless, I hope to be back soon to try some more of their interesting & authentic SE Asian stuff. Cheers!

Delicious South East Asian Cuisine

We hopped in at Bowl house @ Rcity, Ghatkopar. We had not planned a sit down lunch but one on the move. Last minute change of events, and we found ourselves at Bowl House sipping a Pina Colada (a well made mocktail) and munching on some Paneer in Sambal sauce & Chicken Kung Pao (the dish was laden with crunchy roasted cashew nuts, which went really well with the sweet & sour sauce) Our tongues and tummies went 'yummy'.

The main meal that followed included Thai (Red) curry accompanied with plain white rice and Basil fried rice. The fragrance of the latter was overwhelming. The former would be more appreciated by someone with a palate for spicy food; but both equally good.

The dishes were all selected on the proprietor's recommendation, and so was the dessert. Two scoops of (almost homemade) ice cream - the first, tender coconut which reminded us of our time spent in Mangalore and the latter a paan variant, much likely to appeal to the typical Indian palate.

For those looking to soothe their throats, there is a well stocked bar with wines & spirits. The teetotaler need not be disappointed, as there are mocktails to suit their tastes.

Amazing Malaysian Cuisine

I think we were strolling down R city mall and we decided to visit this restaurant bowl house. We decided to initially try Thai but for some reason we tried plain steamed rice with malaysian gravy.

The Malaysian gravy had an amazing coconut base which tasted really good. The quality of rice was very good but the quantity was less so we ordered another rice. The coconut gravy melts so beautifully.

A little on the expensive side but total value for money. Even on my second visit I tried Penang curry and it was really delicious.
The ambience is good and the staff is also attentive though sometimes they might miss you on busy weekends. Overall its an amazing place to try awesome authentic thai food!!!

Hi Melvineater, glad you enjoyed the Kari Kapitan! The rice portion you are speaking about is a combination with the curries and the steamed rice. If you notice on other sections of the menu, the oriental gravies are ordered separately from the rice/noodle section. If one were to order the rice/noodles separately, the quantity is more than sufficient for two. However, with the combos (as we wish to communicate to our guests that the curries go the best with only steamed rice or steamed noodles) the price point has been designed for 1 person. So

Pleasantly Surprised

8 of us checked this restaurant a few months back. I must say - pretty good and authentic Indo-Malay food, not too many restaurants in the space.
I was not too impressed with the service - especially the knowledge level of the person who took our order. It was just lucky that most of us are well travelled and knew our way around the menu.
Ok a few points to crib on...the waiter insisted that we order the seafood platter - which was unfortunately the only dish we did not like - it seemed as if a bunch of starters were thrown in together and served. It also happens to be the most expenive (and not value for money) dish on the menu....(the waiter insisted that we order another round but we politely refused) I also got a nasty burn on my hand when the poor chap accidently poured hot curry on it (three days of burnol and all was well).

Price wise - some starters and and the Indo-Malay rice combos are value for money. Dinner for 8 - without drinks and dessert was around 4k...

All said and done, I would definitely go back for their superb starters and Indo-Malay Rice-Curry combos (the Burmese Kow Suey too). Finger Licking Good!

Good Food, Okay Quantity.....

Wanting to try something different other than the standard joints at the food court in r city, my partner and I decided to go to this place one afternoon.
The ambiance is okay, however the chairs are too low and the tables are too closely spaced because of which we could clearly hear the conversation of the trio sitting at the table next to us and vice versa im sure.
Not good for private conversations if you ask me.
The service is pretty nice, quick, courteous and efficient... on a side note they do charge a 12% service tax.
We opted for a starter and main course and a pint of beer.
Happy hours were on at that time so we got a pint free.
We chose schezwan chicken as a starter. Good standard stuff with about enough quantity for two... I blame myself for choosing this dish.. should've gone for something different.
Main course was thai red chicken curry with steamed rice. Great curry, Flavorful and went brilliantly with the steamed rice.
However, the quantity of the steamed rice was very low even for two moderate eaters and we had to end up leaving a good bit of the wonderful curry behind since there was no rice left 2 slurp it up with. I contemplated having the curry by itself like soup but gave up the idea after a disgusted look from my partner. :(
So if they could kick up the quantities i would definitely want to go back.
The bill came out to be around 600 Rs with the service tax. For 3 dishes and a pint of beer.
All in all i would recommend this place.. but with a stern warning about the quantities.

Visited this place yesterday with a few friends. The ambiance was nice with a very nice decor. Lighting is just perfect. Not too bright but enough light to see your food. Good place for couples. As an added feature they had a guy singing and playing the guitar. The guy had a great voice and it added to the ambiance of the place. Focusing on the food now, we ordered soup, starters and the main course and tried to stick to non-chinese cuisines.

Soup - We orders the Tom Kha Soup which is a thai soup with a coconut milk base. The soup was nice not great. But people who don't like coconut should avoid it like a plague.

Starters- We ordered Veg Tempura, Chicken Satay, Kokkorro (Japanese Potato Cakes) and Paneer Satay. Veg Tempura is south east asian version of indian bhaji. Nothing great. The chicken satay had a nice charcoaly taste and so did the paneer satay. The Kokkorro is nice if you can develop a taste for bland potatoes. Avoid the wasabi sauce if you dont like sour taste. Overall the starters were just ok. Nothing mind blowing

Main Course - We orders Burn Chilli and Garlic Rice, Singapore Street Noodles,Veg Fried Rice and a veg & chicken gravy in basil sauce. The rice were strictly ok (probably because they don't use msg). The gravy was really nice. Singapore street noodles are sevaiyyan like noodles and mildly spiced. A big disappointment.

IceCream - Recommend the pan ice cream. It leaves a lingering taste behind. No need for mouthfreshner after eating this icecream.

Overall I expected too much and ended up disappointed. Also this place is not VFM is you are eating in groups. 5 spice beats this place hands down in taste, quantity and price. I would suggest this place for couples. Make sure you stick to chinese or thai, if you cannot eat milder and blander food.

Good Stuff

Finally a south east asian restaurant this side of town that i'd like to revisit.

The menu is a mix of Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Malay, Indonesian. It's a bit confusing to choose form because there's so much to eat, but who said you can't go back?!

Anyway we stuck to Thai food and the staff assured me that they don't put MSG (Ajinomoto) in the Thai food while every other restaurant puts it. They were also nice enough to avoid the paneer on my request.

We had soup, and a peanut based curry with noodles. We liked it!

And I think we will go back to try more!

Good & Authentic Taste

I was there last sunday with my wife and it was our first time at the Food Court area in the R-City mall. The moment we noticed the Thai Cousine, me and my wife jumped out and could not stop ourselves entering in the place.

Staff is very nice and courteaous. Service was very quick.

A few points which I would like to bring in the attention of the management and would expect them to work on.
1. Green Apple, Cinamon drink was a sheer waste of money.
2. Thai curry vegetables - White Sauce, some of the vegies were not of good taste (may be they were refrigerated vegies).

Other than above two, it was a great experience. I hope, you will look into it and fix it.

A South Asian Opportunity

With wonderful wall paintings and wallpaper, the Bowl House kept me guessing on the designer they roped in to do the interiors which in short is pretty and keeps up the theme- geometric and simplistic (I guess). I however, found the service to be over enthusiastic especially when it came to taking our orders. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to give us a second to take in the new environment and menu right?

Saying so, the menu is unique- having two separate cards for the Veg and Non Veg lovers! While, I mostly dig into a veg menu, I did taste the Lemongrass Prawns we ordered as a starter which would definitely make me order it another time. The menus are great, loaded with variety and details about the ingredients and options (in terms of steamed noodles/rice). So we tucked in to our respective orders, a Veg Thai Red Curry with steamed noodles and Chicken Malaysian Curry with the rice- I’d say go for the noodles, you could eat it plain! The service was quick and super clean, especially since the “bowls” as spoken about a lot in the menu were shallow. The quantity is great too, although it does look less when they are serving.

We did ask for the desserts which looked pretty much like any other South Asian menu, consisting of the usual fried noodles with honey, ice creams and banana toffee. Well, we skipped this one since we didn’t like the options.

A meal for two consisting of a starter and 2 main courses for 800 was a bit expensive, but definitely worth it!

Hi Swati! Appreciate the time you took to review us. We really take such opinions seriously as we put in tremendous efforts in setting up our menu and overall experience. We look forward to entertaining you again soon and as a recommendation: try the Veg japanese potato cakes, Indonesian Jungle Curry (seeing that you like curries) and the grilled fish in banana leaves the next time! You will be bowled over! And regarding desserts, try our special Pan Ice-Cream. If you like Pan, we guarantee it will be the icing on the cake, or in this case ice-

Unique experience

When East and west compete it is normally the east that wins in India as our tastebuds are developed accordingly. As such the giants of the west like Mc.D have adjusted to Indian tastes. The Bowl House has this unique niche. Great South Asian food, absolutely authentic, good enviroment and intense service attitude. Grace isn't a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It's a way to live. MUST VISTI PLACE FOR ONE AND ALL.

Nothing authentic about it

In a land of Joss and East who specialize in South East Asian cuisine comes another player to compete. Sadly there is nothing authentic about The Bowl House. then why 3 stars?
Because the food is still yummy!

We started with thai tom kha soup, veg.wanton soup, chicken tossed wok and potato chilli. The soups were strictly average, but starters were good. For main course, we called for Japanese udon noodles, chicken in hunan sauce and burnt garlic fried rice...and red thai curry. Full marks to all of them!

The ambiance is tacky; the seating is crammed. Rates are pretty reasonable... go for it!

Thanks and we look forward to welcoming you again Diti! We take a lot of pride in what we do and especially being of Southeast Asian origin (Thai), I'd love for the food in our restaurant to be appreciated by a different culture. And yes hats off to Burrp for allowing us to interact with our revered guests!!

Different Experience

The place sounded unique when we saw it and so opted for it over Subway or such. It was different for sure. The seating was weird (the chairs were too low or then were a tad uncomfortable) Maybe the Oriental people are short and they designed it for them. Coming to the ambience looked good and I am sure with the lights on in the evening it would look pretty. Coming to the food, my friend and me had a dish each as the captain suggested that a vegetable between two of us would not suffice. We had a mix vegetable dish and a tofu dish with a Garlic and burnt ginger rice and some Japanese noodles. The rice was so so. The noodles were better for sure. The vegetables were good just that the tofu probably was fried and then pushed into the vegetables. I like Tofu as is and not fried or such but well that is the way we were served. All in all we paid 560 for 2 vegetables, rice and a dish of noodles. Average of 140 which is not bad. The funny thing was I was still hungry after having the meal and so did end up walking across to Subway for the usual veggie delite:-)

Thanks for the review. We will be launching our new menu next week that will give you plenty of authentic options. And as far as the connection with bowls, in the new menu we have provided literature that states that the bowls are a mere iconic representation of Southeast and East Asia and we wish to provide you with home cooked Southeast and East Asian meals (hence the indication of "house" as part of the brand). We look forward to serve you again and we are sure to 'bowl you over!!'

A little sweet, a little sour...

The aromas wafting from this restaurant as I passed by made me curious to experience their cuisine and both me and P came away with some mixed feelings.

The place is done up quite well - ebony with hints of red and gold. The table for two is strictly for two and once we went in, in flowed everyone who I think was standing at the sidelines - waiting to see if anyone went in the almost empty restaurant.

The thin menu brings down to earth those expecting a variety as rich as the decor. On both sides of the laminated sheet of paper are the starters, main course, beverages and everything else on offer.

Dumplings - inner filling, great! Outer - nope, just not done as it should be

Tom Kha soup - yummm! The ones you least expect to wow you end up doing just that.

Chicken satay - good! I've had better but they really make it delicious especially in combination with the peanut sauce (which seems to be made with peanut butter and a secret spice).

Jasmine tea - served in a glass with the tea leaves steeping at the bottom. So, so disappointed that they cannot strain it before serving (is probably made just for those who order it).

It is reasonably priced (compared to Mainland China and the like) and the above with a full liter bottle of mineral water came within 500 bucks. We havent tried the mains yet, although we fully intend to!

THis is definitely a shopper's stop for lunch or a quick bite before you head off home or to the movies. Dont expect more and you definitely wont get disappointed.

Thanks for the detailed review. We appreciate the intricacies of your thoughts. It takes a lot of patience to do this and we take your comments very seriously. Rest assured we are launching our new menu next week which will have a wide range of authentic dishes from Southeast and East Asia. Being a person of Southeast Asian origin (Thai), I can assure you that it will be more than just a place for lunch or a quick bite. We work rigorously on our recipes to adapt to the Indian palate while still maintaining the traditional ingredients. We look f
